5-0 out of 5 stars Just about a perfect package
After 13 years, I decided it was time to upgrade from my Ryobi BT3000. After much research, and fondling every brand I could get my hands on, I bought this saw package from Amazon.

I could not be happier with the result. The basic DW746 saw plus the sliding table and super trick miter gage and cast iron extension wing make a package nobody else can touch for price and features. This saw is quiet, vibration free and as powerful as you can get from a 110 volt motor. I don't have a machinist's
ruler to gage table flatness, but I do have a Lie Neilsen #7 jointer plane that is dead nuts flat, and setting the plane tilted on edge on the table shows the table flat in all directions within .005".

Be advised this saw does not fall into my defininition of portable. It's one heavy puppy. It took two of us to wrestle the basic saw down to the basement. I was able to get the cast iron extension on by myself, but I could not even pick up the sliding table by myself, much less install it on the table.

Also, this package comes with instructions for putting the basic saw together, and separate instructions for putting on the sliding table. DO NOT start with the instructions for putting the basic saw together like I did. After I spent three hours getting the front and rear rails on and level, I had to completely disassemble EVERYTHING because the sliding table has a bunch of parts that must go on first. If you begin assembly following the instructions for installing the sliding table, you will get it right the first time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't live without this in your shop!
I have owned this planer for a couple of years now and must say it has been a life saver. It has tons of power, nothing slows this beast down. The front knob is very convenient for adjusting the depth from 1/32 to 3/32. Remember the knob is for balance not steering.

I have used this to widen rough-ins for doors and windows. I recently had a framer build a soffit too low. I used this planer to raise the soffit 1/2". This would have been an impossible job without this tool. I have also use this on doors that drag on carpet. One or two swipes and your door is swinging freely. There are a million applications for this thing. Of course a very popular use for this tool is to fix studs before hanging drywall. What an easy way to eliminate high points on a stud or a joyce.

Another nice feature is a small plastic clip that drops down from the back of the planer. That way when this thing is spooling down you can lay down the tool and the spinning blade won't catch on the surface and take off across the room.

There are some tools that are nice to have and some that are a must have. How many times have you needed to remove some wood, but you don't want to chisel it off and ruin the entire piece? With the precised depth adjustment you can make a beautiful plane cut and save your project. This is a must have tool. This tool has saved the day a number of times. I would highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dw680K
Moderate weight, easy adjustable depth setting, plenty of power to get the job done right.

3-0 out of 5 stars Several things to be aware of
This tool is powerful and does a good job. However, there are several things that I consider design flaws.

First, the depth adjustment is also the front knob/handle. It may just be me, but after a little bit of use I tend to knock the depth off a bit because of the way I'm holding the tool. It should have a way of locking in the depth.

Second, the power cord comes straight out of the back. It always seems to get caught on the end of the board. If it came out the side or at an angle this would happen less often.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Any Woodworker!
If you're into serious woodworking, you gotta get one of these Bad Boys! So far I've used it for smoothing out rough boards, joining, trimming down doors, and even stripped off paint from an old deck. It truly is a wonderful tool to use. Also, in the instruction manual it mentions that you should fasten a piece of scrap wood to the end of your workpiece before planing. They're not kidding! This baby will rip out a major chunk of wood from the end of your workpiece if you don't! So long as you attach a piece of scrap wood, it should work perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tool I thought I could live without
This is one of the most useful power tools I have ever bought. I have used it to perfectly trim doors and moldings, strip paint off of old redwood fence posts to make them look new, adjust cabinet shelves for a perfect fit, etc. etc.

