Amazon.com Review

With this line of canister-filter dust collectors, JET has raised the bar on how clean shop air can be. To begin with, the new filter design captures particles as small as 2 microns, keeping even infinitesimally small particles out of the air you breathe. The best dust collectors in this price range in the past have never done better than 5-micron filtering--and that was after adding additional filters to existing systems. The V-weave design of the canister filter also yields greater capacity than the more common bag filter. Added filtering area allows for better airflow, so a clear plastic collection bag can be used without reducing the machine's 1,200 cfm. As a result, when the bag is full, you can tie it off and dump it rather than having to empty and reuse a dusty old cloth bag. Another feature we really appreciate is the filter cleaning mechanism. Turning a handle on the top of the filter rotates a cleaning flapper inside the filter, shaking loose dust and debris into the collection bag. Removing the filter and shaking it out or beating it is not required for regular cleaning. This model has a 2-horsepower motor, comes on a stand with casters, and has connections for up to two 4-inch dust collection hoses. It's a great choice for keeping dust under control in small to medium-sized shops. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great vacuum - poor filter
I purchased my Jet DC1200K dust collector a few months ago (about a bag of sawdust). I am pleased with everything but the dust filtering canister. The unit has plenty of power and is relatively quiet. I can recommend this unit highly, but suggest you consider a bagged version rather than the canister filter if you use it more than a day or so a week.

The dust filter has the same filter clogging problems as a shop vac only bigger. While the paddles are a good idea, they don't get the job done and some messy disassembly is required every couple of weeks or so. A thorough cleaning results in about a bucket of sawdust the paddles and thumping the canister miss. I recently decided to abandon the canister and go with a bag filter. I needed a bag retaining strap and a bag. Jet customer service told me the retaining strap was on backorder and not expected for a month and a half. (I wonder if there is a reason why Jet is out of stock on this item?) A Jet filter bag is priced at $138. I bought a Woodtek 20"x 36" 1 micron bag for $29 and used a Pony band clamp for a retaining strap. The revised dust collector works noticeably better than it did before with a freshly cleaned canister. The bag still requires cleaning, but a few slaps on the bag results in clearly visible quantities of sawdust falling into the collection bag. Air flow doesn't degrade as quickly as with the canister and cleaning is much easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars JET DC-1200CK Dust collector
I've been using the DC1200CK in my shop for almost 10 months and I'm very happy with it. It has plenty of power, even through my less than optimal duct system. The motor on this unit is 2HP and seems to be more than ample for the size and cfm of the blower. Its runs all day and is only warm to the touch. I have only two small complaints. 1) The bag is a bit tricky to remove and install. The top of the bag must be folded over a cloth covered spring band and inserted into a groove on the the inside edge of the collector. It takes a while to get a good technique for doing this and it can be a little frustrating at first. I doubt this connection method is unique to JET, and I cant suggest a better method, but I thought it was worth mentioning. On the plus side, though, there are absolutely NO leaks where the bag connects which is the most important thing. Also, the bags are very robust and can be used at least 4 times...maybe more! 2) The filter canister. First let me say it works great! It seems like nothing gets through it. It's the cleaning that is a bit tricky. The paddles that you rotate dislodge most (70%) of the dust. The remainder must be removed by gentle rapping all around the canister with the palm of your hand, followed by a blast of compressed air. This probably removes 95% of the dust. Most of the dust falls into the collection bag but a huge ring of dust falls onto the top of the cyclone. This dust is harder to deal with. You can beat on the side to get it to fall down into the bag but that still leaves alot on the cyclone. I find you have to partially remove the canister and manually scrape the pile of dust into the bag. If you leave the dust there most of it blows back into the canister. You dont have to do this very often, but its still a hassle. JET should somehow extend the paddles to scrape off the top of the cyclone to eliminate this problem. In spite of these minor points I'm very pleased with the DC1200CK and would recommend it without reservation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good quality unit with one flaw
The unique design and filtration capacity of this unit is quite impressive and appears superior to anything else on the market. The only real problem is the location of the power switch. It is located on the side of the motor, about 8 - 10 inches off of the floor. This would be awkward to reach down to even if the unit was sitting unobstructed in the middle of the shop. When you have other equipment nearby, it gets worse. It would have been nice if Jet had located the switch on the collar ring supporting the canister and collection bag.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations
I ordered the dust collector and had only a small snafu with the delivery -- the web site indicated that it shipped UPS, but it actually comes by freight (read: you need to stay home and get it off the truck yourself).

The collector itself is just terrific. Had some small problems with dust leaks around the bottom of the cannister (I'd recommend running a bunch of redwood through it -- makes it easy to find the leaks!).

I'm running it with quite a bit of dust collection pipe and hose, and despite the distance, it's been able to suck up everything I've thrown at it. Ran almost a thousand linear feet of cedar through my planer last weekend (yielding over 100 gallons of shavings!) and the collector didn't even blink. As with any dust collector, I'd highly recommend a separator to go with it.

