Amazon.com Review

Milwaukee's 18-volt, 6-1/2-inch circular saw features a wide, sturdy base, tool-free bevel adjustment up to 50 degrees, a 2.4 amp hrni-cad battery for a long run time, and an electric brake. The6-1/2-inch blade runs at 3,200 rpm, and easily cuts two-by-four material on a45-degree bevel. Tools are often described as having good balance; withMilwaukee's saw it's easy to see what this means. Held in a regulargrip--with the saw's weight balanced on your fingers right behind thetrigger--the saw will hang just about level, so all the lifting is donewith your arm rather than your wrist and hand. Balance like this, coupled with the saw's comfortable soft-grip handle, makes a bigdifference in user fatigue at the end of the day. In fact, everythingabout the saw seems designed with user convenience in mind, right downto the thumb-reachable placement of the safety catch, and the big,easy-to-depress spindle-lock button for blade changes. The saw comes withtwo batteries, a one-hour charger, a sturdy rip fence, a 6-1/2-inchblade, and a tough carrying case. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

  • 3200 rpm with electric brake, great balance

5-0 out of 5 stars the cordless circle saw standout
I've had the new Milwaukee 18v Circle Saw for a few weeks now, I sold my 18v DeWalt to a friend of mine. Although the DeWalt was a decent saw, it didn't have the power or or even near the run time of this Milwaukee, the 2.4 amp hour battery is really an innovation in cordless tools. I've cut through just about everything with this saw, including uni-strut, 2x12 material, 3/4" plywood, and many other types of building material. This saw never bogged down, even through a wet 2x12, it got the job done time and time again. I guarantee you will not be sorry if you purchase this saw, it is the standard in which all others will be measured.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely durable, long run time, powerful
Excellent, excellent cordless saw. I replaced a Dewalt 18v cordless with this saw. In my opinion, Milwaukee is the superior saw. This saw is every bit heavy duty; made in the U.S.A. The saw has terrific balance, much better than the Dewalt, and a comfortable soft grip handle. Dewalts 18v offers 3700rpm but don't be fooled-the battery pack will drain faster. The milwaukee saw has longer run time at 3200 rpm and 2.4amp hr battery packs (2 batteries in this kit vs. only 1 w/ Dewalts saw - at the same price!)and plenty of power. Milwaukee will soon offer 2.6 amp hr NiMH battery packs for even longer run time, however, I believe they will have to be purchased as an accessory. The saw is unbelievably powerful. It rips through 2X material w/ ease and cuts OSB beautifully. I was most impressed when it sliced through 1X oak. The case is nice but bulky. I have replaced it w/ a bucketboss long-boy bag which has room to spare for other tools. When you are trying to decide on a cordless tool, you are pretty much committed to the entire line of tools. Go w/ Milwaukee: Quality, durability, and a new line of 18 volt products that you can buy w/out battery packs/cases to add new tools to your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbridled yet accurate power
You simply can't bog this guy down. I compared this to a Hitachi C6DC and although the Hitachi was slightly more comfortable, I couldn't get used to the blade on the right and the Milwaukee seemed to get through 2x8s effortlessly. The Hitachi could get the same job done, but it was worked harder than the Mil. Great tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great saw. Feels right in your hand
The Milwakee 18v circular saw is a great saw. The 18 volts gives it enough power to cut through even very hard woods, and by the time the battery gets low, the second battery is already charged and ready to go.

I used this saw on a project with Mangeris wood, which is HARD. The saw had more than enough power to do the job without slowing or binding, and cuts were straight and true.

The best part about this saw, though, was that it just feels right in your hand. Balance is critical in an 18volt tool, and the Milwakee is perfect. I spent all day with it and didn't get overtired. I've used other circular saws, both corded and cordless, but this is by far my favourite.

4-0 out of 5 stars the best of the cordless saws by far.
ok, first off if anyone expects to rip thru lumber using a cordless saw with anywhere near the performance of a corded saw your in for a big disapointment.

The milwaukee 18v cordless saw is by far the best cordless saw out right now, I have used the dewalt and bosch and makita and
ryobi also porter.

For cutting thru 2x4's it will satisfy you quite well going thru about 30 - 50 on a battery, evan 2x6 thru 2x12 it does good. I tried to cut out a 2x12 10 step riser for stairs and it could not get thru it on a fresh battery.

