We love being able to get to work with tools right out of the box, so combo kits are high on our list. This one's got not one but two nailers and a great little compressor. First, the nailers: The 16-gauge top-load finish nailer is so light and compact, it's just a joy to handle. It didn't jam on us, but if it did, clearing it would have taken only a couple seconds because of the quick-release nose door. Depth control adjusts easily, and the tip doesn't mar the workpiece. We really like the full-length window that lets you see how many nails you've got left. When it fires, it's got virtually no recoil, and combined with the comfortable rubber grip, it's easy on the user. Because of nose design, it can slip into places other nailers can't go. The 18-gauge side-load brad nailer also has the view window, and it's super easy to load. As with the finish nailer, jams are cleared quickly and easily, firing depth is simple to adjust, it's comfortable in hand and it's extremely light but powerful. Again, it has a no-mar tip. The heart of this combo is a high-performance, oil-free compressor, built tough for the job site. At six gallons, it's not huge, but for nailers, this is plenty. Air delivery is a respectable 3.4 cfm at 40 psi and 2.7 cfm at 90 psi. This is a great combo for the carpenter and contractor, and you can't beat the price. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

Here's a tough-as-nails nailer and a hardworking compressor perfect for the professional carpenter. The framing nailer has a 75-nail capacity extruded aluminum magazine that Bostitch says will survive falls, though we didn't try that for ourselves. We can tell you, though, that even though it weighs 8 pounds, it balances well and doesn't strain the user. Depth adjusts easily, and hungry toe-nailing teeth really take hold for slip-free use. It reliably fires 2- to 3-1/2-inch clipped head nails for use in framing, sheathing, siding, fencing, trusses, decking, pallets and wood to masonry. Powering this nailer is a 2.5 horse, six-gallon oil-lube compressor. At six gallons, it's not huge, but for nailers, this is plenty. We like that it's ready to use right out of the box, with all the air line and accessories you need to get started. Maintenance is important: You'll need to open the drain valves a couple times a day and oil it in the morning and at noon, and it'll serve you well.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value!
I have had this for about 5 months now and am happy with it so far. I mainly wanted it to use with my framing/finish nailers and also for it's size and portability. I have a big 30 gal one in the garage that is not easy to move around due to it's size and weight. I like the fact that it has an induction motor which is better than the brush types as far cycle duty is concerned. The build quality is also very good. Overall I am glad that I bought it and would highly recommend it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars good
I have worked with this compressor for about a week and before that I was using a 30 gallon 220Volt rig that I have had for years. So,it is light and compact, irratingly noisy when filling but very portable.I like the convenience and the oil-less feature because I do a lot of trim work, like after new homes are sheetrocked,I will hang cabinets, interior doors as well as stairskirts, base, door casing and misc other trim details to complete the home.

