Amazon.com Review

This is the perfect dust collection system for the home woodworker. It packs a powerful 1-horsepower motor and moves a maximum of 650 cubic feet of air every minute. Top and bottom collection bags mean you score a hefty 2.6 cubic feet of chip/dust capacity. When we ran this system, we were impressed by how quiet it is--a great advantage for the home woodworker. The 4-inch hose fits standard dust and chip chutes on tools like your jointer, table saw, and planer--the big names in sawdust manufacturing! The AP400 is a great choice for the average home woodworking shop because it's mounted on such a small footprint--just 14 inches wide and 27 inches long--and it sits on four easy-glide wheels to move the system from one tool to another or into the corner for storage. Great power, great price. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

Features

  • 1-horsepower TEFC induction motor with cooling fins delivers 650 cubic feet per minute of airflow--ideal for use with a single machine
  • Curved steel impeller for durability and maximum airflow

5-0 out of 5 stars Great collector, but shop around before you buy
Nice unit, I've always been happy with delta products. BUT, The shipment took OVER 1 MONTH with no explanation. This is the second big tool that I've purchased from Amazon.com and the last. Unacceptable

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good Dust Collector (after modification)
Have had the AP400 for a couple of months now and have had the same broblem with clogging on the planer as another reviewer, shavings getting hung up on the little cross bars at the inlet. I solved the problem with a slight modification (it involved metal snips) and it now works fine with no clogging! I have it connected with overhead pipe system (standard old galvinized vent pipe from my local home center) with T's coming off to four different machines with blast gates on each T to allow one at a time to be used. Works great you don't have to keep fooling with the large hose moving from one machine to another, just close and open blast gates as needed. When not in use I can disconnect the hoses that run from the blast gates at the T's down to each machine and roll all the equipment out of the way (I am set up in my garage works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great dust collector
Just got the AP400 and it had no problems when connected to my Delta 12.5" planer. I was planing 1X8 kiln dried cedar and I had no clogging problems at all. I used it extensively on my table saw and the dust fog I had been living with when ripping was no longer there. I would highly recommend this collector to anyone who has a small shop and wants to connect one machine at a time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Packageing
I machine so far works well, however I got a scare when I opend the box and everything was covered in a white powder. I got scared and called the Sheriff with what is going on in the world today.
Well come to find out it was what they put in the box to control moisture, they put a package containing lime. And the package got punctured somehow,I had never heard of that before I have always seen silicon gel used for that purpose. I suggest they use something else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Clogging issues with planers
Out of the box, the unit would clod very quickly when attached to a planer taking 1/16 of a 4" board (something a 650 CFM dust collector should not have a problem with). The problem is caused by a crossbar in the 4" inlet which appears to have been added to prevent someone from sticking there hand up into the impellers. Longer shavings from the planer get caught on the bar and then in turn help catch later pieces. I could probably be sued for suggesting people fix the problem the way that I did, so instead I would suggest the slightly more pricy JET which does not have a crossbar. Another reviewer went up in size instead and I think that is probably overkill for most small, single operator, shops. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Remember that annoying workplace slogan, "Your parents don't work here--clean up after yourself"? Well, with the Delta 1,200 cfm dust collector, you've got a powerful, well-built machine to keep the shop clean. Built with a 1-1/2-horsepower induction motor for long life and curved steel impellers for durability, this dust collector whisks away debris from tools' dust ports with surprising force, so the only thing collecting particles around the shop might be your old broom resting in the closet. Set on a sturdy caster base for easy mobility, the dust collector stands 88 inches tall and has two intake ports for collecting simultaneously from multiple machines. The large 6-cubic-foot bags will reduce your trips to the trash and filter the air of particles down to 30 microns. For cleaner air, you can always upgrade to 5- or 1-micron bags. This is a great tool for any midsize woodworking shop. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Whatta SUCKER!!!
I'm working out of a makeshift shop (4 mil plastic shroud) in a walkout basement until I can move into my house that's being built and realized after a few hours worth of using my Bosch contractor table saw and router that things were going to get too dusty too quick unless I took some anti-dust measures.

I researched all the brands and talked to a good number of knowledgeable guys at the local woodworking store and decided (or rationalized) on the Delta 50-850. I took a hard look at the AP400, but knew that although it may meet my current needs, I would eventually want another intake port and more HP/CFMs. Also, I was honestly impressed by the Jet and Grizzly machines, but what can I say, I'm a Delta guy! Plus, I liked that it came standard with a 5 micron bag versus the standard 30 micron bags.

