5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for mini lathe
Unless space isn't an issue, you'll want this stand. Since I use the lathe less frequently than the other tools in my shop, it's nice to throw a dust cover over the set and roll it out of the way without giving up counter space. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great design, poor quality control & customer service
I really like the design of the saw but the quality control and customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The sliding table box was missing the hardware kit, the little bag of nuts & bolts to attach it. I called Jet 3 weeks ago and they promised to send a replacement, but today they say the parts are back-ordered and it will be *another* 4 weeks. And the fence locking handle broke right off under normal hand pressure! Not only are fence handles back-ordered for at least 4 weeks, but the ones that are due in are all spoken for already. Apparently they've been breaking a lot of them and I'm not expecting the replacement to be any more durable. It's going to be at least 2 months from the time I bought the saw until it's actually usable! This seems like a great design and that's why I've given it 3 stars but I'm really disappointed in Jet's low quality and poor service.

2-0 out of 5 stars Prepare to do modifications and additions
After using the Super Saw for 7 months I have mostly negative observations. The few positive observations simply do not outweigh the myriad negative, thus the two star rating.

First the negative:

1.) The fence is not flat, does not stay aligned, and has a large amount of deflection with even moderate pressure. The deflection problem was noticeable even just after each adjustment. Four adjustments were required in a month and were not noticeably prolonged when the bolts holding the adjustment were tightened very tight. Lastly, I used several precision rules to check the fence for flatness. Enough variation was evident to make me worry. I ended up purchasing the Vega fence and have been quite happy since. I suggest anyone considering this saw do the same.

2.) Dust collection does not work as advertised. After a great deal of searching on the net and several calls to Jet I finally took the plunge and enlarged the holes in the base of the cabinet. Dust collection is better but not great. Considering I have a 1 ½ horse power dust collector 8 feet from the saw, I expected much better results.

3.) Saw table and wings are not flat. Granted, they are not out by much: .005 to .007 at the maximum. But considering what I paid for the saw I expected tolerances to be somewhat higher.

4.) Timing belt broke within the first 3 months. This is the belt controlling blade height. I was surprised at how hard the belt is to get to and was not happy with the quality of parts. I can see this being a problem in the future.

5.) Accessories are hard to come by. In particular, the distance of the miter gauge slots from the saw blade makes 3rd party accessories unusable. For example, I have yet to find a tenoning jig that will fit this saw. Also, my choice of fence was limited by the location of the fence bolts and by the configuration of the saw. My preference was the Incra fence, but the manufacture advised me that it would not fit even thought is advertised as fitting almost any saw.

6.) The blade guard and kickback paws need some work and are hard to remove. In addition, no third party options (that I know of) exist.

7.) Lastly, Jet service is sporadic. Depending on who you are connected with, you may or may not get good information.

On the positive side:

1.) Motor runs well and does every job I have asked of it. Including, cutting 2 ½ inch hardwoods like maple and oak. Just make sure you have a sharp blade.
2.) When you do get a good Jet rep on the phone service is quick.

3.) Saw is quiet and smooth.

I think you can see, considering all the negatives I don't think this saw is a good buy. At some point in the future, when the problems are fixed, it will be worth a look. Until then, stay clear and don't be fooled by a feature list that does not deliver.

4-0 out of 5 stars One Smooooth Saw!
Really 4 1/2 stars.

The all cast-iron construction gives quiet and smooth operation that has to be heard to be believed. Smoooooooth. The motor's power is very good for 120v. The table is dead flat, but the fence is not, not even close. Laid the fence on the table for use as a straight edge as instructed in the manual; wobbles like a hobbyhorse. Contacted Jet, they sent a new one that is just as bad. But at least it locks down better than the old one. However, if you push firmly on the rear of the fence, it moves and stays there.

The cast iron wings have a sharp 90 degree edge on the front, they ought to match the nice bevel on the main table. And a very minor problem: the miter assembly hold-down bolt threads were defective, Jet sent a new one.

The blade guard is well designed except for the anti-kick-back-pawls, they are sharp enough to cut you and the spring is built for STRONG, certain to mar any wood it contacts. Overall, though, the saw makes most work easy and fast. And at this price I'm willing to put up with the fence, it's good enough for now. And if absolute precision is ever needed from the fence, then there are several replacements available.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Saw
For the money this is a good saw. I have to agree with the comments about the dust collection. I have enlarged the holes now it draws fairly well. I stopped at the Jet display at a local wood worker show to ask about a mobile base they said to use the Jet mobile base and some extensions but they weren't quiet sure which extension kit to get. That was a little weird. Other than that I like the saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lot of saw for the money.
I looked at the Dewalt and the Jet side by side before deciding on the Jet. I have not had any dust collection problems and I'm using a small (5 gal.) Rigid shop vac. For me, setup took 5-6 hrs. but has been well worth it.The fence works great, the miter gauge is decent. I switched mine to 230 volt. The main table is perfectly flat as far as I can tell, the right wing is
bowed down about .003" and the left wing is bowed up about .003". However, I was not expecting perfection for the money I spent. I have been a professional auto tech. for 27 years and have invested over $30,000.00 in hand tools. If you step onto a Snapon or Matco tool truck and spend $1000.00 you will probably not need any help getting your purchases off the truck. I can give this machine 5 stars based on value alone. ... If you're doing serious woodworking at home or in a small professional shop, JET's 1-1/2-horsepower dust collector is right up your alley. JET has taken an already fantastic system that collects 7.36 cubic feet of material at 30 microns and larger and upgraded it to accept the optional canister-style filter, which traps everything down to 2 microns. The 1-1/2-horsepower motor moves air at 1,100 cubic feet per minute. As a rule, JET systems run quieter than other dust collectors we've used, but we still recommend ear protection, considering you'll be running it in conjunction with a saw, planer, sander, or other power tool. Unlike other systems, this one offers 4- and 6-inch inch ports. Another nice touch: the collector comes mounted on casters for easy maneuvering. 3-0 out of 5 stars look elsewhere
ok unit but too much money for just the name. Grizzly has a 2 hp unit with a .3 micron bag & a seperator for less money

