Amazon.com Review

The Bosch 1276DVS offers solid, reliable performance plus a few nifty extras, making it an easy-to-use sander that's serious about removing material. Bosch designers listened to customer feedback and developed a front handle that adjusts. Deep detents mean the handle snaps securely into place, giving it a burly feel and stability in any of the six positions. That, combined with nice balance and weight, minimizes user fatigue. Like many of the sanders in this class, the motor is aligned with the belt edge to make flush sanding possible; however, as with other Bosch belt sanders, visibility is somewhat limited once the sander gets into corners.

The belt-changing system works well--we didn't suffer any spring pinches--and the belt tracking adjustment tracks the new belt quickly and keeps it in place. The 1276 gets its "dustless" name from the adjustable shoot that accommodates nonwoven belts up to 8 mm thick. Belt sanders are all about removing stock in a hurry, and the larger the area of sandpaper in contact with material, the faster material is removed. To achieve a perfect finish, it's important that the sander sand flat. The platen on the 1276 is the cork-and-steel type, not as efficient as cast aluminum, but a good, solid performance setup. Plus, the 1276 offers an optional graphite platen--a great high-performance extra. There are a few other accessories available and we liked the sanding stand, which holds the tool in an inverted position for fine finish applications, and the machined-aluminum sanding frame that keeps the sander up off material, reducing pressure on the belt and making smooth finishes easier. By offering these accessories, Bosch makes this already fine tool versatile to boot. --Mark McDonald ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best in it's class
My Bosch 4" DVS belt sander is smooth, powerful and has a low center of gravity for easy handling. It is adjustable for grip and speed and does a good job on anything I've used it for. It's a little heavy for overhead or in-place work but my 3x21 Bosch fills in that gap. This is THE belt sander for the professional woodworker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another GREAT product from Bosch!
This is my favorite tool! I have abused this sander for the past 3 years and it keeps on humm'in. It is so smooth, powerful, lightweight, and easy to handle.

If your a professional woodworker like me or woodworking is your hobby this is the ONLY belt sander to have. It's the quietest belt sander I've ever used.

I always recomend Bosch tools when some one wants to purchase a very powerful and high quality professional power tool. Bosch tools have never let me down. Keep up the good work Bosch!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Monster in Your Hands
If you are planning to own one, be sure to check your physical strength. You'll need strong arms and a good rest to handle this baby, in fact, it's a monster. It weighs a ton, and has power that can hurt your arms for the rest of the day. What I like about this machine is it's power with variable speeds, the ease of the belt change and adjusting. Also the adjustable left-front handle makes it more comfortable. The weight of the machine keeps stabilizing the operation, but the down side is you can't really use it for over your head job. If I need to do that, I would grab a lighter one. One real draw back of the design is the dust bag location. It is placed on the wrong side! and it might get in your way if you are doing a critical sanding. My conclusion, It'a a nice, powerful horse at a reasonable price. It would be even nicer if the carrying case is provided. Thank You Bosch.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best!
Cant say enough good things about this sander--I LOVE it.

Bosch tools have never let me down. Keep up the good work Bosch!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked great for a bit!
I bought this unit to replace a Black and Decker Sand Cat that had destroyed the front belt roller bearing. The unit has tremendous power. The bad part is that it will not sand flush to a wall. Then after using it about 4 times, it just plain quit. I'm lucky enough to have the service center within 5 miles of my house and the power switch was replaced under warranty. Otherwise the sander will take on anything and the belt rollers have decent bearings. ... Read more

Bosch has combined power and performance to create a plungerouter that's ideally suited for virtually any application. The powerful3-1/2-horsepower Bosch 1619EVS offers variable speeds of 8,000 to 21,000rpm and a soft-start feature that minimizes startup torque. With arouter this big and powerful, it's especially nice to have the motorstart up gradually, as opposed to jumping to life the way other modelsdo. Complementing the powerful motor, the 3-3/4-inch base opening allowsthis router to accept large bits, including raised-panel bits. The1619EVS maintains a constant rpm, too, no matter what knots or gnarls abit encounters, thanks to Bosch's Constant-Response Circuitry. And theconvenient front spindle lock makes changing bits a snap betweenapplications. But perhaps the most unique feature of the 1619EVS is itsexclusive under-table setup system, which lets a user make depthadjustments as easy as 1-2-3. --Carl Thress ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Plunger for a Router Table
This is an excellent plunge router with a single exception, the plunge release lever is very difficult to operate with your left thumb, I simply cannot push the lever down far enough to fully disengage the plunge lock without shifting my natural grip on the handle. Other than that, the plunge is smooth, the router feels comfortable in my hands with a minimum of vibration. I was surprised by the lightness and balance of such a powerful router.

The mechanism used to defeat the plunge spring works flawlessly and is very easy to both engage and disengage if you read the instructions carefully. This feature is what sold me on the router in the first place, as it will spend most of its time in the router table. No need to buy a ... router lift accessory with this machine! It came with a fine adjust extension and can be easily micro-adjusted while under the table. I was also delighted to find a dust pick-up attachment in the package, I did not expect that!

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic on all accounts
I am writing in defense of the disengaging mechanisms of this amazingly adequate tool. There are reviews posted that suggest the ergonomics or the instruction manual of the machine are not where they should be. I suggest to those who do not or will not spend enough quality time to get aquainted with this tool: do not buy it. This is a 31/4hp router...way more than you will need around the house. If you cannot figure out how to use this machine safely and properly, send it the hell back....or you will loose a finger, or worse. This engineering marvel resides in my router table most of the time. Adjustment is best in class. I switched from a PC Speedmatic fixed base to this gem. (and the PC is a great machine!) If you need more power than this, you should have a shaper. No router lift needed, it comes with a fine adjustment rod for easy in the table adjustment. It also comes with an EXCELLENT dust collection adapter that you can plug right into your shop vac or collection system. Do not be dismayed, gentle woodworker by the meanderings of those who know not how to read the manual, shaping bliss awaits you with this magnificent German engineered marvel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Router
Superb Router! I have mine in a router table. It handles everything extremely well - from the smallest bit to the largest panel cutter. It is relatively quiet, and never bogs down with the electronic speed control. Soft start is excellent, although I don't use mine out of the table much. The depth settings are easily accomplished, repeatable, and accurate. The speed control is a bit of a stretch under the table, but otherwise I can find no fault with this router. It is one of the best tools in my shop. If you want a powerful router with finess, that does just about everything, this is it. A quality 5-star tool in all respects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent router
Three years ago I had an impromptu manicure on one finger from a router, and since then I've been more than a bit reluctant to go near another router.

