A mandatory and money-saving accessory
Like others, I shoulda bought it originally. The extension is easy to set up -- 1-2 hours. It dramatically increases the capacity of a 14" saw. My Delta now does resawing that many 18" models cannot handle -- at a fraction of the cost of a bigger saw.

Delta should just build this in -- there is no reason not to have it.

Wish I would have bought it soooooner...
I wouldn't have had to give away so many 93 1/2" blades if I would have bought this with the saw. I bought this at the same time as a Carter Quick Release. The release required that I dismantle the entire upper half of the saw so I figured it would make installation of the riser easier. It did. All I had to remove is the one piece of cast iron. No blade cover, wheel, blade guard etc.

Two tips if installing this by yourself. The new blade guard that comes with this kit wedges nicely between the miter slot and the bend in the upper cast iron column. This allows you to start the washer and nut holding the two halves together without being a contortionist. Also, I had to put the longer bolt on the upper column before installing it on the riser. Not enough clearance on my saw to install the bolt with the column in place. Hope this helps.

Not so hard to add riser
I ordered the riser and it arrived a week later. took it out of the box and started to install with the fear in the back of my mind that the top would fall off etc. etc...

between the top and bottom sections, and also on the riser block, there are pins that make sure you align the block. These alignment pins also allow you to release the top to grab your long connecting bolt and nut and place them. Removing the top is not so scarey, and not so heavy as some might make it out to be...

the directions could have better close up pictures of the adding the new blade guard extension in the fron of the saw.

Now i just have to wait for my new blades to arrive from Timberwolf/Suffolk machinery and i can test this out.

Should have been part of the saw
Be sure to buy this before you invest in too many blades! Your new blade length will be 105" and your cutting height will be doubled!

Necessary Accessory for "Other than Resawing" Too!

Many regard this kit as a "must have" for resawing (making thin boards out of thick ones), and they're right. Additionally, there are other cases where the additional height is needed. Recently, I've been making bandsaw boxes for gifts, and the added height can come in handy when making a deep box (where the box must be stood on its back and cut from front-to-back). Whatever you're cutting, my point is... that at some time in the future, you'll use the extra clearance that this unit provides, even if you don't anticipate doing a lot of resawing.

This kit is more than just the riser block (as the picture shows). You get a new backside blade guard and all the other little pieces made necessary by the saws new reach.

All this stuff is typical Delta quality... Heavier built than any of the Delta [look a like].

Get some help when assembling this unit, however... lifting the upper part of your saw is tricky and frightening: especially if you drop it!!!

While this may seem like a lot to pay for a riser unit, it really changes the class of your saw... turning it into an effective resaw unit that holds its own with more [costly] and larger saws.

Used
I knew that this was going to be a less than great product but I did not expect it to be used. They didnt even bother to clean the sawdust out of it!

Not bad for the money
For the money, this is not a bad item. Other reviewers are correct that it doesn't come with directions, but page 17 of the PDF manual that is linked on Amazon's product page (should be above if you are reading this review)shows the 5 steps needed to square it up. Took me less than 5 minutes. Basically, clamp it down, and loosen the two screws on top until it is square (the manual says to use the miter guage slot to check for square-ness, I used my Swanson Speed Square), then tighten the two screws. You can adjust how tight it clamps to the table by rotating the flip/lock lever until it is as tight as you need. That's it!

Again, for the price I paid, not a bad addition for my 9" band saw. When I get my 14" professional band saw, I'll get a better fence.

Don't buy
Fence was delivered yesterday. No directions on it's use and I can't make it fit securly to the table. I do not recommend it. Will be returning it for credit.

Don't Waste Your Money
Even after shimming this fence and spending a lot of time making adjustments it just doesn't do the job. It does not clamp onto the table tightly and moves when any pressure is applied. You're better off using a peice of scrap wood clamped to the table top. I took the fence to the Delta repair center to see if they could offer advice and they had never even seen this product.

Half-way decent fence for a lackluster band saw
I bought this fence in hopes that it MIGHT improve the performance on my delta 8" band saw. Aside from the face that the band saw is really poorly designed, the fence is just as clumsy a design. It is very stiff to move back and forth on the table and will move unless you tighten it alot. And if you do tighten it alot you have to be Hulk Hogan to push the locking clamp down. It is only about 2" high. However since this is being used on a really bad saw to begin with, how could you possibly expect more. ... Read more

Nice little fence
It is light and feels flimsy but I have been using to resaw 1x4 and it works well. The fence comes with a metal bar that attaches to the band saw table and allow the fence to tighten and stay 90 degrees to the table. I have to admit that when I took it out of the box I didn't think much of it but my opinion changed quickly when I started using it. There are better fences out there but you'll have to get a much more expensive band saw to go with them so in my opinion this is a good buy and a good value.

Delta 28-197 Circle Cutting Attachment for Band Saws
The attachment wasn't at fault!
I had trouble with the circle cut becoming smaller and my blade coming out of the guides. It turns out that I had to tension my blade a little more. I heard some good tips and devoted a couple hours to troubleshooting. After adjusting the tension half way to the next size, the attachment works as expected and instructed. I also rounded the back of the blade and now cut circles easily.

Delta 28-197 Circle Cutting Attachment
I recently purchased the attachment, assembled and adjusted it to my bandsaw (Jet 14" cabinet with a 1/4" 4 tpi blade), placed my project on it and started to cut. The first few inches of the 22 inch diameter circle went okay and then I noticed my band saw blade deflecting toward the jig. The blade continued to creep out of the guides as I turned the project. Each time I backed out and started over, I noticed the circle getting smaller and the blade starting to touch the jig. I disassembled everything, including the blade and guide rollers, readjusted and followed all instructions to the letter yet I still have the same problem with the attachment. Freehand works perfectly with much tighter radii so it's difficult to believe the blade is responsible. I called Delta technical support and was told either the blade was responsible or the jig was located too far forward in front of the blade. Again, I followed the assembly instructions exactly using the spacing bar and setting the middle of the slot to the leading edge of the blade teeth. The jig is flat and square to the table. Since the blade tries to turn into a tighter radius, could the instructions be wrong. If so, how far back do I set the jig?

The quality looks good, it's easy to assemble and adjust but I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. All suggestions or comments would be welcome. Thanks ... Read more

1O " Slide Guides
These phenolic slide guides are barely worth the plastic they are made from. A roller bearing blade guide for the 10" Delta band saw would be a worthwhile investment. The guides wear much too easily when making curved cuts. Using a harder material would be very beneficial and save $7 per set. ... Read more

Wrong Fence
It's too bad I did not read the other reviews concerning this fence before I ordered one. This fence is not for the new imported Delta 14" Bandaws. I called a Delta/Porter Cable service center in Kansas City MO, and was told that the correct fence for the imported saws is 28-856 for the 12 inch fence, and 28-858 for the 24 inch fence. I called Tool Crib, where I purchased the 14" saw and fence, and was treated nicely, and promptly by a customer service person. She advised she was sending a UPS Call Tag to have the fence picked up, and that I am to receive a full credit for the return.

Doesn't work on my14" Delta Bandsaw and stated it did!
This item is advertised to fit all Delta 14" band saws and would not work on mine. Then after numerous emails trying to get Amazon to understand that this was their error and they should be responsible for shipping the item back, they agreed However, they ended up charging me $9.99 to ship the item back! Don't waste your time or money!

Wrong Fence
This fence is not the correct one for the new Taiwan made 14" Delta bandsaws. After contacting Delta they me that it was too short and the correct model was the 28-858 and then hung up on me. So far I can not find the right rip fence and I am fairly disappointed with Delta and Amazon. ... Read more
