An Essential Tool
If you are installing cabinets this is one tool you do not want to be without. Works well but you may need more than two if your cabinets are large or if fighting with a really uneven floor.

great clamp but could be improved
These work well for hanging cabinets and make short work out of alignment. My only critisism is the pin (a rolled piece os steel that holds the two pieces of the clamp together at the screw) repeatedly came out of the hole and allows the clamp to separate. This has happened to both clamps and has been remedied by opening the cylinder with a nail set and redriving it back into the hole. They are always in my tool box and they are used heavily as I am a cabinet maker.If they fix the pin with a threaded hole and pin with a screw thread on the end I would have given it a 5+. I will buy another set in the future.

Cabinet Installers take Note!
Have you ever tried to install kitchen cabinets? How about by yourself? Uh huh. If you have then the brilliance of these clamps will be obvious. I wish I had invented them. You not only pull the cabinets together tight, but you are able to get the faces (stiles) even (flush).

The only other thing you'll need is a drill bit made for the pilot hole.

Easy on, not so easy off...
Bought a set of these because the concept looks great. They worked well to align the first two cabinets I installed, but one of the clamps would not come off! It felt like it was cross-threaded and would not open up. After nearly tearing the skin off the palms of my hands, I had to resort to a pipe wrench which opened the clamp at the expense of the threaded shaft, it fractured into two pieces. I would like to buy another set, but probably won't just out of principle.

A Woodshop Standard
These versatile clamps are simple, strong, and a cost effective clamping solution. I recomend using black iron pipe as it is softer than galvanized and therefore the clamp grabs it better. Most stores that sell black pipe will cut and thread it for free. Have them thread both ends and use a cap from a pop bottle to cover the unused end. You can the use cheap pipe unions to join the two pipes to make a longer clamp.

Why buy Pony Brand? They are superior to their asian knockoffs in EVERY WAY. Pony pipe clamps are always concentric (nearly every asian made clamp I've owned are eccentric and do not operate smoothly and require serious grinding to make them usable).

The pony's screw is larger in diameter and the threads are beefier. I have bent some asian clamps thread post but never a Pony's.

When you are gluing up a panel and trying to beat titbond's tack time and suddenly your Chinese clamp binds up on you you will say to yourself NEXT TIME ITs GOING TO BE PONY!

This is one of the last of the quality "MADE IN THE USA" tools that hopefully will never change.

Oh - one more thing - I've seen these ebay used for what Amazon is selling new ones for!

Good product, but get some clamp pads, too
I built a shed recently, making the door from tongue-and-groove decking boards. Before I could attach the 2x4 braces I needed to clamp the tongue-and-groove planks together. To fit big tools in the shed this door is 3-1/2' wide, so I needed a couple of big clamps. Two of these Jorgensen fixtures, plus a pair of 5' black pipes, did the trick quite nicely.

A few useful tidbits:

- The threaded black pipe recommended for use with these clamps comes with black grease to lubricate and deter corrosion. Clean this off before attaching the clamps so you won't mess up your wood.

- I strongly recommend getting a set of rubber clamp pads when you order your clamp fixtures. You only need one set for two fixtures. Don't gouge up your wood.

- The screw clamp fits into the orange sliding flat surface with a steel pin. One of mine came out, and I had to go get a hammer to re-assemble the clamp. I deducted one star for this, but it was just annoying rather than a fatal flaw.

- Black pipe typically comes in sizes from 1' to 5'. Shop for the pipe before buying the clamp fixtures if you need more than 5'. The fixtures take up a good half foot themselves, so 4' pipe wouldn't have worked with my 3-1/2' door.

Bottom line: an essential tool if you're trying to build something big. Recommended.

Very good, sturdy clamps. I only rated them 4 stars because Rocklers surefoot is a much better design with equal the quality. Use galvanized pipe, same price & it won't rust or stain your work. Also for some homebrewed clamp pads take some scrap 3/4" fir plywood, it's relatively soft & doesn't split, cut it into roughly 2" x 3 1/2" pieces. Then drill a 1 1/8" hole towards one end & paint it with polyuerathane. Slip it over the pipe & screw it to the clamp faces from behind with #6 x 3/4" sheet metal screws. You'll wind up with decent clamp pads that won't stick to glue or come off of the clamp.

The Tool that Time Forgot
I've used these hoary things in my shop for decades, and they always do what they're designed to. They're cheap, versatile, nearly indestructible, and still made in the good ol' USA. However, I wonder what Amazon's writers were thinking when they described these as having a "hardened steel thrust bearing".

