Wow! What an amazing dust hose adapter. You wouldn't believe this thing. Attach it to your planer and watch the wood chips just fly down the little black hose. You can't actually see the wood chips because it is opaque, but they do go through the hose, believe me. Don't believe me, just buy one and connect it to your planer and then check the bucket on your dust collector. Yup, piles of wood chips and sawdust, just like I told ya'. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good choice for a small shop.
After years of using a shop vac for dust collection in my small woodworking shop, I decided too spring for a dust collection system. I settled on a Delta AP 400 which has proved to be adequate, though just barely. I intended to plumb the collector system by buying the bits and pieces individually and improvising as much as possible to keep the cost down. However, I stumbled onto the Delta AP050 accessory kit on sale at Lowes. It seemed to have everything I would need in one box, so convenience won out over economy. The kit comes with four blast gates and twenty feet of hose as well as all the couplings, clamps and hardware to install the system. The only thing I will need to purchase are four inch to two inch adapters to match my router table and jointer. Accually, the price is not too unreasonable considering the number of blast gates, tee and elbow fittings, and clamps included. All in all, the kit is complete, of good quality, and not too expensive. Based on what I've seen so far, it's a good option for a small or medium shop. Now for the one beef I have that cost it a fifth star, there are no instructions, suggestions, or tips on how to set up a dust collection system. Admittedly, this is a minor complaint since there are many books and magazine articles on the subject. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great - get one.
Hooks up easy, works great, get one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fits easy and collects most of the chips
It took me about five minutes to put this on my planer. It gets about 99% of the dust and I'm using a 6hp, 18.6 gallon shop vac.

A hint for you if you plan on using a shop vac with this. You will need a 4 - 2 1/4 reducer. This will fit your shop vac just fine, all you need is a 2 1/2 splice and I found this at my local home center with the shop vac accessories. The 4" part of this is another story. The end of the chute is 4" and the reducer end is 4", they don't fit together they just butt up against each other and I couldn't find any kind of 4" splice. The solution for this is to use a dust collector hose but they are expensive so I bought a dryer vent hose. Normally that hose would collapse but since I'm only using to keep both of these parts together there is nothing to collapse. It works great and will save you from having to buy 20' of dust collector hose to only use 3".

PS Don't forget to get two 4" clamps to hold everything together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delta 50-445 4" Dust Collector Chute (For Model 22-560)
This Delta Dust Collector Chute is a must! No directions for installation, but installed easily once figured out. The chute must be removed to change planer knives ... a minor inconvenience. I had concerns about how to connect the 4" chute exhaust to my 2-1/4" shop-vac hose. Problem solved at my local plumbing store.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Ya gotta have this"
This is a must have, if you are using the Delta 22-560 planer. It not only collects the dust, but a good 90% of the chips as well. The fit is excellent and only takes a couple of minutes to install. If you are using a wet/vac for dust control it may not work as well, but if you have a 4" system this is the cat's meow.I'm going to two stage my collection system so the chips fall into a "can", because you can really fill the bag on the vac quickly when you are planing a lot of material. Delta got this one right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Forget This!
Planers create a lot of sawdust/shavings. Get this and hook it up to a dust collector. Only the smallest amount of shavings coming out after that. It really helps keep the shop and your projects clean. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wide Mouth Suction
If the machine does not have a DC port, then this is the thing you want. It's about 5" x 9" with a 4" hose connection, best of all, it has bolt holes so it can be connected to your work bench or a mount.

