Hitachi’s 2-horsepower compressor is one of the hardest-working units on the market. Plug it into any standard household outlet and get 4.1 cfm of free air at 90 psi--enough to easily run two tools at once. Because of its compact size and trim weight, it’s the perfect compressor for the home do-it-yourselfer, but taking into account its power and portability, contractors will love it, too. Minimum maintenance keeps this baby humming for years--all it wants is lubrication. The 2-horsepower, direct-drive motor runs at 14.5 amps, so you won’t find yourself blowing fuses or popping breakers. Hitachi’s known for workhorse tools, and this one is a prime example.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hitachi's Dependable Compressor
I chose the Hitachi three years ago because it has a fine compressor and motor, solid construction, and overall good design. It has been entirely reliable and three years later I still am using it both in my cabinet shop and on the job for residential remodeling. The only significant design flaw is the position of the gauges. They are subject to being knocked off. I found this out the hard way one day when I had to slam on the brakes in my van and a sliding tool box sheared one of them off. Despite this one flaw I would still by another Hitachi in a heart beat. The Hitachi is not only reliable, but, unlike many compressors, it truly works on 15 amps. This compressor has never blown a fuse on me, which is something of a miracle considering the wiring in many of the older homes I remodel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impressive compressor
I am impressed with many things about this hitachi compressor. It is very well built, except that the guages do seem very fragile, however, just about all of the compressors on the market have fragile guages. I think more of the problem with the gauges is that they are not protected as well, which makes them more prone to being broken while carrying around. I can fire around 20-25 15 guage finish nails before it has to recycle. It maintains pressure accurately between 100-125 psi. The only problem I have had is the pressure regulator. The regulator does not seem to decrease pressure very well when needed. Turning the pressure regulator knob counter-clockwise just doens'nt seem to engage in pressure reduction. And because of this, I sometimes have to conncect a blow gun while turning the pressure regulator counter-clocwise. This will result in 0psi at the regulator. Then it is no problem to increase pressure at the regulator. I think that this part may be defective and plan on contacting Hitachi. The oil lubed compressors are more durable over the oil free ones. The unit is also much quiter than I expected. Overall, this seems like a very good unit that has a history of proven reliability that is quite and easy to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Compressor great, regulator bad
This compressor is a great value. It has a quality oil lubricated motor and is competitively priced with "oil-less" compressors of similar size and capacity. It works great with my various small air tools (palm nailer, impact wrench, etc). My only complaint: After a few hours of light use, the regulator dial became very hard to turn, and eventually stopped working altogether. I dismantled it and found that the dial threads had stripped. I replaced the regulator with an inexpensive AmFlo model purchased at Lowes, and am much happier with the new one -- easier to adjust, more precise, and more accurate. If Hitachi included a better regulator, they would have a 5 star product.

4-0 out of 5 stars EC12 Cold Start Problems
The Hitachi EC12 is a very solid contractor compressor. However, like most units that fall in this category, it often has difficulty starting. Starting related issues stem from cold weather, voltage drop across an extension cord or the use of multiple tools. While these problems occur across the board among compressor manufacturers, there is a product that helps eliminate the issue. Called the Smart Start by Conrader it replaces the standard inlet filter of the compressor. Essentially, it delays compression and allows the motor to reach full speed before encountering a load. More information is available at www.conrader.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bob, a home improvement enthusiast
I have owned this compressor for 3 years now and it continues to run flawlessly. I agree that the gauges are mounted in an area where they can be easily damaged but if you take care when using and transporting the compressor, you won't have any problems. Change the oil regularly and this beauty will last a very long tme. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
When looking to buy a 12 inch compound slide I wanted to buy the best. I have used extensively the Hitachi 8 1/4, the Bosch 10 in slide, and the Dewalt 12 inch mitre. In my opinion the Hitachi was the best. The most precise, reliable, and easy to use saw in the group. So when I found out Hitachi made a 12 inch slide I read the other reviews and ordered one from Western Tool believing I was buying the best.

