So far, so good
We just bought our first house, and along with it a few trees, a lot of shrubs, and a couple dozen rosebushes, so I needed something good and easy-to-use. After sampling the options in the local hardware store, I decided these were the most comfortable, easiest to use, and seemingly best mechanism of the bunch. I've only been working with them for a month, but they're performing well so far.

The hold-closed latch is easy and well-placed (though it is easy to pop it unlatched if you stuff the clippers in your back pocket), the grip width is adjustable with a set screw (so small hands don't have to suffer), and the blade spread is admirable for a hand-held pruner (though adjusting the grip width does take a little off the blade spread too). The spring and other critical mechanical components are well shielded, so you won't be gumming them up with debris easily. It cuts through the rose pruning like butter and even gets through thick woody dead stuff with only a little effort. The rotating handle makes a huge difference in the comfort level, especially when cutting the the thick woody stuff.

They say buy the best you can afford, and these certainly seemed like the best option to me, and they weren't even that expensive. Certainly better to buy one pair of good pruners instead of three bad ones.

Great for small hands, light duty
Having read the reviews and being a gadget freak, I decided to get these. I figured the rotating lever would reduce the blister inducing rubbing my fingers experience when doing a lot of heavy pruning. And the power advantage would be a boon to my aging and no longer as strong hands.

Well, it does work as advertised; the finger abrasion is reduced and it requires less effort to cut a given branch with these compared to my trusty Felco pruners. BUT, two problems arose for me. First, due to the size of these pruners and the Powergear technology, the lever rotates my fingertips smack against my palm, and if I'm cutting a large branch with some serious squeezing, it does it hard enough to hurt! I do have fairly big hands, but I'm not Shaq. It is a serious annoyance for me. And second, it is not nearly as rugged as my Felco. It just isn't strong enough to cut larger woody branches that do fit between the blades and the Felco handles without strain. The cutting blade flexes and so the bypass cut doesn't happen and you have a partially cut branch with the pruners stuck in it.

I do like their precise feel for light to medium work, where I'm not squeezing hard enough to have either of the above problems. But I'd like to see Fiskars make a larger, heavier duty version of this technology. (I know they make a Powergear mini-lopper; I'd like to see a 20% bigger and heavier duty pruner)

Conclusion; if your hands aren't large and you don't intend to do heavy duty pruning, these are quite slick.

Sharp, strong, and oh so comfortable!
When I read the description, I still couldn't imagine how the handle could "rotate." But when it arrived in the mail it was obvious. I hadn't thought of it but, when one squeezes such a tool, one's fingers roll over the handle. And on this pruner, the rounded handle rolls with the fingers. This clever idea not only makes it more comfortable to squeeze, but the gearing incorporated into the design also makes it easier on the muscles.

I gave the new pruner a tough initiation by trimming some low redwood branches, and even though a few were a tad larger than the rated 3/4" -the tool bit right through them all. The grip was so comfortable, it didn't even seem like work.

blades gum up easily after repetitive use. Need to keep spraying lubricant to keep blades from gumming up. Corona Professional bypass pruners are a bit more resistant to gumming. Works well when new
I've used the Telescoping Pruning Stik for 5 months to maintain 5 25ft trees. The cutting head works well for 3/4" and thinner branches. Larger than that and the jaws often get stuck around the branch. Once while trying to free it, the plastic head came off of the aluminum pole, so now I know to rotate the entire pole around the branch instead of trying to pull it free. After freeing the jaws, I was able to reattach the head. The ball-shaped pull knob on the bottom end seats very tightly and often the entire end cap comes off while trying to free it. I think it would be easier to operate if it was a T-handle. Likewise, the upper grip would also be easier to operate if it had a lower lip or pistol grip for a more positive grip. Or replace them with some sort of lever actuator for more mechanical advantage.

