skil 2924
I bought the Skil 2924 model which is similar to this one in terms of voltage (2.4) but has a four position twistable grip for hard-to-reach places, and a little torch on the front. I'm not a big tool guy, but this thing has been great - always reliable and easy to use, I'd recommend it to the home user who needs something simple and straightforward that gets the job done.

A good basic tool
I've owned this cordless screwdriver for about 3 months now, and I've probably only used it 3 times. For someone who doesn't use tools too often, this is a fine tool. I've seen other cordless screwdrivers that have more options and attachments, but if you don't need those things then this is a great value. excellent cordless screw driver
I second the opinion on all the positive things that about this cordless screw driver. I used this tool to set screws when I built a deck earlier this year. This tool may not be too well suited to drill many large diameter holes in wood or other materials -- just because the rpm is low. When you set hundreds of screws or drill many, many holes a corded drill may be better suited. I would like to add the following details:
1) Invest in a good set of driver bits that match the screws you are using
2) the stud-finder is a bit flimsy and works so-so, but I used it once or twice successfully
3) buy a second battery for example on a major auctioning web-page. You should be able to get one for 1/4 the price of this tool. That helped me a lot
4) once you have this tool you are not very likely to use your hand screw drivers any longer

Bosch's Other Tool Line
When you consider that you could buy four and a half of these for one of those "yellow" branded tools, and that Skil is a Bosch subsidiary, it kinda' puts things in perspective. OK, so the yellow brand is an excellent professional tool, but for most of us in the real world this Skil will do just fine.
My wife bought mine as a gift to me almost three years ago when my old corded drill took a powder. I have to admit that I was disappointed when I saw the brand she had chosen. After all, what do most women know about tools, huh? But after that time it has helped me build a deck, put up doors and moulding, and numerous other projects, and it is an indispensable staple in my workshop. I hardly know what a regular screwdriver looks like anymore. And I don't have to tell most of you what a convenience the cordless feature is.
Since then I have purchased an 18 volt Skil combo pack containing a 1/2" drill and 5-3/8" circular saw and I am just as happy with this purchase. (Four Amazon Stars)
My drill/driver has the now older 5 position (plus lockup) clutch which I personally find useless in anything but "5" or the lockup position, but it does have enough power to twist your arm off if you get caught off guard, so be careful!!
Also mine doesn't have the built in stud finder, or work light that is the current (but useful) gimmick.
As a left-hander I find it comfortable to use with either hand.
I would like Skil to include an extra battery and perhaps the one hour charger in place of the three hour version that is standard. Mine died, but I suspect it's because it was plugged in most of the time. Replacement batteries can be hard to find too, but not impossible. I now have five of them from several different sources, including the original which has seen better days. I've found them to be between $...-$...depending on the source. That's not bad by comparison.
Read and follow their very complete instructions for handling of the batteries and chargers. It's good information to get the maximum life out of both. And, unlike me, UNPLUG THE CHARGER WHEN NOT IN USE!!
If you have a little more to spend, get the combo pack. Two tools, two batteries and the one hour charger, plus carrying case for about twice as much, but worth it. Both are an excellent deal if you ask me.

The Lower (And Cheaper) Bosch Line Of Tools Is Skil
As a weekend warrior/home owner I have a budget and other considerations when spending money for tools. But, if cost were no object.... };-0)
I bought this combo pack because I all ready own a Skil 18v drill/driver (a gift from my wife) that I use more than I ever expected to and it's battery charger went bad. Given how much I do use this tool, I'd need a new one in a hurry.
That said, individual parts can be hard to get for Skil tools and their website is only partially helpful. Don't think you'll get replacement batteries at your local home center or discount store inspite of what they say.
Instructions are very clear and well written, and set up was easy. I would strongly suggest to anyone using battery operated tools to read and follow the instruction for battery usage and charging to get the maximum life out of them.
Though a little more developement is needed, it does seem that Skil made an attempt to make these tools comfortable for both righties and lefties. As you may guess, I am left handed and this is a problem most lefties that use power tools. It can be a dangerous one if the tool is not designed for left handed use.
Both tools have plenty of power for most jobs and a fairly long use time between charges.
One thing that impressed me most is the Bosch designed metal gear drive system in the saw, verses the plastic most manufacturers use. Of course, it's noisier, but which would YOU rather have?
Another positive thing is the battery charger. It works quickly and it works well. Be sure, as they say many times in the instructions, UNPLUG THE CHARGER WHEN NOT IN USE. I believe this to be the reason for the demise of my other charger.
If I were a pro, I might consider another brand and have to pay for it too, but as a DIYer this is a very, very good alternative to giving up the farm.

A VERY Smooth Pair
I just got my birthday present yesterday and this combo was it! I was up until almost midnight using both the drill and saw. I have had a cordless screw/drill driver for more than 10 years, but this one is by far the best. You will be amazed at how easily the 5" saw cuts through most thin material. It is very easy to follow a scribed line for ripping short distances. (Maybe the sharp carbide blade has something to do with it).

Awesome Powerful Drill
This Drill out of many that I own and used is the best drill. It provides plenty of power and the corded back out has a really long cord and the battery lasts long. This is really a great drill to own and use and is very light weight and esy to use. It has a great rubber grip on the back and has a pretty short charge cycle. All and All this is a very good and powerful drill for the price and is a great power drill and If your looking for a drill like this definetly buy this one its a great value and a great product like mant other great products made buy skil so buy this drill if your lookking for a power dill.