I have two collection intakes in use, one on the lathe and the other by the drill press. I plan on adding a third to the end of the workbench, just sweep the debris to the end of the table to be sucked up. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT THE BEST FIT
This 14'' table saw dust hood is not the best fit on my platinum edition contractor saw.To fit properly you will need to either make a frame out of sheet metal or plywood to fit under the saw. Then attach the hood to that. Delta does offer adaptor plates (for a charge) that ties it all in very cleanly. That's what I bought. This hood is well made and will accept any 4'' hose no problem. Amazons price on this item is awesome. I've seen it elsewhere for 3 times as much so, buy it here.I do recommend this item it's a real must for anyone concerned about collecting dust and keeping a tidy shop.It can also be fitted to fit almost any shop vac. 3-0 out of 5 stars Dust Collector Review
Overpriced in light of what you get (or don't get). They need to include the 5" to 4" adaptor (to get it down to the size most people use) and the correct screws to atach it. Otherwise it works fine. It keeps the dust to a minimum. I purchased a standard 5" to 4" heating vent adaptor at Home Depot and pop riveted it on so it would stay put. Extra cost and work that should not have happened if Delta had designed it correctly in the first place.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the right one to get for most users
Unless you have industrial-type 5" dust collector lines, get the Model 50-355, also sold here, instead. In spite of what it says on the 50-355 page, it works fine for both left-tilt and right-tilt Unisaws. The 4" port on the 50-355 is also the standard size for home shop dust collection systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great
I don't agree with the other person who rated it poor. Although it is very expensive for this little piece of sheet metal, prices are similar for air ducts you buy at the hardware store. The other person that rated it was right about not including the bolts that are needed though, which is poor on Delta's part. Otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars. I don't have any gaps with it on my Platinum Edition Unisaw, and it does a great job at getting rid of the dust on the ramp. I check every once in a while, and only get a little bit of piling up in the lower corners, next to the hole. This is far better than my old way of jamming the dust collector hose into the opening and just getting some of the dust, plus this connector gives the DC better suction. Since there is nothing else that fits the opening to this saw besides a cheap plastic option that works very poorly, this is your best bet to properly remove dust. I would recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars lot of money for a bit of sheet metal
I must say that I was somewhat disappointed in this item. It is made out of cheap galvanized sheet metal, and looks to be worth about a quarter of what Delta is charging for it. Worse still, it does not fit my Special Edition Unisaw all that well -- there are significant gaps at the sides of the piece, and the bottom of the connector doesn't fit snugly against the dust ramp on the Unisaw. As a final indignity, they include the wrong type of screws to attach it to the saw. (I had to go buy two hex head bolts, washers, and nuts at the local hardware store in order to attach it.)

I kept mine, because I do so much work with my Unisaw that I really need to attach my dust collector to it, but Delta definitely needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dust Connector for Older Contractor's Saw w/ 4" Outlet
Delta also offers a 12" and 14" square dust connector with a 4" outlet (50-470 and 50-471). Both are black plastic and less expensive than the galvanized sheet metal version. Amazon offers both. I rate this 5 stars because it is a great connector for older Contractor's Saws (for which it is intended) when you want the 5" opening or the heavier-duty sheet metal. Now you have several options and can pick whichever dust connector works best for your application.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Older Delta Contractor Saws with 50-314 Open Stand
This dust connector is exactly the right size for my Delta Contractor's Saw (34-410 / 34-440) that I purchased in 1987 which has a 50-314 open base stand. These are for pre-Series 2000 Contractor's Saw models. There is another version available for the Series 2000 Contractor's Saw and Contractor's Saw II, which is model 50-534 and has a 4" outlet. At one time, Delta offered a 5"x4" Reducer (50-479), but it is no longer available. Delta currently offers a quick-disconnect that connects to a 4" hose and slides over the 5" outlet (50-196), although Amazon.com does not stock this item (ARGHH!). I have not researched other options, but the opening on the stand is 12.5"x12.5" with several inches of room to spare on each side. I would imagine you can find something suitable with a 4" opening if desired.

One problem with Delta and Amazon.com is that they do not provide nearly enough information to their customers about dimensional information and product compatibility. You have to wade in and figure it out from the hints available in messages just like these.

And I don't know about you, but I think that Amazon.com should offer the COMPLETE line for all the brands they carry, even if some of the lower volume items are not stocked for 2-3 day availability or must be drop-shipped from the factory.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit my Delta Contractor's saw OR Dust Collector
The description says: "Fits Delta Contractor's Saws with open legged stand". My saw fits this description; I thought this adaptor would be custom fit. But my saw is about 19 1/2 x 16 1/4", and this piece is 12 1/2" square.

I also thought I would find an adapter somewhere that would connect a 5" port to a 4" hose. No luck. Odd, since Delta's dust collectors have either 6" or 4" intakes, and I've never seen any collector, hose, or adaptor (of ANY brand) that connects to 5".

So it doesn't fit my Delta open-leg contractor's saw or my Delta dust collector. Odd considering it's said to be a Delta part.

Of course, with an open-base saw, any dust fitting is only part of the story: you still need a way to close off the back face, and this is difficult since the motor and belt are back there, and the belt changes position when you tilt the blade. I am planning to try a small enclosing box that may also work as a back-feed table as a solution.

I have since noticed that my saw is a Series 2000. While there is a fitting for Series 2000 saws made by Delta (sold by Amazon), reviews there indicate that that fitting leaves a wide gap.