After waiting 3 weeks the saw came and I brought it to the job to use. The saw had a serious arbor problem which I at first thought was the blades I tried, but they were all high dollar blades. The blade wobbled so much you could see it in your cut and feel it in the saw. Also one of the rails were loose so that you could move the head, which is adjustable but you shouldn't have to mess with a brand new [expensive] saw.

A couple of other shortcoming:
The entire head is plastic which doesn't seem to fit together very well.
Hitachis table and fence still need improvement.

I regretfully had to take my saw back and since I needed it yesterday, I could not wait another 3 weeks. So after reading and looking I went with the Makita. I am not disappointed with the Makita but rather impressed. It is a far better saw. Easier to use, more solid, more efficient design, only 5% plastic, it has a great table, superb sliding action, and it comes with a 100 dollar blade. More saw for less money.

In my opinion Hitachi is riding to much on their reputation with this saw. They are not putting the same rescource into competing as Makita or Dewalt. Perhaps after a year or so of getting saws back they will fix some of its problems and re-manufacture it. Until then, I think a person would be far better off going with something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!!!
Upon seeing this saw at a Florida tool show, I knew that my wait was over...Having owned the 8-1/2 model since its inception and watching Hitachi and other manufacturers try to improve on my old reliable, I finally found a saw that justifies putting my 8-1/2 to the side (even though its still cutting true and strong!)...Hitachi's newest creation has great capacity, accuracy, and is sooo quiet...Best of all, it has all the nice adjustment features of my 8-1/2 (unlike their 10" model)...It includes 60 degree mitre left and right, two bevel scales, looking directly at you when flopping left or right, and unlike Makita still builds in positave detents for common crown molding If this saw has the longevity of its predecessor, and I have no dought it will, you won't be able to beat this one for many years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY!
After useing my 8-1/2" for as many years as it has been out and waiting for an Hitichi 12" (been strugling to avoid the urge to go with the Makita 12), I finally spotted the newest and best saw on the market at a Florida tool show...I new immediately, that it wasn't the old Hitachi 10" and was drawn to ogle the beast. It has the smooth engineering of all Hitachi saws, but goes beyond that. My friends 10" was a smooth cutting and quiet saw to use, but that adjustment knob for the bevel fought me at all times...not so with the 12" (smooth and comfortable as my old reliable 8-1/2). Best of all , the new saw has two! bevel gauges, riding on each side of the barrel...looking directly at you when the head is shifted left or right! Their 10" model won't even allow you to see the gauge when beveling on one side. The abilty to mitre 60 degrees left or right, now gives this saw the capacity to exceed my 8-1/2 in more ways than vertical cutting depth...I had to have it, couldn't justify staying with my old saw all the time(even though its still going strong). Best of all, the noise level is so much lower...I don't care about turning my stock end-for-end...been doing it for years! For the demands required in the field (or shop), YOU CAN'T BEAT THIS SAW! ... Read more

In addition to not being able to read, I believe he maybe blind. There are no "blue tabs" on the photo. There is nothing but black and green.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can you not read?
To the other reviewer, can't you read that it says "Includes two 1.2 Ah Batteries".Don't give the product a bad review b/c you can't read the specs.

1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE, not as pictured or advertised...
This is the DS18DVB drill. However the refurbished kit came with the EB1812 batteries, which are only 1.2Ah and the charger that came with it will only charge them, not the other 18v batteries Hitachi sells. The picture Amazon has with this item clearly shows the 2.0Ah batteries (you can tell by the blue tabs, the 3.0Ah are yellow and the 1.2Ah are all black) While it is a good drill and flashlight, I bought this kit at this price primarily to get a couple more batteries and a back-up charger. You are better off getting the kit new with the better batteries. Better still, get the kit that comes with the 3.0Ah batteries, a reciprocal saw and a circular saw. I will probably be making Amazon take this back. ... Read more

