Amazon.com Review

Like you, we don't like to mess around with our sanding--it's dusty, tedious at times, and not one of the more rewarding aspects of woodworking. However, after firing up this 12-inch disc sander from Delta, we're starting to change our tune. Designed as an affordable version of Delta's industrial sander, its cast-iron base supports the machine with vibration-dampening weight, while the tilting table (with positive stops at 45 and 90 degrees) and inset miter slot let you support and position your material. The 1/2-horsepower induction motor spins the heavy-duty steel disc quietly, up to 2,500 rpm. Depress the manual brake lever on top, and the disc stops in seconds--a nice safety feature that truly impressed us. This tool takes off a lot of stock quickly, and removes dust very effectively through a built-in connector hose that attaches to any shop vac. Bolt Delta's disc sander down to your workbench, and get ready to remove life's rougher edges. --Justin Paul ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Out of the box impressions: a good buy, 4+ stars
I was impressed with the overall quality of this little sander. It's very heavy, with over 90% of it being cast iron (just the switch, the brake lever and the dust collection chute are sturdy plastic). The disc's brake is very nice - stopping the disc in less than 1.5 seconds; otherwise it takes 2.5 minutes for the disc to stop on its own. The motor is smooth and quiet, with a hint of vibration. The machining of the table is typical Delta - not perfect, but functionally OK. It's ruler flat lengthwise, but it's not perfectly flat across the table (shortways). Mine has a 0.005" dip near the disc face and a 0.002" dip just inside the miter gauge slot. A standard table saw miter gauge fits nicely into the slot, with no interference with the disc. The table's trunnion machining is a bit rough and stiff, but it works. The levers are the "L" shaped metal ratcheting type, and clearance is a bit tight. Consider replacing them with star knobs if you plan on frequent table tilting. There's a 90 and 45 degree stop, which needed adjusting OOTB. I haven't run anything against it yet (I plan on using it for metalworking and some woodworking), but the motor should be plenty strong - as long as the work's not jammed against the disc. Haven't tried the dust collection so can't comment.

Overall impression is that of economical quality. This should last a long time, and it offers a lot (see the pictures for the tilting range). Would have given it 5 stars except for the cramped knobs, the stiff table tilting, the slight vibration and the mildly crowned table. I give it 4+ stars instead, since none of these are serious detractions that impede its use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good tool for price, but Delta quality is its weakness
I found this sander to be a great alternative to a disk/belt unit. The price point is great for the level of features. I do not have room for a disk/belt unit that would give me as large a disk. I rarely use the belt anyway.

A miter guide track that accepts a full size miter bar is very useful. At 12" you get a legitimate 5.75" of effective sanding. You can get a precise level and square on the table, though it is not an easy adjustment. The table adjustments are hampered by the quailty of the castings and fittings. The unit is quite heavy (no aluminum!) and runs very stable on a bench. The flywheel effect helps it maintain power, though the 1/2 motor could be bigger. I would not pay the premium to get the 31-125. I looked at the 31-125 and with this unit I was getting most of the features at a great price.

I've used it on maple and cherry and have been able to do both guided and freehand sanding and shaping without burning. I've fed a 4" section of 5/4 cherry for an endgrain polish and was very pleased with the results.