I'd buy one again. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great design
The new canister filter on this dust collector is a great design and seems to work really well. The product was back ordered for two months, but it finally arrived. Packaging was excellent and everything was in perfect condition upon arrival. Assembly was easy and everything lined up fine. This model has a 2HP motor pre-wired for single phase 220 and draws 8 amps, so I installed a new outlet on a separate circuit specifically for the dust collector. While cutting some Padouk wood (a bright reddish-orange colored wood) I noticed a few areas where dust was leaking out of the system. Since the sawdust is such a bright color, it shows up easily on the Jet paint. One of the leaks was where a weld was not complete, leaving a 1/16" gap between two parts. I caulked this hole and checked the machine for any other leaks. Tightening the hose clamps stopped the other leaks. You may want to run a similar test with your dust collector by cutting some different colored wood. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product. ... Read more

Unveil this secret weapon with the flick of a switch and establish a strong beachhead against dust in your home or shop. Powered by a 1-horsepower, 115-volt induction motor, Jet's 650 cfm dust collector comes with 2.67-cubic-foot bags that grab particles 30 microns and larger. The 9-3/4-inch steel blower wheel is stout enough to handle larger particle-producing applications. The entire unit sits conveniently on easy-to-roll casters, so moving it around the shop is no problem. A unique feature separating Jet's dust collectors from the competition is how easily the lower bag can be removed and reattached. There's a handy flexible metal band that snaps quickly into place--which is a hundred times easier than wrestling with cinch straps. The machine stands only 66 inches tall and is ideal for small shops. There's only one dust port; you have to set up to larger models for two ports. A great carpenter once referred to sawdust as "the indomitable scourge silently mounting in woodshops nationwide." Well, now there's something you can do about it. --Justin Paul ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You probably want more power.
The Jet DC-650 is a nice dust collector, but you may want a bit more power. I use the unit in a home shop collection system using 40 feet of 4" rigid sewer pipe as ducting and 4" flexible duct connections to the machines. The DC-650 is remarkably quiet, and provides sufficient collection for one machine (one open gate) at a time (even the table saw and jointer). I also have a 24" floor sweep that is sufficiently powered by the DC-650. Keep in mind that the DC-650 requires all of a 15 amp circuit. Buy a more powerful unit if you can, but make sure that you have a dedicated circuit with enough amperage to run it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent collector for a small shop
I bought a Jet DC-650 from Tool Crib in December 99 and I couldn't be more pleased with it's performance. My shop co-exists with the family automobile in a two car garage. The collector is attached to one machine at a time with a 10ft flex hose; in this mode of use, it has all the power that's needed. Before I got this machine, I'd do almost anything to avoid using my thickness planer - cleaning up the mess often took longer than than the planing! And to a lesser degree, the same could be said about my jointer. Without a controlled sampling, I'd estimate that the collector easily captures better than 99.5% of the dust from these machines. Dust collection from my contractors style table saw isn't quite as efficient, but that was expected. I still capture well over 60% of the dust from it. The air is cleaner, the garage is much cleaner, and cleanup time is a fraction of what it once was. I don't fully agree with the notion that bag emptying is a snap; even with improvements to the clamping system, it's still a "pain in the butt" (and I think this comment can probably be generalized to all the Taiwanese made single stage units). This prompted me to add a first stage separator. I use the one built around a 30 gal fiber drum that's sold by Highland Hardware. Now I collect probably 6 times as much material before emptying the drum and bag - and I've devised a method of capturing a 30 gal trash bag inside the first stage drum so emptying it is truly a snap. You don't have to use these machines as they come out of the box; you can put the DC-650 on a larger base that accomodates a first stage separator and a method for holding and transporting the attached flex hose. It's generally agreed that the ultimate dust collector is some configuration of a cyclone, but I don't know where one of these can be found for the money that will equal the mobility and performance of the DC-650. It's very simply an outstanding machine for a very modest price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Crick in the neck - Engineers rarely use their own products
I bought this for a one person shop. My original intent was to have one hose and pull it to the tool I was using.

1st, If you plan to use cheaper hose in a one tool per time system, the fact that the in-feed is on top of the unit, the weight of the hose will crimp thinner hoses.

2nd, this sucker does not roll for beans. it has 4 wheels two are fixed and to rotate, if you happen to be pulling in the direction that the rear wheels are pointing (Rarely are you pulling to where you already are) you're good, if not your in trouble.

I ran a more permanent system and with blast gates it has plenty of power to run jointers, planers router tables. Just my
observations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful but just part of a system for good results
I have decided to take the really small trouble to move the hose from tool to tool, since it is just me there and I have organized the major tools (table saw, planer, jointer) so they have their rear ends facing the same direction. This seems to work fine. The 4" hose is easy to move and slip onto each tool when I am going to use it, even for a few cuts.
I have added a garbage can pre-collector, so it is a 2-stage system. It is imperfect, even with lots of duct tape, but I am satisfied with the system so far. Maybe because I have been around a while and know things never work as well as illustrated in the catalogs and magazines. It is a GREAT improvement over what I had before (broom and shop vac). I got a Shaker 1 micron bag (on sale at Rockler in January) for the Jet and that seems to be a major improvement. Also I am adding a small Lee Valley air cleaner to snarf up the ambient fine stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Small Shop!
This Jet 650 has the cfm capacity to handle any single shop tool - table saw, jointer, planer, router table etc. And its extremely quiet. If you have a 200sf shop as I do, then this is about the max you can put in it. Due to the limited size of the unit, you will have to empty the collection bag frequently if you make a lot of sawdust. That and having to move the hose from one tool to the next are the only things I wish I could change. Maybe a new 400sf shop is what I need. ... Read more