Plywood especially 3/4 burns up batterys super quick.

now the upside, awesome balance, great power when the battery
is strong and ofcoarse awesome for roof work or any quick cutting jobs where you don't want to set up a cord.

for trim and mouldings you can cut all day, it did cut thru IPE wood an extremely hard wood (one inch by six) with fair ease.

a Joy and pleasure to use and will almost double the dewalt performance.

But:::: If you have alot to cut bring out the cord, if your cutting very wet or pressure lumber bring out the corded saw,
if your cutting lots of plywood bring out the corded saw,
if your ripping down more than a few pieces of 2x material bring out the corded saw.

If you must go cordless for these things have at least 3 batteries on hand and the new milwaukee 3 bay charger, in that case this saw has the balls to go all day and get thru almost any material, I just find, in the above listed cases it's alot easier to plug in and not have to worry about batteries.

but definetly the best in it's class... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

You get two tools in one when you buy this kit. Milwaukee's Magnum hammer drill can be used as a regular drill for boring in wood or metal, or it can be switched over for use as a hammer drill, allowing percussion carbide-bit drilling in concrete and masonry. You can feel the quality of this tool when you hold it--its reinforced nylon resin casing, which is lighter and stronger than metal, offers better heat dissipation and chemical resistance. The machined, keyed, industrial chuck is impressive, too, featuring deep, heavy-duty teeth that up the maximum bite on the bit.

Of course, when a hammer drill is used in heavy-duty industrial situations, the brushes wear out quickly; taking this into account, Milwaukee's Magnum drill conveniently comes with a removable brush cartridge system, so you can change brushes in seconds (there are even two extra brushes stored inside). We also liked the Quik-Lok cord set, which makes it easy to switch cord lengths (if you have one of the optional cords). There's also a handy depth guide adjustment that makes it easy to repeat accurate holes. While the dual operation of this drill is a great feature, if you intend to use it primarily for wood and metal work, you may want to consider a drill designed for that purpose; the Magnum, because of its dual-action capability, is larger and heavier than standard drills. But if you're interested in a tool that can handle both applications, we think this is a great choice. --Tim Block ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For [most] all of your concrete drilling needs...
I bought this drill because I needed to secure a few walls to the concrete floor of a basement. Okay, so it was overkill, but I'm not much on renting. Did the job, no problem. That was expected. I then used it to "cut" a large chunk out of the foundation so I could add a door to the outside from the basement. The foundation is 12" poured aggregrate, and here in Mass. (next to NH, the Granite State), the aggregate contains quite a bit of granite. Anyway, 150 or so holes later (1/2 holes, all the way through the 12" aggregate), the chunk is out and the door is in. In short, I don't believe a mickey-mouse drill would have drilled 1 of those holes, much less all of them.
Took quite a while (several evenings), mainly because bits don't do well when they hit granite. Nonetheless, the drill worked (and still does work) great. No problems recommending this one highly. Heavy duty? Without a doubt.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good drill
I burned out Dad's old hammer drill, and I needed
one to finish my job and get him a replacement.
Unfortunately, Dad has not yet got ahold of this one.

In hindsight, I wish I had gotten the keyless chuck
version, but this is a rugged piece of equipment.
It has enough power to easily rip the drill from
your hand if the bit happens to grab ahold of something.
And dual variable speed is a nice touch.

What I dont like about it is that the collar to
switch from hammer to regular drill is easily
bumped and switched inadvertently.
Also, the power cable must be detached from the
drill before it will fit into its carrying case.
Attaching and removing the cord is relatively easy,
except in dark corners, but I wish the case
were just a bit bigger so that I wouldnt have to
attach and detach the cord everytime I get the
drill out and put it away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I expected and then some!
I bought this drill because I needed to drill some 1/2" holes in concrete. Before buying, I read a number of reviews of both this drill and others (by DeWalt, Bosch, etc.). This drill got the most favorable reviews, and after using it I can see why. It drilled the holes like it was drilling through warm butter. I didn't notice it heating up, but I only had to drill 25 such holes for this particular task. I did have the problem of the locking ring slipping from hammer to drill, but only once and that was while drilling the first hole. If it had happened again I'd blame the drill, but it didn't so I blame myself. I had no problems with the trigger hole pinching my finger, although ... the trigger lock is in an awkward position. Nonetheless, I give it five stars because it drills like five stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars ALMOST perfect
Although we have used this model for years, it is gradually being replaced by a similar model which has a keyless chuck. Once you get used to the keyless, it becomes difficult to find fault with the system. This particular model works beautifully, performing all appropriate tasks without a hitch. If you need a half-inch hammer drill, this is clearly my first choice in a keyed-chuck model.