I got the box home, unpacked it and wasn't surprised to have it easily put together in about 45 minutes. Delta has always impressed me with their no-nonsense, K-I-S-S approach to power tools. Their elegance is in the basic simplicity of design. That being said, I did experience some angst when the directions said put flat washers on the screws before the lock washers .... seemed a little odd having the flat (big) washers on the outside, but oh well, I guess ACTUALLY following the directions would seem a little strange to anyone.

So then came time to put the bags on. Read so many reviews about how difficult it was or what a pain it can be. A total non-issue -- easy as could be without one hiccup. Maybe Delta added the "lower dust bag retaining clips" since the other reviews, but I had no problems whatsoever.

With my assembly having gone so well, I was excited to fire this thing up. I finished reading the instructions, went to attach it to the port on the back of my saw and realized the 2-1/2" side of my 4" to 2-1/2" adapter was exactly the same size as the Bosch's exhaust port. Quick trip to the Blue team and I found a suitable rubber plumbing adapter that worked. With that minor issue out of the way ... I'm ready. The moment of glory when I get to hit that big green 'ON' switch. So I do. It runs for about 3 seconds and then cuts off. I'm checking the reset button when my girlfriend comes downstairs with a lit candle. Ok, I may be a little slow but I quickly figure THIS ONE out. Used my biggest gauge extension cord and found a 20-amp plug (in the laundry room), fired 'er up and WOW!! Not too loud at all and used one of the hoses (remember, one is included. I bought an extra one.) to clean the place up a little before trying out the saw. Ran it all night long as I used the saw and didn't see one ounce more of new sawdust. Very impressive! I did notice that the smaller particles (the most dangerous ones) were still suspended in the air (kind of hazy), but I plan on buying the one micron bags and eventually an ambient air cleaner for added protection.

5 Reasons to buy the Delta 50-850:
1. With 4" hoses you need more CFMs to move the right amount air without breaking the bank (remember, manufacturers quote MAX CFMs).
2. 2 intake ports are better than one.
3. Easy to set up and easy to operate.
4. Don't settle. Go for a better model vice an 'ok' one.
5. It's a Delta.

Bottom line: This thing may cost a little more than what you to pay for a dust collector, but buy it and you'll find it's truly money well spent. I did ... and I'm very happy with both the quality and performance.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was wonderful while it worked
This is a powerful vacuum. I bought mine 2 years ago. Unfortunately, about a month ago, the vacuum sucked in some small oak blocks from the table saw. The oak blocks, about 3/4" square by 3 inches long, slammed against the fins inside, dented the cover and slightly bent the fin wheel. I heard a loud clang and that was all, the unit kept working.

Soon after, I discovered that crash caused the fin blade to go out of balance. Now it is burning through start capacitors within hours. It is so bad that I am giving up on it and buying another vacuum.

I would get another 50-850, because it is a good product for the money. But of course, I'm not happy with the motor and the vulnerable, delicate design. Long-term durability is clearly this product's weakness. And, I'm dissatified with the flimsy structure, which makes the unit hard to move around.

I like my Delta tools but I don't love them.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed.
Disappointed, but Delta rectified the problem. They do stand by their products. I own a lot of Delta woodworking equipment. I have a 10 inch Unisaw, 14 inch Bandsaw, 8 inch jointer and 13 inch planner, a Drill press, a Belt/disk sander, jigsaw, mortiser etc. and I love them all. The Delta 50-850 has been a nuisance. The 1 1/2 hp 3450 rpm Tiawan motor keeps burning out starting capacitors. No, I do not overload it and I have not had any jams. I have replace three capacitors since I bought it in late 1997. The capacitors sell for less than $10.00. On my last visit to my motor service/repair shop (fall of 2003) I observed an identical Delta 50-850 in for a total motor rebuild. I was advised that chronic capacitor failure is often due to a faulty switch inside the motor. My dust collect has just burned out another capacitor (June 2004). If you visit the Delta repair parts WEB site you will find they want $310.00 plus shipping for a new motor. Would a new Delta motor be any better? That is more than a whole new dust collector from the AMAZON.com. The good news is that even though the machine was made in 1997, Delta stood by thier product and will replace the motor!

