Wow! What an amazing dust hose adapter. You wouldn't believe this thing. Attach it to your planer and watch the wood chips just fly down the little black hose. You can't actually see the wood chips because it is opaque, but they do go through the hose, believe me. Don't believe me, just buy one and connect it to your planer and then check the bucket on your dust collector. Yup, piles of wood chips and sawdust, just like I told ya'. ... Read more

Blades seem ok
I used one side of the blades to plane pine wood. The boards were 4 in. wide, about 1/2 inch thick and approx. 6 ft long. I planes them down to about 3/8 in. I did about 8 pieces. Blades Last a Long time and are EASY to Install
I have been running the same set of blades in my Delta 22-560 Planer for over a year. I use them to plane quarter-sawn white oak and have done about 1500 board feet. The blades are still sharp. I have not yet felt a need to flip them. I did remove them once to see how hard it would be. The locator holes in the blades made it EASY. The tight tolerence between the holes and the locator pins insured a minimal (less than .002")runout. The only possible problem is that the two blades MUST be ground exactly the same, there is no method to fine tune the alignment. This is not really a big problem for most sharpening services. The price is quite good, I would call them a good value.

Fits easy and collects most of the chips
It took me about five minutes to put this on my planer. It gets about 99% of the dust and I'm using a 6hp, 18.6 gallon shop vac.

A hint for you if you plan on using a shop vac with this. You will need a 4 - 2 1/4 reducer. This will fit your shop vac just fine, all you need is a 2 1/2 splice and I found this at my local home center with the shop vac accessories. The 4" part of this is another story. The end of the chute is 4" and the reducer end is 4", they don't fit together they just butt up against each other and I couldn't find any kind of 4" splice. The solution for this is to use a dust collector hose but they are expensive so I bought a dryer vent hose. Normally that hose would collapse but since I'm only using to keep both of these parts together there is nothing to collapse. It works great and will save you from having to buy 20' of dust collector hose to only use 3".

PS Don't forget to get two 4" clamps to hold everything together.

Delta 50-445 4" Dust Collector Chute (For Model 22-560)
This Delta Dust Collector Chute is a must! No directions for installation, but installed easily once figured out. The chute must be removed to change planer knives ... a minor inconvenience. I had concerns about how to connect the 4" chute exhaust to my 2-1/4" shop-vac hose. Problem solved at my local plumbing store.

"Ya gotta have this"
This is a must have, if you are using the Delta 22-560 planer. It not only collects the dust, but a good 90% of the chips as well. The fit is excellent and only takes a couple of minutes to install. If you are using a wet/vac for dust control it may not work as well, but if you have a 4" system this is the cat's meow.I'm going to two stage my collection system so the chips fall into a "can", because you can really fill the bag on the vac quickly when you are planing a lot of material. Delta got this one right.

Don't Forget This!
Planers create a lot of sawdust/shavings. Get this and hook it up to a dust collector. Only the smallest amount of shavings coming out after that. It really helps keep the shop and your projects clean. ... Read more

Delta Knock-off's
I ordered the Delta 37-365X Jointer and a set of knives for back up. When the knives arived, they were not in a Delta box and Delta's name/part number was not printed on the knives. This jig is not always the best way to go
My joiner is an old 4 1/8 inch Craftsman. It runs pretty good but the knives are not easy to set. This jig seemed to be just the thing but there are two short comings I found:

1. When the jig is lined up with the knife at top dead center, the screws holding the knife in place are not accessible. So the jig has to be moved forward enough to get the knives to rotate just a bit. By this time, the knives are to high. With this set up, no amount of tweeking got both knives parallel and at the same height.

The way I tested whether the knives were parallel was to join a piece of scrape (3/4 x 3 1/2). This joined edge (3/4) was placed on the cast iron saw table and a square was used to see if the 3 1/2 side was 90 degrees to the table. I never had a test run where this was the case.

Another way I came up with was a ruler. The ruler was placed on the infeed side with the "6" on the very edge, side closest to the fence. Then the cutter was rotated until the steel blade hit the ruler. The contact point on the ruler was noted. In my case, this was about 7 1/16 on the ruler. Then the ruler was moved to the other end of the knive and the process was repeated. Most of the time I could not detect a difference so maybe my machine is the real problem.

2. The magnets were not strong enough to pull up the knives every time. Sure, the jig would stick to the cast iron table but the knives would often stay put. I used a spare rare earth magnet to pull the knives up to the jig magnets. Once in place, the knives would stay put most of the time. I ended up making another little tool with the magnet screwed to a scrap piece of wood. This was used to pull the knives up to the jig magnet.

So, I'll keep the tool as it came by way of UPS and sending it back would not be free. But I would be very careful about recommending the jig. ... Read more