I used to dread planing with a hand planer. It never was easy and results were less than perfect. This machine changes all of that. It is so fast and easy. Results are professional. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality Generator.
This Dewalt generator is ,without question, one of the nicest on the market. It's level of design, preformance and finish is the best available today. I have used many generators, from various manufactures and I would say that this Dewant unit compares with the super-duty,heavy construction, units I've used. You can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Little Generator I Have Seen (In a class of its own)
As always, DeWalt exceeded my expectations. This gem arrived in perfect condition. Once I had completed assembly and added oil and fuel, I gave a very light tug on the rope to get a feel for how much resistance it would offer. It started! Have only had it a few weeks, but it works just as advertised. The automatic idle is a very nice feature which really keeps noise down when there is no load. Note - be sure to follow instructions, since the generator is shipped without oil. If you like to jump ahead, do not put in fuel or oil before assembling wheels and lifting hook. ... Read more

This is a BOSS compressor. The 8 hp Honda engine fills the 17 gallon tank in a few minutes. Then it goes to a low idle. Both compressor and engine come ready to go. Just add gas and pull the cord. Amazon.com Review

In recent years, rotary cutout tools have soared in popularity, due mainly to a series of television infomercials promoting one brand. Though it doesn't receive the TV airplay of its main competitor, this DeWalt model uses a durable 5 amp motor--the most powerful motor yet in a cutout tool--making it a great tool for professional drywallers, electricians, and carpenters. To help battle dust infiltration, the tool features a sealed motor and switch, a must for any serious drywall tool. It also sports a quick-and-easy, tool-free bit-changing system and comes with both 1/8 and 1/4 inch collets. We really like the bump-off switch for quick tool shutdown and the simple and effective tool-free depth adjustments. Like other rotary cutout tools, this one uses spiral cutting bits, which work equally well plunging into a cut as they do laterally. In our test we found the DeWalt to be smooth running with low vibration. We had no problem plunging and cutting through 1-1/2 inches of solid birch, whizzing through drywall, and tearing through tile. In fact, this tool has more power than you'd expect from something of its size, and if you aren't paying attention, it can get away from you--an easier to live with problem than lack of power. Some extraordinary claims have been made about rotary cutout tools, and while DeWalt's cutout tool is as versatile as any we've tried, and a bit more powerful than most, it's most effective at what it was designed for--quick cutouts in drywall, tile, and plywood. --Brian Trinen ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Possibly useful for certain applications.
I bought the Dewalt Dw660sk cut out tool for a home improvement project that involved cutting a rectangular "hole"in a cement board ceiling to run a ventilation duct, and cutting openings in a kitchen cabinet so that the duct would run through the cabinet, through the ceiling and out through the roof. After removing the packaging material on this product, the first thing I noticed was the huge black plastic case this tool came in. The build quality of the case was very good. It is solid, has steel clasps, and a fair amount of room inside for the tool, handle, circle cutter attachment and various bits. The build quality of the tool itself was excellent. Its body is constructed of sturdy yellow plastic, the seams line up, the fit and finish were perfect. Even the stickers and decals were put on straight.
That might sound like a small detail to bring up, but I feel it demonstrates the care that went into assembling this tool. Some tool manufactures, like Porter Cable, seem to haphazardly "slap" on their decals and stickers and it makes you wonder how carefully the tool was assembled. This tool also has a certain heft to it, no doubt because of the big 5.0 amp motor, the biggest currently offered for this type of tool. There was virtually no vibration when turning on the tool and the motor seemed to run very smoothly at 30,000 rpm. These are the positive features of this tool.
Now for the bad. The motor is ear splittingly loud. I took a test cut into a soft pine board to see how the tool would react, and immediatley stopped and put on a pair of ear muffs. When holding the tool like a router, vertically, and cutting into a horizontal board, the ventilation slots on this tool, which are located about an inch from the spindle, blow saw dust right in your face. Wearing goggles or a face shield is mandatory! Regular glasses are not enough- you will get something in your eye! What a bad place to put the ventilation slots. Dewalt probably did this because they thought it would blow debris off the workpiece. Instead debris spews everywhere. The slots should be placed on the top of the tool to minimize saw dust or cement board dust from flying everywhere. Speaking of cement board or sheet rock, I would never use this tool inside a finished home. You will fill the room with dust. I started to cut my ceiling with this tool and switched to a sheet rock hand saw because of the dust. For an electrician or contractor cutting electric box openings or trimming sheet rock in an unfinished house this tool might be ok if you can stand the dust and noise. How does it cut? It cut the cement board fairly quickly with the bit I bought for cutting cement board. I used the supplied general purpose bit that came with the kit to cut my cabinet openings and it cut extremely slowly through the 1/2 inch pine of the cabinet. I switched to a jig saw and that worked much faster. Loading a bit in this tool is also awkward. You have push down a button on the the spindle lock and on another button simultaneously on the plastic sleeve above the spindle and then twist the plastic sleeve to tighten the collet. It's almost impossible to tighten the bit tight enough by hand to keep it from spinning in the collet. It's easier to just press down on the spindle lock and use a wrench to tighten the metal nut below the plastic sleeve to tighten a bit. Dewalt should have included a wrench to do this. As far as bit life is concerned, a 1/4" bit should be the minimum diameter you use for cutting anything. The 1/8" supplied bits are so flimsy and flex so much that I broke one of them in 1/2" soft pine. And I didn't apply hard pressure to the work piece.
Am I keeping this tool? No. I think it was poorly designed and is not very effective for wood. It works fairly well on cement board if you buy the right bit, but you could use a hand saw and create much less dust and make your cuts just as quickly. Dewalt assembled a nicely finished tool, but the design and limited functionality of this cut out tool do not add anything special to the tool industry. Jig saws, sheet rock hand saws, and hole saws can do what this tool is supposed to do more effectively and with less mess. That is why I gave this tool two stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELENT TOOL!!
As an electrician i use this tool 5-7 times a week and cut everything- 1" thick sold oak cabinates, sheetrock, plywood of all types and thickness, ceramic tile and even use to modify plastic outlet boxes and cover plates- I've used and broke a couple rotozips in my job and this Dewalt has better power and a much better feel than the rotozip in my opinion. The noise level of this tool isn't any different than any other tool in this class and noise levels depend on meterial you are cutting. Granted i don't use the handle or circle cutter that much in my job but when you do need to cut a nice round hole the circle jig is a MUST have. The toolless bit change is also a great time saver since you do break bits fairly often with this type of tool.I highly recomend this tool and with amazons price being about $20 cheaper than Lowes or Home Depot i'm buy one right now so my boss can have his back :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Dewalt got this one just right
This is a wonderful cut-out tool. It cuts through drywall with ease and makes a very smooth cut. You need to use both hands as it is very powerful but I haven't had any trouble keeping a straight line so far.