Looks like I'll be adapting a 14" plastic chute with a piece of plywood to fit the rest of the space. Far from ideal, but better than dust in the air. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cleaner air! Increased airflow! Works great[.]
I just installed my 1-micron bags. What a difference! It's true, the 1-micron bags do not inflate up hard like the original bags that came with the dust collector. Since the 1-micron bags allow so much more air to pass through more easily, do not expect them to be inflated hard and stiff. The 1-micron bags have less resistance to air flow. To test, I held the original bags and the 1-micron bags over my mouth to see how breathable they were. The 1-micon bags were very easy to breath through and the original bags were very restrictive. I purchased the 1-micron bags for two reasons, (1) I breath anything that the bags do not collect and (2) I started noticing a very light dust covering over items in my storage room where I also keep the dust collector after about 2 weeks of use (I just installed my dust collection system.) I can only imagine what it would look like after 2 years with the original bags. Keeping things clean is the original reason I bought the dust collection system in the first place. My only negative is I think these bags are a bit pricey but I still worth a 5-Star rating.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad QC
I received my dustbags today and tried to put them on. Unfortunately what I received must have been a training version for a first-day employee. It was covered with red marker ink indicating where they were supposed to sew loops and seams. Unfortunately, the person marking it must have also been having a bad day. Some loops were marked and sewn 5" apart, while others, were more that 24" apart (trust me, I measured). Needless to say, I have requested an exchange from Amazon[.com]--let's hope Delta's QC folks don't let more of these out.

Also typical of the last few teims I purchased from Delta, the packaging and/or directions don't match the current state of the product--this one came in a package that said top dust bag, so I started to worry, but then there was obviosly the bottom bag in the package as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reduces air velocity
I think the other reviews are fairly accurate, however I would like to point out that I have noticed a small decrease in the suction pressure/air velocity. If you feel your collector is just barely pulling in the dust then these bags may hurt you more than they help. Otherwise, these bags are well made and a very good value.

5-0 out of 5 stars You need them if your DC's in the same room
These bags are a necessity if, like most of us, you place the dust collector in the same room you work in. However, if you are able to locate the machine in a separate room, or within an enclosure vented to the outside, then you don't really need to invest in 1-micron bags. Why? because problem these bags solve is the dust that exhausts through the standard 30-micron bags.

I built a small shed enclosure outside my garage for the machine. Now all the dust coming through the 30-micron bags goes outside where it does no harm.

One caution, though: when you solve one problem, you create another. This machine moves about a garage-full of air every minute or so. If you think about it, that's a lot of air leaving the room. If you don't have the (dust-laden) air coming back into the room through the 30-micron bags, then you have to have intake air from somewhere. That usually means from outside, and in cold climates it will be hard to keep the workspace warm.

So you hardy folk in the north climates will have to struggle with either 1) dust, 2) buying the 1-micron bags, or 3) how to stay warm with 1,100 cfm of cold air rushing into the room. There's no free lunch (unless you live in California).

5-0 out of 5 stars Well constructed bags
When you look at the package you can see they are much thicker than the normal bags. They are made of heavy felt about 1/8" with the soft fuzzy felt on the outside, and on the inside the felt is coated with a spray that I understand helps with the 1 micron aspect. The bottom bag has elastic sewn into the edge so that it is infinately easier to attach it to the DC and adjust the tightening band...very nice...the belt loops are made of the same material as the bag. The entire bags are double sewn and seem to be of good qaulity (no bad stitching), the seams of the bag are on the outside so that the interior of the bag has minimal oppurtunity to leak...the only 'gripes' are as to the bags not inflating as tightly as the 'leaky' 30 micron bags they replaced, makes me wonder if I am stressing my motor and/or getting the same volume of suction. [The old bag was tight and fully standing up when in use, this bag inflates maybe half as much, and when you poke the bag there isn't the tension on the surface like the old. I ran some clean 2x4s through the planer (the most voluminous tool and one farthest from the DC) and the pick up was good and similar o before. When I put my hand near an active outlet the suction seams quite good and similar to before.], the bags don't seem to be 'oversized' as I expected them to be, the tightening belt needs one more knotch, as one knotch was too loose for holding the bags on, and the next knotch seemed almost too tight. If I see a major reduction in the residual dust in my shop (the dust that settles after you leave for the evening) then I would change my rating to 5 star.

Update: I have since learned that the 1 micron bags do not inflate like the normal ones, there is more air that passes through the bag and therefore it doesn't inflate. Imagine a balloon with several pinpricks in it....it will inflate slower than a normal balloon, now add many more pinpricks and the balloon will become very difficult to inflate.

I have almost no dust on general surfaces now that I use this bag and have installed a 4" PVC DC system...I now believe that the suction i have is better than before, also with the bags my motor never whines when i am trying to pick up a lot of dust and chips...I am changing my review to 5 stars as all my expectations have been met, and feel confident that these bags are a good investment...I read in a dust collecting book that one should try to first spend money on good 1 micron bags before getting an overhead air cleaner....I don't see any reason to buy/make an air cleaner now...so money not spent on an air cleaner has more than paid for these bags... ...
