3-0 out of 5 stars Great, most of the time.
I am a roofer and I am constantly running two roofing nailers off my compressor. This compressor is great for the fact that it can keep up with two proffesional roofers all day long. It seems to drink the oil and has a hard time getting started on really cold days. Emglo needs to come up with a better idea for the air filter, it's cheap plastic that breaks and comes off every time it is slightly bumped. I've had to replace the air filter on mine three times now. Other than that I run my compressor all day long with no major mechanical problems.

3-0 out of 5 stars AM700 vs AM780 and M790
Upon inspection the AM700 is clearly a consumer model compressor. The price is very good but I wouldn't expect the run time that we see with the am78 pump assemblies used on the AM780 and the M790's. The 700 has a visibly less expensive cylinder and motor assembly. It also requires more oil than the am78 pump, not to mention the cheezy air filter. I wouldn't expect this unit to survive on the construction site as the 780's and 790's have in the past years. Although as a consumer model I believe this unit is far superior to an oiless compressor.

I will give Emglo credit for finally packaging oil with their hand carry units.

Thanks, Ed Smith ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great But ...
I have several compressors, but since this is light and runs on 15 am circuits it is the preference for small volume needs such as small nail guns, tires and especially jobs where transporting the compressor is required. It performed almost flawlessly for more than a decade - the exception being cold weather performance - they start poorly (or not at all) when cold. Also, one should be aware that they only produce a limited SCFM and are suitable for only low CFM applications. Example, a framer and helper will easily outrun the production capability of the compressor with one gun.

Now to my issue. On a hot day with poor air circulation the motor start capacitor blew. Since this was the only issue with the tool I decided it made sense to repair. Big mistake. My standard motor repair shop wouldn't touch it. The Emglo repair center wanted an exhorbitant amount for the capacitor ($$). I bought an equivelent capacitor over the web ($$ +s&h) only to have that blow after about a month of use under hard load. The time I spent calling around and shopping for the replacement part far exceeded the value of simply replacing the compressor unit. And of course now I now have low confidence in the reliability.

And this is my big issue with these direct drive units. The advantages of convenience, weight and maintenance free performance come at a price. They are simply not serviceable. Expect a few years of use and then replacement when the first major component fails.

5-0 out of 5 stars 11 Yrs. and Still going
I can't say enough good things about this design. I have several units in daily service with the oldest being over 10 years now. Thst unit has been [everywhere] and back more than once, and it keeps on going. I'm almost going out of my way to kill this thing and it just won't die. I'll never buy anything but Emglo.

5-0 out of 5 stars CONTRACTOR COMPRESSER DREAM
I HAVE OWNED TWO OF THESE WONDERFUL EMGLOW COMPRESSERS AND THE ONE I AM USING HAS RAN FOR FIVE YEAR THE ONLY TROUBLE I HAVE EVER HAD WAS WITH THE PRESURE TUBE THAT RUNS TO THE CONTROL VALVE POPED OFF AND I HAD TO REPLACE THE PLASTIC 1/4 HOSE WITH A NEW COPPER ONE TOTAL COST OF ZIP . DOWN TIME ZIP DAY IN AND OUT YEAR AFTER YEAR ENOUGH AIR TO RUN TWO FRAMERS AT A GOOD RATE OF PACE . THIS IS A TROUBLE FREE LIGHT WEIGHT COMPRESSER THAT WON'T HURT YOUR BACK HAULING IT IN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK DAY AFTER DAY FOR YEARS . BUY IT AND ENJOY THE YEARS OF SERVICE YOU GET .PS ALSO IT WILL RUN ON REG HOUSE HOLD 15 AMP BREAKER AND WILL RUN IN VERY COLD WEATHER . GOD BLESS A AND HAVE A GREAT DAY