This tool’s daddy, the NV45AB, was a fine piece of machinery, but Hitachi took it back to the drawing board and after a few significant improvements, put this NV45AB2 coil roofing nailer on the market, where it collected awards and praise from all corners. Deserved, we think. The best change is the new side-load magazine, so reloading is a breeze. And there’s no more fiddling on the roof because the depth of drive adjustment is tool-free now, too. Hitachi dumped the racket-grip handle in favor of a great rubber grip which is much easier on the user. Rubber pads were incorporated into the metal body protectors, ensuring a firm grip on the shingles without slipping. Hitachi kept the best features of this nailer’s predecessor, too—-things like pneumatic feed and return (most nailers we’ve seen have spring return), which help power the tool through tar and buildup that might otherwise trigger a jam. Tough housing stands up to shingle scrapes, and a carbide-tipped push lever means long life for the tool’s nose. Even at a nice, light 5.2 pounds, this workhorse fires an impressive three nails per second. Roofers will like the changes.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL MACHINE
I've had my Hitachi P12RA planer for 8 years and couldn't be happier. Originally, I wanted to buy their F1000A cast iron planer/jointer but discovered Hitachi no longer exports it to the USA. Since the F1000A is SOOOOOOOOOOOO remarkable, I took the chance on this "little brother" and was very pleased- with the planer.

The quality of cut is outstanding, and boards come out dead accurate. In fact, I go to this planer over my 2 year old Jet 15" stationary planer almost every time. The Jet is a workhorse so that should tell ya something! Setup is simple. The knives are really beefy and all the other parts (castings, chains, bearings, adjusting screws) are heavy and well made. I get "slick-as-glass" results even on ebony. Since most of the components are aluminum alloy or stainless steel, I don't even have to fight rust.

Though the jointer is powerful and gives a fantastic finish to the wood, it's just too simplistic. There isn't a way to align the infeed and outfeed tables, which makes getting a flat board almost impossible. They are fixed except to adjust the depth of cut. In fact, holding a straight edge to the length of the jointer bed reveals both tables angle away from the cutterhead. Since I make guitars, this sort of thing drives me bananas. I actually sent the jointer portion back to the dealer for a partial refund.

My advice is to buy the planer portion only. Spent the money for the dust hood too. It's well put together and very effective. This planer has been featured in several books and magazine articles over the years, and for a good reason. You will be amazed with the results!

4-0 out of 5 stars hitachi planer
The jointer bed is too small for this to be the perfect machine. The planer is excellent, but the total length of the infeed and outfeed bed is very short and makes it difficult to accurately joint long pieces of wood. The first thing that I did after buying this was to buy a 71" powermatic jointer. It is not the most economical way to go.