A Shop Basic
If you work with wood, you need a few sets of these. They're strong to the point of being unbreakable, they won't flex under any reasonable clamping load, and they stay upright and won't roll around.

One tip: Get some 3/4" foam pipe insulation and keep it with the clamps. You can cut pieces of foam to varuious lengths, and wrap them around the pipe. That'll keep your wood from getting dented or oily from contact with the pipe. ... Read more

Jorgensen #2 clamps
I own a small cabinet makeing shop and have been useing Jorgensen clamps for years. I prefer the number 2 because its a middle of the road size for most wood working projects. My number one preference for the clamp is the way the wooden handles are attached to the threaded steel. I have never twisted a handle off yet when clamping. The versatility of the clamp also allows you to clamp irregular pieces together by not drawing the clamp together uniformaly.The hard maple does not mar your work surfaces either. Another plus to Jorgensen clamps has to be the ease of glue cleanup when a little to much runs onto the clamp. Big bad clamps!!
I love these clamps. The steel construction is very sturdy, and heavy! When used with the Mastadon pads, they are just perfect to clamp together bookcases, cabinets and other wood projects. I especially like the large crank handles, which provides excellent feedback to the hand on the amount of pressure being applied to the work pieces. If you need to apply a lot of clamping pressure on your project, you can't beat this heavy-duty clamps!

Jorgensen I-Bar Clamps
The I-Bar Clamps from Jorgensen are a step up from the traditional 'pipe clamp' that are very common. My first purchase of the 7200 series clamps was for a large kitchen that I was going to build. I noticed immediately that the I-Bar clamps were very heavy, twice as much as my usual pipe clamps. The heads and armature that tightens the body down on the material needing to be clamped were 30% larger and the I-Bar did not flex under pressure. I used fewer clamps and this allowed for more doors/panels to be glued up based upon the traditional pipe clamps that I had been using. I found the clamps to be very rugged, durable, easy to use, large enough to handle any situation outside the shop, and affordable. The Best Clamp
Jorgensen I-bar clamps are the proverbial "be all and end all" when it comes to wood working clamps. They last forever and are extremely powerful. In comparison to Bessey (the other major manufacturer of woodworking clamps) I prefer Jorgensen for the following reasons:
1. Jorgensen's crank allows you to get more force on an object than Bessey's handl.
2. The I bar is smooth (as opposed to the Bessey which has raised bumps which are part of its locking mechanism). This makes it much easier to clean off glue which will inevitabley get on the clamp.
3. The Jorgensen clamp is much stronger than the the Bessey; I've seen numerous k -body clamps with cracked jaws.

It should be noted that one should take caution when gluing with the Jorgensen clamps; if the wood and glue come in contact with the bar, this will cause the wood to stain. Always keep the wood off of the bar. This is not a concern with the Bessey, which uses an aluminum bar. Great clamp - Only available from the Tool Crib
I have used these clamps and have about thirty of them ranging from the 36" ones to 72". I needed more and had a difficult time finding them until I tried the Tool Crib. I wont use any others for my work. They are light and easy to manage. The only improvement I would recommend is more notches for adjustment than the standard one per inch. Great clamps!

Lightweight clamp -- great results
I have and use 12 of these aluminum clamps. They don't get stickey from glue, or rust and discolor your wood project. They are intended for normal glue-ups, which means that you start with good-fitting joints. If anyone is having trouble with binding or sticking of the clamp parts, they have been exceeding the intended uses of this tool. Very few "bar" type clamps are rated for bending wood, or wood laminations into a form. These clamps excel when doing edge-to-edge glue-ups, a process that can suffer from too great of a clamp pressure. Use these clamps for your next cabinet project, you won't be sorry ....

Terrible Clamp
I own a lot of clamps and this is the worst built clamp I have ever seen. When you turn the screw to remove the clamp, the screw comes loose from the jaws, and the jaws stay clamped with noway to remove them except to pry or beat them loose. Would never buy again. A matter of preference
I believe the HD Jorgensens are the best bar clamps available. Bessey's tradesman are good, but can be a little inconsistant on the quality control end & a little too expensive. Record's are good too but very expensive. I prefer the Jorgensen's clutch, it holds better. You can snug the clamp up tight enough to hold the work yet still make adjustments just by pushing it together, an excellent feature. Jorgensen's pads are top notch, they're thick & soft & truly protect the work. The Jorgensen swivel allows you to clamp up to about a 15 degree angle with no additional clamping aids, very nice. I like the big wooden handles, I find them easy on the hands. Untill someone comes up with a better featured bar clamp, "Jorgies" will remain the prefered clamp on my workbench.