5-0 out of 5 stars When you won't settle for less than the besr
The old addage, "you get what you pay for" is so true. There are other less expensive hammer drills out there, but none will stand the test of time as this one will. By the time you compare buying a case and drill bits alone, this stands out as a great deal. I worked for an HVAC company in Alaska, and believe me, I put this drill to the test. This time, the drill is all mine, and to be sure, my son will enjoy in the years to come as well. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Milwaukee's close-quarters drill is designed to make drillingin tight and hard-to-reach spaces as easy as possible. The drill has astout 3.5 amp motor that provides trigger-controlled variable speedsfrom 0 to 1,300 rpm. It also comes with a heavy-duty keyed chuck. Toprevent loss, a chuck key attaches to the cord via a rubber tie. Thetwo things that make this drill so effective in close-quarters work arethe 55-degree chuck angle and the molded grip situated directly behindthe chuck, two features that combine to put the user's pushing forcedirectly behind the bit. This is key, of course, because you tend tohave less strength to offer when you're holding a drill in a tight orhard-to-reach space. By making efficient use of the strength you do putinto the operation, Milwaukee's drill makes the job that much easier.Lastly, we also really like the convenient location of the triggerswitch, even if it is sometimes a little too easy to pull before youintend to. This drill comes in handy for electrical work and cabinetry.Milwaukee also makes a 1/2-inch chuck for use with bigger bits.--Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Its Purpose
When doing some wiring in my old house, I decided I needed a new tool when I had to break out 16" of plaster to drill a hole for a cable through a firestop. I tried to get by with a right-angle attachment for my regular drill, but it was very awkward, and I gave up on it and bought this. I have to say it's one of my favorite tool purchases. I've used up to 2" spade bits in it without any problem. Obviously, one can't use it a with a 4¼" hole saw - that's what the Hole Hawg is for - but neither is there any danger of its giving the user a good sock in the jaw. The trigger is convenient, and it slips off the finger very quickly if the bit catches. I find it has plenty of power. With a sharp bit, I can drill through a joist in less that ten seconds. It's easy to slip a hand behind the head and put some force on the bit. The 55º offset makes it handy for sneaking around pipes and other obstructions. Like another reviewer said, it makes judging the angle of the bit to the wood a bit tricky, but it's not for fine work after all. I've put my drill through the paces, and it's come up a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful tool
I purchased a used, Milwaukee close quarters drill motor approximately 16 years ago (I call it a right angled drill). I have found this tool to be invaluable. I am an industrial electrician, and over the years, I have done quite a bit of residential wiring. There were plenty of times, that I would run into tight spots while drilling a hole through studs in the attic, and a standard drill motor just cannot fit in these tight areas, my Milwaukee drill always pulled me through, It also has the power needed to easily drive a spade bit through two 2x4's stacked together. The only way that I would put it to rest, is to buy the same type in a cordless, and even then, I think, I will still always carry it on the job with me. After all, it came in handy as a backup when, all of my batteries died. It is a must have tool for several different construction trades as well as the weekend DIYers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee 0375-6 3/8" close quarters drill
Good 3/8" drill. Plenty of power but sometimes hard to control. The reverse switch is a small slide on the back of the tool. You need two hands to make the switch. The trigger is easy to get caught on something or to start the drill unintentionally. I would prefer a drill that stops when you let off the trigger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Medium Duty RIght Angle Drill Showdown
Milwaukee makes great tools. I did a lot of research on right angle medium duty drills and here is what I found. The Makita for slightly more money has: A more powerful 4-amp motor instead of the 3.5, while still maintaining a slightly lighter operating weight. (3.1 lbs, instead of 3.5) An LED light brightening the way that is guaranteed to last the lifetime of the tool. Variable speed of 0-2400 instead of 0-1300. Also the Makita has a speed-limiting dial to prevent over tightening of fasteners. Also the Makita has only a 2 5/8" head height instead of 4 1/2" for right angle drilling when working deeper than the first few inches of your project. For close to the edge work, the Milwaukee has a small head height, but if you need to go deeper into the project beyond a few inches, the angled body creates a 4 1/2" height, and that is for making 55 degree angle applications, if you need to make a 90 degree hole, you have to tilt the body, making the overall head height out of control. Look at the picture to see what I mean. For making joist holes in 2x10s this is not a problem because their is plenty of clearance, but if you are making cabinetry, and for example want to secure drawer guides in drawer openings, that are closed panels, the Milwaukee will not get the job done.
I went into the local home center, and got my hands on the Milwaukee close quarters drill. Please understand I am crazy about Milwaukee tools, but ! Holding onto this drill is strange. The only way I can relate to it is to say, think of holding onto a 1.5 litre bottle of wine. You know the kind that quickly mushrooms out at the neck. Your little finger, second, and third fingers are holding onto a large body, while your index finger and thumb are wrapped around the neck. Now imagine trying to force the neck of the bottle into something. Albeit, the Milwaukee has a mushroomed head, it is a tiny head nonetheless. Difficult to put into words. Go into your local home center and pick one up. You instantly will know what I mean. In a few words, it is uncomfortable. I don't know what Milwaukee was thinking with this one. For a little more money, get the Makita DA3010F 3/8" Angle Drill with L.E.D. Light.

