4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for hollow grinding
The unlisted dimensions are 12 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches deep by 6 inches high. It was slightly larger than I expected. The wheel is very absorbant so water can be added slowly to the wheel itself even while it runs. This is not a common grinder but is a sharpener and requires patience and some skill. It makes an excellent hollow grind as described in another review. It does not cut quickly. The tool posts could be sturdier. The allen wrench fits the screw heads rather sloppily. These two points are why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Amazon.com had the best price anywhere with free shipping. It was well worth the money. I am very happy with this tool.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT UP TO DELTA STANDARDS
I bought this for one thing, sharping knifes. I tried to use it according to instructions. First off the water on a flat surface ran out the drain. Thinking I had too much water,I went ahead and started to sharpen a knife. Part of the wheel was not even getting wet? I can't think why if it had water running out the drain on a level surface why it didn't cover the entire surface of the wheel.Next it doesn't seem to have enough speed or power to sharpen anything! I did want the slower speed than a regular grinder and the wet wheel. But took it back as a loss cause. I have several Delta tools that are very good ,but I cannot rate this tool as a good one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful tool
I found one of these at my local home supply store and immediatly brought it home. I found it to be very useful for putting a hollow grind into the bevel of my chisels and plane blades.

The way I use it is to hollow grind the chisel bevel until the hollow grind goes all across the bevel. I then take the chisel to a 4000/1000 combination water stone and sharpen the bevel on the 1000 grit until I get two "flats" on the tip and tail of the bevel. I then switch to the 4000 grit of the stone and polish those bevels. On a 1/2" wide chisel it takes about a minute or two to hollow grind the bevel and another 30 seconds on each grit of the stone to make the chisel razor sharp.

The grinder has two tool rest. I set one for my chisels and one for the plane blade. Because the grinder has a forward and reverse direction I can use both tool rest.

I have found it a good idea to put a towel behind the grinder to catch any water overflow (it is a wet grinder). Also, the metal grindings from your tool combined with the water have turned the wheel a rust brown. But I've not found that to have any effect on the grinding ability.

I'm glad I bought it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you're into turning, you'll love this lathe. Its 16-inch steel-bed design is 20 times more torsionally stable than the traditional cast-iron bed, and with 42 inches between centers, it offers all the work room you could want. The head spindle lock is a great design--rugged yet easy to use--and has a 24-division indexer for ornamental work. The cast-iron tool rest is a full 12 inches long, and its base travels smoothly on the ground bed for the widest range of tool placement. Powering the whole thing is the big-name Baldor 1-1/2-horsepower motor and Poly-V belt for maximum torque and minimum vibration. Delta has thought of everything with this model--the steel-tube construction offers additional stability because the feet will accommodate four-by-four lumber for a bigger footprint and safer turning on large workpieces. There are even brackets below the bed so you can add a shelf if you'd like. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

Features

  • Two-year limited warranty on machines, parts, and accessories
  • Variable frequency Baldor motor provides three speed ranges from 0 to 3,200 rpm
  • Steel bed has 20 times the stiffnes of cast iron beds
  • Cast iron head stock for vibration resistance
  • Heavy-duty steel legs have built-in shelf mounting brackets and accept 4-by-4 extensions and ballast for more stability

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Lathe for the price
I've had this lathe now for 10 months I have made all kinds of things on it. This machine is a serious work horse. I have not had any problems with it at all. If you are looking for a true value this machine has it all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent smoothness and stability
I would definately recommend this lathe to anyone but production woodturners. It's very smooth, especially after filling the hollow legs with sand. It has a much beefier spindle than the smaller Delta, which is a major consideration if you are turning larger bowls. As a matter of fact, I bought this lathe after killing the headstock on my smaller delta lathe doing just that. The Baldor motor and DC controls are very nice also.

My only qualm is with the control stalk. Due to it's position, it both picks up dust and is in the firing line for items that shatter while the lathe is at speed. Luckily it seems fairly beefy, as it withstood a large chunk of cherry at 1800 RPMs. Otherwise, this lathe is fantastic for the price. I'm very happy with mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent stability and control
I recently upgraded from the Delta 46-700, and there is no comparison. To start with, the stand is very well built, and very rigid. The legs are hollow, and easily filled with sand. The stability was good before, but now I get almost no vibration, even when turning large bowls.