4-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to show 4 1/2 but no option for that
I received this item about 2 weeks ago. Again Amazon delievery time was faster than promised. However, the box was a disaster, and I really expected damage on the inside - but there was none. This went together as advertised with no fit issues. But, the paint job was NOT what others have claimed on Jet tools. It has bare spots where the poweder coating was obviously never applied - these are not rub marks. This is down to the primer, not bare metal thank goodness. It has a 6" to 4" intake Y, with a plug for one side - the plug retaining strap was broken and of such cheap quality plastic it is not repairable - bring on the electrician's tape. The intake plate did fit snuggly against the impeller housing and there appear to be no leaks. The unit does run exceptionally quietly as reported by others, less than the 80 dcb I think someone else mentioned. I don't have a way to test the CFM so don't know if I'm getting anywhere near 1100 CFM, doubt it's that much, but it is acceptable, at least comparable to 850 machines I've seen. I also purchased the Jet 4" to 2 1/2" adapter. As others have reported in other areas, this is 2 1/2" OD and so is exactly the same opening size as the tools (bandsaw) with a 2 1/2" dust port. The adapter is worthless and does not fit a tool on the 2 1/2" size. I finally found a rubber sleeve at Home Depot that would go over both the adapter and tool ends and allow me to join them! Whew - someone please suggest a source for a quality adapter that is 2 1/2" ID so it will go over the tool ports!

4-0 out of 5 stars This baby sucks !!!
I have had this dust collector for about a year now, and it probably has 600 to 800 hours of operation on it.

I have it connected to 6 stationary power tools, and with a little bit of common sense as to installing and using blast gates, it has exceeded my expectations. With the TEFC motor, operating on 120 VAC, it works well, and I have had no problems drawing in sufficent air to to carry away even the troublesome debris generated from thickness planing. Even after several hours of running, the motor is hardly warm to the touch, and we all know that heat is what kills motors.

I had initially planned to rewire it to 220, but it runs fine on 120, so I have not bothered.

My only gripe is the 30 micron bags. If you keep the 30 micron bags, get a seperate air filter, or buy the 10 micron bags. I make a lot of jigs, and use MDF almost exclusively, and I have read that MDF dust is really bad for your lungs, and the 30 micron bags won't collect enough of the dust to keep my wife from worrying. I solved that with the Jet air filter for all the 30 micron and below material.

The 1100 dust collector, in conjunction with the Jet airfilter keep my basement shop amazingly dust free.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Dust Collection System
A don't know why I waited so long to put a dust collection system into my garage shop, but I am glad I did, and the Jet DC1100 is a perfect system for me. I can't beleive how quiet it is when running, and the suction power that it generates. It pulls some of my smaller scroll saw pieces 6 inches off the work bench.

The setup was easy, took about 1 hour. Directions and diagrams were very helpful. I'm not one to usually read the directions, thus the diagrams were really the most helpful. It was put into use almost immediately with my drum sander and router. Didn't take too long for the bag to fill up, and it really wasn't too bad to remove. However, I have since purchased a W1049 Dust Collection Separator, which separators the larger dust particles into a garbage can, which in turn, is very easy to empty.

I find myself leaving the machine on, because it is so quiet. I have a setup with blast gates at each machine, so it is just a matter of opening and closing each blast gate as I work on various operations and projects.

I really wanted a powerful machine, but did not want to special wire my garage with a 230 volt system. This DC works just fine on the 115 volt system. I have it plugged into a 20 amp circuit, with the overhead lights, and have not had one blown fuse.

Of all the research I did, the Delta, Jet, Ridgid and PSI, they all had about the same features and the same price, I'm glad I purchased the Jet system

4-0 out of 5 stars Jet 1100A Dust collector
I had no problems assembling the unit but when I went to convert the moter wiring from 115 volts to 230 volts which I needed for my shop, I found that the wiring diagram in the manual was wrong. After almost burning up the motor (smoke and fluid from the capacitor came out before I could hit the kill switch), I found a small diagram inside the motor wiring cover which is correct. Even then, when I started it the motor emitted a screeching sound. well, I thought the motor was kaput and envisioned a long hassle getting Jet to send me a new motor, but on a hunch I took off the end motor cover to see if there was anything scraping. I found the motor self cooling fan was loose and spinning on the shaft. The set screw was laying in the bottom of the motor cover. After correcting this the unit came up to speed and performed as expected.
I logged on to the Jet website and was able to download the manual. The wiring diagram has now been corrected. One should always go by the diagram on the equipment since it is more likely to be right. I like having the dust collector but the 30 micron bag doesn't do the job. I will probably have to buy the 2 micron canister filter to have a viable collection system. ... Read more

JET's planer/molder handles material up to 13 inches wide andup to 6 inches in height. The tool's 1-1/2-horse, 110-watt motor (youcan easily rewire it to 230 watts) spins the three-knife cutterhead.Depending on the application, the machine runs 10 to 20 board feet perminute. The motor is fan-cooled, too, so it doesn't overheat. Thecast-iron table lends plenty of heft and contact surface, while therubberized infeed and outfeed rollers support the work without marringit. 5-0 out of 5 stars Good tool, excellent results
My JPM-13 is about a year old, and is being used to restore an old house. I use 5/4 and 8/4 fir and 5/4 maple exclusively. I make the door/window trim (1 1/8 thick x 5 in wide) and have custom knives made. This is not a professional machine, but gives GREAT results on the maple molding, with no sanding needed! I would recommend it to anyone that would use it as a hobby machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars ACE
I haven't used mine to cut molding yet, but the machine is under powered for rough cut lumber. If you just have a board or two to thickness plane it is functional, but for big jobs forget it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great machine
I've had my JPM 13 for over a year and haven't a single complaint. It's a workhorse that does a fine job of both planing and molding. It's way better than those flimsy, 12 1/2-inch portable planers. I've run a few hundred board feet of curly maple and red and white oak through it, and it does a great job.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for moldings, modest for planing
I've had mine for about a year and a half now. The reason I bought it was to match original moldings in my house restoration project and the RBI systems were out of my price range. It is a bit time consuming to switch between planing and molding, but after getting the routine down it is getting quicker and more accurate. There were some burrs on the gears that change the speed, but after cleaning them up has made the job a lot quicker. Once the machine is set for planing or molding, it does a really nice job. You definitely need a dust collector hooked up and the outfeed roller set is a big help in reducing snipe. Overall, it is very capable of meeting a hobbiest level woodworking, but the planing cut isn't that aggressive to do a big stack of wood all at once. If some one is considering molding making as well as occasional planing, it is a nice machine to meet those needs.