If you're doing serious woodworking at home or in a small professional shop, JET's 1-1/2-horsepower dust collector is right up your alley. JET has taken an already fantastic system that collects 7.36 cubic feet of material at 30 microns and larger and upgraded it to accept the optional canister-style filter, which traps everything down to 2 microns. The 1-1/2-horsepower motor moves air at 1,100 cubic feet per minute. As a rule, JET systems run quieter than other dust collectors we've used, but we still recommend ear protection, considering you'll be running it in conjunction with a saw, planer, sander, or other power tool. Unlike other systems, this one offers 4- and 6-inch inch ports. Another nice touch: the collector comes mounted on casters for easy maneuvering. 3-0 out of 5 stars look elsewhere
ok unit but too much money for just the name. Grizzly has a 2 hp unit with a .3 micron bag & a seperator for less money

4-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to show 4 1/2 but no option for that
I received this item about 2 weeks ago. Again Amazon delievery time was faster than promised. However, the box was a disaster, and I really expected damage on the inside - but there was none. This went together as advertised with no fit issues. But, the paint job was NOT what others have claimed on Jet tools. It has bare spots where the poweder coating was obviously never applied - these are not rub marks. This is down to the primer, not bare metal thank goodness. It has a 6" to 4" intake Y, with a plug for one side - the plug retaining strap was broken and of such cheap quality plastic it is not repairable - bring on the electrician's tape. The intake plate did fit snuggly against the impeller housing and there appear to be no leaks. The unit does run exceptionally quietly as reported by others, less than the 80 dcb I think someone else mentioned. I don't have a way to test the CFM so don't know if I'm getting anywhere near 1100 CFM, doubt it's that much, but it is acceptable, at least comparable to 850 machines I've seen. I also purchased the Jet 4" to 2 1/2" adapter. As others have reported in other areas, this is 2 1/2" OD and so is exactly the same opening size as the tools (bandsaw) with a 2 1/2" dust port. The adapter is worthless and does not fit a tool on the 2 1/2" size. I finally found a rubber sleeve at Home Depot that would go over both the adapter and tool ends and allow me to join them! Whew - someone please suggest a source for a quality adapter that is 2 1/2" ID so it will go over the tool ports!

4-0 out of 5 stars This baby sucks !!!
I have had this dust collector for about a year now, and it probably has 600 to 800 hours of operation on it.

I have it connected to 6 stationary power tools, and with a little bit of common sense as to installing and using blast gates, it has exceeded my expectations. With the TEFC motor, operating on 120 VAC, it works well, and I have had no problems drawing in sufficent air to to carry away even the troublesome debris generated from thickness planing. Even after several hours of running, the motor is hardly warm to the touch, and we all know that heat is what kills motors.

I had initially planned to rewire it to 220, but it runs fine on 120, so I have not bothered.

My only gripe is the 30 micron bags. If you keep the 30 micron bags, get a seperate air filter, or buy the 10 micron bags. I make a lot of jigs, and use MDF almost exclusively, and I have read that MDF dust is really bad for your lungs, and the 30 micron bags won't collect enough of the dust to keep my wife from worrying. I solved that with the Jet air filter for all the 30 micron and below material.

The 1100 dust collector, in conjunction with the Jet airfilter keep my basement shop amazingly dust free.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Dust Collection System
A don't know why I waited so long to put a dust collection system into my garage shop, but I am glad I did, and the Jet DC1100 is a perfect system for me. I can't beleive how quiet it is when running, and the suction power that it generates. It pulls some of my smaller scroll saw pieces 6 inches off the work bench.

The setup was easy, took about 1 hour. Directions and diagrams were very helpful. I'm not one to usually read the directions, thus the diagrams were really the most helpful. It was put into use almost immediately with my drum sander and router. Didn't take too long for the bag to fill up, and it really wasn't too bad to remove. However, I have since purchased a W1049 Dust Collection Separator, which separators the larger dust particles into a garbage can, which in turn, is very easy to empty.

I find myself leaving the machine on, because it is so quiet. I have a setup with blast gates at each machine, so it is just a matter of opening and closing each blast gate as I work on various operations and projects.

I really wanted a powerful machine, but did not want to special wire my garage with a 230 volt system. This DC works just fine on the 115 volt system. I have it plugged into a 20 amp circuit, with the overhead lights, and have not had one blown fuse.

Of all the research I did, the Delta, Jet, Ridgid and PSI, they all had about the same features and the same price, I'm glad I purchased the Jet system