I've been feeling braver recently, and after considerable research I purchased the Bosch 1619 along with a Veritas router table. Virtually all of the 3HP+ routers have more than enough power to do any work so the decision criteria had to be based on something other than sheer power. Important to me was ease of bit changes, runout and quiet(least noise).

I haven't been disappointed, making raised panels in oak and walnut is easy-peasy with the Bosch 1619-Veritas combo.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great workhorse
I upgraded to this machine after burning out two on/off switches on my Bosch 1617EVS router.

For the most part, this 1619 resides under a router table. With the extended handle that comes standard with the router, under table adjustments are quick. Roll the large diamer handle between your hands, and the router can be moved up or down about 2 inches in 15 seconds.

I've made about 40 raised panel doors with this router so far, and I really like the power it has. My panel raising bit is 2.5 inches in diameter. I remove about 5/16 in my first pass, and then take off 1/16 to get a nice clean surface. Taking 5/16 in one pass with this large bit does not bog this machine down.

The on/off switch is built into the handle which makes for convenient free-hand operation. The switch is difficult to reach when the machine is mounted under the table, but an auxillary switch on the router table solves that problem.

I also like the built in lock on the spindle. Bits can be changed with only one wrench. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Bosch's Brute Tough line of cordless drill/drivers are designed and built from the inside out to offer the most power and durability possible. At the heart of this drill is a Bosch-built unibody power train that contains the motor, gearbox, and clutch in one contiguous unit for durability and the best alignment possible. The two-speed gearbox has large all-metal gears for strength, and offers a whopping 500 inch-pounds of torque in high-torque mode and up to 1,300 rpm in high-speed mode. The 18-volt motor has built-in overload protection and externally replaceable brushes to help extend its life. The drill also has a steel-reinforced collar to protect it in the event that it's dropped on the chuck. While we don't recommend dropping your tools off one-story buildings, Bosch claims this one can stand the abuse and keep working. The final layer of protection for the drill is its flexible ABS/Nylon-blend Duracell housing that protects the insides without cracking or shattering on impact. The drill also features a a strong reliable grip and a 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck with carbide teeth for one-handed bit changes. This model comes with two batteries, a one-hour charger, a bit holder, a snap hook, and a carrying case. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best 18V drills on the market--TOUGH!
Currently, I have in my arsenal of cordless drills two 14.4v Makita's, an 18V DeWalt, and this Bosch 'Brute' 18V. I also use (and heartily recommend) cordless impact drivers, but that's the subject of another review. Suffice to say, when one simply opts for one or two drills daily; I go for either the Makita 14.4v (if I've got a ton of things to drill and want the reduced weight) or for all around use, the Bosch. I don't think any manufacturer is offering what Bosch brings to the table on this drill. Notable items (from a professional contractor's perspective) are:

>Unbelievable run time from the batteries. Bosch really pegged it on these batteries. 2.4 amp hours, one of the largest in their class. Only Panasonic has longer amp hours, but have you tried to get parts/service on a Panasonic?

>Thoughtful, well-engineered ergonomics. Bosch is the ONLY manufacturer I know of that includes a clip (similar to a carabiner) on the back of the drill that allows you to clip into a belt hook. Other drills, notably drywall guns have these in their corded models, but only Bosch is including it in their general cordless line. Also, the drill has a very, VERY nice rubber grip set. Unlike DeWalt's, which is a harder rubber (or Makita that doesn't include it for some reason), Bosch's rubber is 'tacky' and gives a good impression that you won't lose your grip. Nice touch: They even apply this 'tacky' rubber to the trigger; that's sweet.

>Warranty. Bosch sure understands the pros needs here. 3 year on the drill; you can elect in those times to either send it in for service if it needs it, and they'll guarantee a 5 day turn-around, or you can swap it for another one. The battery guarantee is, I think, industry leading. For 12 months they'll swap it out, for the next 6 months they'll let you have a battery at 50% discount. Nice touches.

>Case. I guess I'm going to have to face that we're not going to get metal cases from anybody, anymore, but Bosch has one of the best plastic ones I've seen. Ample room for two batteries, the drill, the charger, etc. it also includes a smaller, separate storage case for loose items, and has an area of 'rows' that allow insertion of drivers and accessories (very similar to what Dremel offers in their small cases). Get this: real metal latches, too!

>Torque. Good golly, Miss Molly. This drill is on the cusp of offering impact driver spec's!!!! 500 inch pounds of torque; my old DeWalt 18V was 350; this thing is aptly named 'Brute'! Want a real seat-of-the-pants description of the torque? Put this drill in one hand and pull the trigger; you can feel it move sideways, due to the torque. Not badly, not scary, not unsafe by any stretch. All drills to it to some extent, but the big Bosch is NOTICEABLE in your hands. Very torquey, very strong.

>Impact resistance. I saved the best for last, especially if you're a pro. This Bosch offers UNBELIEVABLE protection from common falls. In fact, Bosch regularly demonstrates the tool falling from 40-45 feet at home stores; I caught one in Salisbury, NC and was blown away. You can even check out Bosch's website (www.boschtools.com) and see an actual movie of it being dropped. I have yet to see ANY other manufacturer have that type faith in their product. Drops happen, it's a fact of life. Nice to see a manufacturer designing tool integrity into the product and not keeping their fingers crossed that it might not happen. Overall, this single feature to me is worth the price of admission to professional-grade Bosch tools.

Cons: With all of that glowing prose, you might think I'm a Bosch rep. I'm not. The drill, in my opinion, DOES have two drawbacks, though they're slight. First of all, it isn't small nor lightweight. You will know you're carring around a big, powerful piece of equipment. Second: Bosch, for some engineering reason I'm sure, keeps the top speed of this drill to 1,300 rpms. That is, overall, a good, generic speed. But occasionally, I DO want an ability to spike up to around 1,700 (or faster). My five year old DeWalt 18V is just SO much faster. This is probably more of a personal opinion that job-site necessity, but I do try to uncover any of the nuances of a tool in my reviews, so I had to bring it to the forefront.

