5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing clamps!
As of writing, I have only had my Quik-Grip clamps a single day, but I already absolutely love them! They are easily set up with only one hand, which is really convenient when clamping down a homemade fence for a router table, or anthing else that reguires the other hand to hold your workpiece down.
This package of clamps is a very good deal too. Ratcheting hand clamps are usually very expensive (the price of the two largest clamps from a home center is about the same as this entire package!). The description says you get 2 2" smaller clamps as well. I got 4! I don't know if this an error, but I'm not complaining!
Ratchet clamps, although expensive, are totally amazing. They are especially handy for sanding and routing, where vibration can undo screws. This package is a great deal and I haven't ruled out buying another set. These things are total time savers.
(And, if you ever get really bored, you can race them! We actually used to do that in my shop class!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Addictive!
Once you start using these Quick-Grip clamps you will think that all other clamps are obsolete. They supply all the power you can possibly need and are so much quicker on and off that repositioning them is a snap. They take a lot of the "stress" out of having to race to get your glue-up clamped. As soon as I finished using them the 1st time I ordered more. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Just plain junk
I purchased a set of these chisels and I wish I hadn't. They are very poorly machined and the metal is very weak. I am seriously thinking about taking all six chisels and throwing them in the trash, box and all. They are no where close to being flat on the back. And to be honest there just not worth the two hours or better you will take to lap the back. Anyone thinking of bying these chisels should just save there money. I here Lie-Neilsen is comeing out with high quailty set. For all of those people(myself included) a word of advice, don't by cheap tools save your money and by somthing that will last. It will be cheaper in the long run!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I agree with the reviewer below that these chisels are a good value. Using the Veritas sharpening jig and flat Arkansas stones, I have been able to get a good edge on these chisels. Like most chisels, they will require sharpening out of the box to get a truly sharp edge. These are not high quality Japanese woodworking chisels (which cost about three times as much), but properly sharpened they will be serviceable for all but the most demanding woodworkers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Set - But skip the box
These are my first set of chisels - I don't know how much I'll use them, so I want to keep the purchase cost reasonable. They arrived with an o.k. edge, but needed a little cleanup. The handles feel really solid. As for the box, well I really like to keep my stuff organized, so I like to get promo sets that come with cases - but this box was pretty [...]...The clasp on the front doesn't latch and the inside is just a flimsy molded polystyrene insert(same plastic they make disposable cold drink cups out of). I recommend getting one of the other sets without the box and either hanging them on pegboard or putting them in a toolbox drawer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap chisels
Don't be fooled. This chisels are not worth their price. I was given a set two years ago. I never used them until three months ago. I was using my old reliable set. I took this chisels out of the box and went to hone them. Come to find out, the still is severly deformed. The facets are totally out of place and you can not get a smooth bevel on them---There's NO WAY you could double bevel these. I reground them myself to as square as possible. No sooner than I did that, the half inch chisel started breaking the corners! I did not blue the steel as I use a Tormek sharpening system. Plus, I was using them without a mallet---by hand! Cheap metal, cheap craftsmanship, poor quality!

4-0 out of 5 stars Husband's Gift
I bought this as a gift. He thinks they are of good quality. ... Read more

Strait-Line's claim that this is "the most capable laser level ever built" is an invitation to skepticism, but folks, after spending a little time with this model, we think it's true. Yes, there are other laser levels on the market that project both a horizontal and vertical line, but we've never seen one that lets you access the exact point of intersection—-this one does, so every job gets off to a flawless start. And flawless it is, because the Intersect self-levels within 8 degrees on a vertical surface. All you have to do is attach it to the wall (more on that in a minute) as close to vertical as you can, and Strait-Line's amazing technology projects perfectly level and plumb lines with zero guesswork for a 30 foot total horizontally and 20 feet vertically. (We'll do the math for you: That's a 600 square foot work area.) Mind you, the auto-leveling feature works on a vertical surface only, but use on the floor doesn't require leveling anyway. Another feature to love is that it leaves no marks on the wall; there are no pins to push in. Instead, Strait-Line has incorporated 3M's revolutionary Command Adhesive. Just peel, stick and remove the whole shebang when you're done, without a trace. Accuracy is outstanding, to within +/- 1/8 inch at 15 feet. This is a great tool for just about anybody, from contractors and cabinet installers to art galleries, builders, home decorators and of course, the intrepid do-it-yourselfer.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... • Mounts to any surface with no damage through the use of 3M Command Strips