4-0 out of 5 stars The compressor I've aways wanted.
I have been looking for a small compressor for my home shop and after an exhastive search I have found it. I will be using it mostly for home project framing and finish nailing. So far the compressor has exceeded my expectations. It features easy to read and use gauges and valves, is light weight and balanced for easy carrying, and best of all, is made in the USA! The oil bath crankcase should provide me with the longevity I am looking for. One minor complaint concerns the lack of a hose coupling. It is a small and inexpesive item but one of those nice touches that would give Emglo better P.R. if it was a standard accessory. Now I feel just like Norm Abrams, if only I had more clamps... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mini Sherman Tank
I love this little tank, strong, secure, quiet, well designed, and good workmanship. It runs all day without care. The dual hookups and gauges are a nice feature, the hoses aren't anchored to the tank plumbing like on most portables

5-0 out of 5 stars 2001 Model
I just purchased a Master Series Model 800 (which is supposed to be the latest version of the 790) it is one sweet compressor. I've been running it indoors, and although it isn't exactly quiet, it makes less noise than I expected. Also, it has yet to trip a 15 amp breaker (something I was concerned about). The controls are really well placed and the dual quick connects are awesome. My finish and brad nailers hardly even make it run.

5-0 out of 5 stars good, fast compressor
This compressor is great. It rebounds very fast. When i first got mine it made a funny noise, alot like a little gas engine trying to start, and it stillmakes a sorter version the first time i turn it on.It has plenty of power. Be sure the swithch to a lighter oil in winter use, mine has triped a 15 amp circut when starting up on a cold morning.I like having the splitter for youe air hoses right in the middle of the two tanks, it eliminate a splitter which ten to leak after a while. There are nice big rummber feet on the bottom to keep it on the ground nice and sturdy. you can hardly drag it even if you try.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best portable compessor made
The first job I gave this machine the structural engineer spec'ed 16d 3 1/2 in nails and this compressor hardly even recycled. It can easily run 2 nailers with the twin connections. If you are in a cold environment like February in Michigan use the oil for cold temperatures otherwise it will trip a 15amp breaker when fired up in the morning - might sound stange but this does not happen with the cold temp oil. Great machine

2-0 out of 5 stars Defective out of the box
I was very excited to receive my Emglo M790-HC4V air compressor today. When ordering it, I really liked the size and layout of the controls and gauges. Unfortunatly, it arrived dead on arrival. After I installed the oil in the compresor crankcase and turned it on, the motor hummed loudly as though it had a shorted winding and refused to turn the compressor. I WAS NOT HAPPY. OK, now I have to return this thing... After close examination, I was surprised to see that the compressor / motor unit is mostly a white metal casting that is secured to the chassis with self tapping screws. This low cost "cheap and dirty" method of securing the unit to the frame makes me wonder abut the quality of the internal design....

Thanks Emglo but no thanks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
Good solid and dependable air compressor.
A little on the heavy side to be extremely portable but still acceptable given the power and capacity.
A worthy buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars "THE MACHINE"
THE EMGLO M800 IS THE AIR COMPRESSOR "MACHINE"TO HAVE..NO JOB IS TO SMALL OR TO BIG TO USE THE EMGLO.EASY READ DIALS,FAIRLY QUITE WHEN ITS RUNNING.ITS WORTH THE COUPLE OF XTRA DOLLARS YOU PAY THEN THE OTHER BRAND MODELS OUT THERE.DONT EVEN THINK TWICE THIS IS THE MACHINE TO HAVE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy little machine!
I bought this little guy to occasionally run my finish nailer, blow some sawdust around, and pump up a low tire every now and then. My review may not give you the info you need if you plan on using it hard. I will say it does appear to be built pretty well.

My only problem with it when it arrived was a leak in the plastic line that equalizes the pressure between the tanks. It was easy to fix. Because the fittings use air pressure to seal themselves, you can pull the line right out of the fitting when there is no pressure in the tanks. It just slips out of the O-ring in the fitting. There was a tiny chip of metal in the fitting causing the leak, so I just wiped it off and pushed the plastic line back in. Works fine and the leak is no more!