VERY, VERY Highly recommended. One of the best tools I use daily. Will withstand a tremendous amount of abuse and it's got a superlative warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars unbeatable drill
I am a licensed home improvement contractor in business for over 15 years. I buy a new cordless drill about every year. I have owned Makita, Porter-Cable, Milwaukee, and DeWalt from 12 volt to 19.2 volt. This Bosch drill far surpasses any in the same 18v category. This drill has 500 in lbs of torque, much more than any in this group. I have dropped this drill 8' to concrete and it still works fine. RPM's don't concern me as much as torque. I did not buy this drill from Amazon due to the fact it was not available about 6 mos. ago when I bought this. The price is about $60.00 less than the DeWalt 18v and I think the DeWalt is highly over rated in the drill category. Milwaukee is my second choice. Battery costs are not a concern to me because I can not justify buying two new batteries in a year. Just replace the drill and sell the old one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not brute tough, not even wife tough!!
I have owned this drill for less than a year in a home use setting. My wife was using it to hang pictures in a plaster wall when it "stripped out", i. e. the motor was turning but not the chuck. I purchased this drill because it sounded like the components were not likely to fail in a light duty application. Oh well...

5-0 out of 5 stars Best cordless drill on the market...
The very first thing I did with my new 18v Bosch drill was to drop it 6' onto a concrete floor. Didn't seem to affect it. Review:

1. The chuck is an engineering marvel -- has the be THE best designed drill chuck on the planet. You can remove and insert a bit, and tighten it, in practically no time at all - with only one hand on the chuck. I.e., hold the tool with your left hand (or left foot!) and unscrew the chuck with your right hand (about ½ turn is all it takes). Insert the new bit and tighten the chuck. (You can actually perform this operation with just one hand; just laying the drill on a flat surface or holding it between your legs - in fact, this may be the only drill that could be used by a one-armed person.) Many keyless drills have dual-ring chucks, the ones that require two hands to work. When the bit slips, I find those chuck designs to be nearly impossible to get REALLY tight. Tight is no problem for this tool. I also own a DeWalt ½" electric drill that requires you to hold a button down to tighten/loosen the chuck. That works OK, but on this Bosch drill, the drive shaft locks when the motor is off, so that button isn't necessary. It really is ingenious.

2. Massive torque. If you're used to a 14.4v drill or even other 18v models, keep your eye on screws you're driving. This beast keeps driving until I release the trigger. I've also snapped a couple of screws due to the high torque this tool has, when the clutch setting was on maximum torque.

3. Speed. Low speed is fine, and high speed (1300 rpm) is OK most of the time - but, occasionally, I'd like it to be a tad faster. One of the ways Bosch gets all that torque is through lower RPMs. Besides, for the types of large hole cuts and other things owners would be doing with a tool this powerful, the 1300 rpm maximum does make sense. The trigger's control of speed is flawless.

4. Battery run-time. These batteries last an incredibly long time before needing a recharge.

5. Balance, comfort, and other ergonomics are perfect, at least for me (I have big hands). Very comfortable handle - no sharp places. It's not uncommon for me to dislike tools because of ill-conceived handles, triggers that pinch your finger, sharp corners, too small, etc. This tool feels just right in my hand. It also comes with a quick-detach hook for attaching a strap or hook - nice touch.

6. Weight. Other than price, the only downside to this tool is, it is heavier and slightly larger than 12v or 14.4v drills - i.e., it's a little too heavy for my wife to use comfortably. (Of course, it's much more powerful, holds ½" bits, battery run-time is better, and it has that ingenious chuck.) In any case, I usually keep two cordless drills handy on jobs: this one, and a lighter/smaller (12v or 14.4v) drill for more delicate/small-hole drilling, or when working overhead extensively. The other reason for having two tools, in spite of how incredibly easy it is to change bits on the Bosch, is, to avoid having to change bits/drills as often.

7. The gears are made of steel. That's important to me because my Porter Cable 14.4v drill stripped it's weak nylon gears after a couple of years, long before the batteries wore out. P/C doesn't sell just that $3 gear of course - you had to buy an enter "gear box", as they call it. $60. Heck with that. No more P/C plastic-geared drills for me.

8. Nice plastic case, with a mini-case for bits. Everything fits, and it even has decent metal clasps. Well done.

9. Has the best warranty I've seen for such tools (and the battery), but somehow I doubt if I'll ever need it.

In summary, if it's not too heavy for you to use comfortably, you'll not find a better cordless drill.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brute Tough!
Been looking to get a cordless drill for a couple years, and was tired of the same ol' yellow brand everybody else has. Got the Bosch Brute after seeing an ad about it being dropped from 40' off scaffolding and then drilling a hole in concrete, etc. The Bosch Brute is an excellent choice. No other drills I've seen can change the brushes externally. For an 18 volt, it feels great to hold, and balances beautifully. I won't knock DeWalt, but if you want to try something else, and want a little more, get the Bosch Brute Tough 18volt! ... Read more

Bosch’s two-speed gearbox lets you match speed and torque to the job at hand. A dual-function control lets you switch quickly and easily from rotation to hammer action, and a mounted depth gauge is a nice touch other makers ought to adopt. The auxiliary handle attaches easily and rotates a full 360 degrees to let you work at any angle. The keyed chuck accepts up to ½-inch bits, and at 5 pounds, it’s far from the heaviest drill of its caliber. The soft grip and comfortable trigger with lock-on button further relieve hand strain. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good drill, but ..
This is a very capable, high-quality tool. I bought it to bore through brick/wood and it did very well.

However, the case is cheap. It looks like you can close/open it 4-5 times and it will be done. And, the plastic depth guage broke right away. If you don't care about the depth gauge or case, then this is very good value for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for DIYer
This is perfect for the DIYer. Concrete isn't a problem and drilling through block is no match. I've had to drill through wet wood that bound my "yellow" drill, but it couldn't stop the Bosch. Like everything else Bosch makes, this is one excellent piece of equipment that will last a long, long time. I would have liked a metal measure stick so that it would last as long as the drill, but that's minor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable Drill
Bosch has produced yet another powerhouse, this thing wont give up no matter how much use and abuse you put to it. Always reliable and hard working--build to last!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard working drill
this is my second Bosch Hammer drill. I use it in landscape construction & it is subjected to all kinds of abuse. After 6 years of drilling through every kind of material, in wet & dusty conditions it finally bit the dust. For the money, weight & price I highly reccommend this drill.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Drill!!!
Bosch has done it again, great product at a reasonable price. I've used mine to install furring strips on both sides of a 200 ft. long block building, works great. I purchased this Bosch grinder through Amazon.com to tuck point brick work. Received the tool in one week with free shipping. The paddle switch is a safe feature. When you release the paddle it stops. I found it to be very powerfull and it has absolutely no hesitation. Pure power!
I installed a dry diamond blade for cutting brick - cut like butter with a hot knife. Installed a 4 1/2" diamond tuck point wheel and removed a mortar joint 35" wide in seconds. Highly recommend this tool if your looking for a good grinder. Well worth the money for the safety & power it delivers.