Good clamps. Not Bessey, next best thing and cheaper. 4 stars only cause their wooden handles look like they were made in Iraq.

One of the essentials when setting up a shop. You need multiples of all sizes. The Jorgensen along with the Pony pipe clamps are my favorites. They are easy to set up and use, they hold the piece tight and with the rubber pads they don't mar the wood. They also make a 24" and above with a ratcheting system (very nice). Meet the new boss....
I own two of the Bessey K-body clamps at this same size (well, close - the 31" clamps) and would have rated them five stars. But I decided to give these clamps a try, and now the Besseys, though still excellent clamps, drop to four stars and the Jorgensens get a solid five. They have all the benefits of the K-body clamps, with some clever improvements. There is a very nicely designed clip at the end of the bar which can be removed to allow the movable jaw to be reversed to turn the clamp into a spreader. The clip also does double duty - it is the same height as the two jaws, so it stabilizes the end of the bar when the two jaws are close together (i. e., when you are clamping something small). With the Besseys, if you set the clamp on the floor and move the jaws close together, the unsupported end causes the clamp to tilt - the clip on the Jorgensens eliminates this minor annoyance. The jaw faces are considerably larger - this is a small advantage in length, but the extra width is really useful. You can lay the clamps on their side and still have useful clamping depth - not a lot, granted, but useful if you only need to clamp 3/4" or so, in which case you can put pressure on a much longer area. This would help in edge joining boards, for example. And the larger handle is more comfortable.
Jorgensen has the K-bodies beat in pretty much every feature. The Besseys are still most excellent clamps - I'm certainly not getting rid of mine, but my future purchases will be the Jorgensens. By the way, these comments are specifically about the 24" and 30" clamps that I actually own and have used, but I don't see why they wouldn't also be true of the other lengths. ... Read more

Great Gift
Bought this clamp for my husband, didn't know what I was really doing. But he said that it was one of the easiest and best clamps on the market. So I guess I got lucky and chose a good brand.

I always wanted one of these
These are the kind of clamps I always saw in pictures when I was a kid. So, I always associated these with wood working. They are high quality and very well made. You won't regret getting a set.

They are for every purpose as you can see. Curved and small surfaces are not what these are for. However if you need to clamp flat surfaces without marring, then this is a great clamp to use.

I believe in the romance of wood working and part of it is having tools made of wood. If you believe the same, get a set and you'll feel as good as I do about having them in your shop.

World's strongest clamp
If you need a tremendous amount of pressure, this is the clamp. The tightening handle is no-nonsense. I dropped one of these clamps, and put a nice big chip in the concrete floor.

I have one beef with these beefy clamps. The jaw on the clutch side is not parallel to the jaw on the screw side. It becomes parallel as you tighten the screw. I love to use these clamps on butcher block glue-ups. The problem is that sometimes the jaw on the clutch side causes your boards to slip when you are tightening. I usually use a couple speed or F clamps first, then get the jaws of death on it. ... Read more

Not Godzilla, But A Strong Clamp
For maximum clamping power, the ¾" pipe clamp is the way to go. If your needs are not as demanding, then then this is the clamp for you.

The crank style handle worked very smooth and has adequate travel. The adjustment with the handle was such that either light or heavy pressure could be applied with ease. The clamps can also be set horizontally on a flat surface allowing you to edge glue pieces for tabletops very easily. The beauty of this style clamp is the ability to change clamping length needs quickly. One clamp with multiple lengths of threaded steel1 ½" pipe gives you endless capabilities.

While the steel bar type clamps does have their niche for lighter task (drawer construction, carcasses assembly, etc) and the ¾" pipe clamps handle you most demanding jobs, these clamps could be considered a hybrid (in capacity rating) of the two. For my money though, its worth a little extra in investing in the ¾" model as oppose to this one. But then again, why not have both? You can never have enough clamps!!!

A good clamp - with limitations.
These clamps are the little cousin of Pony's great 3/4" pipe clamps. While the 1/2" clamps work fine within their limits, they do have limits. Applying a lot of pressure will flex a 1/2" pipe, possibly leading to an out of square joint. I also do not think that the clamp tightening mechanism is as well made as on the 3/4" clamps, but it is still pretty good. I have several of these clamps and while I think they are a good value for the money, I would suggest spending a few more dollars for the 3/4" clamps.

solid clamp
This is a solid well made clamp. The photo does not do it justice THIS IS A HEAVY DUTY CLAMP! I was impressed when I pulled it out of the box. I have used it to glue up a drawer for a piece I am building and it worked well there was no twisting the movable end slid nicely and stayed when set there is a clutch to keep it in place.
