1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
It's true that this device is relative quiet (though any graphite-coated
platen will also be quiet), and the belt tracks well, but this sander
has a lot of serious problems.

First, This is really a 4-3/4" sander. It's impossible to set the table
height so that the top of table is even with the bottom of the belt.
In fact, the best that you can get is for the top of the table to
be a little more than an inch above the bottom of the belt, seriously
limiting the amount of belt width that's actually available for use.
Since I need 6" of belt, this one is a show stopper for me.

There are other problems as well:

The table-angle and table-height adjustments are Mickey Mouse.
The angle adjustment has no detents and the protractor scale is very
inaccurate and inconveniently located---you have to use a square every time
you set the set up the sander for 90 degrees. Since I move from
flat to 90-degrees all the time, this is a real inconvenience. Moreover,
the table is held up by two legs that are held in place by two screws,
and that's it. Lifting the table up from the lowest position is
difficult---there's no spring or adjustment screw as in most other
edge sanders, and lifting the table requires a lot of muscle.
To lower the table, you have to hold
up the 30-pound weight of the table with one hand while you release
the set screws with the other. If you slip, the table comes
crashing down to the stops. Moreover, the two legs of the table
don't move evenly, so it's difficult to adjust the table so that
its level.

Though the sander tracks well out of the box, tracking will
need to be adjusted as the belt stretches. Unlike other edge sanders,
there is no convenient knob to adjust tracking. The tracking
adjustments are complicated, and very inconvenient. One of the drums
is adjusted using a small (3mm), easy-to-loose hex wrench. The other
requires fiddling around with a hammer (loosening four screws and nudging
the motor into place). This is way too complicated for an adjustment
that you'll have to do all the time.

Equally inconvenient is the lever that releases the belt tension, which does
not move the drum enough for a new belt to slip on easily. It should
have at least another 1/2" of play when the lever is in the released
position. Consequently, belts have to be worked into place rather than
slipping on smoothly. Finally, you have to remove the dust-collection
hood (three easy-to-loose screws) to use the end stop.

In all, I was very disappointed with this sander. The features that
the other reviewers raved about (such as being able to use
the end for contour sanding) are available in every other sander
on the market, including less expensive ones. Almost all edge
sanders come with graphite-coated platens, nowadays. I'd go with
just about any of the other alternatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Product!
First I'd like to comment on the packaging. I was pleasantly surprised how well they packaged this heavy item for shipping. Even though the carton was torn open at the corner from FEDEX, the styrofoam encased unit was not even scratched. While assembling the unit, I was extremely happy with the quality of the components. The unit runs smooth & quiet. I also like the storage area below for spare belts etc.. My only criticism, and a minor one at that, would be a couple of steps in the assembly instructions that could be clearer. This is the second Jet Product in my shop. I also own the 3 hp. cabinet saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Sander Will Take the Place of a Belt/Disk!

If you're looking for a good, general purpose sander, and you're considering spending a few hundred bucks on a combination belt/disc sander, consider this...

This Jet edge sander will give you a much higher capacity and will perform all the tasks of the belt/disc sander plus give you new capabilities.

It will surface-sand pieces up to 36" with full platen support underneath the piece (you don't have to move the piece to fully sand the entire surface). The end of this sander COULD eliminate any desire you have for an oscillating spindle sander, as well. The curved end of the belt enables shaping and smoothing of curved pieces.

And, of course, it's great on door edges.

Dust collection is better than you'd expect, too.

I use this machine a whole lot more than I ever expected to, and it is one of the best tool purchases I've made.

Great belt tracking, quick belt changes.

One warning, though... It's topheavy, so be careful! You can't push against the platen without turning the machine over! It needs to be secured to a platform or either placed against a wall.

The machine comes with an import motor, of course (a Mao Shan), but mine's been smooth and quiet, and never seems strained.

