4-0 out of 5 stars Great drill for do it your selfers.
This is a great drill for light to medium jobs. The battery life is good, get about 2 to 3 hours of steady use. Good control and touch. Not too heavy and very comfortable to handle. Would not recomend this drill for heavy or commercial use, but its stated by the manufacturer. Wish it had a bit more torque and two speed settings, but i guess that might take away from the great touch that this drill has.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
Light weight, long battery life and very reasonable price. This is my go to drill for all but the heaviest jobs. I do a lot of woodworking and this is my favorite drill for drilling pilot holes and driving screws. The grip is very comfortable and can be used for extended periods of time without discomfort. For this price you can't beat it for light duty use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Saw, Great Price
I needed a recip for a job and didn't want to pay a lot as my helper has a nice Milwaukee so i bought this at Home Depot. Was I impressed, have used it for over 10 hours on jobsites in everything from steel to plastic and never had a problem. My helper with the nice Milwaukeee ends up using my Skil as it is easier to hold and doesn't vibrate so much. I highly recommend this saw. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money.
I bought this sander a couple of weeks ago and I have used it nearly everyday since. I've been building an end table and a couple of different mantle clocks and have given this sander a pretty good workout. The motor is plenty powerful and I haven't noticed any swirl marks even with the 80 grit paper. I have noticed that it is not entirely dustless since it will get some light dust gathering on the base of the tool but nothing floating in the air. For $40 I don't think you can go wrong with this tool.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless: blade clamp has 4-5 degree play
Even with TWO edge clamps (both sides of shoe), cut pulls 4-5 degrees to the left with all materials and all blades, even 3/4" flush cut blade, until blade binds or breaks. This on simple straight cuts--wouldn't dare try it at an angle or on scroll work. Will try to get my money back and pay twice for quality I should have bought in the first place.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of features, where's the accuracy?
The main problem with this saw is that the blade isn't held firmly enough by the tool-free clamp to make an accurate cut. I realize that this saw costs about half of what a good DeWalt or Porter Cable jig saw costs, but come on! Make that only 1/3 the cost of a good saw since Lowes is currently blowing these dogs out for $45.

The lightweight shoe has a sloppy feel to it, which only hurts your ability to make a decent cut. You don't so much adjust the angle of the base as you lock a pin into one of several pre-stamped holes at pre-set angles, and it feels very imprecise.

The sight light is supposed to cast a shadow where the blade is headed, but I can't bring myself to trust it. I'm thinking of just cutting off the wire that makes the shadow so I at least get the benefit of the light. The selector that lets you choose whether the dust gets blown away or sucked up through the vacum port is O.K.

I haven't found the 360 degree blade rotation feature to be helpful. I'm used to turning the entire saw when making fine cuts, and this feature just seems to make you use two hands do the work of one hand. Since the radius of a cut you can make is limited by the width of the blade I'm not sure why Skil went to the effort to include this feature.

I'm giving this saw a two star rating because I haven't used it a lot and haven't yet hurt myself with it. (...)

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheaply Made and Dangerous to Use
I bought this saw new and was very disappointed. The no-tool blade release is great except it does not hold the blade securely when in use. When I tried to cut at a 45-degree bevel, the foot plate exposes so much blade it is very dangerous if the blade should ever break. The plate is also difficult to adjust. The rip guide bent when I tried to rip a straight piece. Forget trying to use the rip guide on any bevel. When trying to cut curves, the blade easily comes out of the "wheel guide" and the blade then bends and wonders off line. The trigger on-off switch is too easily accidently turned on. All in all, I am thoroughly unimpressed with this Skil jigsaw and wish that I had never bought the thing. I thought I was getting a good saw for the reasonable price of $69.00. I guess you do get what you pay for.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a deal for 69 Bucks, for straight cuts
Yeah I bought the saw, I said for 69 bucks, you'd have to be crazy to buy the 140 dollar one. Then I used it to cut out some circles in plywood at an angle, because I was making trim plates for AC pipes in the rafters. The blade never fell out, but I never got a positive lock on it, and finally it went crooked. The guide plate was funky, trying to adjust it 45 degrees. I messed with it for 1/2 and hour, and then went to the book. Book was vague.

