5-0 out of 5 stars Top shelf product!
I've been using the JDS 750 for a almost 2 years now and I'm still very happy with it. I added the charcoal filter for days when I'm finishing. The helpful people at JDS told me that to to extend the life of the charcoal filter, keep it in a plastic bag when I'm not using it.

I just purchased a retro-fit kit to add the remote control and shut-off timer features. Originally, I though the remote wouldn't be necessary but after using the unit for a while it seems it would be more convenient to have the remote. Plus the shut-off timer is a great help. I've left my unit on overnight more than once...

The competing Jet and Delta units are also nice. I checked them both out at shows and local stores. I thought the fit and finish of the Delta unit was not quite up to par with either the JDS or Jet units. This could certainly have more to do with how the Delta units I have seen were handled by resellers rather than anything to do with Delta. I own many Delta products and they are a fine company so I suppose you'll have to use your own judgement on this point.

Customer service from JDS is great. They happily answered all of my questions any time I called.

All three units seem to have similar features but what made my decision was the fact that JDS specializes in this area and their customer service is excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Great Value
I locally purchased the Delta Air Cleaner prior to this unit based on price. Once getting it home I realized that I had given up many features to save a few dollars. I returned the Delta and got this unit, it was worth it!

The JDS quality of build is far above the Delta. Heavier gage case and better attention to detail in manufacture. The eloctrostatic air filter is a real value (since it is the outer filter that needs the most frequent replacing/cleaning), and the infinitely variable speed adjustment and pull switch all make this unit well worth the little extra money. The pull switch will half whatever setting you have as high on the variable speed adjustment (each pull is - high, mid, off).

I have reviewed the Jet product as well (only in literature, not hands on) and feel that the JDS is still a better unit. The Jet has the remote control feature which sounds good at first. I have a stereo in my shop that has a remote, never use it. It's never in a convenient place relative to me or I can't find it! I feel the remote for the air cleaner would be the same, and I feel it's just one more gizmo to break or get lost. The air cleaner goes on and off only once a day, no big deal.

It would be nice if the JDS had a timer as does the Jet, but it's an easy addition if I find it necessary.

The JDS says lifetime warranty, that's on the case only, the motor is 1 year. Not sure about the other brands.

One more little thing. I've worked to create a nice atmosphere in my shop and I really dislike products that are sticker laden billboards for the manufacturer. I felt the Delta was an eyesore hanging from my ceiling and the Jet looks to be the same from the pictures. The JDS is subdued and professional looking, a small thing indeed, but perhaps something to consider if you dislike visually obtrusive logoism.

I would buy this unit again and highly recommend it as a necessary safety item in any dust laden environment.

5-0 out of 5 stars High Quality control, very satisfied
I ordered the JDS before Frank Weston posted his report, I was a bit alarmed after reading the report. I did get the JDS the next day. I found that the machine included all the parts, and it did run very smoothly. It had a slight dent on one corner, this is from shipping damage (as the box is crumpled on one corner), but this is not very obvious when it is installed. I am very happy with the air cleaner, the speed control lets you go from almost silent to a loud rush of air. I leave it on the middle setting, at this speed it is quiet, and moves quite a bit of air. It was difficult to mount on the ceiling due to the weight of the unit (75 lbs) and size. I would suggest that you have someone help you install it. It took about 20 minutes to install. I hung it from the rafters with chain, using the included hardware and chain purchased elsewhere. The mounting hardware included: 4 eye bolts to connect to the unit, and 4 screws/hooks to mount to the ceiling. You can fine tune the eye bolts that connect to the unit, this helps out with leveling. I would suggest that the person with the poor experience call up JDS, it seems like he may have a used/returned unit. I spoke to friends that have the same unit, and none have had any problems whatsoever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shipped Short
The air cleaner works superbly. It is a 5-star unit, and the remote and extended run time with auto shutoff are great. It is quiet and really does get the dust out. I highly recommend it. Be careful hanging it if you are doing it by yourself.

Orginally it was shipped without the electrostatic air filter that was supposed to come with it. Also, it came with no instructions - but not hard to figure out. I thought - and still do - that it was inordinately difficult to contact Amazon about this type of problem on the website. (Lots of "let us direct you to returns/additional orders/cancellations," etc., but the "problem with order button, NOT involving a return, cancellation, re-order" took some searching. Note: It is about 3 "layers" down.) BUT - after considerable searching, I did manage to get someone to answer my complaint - and they did it promptly. (5 stars for the service/3 1/2 stars for QC on the orginal order and for the difficults in reporting the problem.)