Like any rotary cut-out tool, it breaks bits! Keep a good supply handy and happy cutting.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for lots of power
I have owned a roto-zip and the dremmel. They just don't have the power of this DeWalt. The circle cutter option is very handy and really does a nice job. If you are hanging drywall this of course is a must. For recessed lighting it really makes things easy. Put your drywall in place, start somwhere on the inside of the light. Work your way out to the edge, carefully work your way over the outside and then follow the outside of the light all the way around. The can will pop through and you will have a perfect cut. This is a great tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt's HD CutOut Tool is G-R-R-R-EAT!!
A crew of two just finished installing several roomsful of sheetrock for us, using the DeWalt HD CutOut Tool to cut holes for outlet boxes, switch boxes, and the like. The tool worked beautifully (of course this guy was a pro, does this every day, but the tool would be great in the hands of an amateur as well), zipping sround squares and rectangles in no time. Fun to wa tch, too -- it really Zipped around. This is a great price, as well. I'll buy one as soon as I can. ... Read more

Here's a compressor ready for the job site with the professional contractor. The oil-lubricated pump with cast iron cylinder gives you four cubic feet per minute at 90 psi, enough to run multiple tools off the dual universal couplers. It draws low amps, too, great for job-site conditions. The panel is protected between the two tanks, a feature we really like, and features large, easy-to-read gauges for tank pressure and regulated pressure, as well as the regulator and the two quick couplers. We like the ball-type tank drain design, too, as well as the roll bars that surround and protect the 2.7 horsepower motor. Another nice touch is the pegged wrap area for the power cord. The handle offers a well-balanced haul, and it's light enough for easy portability at 65 pounds. But don't let that fool you--this is one reliable workhorse.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

