Easy to install, cool and quiet as a whisper!
There is not much more to say about this fan beyond what I have indicated in the title of this review. Perhaps, however, a bit of elaboration is in order.

A comprehensive and easy to follow manual made the installation of this fan a breeze! The apartment in which we installed the fan was already wired for just such a device, so that was not a concern for us and I cannot address that issue except to say that the aforementioned manual does cover the topic of finding and preparing the right space for your fan. With a space already prepared for ours, it took us just under two hours to complete the actual assembly - including wiring and installation.

The fan, with three speed settings and reversible air flow, has kept us cool through the torrid Florida summer and remains quiet as a whisper as it delivers its soothing zephyrs.

The blades are reversible, offering a choice of basic white or faux oak.

No light fixtures here if that's what you're looking for. Just an efficient fan that has proved, for this user at least, a quality product. ... Read more

excellent product
I've had this fan for 3 or 4 years and I'm very happy with it. It's very quiet and you don't need to balance the blades yourself. Just follow the directions that Hunter sends with the fan and you're home free. Aside from very occasional dusting I have had to do nothing to the fan in order for it to run smoothly. I love the design the quietness and the quality of this fan that also has a very good price. Go for it you won't be sorry.

Excellent Buy
I purchased this fan about 3 or 4 years ago and I have only good things to say about it. I specially ordered it from Home Depot and I've been totally pleased with it. It is very quiet unlike many other fans I've seen around. One thing I can say about the Hunter fans family is that they are definitly quality fans. My mom only buys hunter and when she found out I was in the market she insisted I look at only the Hunter fans. I don't always do as mother says but this time I did and am glad I got an excellent fan with not problems at all. I would give 10 stars if theywent that far. Why we'll never buy another Hunter product.
Having installed many ceiling fans, I just opened the box up, and started putting it up. I never thought to check if all the parts were there, and perhaps that was my fault. However, after installing the fan, and getting ready to attach the pull chains, I noticed the chains were not in the box. This was also the time that I noticed the finial and the plate to hold the light cover up were also missing. Having it already installed and working on the ceiling, we decided not to take it back down, pack it up and send it back. We figured we would call the 800 number on the instructions that says to call if you have any missing pieces. This was our biggest mistake, we should've just returned the whole thing. Upon calling, and after being on hold for 45 minutes, an operator answered who was very rude and implying it was our fault the pieces were missing and stated that the parts were out of stock, and wouldn't be available for 2 months.

2 months came and went, another call, 30 more minutes on hold... Another rude operator, another 2 months for the parts. We asked to talk to the supervisor, who of course wasn't in. We were told that if we left a voice mail, he would call back. We never heard from them again. 2 months later, a package did arrive from them, there was a finial inside, but no pull chain nor the plate to hold the light cover on.

To make a long story short, it took 6 phone calls, all with excessive hold times. We left 4 messages for the supervisor, as they were never in the office. Never did they call back. 8 months after the initial purchase, the plate to hold the light cover on finally arrived. We never received the pull chain, and gave up on it. Pull chains are easy to find.

We initially decided on Hunter due to their outstanding reputation, I have no qualms about the fan itself. It is indeed an outstanding product. If they could get their customer service in line with their products, they'd be a hit. The fan did come with a balancing kit, I've never seen that in cheaper fans, but I didn't want to balance it until all the parts were installed, so we had a wobbling fan with no light cover for 8 months.

We'll be replacing 6 more ceiling fans over the next year, and the Hunter brand will not even be considered.

Bottom line; Ensure all parts are in the box before installation, if not, send it back. Don't call the 800 number for missing parts.

Fan of a Fan
I had the hardest time finding a modern ceiling fan in a cream color.. all I could find was white. When I found this model on Amazon I ordered it right away. Not only is it functional (supplies a nice cool breeze on warm nites) it is so very pretty. The lamp diffuses the lite and the blades cast a romantic shadow on the ceiling. Beware of faulty materials
I purschased this fan for our new home 3 years ago, I only used it seasonally. It was installed properly and securely yet the connector between the base and the motor snapped and the fan came hurling down for no apparent reason, injuring my son. GREATEST LOW PROFILE THERE EVER IS!!!
I've had this Low Profile until my family moved. It was White,not Antique Brass. I adapted it with Hunter's Bullet Spotlights in White. There was one problem with it: When I went to pull the fan's pull chain one night, the Medium speed got broken. My Father,the electrician of my house, had to check the wiring. I was told not to turn it on and leave the cap off. It still works,for a very good fan!!!