The spindle is also much beefier than the smaller model. I managed to warp the spindle on the 46-700 by turning a large Ash bowl. I doubt I could warp the spindle on this if I bashed it with a sledge.

The DC motor and controls are very good. The only flaw I've seen is that my controls occasionally go into fault mode for no noticeable reason. The only way I've found to clear it is to kill the power and restart it. This only seems to happen with the drive is stopped, so it hasn't been a big problem for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars This lathe is no toy!!!!!
After buying all the shop equipment I needed to outfit my wood shop I set my thoughts on a lathe. I did research and found one very important factor when choosing a lathe, don't go cheep! I choose the Delta 46-745, and I'm so glad I did. The baldor motor is the finest in the industry, and the control you have over speed is fantastic. The other great feature is low to no vibration, Delta even gives tips on totally eliminating vibration by either, filling
the legs with sand or the ability to use 4x4's to widen the lathes foot print or secure the lathe to the floor. This lathe is both smooth and very powerful, everything is accesable and very easy to setup, all tooling has it's place in the leg tops and the control box is right at eye level. This lathe is now my favorite machine in my shop!! You have to have one of these bad boys!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Lathe but I question the longevity of the Controls
Lathe is very nice and works very well. Fit and finish is good as well as ease of assembly. My concern is that the electronic speed control is mounted where two things can happen:

Debris can damage it because of location if something comes off the lathe.

Dust is going to keep the electronics coated continuously due to location and large vent holes in side of control. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resaw Blade
This is not the best resaw blade I have used with the Jet 14" bandsaw, but it is also not the most expensive one I have used. For the price, it is a very good blade and the blade sharpness has held up fine cutting 6" thick oak, cherry, ash and walnut.

The 4 teeth per inch gives fast and efficient resaw speed, the blade holds the line and very little finish sanding is required. For the money, it is a decent blade. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A versatile all-in-one machine, this 4-inch belt sander lies horizontally for edge- and face-sanding without the runaway effort of a handheld belt sander, thanks to the sturdy, adjustable, and removable backstop. Or position the belt vertically (or at any angle between 0 and 90 degrees) for contour, bevel, and chamfer sanding--the tables on both sanders tilt to 45 degrees. Use the miter gauge, and you're able to sand in compound angles. The belt sands 2,000 surface feet per minute, and the disc rotates at 3,100 rpm for serious stock removal. A die-cast aluminum base offers stability at a remarkably spare 33 pounds. Predrilled base holes make mounting a simple task. Delta even provided a built-in 2-1/4-inch dust port for connection to a shop vacuum to keep your workshop air clean. Sure, handheld sanders have their place in a woodworker's shop, but add this to your collection and you won't know how you ever got along without it. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD VALUE
I recently purchased this product. I found the manual to be well thought out and easy to follow. Assembly was straight forward and easy. The unit seems to be fairly well constructed for its size and intended purpose. My only complaint is with the belt which has an overlap seam and can cause considerable thumping in some applications. I would definately reccommend this product for small projects. However, be sure to check everyone's price, as I found one seller to have a price considerably below everyone elses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super home shop machine
This is an excellent tool for anything short of production woodwork. One friend uses his in a full-time luthier's shop, making and repairing violins and other stringed instruments, and he's as happy with it as he's been with any tool.

I've only found one small sander I like better- a slightly more expensive Ryobi with a belt that tilts vertically. But other than that there's not much to choose from between the two. An excellent value, and of course Delta's warranty and service in first rate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent for the cost
I am 14 all most fifteen and have a dream of having a really big wood working shop and got this 4"belt 6" disc sander for xmas. I have used it a fair amount for halping my brother with cub scouts pine wood derby and have been very pleased, so has my father. The only complante is that the disc has come dis ingaged from the moter thougth still spins with no torque. This my have been my own falt in any case buy it, and not expect top of the line preformense out of it. You get what you pay for. A exellent buy. Suggestion buy a large assortment of belt and discs of diferent grits.