For branches thicker than 3/4", I use the woodzig blade. The blade cuts on the pull stroke. The blade is tough to use on thinner, flexible branches, but works pretty quickly on thicker, stiffer branches. I haven't used the blade as much and time will tell how effective it will be as it dulls. I keep the clamp attached to the pole, but I've already lost the original screw and wing nut that holds the blade. I had attached them to the clamp for storage, but should've attached them to the blade.

While the Pruning Stik was excellent when new, all of the plastic parts seem to have loosened over time. While the pole seemed flexible when new, the looseness makes it feel even more flexible. However, nothing has broken yet and it has been much less expensive than hiring professionals to trim those same trees. If and when something does break, I will be contacting Fiskars about warranty service. I should've kept the original shipping box though as it's tough to find another box that long.

high tech tool for tree pruning
My husband has borrowed a friends Corona telescoping pruner for a couple of years now and he liked it so much he asked for one for christmas. Although the Corona got rave reviews, I gambled on this Fiskars because of the rotating cutting head which "cuts like butter" according to one reviewer. My husband used this tool last weekend and was thrilled. He said this makes the other pruner feel like a Model-T in comparison. The strap that connects to the cutter is contained within the pole and adjusts automatically when you raise or lower it. No more fiddling with a loose string. It raises and lowers effortlessly and indeed cuts through branches like butter. Best of all, the job that used to take him 2 hours took only 30 minutes. Wow.

Effortless
Delivery took six weeks. The cutting action is so effortless, I couldn't tell whether a smaller branch had been severed, as there was virtually no resistance. I only wish that A:Fewer parts were plastic B:The pull cord were longer so I could hold the stik overhead and still use it at maximum height, and C:There was a 10 foot extension to get even higher branches.

When?
I'd review this if it would ever ship. Now a month after the order and no goods. Don't believe the 1-2 weeks.

Better than I hoped...
Okay, I'm really not a tool geek. But I have to admit, I did open the box as soon as it arrived and went out back to trim a branch that towered over my head. I was really surprised! Not only does it work, but it DOES cut branches like a hot knife through butter. I mean, it really felt like that. Who knew? We can't find anything that's not to love about this caddy. The tough-as-nails fabric slips easily onto your bucket and secures literally in a second. performs well
I bought this so I could stop running back and forth to the garage to get the next tool I needed. I bought a 5 gal paint bucket at home deport (orange or white) that works great! I use the inside of the bucket for knee pads and lopers and the seed packet holder on the outside for the tags that come with my plants. I was thrilled that the water bottle holder holds a 1 liter bottle, not those tiny .5 liter ones. It has plenty of pockets for your assorted garden tools and it's made out of heavy material so I look forward to many years of use.

Send this one back to R&D...
It doesn't come with a bucket to wrap it around, so no big deal, eh? I've been to SEVEN stores looking for the right sized bucket...they're either too little or too big. The buckets I have looked at: 10 qt., 2 1/2 gallons, 3 gallons, and 5 gallons. All but the 5 gallon bucket are too small, and the 5 gallon bucket makes the belt loop S_T_R_E_T_C_H to barely meet the velcro attachment . And the hanging hoop lock is positioned right in the middle of nowhere, so it will attach to absolutely nothing, except the handle, which renders the belt loop/velcro enclosure useless. If you buy this thing, TAKE IT TO THE STORE WITH YOU to find a @$#% BUCKET IT WILL FIT! !!

Wow all I can say is "what a bucket"
This bucket has given me the freedom I need to carry my tools and instruments, with the versatility of a bucket! I love my bucket so much, I bought one for my husband(and he loves it). I ordered 10 of them to hand out at Christmas! If I was to be trapped on an island with one bucket, this would definately be it!

A Convienent Way to Carry your Gardening Tools, etc.
I like Bucket Boss - Fiskars products. This item is well thought out and well made. There are pockets sized for all your hand tools including bulb planter, a convienent "wallet" for seed pockets, a secure cell phone pouch, and even room for a squeeze drink bottle. I would also recommend getting one of Bucket Boss' Bucket Grip.