4-0 out of 5 stars Jet 1100A Dust collector
I had no problems assembling the unit but when I went to convert the moter wiring from 115 volts to 230 volts which I needed for my shop, I found that the wiring diagram in the manual was wrong. After almost burning up the motor (smoke and fluid from the capacitor came out before I could hit the kill switch), I found a small diagram inside the motor wiring cover which is correct. Even then, when I started it the motor emitted a screeching sound. well, I thought the motor was kaput and envisioned a long hassle getting Jet to send me a new motor, but on a hunch I took off the end motor cover to see if there was anything scraping. I found the motor self cooling fan was loose and spinning on the shaft. The set screw was laying in the bottom of the motor cover. After correcting this the unit came up to speed and performed as expected.
I logged on to the Jet website and was able to download the manual. The wiring diagram has now been corrected. One should always go by the diagram on the equipment since it is more likely to be right. I like having the dust collector but the 30 micron bag doesn't do the job. I will probably have to buy the 2 micron canister filter to have a viable collection system. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great
Just recieved it today and it was easy to install. I have a DC-1200 dust collector, so it did not require the retro kit. Right away I noticed an improvement in performance. My floor sweep is the furthest away (50 feet), and it sucked up the chips faster than with the 5 micron bag I was using. I think the canister and the retro kit should be sold seperately, because I now have a housing kit that I have no use for. the canister itself will fit directly on any 20 inch dust collector. It is also easier to clean than the filter bags. You just turn the handle at the top, and a flapper inside knocks loose the dust. If you are considering a dust collector, get one with the canister filter.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
After a bad experience with a local woodworker's supply I ordered the conversion kit from Amazon. I have to admit I was surprised at how quick the item shipped. It arrived in good shape and only took a short time to change out the parts and set the canister in place. I haven't had the opportunity to use the dust collector much since the conversion, but did cleanout the sawdust in the bottom of my table saw and found that everything seems to work as advertised. I also really like the clear collector bags, as in the past I had to check the bottom cloth bag by shaking it to see how full it had become. Now it just takes a quick glance. If this thing works as well as I hope, I think the shop will be considerably cleaner and the dust collection more efficient since the canister claims to give a better air flow and filter finer particles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea but pricey!
I have a 3 HP Powermatic dust collector which has 4 bags. I ordered two retrofit kits when they were on back order. The estimated delivery time was well over a month but I received them in about two weeks. They both arrived undamaged, complete, and on the same day. If you have a dust collector other than a Jet DC1100 you receive an adapter that you can't use but I didn't realize this when I ordered these filters and maybe you can purchase them separately at a reduced price.

The filters fit perfectely on my dust collector and seal very well. A very simple installation! Although I like these filters and they greatly reduce the height of my dust collector (by over 3 ft.) and increase performance. I think the price is a little high. My dust collector complete cost approx. $600, these two kits were [less]. I would recommend buying a Jet dust collector with the cannister filter already installed instead of separately (the cost is comparable to dust collectors with bags). I bought these because my collector is in a shed behind
my workshop with a 7' ceiling. I had no choice except to put it in my already cramped workshop.

I think Jet has a good idea here and if you are in the market for a new dust collector I would certainly check out the new Jet cannister filter models. I have not used this filter long enough to give any advice on how well it holds up but it seems well made. I have to wonder if the filter media would eventually become clogged at least partially with fine sanding dust that the flappers would not loosen. I know that bags lose some of their efficiency after a lot of use because of fine particles lodged in the pores of the material, but new bags don't cost $189.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dust Cannister retrofit revisited
I wrote my earlier review when I received a box that contained only the 20" retrofit, which is the middle part of the dust collector. The converter allows you to attach a clear plastic bag at the bottom of the dust collector, replacing the felt bag, This makes emptying the bag a breeze. Just take it off, tie it off with a twistie, and put a new plastic bag in place. The bag is secured with a cloth lined snap ring, and is a huge improvement over the old metal band.

It turns out the cannister arrived the following day in a separate box, although neither the invoice or packing slip indicate there were two boxes. The nice thing about the cannister is that it is about 18" shorter than the bag it replaces, and it is a WHOLE lot less dusty. I've haven't had the chance to run this for any length of time, but just in the ease of changing the lower bag and the 2 micron filter capacity and reduced size of the cannister makes this a winner already.

1-0 out of 5 stars NOT what is pictured
I ordered the cannister that was pictured as the 20" retro kit with houseing. What I recevied was an adapter, ie. the middle of the dust collector that accepts the bottom bag and the top cannister. I have NOT received the cannister fileter. I'm trying to figure out if this is a two part shipment or if the catalog listing is just wrong. In either event, what I thought I was buying based on the picture and description is NOT what I received. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!
Bought my with a JW1049 Dust Collection Separator in an attempt to maximize its capacity. The thing works great. By-the-way, I DID receive the accesory kit that so many reviewers seem to be missing. It came in a seperate box and I have not found it all that useful (yet) but I did get it.......

2-0 out of 5 stars What you see is Not what you get
Unit does not include the flex hose, the extension arm, or the dust hood. In the June,03 tool crib catalog pg.28 the description "Packaged with adjustable extension arms, you can position the dust port exactly where you need it." This is not misleading advertising, this is false advertising. I am pretty sure there are laws concerning false advertising

2-0 out of 5 stars WATCH OUT!
When I recieved this item it contained the blower and bag ONLY! No hose. No extension arm. No dust port. All those items have to be ordered seperately.
I complainded to Amazon about this and they were very courteous and prompt in apologizing. Naturally, I was offered a full refund.
This is actually a good powerful unit. I just can't believe that JET is so cheap that they won't include a few bucks worth of cheap hardware.

1-0 out of 5 stars No excuse for 30 micron bag
OSHA and numerous physicians and industrial health experts posit the dust that does the most damage to our lungs is 10 microns or smaller. Why do so many "dust collectors" come with 30 micron bags? Answer: Because the companies that sell them are more interested in their bottom line than your health.

If you buy a dust collector like this to simply keep your work area clean, then it does the trick. If you want a clean work area AND clean lungs, don't waste your money on this unit (or any unit that doesn't have 1 micron bags).