2-0 out of 5 stars Katherine is my wife, Bruce is writing:
Two stars, hey this is a cheap tool. If you buy it and plan on doing any work with it, get ready to adjust then adjust the other way, they just when you think you have it, adjust again.
And if that isn't enough, watch the belt dig into the plastic housing as it begins to fray. That's the only way it'll run steady. We had this machine at school and when the belt ran out against the dust housing too long it severed the plastic collector from together to part. I love having a stationary belt sander. I used to clamp my porter cable in my vise to have a sander, but bought the Delta 4 inch. We had motor failure at work on another, and belt problems on the plastic open gear drive. Well, now that I think of it, this really rates only one star. Buy a real machine, this is almost the toy variety, come on Delta, remodel this thing we don't mind paying a little more.

4-0 out of 5 stars good entry level sander
I recently bought the 31-460, and do not see any changes for the newer model. Overall, it is a good unit for the ... price, in my opinion. I don't have a need for a more expensive, higher quality sander, so this one is fine for me.

The table assembly is a little weak, but will be stable enough for the projects I do. I shopped around a little and was more impressed with this unit than the cheaper Craftsman units. Most of them had smaller belts, or you could not adjust the belt to an angle or vertical position.

I have several Delta tools, even bought some reconditioned units and have gotten great customer service from them. Overall, A+. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good drill press
I've had this drill press for about a week now, so this is a fairly brief review. I bought this particular version from a local large home supply establishment. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

I carried it home in a VW New Beetle, so it's a manageable package. It came well packed in a sturdy cardboard box lined with foam. I and took it downstairs in pieces, since the whole box is near 180 pounds. It assembled quickly. There are really only 4 parts; the base, the support post, the table, and the motor and belt head. The hardest part was cleaning off the packing grease -- I used kerosene -- and then waxing all the bare metal parts with paste wax.

I measured the runout with my admittedly less than high quality dial indicator and a spare mill bit in the chuck and came out with around .0018" I haven't done any real heavy cleaning of the chuck assembly so there could be some grit or packing gunk inside.

Speed changes are easy by moving a small lever and loosening a thumbscrew. The only thing I'm less than completely happy with is the table assembly. It uses a rack and pinion to raise and lower the table. The rack is held against the post by just a ring up top and it fits into the base at the bottom. There is no support along the length of the rack so there ends up being quite a bit of play in the middle of rack where it sags out away from the post. As a warning to overly harsh treatment, the rack on the display model at the store was severly bent. Also to angle the table, you have to get under it and pull a pin. I haven't tried that yet, but it could have been made easier.

I did try angling the table last night. To me it's a pain, but I don't know how common this method is. You have to remove the pin, which comes out with the use of a wrench, and then loosen a big bolt that holds the table. The bolt is hard to get to being between a couple of reinforcement webs and is large. I think it's a metric just smaller than 15/16". I used a 15/16" socket and it was a little loose, while 7/8" was too small and I don't have a 31/32" wrench to try and my metrics only go up to 17mm. I did see a quick release bolt in another catalog for drill presses that might work. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The TS300 sits at the top of Delta's Shopmaster line of table saws and is designed with intermediate woodworkers and serious home do-it-yourselfers in mind. A 15 amp motor spins the blade at 5,500 rpm, providing plenty of power for working with hardwoods. The TS300 has a 22-1/4-by-20-3/8-inch cast-iron table and two steel extension wings, offering plenty of table space, and a 27-inch rip capacity to the right of the blade--more than enough to rip full sheets of plywood in half. (Try that with your average benchtop saw and see how it works.) You can also cut dados (up to 13/16 inch) with this saw, or perform molding operations with a cutterhead accessory. We like the T-square fence on this saw; it's hard to find a fence as reliably accurate in this price range. This saw also come with a good miter gauge for use in crosscutting operations. While the TS300 will provide more than enough saw for home users and intermediate woodworkers, professionals will want to consider a step up to one of Delta's industrial contractor saws. --Brian Trinen ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I wanted.
I didnt like my craftsman saw, because of it was so light, the blade had about 3/16'' runout and alot small things were plain junky on it. I decided to upgrade to this delta saw. I didnt like what i got.