1-0 out of 5 stars problem with gear
I've owned one for 6 months and have only been able to use it a half dozen times, since one gear broke on me twice and the first repair job took seven weeks, due to Jet not shipping a part to the shop. It won't stand up to demanding jobs and support has been less than satisfying. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars maybe try the 16 inch
When I bought this, about a year ago, it seemed like a good choice for a home hobbiest. The 15 inch Delta,Jet,or Powermatic, would have been nicer, but they were a couple hundred dollars or so more money. I think it works great. The rollers are real grabby, and I get 3 inches of snipe on each end, maybe it is user error or machine setup, I don't know. The mobile base is nice, but it doesn't lock down as hard as it should, but good enough. I would look at the new 16 inch model now which is almost the same price. Most wood is never over 13 inches, but for gluing boards together 16 inches would be a lot nicer. The outfeed and infeed rollers are ok. The problem is, the table moves up and down instead of the cutter. I didn't realize how inconvenient this is (when using additional rollers). I have never used the molder. Maybe someday I will, that would be fun. For planing only, I would look at the new 16 inch 3 hp Jet planer. I wish they would have had it a year ago, but I am very satisfied with what I have too.

4-0 out of 5 stars JPM-13CS is a good deal, but the options will get you.
JPM-13CS

I purchased my JPM-13CS in October of 2000. I promptly wired it for 220v. It is still going strong. I have done several hundred feet of lumber (birch, brown maple, basswood, pine, hackberry, oak) with it so far and I am still on the original blades. It does a nice, smooth job, but max planing speed is only 20 feet per minute. I seldom get snipe, and in 3 years of use, I haven't figured out exactly why some boards do, and some don't. Narrow boards (about 4 inch or less) seem to do it more so than wide boards.
I purchased a molding set for tongue and groove, and made a few hundred feet of basswood paneling. I strongly discourage anyone from going this route to make paneling. It is a slow, tedious process, and the available T&G set does not make the V chamfer groove, so an extra step through the router to make the chamfer was needed. I learned my lesson and bought a router bit set that makes the tongue and grove with the v chamfer.
I tried using this planer without a dust collector. It got about 2 feet and jammed without the collector.
I also purchased the optional "Curved Molding" table for the planer. I have not used it yet, but the attachment is very expensive for what it is. (A sheet of 3/4" white Teflon or plastic with slotted holes, and some bearings and bolts)

5-0 out of 5 stars can't go wrong with this one
Very nice planer. Plenty of power even when wired 115, easy to adjust, compact footprint, very well built. Have not tried the molding head option yet, but I'm confident it'll be a darn nice feature to have. I'm very glad I did not mess around with a smaller, less powerful benchtop unit first.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST ALL ROUND PERFORMER
IF YOU'VE EVER CONSIDERED GRETTING A HIGHER END PLANER, THIS IS IT.
THE PLANER-MOLDER IS PROBABLY THE BEST LOW PRICED, HIGH QUALITY ITEM I'VE EVER INVESTED IN. IT SETS UP EASILY, JUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AND PERFORMS SUPERBLY. THE OTHER MOLDER PLANERS I LOOKED AT WERE EITHER TOO HIGH PRICED OR INFERIOR IN QUALITY (SEARS)
JET HAS PUT A PRODUCT ON THE MARKET THAT THE AVERAGE WOODWORKER CAN AFFORD AND USE FOR A LIFETIME, YET IS STILL A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR THE PROFESSIONAL WOODWORKER WITH A SMALLER SHOP. EASY TO USE AND SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE ARE THE BEST QUALITIES OF THIS MACHINE. WHILE IT'S COMPACT SIZE MAKES IT EASY TO STORE.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Machine for the Price
I purchased this machine as an upgrade in my shop from a bench type planer. Initially, I thought I would like to buy a larger planer, but have found the thirteen inch capacity to be more than sufficient for my needs. The machine planes efficiently, and thickness settings are accurate upon initial calibration. Changing thickness is easily accomplished without the effort required for many smaller planers. The machine is sufficiently heavy to support large boards during planing, and the built in retractable wheels are wonderful, allowing easy relocation of the machine in the shop and good stability for planing while they are in the raised position. The infeed and outfeed roller supports are easily adjusted and well constructed. When properly set up they virtually eliminate snipe. When coupled with a dust collection system, the built in dust hood removes virtually all the chips. I am impressed! This is an exceptional machine for the price! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe I Waited So Long to Get This!
If you are doing any dust collection, particularly from stationary machines, you've got to get one of these. It lets the large chips from planers, jointers, lathes, table saws and floor sweeps drop into a 30 gallon galvanized trash can (that you supply). This is so much easier than endlessly dumping the bag on a dust collector.

Another great reason to have one of these; how many times have you accidentally sucked up an important piece of hardware and spent hours sifting through a dust bag trying to find it? Metal parts will drop to the bottom of the barrel where they are easily found. This also saves the impeller blades of your dust collector from damaging impacts. I always empty it before sweeping the floor, just in case I encounter a stray chunk I want to recover.

You should keep the barrel dumped fairly often, as this will increase efficency. The only thing better would be a cyclone system, but they are more costly and take up more space. This unit is also quite portable, which is handy in a one-hose shop.

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you put one of these to work in your shop. You'll wonder how you ever worked without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for any DC system.
I thought the dust collection system was the best thing a ever got, but after adding this to the system, the Woodstock Dust Collection Separator is the best thing I got. The bag in the DC machine is not the easiest thing to change, not impossible to change, just not easy. The Woodstock DC Separator lets you collect and empty in a 30 gallon garbage can, very easy to remove the lid and empty the can.