4-0 out of 5 stars No complaints - 4.5 stars here
For a small workshop or on a jobsite, this dust collector is great. It's easy to move, powerful, and fairly quiet. I use mine on jobsites and in my garage workshop, where it takes up little room and sucks up almost everything. I use it with my planer, tablesaw, jointer, and even as a shopvac. I would have given it a 5 star rating except for the fact that there is a black plastic guard over the impeller which prevents it from collecting planer shavings well. Simply remove it and it works perfectly ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A great carpenter once referred to sawdust as "the indomitable scourge silently mounting in woodshops nationwide." Well, now you can fight back with Jet's 1,200 cfm dust collector. Running a powerful 2-horsepower induction motor on 230 volts, this handy shop tool comes standard with 7.36-cubic-foot bags that collect particles 30 microns and larger. The thickness of the 12-inch steel blower wheel is great for handling larger particle-producing applications. As is standard on most models, two 4-inch dust ports feed into a main 6-inch tube, allowing you to connect it to multiple machines. For convenience, Jet has placed the entire unit on easy-to-roll casters, so it can be moved around the shop when necessary. One unique feature separating Jet's dust collector from the competition is how easily the lower bag can be removed and reattached. The bag is held securely in place by a flexible metal band, so the bag pops in and out without the hassle of cinch straps you'll find on other models. Standing 96 inches tall and pulling 5.34 cubic feet of air, this machine is perfect for medium-to-large shops. A good dust collector, like this one, improves your workplace environment and also extends the life of your tools--two pretty compelling reasons to get one for your shop. --Justin Paul ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good start - be careful of specs - buy better bags
I've owned one for 3 years. It is connected via 4inch metal ducts to 6 machines - longest run is about 20 ft. Jet, like Delta and others, overrates CFM, especially thru 4in opening. But it does an adequate job on large particles. As advertised, the JET standard bags are rated for 30 microns. That's way too large for most dust from table saws, sanders, etc. Buy felt bags rated to 5 micron. They cost more, but your lungs will thank you. The bags will still be hard to change unless you add some hangers made of coat hangers.

I'd change my intake from the dual 4inch to a single 7 in (converter plate from Oneida and others) and the main ductwork in the shop to 6in. Then, I'd have a 4 star system. By the way, these systems are noisy.

5-0 out of 5 stars My shop is immaculate now!
I went with the DC-1200 to reduce the amperage draw on my 115V circuit, and also because it had the specs to give me plenty of versatility. My shop is pretty small, and everything is on wheels. Right now the DC can be wheeled around near whichever machine I'm using, but in the future when all is fixed, this DC unit will still have the suction to handle my planer from across the room via flex hose.

Assembly was easy, with well-written instructions. The unit was pre-wired for 230V, so no changes needed there. The lower bag is difficult to get back on without a helper, though, and the filtration of the stock bags leaves something to be desired. I'll soon be replacing them with felt bags. About the only other item on my wish list for this unit would be having the power switch mounted higher, so I don't have to bend down to the floor to turn it on or off.

Still, this unit works very well for the collection of the big stuff, and I haven't touched a broom in a while. My friends with the smaller Jet and Delta units can't make that claim. ... Read more

You can have a mighty air-filtration system, but it's only as effective as the filter you install in it. This one filters particles down to an incredible 1 micron. Your workspace will be healthier, your tools free from that fine coating of sawdust, and most important of all, your lungs will be clearer. Amazon.com Review

A good filtration system is as important as any tool in your shop, and the Jet AFS-1000 is a pretty inspired machine. Like other systems on the market, Jet's uses a two-filter process: an outer filter removes particles up to 5 microns in size and an inner, three-pocket filter traps particles as small as 1 micron. The electrostatic outer filter easily withstands three or four washings, and the inner filter can be blown clean easily with compressed air. On the power end, Jet's three-speed, 1/6-horsepower motor filters to 1044 cfm on high speed. The outer filter is well sealed and provides efficient intake. However, what really sets the AFS-1000 apart from most filtration systems is its remote control and timer features. Since these systems are most effective when placed high or hung from the ceiling, being able to control all of the unit's functions via remote control is a feature we quickly decided we wouldn't want to live without. The timer, which can also be set via remote, affords you the option to set it and forget it. --Justin Paul ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very effective piece of gear
I second other reviewers' comments about the usual high quality of Jet's fit and finish, design features of the equipment, and its effectiveness. Would like it to be quieter but that's a pretty small beef.

Some feedback for Jet would be to pack it in a heavier box with more substantial foam blocks. UPS did a number on mine that didn't look TOO bad on first inspection, but luckily I plugged the unit in and turned it on before I horsed it up and mounted it on the wall of my shop. Squirrel cage had over half an inch of runout due to bending--probably dropped pretty hard--and the whole unit vibrated. I pulled all the guts out of the housing and straightened the squirrel cage, mounting brackets, etc (found one knurled connector only finger tight). After straightening, vibration stopped and all went fine from there on.

Sideways (wall) mounting was best option in my shop and I was able to do it by myself (the unit's not that heavy but is bulky) by drilling holes for lag screws into studs and slipping 10- or 12-penny nails into the holes as temporary hangers for the unit until I could get some lag screws in.

Cleans well. I like the timer option--fire it off and forget it. This thing moves a lot of air even on low setting and also helps shop air circulation while it's cleaning--a particular benefit when you have a shop with a high ceiling and a considerable temperature differential from bottom to top. Very welcome addition; shop stays cleaner and my children and I aren't breathing as much "stuff" in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jet Air Cleaner is Excellent
I received my Jet Air cleaner in excellent condition. Unit is very quiet and has many advantages over other brands. It has a variety of mounting options (suspended from ceiling, tight against ceiling, or portable with the built in handles.) Three speed motor with remote control is nice when unit is mounted to the ceiling. timer feature is great when I want the unit to turn off automatically 2, 4, or 8 hours after I leave the shop. Standard sized filter means I don't have to pay inflated prices for replacement filters. Overall, a great product with lots of nice features and a great price. An air cleaner is an air cleaner. Don't settle for an over priced featureless model that forces you to keep buying their filters.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps air particle free
I have been using this machine for about 3 months now and really like it. I have added a furnace filter to the front which seems to extend the life of the other filters. I blow the filters off outside about once a month. I have also tried vacuming the filters off, but that clogs the vacs filter very quickly.