I own two other 4 1/2 inch grinders besides this one. My Made in China $24 grinder that I was using with a cupped wire brush finally bit the dust. I went looking for Quality this time around and wanted to purchase Made in USA. But this Bosch won out, over a Dewalt, because it was the only one that was a "true" all ball / needle bearing construction. It has lots of power and the paddle switch saved my bacon when on a trial run using a metal cutting disk, the disk caught and shattered (I AWAYS wear safety glasses and gloves when grinding). On my other grinders with a thumb switch... that 1/2 second to find the switch & flip it off... would have been too long. Draw backs, the grinder seems to have more vibration and noise than my 8 year old, Made in Japan Ryobi, not to be confused with the new Ryobi, Made in China! Bill G.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Little Grinder
Kinda hard to get worked up about an angle grinder--their loud, dirty and smelly. Based on my success with other Bosch tools I purchased this one. It works very well. Appears durable, has a quality metal shield, simple wheel changes, easy on/off and lock switch. I like it. Probably couldn't go wrong with Yellow, Gray, Red or Green versions, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tough and Versatile
This is a fine quality tool, it works flawlessly. I originally bought this tool to cut ceramic tile (which worked great), but I found so many other uses for it such as grinding fiberglass on my brother's boat, cut out steel window frames, and to remove glue and wood residue on concrete before screwing in a subfloor. The grinder is small enough to fit in most tight places and light enough to hold over head for long periods of time. This is one of my most heavily used power tools and it's still going strong! I have to say Bosch makes the best tools that last forever. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Bosch recently introduced routers that they claim have the highest power-to-weight ratio in the industry. We believe them. The 1617EVSB is one member of Bosch's new Magnesium line. This variable-speed router features a stout, 2-1/4-horsepower motor coupled with an all-magnesium base and housing. The result is a well-balanced and smooth-operating machine that offers fast results in demanding applications. We love the nicely finished hard-maple handles that make this router feel like a fine-woodworking tool. Something Bosch engineers are proudest of is what they call the "precision centering system," which makes the router bit track at true center. It's an important feature for multiple-pass applications, like jig cutting, and fine woodworkers will particularly appreciate it.

Ease of height adjustment is a way of measuring quality in routers, and Bosch has come up with a system that works as well as any we've tested. A large flip lever releases the motor for adjusting. Rather than twisting as the height changes, the motor raises and drops in a straight path. The result is a simple and smooth-working course adjust that couples with an efficient microadjust to make fine-tuning the depth of cut easy and accurate. Another feature we like is the reversible motor, which lets the user place the switch and cord on either side. It's good for lefties, and for those of us who get annoyed when the cord always seems to be in the way. The collet is self-releasing, which means there's no need to tap the spindle to change bits, and the collet depth is 13/16 inch, a few 16ths deeper than that of DeWalt or Porter-Cable--one more weapon in the Bosch battle to for a truly centered bit. --Mark McDonald ... 3-0 out of 5 stars It has its problems
I hate to be a party pooper to all the folks who love their 1617EVS router, but I've owned this machine for three years, and it has its problems.

When using this under a table, the height adjustment mechanism becomes clogged with dust and makes it difficult to adjust the height.

When using this freehand, the on/off switch is a little awkward to use, and the smooth wooden handles can get a little slippery when working in the summer months with sweaty hands. For free hand operation, I like my lowley Craftsman better. The handles are better suited for getting a firm grip, and the switch is built into the handle. For doing freehand work, I would recommend getting a D-handle router such as the Bosch 1618.

I've made a number of raised panel doors with the 1617. The bit I use is 2.5 inches in diameter. This router will work, but you will have to take 3 or 4 passes to get the profile to 3/8 deep. In the three years I've had this, I had to replace the on/off switch twice. Probably working the router too hard with the panel raising bit.

For using the router under the table, I would definately recommend the Bosch 1619EVS (see my review).

5-0 out of 5 stars This Router made me a Bosch Believer
I had never bought a Bosch product before and needing to replace my cheaper craftsman ...router I did a lot of research. I went to a wood worker show and let PC, Bosch, Makita, Milwaukee etc tell me about their routers. After the reviews and the sales pitches I bought the 1617EVS. I love the variable speed, not only for the softstart, power and speed adjustment for various size bits but also it adjusts the power to maintain a constant speed when the bit is under load. The contant speed mean a lot when routing Hardwoods - there is no burning in the softer areas due to bit speedup. It is extrodinarialy light weight and easy to handle. The bits are self extracting (no stuck bits) and they are dead center. Adjusting the height and depth is quick and the fine adjustment is in the thousands of an inch. The only thing I wish they had is a locking hub so you didn't have to fiddle with 2 wrenches to change bits. It also came with a quick release attachment for various size router ring inserts. Finally when mounted in a table you can drop the motor out of the mount with a simple quick release lever (no wrenches here) and change the bit and then replace the motor with very little effort.