The blade wobbled with about 1/16'' runout wich isnt good. The motor is very loud. I tried to cross cut a peice of walnut 1'' thick, and 2'' wide and i could hear the motor stalling out on me. If you plan to just cut 3/4 pine, or plywood its an ok saw. If you buld furniture, it wont cut it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good choice for the price.
I purchased this saw as an emergency replacement one night. Paid $271 at Lowes. I feel I got my moneys worth from this purchase. Many saws I looked at were much cheaper feeling for more money. I rate this saw as a homeowner model, its really too weak for every day use. It will just pull my 8" dado, you have to go slow. It rips 1x4"s well and thats what I cut the most. Overall its a great saw for what you get if its $300 or less. It did better than expected. I actually got the fence to square up on the first try. The best low priced saw I've seen.

4-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
This is the first tablesaw I have ever used, let alone owned. I expect I will be using it for an occasional home project - nothing anywhere close to daily. Having said that, here are my initial impressions.

The saw arrived yesterday, and it took me most of this morning to put it together. Most of the time was spent calibrating and leveling the table and blade. The instructions were generally very useful and clearly diagrammed which of the multitude of bolts, washers, etc., should be used in each step. I did notice a number of confusing typos, though, so it should be read with an open mind!

Once assembled, the saw seemed to cut very smoothly. The cast iron tabletop gives the saw a solid feel, and there is no noticeable vibration in the table. I've cut both pine and oak in varying thicknesses and so far, so good.

By the way - Amazon is currently listing this saw for $400. Lowes has it for about $300, but you can get Amazon to price-match for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Saw at a Great Price
This tablesaw is a great leap forward for those who own a inexpensive entry level tablesaw. The cast iron table coupled with a sturdy leg system give you great stability for almost any work. While this is still for the home hobbyist or do it yourself user it is in my opinion at the top end of those saw for those users. At $300 (which is all you should be paying for it) it is an excellent value!

3-0 out of 5 stars OK for Price But Underpowered
I've had this tablesaw for approximately one year. I use it at least once per week for home improvement/repair and furniture making. The two main factors that brought me to my ultimate purchase of this saw was that it had a T-slot for the mitre gauge and the price (a local home center sells it for less than Amazon).
Here what I've found;
Table
The table is flat, although I spent several hours sanding the top to remove the machining grooves.
Blade Adjustments
The blade was parallel with the mitre slots right out of the box.
Tilt stop at 90 deg was out of calibration but easily fixed.
Tilt stop at 45 deg was right on.
Fence
The supplied fence is in two parts (to allow it to fit in the box) At first I was dissapointed, but the guide rail is continuous to the right side of the blade. Most of my use of the fence is to the right of the blade so the two piece fence has not been a concern. Calibration of the fence was fairly easy, about ten minutes. Fence design has a tray that collects dust. The dust and shavings that sit in the tray can alter the calibration of the fence. I have to clean the fence tray before every adjustment.
Table Wings
The table wings are made of stamped steel and impossible to adjust the whole wing to be on the same plane as the cast iron table top. I opted to align the bolted edge level with the table and the opposing sides taper down slightly.
Blade Guard
This safety items is very hard to install in the same plane as the blade. It needs frequent adjustment to stay aligned. When mis-aligned, it actually becomes a safety issue. I have uninstalled my guard.
Motor
The universal 15 amp motor is approximately the same size as found in a standard quality circular saw. The main tasks that circular saws perform are cutting 2 by X pine material and 3/4 in plywood. This motor, with a professional quality blade (Freud), is at it's max limit doing these tasks. In fact, just crosscutting a 2x4 with a brand new professional crosscut blade slows the motor considerably. Univeral motors are very loud making this saw a noise disturbance in the house. I might be able to get away with some later night woodworking with a quieter saw. You will definitely need hearing protection as you would with any tablesaw.
Throat plate
The throat plate on this saw is of thin steel with two rubber washers to "adjust" height. It is impossible to get the throat plate on the same plane front and back with the table. To make my own zero clearance throat plate, I have the rout a 1/2 MDF board to 3/32 around the rim and then rout two "shelves" 11/32 from the surface for the mounting screws. I wish Delta would have made the initial lip depth 1/4 in to accept a home-made hardboard insert.
Blade
The supplied blade is a general purpose blade that is OK for rough cuts. I suggest you purchase a new blade that will easy the burden on the motor and give a cleaner cut.
Stand
The stand is very sturdy and sits level on the floor.