An Edge for the Older Gardener
My wife has a green fist! Yes, I know the cliche is: "my wife has a green thumb." Every living plant, vine, bush or tree she touches in her garden or around the house grows, thrives, and reproduces. Indeed, even slips from someone else's garden bursts into life when she transplants it.

Our little garden out back is a riot of color and variety and only a year ago it was a dry plot of deep, impenatrable lifeless clay. Today people suck in their breath when they walk out the patio door into her "Eden" (my name for the space).

But my wife is about to turn 70. She is plagued with migraine headaches, vertigos and is having a long convelescence from a fall that broke many things. She is slower, more deliberate in pace. Stooping is a hazard and so is running back and forth for tooks.

Durable pads - horrible straps
Thee pads were great for me this past summer and fall. I used them to lay a cobblestone driveway. They really took a beating and the pads remained unscathed. The straps on the other hand are not so durable and one of the pads is near the end of its usefulness as the strap has almost seperated. To make matters worse, the neoprene does not breathe and your knees and backs of your legs will get sweaty in warm weather. All in all, a solid product that might not stand up to very hard use.

Super-durable and Very Comfortable
That about sums it up - these pads work great for any work in the garden or around the house. My only quibble is that you'll get pretty hot underneath the neoprene straps when working outdoors in the Summer.

The Pads For All Seasons
My wife and I bought a pair of these pads in the Spring of this year. We are carpenters and organic gardeners so we have gone through countless pads in the past: gel types, hard caps, neoprene, latex, etc. All of latter have never met our needs nor fulfilled our expectations.

The Fiskars Kneepads Plus are lightweight and truly do conform to our knees. We work them on hard concrete, slate, marble, rough gravel, and clay soils in total comfort. We are both right-kneed (prosaic license)and have worn out so many Carharts that we could start a second-hand store! Now our jeans last for much longer so these pads can actually save you bucks!

The Fiskars Plus pads also stay up and do not wrap around our knees. The padding causes very little sweating and dries quickly. The elastic and hook-loop fasteners have sagged a bit after so much use but my better half is also a seamstress and has re-sewn them to new condition.

It is a rainy Autumn morning as we now head to the garden to harvest our crops before the frost....Fiskars strapped in place.

Yea,They're Pretty Good
I'm a service tech for the local phone company. I spend a lot of time on my knees, stapling wire to base boards, crawling under houses, crawling in attics. These are the knee pads I use and I've used them about 2 years. These are light weight but have just enough padding to insulate your knee from rocks or hard surfaces. It's real strong suit is that when it's time to put them on or take them off, it's really easy and fast. Plus they stay on your knees(not migrating down towards your ankles). There are cushier pads around, and pads that insulate the rock shock better but they cost a lot more or they are time consuming to put on and take off. So for ease of use, cost, and reliability I don't think you can go wrong with these.

These are essential equipment for my oval office
These pads are SO good, they could be deemed "presidential." I recently used them when broke my leg at the ankle. When I wasn't using crutches or a wheelchair, I was getting around by crawling around on my hands and knees like a six-month old. (haha, fooled you, where did you think I was going with that opening sentence, you naughty person, you?)

When I am back on my feet (literally) I intend to use these to clean the floors (not done in months) and to remove the traces of my garden which has been destroyed by the drought. Or use them while praying to the rain gods. They will be handy indeed. ... Read more

Clever, lightweight, and every neighbor wants one!
The kangaroo container is the best weed bucket I've ever used. The fact that I can hang it on a wall when not in use makes it better than any other plastic bucket I've carried around the yard. I've also lined it and used it for a trash can at beach picnics. You can even stake it down on windy days! A wonderful all purpose garden carry-all.