Amazon sent me an activated charcoal filter free of charge. That is excellent service, and I appreciate it (five stars). I will purchase the electrostatic filter now for the complete set and break even. Anyway - Thanks Amazon. Now modify your website to be more user-friendly for reporting any shortages/damages, etc., and your service will be OUTSTANDING.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good for a moderate size shop
I installed the JDS 750 about a month ago. I was in the middle of a major cleanup of the shop that raised a lot of dust, so when I went to dinner, I let the JDS run for an hour and when I returned, the air in the shop SMELLED CLEAN! I have pretty good ventillation, but this was a very major improvement.

The remote control with auto shutoff timer is great, and its very nice that they include a wall mount bracket for the remote so it doesnt get lost in the normal shop clutter. I had looked at other air cleaners before and was not thrilled with having to install an new wall switch and wiring to control the cleaner.

The unit is pretty large, so make sure you have room for it. Its heavy, so was a bit of a challenge to get it up to the ceiling mount I made for it.

The only reason I dont give it 5 stars is that it is noisier than I would like on its low speed. Its not loud, but I wish it had the low speed so it was quieter. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Accu-Miter is rock solid
I have been looking for a miter guage for my Sears Contractor Table saw for years. I have always been concerned about the flex in the bar when extended. No flex here. This baby is rock solid. It has good weight to it, so it sits tight in the miter slot. It can be adjusted in case you have a little wider slot than most saws. Mine fit right in the first time. There was a problem with one of the screws. The thread was machined wrong,so when I received the Miter guage, the screw was already stripped. Called JDS and they sent a replacement in two days. Seems they could put an extra screw in the bag. Most companies do. Set up can be a little tricky if you are not an experienced woodworker. Instructions are a little vague. It took me about an hour to assemble it and square it to the saw blade. It probably would have taken less time if I had not messed around trying to fix the thread on the screw. If you are looking for a replacement guage, you won't be disappointed with the Accu-Miter

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!
I've had one for a few months now and I just love it. this is one of the better purchase decisions I have made. Easy to set up, easy to use and I love the fact that cuts are repeatable with ease. Accuracy is great. I am a hobbyist and don't have a lot of time to devote to my hobby. This miter sure does make the time spend pleasurable.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Accu-Miter has been improved
... JDS has redesigned the bar so that it now has three adjustments along its length. If there is any slop in the slot, just turn the screw and it tightens right up. My Accu-Miter is rock solid in the slot.

The unit comes disassembled but the assembly process is actually fun. Each of the pieces is made to such a high quality and the instructions are so clear, you'll feel disappointed that there isn't more to do. The hold down is a little finiky, but maybe I'm not used to it enough.

I have been using two different cross cut sleds but this is the most accurate I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accumiter Guage
I've used my Accumiter guage for almost 5 years. Although the hold-down is a little cumbersome to use, it makes me feel much safer using my 5Hp Unisaw. After using an Accumiter, its hard to use a saw with just the standard bevel guage. My Delta supplied guage is permenantly attached to a jig...