5-0 out of 5 stars Now Thats POWER!
I'm new at building my own shop. I did quite a bit of homework on dust collectors. Just starting it up for the first time wowed me. You could here the power. After a quick connection with a hose and floor sweep it got its first test. After placing the floor sweep in a pile of sawdust and turning it on, it showed what it was all about. Without moving anything the unit picked up the pile and about another 3 feet around the pile. It was incredible just seeing it happen. I was originally looking at the next model down (since its a small home workshop) But have to say that I'm very happy with going with the next level up. I read it in other rewiews and I'll give the same advise. Spend a little more now. Its worth it. The setup took about an hour and was very easy to do. The bags connect very easy without any effort. One final piece of advise: Make sure your ceilings are high enough so you don't have to take the top off to move. Thats my only mistake. An I'm fine with it. Enjoy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars How did I ever do without it?
After looking at units from Jet, Delta, Grizzly, JDS, and HF to name a few, I decided on the Delta 50-850 because of a good match of price and performance. I can say without a doubt that I was not disappointed.

The Delta units comes standard with 5 micron bags, and option that can cost $40 and up on other units. It also comes with clear botom bags for easy disposal and retaining clips to hold the bag in place while you fasten the band clamp.

My first impression when I hit the start button was one of pure happiness. I immediately felt a massive amount of suction and proceeded to clean up all the piles of shavings and sawdust I had accumulated in the shop. It sucked everything up in no time, yet I didn't see any hint of dust flying in the air because of particles making it through the bag. Only time will tell as to how long the unit will last, but for now, I'm very happy I decided to buy the Delta. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

You know you're a real woodworker once you start ogling dust-collection systems--it's the next logical step when you're making more sawdust than you can sweep. There are lots of reasons to bring one of these into your workshop: safety, air quality, and time--you can spend more time making sawdust rather than sweeping it up! This model is a favorite of ours for a few reasons: price, power, and size. You're not going to find many systems at this price that will move 550 cubic feet of air per minute, as this AP300 can with its 3/4-horsepower motor. It's totally portable, too, and at 50 pounds, it totes easily from one tool to the next with a comfortable grip handle. The 4-inch intake hose fits the standard dust chute that comes on most tools, and a nice wide hood will capture chips and dust and debris. One more advantage to this little fellow over a stationary system: it'll hang on your wall for storage, up out of your way--a huge plus for folks with space-challenged workshops. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for its size
I have limited space so i thought i'd give it a try despite some lower reviews here. But this is the deal.
I have a Porter-cable vacuum that i use with my routers and smaller machines, but i wanted to get something a little bigger and still portable to use with my tablesaw, bandsaw, lathe, planer and jointer. My Rigid shop vac is slightly bettter than useless.
This draws more air and chips than the Porter-Cable as well as my Rigid shop vac. My Porter-Cable vacuum is much better than my Rigid. Although the rigid has a larger diameter hose to pick up larger chips, it's not a very good vacuum.
This portable Delta dust collector draws substantially more debris.
I have no problem with this Delta unit and was pleasantly surprized with it's ability to collect material from all of my machines.
I suggest getting 4" quick disconnects permanently mounted on all of your machines rather than use the Delta kit and/or the screw clamps. Makes swapping back and forth trouble free.
I give this a 4 rather than a 5 since the bag included is only 30 micron. 10 microns and under are what contributes to lung problems. I do use a JDS air filter which picks up the rest of the little stuff.
Actually there's a company called Penn State Industries that makes a portable unit with a 1 micron bag that's more powerful. It's a little over $200. A 1 micron replacement bag is $69.

But if you opt for this you can save yourself some money, it's $119 at Lowes.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but there's better
This is a make-do item. You'll need more power if you're doing anything more than simple sanding. The pricing is a bit bogus. No one on the net or in any of my catalogs sell it for what amazon calls the full price. most places match Amazon's price and several are $10-20 less -- even when you don't get free shipping.

1-0 out of 5 stars Delta Portable Dust Collector- Not Worth Your Money
I have a small shop in my garage so wanted a small dust collector. Attached it to a delta planer- Doesn't do the job. Attached it to my router table- Nothing. My portable vaccum is much stronger.

Go for a more powerful unit.