Two other mentionables for competition are the Porter Cable air driven, and the Dewalt DW160. The Porter Cable air driven comes in at half the price and has a keyless chuck. It does reverse as well. The one drawback is that you don't get the degree of torque out of small air driven tools (monster impact guns excluded), and you need to have air. Lugging the compressor for a big job is not a problem, but for those small adjustments, it can be a nuisance.
The Dewalt DW160 3/8" drill has an oversized paddle switch, according to the manufacturer. Reviews were pretty emphatic about false start problems while changing bits. Also it does not have variable speed, nor does it reverse.
It is rare that you can narrow a tool choice down to yeah this, and boo that. If I had to chose just one, and I did, it would be the Makita. More power, greater speed range, least amount of overall head height in the greatest range of applications, and that lifetime LED light to constantly shine the way. They call it the new Eluminate line of tools. I know that if I get in a situation of needing the 55-degree angle, I will wish I had the Milwaukee. Additionally, I know I have a hankering for the Porter Cable air driven at those times when I have air. For the price, I might wind up with one of those also. The Dewalt, is an inexpensive drill that I know I would be cussing at, every time I needed to reverse out a screw, since it doesn't have reversing capabilities, and it doesn't have variable speed, so it will strip out the screw heads as well. Enough said: I like the first three very much. I have learned that if you go for a little more on the price, you often get a tool that is a lot more in the long run. Hope this was helpful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Light duty
I bought one of these to drill holes in joists, it lasted for 5 holes before the angle drive stripped out. Returned for a 1/2 in. which works fine. I'd recommend going for a Hole Hawg to start with if you plan on using it for anything but small holes... ... Read more

The Milwaukee Body Grip orbital jig saw is a workhorse worthy of any workshop. Powered by a 6.2 amp motor, the saw muscles its way through a wide variety of materials with ease. The Body Grip features a 1-inch blade stroke with four-position orbital action for aggressive cutting. Electronic speed control helps the saw maintain its blade speed throughout a cut, with eight overall settings and a range of 500 to 3,000 spm. Even with all that power, the Body Grip is a surprisingly agile performer. An antisplinter device helps to stabilize the work piece and reduce splintering. A shoe cover protects the work piece surface from marring and scratching. A vibration-dampening mechanism permits smoother overall operation, though the saw still does run louder than its less powerful peers. Angle cuts and bevels are quick and easy, too, thanks to a keyless 45-degree shoe angle adjustment. A transparent blade cover improves dust extraction. Debris is blown ahead of the cut for improved visibility, and a built-in manifold is provided for vacuum-assisted dust collection. --Carl Thress ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Things to consider
I recently purchased this jigsaw and have used it a few times. Here are a few things I've noticed in this short time:
On the plus side, I like how it fits in my hand, barrel grip saws just feel better to me than top grips. It's got plenty of power, and with the variable speed, you can dial in whatever you need. It cuts beautifully and leaves smooth edges, but that could also be that I only use Bosch blades.
While it is a bit heavy, I find this to be advantageous to staying online and reduce vibration. The plastic foot cover allows to to glide nicely as well.

On the minus side, there are a couple of safety concerns I'd like to mention. First and foremost, the switch to turn it on, while somewhat protected by the upper knob, pushes in for ON and pulls out for OFF. This occurs to me as easy to accidentally bump on and a little trickier to turn off quickly if needed. I'm a bit surprised that is configured this way as every other tool I've seen is designed to turn off if bumped, not on.
Second is in regards to the quick change blade system. While certainly a super idea and WAAAY faster than any other jigsaw I've used, I've noticed that after only being used a few times, the blade retaining sleeve, which should rotate back 90 degrees to completely lock the blade in, only rotates back about 20 degrees barely doing the job. As I previously mentioned, I use Bosch blades which are a bit thicker than the Milwaukee ones, but even with those it only closes about 40 degrees now. I've blown it out with compressed air in case there was sawdust in there, but that had no effect.