Do you sit & pull weeds, having to bend over again to pick up all the 'piles?' Do you awkwardly drag trash bags around the yard when trimming, while branch & twig ends punch thru the bag, then have to call for an extra hand to hold it open while you fill it? Are there TWO different versions of this item?
I recently purchased a Fiskars 94056974 30 gallon Kangaroo Container and the thing is built like a tank. My impression on how the item is supposed to be used is to open the Kangaroo, put a 30 gallon trash can liner in the Kangaroo and fill with leaves and your five year old son. Then, either make one big pile for you and your son to play in or pull the trash can liners out, tie shut (remove son first) and carry it down to the end of the drive way, so the trash guys can play in the leaves.

The item is NOT meant to be dragged across shopping center parking lots. Mine holds a full load of squished down leaves without tearing or ripping. By the way, the product is covered by a two year warranty. I didn't read about any one posting a poor review who attempted getting them resolved utilizing the warranty.

Anyway, the Fiskars 94056974 Kangaroo Container (30 Gallon) works great (like having a third hand). It is versatile as previous reviews have pointed out. An extra trash can utilizing a liner. How about using one for recycling cans? Place a 30 gallon trash liner in the Kangaroo, squish can, "he shoots he scores!!!"

I'm happy with this purchase. It's durable, engineered well, and I'm planning on buying more of both the 10 and 30 gallon models. I expect this to eventually wear out. But, it's been my experience with other Fiskar items that you get your money's worth if you use the item as it was intended.

The handle tore out of the bag the first time I used it. A very good idea, but VERY poor quality. The fabric is just not strong enough. If you buy this, DON'T use the handles, or better yet, save your money.

Great as reviues
Easy to use and a plus to all the outher reviues. Ran into a piece of barb wire last fall clearing brush for my daughter,put a nick in the cutter, broke my heart. Called fiskars got 2 new blades about $7/00 each friendly courtious service. I have been logging firewood this summer and these are about as handy as another hand. I dont know if I could break them but I have made them squeek like the log splitter

I love my loppers!
There are some purchases I've made over the years that delight me, or elicit a prayer of gratitude every time I use them. Our dishwasher comes to mind. My little Polartec hat from Land's End. My cordless drill. My Fiskars PowerGear Pro Bypass Loppers.

I've worked with many different brands of loppers, both puttering around our home and cutting brush for the park department. These are much sturdier and cut more easily than any other loppers I've used, including a very respectable model by Sandvik.

One little quibble I have is the lack of a remote control switch. ;o)

The only Lobbers To Buy
This is by far the best out there. Be sure to spend the extra money and buy this longer handle one. You will be very happy. My Mom which is 80 years old cuts with them.

The best loppers I've ever owned!
I've owned a lot of pairs of loppers and I always seem to break or bend the handles. Not so with the Fiskars. I am a strong healthy guy and I can cut through anything I can get into the jaws. This includes branches dead or alive up to 2 inches. I have been using my Fiskars for the last three years for cutting ski and hiking trails in Maine and they continue to perform better than anything I've ever used in the past. Another benefit are the bright orange handle ends. I used to tie surveyors flagging to my tools so I wouldn't loose them if I put them down in heavy brush. The Fiskars handles are always visable and easy to find inspite of my absentmindedness. The price at Amazon is the best I've seen by $10-20. Having used this tool hard for the last three summers, I don't think I will ever have to get another pair of loppers again.

Fiskar's PowerGear Loppers
I'd like to say first that the price for this item is unbelievable. I've seen it locally in a hardware store and in a gardening catalog I receive for at least $15 dollars more than the Amazon price.

The loppers are very light and the power gear makes it very easy to get the torque needed to cut through one inch to one and a half inch limbs with no sweat. I've got average strength, middle-age and arthritis and am able to enjoy cutting brush with these..mostly saplings and tree limbs that I want to clear along my driveway.

I know Fiskars is a good name in cutting shears for sewing and I hadn't realized that they also manufactured tools; but I'm extremely happy to have found this out. ... Read more

Terrific for cutting herbs and flowers!
I love these and use them all the time.

I cried when I lost mine
And then went out and replaced them immediately. Say goodbye to aching hands and wrists, and to blisters from those rubbing scissor handles. These little snips work effortlessly and come in handy for so many things it's tempting to toss the regular scissors away.