For a change I feel like I made the best decision. Now I'm planning on purchasing the Plunge attachment that should be available soon. No buyer regret here!!! I'll be buying other Bosch tools if they are of the same quality as this. I already own there 5" orbital sander.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best router I've ever used
After using a variety of Craftsman and makita routers, I settled on the 1617EVS to use in a Bosch RA1180 table. I've used it for almost a year now and I am pleased. It is smooth, powerful, and well made. I have used it for raised panel doors, edges, grooves and dadoes. I have used it freehand with a dovetail jig. It has done everything I have asked of it without fail. I do have one complaint about the round base. There is no flat to run against a straight edge guide. Dust will build up in the adjustment mechanism when used in a router table, but this is a problem with all routers I am aware of. It is a simple matter to remove the motor from the base occasionally to clean it. I have also used the accessory edge guide and the dust collector attachments and they work very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best ROUTER on the market!
I researched routers and bought a few before the Bosch 1617EVS. I mounted the router in a Rockler router table and it is without a doubt the best router in it's class period! I build furniture and needed something to take both hard and soft woods. I have made raised panels without any problems. If you could love a router, I would love this one. Good job Bosch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Smooth performance
It's quiet, smooth, and powerful. I bought this (with the dual base kit) to replace my 20 year old Black and Decker 1.5HP router. The Black and Decker is now permanently dedicated to my dovetail jig. I have used it on oak and cherry. It really goes through the wood smoother and quicker than my old router.

I would have given it 5 stars if it had an above table height adjustment. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not that scary!
Recently, I have to do a tought plumbing job. I was worried if I was going to be able to jack-hammered a 4 inch concrete floor. We went to a tool rental place and got the Bosch Brute Hammer. In the beginning I thought "is going to be a scary kind of job". But I was wrong. In a few hours I was able to complete the whole job. The vibration was not bad after all. It is not a tool that I need on a daily basis, but is was a good help for me that day. Also, the hand truck was great with all the tools orderly in place.

This workhorse wont let you down and will perform like a dream. Watch the video that Amazon provides, it's cool...and informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool-Worth every Penny
If you want to save time, back aches, etc. get this tool. I wish I would have sooner. Highly recommended. It's very dependable

5-0 out of 5 stars dependable and gets the job done.
I have used this tool to demo a flagstone/concrete patio and about 80 feet of sidewalk. I first tried the sledgehammer/prybar route, but that was too slow and tiresome. I got the job done by myself in less than 8 hours with this tool. It is quieter than gas/air powered hammers, but I still wore ear protection. It is easy to operate and not very fatiguing-the most tiring part is picking it up and setting it down. It is heavy, but I could lift it into the trunk of my car by myself. With 2 people lifting it is a breeze and the cart makes transporting it very easy. I ran it hard all day and it never complained- and this was a pretty beat up rental tool. I highly recommend this tool if electricity is available-it is much more convenient than gas and compressed air hammers. Plus it is powerful and durable enough for all but the biggest demolition jobs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended-Worth every Penny!
My company rented this a few times and we can't live without it, so the company bought one and everyone on the site loves it. I have several contractor friends on other sites and they too rave about the Brute hammer. This hammer really is a life saver. When you use this tool it sure cuts down on the time it takes to complete a job. Be sure to get the cart, it sure makes life easier. ... Read more

An exceptionally smooth start gives you a great first impression, and the more you use this sander, the more impressed you’ll be with its eager 3.3 amp motor and Bosch’s Constant Response circuitry, which maintains constant speed under load. It uses hook-and-loop discs, far more durable than the adhesive kind, and the pad-dampening system helps prevent swirl marks. There’s very little vibration in hand, giving you beautiful control. Adding to that is the ergonomic soft-grip front handle, which is easily detachable for maneuvering into tight spaces. The two-finger trigger is comfortable and smooth, and the lock button engages quickly and easily without contorting your hand. Variable speed adjusts at the turn of the thumb wheel, and the motor handles even abrupt changes like a dream. 4-0 out of 5 stars Bad Boy of orbitals
I've had this sander a couple of months now. It's excellent for larger jobs, as you can get both hands on the tool, crank up the power and really get some a$$ behind it when needed, yet still sand more delicate items by slowing the speed down. It's size is both good and bad. On the downside, if you are sanding items which require you to hold the item with one hand and the sander with the other it is somewhat difficult with this sander as it is primarily a two handed tool. Also this sander is larger than palm sanders and cannot get in some smaller areas. I've used it sometimes for several hours at a time and have found it to be comfortable to use. It is adequately powered. The dust collection is better than the other sanders i have, and the big bag fills quickly. My only complaint is that right in the center of the sanding pad is about a 1 inch hole with a small bolt to hold the pad onto the sander. This hole, being so large, makes it impossible to round corners with this sander. Bosch could have improved this easily. (the reason for four instead of five stars) This is a great investment if you do a lot of sanding and need a step above a palm sander, but keep your palm sander handy for rounding corners!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
Great value for the $$$--Can't go wrong with a great company like Bosch!

4-0 out of 5 stars How do I hookup a vacuum?
It's not too noisey and it's a little bit smoother than the other brands I've tried. It looks to be well made and is fairly ergonomic. But if I can't find a vacuum attachment adaptor for it then I'll have to buy a different brand sander that does have one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality, features, ergonomics and smoooooth
Excellent sander. There are a numer that are cheaper, but few that I like as much as this one.I have 5 different brands of various size and style orbitals. This is the one I generally reach for most of the time. The dust collection has minimal value, but to be honest, almost every stand alone dust bag on anything pales compared to connecting it to a vac. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars time to get real here.......................
First of all any btty that last's 8hrs on a charge is great. Reception is not the best but for a jobsite radio its fine. To compare it to Milwaukee is not fair as thiers isnt even a charger. Sound is by far the best of all three.

3-0 out of 5 stars Proven bad reception
I saw the radio in the store and had it in my cart. I thought I should read the reviews prior to purchase and put it back. After reading the reviews I went back to home depot and with the Dewalt on one side and the Milwaukee on the other I performed the reception test. Don't buy the Bosch. I'm a great fan of their tools but the Bosch would not pick up ANY FM stations while the others would tune clearly to 8-10 local and not so local stations.

The Good- The MP3 function puts 11 hours of music on a disk, and with 12vdc and 4 outlets of GFCI It's still a good tool. I may need to take it apart to put an external antenna on it tho'

3-0 out of 5 stars I think I'm pleased...or maybe not...I'm not sure...
I've owned my Power Box for a couple of months now. I read the other reviews and my comments relate to them.

I don't think this radio is too heavy or too big. I would have never thought of that as a possible compaint.

I have been wondering about the FM reception. I get many stations fine, but the PBS station, which is usually the easiest to get, is hard to get on the Power Box. But AM reception seems surprisingly good.

The one thing I really wish this thing had is a headphone jack. I have a small radio transmitter that I use at sites to transmit to my Peltor Alert hearing protection AM/FM headphones (I put them on when I'm using power equipment). I'd really like to be able to transmit whatever I'm listening to or playing to my headphones, but I can't with no jack. But, I'm sure I'm about the only person out there with this complaint.