I'll sell this one (one month old) in a blink.

Shame on Delta.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
I needed a small Dust Collector to use as a dedicated machine to suck up the dust and chips from a sliding compound miter saw station I built. This unit fits the size requirements I needed but the 3/4HP motor does not have as much CFM as I would like. Additionally, there were three dust leaks, two at the impeller cover and one around the opening for the bag. I sealed the first two with silicone but the second I had to get some thin insulation and replace their strap with a hose clamp. I shortened the length of 4" hose to the dust hood and with those improvements the unit is still only marginally good. But for the price it does an ok job. I definitely would not recommend this unit for collecting dust from a planer, table saw, shaper, jointer, or router table. I would also like to have received something better than the supplied 30 micron bag.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not powerful enough
The main reason that I purchased this was the portability, which allows me to move it around my shop (since I don't have an installed system). My experience has shown that a powerful shop vac (I have two Ridgid ones) are more portable (due to the casters) and a heck of a lot more powerful. I have installed this on several machines and found that it is only barely adequate on those that have built-in collection ports. When used as a free-standing collector (router table, drill press, etc.), more goes by the intake than goes in. The unit just doesn't have that much suction power (putting your hand over the intake will demonstrate this). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Suckage (!) my not be the limiting factor
Even if your exhaust system pulls 90 inch static vacuum, the VOLUME of air moved may not be enough to remove the dust generated by some woodworking machines. The best solution is to move a lot of air fast, as with a ventilator designed for attics. The dust will wind up outdoors, but that's a better place for it than in your lungs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not very impressive dust collection
I couldn't wait to get this thing. Now I kinda wish I had.
It simply does not do a very good job of sucking dust down into the table. I have a 1500 cfm collector and I shut all of the other ports but, alas, it just doesn't work very well. Not sure there is much that could be done to improve it.
Still haven't tried connecting collector directly to this table. That is my only hope at this point. I suspect it will work better but it would have to be a pretty big jump to make a difference. I wil probably end up laying something across the area of the table I'm not using to get maximum suckage. I had expected it to keep the fine dust from gettign airborne. Too bad... it looked like a really good alternative to a dedicated downdraft table. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Reasonably priced and efficient tool:
This is a very well designed and efficient dust collector for a single large machines or several small tools. Relatively quiet, this collector is well-made and easy to assemble. I recommend that you seal all possible air leaks around the tool to increase the efficiency. The included hose isn't long enough for most applications. Purchace additional hose and fittings to improve your connections. I was very surprised by how well it worked hooked up to my table saw. We were cutting up 50 panels of Homasote withing a closed office and the collector worked beyond anyone's expectations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does all I need it to do
I purchased this dust collector about 1 year ago, and I must say it met my expectations.

I usually only hook up to one tool at a time and it does a wonderfull job. I use it on my Shopsmith so I did have to buy a reducer to connect to the 2 1/2 inch dust outlets.

It is louder than Shopsmiths own collector, but not too loud. I always wear earplugs in the shop anyway.

I recently purchased the Y connector and extra hose to hook up the table saw and jointer at the same time. I have only tried it once, but it seemed to do okay.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well for singular use
Bought this not knowing that I needed one and have come to love it. I roll it around or stretch 15' of hose to what I'm using at the time.
Works well with the equipment I use, 15" planer, 8" jointer, bandsaw and sanders.
Had to modify it by cutting out the cross bars in intake port because it would instantly plug while plaining cedar, with the stringy shavings. Now I'm carefull not to suck up big things because they would probably make the impeller unhappy.
Wish the bag was larger, it fills pretty fast and is a bit of a pain to put back on after dumping. Would consider a trash can attachment for catching most of the larger stuff becaus it would be eaiser to empty.
I would go for a larger one if I were going to plumb it in.

3-0 out of 5 stars Effectiveness of the 50-775
I recently bought this dust collector and have used it extensively when I was making adirondack chairs out of cedar fence boards. I found that while it had enough poop to draw the shavings from my delta planer, it tended to clog up right at the intake at the motor housing because of the cross built across the intake just below the impeller. I don't know if it was because of the size of the shavings or the fact that they were slightly damp. Same thing happened with myjointer. With my table saw and router table there was no problem. While it was easy to unclog the stoppage by pulling the hose off, it was tiresome and not what I expected.
So the jury is still out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works for me!
I use this dust collector in my shop, and move it from tool to tool as needed. I've had it for about a month, and used it a couple of times on my 6" jointer while face jointing 5-6" wide ash (about 50 bf worth).

