If I were to expect more I would begin with an engine that isn't so tricky to get up to speed... After the third or fourth short run it will then crank and run nearly flawlessly. This was also spoken of by a earlier rater. The flaw I speak of may be an isolated case: a tad bit of tweaking appears necessary to eliminate the intermittent power stall.... These Tecumseh engines are not my favorites; but, a Honda engine would jack the price up considerably. I've had numerous Briggs and Stratton driven devices over the years with great reliability; while this is my second Tecumseh engine driven piece of equipment. My big wheel mower also has a Tecumseh and it too is a bit tricky to get started; but once it is, it is a smooth running engine. And there in may the benefit of the Tecumseh; as opposed to a B&S. Variations in the power output of the engine, even minor, will directly effect the PSI output of the pump. Once I get the intermittent power drop situation resolved I may be much more appreciative of the Tecumseh. The fuel tank is too small. During the process of cleaning a long neglected 12x16 deck I had to refill the tank a half dozen times. It's not a wise idea to store any gas powered equipment for an extended period of time with a tank full; so, it can be a benefit to run out of fuel in a relatively short period of time. The Karcher wand with integral pressure adjustment has it's benefits over those type units that require removing and replacing different nozzles for different jobs. Although, there are basically two choices with the Karcher: Very low pressure for detergent application and full high pressure. There are no variations in the pattern width of the Karcher wand. Other manufacturers seem to rely on the various nozzles with varying widths for changing output pressures. The adjustments from detergent to full blast are immediate with the twist of the grip of Karcher wand. I like it. I could nit pick this and that, as if I haven't already, but the bottom line is: It was a good value buy and the power output matches my numerous home needs. It's rather compact for easy storage and not nearly as heavy as some that are comparable....

You are led to believe this pressure washer carries a two year warranty; however, the pump is only warrantied for 90 days...and the pump is the sole source of problems you will likely encounter. Bottom line, I think I'll take the Honda engine off and make my son a go-cart with it.