THe only real complaint I have is you can not set the timer on the machine, you must use the remote. No problem for me right now, but I have a feeling that the dust filter will outlast the remote.

5-0 out of 5 stars Save your lungs .. Excellent air filteration
Well, This was way bigger than I had expected , so when It arrived I had find a place in garage as my garage is only 7-8 feet tall. Since it is bulky but not heavy, I decided to hang it to ceiling with chain.
Unit was damaged when I opened the box and thought of not returning and waiting to get another one as it was not worth the time.
I cut lot of fine with 80 teeth blade and that creates lot of dust. Also it really helped me while sanding with belt sander.
I loved the remote and also timer feature. I think this is great product and if you want to save your lungs, get this one.
I used to cough after doing 1-2 hours of woodworking but since I installed it, I don't anymore. Thanks to Jet !!..

I guess shipping would have better since unit was damaged on 2 sides.

Overall, excellent buy but make sure you know the size of this unit before you buy ...

5-0 out of 5 stars What's that in my nose?
(This is a corrected review, Amazon left out the best part 1st time) I've noticed for a long time how much dust my machines would kick up during my moments of inspired creativity. It was fascinating to watch this pixie dust slowly floating through the air, gently landing everywhere like winter's first snowfall. I never thought about these benignly appearing particles, settling on every horizontal surface, were also finding their niche in my nose and lungs. While on a medical site I found an article on nasal tumors and a startling statistic that approx. 50% of patients were past or present woodworkers! Granted these tumors are not common, but the fact that nearly half were woodworkers caught my attention! The lungs yet another matter. (Light bulb turns on!) Hmmmm...maybe air filtration should soon be in the budget?

**My Jet was purchased two years ago and comparisons are to machines then. My conclusion for best choices then under $$$ were the Delta ShopMaster Model AP200, Jet AFS-1000B or JDS 750JER.

NOTE: There is a lot of science behind the field of air filtration and this review in no way covers it all. I am attempting to provide some important basics only, in a confusing (often misleading?) business.

Air filters have an interesting marketing style. Performance is often measured in CFM or Cubic Feet per Minute. These numbers are often not as useful as you might think. There are at least two different CFM measurements used in determining performance, without filters and with (there's also clean/dirty filter CFM, see below). Aptly named unrestricted and restricted, savvy (or deliberately misleading?) companies give high CFMs and fail to give restricted numbers with filters attached. Would you really use your air filtration without its filters?? If you see a company touting 1000+CFM in this class, I'll bet you one of my routers that it's the motor/fan only. Yes, it's cheap marketing but even some of the "big boys" advertise this way. Do your homework carefully! Expect 400-700 CFMs of restricted air with these machines. It's difficult to find comprehensive specs and the following with "??" are areas I could not find corresponding numbers.

CFM: Jet (3 speeds) has unrestricted CFMs of 1044, 702, 556 utilizing a 1/5 hp motor (Reference: manual, date 5/01). Restricted CFMs are approx. 650, 550, 450. The Delta (single speed) gives "Maximum" (unrestricted?) CFM of 850 and restricted CFM of ??, with a 1/8 hp motor. The JDS (3 speeds) has unrestricted CFMs of 1050, ??, ??, with restricted CFMs of 750, ??, 200 utilizing a 1/4 hp motor. American Woodworker, October 2003, pgs 76-83, tried to perform "real world" tests by introducing 80 grams (100micron to less than 1micron size) of particles at 16 gram increment loads (six loads total). Results of clean/dirty filter CFMs: Jet=674/383, Delta=582/402 and JDS=664/514. The second number is a "fully loaded" filter. Average CFMs (mean value of all six loads) were Jet=528, Delta=498, and JDS=589.

Convenience: These units should be hung from the ceiling for maximum efficiency. Jet and JDS come with remote controls and it is VERY convenient if in doubt (The newer Delta 50-875 now has one. Hmmmm...wonder why?). Multi speeds are also nice and again only in the Jet and JDS.

Filter Options: 1. Carbon filter: This feature to me is more hype than useful. It is designed primarily to control odors (and not chemical vapors as some companies might claim) and it does that marginally. Maybe in commercial size units it's useful but our "little machines" are for particulate capture and not much else. Why? For a carbon filter to be truly useful requires a large amount of carbon filtrate. It is measured in lbs, yes that's pounds in the filter industry. To be truly effective you would need a good 10 lbs or more of activated carbon and must be changed every few years regardless of use. No optional filters come close to this weight. If you find one, good luck strapping it to the front of your machine! 2. HEPA filters: Another often misleading point, aimed at allergy sufferers. HEPA, standing for High Efficiency Particulate Air, is a standard for capturing sub-micron particles down to 0.3 micron in size with 99.97% efficiency or greater, but only in a "True HEPA" filter. Anything else including "HEPA filter" carries no guarantee. It must state "True HEPA". 3. Electrostatic filters: I'm not familiar with this type of option, but in higher CFM machines with a lot of air flow I have doubts that a small electrical charge will have as much impact as simply having a high quality filter to begin with.