Delta quality has been lacking over the last few years, this unit is no exception. Castings are not at all well finished. Even the quality of the nobs and bolts are below every competitor, even Rigid. I'm not sure how long Delta can survive on engineering good features, but producing mediocre quality. I will probably disasemble and rebuild this sander, tuning the castings, replacing the low quality fasteners and end up with a much better machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars 12" Delta disk sander
This is a dream machine. Smooth, quite and well made. Everything fits fine. This is a great machine for the Money. If someone writes a bad review on this product it is because they got a lemon or they are looking for a $2,000 dollar product for $169.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool, not outstanding
This is basically a good sander but there are some issues that I discovered. The wheel has axial runout of 0.020 inch at the rim which surprised me, I expected something more like 0.002 inch. Changing the sanding disks is time-consuming. The stock disk is 60 grit, too coarse for my work. It took me an hour to change it. This is because the stock disk leaves all its glue residue on the platter, which is very hard to clean off. I used acetone and steel wool. The platter is smaller than standard so I had to trim the new disk so it would work at all. The angle gauge is very cheesy, it is fixed at 2 points and bows off its mounting surface in between. Despite these problems, I was able to get my job done nicely with this tool. It runs real quiet, is very powerful, and basically user-friendly. The precision table and large size are nice. The 45 degree position stop is not very "crisp" but may improve with use. The tool is greatly enhanced with the Delta 34-779 mitre gauge, available separately. No mitre gauge was included. All in all, it's a good tool but obviously a tool made in China to meet a price target.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
This sander, as a lot of Delta equipment is cheap (junk) .. a little bit load and the switch starts smoking and lead wires are burning through.. Just try to disassemble this piece of junk..I can't..
I just ordered a Jet and will trash this Delta.. I will NEVER buy any Delta equipement anymore ( and I bought a lot from them .. this is it..) They went cheap and just rely on their name... another rip off ... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected "kit-in-a-box
Like most of the inexpensive, cast iron, machinery coming out of the far east, this is somewhat of a "kit-in-a-box." All the parts were there, and it assembled pretty much as to instructions. It helps to have a mill file, and a countersink chucked in a cordless drill, to knock off some of the sharp edges and burrs. You will also need a few ounces of paint thinner/kerosene and some old rags to take off the thick coating of grease on some of the parts. Finally, a small tube of decent grease or anti-seize compound to carefully lube locations (like the tilting table for the disk) that have metal-metal contact.

This model has reasonably flat cast iron tables, unlike the Craftsman model I had previously used. I use it all the time for sanding fine parts. I only wish the belt table had the nice semi-circular,tounge in groove guide that the disk table has.

Startup found the belt "squirming" a bit too much for my tast. Carefully opening the side panel, and touching up the crown/mold parting line region of the elastomeric drive wheels (while the machine is running) took care of that issue. ***Please, be very, very careful while trying this procedure. Use a straight mill file, with teeth all of the way to the end, and do not put you fingers inside the shroud area.***

Such tuneups are the "price to pay" for inexpensive tools.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment for Delta
I received and assembled the sander with relative ease. After little use, I found I could not get the tracking mechanism to work. I removed the belt cover and found the entire top pulley moved on the shaft it was mounted on which made the tracking impossible. It appeared to be a flaw in assembly.
I returned the product for a full refund and purchased a Craftsman equivalent. The Craftsman sander had more metal parts, including the idler wheels. Both Craftsman and Delta units are Chinese made.
I have other Delta products that I am very happy with. It's disappointing to me that Delta is buying Chinese made equipment and putting their name on it. Go for the quality and don't worry about being loyal to the name!
Tool Crib was wonderful in the handling of this issue! I will gladly continue doing business with them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Sander
I found this sander reasonably easy to set up (except for the disc sander cover.) It has worked very well on the projects where I have used it(mixed wood and metal.) I did have to build a stand for it.
It is not a 6 x 48 belt and 12 inch disc sander, but it works for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected!
Though I was disappointed when I found that Delta had discontinued the model the SA180 replaced, I am very pleased with this sander. It is well built, looks good and heavy enough and "tight" enough to operate vibration free. I am especially impressed with the spring loaded handles used for adjusting the material tables. I have been using the 1 inch belt to sand burrs and corners off angle iron that has been cut with a saw. The sander makes fast work of it but be sure to get some finer grit belts. Definitely worth the price difference from the average import sander I looked at.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed
A good tool, with pleanty of power. I am using it to sand comb teeth, and it is too fast with the belt supplied. I had to go to a finer sandpaper belt. The disc would be more useful if it was larger, but it works fine. It is quiet and smooth running, the tracking adjustment works fine, and has almost no vibration. I like it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Delta's Black Sheep
I received this saw for Chrismas. It arrived in good condition, but there are a number of very disconcerting aspects to it.