Neither the owners manual NOR the engine manual match the actual engine. There are 2 places to add oil (use the grey with the dip stick, it is easier). The choke is the push/pull wire lever on the OHV side of the engine. Now that the ugly stuff is out of the way, once you have loaded the oil and the gas, set the choke, throttle, etc. just pull the cord and let her rip. This has to be the easiest starting recoil engine that I have ever used (I am a female, 5'2"). One pull and she goes. The pressure is excellent and adjustable. I added a quick connect for the supply water hose as I found that I was losing the skin on my knuckle otherwise. If all of the parts had arrived together, the machine wasn't scuffed up, and the manuals actually matched the machine I would have rated this a 5.
This is a well-engineered product. It assembled quite easily. It starts easily (every time on the first pull if you follow directions). The engine is surprisingly quiet for 6 1/2 hp. The unit rolls easily on large pneumatic tires, the spray tips change easily, and it has one powerful spray! It can easily strip oil stain off cedar shake shingles, blast deep-rooted grass and weeds out of cracks in asphalt, strip paint, and remove moss, stains and mold from asbestos shingles. The cleaning speed and effectiveness compares favorably with industrial units I have rented. This is more than your average homeowner pressure washer. Now the minor gripes: - The unit came in a large box with no packing material; the box looked like it had been opened and taped/stapled shut. The box was partially crushed and some of the yellow paint had warn off onto the cardboard due to rubbing during shipping. Fortunately there was no damage to the unit other than a little missing paint. - The 30' high-pressure hose is fairly stiff and doesn't coil easily. The addition of some twist couplings at each end would be welcome. In practical applications, 30' is usually long enough, although it seems you could always use a few more feet. - There are two oil fill openings on the engine. It is unclear which opening should be filled until almost overflowing, as directed in the instructions (it's the lower one -- be sure to find both before filling). - Engine controls are straightforward once you get used to them, but poorly marked. The correct choke, throttle, on/off switch, and fuel valve positions need to be memorized, because, at best, you are provided with very small symbols or letters stamped, in black, into a black surface. Nevertheless, the engine performance is impressive. - Directions are adequate provided you read carefully. In an instance or two, it seems like they were written for an earlier model; engine controls are not quite as described in the instructions. As I said, these gripes are minor compared to the quality and power of this unit. As of this writing, I have used it 3 times for a total of about 90 minutes.
The washer arrived in good condition and assembly is very simple and quick. I'm not that mechanically inclined and, if you are of similar experience, perhaps you may benefit from my mistakes. The handle slides into the frame and must be secured with hand-tightened locking nuts. Pay careful attention to the holes where the hose storage rack will be attached to the handle. Make sure the handle is inserted such that the hose storage rack will be located on the same side of the washer as the water input/output ports. I assembled the handle and hose storage rack only to discover that the hose would have to pass behind the engine to be connected. Thus, I disassembled the handle and flipped it over to ensure this wasn't required. There are two manuals - one for the washer and one for engine. I must admit, I was confused by the instructions regarding oil. There is more than one oil fill port. I believe that one is for the pump itself and a separate one for the engine. The assembly instructions said to check the oil level and ensure that it touches the bottom of the dip stick. I did so and it appeared to be OK. I wondered why Karcher would ship a pint of oil with the unit if the oil level was already satisfactory. Had I read the instructions for the engine before trying to operate the unit, I would have avoided the self-inflicted frustration (men are reknown for bypassing the instructions). Well, I tried cranking the engine and it didn't even begin to "turn over". I was convinced I had a defective unit until I read the manual for the engine and found that the low oil sensor (there is a small red lamp on the rear of the unit that indicates when the oil is low) will not allow the engine to crank if the the oil level is insufficient. I found the oil fill port for the engine and added the oil supplied by Karcher with the washer. WA LA!! The Kohler started with the first pull leaving me feeling both relieved and like a complete dummy. The washer comes with a high pressure output hose, wand, and color-coded nozzles. Attaching the different nozzles to the wand is far easier and quicker than I expected. There is a slip collar on the end of the wand. Simply pull the collar to the rear, insert the nozzle, and slide the collar back into place. The black nozzle is for applying detergent. The remaining nozzles - white through red - are for varying degrees of output stream intensity: white for a wide stream and red for the most concentrated stream. I would use no higher than the green nozzle for cleaning autos or other similarly finished surfaces as the more direct streams may actually peel paint. When I engaged the pump, I discoved that I had thunder in my hands. This baby rocks! So you better ensure that you have a good grip. I have only used it thus far to clean my autos but, boy, does it do a great job. Those hard-to-clean squashed insects on the front bumper and hood? No problem! I was further surprised at how simple it is to clean those hard-to-clean wheels. Brake dust and road grime melt away. I also purchased the Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher from Amazon (see my review for that product). I now have the perfect combo for ensuring my cars always keep that new car look. I expect this washer will be equally as beneficial for those other outside cleaning chores I have around the house. In summary, I am extremely pleased with this purchase and with the results I have achieved.

1. Karcher makes its own pump unit with a brass case. Most of the other machines in this price range have a third party plastic pump unit. 2. An easy starting and extremely dependable Honda engine. I don't have the same difficulty changing the oil that the two reviewers below did. Maybe Honda and/or Karcher have since changed the product design on my unit. The engine has TWO oil drain plugs, one on either side of the washer frame. Below one of those plugs the frame has a 3 inch square cut out through which you would drain the oil. This machine has made simple work out of cleaning my 200 plus feet of driveway, three cars, a motorcycle, and an aircraft. My only gripes are: a storage rack or device that holds the hose and wand more securely when not in use would be helpful. Also, a place to store the detergent intake hose would be good. The rack for storing the nozzle assortment does not hold the nozzles very securely. They vibrate loose pretty quickly.