Herb Gardening
I received my pair of snips in a combination package, so I wasn't looking for them in particular. However, they have been irreplaceable in my herb garden...to cut leaves off the plant in the garden, then to take them with me to the kitchen to snip them for recipes!

I have found these snips to be great for deadheading.

This product was featured as Pruning Snips. When the package arrived, it was called "Floral Snip". It is the size of children's scissors and nowhere on the packaging is "Pruning" mentioned. Only One Regret
The Fiskars Pruning Stik is so well made and so easy to use that all the tree and brush pruning that I put off for a year was completed in one weekend. Great product and very well made. I was glad I purchased the non-telescoping model, handled 90% of my pruning requirements for branches up to the advertized 1-1/4 inches.

excellent trimmer!!! i have a couple of hedges that are "a few feet" out of reach of my cordless trimmer. i looked around for awhile and all i saw were these ENORMOUS "telescopic" trimmers with dangling strings that looked IMPOSSIBLY "un-wieldy". with the aid of my stepladder i was able to EFFORTLESSLY trim branches at the top of my tallest hedges and the lower regions of the trees in my yard. you can cut the limbs SIMPLY by pulling the "ball-end" of the trimmer OR (in closer corners) the sliding-handle midway up the shaft. IN EITHER CASE the cuts are EFFORTLESS. perhaps it's the "chain drive" of the cutting mechanism. ALL IN ALL,..this is a QUALITY tool. do you REALLY need a HEAVY "extension" trimmer that weighs in a 10-15 pounds?? (like me) maybe not. the Fiskar is 2 lbs. (tops) and is EASY to handle whilst navigating an average ladder AND it stores away easily in a closet/shed AND it cuts through moderately sized twigs and limbs LIKE BUTTER . PERFECT i say...just PERFECT.

Here's one thats not gonna break!
I had a cable driven long pruner, and besides the fact that it ... near broke my hand to clip a large branch with it, the thing was fragile. I used to live on nearly and acre of property with a row of pines along the back. They would get all brown near the bottom so I would try and prune them up to about the point where they could get enough sun to stay green. To do that you need a pruner with a little reach to it?

I saw this model on TV and hunted it down, finding it first on Amazon. I could barely believe the price quoted on the TV show, (it wasn't a commercial, it was a how-to show) they said the stick only cost about [$$$]. Its not quite that cheap, but the quality here is excellent. It uses a chain, not unlike a bike chain, to drive the extended cutter. It uses a slider, leverage system to pull the chain to make the cuts. The cutting blades themselves are very sharp and can be adjusted to any angle. This becomes an important concern when you have about a dozen pine trees to trip.

The stick will also do fine when you don't need the extended length. Remember those hedge trimmers that looked like a huge pair of scissors? I used to hurt my wrists every year, trying to get enough momentum to trim the bushes in front of the house I was renting. If you tried to cut too, slow it would get stuck, too fast, and the handles would stop abruptly hurting my wrists! This cutter, although smaller than a hedge trimmer, cut so quick and easily that it made trimming the bushes a pleasure. I could even get lazy, and sit down in a chair, and do them from a distance. Try that with your electric model! The bushes never shaped up so well before.

The blades will cut close to a one-inch branch, and I haven't had to sharpen it yet. Just keep the chain free of dirt, and keep a little mower oil on it, or cycle spray and it continues to work like new. Sometimes they just make a tool that becomes the defacto standard for a while, and for my money this is it. Don't risk cutting your arm off with a chainsaw. The best all-around medium-sized lopper
This is Fiskars model # 96276935. I bought model # 96276949, which, through close examination of photos, appears to be identical (difference might be the retailers it's sold to, or perhaps country of origin -- which, BTW, on mine, was unfortunately [illegally?] not listed anywhere).