The saw is manufactured in Taiwan - not in the USA (like the unisaws).According to Jason Carpenter of Delta (1-800-368-1487x3143) it was designed for the Canadian market and brought down to the states to compete with Jet.Not being a unisaw, there are a number of changes.

First, the throat plate is different and unique from *all* of the Delta table saws (cabinet/contractor). At present, you cannot purchase a zero clearance throat plate for it.

Second, the base dimensions are different.I purchased a mobile base with extension (50-289) and it does not fit.Delta has the square section (50-729) which you can order for $121.01.It is not yet listed on their web site or any other site I've seen. The extension (50-284) is an extra $113.30.I plan to modify the 50-289 to fit my needs.

In the spec sheet, the max dado width is 15/16".They don't mention that you need a special arbor to cut this dado with - and you can't leave the special arbor on as it will hit the underside of the table for deep angled cuts.

Another complaint I had was that the cast iron extension wings were not perfectly flat.I had the front and back flush, and had a lit in the middle of about two sheets of paper. In the end I was able to flex it mostly flat at the recommendation of the Delta service center.

What has been most frustrating is the customer support on this saw.I've called Delta several times and the person on other end usually says, "Wow, this saw is brand new.I've never heard of it.Let me see what the manual says."On the mobile base, I called specifically to ask if the 50-289 would work - and was told yes.

I plan to keep this saw as I believe it is worth the money and I don't want the hassle or added cost of shipping it back in excange for a true unisaw; I would however stongly recommend getting a unisaw instead of this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic saw at a great price!
Got this saw for Christmas (a few days early).I have a Delta contractors saw that was pretty nice but still not a cabinet saw.Having used a friend's Unisaw off and on for years I was very familiar with the quality. But wow, is this a great saw!

I'm still not sure what, if any, difference there is between this saw and the Unisaw.Everything seems exactly the same to me.The only thing missing is the extension table. You have to build your own for this one.For the several hundred dollars in savings I didn't mind at all.

The saw arrived in good condition and assembled without much trouble. They recommend two people due to the weight but I did it all alone without a lot of trouble. The assembly instructions are simple and easy to follow. They even include extra bolts and screws and the hardware you need to attach the extension table you build. Also include a diagram for building the extension table.

The main table was perfectly flat and nothing required adjustment. The two cast extension wings are both not quite perfectly flat but are so close it doesn't cause any problems.

If you're familiar with Biesmeyer you already know how great their fences are.If not, then you're in for a pleasant surprise.

The only negative I've encountered is the switch location. It just doesn't work where it is and there was no bracket included for moving it out on the fence where it needs to go.I build my own bracket but I assume you can order one from either Delta or Biesmeyer. In any case, this was not enough of an issue to cause me to rate the saw less than five stars.

Plenty of power, precision cuts, and with the addition of an Osborne miter guide this is just the perfect saw for me.

If you're looking for a great price on a truly exceptional piece of equimpment built to last a lifetime, then look no farther. This is it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful machine, mostly
This scroll saw is a pleasure to use. No vibration, quick blade changes for inside cuts, many great features. The stand is sturdy (could use wheels!) and the table top is rock solid.

It lacks a light or any part to which a light could be readily attached. The dust collection nozzle works very well, when hooked up to my collector or shop vac.

My scroll saw arrived missing two bolts to hold a box which protects the wiring. In all, I made seven or eight calls to Delta. They promptly and repeatedly sent me the wrong bolts. Turns out they have no way to keep records of service calls, so you start at the beginning each time. These particular parts are mislabeled at the warehouse, and there is no way to find the right ones.