Overall, a great machine!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jet Edge Sander
This is an excellent product, built with the quality that I have come to expect from Jet. The factory alignment was right on, in terms of right angles, and the tracking needed only minor adjustment, which is easily done. I especially like the end table, for sanding contours. Dust collection seems to work pretty well. The only defect is cosmetic; the paint is peeling from the cast iron table edges. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars wasted my money
I bought these plastic blastgates because they were cheaper than aluminum. What a waste of money! I broke two of them while installing, the slots jam up with chips, and they cannot be taken apart for cleaning. As my funds allow, I will be replacing the plastic with aluminum.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's all the whining about?
I've used these blastgates for about a year in my home basement workshop and have never had a problem. I'll admit I don't use the shop every day, but for the casual user, these gates work great! I have about 4 of these in use. Most of the gates are connected on a hose or pipe in a vertical position (where the gate control is horizontal). This might help the problem that others on this forum seem to be complaining about (with dust collecting in the gate slot). As far as the taper goes, I'll agree the design doesn't need to be tapered. However, using the wire hose clamps tightened securely, I've never had one come off when I didn't want it to.

1-0 out of 5 stars dust jammer
i wish i had read the reviews about clogging. fine dust rapidly accumulates in the grooves the gate slides in and makes closure impossible. works fine on my router table and planer (i guess the chips are too big to get stuck in the small crannies) but any tool making dust will clog in short time

2-0 out of 5 stars Blastgate Needed - Not This One!
With a blastgate at each machine, you can control the air flow from the DC unit as if you only had one machine hooked up, providing the most efficient use of the air suction. By opening and closing each blastgate, as needed, you will get the maximum amount of air flow at all times.

For a more "durable" blastgate, there is a metal version available at a premium. But I have found the plastic gates run into problems with use. They jam with debris and cannot be taken apart to clean. The spot welds, which hold them together, will lossen with use, then the sliding gate, which is a friction function, will not operate properly. The metal gate uses a screw to kept the gate open.

Overall, it is a needed product that allows for maximum use of a dust collection system, with a blastgate installed at each branch to control the air flow to the machine in use. BUT, do not invest in the plastic version, go with the metal blastgate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your time
I would not buy these. They jam with dust. These do not come apart for cleanout. These will only work in a dust free shop. (A shop that is not used.) I recommend the metal gate at the same price. The metal gate is sturdy and solid. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent floor sweep
I agree with the previous reviewer that this is an excellent "tool" to clean up all of the dust and scraps that have would up on the floor. The unit it self is sturdy and should stand up to lots of use. But that is not all it can do.

I found one very cool use for the floor sweep. Since I don't have a sanding table with built in dust collection, I tried something different. I clamped the floor sweep to my bench top and sanded my project in front of the sweep. All of the sanding mess was sucked up into the sweep and away into my DC system.

I definitely give Jet Floor Sweep 1003 and my Jet DC 1100 a big thumbs up.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Finishing Touch
The Floor Sweep is an excellent "tool" to clean up all the dust that escaped from the DC system and made it's way onto the floor. The large size, about 24" by 6", with a 4" outlet, allows for a quick and easy cleanup of the shop floor. Just use it like a regular vacuum cleaner. The plastic housing is heavy duty, will stand up to a lot of use, and abuse.

Include a blastgate to the floor sweep, then you can turn it on and off when needed. It is somewhat too large and bulky to clean the bench tops, but does an excellent job on the floor. It is worth setting up a branch on the DC system just for this floor sweep. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than plastic
I have now traded all my plastic blastgates for aluminum. They cost a bit more, but are worth it. They don't clog as easily, and if they do, are easier to clean. The setscrew helps to keep it open or closed. Don't waste your money on plastic blastgates.

5-0 out of 5 stars The advantages of the Jet aluminum blastgate
In addition to being a good grounding connector for a smooth metal ductwork system, and being able to seal it with aluminum tape, it also has a cleaning advantage. Think about the irony of a blast gate. If you wanted to create an ideal headache for creating, and not being able to clean out trapped dirt, a blast gate is it. You have a lot of material passing by a narrow slit in the gate, and to make matters worse, opening and closing the gate are constantly packing it in. So you have this guillotine gate packing dust debris down into a tiny crevice on a regular basis. If you have been playing with blast gates for a while, you realize that cleaning out that packed in dust is a nuisance chore.
On a plastic gate, you are stuck with having to use a sharp tool to try and dig down into the crevice and loosen the packed in debris. With this Jet aluminum gate, you have the option of being able to unscrew the gate face and do a nice job of cleaning it out. You can even do that without having to disconnect the hoses, which makes it even less work.