  • 600 sq. ft. work area for the most demanding projects

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a stud finder that works!
I have tried 3 devices like this over the years. All of them were a pain to "calibrate" and did not work well.I bought this out of frustration a week ago when trying to find a stud with a Stanley unit which was very unrepeatable. This Straitline worked easily and very accurately first try. Also the marker is great!Highly recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely useless
I tried using this product on my drywall to find studs so I can hang a mirror, but either this machine is defective or completely unreliable. It will find a stud in a place, but after recalibrating, it won't find the stud! Sometimes, it thinks the entire wall has one big stud behind it and keeps beeping continously. It's completely unreliable and extremely frustrating. I don't recommend buying this device, at least not from an online store (returning it is a hassle).

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Stud Finder Yet!
I have used many before, but this one is the best. Simple and effective, the lcd screen is great and it's greatfor the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value : Does what it's designed to 100%
I pointed out a few things that were not right with and could be improved upon when I reviewed the Black&Decker BDL110S BullsEye Laser level Stud Sensor and it was refresing to find this little wonder that seems to have gotten everything right compared to the overpriced Black&Decker tool.

For starters, it's not a combo, there is no stud finder in it, so it's not bulky and it can fire the laser at any angle that you choose in addition to the obvious horizontal and vertical angles. It has bubble vials for both level & plumb. The laser can be adjusted for distance either short and bright or long with a slight loss in brightness, if you are close to the corner, it will even get the laser straight line onto the adjacent wall.

This little gadget rocks.

I purchased these levels from Amazon.com.The main problem was the longer level had a 3/16" crown in the center of it!I called Irwin and their technician said to return to Amazon and have them send me another one.Well I sent it back and ordered STABILA's set which is perfect. Also the levels vials are adjustable which STABILA's are not.I'd prefer not to have to adjust vials when I need to be hanging doors.I've used other Irwin products and like them that's why I tried their levels, even though all my past levels have been STABILA. 5-0 out of 5 stars Can't complain.Great for realtors.Quick measuring rooms.
I am a realtor and I have to say this is a great tool.I use this to measure room sizes and it make fast work of the details. It also figures out sq ft. so it makes it a breeze to do listings.

1-0 out of 5 stars Strait-line Sonic Laser Tape 50
Besides being an amatuer woodworker, I also have been fixing
up our 100 yr old house.
I own several convential tape measures. Out of curiousity, I decided to buy the Strait-line Sonic Laser tape 50, wondering
if I could simplify my various measurement needs of my projects.
My biggest complaint is that this device does not provide
accuracy of less than an inch. My second complaint is that the
advertising for it does not clearly disclose this fact.
Due to this lack of accuracy, I can't find any real use of
this device in anything I do. From my perspective, a waste of roughly $30.00
on a piece of garbage.
Hopefully there are other laser measure tapes on the market
that are more accurate....for now I will stick to my old fashioned method.

Reviews (3)

5-0 out of 5 stars Mate the size to your work needs, but all of them are great
The big benefit to these is that you get true mobility out of them. While holding a piece of work, lined up, in one hand, you use these quick grips in the other hand to secure the work. If it slips while clamping, it is still a one handed tool to release it, and reclamp it again. Enables you to maintain a professional flow to your work. I feel awkward when using regular clamps in comparison. They require two hands. You could use a spring clamp to hold it together, then get another clamp to give it a final hold, but the quick grip saves you from having to do that.
Having these clamps in a few different sizes is beneficial as well. Small ones are more frequently used, and don't get in the way. The 33 1/2" is great when you need to hold larger projects together, and you can't effectively use two smaller ones to substitute. Additionally the macro clamps give you deeper jaws for a farther reach, enabling you to use them for securing work, to your radial arm saw table for example. They are fast enough to be used for almost any application. Sometimes I use them to secure work when sanding with a power sander. A couple squeezes and they are on, and one squeeze and they pop off.
After getting the smaller ones, and using them, I immediately order two of the 33 1/2" for larger projects, and for tie downs on equipment, including the drill press, and occasionally the radial arm saw.
Their is a small rubber stopper, which you can readily remove, in order to reverse the end, and make it a spreader as well. Something not needed very often, but difficult to achieve without one of these.
One note is that these have built in rubber pads, that completely cover the metal internal end. That is an advantage when you do not want to mar the wood. That and the fact that you can squeeze these with one hand, creates a mechanism that is easy to use, but not something that you would want to use for strength clamping. As a safety measure, these clamp sufficiently for most operations, but a threaded bar clamp, is stronger. So for those operations where extreme strength is needed, these are not the clamps to use. You sacrifice mountain holding strength for the ease of use. For example if I was using a large bit on the drill press, and drilling into metal, I would clamp it with something more. Even the slightest movement in an operation like that, could cause a snag, sending the piece into movement. If you are using just one of them, at the end of a 24" board, and decide to rout the other end, it will move on you. Securing it with two of them, and it is super tied down. You get my drift.
The big advantage of quick grip clamps, is that they handle wood beautifully, even for glue up operations. Hold workpieces more than securely to do the job in most applications, and are so handy that they deserve more than 5 stars. I would feel lost without them. It is another tool in the must have category.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Clamp, Good Size
This clamp uses the ingenius trigger grip design for unbelievable ease of use. This makes the clamp unbelievably easy to tighten using one hand. A few warnings about this particular product, however:

(1) Be sure the size is correct. I think the 18" size is the best all-around size. But, if you are doing very large projects, the 36" size may be better.

(2) The plastic construction makes the clamps best for holding items "approximately" in place. If you need total clamping for cutting precision, look elsewhere.

All in all, a good product if it is the right size, and used for the right purpose.

3-0 out of 5 stars Convenient, yes...Worth the hype...No Way
These clamps are easy to use. The adjust with one hand. They don't mar the wood. But they lack the clamping power of j-clamps or c-clamps. I have about 6 of them and they're great for holding a piece of wood to the workbench for routing or sanding, but that's about it. Don't even try using them for glue-ups. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great device
Needed to find the center of a bedroom ceiling to install a overhead light.Since I live alone, I had no one to help me hold a regular tape measure to the ceiling. So I investigate other measuring device options and found the Strait-line 300 rolling tape
to be a good choice. Works great. Got the job done in less than five minutes. Tip - Save yourself some bucks, this device can be found at Home Depot for $20 dollars.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can get it much cheaper
This is a great product! The commercials are correct! But..

I ordered this from Amazon, then saw it at Home Depot for $19.That is a significant difference.Amazon only has a low price +10% if you have not already purchased it from Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars DIYer's Early Christmas Present
I will have limited use for a tape measure around the house thanks to my new rolling tape, especially when you have multiple items you want evenly spaced. The product allowed me to do the layout and measurements by myself and best of all it calculates the math!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly spaced pictures and loving it
I received this item for my birthday.I just used it for the first time and WOW!!!I didn't have to use a tape measure to space out the pictures that I was hanging in my living room. Can't believe how easy it is.I also used this with the Straitline Laser Level and ended up with perfectly spaced pictures that we exactly level on the wall.I highly recommend this item to anyone who lives indoors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a math major
My wife collects plates and after half of a day trying to hang13 plates equally seperated around the kitchen, I broke down and bought one of these. What a life saver. All I did was roll it over the wall then told it how many plates I had and rolled it back.It beeped at each interval, and if I passed it up, an arrow popped up and told me which way to go.It even has a built in dimpler to mark each spot! This thing is awesome. ... Read more

Granted, if you're into home repair, you've got a 25-foot steel tape in your toolbox. But how many times have you grumbled at it when it didn't stay rigid from across the room? Tapes have their purpose, but for estimated measurements of up to 50 feet, the Laser Tape is the way to go. Just point, press "read", and the distance is displayed in feet and inches or metric. It's simple to use and would be perfect for the homeowner trying to calculate how many gallons of paint to buy, how much vinyl flooring to get or even how much fertilizer to buy, provided you've got walls round your yard to bounce the laser off. It is, we must say, a little finicky, and it works best on monochromatic sold surfaces, but once you get the hang of it, it's a handy little tool.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Misnamed, should be called sonic tape
I received this device as a Christmas present and agree with previous reviews... you would be better off using a nice tape measure than this device.
On the surface it is appears to be a laser measurement device, but instead it bounces high frequency sound off an object you are measuring to determine distance. The sound is actually audible. It sounds like someone tapping a pencil on a desk. The only reason that the term "laser" is associated with the device, is because it has a built-in laser pointer to tell where you are aiming it.
The object you are pointing the device at must be fairly solid, or the sound won't reflect properly. It even states in the user's manual that when measuring something like fabric, to put cardboard in front. As expected, it can't measure through glass, even though the laser can shine through. I have also noticed that objects to the sides of what you are measuring, sometimes get picked up. For instance, I am measuring from my seat to the front of a cabinet. To measure to the wall behind the cabient I must move it over about 6 inches to the side of the cabinet to avoid reading the distance to the cabinet.
I have had fun playing with the device, but want people to know that at best, I would use it for estimating measurements. I got this as a gift, but would not have spend that kind of money on a device that only measures down to the nearest inch, and sometimes produces flaky measurements. I say strap an inexpensive laser pointer to a digital tape measure and you would have a much better device.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I received this as a gift and for my line of work, it works OK.
Don't expect exact accuracy, that's not what it is for. It is very good for me on estimates. Sure I get some obvious errors, but if you read the maunal, you will see that most are addressed there. Why would anyone use this to get measurements for cutting trim..??? That is what a tape is for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Estimating Tool
If you are a Real Estate Agent, a Carpenter, or do anything with Painting, Flooring, Wall-paper, etc, then this is the tool! I am a Real Estate Developer and this has become a perfect tool.