I finally gave up and taped the circuit box in place. It's a small item, but shows that the Delta customer service operation is in need of a major overhaul. Not the people, necessarily; every one was pleasant and as helpful as possible. But they are hampered by a stone-aged information handling system. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beware, This Thing is BIG
I really didn't realize how big this thing was until I saw the boxes it came in.... This is not really a portable feeder, if you want to use it on your table saw or jointer, you'll have to disassemble it as it weighs about 150 lbs.... It has one of the widest speed ranges on the market (6.5 - 108 fpm) and the four rollers come in handy. The 1hp motor is plenty strong to climb cut. The various linkages will take some getting used to but I managed to figure out all possible combinations. It is a worthy addition to any shaper for safety's sake. Just keep in mind the size of it! ... Read more

Let's face the ugly truth: you spend half an hour sanding something, and then you sneeze. It's horrifying, isn't it? Just imagine what's in your lungs. Delta Shopmaster has come up with the perfect remedy in the AP200 air cleaner. The 1/8-horsepower motor moves 650 cubic feet of air per minute, trapping sawdust, wallboard dust, and other byproducts in its three-pocket inner filter and its disposable, pleated outer filter. Can't make sense of cfm? Here's another way to look at it: the Shopmaster AP200 will clean and recirculate the air in a 20-by-20-by-8-foot room 16 times in one hour. The 50-pound unit has non-marring rubber feet to protect your surfaces and minimize vibration, and it also comes with eyebolts for ceiling suspension in your shop. We think this would be perfect in a home workshop--and for home remodeling jobs, too, because it's so portable. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A great design .....BUT!..........Poor Packing , MDF Junk,
I hate to talk bad about an American company But this product is Junk, South of Boarder, Bargain basement 99cent store junk, Shame on you Delta. The packing for this product,,,,,Oops....What packing........I received mine with damaged corners but the shipping box didn't show any signs of damage,,,,,,Hum. and for Delta a company the make very high quality tools, I am very sad to see a MDF ( fiber board ) table.....Not a multi lam 15 ply type board it should have been made from. But the design it self is great, it folds away with ease and has channels for the miter gauge and blade guard. Delta just got cheap with a product that isn't cheap to buy ,,,,,,,,Just be aware it's function is great the hardware is great, the table...!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Poor packaging
As stated in the previous reviews, in order to try and avoid the damage to the table with improper packaging, I ordered as well from a local woodworking store, hoping they would have better luck. Unforunately, the larger of the two tables in this item was cracked beyond repair when it arrived. The second try came with similar results. The store called Delta and insisted they send the third shipment via FEDEX, which they refused. The third attempt arrived via UPS with minor damage to the bottom and side of the table. The store offered to send it back, but since I needed it for a job and the fourth shipment could be as bad as the last three I accepted the third table.
As stated in another review, I agree, if you have Delta Unisaw, there is no need to cut off 2 1/4" from the smaller table as specified in the instructions. 1/4 to 1/2" is all you need. I mounted the brackets first, and then determined how much I needed to cut.

Overall I am happy with the product other than the shipping problems. It saves valuable shop space when folded.

2-0 out of 5 stars Delta 50-302 Outfeed Table
How can a packing box have no damage and the contents have damaged corners? Mine does and the box is in great condition.

I just got mine and it has damaged corners. Maybe the table is damaged prior to packaging? I will be able to repair but, the price is high for the quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Dented Corners Here
After seeing many reviews containing complaints of damage during delivery and quality issues, I was a bit concerned. Since I've never had a bad experience yet with Amazon.com or Delta, I took the chance. My outfeed table arrived intact with no damage at all and looks to be another quality product from Delta. Based on the extra cardboard protection I found at all four corners, maybe Delta has seen the comments and responded appropriately. With regards to the quality concerns and the use of particle board - this isn't a piece of fine furniture. It's a tool that needs to be true and stay true. When it comes right down to it, it is pretty difficult if not impossible for solid wood to compete with the deminsional stability and trueness of a thick piece of melamine covered high density particle board. $189 seems a bit pricey, but I've learned over the years, the old addage - "you get what you pay for" - rings true more often than not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Table OK, but installation is tricky
I ordered this table to go with a Unisaw left tilt, Besemeyer fence, and Excalibur sliding table. All parts arrived in good shape, and the manual is the usual Delta fare, which is to say a very good manual.

