1-0 out of 5 stars review of 3850 drill
Sorry that this is not a review of this drill but a spot on Bosch's good name. I have a 3850 18 volt drill that has had low use in 2 years and both batteries are shot. I wrote to Bosch about this and they returned my message thanking me for my interest in Bosch tools. I do not think that was what I wanted to hear. This is the 3 rd Bosch battery drill I have owned and first that is NO GOOD! I have a 9.6 that the orginal batteries lasted about 10 years and it is now on second set that will out perform the 18 V by about 3 to one. I had a 7.2 V that outlasted the availabilty of new batteries. It was a great tool that got loads of use. I have several other Bosch tools but this piece of junk just might end my buying any more of these tools at all. Take hede when considering their tools.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great hammerdrill except for one crucial design flaw
I was at first very happy with this hammerdrill. It's well built and comes with a case & two batteries. It also has a little clip on the handle to hold a screwdriver bit - brilliant. But when I started to drill into concrete the problems began. It drilled the holes as well as the Milwaukee I had borrowed from a friend, but apparently it has a design flaw that allows concrete dust to get inside and cause the speed control mechanism to get stuck. So when I tried to switch between the two speed settings, I wasn't able to push the switch "all the way" in either direction. That meant the chuck couldn't "get in gear" which means the motor turns but the chuck doesn't. So now the drill is totally useless. It's really too bad because I know Bosch makes great tools... ... Amazon.com Review

Whenever you buy Bosch, you know you're getting awesome quality in workhorse pieces. This combo pack of four cordless tools is a prime example. The 1/2-inch drill/driver is lean and mean, just growling with 475 in./lbs. of torque. The keyless, 1/2-inch chuck can be opened and tightened easily with one hand, and it has a 16-position torque-control clutch to handle a variety of different materials and thicknesses. The 5-3/8-inch circular saw is light and handy, even with its battery, and cuts at a nice 3,600 rpm. We like this saw particularly because the depth-of-cut adjustment is in the rear, allowing easy, one-handed changes. Bosch's flashlight is a tough cookie, with a pivoting head and powerful beam. But here's the best part--as a bonus, Bosch tosses in its reciprocating saw, a five-pack of blades, and a 10-piece Clic Change drill bit and driver kit. The reciprocating saw feels great in hand and is the kind of tool you can't wait to try. It offers two stroke length choices to match your job, and packs plenty of power for tough demolition work. This kit is a great buy for professionals or for serious home remodelers. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy beyond belief!
I have lusted for a kit such as this for some time, waffling between brands (Makita, DeWalt, Bosch), and couldn't bring myself to spend the money for a quality system. I'm glad I waited for this Bosch package. I have used it for three months now and wouldn't trade it for anything. I still have a 14 volt Makita cordless drill that I like because it is lighter for some jobs, but the extra torque of 18 volts and the feel of the Bosch makes tough screw jobs a breeze. As a bonus, you get the cordless recip saw with tooless blade change which is very handy. I have used it for cutting sewer drainage pipe with minimal digging, trimming limbs in trees with an aggressive blade, plus it is so nice for high altitude remodeling jobs. I don't do as much remodeling work as I used to, but I carry a drill in the truck always, as there is always a use for in a rural area. I feel you truly get what you pay for when it comes to tools. There is nothing I hate worse than getting to a job and not have the tools I need in working order.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!
I love this thing! I was amazed at how powerful it is. This drill will drill through just about everything. I have tried many drills from other brands and they just don't compare.

5-0 out of 5 stars How do you Improve on it?
This is the best drill I've ever owned, bar none! DeWalt, Makita, you name it I've owned it...even the Tim Allen Drill/driver. Nothing I've used matches the torque or the clutch. It is comfortable, and will drill through anything I have touched it to. I was so impressed I bought two! Bosch has made me Blue to the Bone.