Whether finding the square footage of a property, or helping to get the estimates on upgrades and improvements such as painting and carpeting, it makes it SIMPLE to get accurate square and cubic footage calculations. This is not for perfect, exact measurements, but is PERFECT for estimating!

I recommend this to any DIY'er

I wouldn't recommend this tool to anybody. It's packaging is misleading. Yes it has a laser and yes it measures distance, but what the package doesn't tell you is that the laser has nothing to do with the measurement itself. Ultrasonic sensors are notoriously unrealiable, and the last thing I need is to be second guessing a measuring instrument. If you can't afford a real laser measuring device, stick with the old standby, because for distances where a measuring tape is a hassle, this TOY only works under the most ideal conditions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Estimator
I realize now that this item is not for doing professional measurement. It should be used if you need an estimate of a room, floor, wall, ceiling, or any other rough estimate. It is meant to be a time saver. Any reviewer that posts a bad review of this item obviously knows nothing of what they are talking about. They have expectations that far exceed what any product under $100 can offer. Please take my word for it...this item is a must have for tool men/women everywhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The most popular size and most frequently used
The big benefit to these is that you get true mobility out of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this Clamp/spreader
As with the entire quick grip products the features that should entice you to buy and use the Quick-Grip 512QC Bar Clamp/Spreader are the ease of adjustment and the fact that it won't mar even the softest of wood yet still provide ample force for your project. Being able to use it as both a clamp and a spreader is a major Plus over the other clamps available. People with low hand strength or hand pain can use the trigger ratchet used for the adjustment with ease. It only requires a firm squeeze just over the pressure used for scissors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Clamp in the Market!
I went out and bought a 12" 512QC Quick-Grip Bar clamp/spreader just a few days ago and felt I should have bought it a long time ago. I can do most of the clamping with one hand now. I am not a professional but this tool let me do my work much x faster. The grip is very strong. In one click you can loosen it and the other handle on top tightens it. The Rubber grips protects wood from being damaged. You don't need to insert anything between wood and the grip. I want to buy the bigger length ones when the need arise. Also this is very lightweight and strong. I think every wood working enthusiast or pro should have it

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick Grip clamps and spreaders for woodworking
I have been crafting fine cabnitry for many years now. In the process I have used virtually every clamp and strap device on the market. From Jegenson, strap clamps, spring grip, bar clamps (circular & retangular) to the racheting designs. All have particular advantages, but the best overall clamp that I have used for wood glueing and wookwrking is the quick grip. Some of their advantages are ease of clamping and or releaseing the mechanism itself. The clamp can also be quickly adjusted using one hand assuming that the clamp has been "gross" adjusted to the approximate size of the work piece. Gross adjustment is a simple one second process of sliding the statioanry end of the clamp down the staft to the approximate size of the work-piece. Equally easy to operate is the quick (hence the name) release button. It provides easy readjustments of tension or clamp position. Both of these features as esential whan working alone or with a complex assembly that requires pressure while the clamp is being applied. The weight of the clamps that I use the most (standard 36 and 24 inch clamps) are approxmiatly 2 and 2.5 lbs respectivly. These are the lightest clamps that I have used given their holding strength. They provide much more holding force than I have ever need for cabinet making with no apparent slippage over 24 hours (typ glue cure cycle). Their only limitation is their length. They come in standard lengths of 12, 18, 24, 36, and 50 inch lenghts. I guess the manufacturer assumes that if you wnat to build somehting bigger than 50 inches, you and prodably a professional and will have custom holddown hardware of your own...