Against my better judgement(needed to finish the project that day), I've used it in this condition and haven't had any problems though I plan on contacting Milwaukee about this.

The last thing on the minus side is that the bevel adjuster lever is really easy to bump loose and thus inadvertantly slanting the blade over. Alas, I know this from experience. Now that I'm aware that this can happen, I'll have to pay more attention to that setting.

All that being said, I really do like this saw. It's SOOOO much nicer than my DeWalt cordless jigsaw. Once the blade retention sleeve issue is worked out I'll feel fully confident and won't have any worries, but I'll always keep an eye on the ON switch and bevel adjust lever from now on!

3-0 out of 5 stars Loud and powerful!
Being a big Milwaukee fan I was disappointed to send this one back. It's a good saw but Milwaukee could have done a better job refining this tool. First of all, the plastic barrel grip housing was rather slippery to grasp and the power switch takes some effort to reach. I guess they tried to make this saw ambidextrous for all to use comfortably. If this was the case, a spring loaded safety switch would have been nice for those unexpected emergencies. The plastic shoe bevel lever scraped my fingers each time I picked up this tool. Sufficient space should have been provided between the lever and the housing or the lever could have been shortened. However, the tool-less bevel adjustment did work well. The ninety and forty-five degree detents were right on with the blade.

What this saw doesn't lack is power...and lots of it!!! Unfortunately, along with good power the saw emits an unbearable loud high pitch whine that takes getting use to. At low speeds, noise and vibration was minimal but highly noticeable as I bumped up the dial. As a compromise, for most woodworkers we normally don't operate at peak level anyway.

This unit did come with a big sturdy plastic case with metal latches, the best I have seen since most manufacturers converted over from metal to cheap plastic. Lots of room for storage too.

All and all, with the minor shortcomings this is a good saw. If you want lots of power but don't mind the noise this is the saw for you!...

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Tool from Milwaukee
I was going to purchase the Bosch A584AVSK, but didn't like the allen wrench on the handle. ... I'm a weekend carpenter, but I learned to buy quality tools.

This is an excellent designed tool, although heavy compared to others. The barrel design gives you total control with easy thumb action for the power switch. The speed control is in the rear, by the cord, so it's not in the way. At full power, it's noisy, but I've been using half to 2/3 power, 5-6. The base tilt laver swings and has a pivot/slide/lock mechanism for 0 and 45 degree cuts. I comes with a large case with additional storage for other items.

You can't go wrong with this. ...

We found the convenient keyless chuck on this model to have an impressively tough grip, even in the toughest concrete drilling applications.

Of course, when a hammer drill is used in heavy-duty industrial situations, the brushes wear out quickly. Taking this into account, Milwaukee's Magnum drill conveniently comes with a removable brush cartridge system so you can change brushes in seconds (there are even two extra brushes stored inside). Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I have used this drill on numerous occations and have yet to be discoraged with it's preformance. It is a small yet sturdy drill for: wood, brick, block, and metal. My employer supplies this drill to my coworkers also. I would buy this drill for at home use due to it's many applications.

2-0 out of 5 stars What was I thinking?
I am a DIYer out of the home that needed a hammerdrill for projects in my basement and brick exterior. I bought this as I thought Milwaukee was "THE" tool company. My friend was helping with some tapcon anchors in the basement and was using my very expensive hammerdrill. He criticized it's lack of power and laughed a bit. Came back a few minutes later with a Dewalt hammerdrill. Big difference - much lighter, faster and it doesn;t look so archaic. I returned the milwaukee and just borrow my friends drill now. I did some checking - the Dewalt is cheaper anyways.

2-0 out of 5 stars I got the lemon and warranty service difficult
My magnum was hardly used in the 6 months that I've owned it. Hi-Low switch only drives drill when on Hi. Keyless chuck requires a gorilla to tighten bits. During light drilling of softwood, something snapped inside and the motor froze. Obviously something is critically wrong, so maybe I've got the lemon. The local authorized dealer (referred to by corporate offices) claimed to be too busy with their rental service to repair the drill, and they wanted me to pay the shipping to have it serviced at another center which had no telephone or other contact. Corporate offices were business like and rude.

