3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok for the money
The noise is aweful. There's something to be said by doing things silently with fine handtools. Then there's doing things with good power tools and smooth running motors. Then there's my sons push mower that ejects plastic balls within plastic that clicks and clatters. This motor is maybe more annoying than a plastic mower.
It does the basic job, it's cheap. If you're not doing many joints or are sticking to the basics it's fine maybe give it another star for limited use. Or get a 557 for twice as much, do more, and not be annoyed by that aweful motor.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK for occasional use, but has many annoying design defects
The Freud JS-100A is my first biscuit joiner. I picked it because it looked well made and inexpensive. After two years, I now use biscuits for everything and am putting the Freud to heavy use. It is an increasingly annoying resident of my shop; as of today I am in the market for a better-designed joiner.

The Freud continues to work OK--I have become used to the motor noise, which sounds like a handful of ball bearings rattling around in a coffee can. The dust collection system is its worst failing--the chintzy plastic manifold doesn't make a good seal and dust blows out the joint into your face. And when you have to remove the manifold to get the tool into a corner, you find access to the screw is blocked by the biscuit size selection dial. Oh, and dust goes right through the bag too, again right in your face if you're bending over to see what you're doing.

The crude fence adjustment mechanism is a real pain. When you are trying to center the cut in a board, it's just a trial and error game. Some kind of screw adjustment would be most helpful.

In production use, the tool seems heavy and poorly balanced. The on/off switch is awkwardly located, at least for me--I have to turn it on and then position it for a cut (instead of lining it up and just switching it on briefly for a quick cut. Then I have to set the tool down and turn it off. You have to wonder what they were thinking when they built this thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid performance at a fair price
I use this joiner to build solid wood panels for table tops and cabinet doors and for this it works fine. The tool seems well built, has adequate power, and I do not need a tilting fence for beveled joints. The fence height adjustment could be a little easier, but I almost always use 3/4" stock so I rarely have to adjust it. It does make a disconcerting rattle when it is shut off, but this seems to be normal. The price is also reasonable for what is basically an angle grinder with a fence and carbide blade. If you are a typical hobbyist like me, then this joiner is all you'll ever need. Save yourself the $...that you would need to spend on the fancier models for biscuits, glue, stock, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive and effective
This is probably the cheapest way to get into biscuit joining, particularly if you are uncertain about the technique and want to give it a try. Unlike more expensive models, the fence is fixed at 90 degrees so you cannot put biscuits into a mitered joint. Since I have never made such joints this was not an issue for me.

The first thing I did was to remove the fence. Without the fence the blade height is perfect for cutting biscuits in 3/4" stock.
Using the tool in this way is very easy and accurate and the Freud setup is perfect.

The only thing I regret about buying the Freud is that I have come to find that this is one of the most used tools in my little workshop. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Tool that is Easy to Use
I have used this tool to place hundreds, if not thousands of biscuits on all kinds of projects. The fence can be a little tough to adjust, as it tightens with a wing nut on each end of a threaded rod. You must turn both ends at the same time to get a tight grip. I find that I use it without the fence most of the time. The blade is mounted such that it hits the middle of 3/4" stock just sliding on the base. I clamp my work to the extension table on my table saw and just slide the biscuit joiner on the table surface. It is easy to hit your marks on edge joints this way. For right angle joints, I use a guide clamp (like a Tru-Grip CT24C) squared on the workpiece (i.e. the side of a bookcase) so the base of the joiner rests where the bottom of the shelf will be. It is easy to make a verticle plunge into the board resting on the table.

The depth of cut is easy to fine tune, and there are positive adjustment stops for three sizes of biscuits.

One thing I don't like about this tool is the "clattering" sound it makes while running. I have run this machine quite a bit and never had a problem, but it has sounded like a loose bearing from the time it was new. The fence could use some improvement, but that is easy to work around.