3-0 out of 5 stars Accu-Miter, Not Quite
What every woodworker looks for is a jig that can be easily set and not checked. For the money spent on the Accu-Miter, I have been a bit disappointed in what the product has delivered. During assembly (some required) a screw that secures the mitre angle with the shot pin mechanism was stripped on delivery. I had to contact the manufacturer for a new part which delayed the use by a few weeks. The bar that slides in my table saw, router table and shaper is not a good fit. Since there is no way to adjust for bar width, there is play in the miter. This makes getting a perfect square cut a bit dicey. Every so often I have to check all the screws on the unit to make sure they have not come loose. In addition, when cutting longer stock, the miter unit/bar feels like it is flexing a bit. Overall, with careful attention and use, the tool does deliver pretty good results. However, getting good results takes a bit more work than one would expect from a unit of this price. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars overkill
This unit looked ok on paper. It seemed to have plenty of power and required, according to one reviewer, only 16 amps @110 volts.
When the unit arrived I knew there was a problem. The motor looks like something that came out of a locomotive. It weighs all of 45 lbs. Unfortunatley it was stamped not 16 amps but 24 amps @110 volts. My 20 amp curcuit would not handle it. In any event It is far more than the average woodworker needs. I am sure it has plenty of power for servicing 3-4 machines at the same time but I find I usually work best with just one on. I think one of the smaller units will work just fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars This thing blows a lot of wind
I bought this because I was using a pair of 6hp Sears 16 gallon shop vacs. I had one tied to a Woodstock International separator. The problem I was having, was that my 12 1/2" planer was creating so much material when planning a 12" wide board, that the tail end of the planer, would start to get loaded with shavings and start to bind against the wood. Why was it doing that? The draw from the vac was sufficient at 250 CFM, and the separator was capturing all of the regular size material, leaving only the fine powder to pass onto the vac. Well the vac only has a small amount of surface area to collect the powder, so I have to constantly stop and comb the dust out. Since the JDS Dust Force comes with about 42 sq. ft. of surface area on the bags, I knew this would no longer be the problem. Now onto the unit. This thing moves 1250 CFM instead of 250. That is the rate through the 5" nozzle, which has a twin 4" tee on it. If you buy the book "Controlling Dust in the Workshop" you will see that a single 4" pipe has a limitation of about 400 CFM. A 2 1/2" pipe allows even less. So much to my surprise, I couldn't get more air flow through the 2 1/2" hoses, than I was getting out of my Sears unit. When I hooked up the 4" hose it really ripped. If you go to the Onieda-air.com site you get introduced to the cyclone units at three times the cost. I prefer this unit, and a Woodstock separator. What the Onieda site also does is give you a sample layout of a whole shop system. The pipes are 6" at the source, and gradually taper to the tool. Much more to talk about, but it is all in the book, "Controlling Dustin the Workshop". So why is this JDS so great?
The challenge in dust collectors is to get a quiet unit that collects the most amount of dust. Less expansive units are known to have cheaper materials in the fan blade and motor. That is not the case with this JDS. Taiwan has come a long way. What you have here is a motor so solid that you think it was strapped under a Powermatic 66 table saw. It's heavy, it's beefy, and looks like something that is located in a GE power plant. The fan blades are not even a little bit thin. All in all this thing is beef. The labor savings by being made in Taiwan are passed on in the tool. This thing is all heavy duty metal. The motor is capped with steel ends, and the heat sinks that go all around it are solid aluminum. What no plastic? Nope. It moves a lot of air, if you have pipes large enough to handle it. I wish all of my equipment had 4" feeds on it. Most don't and I can reduce the 4" pipe to accommodate it, but I will leave the second pipe part way open to allow it to breathe. This unit was not designed to breathe through a single 2 1/2" throat. My feeling is that this unit could demand twice the price, and probably get it.
If I had to be critical of it, I would say that since I bought the optional 1-micron bag kit, I would hope to only have clear air venting into the shop. Upon inspecting the unit, I noticed dust build up on the outside, where the bags leaked where they are mounted to the center drum. I know that I will be able to play with the material, to get rid of any folds etc, in order to eliminate this. I might even have to go so far as to wrap the seam in some fabric. I am new to it, to this was on the first day.
Get the Woodstock separator, it is cheap, and mounts to a 30-gallon metal trash can available locally. It catches all of the big stuff, so it makes dumping of the waste very easy. The more important thing is that it prevents chunks of wood, or even worse a piece of metal, like a screw from running into the fan blade causing a spark. With the separator, the only thing that gets to the JDS unit is only fine powder. After using it, nothing was in the bottom bag at all.
All in all this is a very solid unit, built for years of service. I highly recommend it. When you first attach it to the base, plug it in, and you'll be shocked. This thing blows a lot of wind.

5-0 out of 5 stars JDS Dust-Force 1.5HP, 1200 CFM Dust Collector... I like it!
The JDS Dust force arrived at my door UPS, in the typical "I'm from Taiwan, and I don't care" packaging. The box had several holes where the stuff inside cut thru to the outside. The unit had a few bent corners on the motor mounting plate, and on the inlet port, but was otherwise perfect.

Assembly was a breeze. The instructions were typical translation mumbo jumbo, but they were not really necessary. There is only one way this machine can go together. The motor and blower come preassembled and wired for 120V. There were no missing parts, everything fit together easily, no bending, or other persuasion was required.

The construction seems to be substantial, the casters roll nicely. The bags are cinched up with steel belts that have easy to use toggle snaps. The bag frame is supported on each side, so it is quite stable.

The unit seems quiet. I measured it at 84dbA wide open, and 76dbA, full vacuum. The sealed motor is labeled: 1.5HP, 3400rpm, 16A/8A, 110/220V. So, it really should have a 20A, 120V circuit. The motor has cast iron end bells, and an aluminum finned heat-sink around its middle. It has a small blower that blows over the fins. The motor runs cool, with very little vibration.