Hands down, we love this saw. It's packing as much power as its corded colleagues—-maybe more—-but with the awesome convenience of a cordless. It sacrifices nothing in the way of strength or guts with its 1-inch stroke length and 2,900 strokes per minute. It's relatively lightweight for its power, but the battery does add some heft to it, and that's really the only less-than-perfect feature about it. The keyless blade clamp system lets you change out a blade without even touching the used blade or reciprocating shaft. We like that the open-topped shoe will pivot, so your visibility is never impaired. The trigger is encased in the same hand-friendly compound that wraps the handle grip as well as the front boot grip, and it's total comfort in your hand. We always like a trigger lock for reduced hand fatigue, too, and this one's got it all. Another great feature is that the blade reverses when you're faced with flush or plunge cuts. For speed, power, quality and cordless convenience, we give this saw two thumbs up.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A total winner
This is without a doubt the best compressor I've ever used. The Dual Voltage and Dual controls are both features worth having and the quick recovery is exactly that. You won't have to sit around waiting.
It has been trouble free since I purchased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be better
This compressor is as strong as you need, it runs several guns at a time. I use to install wood flooring, wood framing, cabinet work and roofing work, for the short time that I have had it, it has performed flawlessly. The dual Voltage and the continuos run option is definately a plus, It draws hard on a 120 volt system but runs smooth on the 220 volt hookup. The recovery time is quick and you don't have to stand around and wait, like my old compressor. 4-0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty sander
A six inch random orbital sander is intended for rapidly removing material from large surfaces (eg. table top). It is not a detail sander and should not be expected to be lightweight and agile. Use the right tool for the job. I am very happy with mine. It does a very good job of quickly sanding large areas. Unlike the competition (from a certain black/grey company), this sander provides integrated dust collection. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is two fold. First, the gear mechanism makes a grinding noise (like it is going to break). My Dewalt biscuit jointer made a similar noise, but has lasted for years. Second, the variable speed has a very narrow range of speeds (ie. highest speed is really fast, lowest speed is still really fast).

2-0 out of 5 stars My first random orbit
After using orbital sanders for years I decided to get the random orbit. I have been a big fan of Dewalt and did not hesitate on purchasing this tool. The dust collection for the most part does not work. The sanding qualities are first class. But six inch paper is hard to find. But I stocked up when I bought the sander. I have had to replace the switch after it quit working. Overall It sands well but fails in the dust collection department. Dewalt could do better.

2-0 out of 5 stars The good and the bad.
I have had this tool for several years now and bought it mostly because of the Dewalt name. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to expectations. First, 6 inch hook and loop pads are becoming harder to find. It seems that 5 inch pads are the current craze, especially adhesive pads. Secondly, this tool is noisy and heavy. It is hard think of it as a finishing sander. The collection bag is a joke and must have been designed by the team of Moe, Larry and Curly. The wire that gives the bag it's shape and stiffness poked a hole in the fabric the second day I used it. Very poor design. Not worthy of the Dewalt name. Its only saving grace is that due to its weight it will take rough stock off quickly.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Competitive
You can't see what you are working on well for a detail sander...that's the biggest problem. It goes down from there. High vibration, fairly noisy, and uncomfortable handle. I am surprised that DeWalt released this. It is beneath their standard. It's really just a grinder I think that has been reworked to do random orbit. Not competitive with Bosch or PC. ... Read more