5-0 out of 5 stars it works for me
I bought it in November of 2002 I didn't use it till about 4 months later. Than I found the regulator wasn't working so I called Stanley and they said to send it to one of their repair shops in my state. It sat there for 1 month waiting for the part to come in. they fixed it (no charge) I have it back now and it's working fine. It came with a 2 1/2 inch nail gun. that works great also. I also use a 3-½ inch porter cable framing nailer with it and i've had no problem driving those nails in. the tank fills up very quick and last a long time between refills. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars poor design
I have owned this unit for my remodeling company for just over a year. Within the first few weeks I noticed that the drain plugs stuck out beyond the cage. Any time it was rolled onto the cage, the 'easy pull' drain plugs were depressed, which caused rusty water to spray out....either onto your clothes, flooring, concrete, etc.(Not to mention that the handy pull cords get caught on everything, to give you a suprise dose of rust!) This issue took over a month of continued contact with Bostich Reps. to finally convince them to repair the unit. There first solution was to send out new plugs for myself to replace. Doesn't work. The stub outs for these plugs protruded out too far. The threads had to be re-tapped. Also within my short ownership, the exhaust canister has bent over, due to the "roll cage" design, or lack there of. 2 of the 4 rubber mounts have broken off, which makes for an even louder rattling unit. I also am now using a pair of pliers to adjust the air pressure dial. A lot of trouble for an overpriced roll cage unit. I have found that I am hardly ever in need of a roll-cage on my compressor unless I drop it due to the added weight of a useless oversized steel handle that some one calls a roll cage. In my opinion.....over-priced, over-wieght, over-blown, and under-thought. I'm going back to the tried and true.....EMGLO!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Oil ?
I just bought this compressor yesterday, so I can't give it a performance rating, but there are a few minor flaws that could be fixed relatively easily. One starting with the OPERATION and MAINTENANCE MANUAL. There is NO mention of correct oil level, nor is it marked on the dipstick. Oil capacity and type are not mentioned either. The air filter sticks out of the cage a little too far, looks like it's prone to bumps. And last but not least, the control panel, nice easy access and readability, and I like the dual air outlets, but they stick out of the roll cage after you install a pair of female couplers. Otherwise it looks like a good unit, didn't seem to take long to cycle on an empty tank. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you're a serious do-it-yourselfer or a contractor just getting started, you can't go wrong with this finish nailer/compressor combo kit from Bostitch. Not only are you guaranteed that the two will work well together, you'll be getting an excellent value as well. In this kit, Bostitch has paired its popular 16-gauge finish nailer with its 1-1/2-horsepower, 5.8-gallon, oil-free compressor. The nailer is a simple, solid piece of equipment designed to reliably do its job all day long. It has an aluminum housing so it's durable on the job site, a quick-release nose door for clearing jams, adjustable depth control for quick countersinking adjustments, an adjustable exhaust deflector, and a no-mar tip. It shoots 1- to 2-1/2-inch, 16-gauge finish nails. The compressor is oil free, so it requires less maintenance then most but is still built to last. We especially liked the solid design of this compressor. The wheels are large enough to make it easy to move around, and although the motor housing is a little flimsy and doesn't block as much noise as we would like, all the gauges and buttons are on top, so you won't risk damaging the compressor maneuvering in tight spaces. The on/off switch is easy to reach and the gauges are easy to read and clearly marked. This compressor will draw 3.4 cfm at 40 psi or 2.7 cfm at 90 psi, and comes with a 25-foot hose, all the fittings, and Teflon tape. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bostitch satisfied customer
I spent 6 Months reviewing numerous tools for my first woodworking shop. Part of my selection came from learnerd advise from a world class cabinetmaker, who has been in the trade for over 40 Years. I needed a compressor and the combo packs offered the best value for the money. The Bostitch brad nailer combo did not receive very good ratings, but others had good experience with the Bostitch 2 1/2 finish nailer. That combo was my choice, and after using them for several Months now, I am very satisfied with both the nailer and compressor. I did add a Porter cable narrow crown stapler and am now about to purchase a Porter Cable 1 1/4 brad nailer. Between these three tools and compressor, my projects can all be accomplished with ease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid tool
The unit is robust and reliable. I've used the finish nailer for a variety of projects, using a variety of nail sizes. The range on size is usefull. The gun covers quite a large range of projects. The compressor cycles on approximately every 10-15 mins. during a session of nailing at a regular rate or frequency - so I doubt that I'll be frying the compressor (possibly during a framing project with more than 1 user). The accessories provided are pretty adequate. I've picked up a kit of additional accessories: blower, air guage, fittings, coiled hose, but by no means does the lack of these items keep from it's intended task:

A good, solid entry level tool.

3-0 out of 5 stars bostich 16 gauge finish nailer
I received the combo kit for Christmas. Couldn't wait to use it, however, to my dismay the instructions were terrible. As a novice I could not understand how to use the product. I went to my local home improvement store they showed me how to load the nailer and now I am having to visit with them again on how to use the air compressor. I thought that the compressor instructions were going to be better, I was wrong. So far, that is my complaint but from what I have read this product is really a good piece of equipment for a diy person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Home User
bought unit for use around the house and haven't had any problems with it. received unit with no cracks, dents, bends, or scratchs. instructions are only complaint but being retired military i read between the lines and got everything working. nailer works great no hitches. compressor does a variety of jobs around the house from driving nails to inflating an air bed. very satisfied and would recomend this unit to others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Horrible directions for a novice, but good equipment
I'm new to pneumatic equipment and was really disappointed by the lousy directions in this kit. I'd imagine that many people buying this kit are new to air tools (since they need to buy a compressor too). The directions for the nailer were mediocre, and confusing because they try to describe three very different nailers in one text. The compressor directions were worse, probably because they were roughly translated from italian.

For example, they provide an unlabeled roll of teflon tape, but don't tell you what to do with it. (Luckily I had fixed a sink faucet recently and was familiar with it.)

After reading *everything* that was provided ,and guessing about a few things not covered, I was happily nailing after about an hour. (I can't believe I was actually considering predrilling and hammering finish nails by hand for my project!)

I wasn't really happy with the depth control on the nailer since there's no indicator (at least the compressor has a pressure guage). Finding the right depth is a matter of turning a hand screw and pure guessing how far you've turned it, and what the range of adjustment may be. Unfortunately it appears most/all other brands are similar.

Everything (except the directions) seems to be top quality. I do wish the compressor was quieter, or started up slower (it scared the hell out of me when the pump automatically refilled the tank, even through my earplugs). But the build quality is excellent (the tank welds are top notch). I really liked the fact that the kit included *everything* you need, including nails. ... Read more