The filters bags are 30 micron. And boy does it eat up the dust! I cannot make a direct comparison between the JDS and any other dust collector, but the JDS seems to be more than adequate in its capabilities. It would be nice if they included 1 micron filters, and a hose, but they are available as accessories. Nice machine! It is a glad addition to my shop. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pays For Itself
This filter has saved me money by not having to purchase replacment filters. Easy to clean and does a good job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Idea since sliced bread!
This is a product long overdue in the air cleaner market. I have two of the JDS 750 air cleaners in my little shop and they move a lot of air. If I hadn't bought the electro-static pre- filter I would have spent a fortune on replacement filters by now. Now that JDS packages it with their standard air cleaner, it is even a better deal!

This isn't the cheapest pre-filter in the world, but it is a darn good investment for the long haul. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I hope you have the taps to thread your own holes!
I have the original bar for the Accu-Miter and thought I would upgrade to the "new and improved" bar. Was I surprised when I found out the new bar was not tapped for the screws that hold the indexing pin on. Looks like the factory overlooked this "small" detail. Theoretically you screw the allen head screws down to tighten and spread the nylon spacers on the bar to make them expand and fit the miter slot. I tightened these screws until the allen wrench bent and the nylon spacers didn't spread a hair - another good idea in theory but not in reality. I will keep the bar, but I can see that it will take some "rigging" to get to work as advertised. Let the buyer beware. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality and Efficancy are Clear
The woodshop that I have worked in four the past four years is a college woodshop that is large, often used by many students at once, and also has an extensive and powerful central dust collection system. Keeping in mind the difference between this shop and "home" shops, the application of the JDS Air Filter is to collect the fine dust that the central dust collection system missed. This specific application may be different from home shops but the environment is as good as any to rigorously test the JDS system.

The JDS air filtration system is large and heavy and requires at least two people to install. The mounting harware was convienent but in the case of this shop that has exposed floor joists, the eye bolts could be mounted on 16" centers so no bracing is required. If changing filters saturated with dust is an indication that this beast works, then it clearly filters the air. However, the trim that holds the first filter on the unit is a bit flimsy and has only a friction fit. I would suggest sturdier trim and a better way to attach the trim because though it has not happened yet, constant removal of the trim could wear out the fit or bend the trim. Noise is not an issue and the two speeds are nice. I will say that I have cleaned dust off the top of the unit. This, however is probably due to overworking the unit rather than it effectiveness.

All in all, a bit pricy and large but in over five years of use, none of the working parts have failed nor has any maintence been performed save the filter changing. The quality is evident. ... Read more

The quality is 5 star and once again the unit really does a wonderful job in keeping the airborne dust down. It's so much easier to change filters than ones lungs !

5-0 out of 5 stars JDS 750JE Pocket Filter Element
Our company purchased and installed the JDS Model 750JE in February 2000. This filter has been running in the grinding room for one year now. The filter element finaly needs to be replaced. This filter has done an execent job of traping air born particles. Our grinding room is 12 x 35 with a 10' ceiling and is used daily. This filter element only required occasional blowing out, and the pre filter washed monthly. We highly recommend this unit to anyone with a dust problem. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Needed repair, Not as pcitured
I would rate as 5 stars except for the following:
Upon receiving the Accu-Miter and unpacking, I first noticed that the item pictured was not the total item received. As pictured on the Amazon page the Accu-Miter is shown with the Manual Clamp, but not included in the purchase price. I would think an exclusion should be included in the description. I would still purchase the clamp as a necessary addition to the Accu-Miter.
Upon assembly and setup of the Accu-Miter I found, like others, that the screws which hold the "shot pin" were stripped. After carefully repairing the problem the tool setup perfectly.
I would recommend this tool as a necessary addition to any craftsman.