One thing I have noticed is that once I charge a battery pack, it goes dead within a day or two even if the radio is not on. I really don't understand why this is, but it has happened several times with a fairly new battery pack.

I think the sound is good. But I wouldn't expect amazing sound from a jobsite radio, and I listen mainly to talk programming.

So, in the end, I guess I don't know if I like my Power Box. I wouldn't return it tomorrow for what I paid for it. But I'd sure like to keep that option open.

1-0 out of 5 stars power what??
I purchased this radio from home depot the other day and I have to say I was very disappointed.first off the radio is a tank and seemed to take up valuble space, which wouldn't have been a bad thing if it had been worth it.Second the sterio was not immpressive sounding at all ,weak volumn, terrible bass reponse , and bad reception. All that for just under $180.00 I'm very pleased with my bosch tools, this being the exception! milwaukee sounds 10 times better at under half the price!

2-0 out of 5 stars POWER BOX? Not really.
I got my Bosch Power Box the other day after ordering from amazon.com. I had read the reviews about the radio reception being poor & I figured they were exaggerating, but it's terrible! I can only get 2 FM stations in clearly & everything else is either all static or not much more than that! Its CD player works well & the sound quality is ok but not great. You have to have the power box plugged in even to charge your cell phone. Bought a bosch 24v platinum battery for it ( over $130.00! ) & it only works for about 8 hours before going stone dead. Lastly, the darn thing is heavier than a box of tools! With all that weight behind it & a price tag way bigger than Milwaulkee & Dewalt ( actually, you can buy both of them for the price of the Bosch!!!) you'd think they could make a better performing unit! Why did I keep it? It's the only one with a CD player...THAT'S IT!!!! Don't buy it unless you want a jobsite radio witha built in CD player!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sander!
I've had the opportunity to use a number of 5" and 6" RO sanders over the past few years and this is one I would definately buy again. Smooth, well balanced and fits my hands well. I bought mine with the vac adapter and Bosch's hose. I use it hooked to my Shop-Vac and it works very well. I can't see any dust on my bench around where I am sanding and I don't smell any either. 6" paper is now available at the box stores if you want to go that route (I prefer the Mirka available here). I like the 6" simply because it takes less time to sand an area.

5-0 out of 5 stars A workhorse, solid piece of equipment
This is a solid sander that can cut with any grit you use. I bought this about 2 yrs ago to replace a 5" Bosch random orbital, the extra area saves me quite a bit of time. I have a 50' wooden yacht so this thing gets used and abused and has covered every square inch of the exterior atleast 3 times. I've also used it with finer grits (220) on inside interior and you can slow it down to what you need with the adjustment dial. The bottom hook and loop (velcro) fastener pad is strong and hasn't worn out like my last one. If you have big projects go with this sander, if you have small projects get the 5" bosch since it's theoretically easier to handle...just stick with Bosch, I've owned almost all of the others and they've been sent to davey jones locker.

The only downside I could think of is:

- most of the big home improvement stores don't carry 6" diameter paper (only 5") so you have to order online.

- I wish it came standard with an adapter to fit most shop vacs. I ended up engineering my own which leaves much to be desired. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is where "hammer drills" start
If you are done drilling 3/8" tapcons and need to drill a real hole in concrete you have to put the cordless down. I did a lot of checking before I bought a hammer drill because I wasnt experienced with these drills. I expanded my work to include exterior foundation work. You need a quality hammer drill to do the job right. This Bosch SDS rotary is perfect for drilling those 1" holes in concrete or brick,or chiseling out brick. If you are not going to be drilling 2" holes through your foundation, you dont need any more drill than this.Anything smaller than this is a waste. This Bosch is a work horse and is still easy on the hands.

2-0 out of 5 stars okay for drilling
I am a contractor who uses a rotary hammer a few hours per week. I bought the Bosch 1 1/8 inch sdsplus rotohammer about 3 weeks ago, after a reconditioned and used milwaukee unit stopped hammering (after about three weeks). I was pretty happy, at first.
A few days ago, I checked out some of the reviews on here, and grew concerned about the chuck loosening up. Sure enough, when I checked it out, it moved about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch with a 12 inch bit. I took it back.
B.T.W., I contacted Bosch, and they basically said that SDS-Plus hammers aren't designed for much chipping. I do chip alot, so I am probably going to take thier suggestion and get an SDS-Max hammer. I may still get a Bosch.
If you are planning on buying this hammer for drilling, it is probably a great tool (and the case is very well organized). If you plan on doing any chipping besides some very light chipping, I suggest getting an SDS-Max or spline drive. You may be disappointed in any SDS-Plus hammer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big Bang For The Price
This drill has seen 100's of holes, & keeps going strong. Would highly recomend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for chipping brick
I just completed stripping approximately 5,000 brick off my house (we're rebricking). I looked into renting a tool for this job and I realized I could justify the purchase of my own tool for the amount of work I needed to do. As I wanted a tool that could be used for more than chipping/stripping brick, I began to lean toward the "combination" rotary hammers. I had a tough time finding any reference to their use for stripping brick. After much research, I settled on the Bosch 112326VS mainly because the SDS+ tools are in the middle of the size range (SDS MAX are larger) plus the price was acceptable. I chose the 11236VS over the 11224VSR (7/8" SDS+) simply because I hoped that the slightly bigger tool would be a benefit in chipping. So I'm here to state that I had very good success with the Bosch 11236VS for this purpose. Incidently, I used the 1-1/2" chisel (also by Bosch) which still has plenty of life left.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality again
Poor quality again, January 25, 2004
Reviewer: Handyman, Jack of All Trades from Hendersonville, NC US
This model of the Bosch line of rotary hammers is a failure. Less than a days work and the chuck is so sloppy as to make the tool impractical to use. I am returning it to my home improvement center. It has nice features but just is not durable in chipping mode. The tool was used to chip out 9 cinder block house vents. After the fourth vent the chuck became extremely sloppy. I hope Bosch can fix this problem. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Bosch invented the jig saw, and, with its top-handle models, it's getting close to perfecting it. The 1587AVSK has a nicely shaped handle, tapered where other saws are not, and a nice rubber grip that lets users (of all hand sizes) steer the tool firmly in hand. (Some toolmakers ignore ergonomics, but not Bosch--and we appreciate it.) The safety mechanism works well with the trigger, and the cut is super smooth. We like the variable-speed dial, the light weight, and the foot plate's plastic cover, which ensures that surfaces won't get scratched as they can by saws with metal plates. The blade-change system--if a little tricky at first--works great. No question about it, this jig saw keeps up Bosch's reputation as one of the prime movers in the power tool industry. --Michael Shilling ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST. PERIOD.
Just how good is this machine? So good that when Dewalt created their new top-of-the-line jig saw they copied the Bosch nut for nut, bolt for bolt.