Quality control lacking
This product was defective when I received it. The holes drilled in the fan blades were too big for the screws which attach the blades to the brackets. The company's solution was to send me rubber "grommets" to fit in the fan blade holes to make them smaller. Unfortunately the grommets are too big for the holes and I cannot insert them. I have yet to be able to assemble the fan completely, although the motor looks attractive on the ceiling without the fan blades (not)! The problem has yet to be resolved. Anyway, what would happen in five years when the rubber grommets deteriorate and the screws pull loose sending the fan blades flying?

Napping in the lap of luxury
There's nothing like a ceiling fan over the bed to help you catch your zzzz's on a hot summer night. Instead of shivering in an air conditioner's icy blast, you loll under a gentle breeze, perhaps dreaming about faraway places kissed by tropical trade winds.

That is, until your mate, while groping around in the dark for the fan's pull chain, inadvertently plants a knee right in your abdomen.

The Hunter Fan 27185 Remote Control prevents such nocturnal escapades. Its receiver installs inside the canopy on most ceiling fans, best done while you're hanging the fan, but it can also be done any time after installation. The transmitter uses a single 9-volt battery and sits on the night stand or in its handy wall holder.

The size, shape and texture of the oblong fan control buttons let you operate the fan in complete darkness. Three buttons in descending order of size select high, medium and low fan speeds. The smallest button turns the fan off with a single press.

Your fingers won't mistake the big round light/dimmer button for a fan button and accidentally bathe the bedroom in a blaze of light. When you really DO want to turn on the light, press and release the button. Press and release again to turn off the light. Press and hold the button to cycle the dimmer up and down.

If you want wireless convenience on more than one fan in the house, you can set each transmitter/receiver pair to its own channel. So, while your better half snoozes with the bedroom fan on low, you can lie on the couch in the living room and crank up the fan to high.

Thanks to the same capacitor speed control technology that Hunter uses in their own fans, the Hunter Fan 27185 Remote Control won't induce motor hum at lower speeds, a common fault of cheap voltage-regulating remotes. It works with nearly all makes and sizes of ceiling fan EXCEPT Hunter's "The Original" series.

Many dead spots, even near the fan!
I give this remote two stars for ease of installation, otherwise I'll be looking for another remote. The unit may or may not work, depending on the location of the handheld transmitter in relation to the receiver. This is not an out-of-range problem because the receiver might not pick up the signal even if the transmitter is only a few inches away. At first I suspected a weak battery but this was not the culprit. I have spent several hours orienting the antenna wire in every possible way and retesting the unit, and there are still dead spots in the room where the transmitter will not work, even though it works very dependably in other spots. Reading some previous reviews praising this unit, it sounds as if the manufacturer has a quality control problem regarding consistency. But it seems that we all agree on the unit's lack of ability to remember the last brightness setting -- when you turn off the light, regardless of where the dimmer is set, turning the light on again brings it immediately to the full setting... not very comfortable on the eyes after waking up in the middle of the night. You can only "dim down" the light -- starting from full brightness and going gradually to off. There is no way to increase from dim to bright. Overall, I am very disappointed.

Great add-on.
I felt pretty much, how everyone else has, easy to install, works great, looks great, etc. Unlike the reviewer who said that the unit does not work while hanging on the hanger, his must be out of range, because mine works fine while hanging, in fact, i place my receiver antenna up inside the ceiling box, and i haven't found a place in our 2200 sq. ft house, that the thing will not work. AWESOME UNIT !!!!!

Great solution - the lazy man's dream!
This is a great product! The one downfall, as one reviewer has mentioned, is the fact that it does not remember your light dimmer setting when you turn out the light. That's only a minor inconvenience, so this product still gets 5 stars. Installation is simple, and if ou have room in your wall behind your swithcplate (like I did) you don't even have to take down the ceiling fan. (Please note that the installation instructions and guidelines include no provisions for this type of install) This is a great solution if you only have one switch on your wall and want to control the fan and the light separately without pulling chains. This unit is actually designed for fans receiving only one live feed (you have only one switch on your wall to control both the light and the fan) but it can be used if you have separate live wires.

A final note is on the style and layout of the system from a design aspect. This is HEADS AND SHOULDERS above the other units as far as asthetic appeal. The remote has nice contours and the buttons are layed out in a manner that makes sense (unlike other units I've used). The handy mounting bracket for the remote can fit over top of existing switches or can be mounted in a more convenient location. The design of the clip is innovative and easy to use. Unlike other, bulkier basket type holders, the remote completely conceals the mount when it is hung up.

You'll LOVE this unit!

A qualified endorsement
I installed this on a Hunter 'hands free' mount fan that was installed flush--other brands of remote fan controls would only install on fans mounted with a hanger style mount. This remote works fine, but the light dimmer does not remember its dim setting when the lights are turned off. The 'unique switch plate holder' is a hanger, and the remote can not be used in place on the wall while hanging. I would have used a competing product if it were compatible with my fan. ... Read more