5-0 out of 5 stars First choice for general-purpose drilling.
We now have three of these in the company tool-box, and they all get used on a daily basis. An exceptional combination of power and features (keyless chuck that really works, variable speed, high and low speed ranges, reverse, drill only, hammer/drill, and a detachable cord for convenience) have made these the only corded-drills we now use. The only draw-back to be found is the rather inconvenient lock-on button, which is rather difficult to access at times. Being the only negative point, we all fell that this is a small issue, indeed! Highly recommended, and once used, highly apprecciated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tough
Bulletproof drill. Have drilled hundreds of holes in concrete walls for anchors etc, Tortured the thing drilling holes into a granite wall - Bits gave up but the drill didn't. Don't hesitate on this one. Keyless chuck is a big plus, very strong grip - sometimes hard to undo. Low-end torque is not as good as I'd like, but torque is not what I bought it for. The other big plus is the Milwaukee removable/interchangeable cords. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Many Milwaukee tools are good, but maybe not this one
I had a few bad experiences with this particular tool:

1)The first one I bought was leaking oil from its gear case, so back I go to the store to exchange it for another one. I'm not too upset yet.

2)The exchanged one is not leaking oil and looks fine, until I try to use the enclosed spanner wrench to lock a grinding wheel to the spindle. It turns out that the spanner wrench does not fit the spindle, so back I go to the store to find the spanner wrench from the grinder I had just returned. The spanner wrench from the first grinder is fine so I exchange it for the defective one from the second grinder. I'm getting a little upset at this point since I effectively have had two defective units in a row.

3)That night I use the grinder to cut through two small metal pipes, with the enclosed metal-cutting 1/4" wheel. Works well, but at some point I want to change wheels and find that I can't, because the wheel and locking nut have tightened themselves so much that the awkward spanning wrench cannot loosen the nut. The wrench bends (with my hand pressure!) and at this point I am so frustrated and afraid of breaking the whole unit by using any other tool to loosen the wheel, that I return to the store a third time, this time to return the unit altogether.

I will not buy another one with this wheel locking arrangement and crappy wrench.

5-0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee Rocks...OK, it Grinds
I used my 6148-6 sander grinder with a wire brush to clean rust off a mower deck. The tool had plenty of power. Two features that I particularly liked (besides the power): the three position extra handle. At one point, it was too awkward to get at the deck with the handle to either side, but being able to work with it atop of the grinder, was great. Second, the safety paddle switch was a real plus. Having used another grinder without the switch, I used to worry about dropping the tool and have it continue to operate. The Milwaukee paddle/safety was unobtrusive and effective. Great tool. Don't forget your eye, ear and respiratory protection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Hammer - Drill is a real "ANIMAL"
I just built a home and as a professional electrician let me tell you this drill is the best.
I used to have a Craftsman and that thing broke to pieces on its
first time drilling 1/2'' spade holes through 2 x 4 , this drill the Milwaukee broke the bit first then i used it to put in some
concrete fasteners, i just had to practice because it kept breaking off the fasteners.
This is really the best drill, and also you better hold on
when using it or i can swear it'll break your wrist also
If you want power and a reliable drill get this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars great quality, features, and price
This is one of the best tools that I own. It is well-built, not too heavy, very versatile, powerful, and quiet. The hammer drill makes drilling in concrete and block very easy. I also used it with a 4 1/4 inch hole saw and it had no problem. The only thing I would change is to add a keyless chuck. I think this drill augmented with a quality lightweight cordless drill would satisfy most peoples' drilling needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars lb. for lb. $ for $ the best drill in it's class
This drill is one serious piece of equipment in terms of power
to weight ratio. Do not while drilling, under any circumstance,
engage the trigger lock or it will beat you like a rented mule.
The only real drawback for this and all Milwakee drills is the
reversing switch. It is right next to the trigger and engaged
with a light touch. I don't know how many times I've
inadvertantly done this to my great annoyance. They should
stiffen it up or put it somewhere else. This has not detered