I bought this lopper because of the "gearing" or as I call it, "mechanical advantage", or as some others call it, "bypass" feature. Basically "gears down" your movement to make every stroke much more powerful, like a truck shifting into a special low gear to tow. And it really works great. Not only that, the nyglass handles make the whole unit extremely lightweight. This model is cheaper than the bigger version because it's smaller, which is an advantage for most home users -- easier to store, lighter weight and smaller size make it easier to get into the brush and awkward positions. This lopper will take surprisingly wide sticks for its size -- anything within reason, and maybe a little more. But the best part is that if you can fit it into its mouth, you will be able to cut what's inside, even if you are elderly. This is not true on many other loppers, even for strong people, especially on those "old school" loppers (you know what I'm talking about), and, even worse, "clippers" with that dreaded "lopping notch" which never worked right.

My friend who is a gunsmith and knows more about metals than anyone I know, doesn't like the fact that the blades are made out of stainless steel. He says stainless dulls quickly on greenery, which surprised me, because stainless is the hardest common metal. He does think fiskars garden/flower snips are the best made, though. I am personally glad the blades are stainless though, because I left it out for a few days with moisture, and there was no rust. Plus, the cutting blade is coated with a 'non-stick' coating, and just about everybody who buys this medium-sized model is not using them for professional purposes, just around the house. I keep the blades oiled up and upon doing 2 medium-sized jobs so far the blades seem just as sharp and I expect that to continue. The blades are replaceable anyway with two simple nuts, and the blades were very sharp from the factory, which again is not always the case with other mfrs. The whole unit, though lightweight, feels very solid and has very tight tolerances -- shake it and twist it, and there is little to no rattle or play -- very impressive. The light weight is something most people overlook when shopping for loppers -- again, good for everybody, but especially seniors. I also like the look. I find the actual shape of the handles works well, too. I don't miss the foam handgrip found on some huge loppers.

The blades are very curved, and there must be a reason for this, but it can make getting larger pieces a bit trickier to get in, especially in an awkward, overgrown bush. No biggie. I do think the biggest room for improvement would be the placement of a rubber or plastic shock absorber where the metal pieces meet when fully closed, to make it easier on the user in terms of vibration. I took a piece of folded-up duct tape and duct-taped the small wad to that connection point to decrease vibration. It's a little messy and needs redoing every job or so but can help make the job painless, especially for those with arthritis or joint or bone pain. Even without that "mod", the loppers perform very well, and I think most people wouldn't see a problem there, though I do. Fiskars' high-end (big) loppers do have the rubber or plastic bumpers.

I bought mine from Lowe's because I needed them immediately, but these at Amazon are a little cheaper, with the free super saver shipping, and Amazon's return policy is actually almost certainly more liberal. The previous Amazon review helped me come to my conclusion, and I think Amazon is the world's best online retailer and ecommerce website. Though completely email-based, I have had very good customer service which has gone above to exceed my expectations when returns were needed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these from Amazon, especially if your job can wait a few days. For most jobs, I think this medium size will better-suit most people, as it's lighter, easier to use, and cheaper, and still has a wide mouth.

Bottom line: this is the only medium-sized bypass/mechanical advantage/geared lopper I could find, and that's okay, because of its exceptional quality of design & solid manufacture, bringing good value in quality, price, and uniqueness. I just don't see why anyone would buy a non-mechanical-advantage lopper, so if you're in the market for one, this is it, and this is the lowest price you will see (I checked around). I just wish I knew where they were made (if any subsequent reviewers know this, please say it).

