century 84320 arc welder- worth the money
This is a decent welder. It is stable at the amperage levels. It can be used on several applications. Very easy to use and understand for the intermediate welder, but could use more instruction on the guaging for steel welding. It performs well, although I wouldn't reccomend hard wiring because it decreases its mobility for alternate applications. Read the Title!! BENCH charger!!
When I bought this charger, I thought I could take it out to the street and jump-start my car battery. Wrong!! This charger works great - but only when it is plugged into a wall socket. It is a BENCH charger, not portable. I took the battery out of my car, and in a few hours I had a completely charged battery. It has maintained its charge now for at least a month with no loss in power. Works great when its plugged in!!

Century 87105 Bench Charger
It has no on and off switch, which is a safety hazard. But the 1st time my sick husband had to use it, in bad weather, it didn't work.

Needs an on-off switch
Nice compact charger. Hard to believe that it does not have an on-off switch. I don't think it's a good idea to hook a charger to your battery hot and I will install a switch on mine.

Awful Product
I bought this charger about 1 year ago. The handle broke off of it within the first 6 months (cheap plastic. The control knobs are cheap and come off easily. The automatic shut-off never did appear to function properly. I had it stored in a controlled environment and just went and got it off of the shelf. Now the charge side will not function at all. Being an electronic enginneer, I decided I could find out why. When I opened the box, something I don't recommend anyone without experience doing, I saw a product that is pieced together quite poorly. I am not at all impressed. Think I'll try a Schumacher now instead of even trying to fix this piece of shabby craftsmanship!!

Dependable over the years.
This model has served me well under severe abuse. In weather ranging from wet, freezing cold to desert heat, this charger has lasted for several years. It was connected for long periods of time to a 3500+ amp bank of deep cycle RV batteries for the purpose of full recharge and than maintenance.

Spend more elsewhere and get a better one
I have this particular charger and it's a waste of money. A month after I bought it, the timer wouldn't work in the "on" position. Another month later, the timer wouldn't wind down. You could set it for 15 minutes but the charger would stay on forever. Lost a couple of batteries before realizing this was the problem. 6 months later, it doesn't work at all.

This charger also doesn't include a diode to prevent draining the battery if the charger is unplugged. It might also drain batteries when turned off, but I can't verify that.

I'd recommend spending $$$ more and getting a better charger. I did.

I bought an electri pac with 35 amp fuse which blew and none
of the auto shops or hardware stores have 35 amp
fuses. This is not good!!

fire hazzard
I had one of these (j900) in my trunk which apparently bounced against the sidewall, knocked the leads loose, they arced together and started my trunk carpet on fire. The century mfg. co. won't return my calls, so I am trying to alert people to the potential disaster these products are.

Mine is no longer charging
I bought mine April 2001. It is no longer able to charge back up to power. It did work the first few months but now it is gone. It is interesting to see that I am not alone.

Died in less than 2 years.
I hardly used it at all. Kept it charged & stored as instructed.
Used it as backup battery on pop-up camper if main battery died.
AC Adaptor died I think, no replacement available for 15VDC AC Adaptor.

Try another model, not Century!!!

SAVES YOU...!!
More compact that other models out there. Keep it in my truck for emergencies. Had a short somewhere in the truck. 20 jumps later and it's still not empty! A must have for any road warrior, traveler, or just for emergencies.

Followup: One year later and it's DOA. Batteries won't charge and warranty is up. Purchased a $35 generic one at Menards.

Non Better