me from buying Milwaukee drills as they beat all competors
hands down as does their whole line of equipment. I'd give this
drill 10 stars if I could, now do I get a free case for my
drill after this great review?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Monster In Disguise
This drill appears to be somewhat of a normal sized drill. Don't let that fool you. This thing is a monster in disguise. Strong, powerful, and will not quit. I normally use a 14.4 cordless drill. When the drill catches in some material, I am able to release the trigger, with no harm done. On this Milwaulkee corded model running on 110 AC I had an experience I will not forget. I was drilling into some concrete, and must have angled the bit. It caught and although I was holding it very securely it spun so hard that it broke off the depth rod. More importantly, I got a feeling of, I just got bumped by a shark. If I did not let go at the right time, it seriously would have broken my wrist. So the other reviewer who mentioned that is right on the money. I was in a local Milwaukee factory store to replace the broken handle and depth rod, and he suggested I run it at the higher speed which has less torque.
The 1/2" chuck is nice for larger bits, and the metal chuck with a KEY guarantees that you are going to get a no slip bit.
Adjustability is nice with two speeds, and hammer and non hammer options easily swithcable.
If you are drilling concrete for a living all day long, then of course the SDS drills, with bit capacity of greater than a foot, are the way to go. If you are a contractor, who occassionally drills through concrete, and want a drill that will handle most any job then this is the one to buy. This thing will bury a 1/2" x 12" long bit without slowing down.
I don't use the drill that often, but it is a blessing when I need it. Concrete with rocks in them will stop a normal drill. The tip of the bit sits on a rock and spins, the hammering percussion crushes the stone.
Milwaukee makes industrial level equipment, and this drill although a standard size bears that kind of performance. Highly recommended. I will be buying more Milwaukee equipment in the future. I thought at first that it didn't look like the best equipment, but don't let the looks fool you. Go Red-Get a Milwaukee.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid for multiple uses
i chose this drill originally for boring in concrete, which it does great. since then i have used it with 1" auger bits into wood and had to hold on for dear life! this tool has power! I have also used it to stir dry wall compound. although i dont recommend this! it spins to high rpm's for mixing and you definately run the risk of burning out a good drill. mine is still kicking and drillin', though! deducted a star for no box. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee Tools in General
I own five Milwaukee tools to date, various electric drills, sanders, and grinders. I have found them easy to repair, with parts readily available locally so that I have short downtime when repairs (mostly maintenance) need to be done. I have never had to replace any of the tools I own. Parts are never obsolete, at least in my experience. I recently replaced a variable speed switch on my electric drill which is over ten years old. It is the first repair I have had to make on the tool since I purchased it and it has had extensive use in my work as a professional. I would never think twice about purchasing another Milwaukee tool, they are worth every penny.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hoping I just got a lemon...
This drill worked great for me, until last weekend when it suddenly burst into flames. Yes, I was using it for a "tough" job -- 1" Forstner bit in hardwood -- but that's what a "heavy duty" drill is for, right? Anyway, after much argument with the local home improvement store where I bought it 6 months ago (they wanted me to send it back myself to Milwaukee for warranty) I got a replacement. I'm hoping I just got a lemon and this new one will live up to its reputation.

Also, I can say from first hand experience that this drill CAN hurt you if you don't hold the drill and the work piece very firmly. My injuries were very minor but it was a powerful lesson in how much torque this drill has.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent drill...but:...
This is a great drill. Durable, powerful and it will probably last forever. It's clearly a professional quality tool. Downside is: it's very heavy. with constant use it can tire your wrists. Word of caution. If the bit you use with this drill bites the wood too hard and gets stuck, the drill is so powerful it will very quickly jerk your wrist around and could potentially cause injury. So be aware of what you're doing. Still, it's a valuable tool and great for heavy-duty drilling needs. I'd recommend a lighter-duty drill for everyday stuff...

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible drill
OK, what do you want in a 1/2" drill? Power, balance, longevity, reputation, ease of use? This one has it all! Enough power to twist your arm off, thus it comes with a side handle. Use it if there's any chance of the bit catching, because with the torque available you may hurt yourself if the drill starts turning instead of the bit. Notice the trigger? It's a big paddle style type, making it easy to use with a multitude of hand grips. No more fumbling for the trigger. Controlling the speed is amazingly easy. You can choose any speed you want, and keep it set. An unusually smooth speed control on this tool. Just one niggle with drill- I recommend a keyed check, not the keyless. I have a keyed one on mine. You simply cannot tighten a bit enough unless you use a key, usually by going around the check in two of the three holes. Bits that slip are frustrating, and sometimes dangerous. Does anyone make better tools than Milwaukee? Not usually. They work hard, last forever, and are designed for professionals. Not a professional yourself? But the best you can afford and you won't make compromises that you may wish you hadn't. ... Read more