Good drill
My skil drill gets a lot of use at my part time job. Its not as durable as the Dewalt but its worth saving the money. Its a good tool and its sorda built to last. I wouldn't buy it if your going to use it the hell out of it because it won't last, but its pretty heavy duty. The key less chuck needs work.

The screwdriver is good but the battery charger,that is sold with the driver, is no good. I had one for 1year. it failed , returned for a new ( which was to charge two batteries)double. they would not give me a new one.So I bought a single battery charger, it lasted two months took it back and Kmart did not have on. So I purchased the new driver complete. I placed the new battery in charger and the next day the charger had stoped working. A blister appeared on the side. I am sure others have had the same trouble that is why K mart no longer carries the skil. Why can't they design another charger. When the single charger is pluged in it makes the battery lay horozontal with ground. Bad design

Battery Blues
I bought my 2207 in Feb of 98. I've been very pleased with it especially when I need to deal with the 40+ screws holding the fairing parts onto my sport-tourer motorcycle. In anticipation of some work last weekend, I plugged in the wall charger and slipped in the battery on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, I notice the red led was out. Closer examination revealed a deformed charger case: a part inside had burned out an melted the plastic. This also "took out" the battery (or vice versa)as it's at zero volts and my Maha C777+ smart charger won't initialize for it. Anyhow, it seems the 92943 wall charger is sold only with the 2207. I can get a 92942 dual charger ... and a new battery ... here at Amazon. .... So, it's a new screwdriver I need after all. And that's why I have the battery blues.

Great product at a better price
I have had the Skil Twist Xtra for nearly 5 years and the product still works as good as it did when I bought it. The amount of torque the screwdriver puts out is quite good. Obviously, all of these small screwdrivers have their limit, but this is better than the Black and Deckers out there. Better yet, if you do get into a jam and the motor can't finish the job, there is a lock-out switch that allows you to lock the shaft and complete the job by hand. After 5 years of use, my battery is still working good.

This is by far the best of the home-oriented electric screwdrivers. The B&D units are all ...compared to this. I oughta know - I bured out 2 B&D's before I bought this unit.

Old battery lasted 7 years
One of the best things to mention about this screwdriver is the fact that you can't possibly over-tighten (and possibly break something) if you hold it with a soft grip. I have owned one of these since 1994 and just now have had to replace the batteries. I have two batteries to insure that the screwdriver is always ready to use. I bought a cordless drill and found that I could not control the force of the driver nearly as well as the Skil-Twist.

The Best Cordless screwdriver without a doubt!
I have used this screwdiver for years of reliable service and then gave it to my daughter who continues to get good service from the tool. I have tried several Black & Deckers which have failed due to low torque, battery life and user interface. If you want a tough, strong, reliable cordless screwdiver, get the Skil. If you only have light work and a tight budget the 2.4 volt Skill will work. If you are a contractor, you probably want the Dewalt 920K-2 7.2 volt ... ; but, for the normal homeowner, the 3.6 volt 2207 Skil is the one. You won't be sorry. I bought a new one today. ... Light duty - Good enough for the price
I bought the keyed version about 5 or 6 years ago. It provided good service, so good that I didn't have to buy a new drill in 6 yrs; however, the batteries do drain too fast and are quite expensive (altough the life of the batteries was 6 yrs!!!). I'm considering on buying a new 9.6 V cordeless Black and Decker Drill for almost the same price as the batteries though ...

A tool you'll love to hate
I bought this cordless tool for its weight, size, and flexibility. Power, when it worked, was OK. Unfortunately the battery life is poor and the rechargeable cartridges lose their charge quickly so I'm continually stuck with a dead drill--not a good thing after low-crawling to the far end of an attic to drill a couple of holes drive a couple of screws...

I'm finally considering it a loss, and am off to research consumer sources for a more reliable, longer-life tool....

Longevity Problems
I bought the 2236, the keyed version of the 2237, from Home Depot just after it was introduced. I also purchased additional batteries and a fast charger. The tool no longer works even with very intermittant use during its life. Home Depot must have recognized this as they no longer carry this (or similar) Skil units. This was a big invesment with little useable life. I'll stick to Makita or Ryobi rather than Skil

Money Sense
This drill is a light enough drill that anyone can use it, and it's budgeted for those small home projects. Skill Highperformance 14.4 volt Drill
I owned two Skill High Performance 14.4 volt drills, one has been stolen and the other was involved in an accident and I need to replace them. I bought a B&D 14.4 volt drill but have been less than pleased with it's performance. I have been unable to find new SKILL 14.4 volt High performance drills and want you to know that I'm very disappointed. Why, when you come out with a good quality product at a reasonable price does it suddingly disappear from the market?

Better than that ...
The only other reviewer of this product gave the 14.4 V Skil a "3"; I think it's better than that.

First, it's a helluva' bargain, at 14.4 V, with a keyless chuck, and 2 rechargable batteries. Big-name competitors are typically $40 more.

As far as the problem with the bit slipping out of the built-in holder, it's: 1) a minor problem, and; 2) probably can be avoided in the long term by sliding the bit out laterally rather than "popping" it out (stressing and stretching the plastic).

I'd give this product a 4.5 overall. Not a 5, because nobody's perfect. With the 1-hr quick charger I don't see the battery problem as important.

Bottom line: Good product. Good price.