4-0 out of 5 stars works for me
Having read some of the users reviews left me a little leery in purchasing this product. In fact I first contacted Amazon to inquire about their return policy before I placed my order. It arrived and assembly was straightforward. A good exploded view in the instructions was all I needed to assemble it; I never even read the text. The adjustable bar fit perfectly, no side-to-side movement, glides like it was mated for my table (newer Delta unisaw). The accuracy of the shot-pin was in fact was right on 90 and 45 degrees after I set it with a large drafting square. This I'm sure of with the use of Bridge City Tool square and miter square. The shot pin has no slop in my case, and though the degree scale is of a cast metal that does not perfectly indicate 0/90 degrees or 45 degrees it's cuts are right on. It took a little time to adjust the measuring veneer to the fence and I wish that the flip stop had a magnifier lens like used on my Biesemeyer fence for better accuracy, but I have no problem verifying my measurements first (this giving it a rating of 4). What can I say, luck of the draw? I have no intent of using Accu-Miter for cuts other than 90 degrees. Its front fence is solid and tall. Just what I was looking for to cutting larger stock that will not fit on my cross cut sled.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not at all what is advertised
I just today recieved a new accu miter miter gauge. I was really looking forward to getting a good addition for my table saw. What a huge disappointment. First off there is so much slop in the shot pin setup you have to make several trial cuts and moving one way or the other to remove the slop and get a square cut. ( not a repeatable or positive index lock ) . You can not index the shot pin to 45 and be even close even if you try to move out the slop. My very old craftsman that I wanted to replace is better. It's going back

Accruate NOT!!! The adjustable stop is nice but try to set an angle. The shot-pin type angle setting has to much slop in it. I still have to make a test cut or three and adjust the angle accordingly...

5-0 out of 5 stars The agony of blind dados: Gone
If you cut dados on a table saw, you are cutting them blind and know how dificult it is to get the dados to line up on both boards. Fixing this problem is easy with a JDS Accu-Miter.

First, all your boards are exactly the same length.

Second, the Accu-Miter lets you put the dado in exactly the same position. Finally, the Accu-Miter provides the much needed support along the board while you make the cut. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Designed to remove smoke, odor, and pollen
At the JDS web site, they list this charcoal filter for the JDS 750, as intended to remove smoke, odor, and pollen from the air. I did not see any mention of using it as a paint fumes remover. It also should not in any way be used as an over spray clearer. I had a body shop for twenty years. We used special explosion proof motors for the wall fans, and one in the ceiling stack for the booth, because the build up of flammable paint over spray can be a fire hazard. Additionally, if over spray got near the JDS 750 air cleaner, it would clog at least the initial filter, and since you couldn't clean it properly, it would be rendered useless. The electrostatic pre-filter that comes with this unit is great for removing airborne dust particles etc. It is super easy to clean. It slides right out of the unit, without having to do any disassembly. I use a standard shop vac, to quickly reverse suck the dust out of it. No waiting for the pre filter to dry. If you have the time, gently washing it is the way to go. With the rigid wire mesh protecting it, using a vacuum doesn't damage it, and it a lot more convenient. Back to the charcoal filter.
If you working with someone who smokes, and doesn't bathe as often as you would like, and has a habit of taking a run through the ragweed before coming into the shop, the charcoal filter is just what the doctor ordered. :-) No seriously, it is great for those three things, eliminating smoke, odor, and pollen. Refinishing is best done in the garage, or a dedicated area, with fumes venting outside. Post filters are nice. No matter what you do, for the first 24 hours, you are going to get fumes coming off of the finish. It is a constant source, meeting up with a constant air filtration. (If you leave it running all night) Since it takes a certain amount of time for the filter to work, and the finish emitting fumes is non-stop, I guess you know who will win that race.
The garage is ideal for refinishing. During the summer it is great. During the winter, I use a salamander kerosene forced air heater on the floor with a thermostat. I refinish in the morning, and leave it running during the day. By the end of the day, the finish is baked so nice, it doesn't matter if it gets cold during the night. You don't want to spray refinish with the salamander going at the same time though. It not only is a fire hazard, it also wreaks havoc on your finish. What it does is take the over spray particles, and instantly turn them into baked hard tiny pellets, that are especially well suited to sticking on your finish, and sends them blowing into your shop, rising with the heated air, only to settle down onto your project. Net result, a heavy dust nubbed finish.
I just felt like I should say something about the suitability of this filter for refinishing. Hope it helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great addition for the JDS air cleaner
If you do any finishing/painting in your shop and you have the JDS air cleaner, get this charcoal filter as well. JDS recommends that you only insert it when you need it, ie., when applying a finish to your projects. Otherwise, keep it on a shelf in a plastic bag to keep the charcoal fresh and free of dust. I would imagine this would be recommended for a charcoal filter used on any brand of air cleaner.

The filter replaces the blue fabric diffuser at the exhaust end of the JDS 750. It's pretty easy to install and remove. ... Read more