The Separator will collect the large particles and some dust, allowing the smaller dust to be collected in the DC bag. But don't wait for the garbage can to fill up before emptying it. The fuller the can gets, the less area for the particles to drop, so empty the can about at half full. When running my lathe or planer, that could be quite often. BUT, it is easier than emptying the bag, OR sweeping them off the floor without a DC system.

No Dust Collection System is complete without this product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured........
First off let me say that it works and that it does so pretty well. However.....the item is certainly not as pictured. The way it fits my 30 gal metal trash can reminds me of a little kid trying to walk in his/her parents shoes! Waaaay too big, overhanging each side by probably 6" or so. I finally had to bungee it on the can so that it would stay in place. As an earlier review noted, connection of the hoses is not that easy either. If you have the clear, wire-reinforced hoses you can thread them in like a screw. Otherwise you may need to add some sort of connector.

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't know how I got along without it!
This has to be the best value in my shop. I used two spiral 4" connectors on the inside of the lid to connect to hoses outside. These spiral connectors let the hoses pivot. I don't disconnect the hoses but use 4" adaptors to hook to hoses from each machine.
I've filled up a 33 gallon trash can three times and haven't had to empty the dust bags on my Jet vacuum yet.
But, even better, I can vacuum up all those little scrap pieces of wood and stuff and not wince everytime they hit my blades.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great idea, but...
For that price it should come with the hoses show in the picture and have a way to clamp them on at least, boy I would have been pissed if I had ordered this and didn't get the stuff shown in the photo! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great
Just recieved it today and it was easy to install. I have a DC-1200 dust collector, so it did not require the retro kit. Right away I noticed an improvement in performance. My floor sweep is the furthest away (50 feet), and it sucked up the chips faster than with the 5 micron bag I was using. I think the canister and the retro kit should be sold seperately, because I now have a housing kit that I have no use for. the canister itself will fit directly on any 20 inch dust collector. It is also easier to clean than the filter bags. You just turn the handle at the top, and a flapper inside knocks loose the dust. If you are considering a dust collector, get one with the canister filter.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
After a bad experience with a local woodworker's supply I ordered the conversion kit from Amazon. I have to admit I was surprised at how quick the item shipped. It arrived in good shape and only took a short time to change out the parts and set the canister in place. I haven't had the opportunity to use the dust collector much since the conversion, but did cleanout the sawdust in the bottom of my table saw and found that everything seems to work as advertised. I also really like the clear collector bags, as in the past I had to check the bottom cloth bag by shaking it to see how full it had become. Now it just takes a quick glance. If this thing works as well as I hope, I think the shop will be considerably cleaner and the dust collection more efficient since the canister claims to give a better air flow and filter finer particles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea but pricey!
I have a 3 HP Powermatic dust collector which has 4 bags. I ordered two retrofit kits when they were on back order. The estimated delivery time was well over a month but I received them in about two weeks. They both arrived undamaged, complete, and on the same day. If you have a dust collector other than a Jet DC1100 you receive an adapter that you can't use but I didn't realize this when I ordered these filters and maybe you can purchase them separately at a reduced price.

The filters fit perfectely on my dust collector and seal very well. A very simple installation! Although I like these filters and they greatly reduce the height of my dust collector (by over 3 ft.) and increase performance. I think the price is a little high. My dust collector complete cost approx. $600, these two kits were [less]. I would recommend buying a Jet dust collector with the cannister filter already installed instead of separately (the cost is comparable to dust collectors with bags). I bought these because my collector is in a shed behind
my workshop with a 7' ceiling. I had no choice except to put it in my already cramped workshop.

I think Jet has a good idea here and if you are in the market for a new dust collector I would certainly check out the new Jet cannister filter models. I have not used this filter long enough to give any advice on how well it holds up but it seems well made. I have to wonder if the filter media would eventually become clogged at least partially with fine sanding dust that the flappers would not loosen. I know that bags lose some of their efficiency after a lot of use because of fine particles lodged in the pores of the material, but new bags don't cost $189.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dust Cannister retrofit revisited
I wrote my earlier review when I received a box that contained only the 20" retrofit, which is the middle part of the dust collector. The converter allows you to attach a clear plastic bag at the bottom of the dust collector, replacing the felt bag, This makes emptying the bag a breeze. Just take it off, tie it off with a twistie, and put a new plastic bag in place. The bag is secured with a cloth lined snap ring, and is a huge improvement over the old metal band.

It turns out the cannister arrived the following day in a separate box, although neither the invoice or packing slip indicate there were two boxes. The nice thing about the cannister is that it is about 18" shorter than the bag it replaces, and it is a WHOLE lot less dusty. I've haven't had the chance to run this for any length of time, but just in the ease of changing the lower bag and the 2 micron filter capacity and reduced size of the cannister makes this a winner already.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT what is pictured
I ordered the cannister that was pictured as the 20" retro kit with houseing. What I recevied was an adapter, ie. the middle of the dust collector that accepts the bottom bag and the top cannister. I have NOT received the cannister fileter. I'm trying to figure out if this is a two part shipment or if the catalog listing is just wrong. In either event, what I thought I was buying based on the picture and description is NOT what I received. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!
Bought my with a JW1049 Dust Collection Separator in an attempt to maximize its capacity. The thing works great. By-the-way, I DID receive the accesory kit that so many reviewers seem to be missing. It came in a seperate box and I have not found it all that useful (yet) but I did get it.......

2-0 out of 5 stars What you see is Not what you get
Unit does not include the flex hose, the extension arm, or the dust hood. In the June,03 tool crib catalog pg.28 the description "Packaged with adjustable extension arms, you can position the dust port exactly where you need it." This is not misleading advertising, this is false advertising. I am pretty sure there are laws concerning false advertising

2-0 out of 5 stars WATCH OUT!
When I recieved this item it contained the blower and bag ONLY! No hose. No extension arm. No dust port. All those items have to be ordered seperately.
I complainded to Amazon about this and they were very courteous and prompt in apologizing. Naturally, I was offered a full refund.
This is actually a good powerful unit. I just can't believe that JET is so cheap that they won't include a few bucks worth of cheap hardware.