It went together OK, except for a few glitches, mostly due to my particular setup:
1) I had to remove 7 inches from the fixed and folding tables to accomodate my sliding table. It was easy enough to cut, but I sort of hated the waste.
2) The initial attachment to the table saw requires patience and a flexible body, both of which have escaped me. You have to reach inside the saw body to hold a metal plate that you then screw into place from the outside. I recommend that you have a helper on hand for this step.
3) As mentioned in other reviews, the folding portion of the table interferes with a dust collection hose. Since I don't plan to fold down the table, this wasn't a problem for me.

Unless you need the folding feature, you may be better off with building a table to the exact dimensions you need. But if space is a problem, this table will do the job well. ... Read more

Whether you'll use it mainly for resawing or for creative curved cuts, you'll appreciate everything about this workhorse band saw from its rock-solid construction to its micrometer adjustment for ball bearing blade support and the blade guide blocks that assure absolute accuracy. The cast-iron table is a generous 16 by 16 inches and easily tilts 45 degrees right and 9 degrees left for bevel cuts. The max cut capacity is 6-1/4-inch thick, and even at that, with the 1-1/2 hp motor, you won't experience any bogging. Blade change, the least favorite job of band-saw owners, is really not so bad: There's a side take-out slot for the blade, and you won't even have to remove the rip fence guide rails when you're changing blades. We're impressed, too, with the Veri-Set quick-index tensioning system, designed to get you back to cutting wood and not fumbling with blade tension. Cutting brass, then steel? The multi-step pulley makes it a snap to change speeds for different materials. We didn't hook up the press to a dust-collection system, so we can't vouch for how well the integral port pulls sawdust, but the rest of its features would make any woodworker happy.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Wow! What an amazing dust hose adapter. You wouldn't believe this thing. Attach it to your planer and watch the wood chips just fly down the little black hose. You can't actually see the wood chips because it is opaque, but they do go through the hose, believe me. Don't believe me, just buy one and connect it to your planer and then check the bucket on your dust collector. Yup, piles of wood chips and sawdust, just like I told ya'. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

What a beauty. If Gustav Stickley had had Delta's MM300 Shopmastermortising machine, imagine how much more furniture he would have built! This unitrequires some assembly, but the instructions are concise and the photos are extremelyclear and helpful. You'll love this machine for its quiet 1/2-horsepower motor thatdelivers 1,725 rpm. We especially like this mortiser because the body swings 180degrees, allowing you to work on larger pieces off the table. A rack-and-pinionmechanism raises the head easily and smoothly, and the long lever handle plunges the bitlike a dream. It's heavy for a benchtop model, but we appreciate the way the weight addsto the tool's stability. It's always fun to be able to use a tool right out of the box, andDelta's made sure you can get started right away with 1/4-, 5/16-, 3/8-, and 1/2-inchchisel and bit sets. Beats a drill and hand chisel any day! Woodworkers looking for alarge cast-iron table and gas-filled head stabilizer should consider Delta's Industrialmodel 14-651. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Preliminary review....
I just last week received the mortiser, put it together. The instructions were clear, only took a few minutes to assemble. I was surprised at the quality. The quality of Delta products (and Jet) varies wildly. I got a good one, it seems. I punched a dozen holes with each of the chisels in some mahogany scrap I had lying around, all were quite satisfactory. I haven't tried it yet on any of the hard maple or oak I usually work with. I'll report back later if I have any problems. Menards wanted another [money]for their Jet model, without chisels. A set of 5 chisels is [money]. The Jet I checked out in the store wasn't fit for use, sloppy dovetail, sticky slide. Be sure to get the preservative grease off the dovetail and gears, and grease it all before you use it. So far, I'm having fun drilling square holes!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great little machine.
If you've ever drilled and chiseled mortises by hand you'll love the MM300, it gets the job done, quickly. The Delta is solidly put together with plenty of power for deep mortises. Assembly is simple, no surprises, set up also without a hitch. If the MM300 has a weak spot it would be the fence. It doesn't hold as well at times as I would like for it to, a trait not uncommon in mortisers in this price range. Overall a great little machine for the money, one that I would recommend to anyone. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works exactly as advertised.
When this unit is used properly, dry wheel for grinding and wet wheel for honing, this tool does a more than adequate job. When honing, using the entire wheel by sliding the blade across the surface using using moderate to moderately strong, even pressure eliminates the need for frequent dressing. Cleaning could be easier and the guide could stand some improvement, but overall this is a very good tool, especially considering the price. I got what I paid for.