Another nice feature about the Jet metal gate is that it has a locking knob. With the plastic gates, if they are not mounted sideways, then tend to slip slowly into a closed position. So if the gate is mounted with the flap sitting on top, with a plastic gate, gravity and vibration creates a gate closing movement. So I purposely mount them sideways in order to prevent that. That is not always the best angle depending on the configuration of your set up. With the Jet, having a locking knob, you can set it at any angle you want, and lock it into position. Nice feature.
All in all a very nice gate. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
Plastic blastgates cost almost as much as their aluminum cousins. So why buy plastic?

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb blastgates
I went straight to the aluminum after reading the reviews about the differences between aluminum and plastic. There is no reason to skimp on dust collection and these really make life easy. One per tool or hose connection and you are all set. No worrys about quality here. These are tough gates, made for years of use and abuse.

4-0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Worker
This aluminum blastgate is a real workhorse, very well constructed and much more dependable than it's plastic cousin. The aluminum is put together with screws, the plastic blastgate is tack welded. When/if the tack weld loosens, you've lost your blastgate. Get the aluminum blastgate.

The aluminum will also hookup to the grounding system, making a much easier connection than the plastic gates. The only downside is that it is a little pricey, but a DC system is something that should be build to stay and to use, this aluminum blastgate will foot the bill. ... Read more

Jet's DC-650 is a mighty dust-collecting machine, but it's only as effective as the filter bag you install in it. This one's tailor-made for that model, and it filters particles down to an incredible 5 microns. We've wrestled enough bags into dust collectors to feel qualified to say that changing out this bag is far from a harrowing experience; it's got an elastic top, and that makes all the difference. Your workspace will be healthier, your tools free from that fine coating of sawdust, and most important of all, your lungs will be clearer. We know it's spendy for a bag, but you really do get what you pay for. Clean lungs are a great investment.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Saw ... But...
Don't get me wrong, I love Jet Tools, in fact I have a Jet planer, bandsaw, dust collect, jointer, Spindle Sander, .... and they are a great value for the price as compared to other manufactures. So when I decided to upgrade my old worn out Craftsman, and I order this super saw from Amazon. It assembled perfect, and runs perfectly. The fence is certainly a dream to use when compared to my old craftsman fence, but I wanted to upgrade to an Incra fence, and I found out that it will not work on my Super saw and when I called Incra. They don't have plans to fix the design to work on this Jet TS. Another complaint, is that the miter slot on the left side of the blade, is an inch and a half farther from the blade. My Delta Tenion Jig is too far away from the blade to use. So I called Jet, and they are aware of this, and they do plan to make available a plate that you can adapt to your Tenion Jig, but that won't be until later this year. Still for the price and the value I do love my super saw, but if you want to upgrade to a different fence, it may not adapt. I do appreciate Amazon for allowing everyone to submit comments. It has helped me so much in my decision on what tools to buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reminds me of a foreign car!
Ordered the Supersaw in early December and it finally arrived in mid-January. The Fed-X guy came with a lift gate truck and a pallet jack. Delivered it to my garage in 2 minutes. There it sat!! The mobile base was on back order so I left it on the pallet. Couldn't wait to use it so I added the wings and fence and ripped a 2X6 pine just about as fast as I could feed it. Have a WW2 blade and the edges were smooth. Crosscut was right on the 90 degree mark. Easy to assemble and no adjustment needed. Got the mobile base about 3 weeks after the saw arrived.

Fit & finish is good. The wings have a few finish problems, but nothing other than cosmetic.

Dust collection is great even with just using a shop vac. My new Jet 1100CK dust collector is also on back-order. But, that's another story.

Now about the foreign car part. I suspect parts may be hard to get for a while. Sorry to hear there may be a problem with the timing belt. I have confidence the engineers will correct this since this machine seems to be very well engineered. Caution, everything except the scale on the rip fence and the table slots are metric. The T slots on the fence are tiny. Won't accept the standard 1/4" nuts. Had to use 10x24 nuts to attach the router fence to the rip fence.

If you're thinking about installing a router table in place of the right table wing, think hard. I did it, but it wasn't easy. Had to make sure the router table wasn't too thick because there is a ledge on the front rail of the rip fence that makes it so you don't have 27" of clearance all the way between front and rear rails. Also had a devil of time getting M-10x30 allen head cap screws to use when attaching the router table. Hardware stores don't carry anything larger than M-8.