1-0 out of 5 stars No excuse for 30 micron bag
OSHA and numerous physicians and industrial health experts posit the dust that does the most damage to our lungs is 10 microns or smaller. Why do so many "dust collectors" come with 30 micron bags? Answer: Because the companies that sell them are more interested in their bottom line than your health.

If you buy a dust collector like this to simply keep your work area clean, then it does the trick. If you want a clean work area AND clean lungs, don't waste your money on this unit (or any unit that doesn't have 1 micron bags).

4-0 out of 5 stars No complaints - 4.5 stars here
For a small workshop or on a jobsite, this dust collector is great. It's easy to move, powerful, and fairly quiet. I use mine on jobsites and in my garage workshop, where it takes up little room and sucks up almost everything. I use it with my planer, tablesaw, jointer, and even as a shopvac. I would have given it a 5 star rating except for the fact that there is a black plastic guard over the impeller which prevents it from collecting planer shavings well. Simply remove it and it works perfectly ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Awesome. Jet is the way to go! High quality and great performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super machine.
Great piece of equipment. Very solid piece of top-notch equipment that operates quietly and vibration free. The direct-drive unit delivers plenty of power (especially when wired for 230 V) and has no belts to slip, adjust or wear out. The built-in dust collection with a single 4" connection make hooking it up to a dust collector a simple operation.

The sander weighs over 200 lbs., so have a friend or some good lifting equipment available for unpacking and assembly.

The closed cabinet base is very nice and has a much smaller footprint compared to an open stand. If you plan to move this unit, I recommend removing the installed wheels and brakes and put it on a mobile base. The no-swivel wheels are not much use unless you plan to move the sander in straight lines only. The wheels also narrow the base support enough to make the unit slightly unstable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
I recently recieved this sander. The enclosed base is nice- good storage for the tables and extra discs/betls. Its very nice- lots of power, the spring loaded belt tension arm is a nice touch, although the tracking adjustment requires attention more often than other sanders I've used - it does the job though. The dust collection works pretty well, the miter gauge isn't very accurate, but for normal wood-working it should suffice. Nice machine, my second Jet tool. ... Read more

A nice, easy to order kit of the needed items for a DC system. The kit includes 2 blast gates, one "Y" connector, 10 wire clamps, 2 ten foot sections of hose, a table saw hood and another dust hood, all for a 4" system. You save a few bucks by ordering the kit versus each item separately.

All connectors went together with the hose as required, the wire clamps fit snug, everything went as well as could be expected. A few holes needed drilled in the table saw hood for attachment, but that is expected for a universal type attachment. No complaints, problems or issues. Just a good product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for Craftsman with a few modifications!
I have the Craftsman 14" Bandsaw (22424), also made by Reliant? It's a great saw, 2 speed, 1.5 horse motor. Unfortunately, though it [wasn't cheap] less than the Jet, it also had a 6" throat depth, and for resawing planks or rounding corners to turn a bowl, this was just not useful for me. I found the Jet accessory, and with modification time, by myself, I had this thing installed in less than an hour.

In order to proceed successfully, you need a handheld grinder and a table grinder with a decent wheel. You'll notice that while you're installing the kit the instructions are a bit off. You will need to remove the switch plate, but not unplug it as you would on the Jet. You have to do this in order to get at the screw hidden behind it. You also have to remove the 4 screws and take off the lower door to get at the lower plate. You need to grind off (or drill for new) studs that hold the top assembly to the base. There are 4 to grind - the ones on the new spacer block and the ones on the old block. It's pretty apparent, and you have to grind only about a half-inch from the 3/8" studs for the block to fit.

Once it's together (balance the screwhead/washer _inside_ the block while you carefully place the top, it will catch and hold the top upright while you tighten), you'll have to grind a 1/16" or so tenon about 1.5 inches up from the bottom of the saw-foot support column. You'll see what it looks like once you get the old one off. Once that's together, you're set, and can saw away. Mine's been holding up for awhile, even though I worried about the stability with the little studs gone. It's fine, and saws through 10" rounds like they were butter. As everyone else said, get a new blade right away. You'll be glad you did. A 105" 1/2" 3TPI blade works wonders for resawing.

This is a great deal, and gives you a whole new saw. You'll love it! I wish I could give it 10 stars! For [not very much money], I feel like I have a brand new [top of the line] saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition....
If you do a lot of resaw or as in my case, make a lot of bandsaw box's this is a great addition. As other's have mentioned its a two person job, but the instructions and materials are top notch.I would also reccommend that you add Carter type guides to your saw at the same time. These really help with the resaw aspect and are a must for the small blades used in making bandsaw box's. The included blade wasn't much but I didnt think it would be, so no dissappointment there. The rest of the parts were good quality and everthing fit well. Took about twenty minutes to install and a few more minutes of adjusting. Thanks to the other reviewer for the tip on reinstalling the power cord. With a Timber Wolf 3/4" resaw blade I can now square up larger pieces of "firewood" to use for my bandsaw box's and it also enables me to get away from the 6x6 dimension that was my standard. I would reccommend this add on to anyone wishing to increase the size of material they can work with.

4-0 out of 5 stars You better have the right tools, or 2 people
This would take 2 people with the right tools about 10 minutes. It took me 1 hour...mainly because I don't have a 15/16" wrench and my adjustable pliers would barely fit. Furthermore, my attmpt at hanging the upper arm from the rafters while tigtening the bolt 1/4" turn at a time was...uhh...nearly very dangerous. I am glad I made the purchase, but in the future would love to have known that I needed allen keys, and a crescent wrench set and someone to hold the upper arm while I tightened the nut. This thing is rock-solid, and makes resawing 12" quite the pleasure.

1-0 out of 5 stars Still no riser block
Wish I could give an honest review of the actual product...don't let that disclaimer of shipment in 1 to 2 weeks fool you!!! I ordered mine on May 19th and as of today, July 8th, no riser block. Amazon continues to delay shipment every couple of weeks with an estimated delivery date now of sometime at the beginning of August. You would think that with the Jet bandsaw as one of their better sellers, they would keep a good number of these on hand. I am about to take my business elsewhere!