The exhaust tends to get plugged in both the planer and the jointer with wood chips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Increase the quality of your work
This machine is pure joy. I bought one to replace my Delta which was an O.K. tool. It doesn't hold a candle to this beauty though. No portable even comes close. In fact , most stationary units wish they could perform this nicely. I've never used a planer or a jointer that produces smoother finishes than this machine. Usually in a combo unit you lose to compromises. Not so here . It has plenty of power to do anything you want to. It runs quieter than some of the other portables I've used. The one piece table is something others should copy in their designs.Since the cutter head is stationary ,it doesn't need a lock. Snipe is almost nonexistent. It makes for some of the smoothest surfaces I have ever produced. Even highly figured hardwoods are no problem if you keep your blades sharp. The height adjustment is the smoothest on the market. Many high end woodworking tools come from Japan and this is no exception. If you are willing to pay the little bit more that this tool commands you will be rewarded by years of precision cutting you won't find anywhere else.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Workshop Wonder
I bought the P12R Hitachi Planer in 1994. Without a doubt it is the best planer for the money on the market. I looked at several different models before deciding on the P12R. Besides just looking better than the rest, it has a feature not found on many other planers. The cutterhead remains stationary while the stainless steel planer bed moves up and down on four columns. I think this makes for a much smoother cut, virtually snipe free. I use mine on a regular basis, and after 6 years, have never changed blades. I've never even sharpened the original ones and it still makes exceptional cuts. It does cost a little more than the others, but believe me, it's well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars High End Portable Planer
The P12R planer is at the high end of the portable planer market. It's better than twice the price of Taiwanese manufactured models. I purchased the Hitachi P12R planer about 18 months ago and it's performed very well. I've run several hundred linear feet of Oak and Maple, many boards at the maximum width, and board thickness as much as 4 inches. All this without significant drag on the motor. I was considering a 15 inch floor model machine, but shop space is an issue. The Hitachi gets the job done and packs away under a worktable. Changing the blades was a big fear, but it couldn't have been easier. Access was easy, the instructions very clear and adjusting the blade height very simple. This machine is worth its price, especially if you value quality tools. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hitachi 10 inch fiber cement saw blade
This is a great tool for cutting cement siding. I use mine in my radial arm saw and get very smooth cuts. With the radial arm saw I can cut the widest planks. The dust is much less than cutting with a regular carbid blade. I also use the 7 1/2 inch blade in a circular saw for rip cuts. I am also using Malco Plank Gauges for holding the planks during installation and they are very helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardiblade is an excellant product
I used a Hardiblade in my Radial Arm saw and another in my circular saw while installing Hardiplank siding on my daughters house. The cuts were straight and clean. This was the first time I have installed cement siding and I was a little apprehensive about cutting and nailing the siding. The blades cut much easier and with much less chipout and dust than the carbide blade I tried at first.

I would reccommend this blade for any cutting of cement siding.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for?
This drill gets 5 stars for its value. How can people complain when it costs $89? Go buy a Craftsman or B&D for the same price or even more, I know this is much better. You get what you pay for. I bet these complainers also expect their Ford or Chevy to be just like a Mercedes for half the cost??? If you are a contractor like myself don't buy a $89 drill and then complain about it. This is excellent for my retired father and more than he will ever need.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good drill for home use. Needs more power.
Hitachi 14.4v drill kit is a good buy. The light is excellent, but not the reason I purchased the drill.

The drill itself has a nice feel in my hands... good balance. It's a good drill for home use, but could use extra power. Battery life is average. I've used the drill with the Kreg Pocket Hole Kit (which is outstanding), and the drill seems to run a little slower then it should when drilling the pocket holes.

If I were to need a drill for production, I would be inclined to look for a drill more high-end, like the Panasonic line for example. Having said this, I give it three stars. It's a good (average) tool.

I recommend Hitachi drop the light and upgrade the drill.

2-0 out of 5 stars Professional carpenter
I am a professional millwork installer and needed a second drill on the job. I saw this drill at a local store and thought I would buy it for the low price of $89.00 just to have it. What a mistake! After three months I decided to give it to a new carpenter as a "starter" drill. If you are a homeowner who uses a drill once a week maybe this is a good drill. All other professionals, I wouldnt even spend the money to have it in your gangbox as a reserve.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for production
We bought one of these in September and it is worn out in January. The brushes are not replaceable, the battery contacts are bent, and the chuck is loose and wobbly. Unfortunately, we bought 3 more in December. For production, it would be one star. For home use, maybe 3 or 4 stars. It depends on how hard you use it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value
Nice solid chuck, good clutch, enough power for deck screws, drywall screws, etc. If you're used to a 12V drill you'll notice and appreciate the extra power. Very comfortable grip and nice balance. Charging time could be quicker - it takes over an hour to charge a battery (it comes with two). Now, I wouldn't go dropping this drill off the roof or anything like that, but I give it 5 stars because at its modest cost it's worth every penny and then some. Even the flashlight, while it's cheaply made, unlike a lot of "freebies" it turns out to be pretty useful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good.
I just received two of these guns for the finish carpentry crew.So far so good! I'm hoping that this gun last as long as the old Hitachi 16G design (6years).This is a well balanced and easy to shoot nail gun.It easily sinks 2 ½" through solid poplar case and base material. The driver leaves a very small hole in the wood, not much larger than the 18G Hitachi gun. ...