If it ever breaks down and I have the cash, I'd like to try a Lamello. That's the one Norm has on the New Yankee Workshop! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Even the best blades on the best table saws wobble to some extent, yielding imprecise cuts or unsightly kerf marks on the edge of a board. A good blade stabilizer like this Freud model can make the difference between common woodworking and fine woodworking. Freud's blade stabilizer has excellent balance and more weight than competing models, and, when used with a good blade, it produces excellent results every time. While the stabilizer is great for ensuring accurate rips in thin stock, as well as perfect dados and rabbets, you may need to remove it when working with thicker stock because the size of the stabilizer can prevent the blade from raising to its full height and keep the saw from reaching its maximum tilt. Freud's blade stabilizer is as good as they come, though, and definitely a worthwhile investment for any woodworker looking for the finest results. Fits saws with a 5/8-inch arbor. --Brian Trinen ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
I have been using these for a year now and have found that they really do quiet my saw down. The only thing to realize is that they really do cut down on the height of the blade. This is a problem sometimes. You may need two zero clearance inserts for your blade one with the stablizers and a different insert for using the blade without them so that you can get the height back. Bit of a hassle but it does not happen often for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than useless unless you use both
Using both stabilizers takes up a 1/2" of arbor width. I didn't have room to install both on my Bosch 4000 bench saw so I installed one on the outside. Although Freud literature doesn't point this out, these are made to be used only as a pair. If you install only one your blade gets retensioned away from being flat. I noticed this because after installing one, my splitter no longer lined up and I had to adjust the blade 1/2 a degree to get it back to being perpendicular to the table. Perhaps they improve the quality of the cut when used as a pair with a thin kerf blade. I wasn't able to test that. I give them only 1 star because Freud doesn't make it clear that both need to be used. The Forrest stabilizer is made to work as a single unit on one side of the blade. Probably a better choice for most people.

3-0 out of 5 stars Questionable effect.
I wouldn't bother with these unless you're doing a lot of very precise cutting or you're really noise sensitive. These arrived later than the thin-kerft blade I ordered them for, so I've had several days without and then with them, for comparison. There was a slight change in the sound (difficult to say if it was quieter or just pitched differently) and a marginal change in the way cuts felt. But nothing to write home about, and no perceptible difference in cut quality.

Also, just for info, I doubt these will fit most chop or compound miter saws. They're much thicker than the Forrest stabilizer, and there are two of them; they take up about a 1/2" of arbor length (not counting the blade and your fittings.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
This product made a big difference when working with a benchtop saw. Because these saws have a lot of vibration and are loud I noticed the difference in noise reduction as well as smoother cuts. You do have to keep in mind that the added weight can place added stress on the motor which is a concern in underpowered saws. Also, if you use both at the same time it moves the blade towards the right which might be a problem if you already have a sliding crosscut table or an already cut zero clearance insert. I would recommend only using one on the right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bottom Line: Buy this!
I have a Craftsman tablesaw. I've had problems with my blades flaring out, especially in thin stock, and giving me a wavy cut. I was considering a new saw...when my machinist friend told me to try these. What a difference!... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This blade produces a glass smooth surface
I installed this blade on my radial arm saw. I sighted along the blade as it came to a slow stop, to be sure it was mounted true, with no wobble. I had to loosen the nut, turn the blade slightly, and retighten a few times to get it perfect. Without a blade stabilizer, or not bothering to check the trueness of the spin, no blade will perform properly. I never have to do this with the table saw, just the radial arm saw. Once trued up, it cut like butter, and the surface was really like glass.
I also bought the Forrest II blade when I read the reviews in this months Fine Woodworking magazine, they rated it as number one, and Frued was number 2. The top 1 and 2 out of all of the blades, not bad. Fine Woodworking mentioned that their wasn't any tear out. Well I got those same exact results with the Freud. No tear out at all. The magazine rated the Freud as excellent in smooth cut, but only very good in tear outs. My experience is that when ripping 3/4" material, this blade produced a smooth cut without any saw marks. Nice enough to mount as an exposed edge on your project. Of course, a true fence is critical.
With the flawless results I got with the Freud, I am wondering why I paid three times the price for the Forrest. The Forrest Woodworker II is designed for Table Saws. The Freud is advertised on the package as being ideal for Table Saws, Radial Arm saws, and Miter and or Compound Miter Saws. I am keeping the Forrest for the table saw, I have spoken to Forrest owners who love their blade, even a year after using it. They love not having to change the blade for different kinds of cuts, and state it is still sharp after a year. I'm expecting the same kind of results from the Freud. Both of these blades have 5/8" arbors, and are a 1/8" thin kerf. The Forrest has a thinner 3/32" model as well, but some of the reviews indicate some inaccuracy on that model.
I highly recommend buying this Freud blade.

It is hard to find a blade that will cut plywood, and melamine, and do crosscuts, all excellently, and do rip cuts good as well. This one does all of them. To see Freuds blade use recommendations chart, click on the blade picture at the top of the ad.
I installed the Freud on my table saw, and got the same excellent results. So I bought a second one of these Freuds. I like the 60 teeth. Commonly the 50 tooth crosses the line between great ripping and crosscutting. This 60 tooth appears to do the job beautifully, and still give you that extra smoothness that comes with the additional teeth. The Forrest is still covered in the protective rubber dip. Some day, I will break out the Forrest II, I just have a hard time even thinking about taking this Freud off. How can you top perfect? Hope this was helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
This is an excellent blade it's very sharp and produces a finish quality cut.You can cross cut anything and the results are always perfect. The expansion slots the thin kerf and the carbide teeth balance out nicely resulting in an excellent blade. This one is worthy of re-sharpening...eventually. Now get out there and cut some wood. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good joints, fiddly setup
Honestly I'd give this 5 stars because of the nice joints it makes, but it loses one for absence of documentation. Normally I would not expect documentation with a router bit but this one is pretty tricky to use and should come with instructions.