5-0 out of 5 stars Added versatility can't be beat
...no matter where I looked, Including JET's own site, I could not come up with a listing of included parts, and the tiny picture of kit found on everyone's web site is nearly useless. Sure I trust JET -- but only to a point. For those like me who have modified their bandsaw with accessories like the Carter de-tensioner, or roller bearings, rest assured this kit will still fit, and you won't lose any functionality.

The parts in my kit were as follows:

1. Rear blade guard (metal, not the cheezy plastic that came with the saw)

2. Longer v-grooved shaft for the front/upper blade guard, enabling your upper guides to extend all the way to the table-top. Read the instructions carefully to install this one, or you'll be chasing a very small ball-bearing around your shop.

3. Front Blade Guard -- sheet metal, just like the original, but with an adjustable extension. Mine didn't quite fit the bolt holes, even on the OEM guide, but a couple passes with a file fixed it in short order.

4. Cast Aluminum Riser Block and hold-down screw.

5. 105" saw blade -- toss it out and buy a TimberWolf brand.

Assembly was a snap. Mine went together in about 20 minutes. The hardest part was balancing the upper roller assembly while tightening the hold-down screw. Not really too big of an issue, but a third hand to hold the bolt steady while you hand-tighten the nut would be helpful. Alternately, you could do as I did and use a piece of tape on the bolt head to keep it from turning as you snug the nut.

After it's all set according to included instructions, you may want to go one step further and tap a 10-32 hole in the back of the original lower cast aluminum bracket. It will allow you to re-use the original power cable loom (W shaped bracket) and thus keep the power cords from chafing on the lower blade door. The instructions don't call for this, but it's never a good idea to allow power cords to rub against sheet metal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little timesaver!
I'm not a home improvement enthusiast. Don't know why Amazon put that there. (Stupid!) I'm a hobby machinist.

I compared several different Asian made 5x6 bandsaws. Don't believe it when someone tells you they're all the same.

The Jet was very easy to assemble and use. Very solid base. UL approved motor that is bigger than some other bandsaws have. Nice fit-and-finish.

Some other ones I checked on needed to have additional bracing added due to a flimsy base. I had read about some of the others having motors prone to overheating and meltdown.

Bought mine locally for $249.99. Don't understand how Amazon can charge a $70 premium. Around $250 seems to be everyone's prices except Amazon. $319.99! Ridiculous!

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
Problems on assembly:
1) Center hole on cast iron base @ both ends was not centered + did not line up to the leg cross brace. Fix: used air grinder to grind cross brace hole wider.
2) Instructions for the installing the adust. feet were vague. Just says use "provided hardware". Fix: used my incredible powers of observation and deduction to determine what goes where.
3) The leg cross brace opposite of motor has an interference problem w/switch box. Fix: ground the cross brace to form a notch to clear switch box.

Usage:
1) table for vertical cuts is flimsy. Only single support underneath - needs 2. could not level table since there is no adjustment.
2) Adjustment of eccentric bearing requires a thin wrench to fit between bearing + support casting.
3) The blade covering has to be put on "just right" otherwise interference with the stop bolt occurs.
4) When moving the miter vise plate, the hold down bolt interferes w/the screw that holds the scale strip. Loosening the bolt enough will get past the interference unless the angle you want is right where the interference occurs.

In general:
The motor has enough power for cuts. I've been cutting 4130 .125 steel and the motor never bogged down. Horizontal cuts is this machines best use. vertical cutting leaves a lot to be desired but this could be because the blade's tooth pitch did not match up to the metal type. But,as stated above, the table doesn't help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little tool
This is a great tool for cutting metal. Works as well as expected. Requires few adjustments. Just setup and go. I really like mine. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Because shop disc sanders are often used for quick little jobs, they tend to not get hooked up to a dust collector with every use. This new model from JET solves that problem by including its own built-in high airflow dust collection impellor and 2-micron canister filter. Any time you turn it on--whether for 15 minutes of serious sanding or 30 seconds of cleaning up a saw cut--your dust is collected and your shop air stays clean. The machine runs on a 1-horsepower, totally enclosed, fan-cooled motor that provides ample power for any sanding task you come up with. It has a hefty 12-inch steel disc, with a manual brake for quickly slowing it down and stopping. You also get a generous cast-iron table that tilts from 90 to 45 degrees, along with a miter gauge and circle jig. All in all, this is a great sander at a great price that will provide a long life of service in your shop. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Reduce Hose Size, Increase Air Suction
If you need to step down in the DC system, which is recommended, this works great. The ends are to size stated, the hose fit easily and the wire clamps put it all together snuggly. The fitting allows you to step down from a larger main line to smaller branch lines near the machine, thus increasing the air suction, where it's needed most, by the machine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does not adapt the JET 6" Jointer to a "standard" shop vac
This adapter had the proper O.D. on the 2.5" side so that the end of my shop vac. hose fit in properly. But the dust chute on the 6" JET Jointer I bought from Amazon.com has the same O.D. as the nominally 4" side of this adapter (so they don't fit together well). No big deal for me: what I did was take a thin-blade hack saw, slice four cuts at 90 degree separation in the walls of the ~4" end, slip it over the dust chut on the jointer, wrap duct tape around the outside of the adapter's large end (while attached to the jointer), and now I've got a removable adapter that actually works. If you can't find the right part (I could not, looking high and low), this is a reasonable solution for those who can handle the minor frustration of the imperfect solution.