I bought my unit two years ago, Delta has since produced the 50-875, which I might consider but is priced near the JDS. The five star rating I give the Jet is due to it's being the best value at time of purchase.

Pros:

**Good "restricted" overall performance (fully loaded: poor)
**Three speeds (Reasonably quiet: High at 69dB)
**Timer (2,4 and 8hr)
**Remote (Speed Control, Off/On and Timer)
**Price (approx. a Jackson more than Delta, nearly a Franklin less than JDS!!)
**Solid construction

Cons:

**Small remote, easy to lose (I have magnetic tape on mine. Stick it anywhere!)
**Relatively expensive filter replacements (most brands)
**Heavy and bulky (most brands)
**JDS is made in America with lifetime warranty, unfortunately not so for Jet (or Delta if I'm correct).

Summary: There are better machines under three Franklins now, but for $$ the Jet is STILL a contender. Breathe easier knowing ANY filter machine is better than none, unless you like coughing up wood dough. Birch sandwich anyone? ... Read more

Added filtering area allows for better airflow, so a clear plastic collection bag can be used without reducing the machine's 1,100 cfm. This model has a 1-1/2-horsepower motor, comes on a stand with casters, and has connections for up to two 4-inch dust collection hoses. It's a great choice for keeping dust under control in a small shop. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars State of The Art Dust Collector at a Great Price
Ordered this DC-1100CK Dust Collector System through Amazon.com. Took only 8 days to arrive from date of order. The system was delivered by UPS Ground. There were two large separate boxes that were unloaded and left by my garage door. All items were extremely well packaged and there were no damaged parts. Assembly of the entire unit took about 1 1/2 hours with no interruptions. The assembly instructions provided by Jet are excellent. The canister filter system is state-of-the-art all the way. Simply amazing at how efficient this system is. Absolutely no dust whatsover escapes from my table saw, band saw or radial arm saw when attached to the DC-1100CK system. Clear plastic collection bags are a great plus as you know when they need to be emptied or replaced. Jet even included 4 extra bags with the shipment!!! I did not have any of the leaks at the entrance port of the unit that other reviewers have noted in the past. I imagine that Jet has corrected the problem at the factory. My unit was perfect in every way. Very high quality components and great paint finish. This unit provides a huge amount of suction and is very quiet in operation. The large, high grade casters on the base of the unit make it very easy to move around my shop from tool to tool. If you are considering a dust collection system for your shop, this is definitely the one to get!!!!! Jet has a real winner here!!!! Cudos to them for a job extremely well done!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait
This unit has some features that distinguish it from other "brand name" dust collectors in the 1.5H.P., 1,100CFM, 115/230-volt motor arena. Namely, it's canister filter. This is a new design by Jet. The canister will filter microparticles down to 2 microns. You simply turn the canister handles which are attached to two flappers inside the canister for cleaning. The dust particles will drop down into the "clear" collection bag. The clear bag eliminates the guesswork for bag changes.

The bag is held in place by a "flippy" hoop. Inserting the hoop takes some getting used to. The unit runs relatively quitly compared to others. If you have a basement shop, like me, this Jet also has the lowest headroom when compared to other manufacturers.

The unit took roughly two hours to assemble with interuptions. The Jet will easily handle two pieces of equipment at a time, with a dust collection separator. The efficiency is lowered as the collection bag and separator get full (50%).

I have the same air leak as other reviewers mentioned. I would think that this would be apparant to Jet engineers when testing/rating this unit (1,100CFM's with the leak?), but this is my only complaint.

One added gripe: I have to wait for the motor to get up to full speed before turning on other equipment to avoid tripping the 15amp breaker. The breaker will also trip when cutting thick stock on my table saw, and will not run with my jointer at all. This requires running an extension cord to an outlet on a different circuit not in use, increasing set-up time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product
My only complaint is the assembly instructions just fell apart. Everything was fine and accurate until it started talking about assembling imaginary parts that don't exist for this model. It's as if they just used their assembly instructions from some other model dust collector.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Return Air Filtration
I like the way this machine performs, and I don't have any objection to it's function at all. I am pleased with the level of noise it omits, the controls are easy to get at, the wheels on the base are fine, and I really like the fact that air coming back out of the filter is clean and pure. I do however feel the basic structure is a bit flimsy maybe. The base is fine but the struts that locate the upper structure on the base could use some beefing up, or there should be more of them maybe. You feel you must be careful when moving it around, it feels flimsy to say the least, and you worry you might bend or break something. Otherwise it is a fine addition to our shop. It sure takes care of a lot that would otherwise be a huge mess, and it really cleans the return air, which is quite handy to say the least.
HardlyWorkin

5-0 out of 5 stars Jet DC-1100CK Dust Collector w/ Filter Canister
I researched numerous dust collectors after grappling with a decision to buy one for three years. I was (and my wife) was frustrated with the mess my planer and joiner made. I finally made the purchase and have not regretted it one day! The collector is very powerful making my workshop easy to clean up. The collector works as advertised with a clean dust capture in the bag. The unit is well crafted and surprisingly easy to assemble with all bolt holes lining up. The provided plastic bags are expensive, but they easily transfer the contents to the Heavy Duty Lawn bags bought from The Home Depot.