5-0 out of 5 stars CORDED DRILL WITHOUT THE CORD
The title says it all. When you bring out this drill, You're bringing out the "BIG GUNS!" I kid you not, This is the only cordless drill that I've ever used that has the power of a corded drill. I use it for driving screws, and a corded drill to drill the pilot holes. This way, I dont have to keep changing bits. They say it weighs 15 lbs., but you can't tell it. It feels more like 8. It is really well balanced. The batteries last for ever, and then it only takes an hour to charge them back up. I built three tables before I had to change batteries. If I were Porter-Cable, Dewalt, Milwaulkee or any of the rest, I'd be ashamed. When it comes to cordless drill drivers, this one stands alone and a way out in front. Thanks Bosch, you did it again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Killer Drill
If your looking for a good drill like I was not too long ago, than look no further, trust me you won't be dissappointed. I,ve used every major brand of drills, DeWalt, Milwaukie, Porter Cable etc. All of which are decent, but none match this fine drill. It out torks the DeWalt 18 volt and handles much better, the variable trigger is superb and the battery life is outstanding. I'm a residential electrician and drill alot of holes, this baby goes through studs and joists like butter and keeps on tickin, fast recharge as well. This drill is ideal for everything from a power drill to a screw gun. Bosch is the best!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Saw - Just Grab And Go
I bought this saw about nine months ago just for kicks since I already had the 24 volt drill, circular saw, and recip saw. I was more than impressed when I got it. It's lightweight and easy to carry, powerful, accurate, and has a good runtime (I quit counting at 75 2x4's ). I use mine for trimming and it is ideal for this. The saw overall is a good value with 2 batteries and a one hour charger. It won't replace a corded miter saw, but it comes pretty close.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cordless Compound Miter Saw
I consider myself to be an advanced do it your selfer to let you know where I'm coming from. I've always wanted a compound miter saw, and have been putting it off for one reason or another. Recently I purchased a Bosch 24 volt drill/circular saw combo kit, and noticed this miter saw kit. One of the things I liked was that the batteries were interchangeable. It comes with two, plus the two from my kit, this would enable me to have an infinite supply of power. I checked the fence, and table for square, and they were good to go right out of the box, I was in shock. By looking at the manual, if you had to make an adjustment it didn't look that difficult. If anyone has ever set up a table saw, or radial arm saw you can appreciate this. I charged the batteries and immediately put it to work cutting 2" X 6" rafters for a 12' X 18' shed that I'm working on. Please note that you can't cut more than a 15 degree miter on a 2" X 6". I have to tell you that this saw has power. The fact that it is cordless is a non event. Actually it is an event, I was re-trimming out our bedroom. Since I was cordless I didn't interrupt my homes electrical system, and I didn't have to hear my wife complain about me messing up the TV. The trigger, and safety are comfortable to use. The dust collection system works good enough. The settings are accurate, and easy to read. The safety shield doesn't obstruct your view, and works smooth. The motor brake will stop on a dime, and give you nine cents change. I really like this saw, I feel it will meet or exceed all of your expectations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I now believe in a cordless saw
I bought this set primarily for the saw, but hey, who can't use another cordless drill. I have now used the saw to make every cut for a 500 sq foot cabin. 2x4s, 2x6s, engineered wood I beams, engineered structural beams, floor decking, plywood, etc., etc. What a winner! I am amazed at the long lasting power of the batteries. 1 hour to charge and days to run down. Bosch makes a great line of tools this one is no exception. The drill is very strong as well and don't forget to mail in the coupon for the reciprocating saw body.

5-0 out of 5 stars Contractor grades this tool A+++
Bosch has really done it this time. I used to own a Dewalt 18v system but my truck was stolen with all the tools so was forced (darn) to buy some new tools. I wanted the 24 volt system since I was starting fresh, but the big yellow system didn't come in kits at the time but Bosch did and at a price I could afford. Well no sooner did I open up the case that I fell in love with these tools. Yes there are some cons to them. The case is huge and won't fit in my utility bed boxes. The saws blade guard could be improved for better plunge cuts and thin cuts. The blade storage, inside the case, isn't threaded so blades always go all over the place. Now for the good stuff. Power, Power, Power. I have not been able to stall the drill yet on a fresh charge. The saw will stall but it has the most power of any cordless saw I've tried. I can cut the rafter tails on a new house with one charge. Its great for pickup work and in remote areas where you just need a few cuts and no power is available. Mind you, you can't build a whole house with this and stay on budget but you sure could have fun trying. Believe me, I am the envy of every job site when I pull out that saw. I use the drill every day and can attest you won't go wrong with this. !!Notice!! you can still get the free cordless recip saw with the sales receipt, upc from the box and the voucher from Bosch until the end of the year 2000. Just call their 800 number imprinted on the inside of the plastic case.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Quality on the market
I am a contractor and I use these tools everyday. I have had this set for a couple of years now and I can say without hesitation it was a very wise purchase, I have no regrets. BOSCH is quality equipment and work flawlessly. I am still using the original batteries that came with the set and they are still going strong. I especially like the fact that the batteries recharge in just one hour and that they are Ni-MH.