My conclusions
For the price, this tablesaw can be of use to the homeowner who will use it infrequently to accurately cut 2 by stock and plywood. If you will be using this saw to do frequent work or , like me, intend to cut stock of a higher density than pine (like oak, maple, cherry, etc) I suggest you look for a saw that has much more horsepower. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to setup and get started.
I was hesitant to buy this item after reading one of the other reviews regarding how difficult the setup was due to bolts and fasteners being tapped poorly or wrong. I have to say the setup took me 5 minutes. There were 6 small bolts, and 4 threaded knobs. Everything went together just fine, and the whole thing took about 5 minutes. I purchased this model over others because of the variable speed option and the sharpening wheel. I had a tough time justifying the added expense for the variable speed, but feel it will be worth it in the long run. A $30 premium for that feature seems a bit steep. I plan to use it to sharpen my mower blades, chisels, and general shop cleaning, polishing, and sharpening. It should be fine for the moderate use I plan. I would have gone for the DeWalt if I felt I would be using it for heavy duty or commercial type use. Nice overall, but the price premium is what takes away the 5th star.

2-0 out of 5 stars Grinder variable speed lasted 10 days.
I just bought a new lathe and needed a grinder to sharpen the wood turning tools. I picked this grinder for cost and features. I liked the variable speed. The light on the grinder is a big plus. The grinder came undamaged and the joy to use until about the third time I turned it on. The variable speed control stopped working. The grinder was stuck at its top speed. I returned it and got my money back. I have a few Delta tools in my shop and haven't had too many issues with them.

4-0 out of 5 stars New into tools
I ordered this from amazon and it arrived promptly and i am satisfied up to this point. I didn't realize the many uses it has and have found that a decent grinder is a must have in any shop. I know a lot people find the "shopmaster" to be of less quality but some of my power tools such as a compressor i picked up at lowes has performed well for my pneumatic tools and the line is still a good product to own. I am new at woodworking and can't say i have owned many different brands of tools. I do have some delta industrial tools as well and both the shopmaster and inustrial line have performed well. I also own the gr050 wet/dry grinder and it has been useful as well. Depending on your purpose this grinder is a fine edition but if you need a more industrial grinder look to their delta industrial line or other brands. All in all i am satisfied with its performance. Price and speed of delivery were excellent.
thanks

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD GRINDER , AWFUL TOOLRESTS !
I JUST RECEIVED MY NEW GRINDER AND AFTER AN HOUR OF ASSEMBLY AND A VISIT TO THE HARDWARE STORE I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY USE IT . BOTH THREADED HOLES FOR THE SPARK SHIELDS WERE NOT THREADED CORRECTLY AND HAD TO RETAPPED TO ACCEPT THE BOLTS THAT WERE ALSO POORLY THREADED WHICH I ENDED UP REPLACING . I KNOW DELTA IS TRYING TO BE COST EFFICIENT IN SELLING TOOLS THAT REQUIRE SOME ASSEMBLY BUT I THINK IT WOULD TAKE LONGER TO WRAP EACH PART IN ITS INDIVIDUAL BAG THEN ACTUALLY SCREWING IT ON TO THE MACHINE .
UPON USING THE GRINDER , I FOUND THE MACHINE TO BE WELL BALANCED AND QUIET . THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS THE TOOLREST FOR THE SLOW WHITE WHEEL HAS A HUGE SKEWED RECCESS IN IT TO ALLOW FOR DRILL BIT SHARPENING . THIS UNEVEN AREA PREVENTS YOU FROM HOLDING A CHISEL FLAT ON THE REST AND THE WHEEL AND HAS A TENDENCY FOR THE TOOL TO FALL IN THE SLOT . TOO MUCH ENGINEERING AND NOT ANY PRACTICAL THINKING .OVERALL , A GOOD TOOL , GOOD WHEELS, AND THE VARIABLE SPEED MAKES IT WORTH BUYING ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does what it says it will do
The clamp goes on well and holds on to material securely. The only draw back is that the size that will fit in the miter clamp is limited by the rails securing the hold down. Really not a flaw, just an inconvenience. Amazing how Delta stuff fits so well on Delta products. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible blades
As with most of Delta's band saw blades - these are terrible. They do not track well and dull easily. If you are a cheapskate like I am and don't want to spend more money for several blades, then give up and buy one premium blade such as a "Timber Wolf" instead. You'll be glad you did. They track extremely well on much lower tension settings. You won't believe the positive difference they make. ... Read more