1-0 out of 5 stars I expected much better from Delta
I havd owned this grinder for about six months and I am ready to throw it in the trash. To start with, the wheel is too soft and requires frequent trueing. This is particually a problem when you have to stop and true while working on a blade because it changes the grinding angle. The rpm's are too slow. With soft wheel and the low rmp's it can take over a hour to grind a blade. Cleaning up is also a problem. You have to take the wheel well off to clean out the residue of the wheel, which is considerable because the wheel is so soft.

I can turly say I can find nothing redeeming about this tool!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, Not Great
I've had the Delta for over a year now and am a little disapointed w/ the grinder. As in the other reviews, the wet wheel is very soft, and in the year of avg to light use, the 10" wheel is now probably around 7" (or less). You MUST dress the wet wheel frequently or else end up with a pretty severe oval (trust me on this one!). The dry wheel wasn't bad but I did need to add the Veritas Grinder Tool Rest to make it really useful. Plus, you will need a good set of stones (I prefer water) to truely hone your edge.

In hind site, I would rather have bought a regular Bench Grinder (i.e. Baldor). You have much more flexability in the type of wheels that you can get for grinding (shaped, silicon carbide, felt, leather, ...) unlike the 2 stones here.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK - Does the Job
I purchased this grinder because the other choices of wet grinders were way too expensive. I mainly use the 10 inch wet wheel to sharpen my woodturning tools. The tool rest is quite cheesy, and Delta does not make a jig to help you sharpen woodturning tools. The wheel itself is quite soft and you will probably have to true it up after every gouge you grind. I agree with one of the other reviews that the drain plug is too small, but its a good grinder for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Small Tools and Plane Blades
This was a great investment for me. I did not want to pay allot for a sharpner for my hand tools. This unit look like a good alternative to those more expensive units and it was. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a durable product
Ditto all the other comments about these knives chipping very easily. I got several chips in both knives after running through only about 20 bf of poplar - and the lumber was clean and clear (already s4s). So, the "sand" excuse just doesn't cut it. Something just seems to be wrong with the design or materials used in the manufacture of these knives. And because this problem has spanned quite a period of time and has been reported from many locations, I doubt it's simply a problem with a specific production run. Trying to find alternatives (Infinity?) and if anyone else does, please post!

1-0 out of 5 stars Really short lived blades
Other reviewers have questioned if these blades are made from butter. I'd say that's a fine analogy. You'll be lucky to get 30 board feet out of each side before they chip. I called Delta and their comment was there might have been some sand on the boards I was working. Let me up. Hopefully Freud or someone is watching and will made a decent blade for this planer that will last. If not, be sure to order them by the gross... you'll need them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Knives made of butter?
I'm beginning to think the knives are made of butter. Initially they cut great. Glassy smooth, mirror finish, etc. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to last very long. With my very first set of knives I was planing some 13" Maple. The most I could take off without the machine almost stopping was 1/128". That's a far cry from the 1/16" bragged about on their website. It only took a couple of passes before the knives turned to garbage. I'm now on my second set of knives. I planed 40 board feet of Cherry for a project and they're already dull with a large nick in the blade (perceivably from a tiny knot in one of the boards). I already have to turn them over now. At this rate it's costing me $20 every project just to plane my stock. The knives cut softwoods great. They cut hardwoods great for a few boards. Then you might as well be using your belt sander. I'm definitely going to upgrade to a different planer if these are the only knives available.