I now have all the BOSCH 24 volt tools except the new jig saw, but will probably have it this spring. I would recommend these tools to anyone who wants quality well built tools.

2-0 out of 5 stars no sawzall
i am a contractor, i thought finally a cordless set with enough power to justify putting it in the truck and pulling it out on a job. it works great, plenty of power. one of my workers was pulling out a screw on a float over the water and the chuck backed off and fell in,(1 month old) a bosch mechanic said that bosch wouldn't replace it. the drill has to much power to use in reverse over the water, was what was told to me. after alot of anger they finally replaced it.the second thing is i bought it in june 2002 and was told the it was a higher price because you get a free sawzall. WRONG that ended april 2002 and BOSCH wont do anything about it. bottom line is no free sawzall

1-0 out of 5 stars Bosch isn't what it's cracked up to be
I purchased a Bosch 24-volt combo tool kit from International Tool Corporation on the Internet. Form the very first time I used the Bosch kit, I was very disappointed in the Bosch cordless tool performance. I have used many Bosch corded tools with great performance and success. This is the first cordless tool I have used by Bosch and it is the worst performing cordless tool system I have ever used. Being a contractor I use a wide variety of tools and in buying the Bosch system I feel like I have been misled and used. The Bosch kit was more expensive, the batteries that are provided with the kit have short run times, it is difficult to find additional batteries and the longer run time batteries that I have found on-line indicate that I will have to wait weeks to receive them. In general, the performance of the tools is sub-standard at best. I feel I have bought into a tool system that will have to be replaced within a year, and combo kits are supposed to last at least 3 years. It will be a long time, if ever, that I will purchase Bosch tools again. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you're having trouble finding a cordless combo kit thatpacks enough punch at an affordable price, give this 24-volt arsenalfrom Bosch a try. With a maximum torque rating of 500 inch-pounds, thecordless drill is among the toughest available. That kind of torquenecessitates the included removable side handle and is likely to makethe user thankful for the cushion grip. While it offers only 16 clutchsettings--a small number compared to the 18 to 24 settings on competingdrills--this heavy-duty tool is really intended as more drill thandriver, and in most applications we can imagine, 16 settings is plenty. The keyless chuck on this drill has a grip tough enough to match themotor's high torque and can hold the big bits you'll want to use withthis drill.

The blade-left, 24-volt circular saw offers as much power and cutcapacity as you could ask for in a cordless saw. It can easily cutregular 1-1/2-inch-thick material at a full 50-degree bevel, and thebevel mechanism has a positive stop at 45 degrees. It featurestool-free, rear-pivot depth-of-cut adjustments and tool-free beveladjustments, plus the wrench for blade changes stores in a clip righton the base. The rear battery configuration on this saw allowed Boschto give the tool good, even balance while maintaining a nice lowprofile.

Bosch's cordless reciprocating saw provides plenty of heavy-dutycutting power without the leash. Its 0 to 2,300 spm speed ranks it withmany corded reciprocating saws in raw cutting speed. It featurestool-free blade changing, shoe adjustments, and--in a feature unique toBosch's reciprocating saws--you can switch the stroke length from 3/4inch for precision plunge cuts to 1-1/4 inch for faster cuts. For areciprocating saw, it's relatively easy on the arms, and for a cordlessmodel, its power can't be beat.

The batteries on Bosch's 24-volt tools are 2 amp hr ni-cads made forBosch by Panasonic. While we really like the padded grips Bosch uses onits cordless tools, the 24-volt battery does add a little extra heft tothese tools, and no matter how nice the grip is, you will notice theextra weight if you work with these tools all day. This kit is idealfor contractors and other professionals looking for heavy-duty,high-powered cordless tools at a great price. The full kit includes the1/2-inch drill, 6-1/2-inch circular saw, reciprocating saw, two 24-voltbatteries, a one-hour charger, a drill bit, carbide circular saw blade,a rip fence, two reciprocating saw blades, and a case that holds itall. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch 24 V 3 pc combo
Words cannot express how much of a pleasure it is to use these tools. Battery life is superb and the tools are of excellent quality. Not enough good things to say about the set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect, when it works
I'm an HVAC contactor. I use my tools often. I previously owned a porter cable cordless drill that performed flawlessly. The performance of the bosch tool has been exemplary. Lots of power and reasonable weight. The first gear on the cordless drill gave up after two months of use however. Now I have to take it to a local repair shop and live without it for a week. Even after they repair it I will question it's durablity. I would suggest that people looking at this kit strongly consider a dewalt.