No compressor. No hoses. No kidding. And no sacrifices in speed or power, either. There's absolutely no comparison between this performer and the fuel-cell powered competition, which we thought was a great innovation. But there's no costly fuel cell to replace on this tool—-just pop on a recharged XRP battery and get back on the job. The only difference you'll feel between this and a traditional pneumatic is that you're not tethered to an air hose. It's just as fast and fires just as powerfully into both soft and hard joints. We love that you can choose bump or sequential mode for precision or speed, something most nailers don't offer, and the integrated headlight is another impressive addition, really lighting up your workpiece even in the worst conditions. There's a fantastic six-position numbered dial to reference your depths, so you can move easily between, for example, baseboard and crown molding without struggling to reset the depth. DeWalt's covered what would have been our main safety concern: An air tool can't fire without a hose, but what's to keep this one from being accidentally fired? They've built in a contact trip lock-off. We were pleased with the troubleshooting process, too—the nosepiece is clear and very accessible, letting you clear a jammed fastener without screwdrivers or wrenches, though we couldn't get it to jam for us. Rear loading is simple and fast, and it accepts most brands of 16-gauge nails. The 20-degree angle gives you a little more maneuverability in tight spaces than the straight magazine, but you can't go wrong with either one. It's built tough for the job site, but the home hobbyist would love this tool. Just hook it on your tool belt and go; it's truly one of the coolest tools we've seen. You still get the belt hook, no-mar tip, safety glasses and kit box as the combo, so this is the way to save a few bucks if you already own batteries and a charger.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazed
When my abrasive blade chop saw "died", I debated whether to replace it with a similar saw or to try the carbide blade one. I was very hesitant to purchase the DW872 in that it did not seem possible it would do the job. However, the abrasive blade saws are quite expensive to own in that the blades do not last very many cuts and nor do the saws themselves. However, with a 30 day satisifaction guarantee I had very little to lose.
Having used the saw for several projects now, I know that I have made the correct decision in buying the DW872. The saw is much faster than the abrasive saw, makes a cleaner burr free cut. There is very little heat generated in the making a cut with almost to sparks.
Ergonically the saw is very well set up, with the large D-handle being amnidextrious, the vise affording a positive lockup, miter cuts are a breeze to adjust for, and downforce required is smooth. The metal base is the heaviest I have owned on such a saw.
Dewalt you really outdid yourselves on this one and I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Time Saver
I am a welder/fabricator. To me, time is money and this saw is a TIME SAVER! I mostly work with 2"x1/4" angle iron, 2"sch 80 Pipe and 4" channel. This saw is the best! Cutting time is literally 1/10 th the time of a band saw or abrasive cut-off saw and NONE of the of the clean up. I have 2 extra blades and alternate them at the sharpener. Unfortunately, I only get about 600 cuts out of a blade but, man is it fast. It's light weight and portable and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to save time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clean cut is a treat
I haven't tried the Porter-Cable multi-cutter saw, so I can't compare them, but after a couple dozen cuts in steel angle and tubing (up to 1/4" wall thickness) I'm very happy with the DeWalt. The ultra-smooth cut surface is remarkable compared with the ways most of us have cut metal all our lives. I'll be amazed if the blade really holds out for a thousand cuts, but several hundred before resharpening would still seem pretty good to me, considering the labor saved and the great results. I'm hanging on to the abrasive chop saw to handle hardened alloy shafts, spring steel, etc.; but I'm sold on the multi-cutter for most metal cuts. It IS one loud mama, and has a tendency to trip a 15-amp circuit breaker with its startup surge, but I can't blame the tool for my under-powered shop....

5-0 out of 5 stars Many refinements over the P-C
I bought this saw after wearing out my Porter-Cable dry cut saw. It's every bit as good as the P-C, and has a couple of nice design features to distinguish it.

1) The hand-lock for the fence and miter adjustment is great. P-C's saw requires using Allen wrenches for adjustment, which is time-consuming. (Also, the holes in the Allen screws fill up with swarf from the saw, so just getting the wrench into the screw head can be a project.) Adjustments are easy and basically instantaneous.

2) Horizontally oriented control handle and switch is very nice. Because of the way you run a saw like this (more below), the rgonmoics are much better than the P-C.

3) Pin-and-socket saw arm retainer. OH YEAH! P-C uses an old-fashioned chain-and-hook contraption to hold the saw arm down, which can be troublesome to engage. The Dewalt locks down just like their woodworking chop saws: hold the arm down and push in the retaining pin.

4) Quieter in operation than the P-C saw.

I am not a shill for Dewalt; I loved my P-C dry cut saw. I never realized the design could be this much better.