The controls are nice and easy to use, and the single handle makes it easy to carry the Emglo in one hand and the hose in the other when changing locations. One caution: Don't burn yourself on the hot intake head!

5-0 out of 5 stars Master Series - 2001 Model
I recently purchased the Master Series model 800 as my first compressor. I was aware of the reputation of Emglo and upon inspection and review of the competition, the reputation is justified. According to Emglo, the M800 is the 2001 version of the top notch M790, slightly more capacity with all the power and great Master Series features. It is an awesome machine. The controls are simple and convenient. I've been running it indoors, and although it's not exactly quiet, it makes less noise than I expected. Also, it has yet to trip a 15 amp circuit (something I was concerned about). The finish and brad nailers I've been using hardly even make it run. This is a great compressor I would recommend to anyone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Heavilly dissapointed
Product- Emglo 990 2 1/2 H. P. Compressor Reviewer: James M Dube I use to frame for a living, now i do trim . So i am use to heavy lifting, but this comoressor is the most heaviest, awkward to move around.Within two weeks of using it started falling apart on me .The hardware that holds the power cord is so inadequate,it is unbeleviable. They use a regular romex connector to hold a 10-3 cord.Needless to say i have to put it back together about every two weeks. Now let get to the real engineering feet, the mounting hardware that holds the compressor unit to the frame. There is four or five 3/16 nuts that hold it on which i have to put back on every other week. This is the worst set up i have ever seen,i am so dissapointed in Emglo product.I have bought them for years and was always satisfied.I was thingking of selling it but i would not feel good about giving my problems to someone else .I`ve built many houses for people aand always felt good walking away because i knew i did a good job . It`s called pride.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good - with provisos
Just received my M990 compressor after my local small engine repair shop recommended it over others. Good news is seems to be everything it was perported to be. Plenty of power, great pressure and set up for two air hoses right out of the box. Bad news is that it only ran for about ten minutes before I had a problem with it. Seems an internal pressure valve must have gotten a piece of trash in it and it wouldn't release enough pressure to allow the motor to restart. Called the 1-800 service number and rep. provided excellent assistance, bottom line however is that it needed to go to the local repair shop for warranty work. Would also note that when they recommend a 20 amp circuit for this unit, they mean it. On my 15 amp circuit, lights dim each time it starts up. Also, the unit is about at the limit of what one would reasonably call portable. It's heavy and awkward to carry. Made me almost regret not getting a wheeled unit. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars On The Job MUST!
This Compressor is the standard on all the job sites I have been on. Mainly because they are tough and durable. Tossed around, pushed off a truck, even run over by a truck. I've seen this compressor survive some serious blows (pardon the pun). Emglo is the way to go with compressors. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheers! Cheers! Cheers!
Bravo to Amazon.com. for offering such an excellent air compressor. I must admit, at first I thought the price was kind of costly, but the Emglo reputation finally convinced me to purchase. Once I received my compressor I have been nothing but completely satisfied. The usefulness is well worth the price. I am in the business where an air compressor is worth its weight in gold. And in the past I have seen several bargain compressors do their job but suffer and die within a years time. A friend of mine turned me on to Emglo and I have praised him ever since. Believe me you cannot go wrong. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dependible
I own a construction business and have had this compressor for a couple of years and it works non-stop without flaw. It has the power to run many nail guns simaltaneously without a drop in power and has never failed to start. As soon as you take it out of the box you can see the quality and precision that went into the manufacturing

5-0 out of 5 stars Built like a tank !
I just got this from Amazon and so far I am really impressed. It is very well built, the controls work smoothly and, like every Honda engine I have owned, it started right up. It comes completely assembled ! All you need to add is compressor oil, motor oil and gasoline. It sits low to the ground so is pretty stable (how many times have you pulled over one of the high riding compressors when you tried to get just a few more inches away. It rolls around pretty well but is a little tough on very rough ground. ... Read more