It is my first dust collector, and I think it worked just great! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for a small shop
I recieved this collector as a gift. Probably would not have bought it on my own, mainly because I thought I needed more hp. I was wrong. Have had this little jewel in the shop now for about 7 months and its perfect. I have a very small shop, 120 sq ft, and this unit fits under my home made saw table (New Yankee Workshop version). I generally only have one machine running at a time so I just move the hose around. Very seldom have to move the machine. It does a great job of collecting the dust and chips from the table saw, planer, miter saw and band saw. The only problem I have had is with the zipper on the bag, I think it could have been a little heavier construction, but if you remember to vacuum the zipper edges before you attempt to close it up again it works fine. I added an additional length of 4" hose (10ft) to the hose that came with the machine so I could easily reach all my chip producers as I did not want to constuct a permanent pipe system and have not had any problems with static electricity. I'm thinking of adding one of the "can" type second stages to my little system so I am not emptying the bag so often. This is a perfect upgrade from a shop vac type of system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dust control in a small or big shop
My shop consist of a one car garage and I do alot of Bandsaw projects. The amount of sawdust produced by a Bandsaw is enormous and with very little air circulation this poses a health hazard. This dust collector takes care of this problem. Its ease of mobility to go from one machine to another has keeped sawdust to a minimum with very little to clean up at the end of a day, also making it easy to store. This unit does get warm but not hot and has not tripped any breakers during long operating periods. It is rated at 80db but because of the size of my shop is seem alittle louder than that. I had this unit running in about five minutes out of the box and have been pleased with its perfomance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be tempted by cheap dust collectors!
If there is one machine in your shop that needs to be well made and reliable it's your dust collector. Think about it, if you have 5 machines that require dust collection, your dust collector will run continuously while any of those machines are in operation. Therefore, your dust collector will run five times a much as any other machine in your shop. I had serious doubts about units costing half as much as this one being able to keep pace with this requirement.

I specifically was looking for a relatively compact size, maximum CFM capacity and as quiet as possible. I'm happy to report that all of these requirements were met by the Delta 2HP model. The impeller is metal and well balanced (this contributes greatly to the noise reduction over cheaper units), the metal sound baffle between the blower and the drum is superior to the flex hose found on cheaper models (which will eventually wear out from the abrasion of particles on it) and having three 4" connection points at the blower reduces the amount of ducting required. Yes this unit is made in Taiwan, but it is made to a very high standard and is well packaged to avoid shipping damage. In addition to the dust collector I also purchased the 1 micron upper bag, buy this if you plan on collecting sanding dust. I use what are called drum liners (intended to line 55 gallon drums and available at Home Depot) for the lower bag. Heavy plastic bags are better and can be re-used, but they are expensive, hard to find and do eventually rip. I also bought a remote control unit for the starter which has proven to be invaluable. I can start and stop the dust collector from anywhere in my shop even in the "I only have one cut" scenario.

I've complained in other postings on how difficult it is to get information on Delta products from Delta. Three requests on the DB rating of this machine made to their web site went unanswered. Just goes to show that even big companies wrestle with their intentions, direction and service on the web. Nonetheless, this is a high quality product and well worth the money. Highly recommended.