Bosch invented the jig saw so they have some experience at getting it right. But the main thing to consider is what is important when buying one.

The Bosch 1587 has several features that make it the top dog.

First, it has heft. This heavy, well-balanced tool rides smoothly on surfaces and combined with an efficient counter-balance mechanism provides smooth cuts and a minimum of vibration. The top handle design further adds to the feeling of lightness and ease of operation despite the tools weight and power.

Secondly, it has different blade stroke patterns in orbital and in-line configurations and a chip blower that can be turned off and on. This, combined with variable speeds, provide for a saw that will take on any challenge.

Another feature that will spoil you in a hurry is the tool-less blade change. There is nothing more frustrating than trying hold a blade and fidling with a screwdriver! With the Bosch, just stick the blade in, turn the top cap three times untill it clicks and you're done. Hint: I leave the cap in the unscrewed position after use. That way when I'm ready to use it again it's near-instantaneous to get going.

This is a professional tool. It's the one I use in my finish carpentry business and it's the one my constituants use in their work. To spend more on a jig saw would be a waste of money. To spend less would be a larger one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smooth, Quiet and Strong!
The Bosch 1587 Jigsaw is very powerful, though other saws may boast slightly higher AMP ratings the Bosch may still have more usable power due to the efficiency of it's motor. The saw is smooth, quiet and most importantly absent of the vibration that has often beleaguered my attempts at fine work. Most other saws are plagued by this vibration and that really makes it difficult to track a strait line or to carefully cut out a finely traced scroll. Not with the Bosch, it's as smooth as can be and a pleasure to use. You may find yourself looking for excuses to break it out!!

The controls are ergonomically well thought out and are also very smooth in operation. The trigger switch on the 1587 provides variable speed for slow starts and also provides a speed limiter dial which enables the user to set the maximum blade speed when the trigger is fully engaged. The Barrel Grip version (1584) though very comfortable for scrolling does not include a variable speed trigger. Rather it has a toggle switch with a speed dial. This makes slow starts rather awkward to achieve and is the main reason I chose the top handle 1587.

The tool-less blade change takes a few minutes to master but once mastered it is quick and provides a very positive hold on the blade. I will admit that the blade change feature on the Milwaukee (also a nice saw, the only other to consider)is even easier but we cant have everything. The saw uses T-Shank blades and the Bosch Progressor version of these blades are second to none; use them!!

The saw includes adjustable "orbital action", a feature that allows the blade to orbit in a back/forth and up/down motion simultaneously, allowing the user to make faster more aggressive cuts. Orbital action greatly reduces the cutting time and makes scrolling less labor some. The draw back is that the cut is slightly less fine. Again the amount of Orbital action is adjustable and it can be deactivated all together depending on the material to be cut or your particular preference.

With all this said I struggle to think for negatives, but there are a few petty ones. Here they are: The blower though offering three settings could be more powerful at slower speeds. The shoe angle adjustment is not tool-less but rather it requires the use of a hex wrench. This wrench is included and fitted to the power cord... No biggie

On my saw it seems that the blade tends to cut very slightly off on deep material. I have made completely sure that I place the blade in correctly but it doesn't help. However, this issue has never been a problem in any of the work that I have done to date and it could be just my particular saw.

Well there isn't really much more to say...This is a very fine jigsaw and probably the best one available; the Milwaukee being the only real competition that I have seen to date. So don't be afraid of this purchase. You will certainly not regret it!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Won't stand the test of time
I've had this jigsaw about a year now. Perhaps went through 20 blade changes. One would expect a thousand more before this tool goes to lala land, but that's not the case. The tool is now rendered useless because the mechanism for blade changes has gone caput. I am past warranty as far as bringing it back for replacement or refund. The other choice is repair which isn't worth the hassle from my perspective. In my opinion this tool will not stand the test of time. This is a twenty dollar tool if the blade mechanism is flawed. {{I suspect it is}}.

I don't want to disparage anyone from buying Bosch, just this particular model. The tool wants to do business - but for cripes sakes - It's gotta hold a blade to work. I am not a happy camper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Satisified
I bought the Bosch Jig Saw a few months ago and I have been nothing but satisified with the tool. It cuts thought anything with ease (including ash wood floors) and can be used for many applications. I use my tools constantly and buying the best has made all the difference. I would highly reccomend this to anyone looking for a jig saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cuts Plywood like butter
Every Bosch tool I buy seems like a substantial upgrade, and this jigsaw is no exception. I bought it a year ago to replace a cordless model (not Bosch), and what a difference! Cuts straight, fast, and blows the dust away so you can follow your mark easily. I mostly use it to cut plywood, but I cut two large oval-shaped blanks out of 2x mahogany right after I got it and no problem. I didn't even know I could cut an oval!

I just bought the ripping guide for $15 and now I can do a lot more....rip small pieces of trim from moldings, cut down larger boards with minimal set up time, etc. I'd say the guide is well worth the extra dough.

I see they have a newer model out, and I'm sure it's excellent, but I'm still so happy with this one that I can't see upgrading at this time.....but maybe next Christmas....