I have recommended this unit to all my woodworking friends who are indecisive whether or not they really work. You will not be disappointed one bit - I was not - and I am very hard to please. Enjoy! ... Read more

These days, clean air is a must for any shop. JET's three-speedair filtration system is a great buy for a midsize shop, cycling allthe air in a 40-by-40-by-10-foot room up to 14 times in one hour.Unlike many of the competing products, JET's air cleaner comes with aremote control, allowing you to turn it on and off, or switch from lowto medium to high, from anywhere in your shop. (This is especiallyhandy if you mount your system to an out-of-the-way section of ceiling, where it might not be so easy to reach.) JET's air cleaner also has abuilt-in timer with settings of two, four, and eight hours. You canleave the system on and go to bed and it will turn itself off while yousleep. You'll also be pleased with how quiet this system is. Even whenset on high, the noise is comparable to that of a standard floor fanblowing through a living room. It's really just background white noise, and isn't a distraction at all. The system's three filters--anelectrostatic filter, the eight-bag inner filter, and the diffuserfilter--combine to remove 99 percent of all particles 5 microns in sizeand 85 percent of particles 1 micron in size. Added filtering area allows for better airflow, so a clear plastic collection bag can be used without reducing the machine's 1,900 cfm. Removing the filter and shaking it out or beating it is not required. This model has a 3-horsepower motor, comes with two canister filters on a stand with casters, has connections for up to two 4-inch dust collection hoses, and is a great choice for larger shop setups. --Brian Trinen ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I got this dust collector from Southern Tool and it really 'sucks' ( for some reason Southern Tool was shipping these units 2 weeks before anybody else. The new filters canisters clearly out performs the old bags. Being only 73" tall is another benefit, it will fit in everyones shop. The machine was easy to assemble. One of the filters had been dropped during shipping and had a dent which might cause leakage. I contacted JET and they promtly shipped me a new canister. I have nothing but positive to say about this machine! ... Read more

A great carpenter once referred to sawdust as "the indomitable scourge silently mounting in woodshops nationwide." Well, now you can fight back with Jet's 1,100 cfm dust collector. Running a powerful 1-1/2-horsepower induction motor on either 115 or 230 volts, this handy shop tool comes standard with 7.36-cubic-foot bags that collect particles 30 microns and larger. The bag is held securely in place by a flexible metal band, so it pops in and out without the hassle of cinch straps you'll find on other models. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet and Powerful
This dust collector works as well as others I have seen in use. Its a pretty good value for the money when comparing the performance with other comperable machines. It is amazingly quiet to point that I don't bother turning it off if I have multiple operations to perform in the shop. If you want to leave the machine in one spot and not move it around the shop, get the highest horsepower you can afford. This machine will allow some extensive ductwork to be hooked up without any decrease in performance. The 600 cfm machines can really only successfully be used with one hose hooked up to one machine at a time. My only gripe is the amount of dust leaks at some of the joints at the machine's connections. Some latex caulk at the metal to metal joints and some felt at the bag to metal joints and the problems were solved. I agree with everyone. You should spend the extra 75 to 90 bucks to get the 5 micron bags. The standard 30 micron bags let too much fine dust into the air that even my air scrubber isn't able to keep up with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great dust collector!
I purchased two of these units and have been using them for the past 14 months. The dust collectors arrived in good condition and were complete. Assembly was relatively straight forward and took approximately 45 minutes per unit. These units have plenty of suction. One of my units provides collection for a Jet 15" planer, a Jet 6" jointer, a drill press and a spindle sander. The other unit provides collection for a table saw, a radial saw, compound miter saw, band saw, and a drum sander. Both units have performed reliably. The controls are easy to access and operate. I haven't had the problem some other reviewers have had with the metal band for the top bag. You do get some very fine dust seeping out between the top bag and the drum, but not a lot. I use two Jet air filtration units in my shop also, and between those and the Jet DCs my shop stays very very clean. The units run smoothly and are relatively quiet. If you plan to hook up to a planer, you need to run a cyclone separator ahead of the DC otherwise you'll be emptying your DC bags often. The lower bag is relatively easy to remove as long as you don't accidently overfill it, which is easy to do if you aren't paying attention to the DC. The DC will just keep sucking stuff up and begin to fill the top bag too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Chip Collector.
The Unit was easy to assemble. I had trouble finding the base which turned out to be at the bottom of the box. It was bent, and it is not a thin gauge either. With a great deal of effort I half bent it back into shape. The rest of the assembly went well. I wired it for 250V as per the manual and plugged it in and turned it on. KRRRRRRRRUUUUUNNNNNNNK. Ouch! A loud noise caused me to immediately turn it off. After double checking the wiring I realized that the manual had the incorrect wiring diagram for 250V and that there was a correct diagram on the motor itself. Nice unit, professional paint, fit and finish. It is not quiet but does collect dust and chips pretty well. I will invest in a 5 micron bag next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quiet? Not Mine.
I don't think this tool can be described as "Quiet". Yes. It has less noise than my ear piercing Ridgid shop vaccume, but I wouldn't call it quiet. I am not sure how can you do a normal conversation with this machine on. I have two other problems. The top bag has dusk leaking at the sealing and lower bag is very difficult to remove.

Am I just unlucky?

5-0 out of 5 stars It's what I expected plus...

...As far as the Dust Collector is concerned, it assembles easily in about 45 minutes. I've never worked with one before, but it is so much more quiet than the shop vac. That alone makes it desirable. I will need to do much work to mount ductwork, blast gates and connector hoses before I can fully evaluate it. Just sticking the hose in the wake of the radial saw discharge makes a measurable difference. The fit and finish are great. No hassles with the assembly and it looks good in the shop. Good first experience with Jet and I would recommend Amazon to anyone. ... Read more