First, nowhere in the packaging or on Amazon's site does it tell you that the drawer front MUST be 3/4" and the side can be either 3/4" or 1/2".

Second, it comes with no instructions and the setup is not straightforward. I found good instructions on the web site of a different manufacturer of drawer lock bits.

Third, nowhere is it mentioned that one has to use a sacrificial zero clearance fence when making a drawer lock joint in cabinet grade plywood. I used a spare piece of poplar. My tip: get the height set using one sacrificial fence, then cut a new one for the cleanest joints, because it is crucial to have zero clearance between the top of the bit and the fence. Even 1/16" will result in significant tear-out.

Last, because the setup is so fiddly, I do not recommend you use this bit for just a couple joints. If you are going to do a run of drawers its worth the effort, but not for one or two. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There is no catch!
I have owned a 6" open stand Jet jointer for a few years now and I finally reached that point where a new set of jointer knives was unavoidable. After calling Jet customer service and learning that it would cost me alot (one might even say a ridiculous amount) to order the knives from them, I turned to Amazon. I soon discovered these Freud knives for about a third as much as Jet wanted for their knives (and half as much as Amazon wanted for Jet brand knives). I ordered, received, and installed them, and so far I have been happy with the purchase. I have jointed a fair amount of nicely figured, quarter sawn white oak and have no complaints so far. I am a big fan of Freud cutting tools and these seem to affirm my feelings.

I recommend these to all who want good quality knives at a reasonable price! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Smooooooooth!
I bought this blade in order to use in my new table saw, based largely on the reviews here, and Freud's reputation. I was not disappointed. while working on a project, I used it in my miter saw, on oak. the cuts were silky smooth, and required almost no finishing. I was so impressed, I have replaced ALL of my blades with Freud and intend to buy nothing else in the future. Try it, You can't go wrong!

5-0 out of 5 stars Made my day
I bought this blade on the recommendation of my brother who is a professional woodworker. My miter saw is a 25 year old Dewalt, that is feeling it's age. This blade has made an old saw cut like a new one. It makes beautiful cuts on hardwoods, with minimal chip out and it's thin kerf design prevents "stalling". I cut quite a bit of thick material with the saw, and the Freud blade really makes a differance. Not having to spend time "cleaning" up miter cuts really makes my day. I would recommend this blade to anyone who needs a great cutoff blade at a small price.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD BLADE
EXELENT FINISH FLAT AND TRUE HOWEVER I HAVE NOTICED SOME DEFLECTOIN WHEN CUTTING HARD WOODS VERY GOOD BLADE FOR MITERSAW I WOULD BUY BLADE WITH A THICKER PLATE AND KERF FOR TABLE SAW

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased
I have been looking for a blade to use in my compound miter saw that would produce perfect cuts on trim and molding material. I ususally use oak and most blades provide less than perfect cuts. The TK806 cuts true and flat and is a joy to use. Instead of having to use a trim tool after the cut to get a perfect fit, the 806 does the job in one step. Because of the number of teeth, I have to pull the saw through the material faster than I am used to in order to avoid burning the wood. Great blade for my miter saw and table saw. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Clean Cutting and Reasonably Priced for a 12" Blade
Using this blade with a Delta TwinLaser miter saw, I have consistently obtained clean, splinter-free cuts. Look at the blade, however. The shot on this site depicts a 72T blade, and the rack at the home improvement store where I purchased mine also had 72T and 80T "Fine Cut Off" blades mixed together. I have the 80T blade.

Sure, it doesn't have a PTFE coating, but wiping down a blade from time to time with a bit of solvent to clean off pitch is no big task. And Freud's carbide tips are beefy and sharp. I don't anticipate any problems, having had good luck in the past with their Diablo 7.25" circular saw blades. ... Read more

I was just working with a framer who had this blade on this Mag 77 and I was stunned at how fast this blade cut through wood. It's hard to believe that a blade could make that much difference. All cuts with this blade were effortless. We ripped a 6"x10"x12' beam on the 6" side. You would have thought we had just used a table saw. This is a sweet blade. ... Read more