5-0 out of 5 stars The two most popular sizes can now talk to one another
This adapter is great for mating the popular 2 1/2" vacuum hose size to your 4" hoses. This 4" is a male end that will fit well into your 4" hose acting as a female, and the 2 1/2" end is a female that will receive your 2 1/2" hose as a male. :-) I don't know why that is so funny, but it strkes me that way. That is the best description I can give it. These Jet adapters fit perfectly.
To securely connect this adapter, I suggest that you buy the Jet wire connectors, instead of the standard band clamps. Since most dust collection hoses have a wire running through them, band clamps can not compress them. The Jet wire clamp goes around the wire in the hose, and it grips the material directly to the fitting. I tried using the band clamps, and after having to reattach them on a regular basis, I went to the Jet 4" wire clamps, that is why I am making such a big deal out of it. I have never had to retighten, or reinstall the hose on the adapter since. The wire clamps work perfectly. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fits great!
The description by Robert Feeser (one of the top 500 reviewers in Amazon) explains 'This adapter is great for mating the popular 2 1/2" vacuum hose size to your 4" hoses. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured
The adapter I received has a flat interface, not the funnel style shown. That makes a difference if using the piece with the airflow going from 4" to 2 1/2" due to increased turbulence.

If you're planning to use this downstream from large to small diameter then I suggest you find one that is indeed funnel-shaped. ... Read more

JET'splaner uses two double-edged knives, which you can also sharpen to makeyour blades last. A thermal overload switch monitors the tool's motor, automatically shutting it down if the motor heats up more than itshould--another nice feature that adds life to a planer. The cutterheadcranks up to handle 6-inch material, or cranks down to clean up veneeras thin as 1/16 inch. The tool weighs 69 pounds, so it has good heftand stability while remaining "portable." When the planer is not inuse, the 10-inch extension wings fold up for storage. Two pass-backrollers on top of the planer make it easy for a spotter to slide longerpieces back to the guy feeding the planer; it's not a big deal, perhaps, but it's the sort of attention to detail we've come to expectfrom JET. Here's another: the on/off switch detaches, so you can lockthe planer in the off position when it's not in use, keeping yourworkshop safe from curious hands. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great planer!
I have had this planer for over two years!
Have run 100's of board feet of white oak through it with NO problems at all.

I always thought that this planer would not make it with my use but it keeps working great. The depth adjustment is always right on for me. For some time I have been thinking that a bigger planer should be in my shop. Many times the depth of cut was pretty deep just to see if I could burn this one up and have an excuse to get a bigger planer....well it just won't burn up!

You need the additional dust collection chute for this unit. It's a must to have it connected to a dust collector, will NOT run without it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Be aware of what you really need in a planer...
I do small remodeling and custom cabinet work. When I looked into purchasing a 12" planer the Jet unit seemed to be the right choice. It arrived o.k. and worked out of the box. Now, here comes the kicker...what I really required was a much heavier unit to accomplish my type of work.

The unit spits out quite a bit of wood chips and there is no dust collection included. After calling Jet, and paying a whopping [money], plus handling, the simple metal accessory arrived (4" connection) and accomplished the necessary dust connection for my big collector.

The next problem showed up in the height adjustment setting. You test the demensioning of a piece of stock, set the depth adjustment a bit tighter, and begin your first run. The vibration shakes the machine and the depth adjustment handle begins a slow return to a less pressure position. Simply put, it opens the gap. The "fix" was positioniong a clamp each time a new adjustment is required to hold the handle in place. This is a bother!

The next problem came with the two rollers on top. They fell off! I gathered the fallen pins and after applying "lock tight", reinstalled them. This fixed this problem!

The primary problem is in my application. I have attempted to run "old" reclaimed cypress and pine through the planer and I get a lot of noise and little planing! The TWO planer blades and the SMALL MOTOR don't have the power to handle this work.

So...if you are a hobby type of person looking for a cheap way to plane your stock; well, there is no cheap way to accomplish it. You will have to settle for small width boards (less power required), soft woods with few knots (less power requjired) and get your clamp out to hold the adjustment.

On the plus side for the Jet, the planer blades can be removed and replaced with the jig (included with your planer)in short order. You must attach the two jig fittings to the bar and position them properly; there is a front and back to the contact points. Anyone with commom skills can make quick work of all this.

For me, I'm purchasing the next Jet in the HP chain, the [money] unit which I hope will solve all these problems.

If you only have [money], and can fit into the mold above, go for it. But, remember what I've told you.

All this from a fellow woody kind of a guy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Class
After several months of review reading and research I picked the Jet. Several woodworking mags rated it higher than the Delta and a better value than the Ryobi. Here's the clincher - JET CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AMAZING. I may just buy all Jet tools from her on out because the Customer Service Dept is so incredibly helpful and accomodating (ask for Dan - he's the man!). Happy sawdust making.

4-0 out of 5 stars Early returns are good!
Have only had the planer for a few days. So far so good. It's much quieter than I had expected and the feed rate is smooth. Came packed quite well with no damage and very little set-up. You attach the handle and adjust the levelness of the tables. The tables are very large compared to the Delta and include a great roller on the ends. Easy to level. I was a little concerned with the finish... as in the the paint job. There are places on it where the paint was slopped on. You can tell the guy with the spray gun stayed in one place too long. There are also some areas on the bottom where the paint is already chipped. Jet seems to think that's ok and actually includes a small can of paint with the planer. That's good because I can also touch up my bandsaw with it. The motor seems to be quite stout and the adjustment handle works well. I haven't used the head lock mechanism yet and probably won't. The four columns seem to work well. There are springs below the head cutter and they creak and shift when you move the head. Not a big deal but can be a bit disconcerting. The thickness gauge was right on and I didn't have to adjust it. Still not sure how accurate the depth of cut gauge is though. Looks a bit gimmicky so far. Overall a great planer and I'm very excited to use it more. I'm saving a fifth star for a year from now when I have a better idea of its durability.