An important note for any dry-cut saw users: THIS IS NOT AN ABRASIVE CHOP SAW! I noticed complaints about blade life in some of the other reviews. Well, if you run this saw like an old-timey abrasive wheel chop saw, you won't get any blade life out of it either. The secret: minimal downward pressure. Rest your hand on the handle with just enough weight to keep the saw arm moving downward, and let the blade do all the work. If the blade throws more than a couple of tiny sparks once in awhile, you're pushing too hard, and the blade will suffer. I was able to make several thousand cuts in heavy stock with my P-C saw before the blade needed sharpening, an this one behaves similarly.

If you're doing a lot of work, get a spare blade. Having the carbide blade sharpened usually runs about 25 cents per tooth, and if you have a spare there's no downtime...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite up to the billing.
I have had the saw for a little over a week now. I have been satisfied with the speed of the cuts but am really dissatisfied with the amount of cuts I got before the blade had to be sharpened. I cut 14 ga square tubing and got less than 600 cuts before having to have the blade sharpened. As a result I am undecided as to whether or not I will be keeping the saw... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Required for good results
These tables are not included with the DW735 planer. Don't let that lead you to believe that they are optional. I tried to run the planer without them, and I got significant snipe. Adding the tables improved the snipe quite a bit, and as I adjust the tables to be level with the bed of the planer, the snipe keeps decreasing. If you want to get the performance you paid for with the DW735, you need these tables.

The tables should be purchased with the planer and mounted before the planer is bolted down to its final resting place. To mount the tables, the planer must be moved off of its platform just enough to get a few fingers and a wrench underneath the base. The instructions make a big deal about securing the planer during this operation, but I think their concerns are overstated. Only about 2" of the base needs to be accessible from underneath in order to mount the table, and this leaves the planer in a very stable position. Just be careful and use your own judgement.

It's true that the outfeed table does not fold up. Let's set this in perspective. This is a sign of inattentive design. It's silly, it's embarassing to DeWalt, but it doesn't reduce the usefulness of the infeed and outfeed tables. Frankly, I don't understand why it's so important that the tables fold at all. Jointers have huge cast iron infeed and outfeed tables that don't fold, and the only complaint I have heard about them is that they are never large enough. It seems to me the only point of folding tables is to perpetuate the silly notion that this is a "portable benchtop planer". I don't consider any object weighing 90 pounds to be "portable". I wonder how much more it would have cost DeWalt to have provided a non-folding cast iron bed of equivalent size. Perhaps that's coming in their next version.

Having tried the planer with and without, I am glad I bought the tables. I would recommend them to anyone with a DW735 planer.

4-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt DW7351 Folding Table for DW735
If you've read some of the other reviews you already know the back table extension will not fold up with a chip collection accessory hooked up, and that is true. The extensions do work very well with the plainer and install and fold up easily (at least the front). They are made well and work great. The back extentsion not folding up for me isn't such a big deal because I have the chip collection accessory and it sticks out about as far as the table extension anyway. I do recommdend you get them because they do help prevent snipe and make is easier to feed long boards through the plainer. After all, thats the main purpose for them anyway.

4-0 out of 5 stars design flaw on rear table attachment, otherwise great
Okay, I finally got the folding tables. They are very easy to assemble and align. Each corner of each table can be adjusted for height. The attachment points are spring loaded so they are also easy to take off and put back on. They do help in supporting the work and seem very solid. The front table folds up out of the way and stays there. The rear table however is another story. Because the main table and the back of the moter/blade assembly are pretty much even and the pin to hold the table is set back the rear table will never fold up and stay. When the depth of cut is set around an inch and the cord is wrapped around the cord holder the rear table won't flip up more then around 20 degrees. In my opinion this is a major design flaw, the main table needs to stick out at the rear by at least an inch or two to allow the table to fold up. ... Read more

This is a great deal! The money I saved buying these blades allowed me to buy other accessories for my saw. Not to mention the fact that after using the 32 tooth blade for cutting the framing I can switch over and use the 80 tooth blade for the molding. The thin kerf of these blades allows for accurate cuts.