I have owned this collector for 2 years and have found it quite adequate to service my shop. I am reducting the shop due to rearanging the tools. I wish this had a larger single port to give me better airflow. I think it would be helpful if the bottom bag had a full length zipper to help empty the bag. Also, the bottom bag should have a velcro strip on the bag to hold it inplace whild trying to put the metal band on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 2 HP Single Stage Dust Collector
Want to run 3 machines at once? This machine will do it! This collector has (3) 4" collector inlets. I use metal ducting...I put a y in each of the inlets and have them connected to 6 machines. I consistently run the Unisaw, 8" jointer and 3 HP shaper at the same time with excellent results. The Y's go to a band saw, sanding center and a scroll saw and I use blast gates to control the vacuum to each machine. Tried PVC...It was a waste of money...Stick with metal ducting and you will not regret it. I've had my set up for 2+ years and never had a lick of trouble! 4 out of 5 stars...I would like to see Delta make Removing and Re-installing the cloth bags easier. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT DUST CONTROL
If you are like me and use your shop more then once a week and have more then just a table saw you might want to purchase this tool. I bought a 1hp collector and use that for some machines at the other side of the shop, However, most of my tools are located on one side of my basement. So I desided to spend some money and save time, agravation, and complaining from family members. I now have this in a seperate room (because of the noise) and have run metal ducking all along the one side/ middle of my shop. With the help of blast gates and different conectors I have reduced my clean up time by %90. I also have alot less dust on my tools. I have my 14in bandsaw, router, shaper, radial saw, tablesaw, sander, planer, and jointer all conected to this machine. Now don't miss interperate this, you can't have all the gates open to all the tools at the same time. At most I have 3-4 gates open at a time with significant dust collection. If you want to get a good, time saving machine I suggest buying this one. And everyone knows that Delta make some of the best tools on the market. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice but a couple things you need to know
I like this unit but here a couple of items that surprised me when putting it together. First of all, it is tall fully assembled -- about 9 ft 2 inches to the top bag bracket. Second, it doesn't come with a power cord. You must buy the cord and plug and wire it into the controller yourself. This lets you pick the cord length you need, but don't plan on plugging it in out of the box. The directions are okay, but could use a little bit more discussion. Study the pictures while assembling. They supply more hardware than listed in the instructions so you need to identify where it goes. Have fun! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Eliminate sanding dust completely with this powerful downdraft table. A heavy-duty 1-horsepower induction motor draws dust-filled air down through evenly distributed dust-collection ports beneath the vented surface, keeping potentially hazardous particles out of the air and out of your lungs. The steel top's rubber grommets keep your workpiece in place, whether you're using a belt sander, a finish sander, a chop saw, or even a router. The table measures 31 inches on each side, but if your workpiece is larger than that, no problem--the dust curtains come down quickly and easily, and your space is unlimited. We're impressed with the amount of air it moves--a huge 920 cubic feet per minute. The dust is pulled down through the ports and is trapped in its reusable pleated filter, encased in a metal tray for durability and quick cleaning. Just vacuum it off and you're ready to work again. Built-in casters offer mobility and convenience. This package has a great bonus, too--a free 352VS 3-by-21-inch belt sander. Can't miss with this one. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Machine
I've had my 1 HP dust collector for about two years now. Overall I've been very happy with it. Assembly was straight forward without any missing hardware or other nasty surprises. Fit and finish of all parts is very good to excellent. The
assembly/use instructions are quite adequate. The zip lock
plastic bag for storing the manual/parts breakdown is a nice touch. Like the vast majority of my Delta tools it did NOT
require a phone call to their customer service to get it up and
running. Having said that you DO need to set aside a couple of
hours to assemble the pup..there are a LOT of bolt/washer/nut
connections to make. Should be a one person assembly operation-nothing is really too heavy for the average woodworker to handle
alone.

It is a well made unit which will obviously serve the needs of the small shop user for many, many years.

In operation it does an outstanding job of sucking up airborne
sanding dust and debris. Out of habit I still wear a dust mask,

but I really think it isn't necessary. In a confined area it is a little noisy (not as bad as a cheap vacuum though) and you might want to consider ear protection especially if you're going to use it all day.

Nit picks: (1) the dust filter-glued-to-a-tray needs to be changed to something where a standard 1" industrial filter can be used. Even though the original filter will last for years with care, the purchase price for a replacement is just too high.

(2) The curtain surrounding the top is a little awkward to use if you put the dust collector up against a side wall.

(3) Why aren't all of the holes in the top fitted with grommets?
Gosh, these things cost maybe a dime a piece..surely that extra
expense wouldn't have broken the budget! You can take one of your grommets to a decent hardware store (forget the big box places.the 16 year old kid working there has no idea what a grommet is..) and get enough to fill the rest of the holes for
little more than pocket change.

All nit picks are very minor and in no way detract from my overall satisfaction. I've been given to understand that Delta is moving production for this item offshore too-so if you want a Made in the USA one you'd better hurry up and buy it!

BTW: The fan powering this beast is very, very strong. All of air entering the top exits the bottom...don't be surprised if
you find out your floor is NOT as clean as you think it is as it
blows up dust from under the machine. ... Read more