5-0 out of 5 stars precision portable planner
Having this planer only one week, im already throughly impressed with this Jet product. There was virtually no set up time in aligning the table with the input/out feed rollers. So i was using it within 20 minutes after unpacking the item(packed and shipped well). Great control of snipe, by the use of the locking tabs and extended rollers. Excellent height indicater and the machine isn't that loud, but sure can create quite the saw dust. I think my next purchase is the 4 inch dust hood attachment. You can't bet the vaule of Jet, along with the great price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best For Hooking Up Hoses
I've tried the band type of clamp and they simply do not hold over the long haul. The wire clamps allow you to tighten the clamp down for a firm grip in the fixture. My opinion, the wire clamps are the best thing since sliced bread for hooking up a duct collection system.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Clamp...The Best Price
If your hooking up a dust collection system, the proper clamps can make all of the difference. The standard band type clamps are not properly suited to the job. The unique thing about dust collection hoses, is that they are generally made out of smooth, slippery plastic, with a stiff wire running through them for support and/or grounding. This poses a problem for standard band clamps, because the clamp is too wide to get between the wires. Therefore you have a clamp pushing down on the wire. Since the wire is rigid and in a circle, you would have to compress the circle (ain't gonna happen). Therefore a wire clamp such as these, with twin rigid wires is just what the doctor ordered.
I tried everything from duct tape, which gets soft after a while and loses it, to band clamps. When I finally got a set of these, my hoses stay put, and they don't leak. They are easy to install, and you can put a good torque on them, and not have to worry so much about them messing the thread the way a band clamp does. With the Jet 4" wire hose clamp you are dealing with a nut and a threaded bolt instead of a screw and some sheet metal. Definitely a lot stronger with the Jet wire.
The bottom line, when attaching a 10 foot-4" vac hose to a plastic 4" fitting, you can pick up the hose, move it around, and not worry about the hose coming off, the way it does with the band clamps sometimes.
Great unit, great price, get a few extras. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands Down - The Best Clamp
I read other reviews before purchasing this clamp and am really glad I did. What I like is that the wires make great contact between the ribs of the hose and screw down very tight. Later I purchased the flat band kind from a local store and agree that this wire type is much better. It's much beefier than I thought it would be. Definitely the best clamp I've come across.

JET is a favorite with woodworkers because of power, precision, and quality. Mounted atop a rock-solid closed cabinet are a 6-inch wide belt sander as well as a 9-inch disc sander, each with an angle-capable work table and miter gauge slot--two slots, actually, on the disc sander table for cross-disc work as well as straight-on sanding. Jet took the quality a notch higher on this model by putting a graphite sheet on the belt platen, keeping the temperature down and extending belt life. Tracking is sometimes tricky with belt sanders, so we're glad to see the single tracking adjustment knob and the quick-lock handle that keeps the belt from wandering. Changing belts is a snap--just release the belt tension lever. The 4-inch dust port accepts a standard dust-collection system hose and draws from both sanders, keeping the mess out of your shop and your lungs. The 3/4-horsepower motor runs the belt sander at 2258 rpm and the disc at 1725 rpm, enough to handle big jobs without bogging down. There's even space in the cabinet to store abrasives.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Jet 708597K Combination 9" Disc / 6" x 48" Belt Sander
Purchased in February 2004 to replace a smaller sander that wore out after 15 years. I was impressed with the quality of the machine. Tracking was easily set up and has stayed true. Plenty of power, smooth operation and the vaccuum system is helpful in dust removal. Only negative was in the foot lever to lock the wheels which bent if I engaged the lock with a foot. Worked fine if one used a hand to set the lock. This flimsey locking mechanism should be improved.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT VALUE
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS UNIT. IT IS MY FIRST JET PRODUCT AND I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY AND OPERATION. WAS A LITTLE SKEPTICLE AT FIRST BECAUSE OF THE SMALLER H.P. MOTOR , BUT SOON FOUND OUT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sander - Great Value
I bought this sander from Tool Crib a few months ago. It wasn't on the Amazon.com site at the time.

I went with the open stand because I wanted some storage below. Not sure if that's an option thru Amazon.com.

The sander was easy to set up. The fit and finish was excellent. It runs smooth, though the graphite platen behind the belt sander it somewhat noisy. It seems to have quieted a bit with more use. Bits of the graphite material get all over the place for about the first 15 mins of use but that seems to have taken care of itself.

I found the belt a little tough to adjust as to maintain a given lateral position on the rollers. This is my first belt sander so that might just be due my lack of familiararity with the machine.

The sander has ample power. I have yet to get it to bog down on pine, maple or white oak. The tables are very good. The disk table is machined cast iron and well built. The belt table seems to be pressed from heavy sheet metal but has worked fine for me. It's not flimsy at all. It was fairly easy to square everything up and set the stops. Though on the belt table, I had to leave a little extra gap between the belt and the table because when you tighten the table locks, it seems to pull the table toward the belt. Not a big deal though.

Dust collection is better than I expected. There are sliding panels in the rear of the sander to direct the collection from either the disk or belt sander area. I thought this was good idea. I have a 1-1/2 HP Delta dust collector located about 15 feet from the sander and the combination seems to do a good job at keeping the sanding dust down.

Other than the preceeding minor issues, I think this is a great sander. The value is hard to beat, if not impossible to beat. I find that the sander is very stable on the open stand. It gives me extra storage with a shop-made plywood shelf and saved me a few bucks. Though the closed stand does look nice I though function was more important.

I recommend this sander highly. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Hosed !!
This is an excellent Dust Collection Hose. It does measure a consistent 4" and always fit easily over the connection fitting. It is somewhat flexible and very rigid, but will not coil back into itself. This might be a problem if you move your equipment back and forth.

The other hose options are a Clear Hose, which allows you to see any possible clugs and air blocks in the DC system. And there is a 50 foot coil hose, which is not as rigid, but it is sturdy and it will coil back into itself, allowing for the movement of machinery.

I used all three in my DC system. The clear hose where large particles would be generated (lathe, bore machine), the 10 foot rigid hose in areas that would always remain fixed in location. And the 50 foot coil hose (cut up, of course) on machine that I move back and forth from the wall to the garage floor. I don't have endless space in the garage for all the "needed" equipment I have to use.

All three hoses work just fine, no problems, no issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
I use several of these hoses in my shop to connect power tools to my Jet vacuum system. They work great. They work the best with the wire clamps. I recommend using a distribution of rigid plastic or metal pipe to get to the woodworking machine, then use one of these hoses to connect the machine to the rigid system. These hoses also can be used to vacuum the floor or other areas but are a bit clumsey due to the large diameter. ... Read more