3-0 out of 5 stars After 20 hours use drive belt broke & damaged housing.
The planer does excellant job, but one side of blade lasted about 7 hours of planing white oak. Main drive belt shredded and damaged its housing. Have to return to service center for warranty replacement. Based on previous experience with delta/porter cable service center can expect machine to be out of service for a month. Replacing this part is not discussed in owner's manual. Manual does not provide blow up of parts or identify parts by part nos.

2-0 out of 5 stars knives 13 inch

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent basic turning set
I bought this set to replace the tools when I sold my Shopsmith. I have lathe chisels made by Sorby, Henry Taylor, Woodcraft, and Delta. I use the Delta for the majority of my turnings, mainly pens. These are High Speed Steel tools with excellent handles. I sharpen them on a Delta vertical water cooled sharpener. They hold their edge as well as any of the others. They are definately NOT Carbon Steel as the previous reviewer claims. I have been very pleased with these tools and would recommend them to anyone doing spindle turning.

1-0 out of 5 stars The tools seem to be of carbon steel.
Carbon steel for lathe tools have be mostly replaced by high speed steel. Carbon steel needs to much more frequently sharpened. Sharpening carbon steel on a high speed (greater than about 400 rpm) grinder is very tricky. Is is very easy to overheat the carbon steel and ruin its hardness. Amazon.com should consider adding high speed steel turning tools to it's tool selection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Delta Base for Craftsman 10" Table Saw - excellent
Beautifully designed, simple to set up, this mobile base is strong and maneuvers nicely. Had I known how great this is and the mobility it provides, I would have ordered it years ago.
Took less than 5 minutes to assemble, (one bolt) then was able to tilt my HEAVY saw (without assistance) to place the Delta mobile base under the feet of the table legs.
One observation... the foot pedal will stay in the "roll" position ONLY after the saw is on the base. Hard to believe how they did this and just how simple and effective this unit is.
Looked at the Rigid unit in Home Depot - very happy I decided on the Delta.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simplicity
I bought this for my Powermatic 64A 10" Table Saw and it fits perfectly. Mine has a foot pedal instead of the bar, but I like the foot pedal ok. The 3 wheel design with a single raise/lower mechanism and outriggers to level is so simple. That's what won me over from the HTC and Powermatic mobile bases. The HTC has 2 pedals, which is unnecesary (they also look weak), and the Powermatic requires you to lock down brakes on individual wheels, and the castor could still swivel, just silly. I would highly recommend this mobile base. A small hint to install, loosen all the bolts on the table saw stand so that it can "walk", then lift each corner pulling (or pushing) the leg out (or in). I had mine installed in 5 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent bargain for the money
I bought this rolling stand for my new Delta Platinum Edition Contractor's saw. Putting the thing together only took a few minutes as the product is welded together. The construction on my stand was perfect, each welded seam showed no defects. The only thing you have to do is put the wheel locking mechanism on.

The wheel set moves easily and was simple to level. I would suggest having a second person available to help lift the saw into place.

If you are planning to buy the extension kit, wait until you have both this set and the wheel set opened. You will have to use the long wheel retraction lever in order to properly operate the wheel base. It is located in the extension kit box only. ... Read more

Reviews (1)

3-0 out of 5 stars Consider others before you buy...
I purchased this tool at a special price during a sale. There was also a rebate on it at the time. So I bought...

The shaper is good quality and I've had no problems with it. Delta offers accessory spindles from .5 in. to 1.25" as well as a spindle to allow use of 1/2" router bits. They are overpriced...

The fence system is good quality but I don't care for the design. It looks cool... Delta has incorporated a system of hold-downs into the fence that look pretty but aren't terribly functional. I would prefer the simpler wood fence with the spring hold-downs. The micro-adjustment is nice.

Overall, 3 stars... The shaper works well and is a nice tool. The fence is not a good as it looks. In my opinion, there are better values to be had from other manufacturers. ... Read more