I found that you have to be crazy to buy this saw, unless you want to injure yourself, like lose your fingers, or have blade fly in your face.

The saw is perfect if you want to cut straight. Circular saw does this better and faster. Marketing is perfect, I believed every word on the box and bought it. This saw is an 5 amp accident waiting to happen. I value my eyes, face and fingers, I'll pay another 70 bucks for that protection.

1-0 out of 5 stars a hazard
first of all, like someone already mentioned 2 finger start button is dangerous. second, the blade fell out while i was cutting twice, and i wasn't putting to much pressure on it either. just an accident waiting to happen. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not for the pro
This is a pretty good starter router table. but the router that comes with it is a plunge router with no micro adjust knob.
so it's very hard to adjust the bits height (you have to hold the table down while pushing the router up). i like the router table itself but i reccommend mounting a fixed base router in it and using the plunge for something else. the router itself is not the best router in the world but i find myself reaching for it the most. the plunge lock lever isn't nearly as easy to use as the one on the porter-cable 8529 but it works fine. one improvement that this router needs is a better chip shield, the one it has just will not stay on it keeps popping off!
bottom line: this router/table combo is great for the "weekend woodworker" but i wouldn't reccomend it to professionals. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Skill 6443 1/2" Slugger Hammer Drill
Im not impressed with this drill. It's ok with wood but the hammer is not that powerful, and it also neede regular maintenance.

1-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
Bought this product to drill a total of 24 1/2" holes in concrete (yes i used a masonry bit, even used smaller bits for pilots). The FWD/REV switch locked up within 5 holes. THe variable speed trigger operated at either full speed or slow, no in between. By hole # 18, it competely burned out. Wish I had put the $$ down on a reliable unit. Don't waste your $$.

5-0 out of 5 stars A winner within its class
I bought this hammer-drill to take on the small holes and thereby give my more expensive hammer-drills and rotary-hammers a break. As far as I'm concerned this tool excels in drilling 3/16", 1/4" and 5/16" holes...it's as good as a Milwaukee at a third of the price. I use it for setting the smaller screw anchors in masonry (EMT clamps, electrical boxes, etc.).
I think bigger holes are best left to rotary-hammers anyway because they are so much more efficient. (and costlier!)

1-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for... well, not quite!
I bought this little beauty at my local superstore, and returned it an hour later. I only had a small project to do and the price was slightly more than double the rental fee for a Bosch 1/2" hammer drill. I figured with a two year warranty I had nothing to lose, all I had to do was use it three times and I would be ahead of the game. (I would never use a hammer drill often enough to justify purchasing the Bosch at three times the price.) I drilled eight holes 4" deep in concrete with this baby, using a brand new 1/2" carbide tipped masonry bit. The motor got hot and started to smell after the first hole. During the eight holes, the chuck loosened up three times, and finally on the ninth hole, thick smoke poured out and I stopped for fear that it was going to burst into flames. I immediately switched to my trusty 10 year old Milwaukee 1/2" drill (which is not a hammer drill, but drilled 12 more holes in about twice the time, without ever getting warm), and finished the job. I don't see how this thing would be good for drilling anything but wood, but if that's all you are doing, spend half the money and buy a rotary drill. If you need a hammer drill for a small project, or don't have much money, RENT one, don't waste your money on this!

4-0 out of 5 stars What do you want- egg in your beer?
I needed a hammer drill to attach ledger boards to my house's concrete foundation. This tool was 10 bucks less to own than a full-day rental would cost at the local Rent-A-Tent. I didn't experience any problems and I poked a dozen holes in the wall. It seemed to work as well as a Makita drill I have used in the past

Of course, when I see a tool start to smoke, I take a break. But that's just me. While I didn't wait for flames to shoot out the side to turn off the drill, I don't deny that more expensive drills with more metal parts will stand up to heavier, more prolonged use. But hey, I already have a good general use drill. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is, how often do you need a HAMMER drill? If you're Harry-Homeowner hanging some peg board in your basement you will appreciate how much better it works on masonry than a regular drill, and it's a bargain to boot. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fair saw as long as you dont use it
I was excited about the sight light to help make accurate cuts. That is a good feature, but overall this saw isn't worth the money. The height adjustment broke the second time I adjusted it and now I'm stuck using it for plywood only. No more 2x4's for this saw. It does cut fairly well though and is comfortable to use. For a circular saw it is fairly accurate and easy to cut straight lines, but just don't adjust it or it will break. The case is also a joke. It does not fit in the case easily. My advice is to spend a few extra dollars and get a real saw from makita, dewalt, or porter-cable.