Definately a 5 star tool. Bosch has done it again. Shocker. ... Read more

It's a small thing, we know, but our favorite feature on this gorgeous saw is the handle. That's because everybody has his or her own comfort zone: Some like a vertical grip, some a horizontal. Left-handers usually prefer a handle that tilts 45 degrees to the left. It's all here. The four-position handle features two safety lock buttons—one on each end of the handle, for right- and left-handers-—and one must be pressed to allow the saw to power up. At this saw's heart is a beefy, Bosch-quality 15-amp motor with a no-load max of 3,800 rpm and peak 3 HP. Around it, you'll find one plus after another. We like the super-wide miter range of 52 degrees both left and right, because as you know, sometimes the world isn't perfect. It bevels from 0 to 47 degrees left and 0 to 46 right, with the range selector and lock knobs right up front where they should be. The 10 miter detents can all be overridden easily for micro-fine adjustments. The sliding extensions are handy, and we like the integrated workpiece clamps and especially the flip-up crown stops. Another important feature to us is that the scales are clear and legible, even for those of us who won't admit we need bifocals. One more nice touch is the option of replacing the kerf insert for different blades, creating a zero-clearance insert that will minimize tearout. We know Bosch to be fastidious about calibrating their tools before they leave the factory, but to be safe, you'll want to take the time to perform all the checks in the owner's manual. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... This really is a brute: 18 hungry volts of power behind a steel-reinforced collar, a rugged 1/2-inch chuck with 17 clutch settings and Bosch’s amazing DuraShield body housing. It’s a contractor’s dream drill, tested by Bosch to withstand a 46-foot drop onto concrete and more realistic real-world bumps and bruises. The steel-braced collar will take a drop right on the nose and still protect the chuck. It performs like the Bosch that it is, with tremendous power and ease of use. We expect this tool will last longer than most drills simply because Bosch made it so easy to replace the brushes-—external access means you can get this little maintenance job done in two minutes. Nice ergonomic touches include a wide trigger and a shock-absorbing rubber grip. For some fun, visit Bosch’s website and watch the video of a Bosch DuraShield drill like this one taking the 46-foot plunge—and keep on drilling. It’s no hype.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hang On!!
I own a remodeling company and I bought this drill about 2 months ago, I use it almost everyday; I can attest that this drill can take some serious abuse without even a whimper!! (It has now fallen of 2 roofs onto the cement below; any other drill would have been severely damaged!!) The 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck and 17 clutch settings are well engineered; this drill has tremendous power and is very easy to operate. I like the fact that it is so easy to replace the brushes (2nd set already!!) It has nice ergonomic touches including a wide trigger and shock-absorbing rubber grips that make this drill an extension of your arm. It does come with an attachable side handle to help handle all of its torque. This drill was not made for drilling a lot of large holes in concrete but is up for the task occasionally (3/8" is about max for concrete, 1/2" in brick) and works excellent for smaller sizes. This drill was made for a contractor who uses and abuses tools everyday and not the average DIY weekend warrior homeowner. I highly recommend this drill for any contractor in need of a new drill.

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality
Do yourself a favor, invest in this hammer, you will be glad you did! It is designed and built to last. The BEST of the BEST! Performance is outstanding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very effective when used correctly
I purchased this unit after test-renting a Bosch 11316 Demolition Hammer in order to dig 25 very deep tree holes in the hard, California clay soil where I live. The 11316 was massive overkill for the job (I used it on 30-40% power all day), and often sunk deep into the cement-hard soil just under its own weight!

The 11241 is a fantastic tool - it digs with a clay spade at a moderate pace, dramatically reducing workload for terraforming (moving a lot of dirt, as I did with a retaining wall), and for trenching, digging, and moderate-duty demolition.

BEWARE - it takes 3-4 hours of use before it really *works*. Out of the box, brand new, you will swear this thing is broken. Read the manual - it vaguely refers to a 5 hour break-in period. Trust me, not much happens for the first 2 hours - I recommend finding drilling applications.

So far, I've trenched, drilled holes in concrete, done terraforming, and some serious digging for tree planting and
other gardening tasks. The weight of this unit is ideal for the application, and the power is just sufficient. (5 stars would be reserved for a bit more power - it takes a while to get through some applications where old roots are in the way - the 11316 cut through them like a hot knife through butter).

I've yet to try this unit on concrete - I suspect it will do a credible job, but not great, due to its moderate power output.

I have the clay spade, acaling chisel, and two bull points of different lengths. All work very well.

One superior aspect of this unit over the 11316 monster - the vibration isolation is really nice in the handle. My wrists can tolerate 2-3 hours/day of this work, where 2 hours of the 11316 caused me a week or so of serious aching.

The two-speed gearbox has large all-metal gears for strength, and offers a whopping 450 inch-pounds of torque in high-torque mode and up to 1,300 rpm in high-speed mode. The 14.4-volt motor has built-in overload protection and externally replaceable brushes to help extend its life. The drill also features a a strong, reliable grip and a 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck with carbide teeth for one-handed bit changes. This model comes with two batteries, a one-hour charger, a bit holder, a snap hook, and a carrying case. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Tough, but lousy battery life.
I love Bosch tools and highly recommend their table saw, saber saw and routers. It was because of their durability and precision that I bought the Bosch 14.4 when my 12 volt Porter Cable finally conked out. While the Bosch performed admirably under very heavy loads, its battery life was very disappointing. Under heavy use of drilling and driving screws, I'd get an hour or so before having to switch batteries. My buddy with the Panasonic runs all day without switching a battery (even after dropping it off a four story roof - twice). The toughness and convenient carrying case are great aspects of the Bosch, it never smoked or conked out, but I recommend the Panasonic or Porter Cable as better tools.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cordless Drill
After using a Dewalt 18V XRP drill kit for a few projects, I was unsatisfied with the overall quality and performance. So I began my search for another quality cordless drill and ended up with this Bosch. I'm completely satisfied with the quality - the shell is very rugged, the chuck is 1st class, adjustable clutch, tons of torque (!), and battery is very securely attached (a problem with the Dewalt).

This is a first rate drill. I'm completely satisfied and would purchase it again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real Pleasure!!!!
All I have to say is that this drill is simply awesome!! I've used many other drills before, but this one takes the cake! you can feel the durability by just holding it. The fun really starts when you use it...tons of torque for any job! you can't go wrong, good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Drill!!!
I considered the Dewalt comparable drill, but it was a little more expensive. However I'am glad I bought the Bosch, very rugged and durable, nice torque and power, the case is very well laid out with a little case for extra bits, nice metal buckles and oh yea, caps for the battery packs!!If you are considering any other drill look no further buy the Bosch. One downside, the drill is a little heavy, but that just adds to its ruggedness....Happy drilling!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Drill
Long lasting batteries. Great trigger control. Nice clutch with racheting feature. Overall a very solid dependable tool. A great bargain and head and tails above the comparable DeWalt. I would only buy this tool or a Milwaukee. ... Read more