The only drawback of these tools is the availability of them. Other than that, five stars all the way! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More drill than I need?
If maximum power is a priority, this drill is absolutely your best choice. But, do you need this much drill? Although the Bosch has monster power, is well designed, and is lighter than what you'd expect from a 24 volt, it's still a handful. Its slightly larger size also makes it more difficult to fit in those awkward spots. Don't get me wrong, I purchased this drill and happily use it. But if I had to decide again, I might have given a less powerful but smaller and more comfortable Makita stronger consideration. The bottom line for me is be realistic about how much power you really need.

5-0 out of 5 stars 3960K-CC Excellent choice
I have just recently purchased the 3960K 24-Volt 1/2" Drill/Driver Kit. This was my first high performance cordless purchase. It didn't take long for the drill to show it's true power. My father-in-law bought the Panasonic EYC132 15.6 Volt Cordless Performance Package Metal Combo Kit. We used both drills side-by-side to put up Hardie Panel siding on my house. My father-in-law had to charge his batteries twice during the job, while the original battery that I used is still in my drill. The power did not decrease one bit. I'm going to hold off on charging it to see just how much longer it can hold out. We'll be finishing the siding this coming weekend.

The only problem that I had was that the adjustable clutch moved sometimes, while I was drilling. I couldn't tell if this was caused by my hand moving it, as I supported the drill or if this was a problem with the clutch itself.

Regardless, I feel that the drill was an excellent investment. I have recently purchased the Bosch 24V Saw over the internet and can't wait to see how it performs. All of the ratings show that it's the best by far. Hopefully my expectations will be met.

3-0 out of 5 stars design flaw
This drill has great power, however, the chuck assembly is attached with a small plastic ring. It will break in a 3 foot fall. My drill has broken twice in 6 months. To their credit, Bosch has repaired it free. I wish they would upgrade it to a more rugged model.

1-0 out of 5 stars The nose of this drill will break off!!
I am a Genral building contractor For 27 years and I started with a 9.6 makita back in early 80's then went to 12V milwaukee and then to this drill and niether fo this two drills are any good. Iam still using the old 80's Makita. I bought this drill basing it on other Bosch products and this has to be the worst. This drill fell off a SIX FOOT ladder and the whole nose of the BROKE COMPLETELY OFF. I will stay with Makita.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed with Bosch
I work in the building industry, and have bought my share of tools. I purchased the Bosch 24V, thinking it would be a good replacement for my 6 year old cordless Dewalt drill. During two years of use, I have had numerous problems with this drill, and have gone back to my 8 year old Dewalt. The charger has been fixed twice. I have fixed this drill twice and it is currently in the shop getting a repair estimate. Bosch has a repution for depndable tools. I own several Bosch tools, but I am deeply dissapointed with this purchase. ... Read more

It has a two-speed gearbox that offers up to 500 inch-pounds of torque in high-torque mode and up to 1,300 rpm in high-speed mode, as well as a 16-position clutch, a tight-gripping ratcheting chuck, and a soft ergonomic grip. Woodworkers who like the smooth, accurate performance of Bosch's jig saws will appreciate the cordless model included in this package. 5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch cordless combo pack
As a person who was in the construction field I know which products will last, and which ones I wouldn't use if the Manufacturer gave them to me for free. My doubts about buying the drill, the planner and the jigsaw on line before I could actually feel the weight displacement and the ease of the buttons was dispelled the minute I opened up the box. This Bosch cordless combo set is truly a solid piece of equipment, I have no doubt it will last me for a very long time. It's a great addition to my tool collection. THANKS BOSCH & AMAZON ... Amazon.com Review

This review refers to the new model of this tool. This is a reconditioned power tool. Reconditioned generally means that the tool has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the tool back to like-new condition. Some tools may contain cosmetic blemishes. Reconditioned tools come with the same warranty as their new counterparts.

The Bosch 3860K drill/driver makes its presence felt on the job site. Two speed settings, with variable speeds for each, and a 16-position torque control put you in charge. Switch effortlessly from high speed to high torque for jobs that need a little extra muscle, then switch back on the fly. The enclosed side handle attaches easily to either side of the tool for better control and stability on tough drilling jobs. A slim design and solid metal casing add to the overall durability and design, while a soft-grip, easy-touch trigger and safety stop make this tool a joy to use. All in all, the Bosch 18-volt drill/driver is a solid performer that will quickly find a place among your most frequently used power tools. --Carl Thress ... Read more