5-0 out of 5 stars More bang for your buck!
First and foremost, do your homework. If you are planning on making your living with a circular saw being one of your major tools, you might want to choose something a bit beefier. However, if you are a homeowner/occasional user, this saw is great! I would buy it a hundred times over.

After a good deal of research, I settled on this brand and model. My needs are not that great. Brand-wise, Skilsaw has always been known for good, economical saws. Model-wise, the 5700 compares nicely to some of the big names, but at half (or more) of the price.

My first project with the saw was trimming some 5/4 rough-cut oak to square it up. With a straight edge run length wise (over 10'), the 5700 sliced like butter! Now, keep in mind, that this was after I put in a different blade. Like the other reviews say, buy a different blade! The one in the box is, well... junk. I bought a Freud Diablo and it makes for easy work on whatever your project is.

Here are some pro's and con's:
PRO:
+ The saw is light. It doesn't take much to operate it.
+ The boot seems to be flat and true.
+ The "Site-light" is a nice bonus if your shop isn't well lit.
+ The rubber grips feel great, plus add just enough grip for greater control.
+ Plenty of power.

CON:
- The boot could be a bit bigger.
- The case is a touch whimpy, as it is plastic. (Though many of today's circ. saws are.)
... I can't think of any others!

Hope this review helps you in your decision.
A woodworker

5-0 out of 5 stars great saw, great price
This tool has great feel, both because it is light and has the rubber grips. the sight line is great and the front flip guide helps greatly in maintaining a straight cut, at both 90- and 45-degrees. Has plenty of power for whatever I need. The case is plastic, and the latches are flimsy, but it is still servicable for the unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this little saw
I've been a building contractor for 25 years and I've always used heavy-duty worm gear saws, but I bought this saw for my daughter when I helped her remodel her condo. I found I liked it better than my own saw for most work. No, I wouldn't recommend it for a tradesman or for heavy framing, but for a homeowner it's terrific. I love the site light. Had no trouble cutting straight lines, cutting at an angle, notching, whatever. I just ordered a second one - for my son. I'll probably be borrowing it all the time, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Skill 5700 - Good Saw, needs adjustment
Skill has a known defect on this saw. The Depth adjustment lever is made of soft plastic, which strips out very easily. I used my 5700 for only a few days before the lever broke. Just call Skil and they will send you a replacement (re-engineered) lever which should do the job and last much longer.

Overall, i like the saw very much. I used it to build a deck, cutting easily through pressure treated lumber (used to notch out 4x4 posts and trim 2x6's to size). I found that the saw is accurate, if you adujust the sights prior to usage. The instruction manual tells you how to do this, all you need is a screwdriver. The site light is very useful, and the soft grip handles make the saw easy to control, even through kickback. Replaced my 30 year old skil saw with this one. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Skil 2936 needs better batteries
I purchased the Skil 2936 screwdriver and a spare battery Feb 2003 from Lowes. The screwdriver itself is light, balanced, and works good for very light tasks. However, The batteries will not hold a charge for more than a day or two, even when fully charged and just sitting idle. The batteries lose their charge even though they are not in the screw driver. If I want to use the Skil I have to make sure the batteries are charged the evening before I plan to use the screwdriver. While in use, the batteries last only a very short time. I contacted Skil via email about the problem and was advised to send it to a service center since Skil does have a two year warranty on this unit. I may or may not do that, as I don't really think the batteries are meant to perform any better since both the batteries hold a charge the same length of time. I did however recently purchase a Dewalt DW20K 7.2 Volt screwdriver from Tool Crib to replace the Skil, and so far have been very impressed with both the screwdriver and Tool Crib. When I bought the Skil, I remember standing in Lowes with the Skil in one hand and the Dewalt in the other and finally deciding on the Skil because I didn't really want to spend $100 on a screwdriver. Too bad, because I've now spent $140 for screwdriver that is usable.