I hope to get a lifetime of enjoyment(or at least 20 years) from this set-up. Love the way it sounds when it starts up. The capacitors on the motor cause it to purr like a Lexus entering an expressway. And the lights don't dim!

1-0 out of 5 stars I cant rate this because of poor service
I received parts of this saw two months ago. Missing was the fence, rails, left wing extention and accessory package box. I wrote Amazon and slowly over the next month I received the fence, rails and fence. The accessory package box did not come. I have now asked for it, clearly, 5 times. Each time Amazon replies very politely with, it's been ordered by our parts department, it will be there in 7-10 days. Each time 7-10 days go by and nothing. Last week I received a plastic envelope with 8 bolts and a plastic knob. Inside of this I found a receipt from Jet and a telephone number. I called them and they were very cooperative and helpfull. The parts I needed are on the way and no thanks to Amazon. I wish I could rate the saw. It looks great in my garage, but until I get the missing parts I cant put it together. The service is a one, hopefully the saw will be a five.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT SAW/GREAT PRICE
After wearing out a cheap shop saw, we researched and chose the JET supersaw. It arrived crated on a palate by truck, but we were able to get it where we wanted it piece by piece. It set up easily and quickly and did not require hiring two men & a boy to lift it. It works well on the stand & handles an after-market add-on router table with ease, giving us a terrific set up at half the cost of the "top of the line" macho saws... we run a small woodcraft & stained glass shop and it does everything we need it to do and well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A costly error avoided
I was just looking at this saw yesterday at a local tool supplier and they made me a deal that was too good to be true. I was told they needed to move out older stock to make room for a new shipment that was scheduled to arrive next week. (Hmmm . . . that's the same line that was used on me last summer when I stopped to look at a "99" F250.) I pulled out my checkbook but hesitated and said that I had to get back to the job and I would come back tomorrow and look it over better. I learned a long time ago that a deal that sounds too good to be true usually isn't. Besides, I seldom buy anything without checking at Amazon first for prices and customer reviews. Much of the time I end up buying here which is often enough that when our UPS driver changed routes he stopped to say good-bye.

Even if the belt and gear problems have been have been addressed and are no longer problematic I still don't want to give a second thought to the reliability of a piece of equipment. Twenty six years ago I bought a used Delta Unisaw for $900 from a cabinetmaker who had retired and was moving to Florida. When it runs all you all hear is the whoosh of the blade and a slight hum of the motor. Now that I think of it I don't know why I even wanted a new saw. Maybe it was the same reason my grandson used to pick the shiny new penny out of my hand and leave the dull old quarter.

I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write a product review, and especially thanks to Amazon for their willingness to post them good or bad. For several years I have avoided a lot of grief because of you. Since I have decided not to buy the Jet Supersaw my 5 stars are for Amazon.com and all of you who write the product reviews.

Oh by the way, I didn't buy the truck either. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Technicals
When installing a dust collection system, eliminating resistance to airflow is what it is all about. The ideal is as large a pipe as possible, flowing in a straight line, without any ridges in the surface. Of course in the real world at least some of these things wind up being less than ideal. What this Jet 4" elbow does, is give you a large pipe, that makes a gradual turn as opposed to a straight 90 degree angle, and the sides of the elbow are smooth. So when you need to make a turn with your air flow, this elbow does the nicest job.
The fit snugs neatly inside the standard 4" flex pipe. With some 4" Jet wire clamps which are also highly recommended over standard pipe-band clamps and this Jet elbow your all set for some hassle free collecting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good enough!
I attached this elbow directly to the intake port of my Jet dust collector. If you don't suspend your 4" hose from above, then using this elbow allows you to run the flex hose horizontally to a piece of equipment (also saving hose length). May not be completely necessary, but it does take the stress off the hose, especially if you move it around a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
This is not a complex piece of equipment. The 2 ends are consistent at 4 inches, the hose fit snuggly over each end and the clamps held securely.

Use this connector when a tight turn is needed, and the hose itself will not be able to hold the radius of the turn. Otherwise, the hose should be flexible enough to make the turn. ... Read more