By far the BEST lopper for thick branches
I've tried just about every type of lopper, and this one is by far the best. I've used them just about every day for the past 3 years. For heavy duty pruning they are fantastic. I even use them for limbing trees while I'm logging (it saves on gas and wear-and-tear on my chainsaw, and is much faster and safer).
The patented gear design is what sets it apart. It allows for tremendous leverage (much more than even a compound lopper - which can be double the price, and being more complicated, less durable).
I'm amazed more people don't know about these. I guess the simple, inexpensive design appears too good to be true. ... Read more

Happy camper
This tool is a little pricey but well made. It handles light grass trimming with ease. Great for trimming around trees and rocks. The swivel head is very convienient. All in all I would reccomend it for light to moderate trimming. If you can afford it,go for it.

what a disappointment
I had such high hopes for this edger but have been very disappointed with it. To begin with it's heavy and somewhat bulky making it difficult to operate. Secondly, unless you position the blades at a particular angle, it doesn't cut grass very well. Thirdly, although this would be ideal for someone who wants to develop his/her triceps, it's a pain to operate for any length of time. Even my husband found it tiring and painful to use. It would be better if it had a wheel at the base so you could roll it along while cutting grass.

Such a good idea is just not solid enough
I like the idea behind the tool. It's light enough to work for an hour or better without too much strain. The adjustable angle works well and has enough settings to be practical for a number of uses. However, I found that the metal on the blades is too soft and nicks too easily, which, due to the cutting angle, causes the shears to hang up and fail to cut.

The continuing search for grass trimmers
A while back I attended a lecture at an old house nearby. While poking around the property we spied some ingenious looking trimmers that were mounted on wheels. The perfect thing for edging lawns! When I saw these long handled shears in This Old House magazine they looked to be the closest thing (albeit without wheels). They are light and well balanced. The blades seem to cut nicely and I like the fact that the blade lock is easily located on the top. The blades are rather short, so you have to make lots and lots of cuts to edge a bed. Naturally, this leads to a very tired hand. The shears are easy to use in either hand, although I am pretty ambidextrous so it may just be me. I have found that something of a scythe movement enables me to cut through grass somewhat easier and quicker. I have an aversion to gas powered weed wackers as they are noisy and smelly. They are far more effective than these shears which I was hoping would not be the case. All in all, if I had just a small area to edge, these shears would be great. For a large lawn or many flower beds, they just don't "cut it."

Not for mass trimming
I purchased the long-handled grass shear as a replacement to an Black and Decker electric (rechargable) hand-held grass shear. I hated having to bend over with the old unit and when it finally gave out I decided to purchase something that would put a little less strain on my back. I can't use a string trimmer because I have delicate flowers and plants near the edge of the grass.

I have found that the long-handled grass shear does prevent a great deal of strain on the back. It works very well in trimming around trees and hard edges. However, the blades are difficult to position when edging a border (nothing to place one of the blades against as a guide.) It takes approximately 3 times as long to trim these egdes and I still miss some spots. ... Read more

These are great pruners.
My new Fiskars loop-handle pruners arrived today. I was attracted to these by the loop handle because I thought I could tie a cord to the loop, saving me a trip down the ladder to pick them up when I drop them. I was pleasantly surprised by the compactness of these pruners. They are very comfortable in my hand. They also do a very good job of snipping off branches up to about 3/8" in diameter. I managed to get through a larger (a little over 1/2" in diameter) branch, but it was hard work and seemed to stress the tool. I was pruning a plum tree, and the wood is pretty tough. Good steel, strong efficient design

problem returning

Not for Lefthanders
I am left handed and found these shears to be on average as good/bad as the pair of 10 year old shears I purchased the Friskars to replace. They work better if I use my right hand, but I still have to hold the grass tightly with one hand and shear with the other or the grass gets clogged in the crotch of the two blades. Using my left hand they get clogged more often than not.

Okay, but not great
I find the clip on this item is not too secure. The pouch is large, which is nice if you have large clippers. But mine are the same size as perhaps 95% of those on the market and they tend to fall out when kneeling in the garden. I purchased this item almost two years ago, and while it's still in great shape, I find I use a bucket caddy now to store my clippers with my other tools.

Never lose your pruner again
Before I bought this I averaged one new pair of pruners every six months because I would misplace them. God only knows where they all went, I sure don't. In the last two years I have had the same rose pruner thanks to the sheath. Over my life this will pay for its self many times over.