At about 9 pounds, this polisher is an easy-to-use weight and size, and the side handle can be moved to the left or right to accommodate each user's preference--very handy. The variable-speed trigger switch allows you to vary the rate of speed when you're polishing, slowing down or speeding up depending on the application (0 to 2,800 rpm), so it's easy to be precise. There's an easy-to-set dial speed control. The 11 amp motor never bogs down, making it easy to bear down when a deep polish is required. The glass-reinforced nylon handle is comfortable to grip and stays cool even after extended use. The spindle lock makes for convenient, quick accessory changes. We really like the detachable Quick-Lok cord, too. Cut or damage the cord, and--if you own other Milwaukee Quick-Lok tools--simply swap cords. Easy, right? (Plus, it encourages buying more Milwaukee tools--never a bad idea.) All in all, this is an easy-to-use polisher, perfect for general use. (Pros, however, might want something faster.) So whether you're working on your car, boat, RV, or tile flooring, Milwaukee's heavy-duty polisher will bring out the natural shine in no time. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For Car Grade Polishing, This is the One to Have.
I have looked all of the polishers available here at Amazon. Using something at 1750 RPMs might be ok for some finishes, but to get true high quality gloss, you need a 2400 RPM machine. Less than that, you don't bring up deep gloss. More than that, with the speed of a sander or grinder (4500=6000 RPM) will burn your finish right up.
This Milwaukee has the right speed, and it is variable if you want to go into a different level of polishing, than the automotive level. With 11 amps in the motor, you are sure to have the kind of power that will guarantee a constant speed, even when you have a 7" bonnet loaded with compound.
Another great feature is the locking collet. I had a body shop for 20 years, did a lot of high end cars, personally spent more hours on a 7" polisher than would be believable if I stated it, seriously, and locking collet would be a dream come true. Most polishers have an allen wrench based nut in the center of them, which holds the rubber backing pad to the shaft. When it is time to change a pad, it is often frustrating, because of the center nut. All you can do to change the pad is hold on to the backing pad, and use an allen wrench. That resulted in a slipping backing pad, sliding around the spindle. To have a locking collet is an engineering dream for a polisher.
Since polishers require a lot more torque, and beefy components, than a grinder, it is comforting to know that this Milwaukee has helical gearing, and all ball and roller bearings.
I have come to appreciate the heavy duty build on Milwaukee tools. Their new Lok Tor cordless drills are the highest torque in the industry. Their 11 amp sawzall is the best, and the list goes on.
I noticed a comment in the editorial review, that a pro might need more speed. NOT. This polisher covers the proper speed. A burn mark in a polished finish, looks like a raising of the material, in a little series of ridges. Another peril of too much speed is a quick burn through the finish, revealing base coats for example primer. I mention this because this is the heavy duty unit. You don't need something faster, or more powerful. You would be hard pressed to find another tool out there that does the job better. The competition, with less power, slower speeds, and that funny handle that goes over the top of the polisher is not what you want. I went into the local home center and felt that handle position just today. It is uncomfortable for polishing. You want your hand out out to one side of the head, just the way this Milwaukee is. They further enable you to choose a side, in the event that you are left handed. It gives you a wider stance with a side handle, which equals better control.
All in all this is a five star piece of equipment. It costs a little more than the competition, but the extra money is put in the tool. Highly recommended.

For day in, day out drilling and driving in wood, steel, or plastic, there might not be a better tool than Milwaukee's Magnum hole shooter. The aluminum/magnesium alloy on the gear case cuts down on the tool's weight, and the glass-reinforced nylon handle makes it a bit lighter, too--but let there be no doubts: when it comes to results, this is the same heavy-duty, ridiculously powerful, no-nonsense tool it's always been. The shooter is built with a stacked design--meaning the drill's interior parts stack on top of each other--which makes replacing parts (like a switch) much easier to do as the whole drill doesn't need to be taken apart. The handle is designed so you can hold it two ways--either pistol-grip or with the palm of your hand resting on the top back portion--making the drill an extension of your arm. As a result, you can really get behind it while still easily reaching the trigger with your fingers. And the finger slots add comfort. The shooter's top-quality chuck is a Jacobs (the best). It's a two-handed chuck, which, for the types of applications this drill is built for, is exactly what you want. The carbon brushes are also easy to access and change.

One of our favorite new features on this tool is the long and superflexible Quick-Lok cord. If the cord gets cut or damaged, you simply unplug the damaged cord and replace it with the cord from any other Quick-Lok Milwaukee tool. If you're looking for a serious, long-lasting drill, you can't go wrong here. Milwaukee's hole shooter is a very high-quality tool that will serve you for years and years and years. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The first high quality tool I ever bought.
Before I bought my magnum hole shooter I had gone through several skil and crapsman drills and saws. When I got the milwaukee My tool buying changed forever. No more junk ever! That was many moons ago and it just keeps on going and going. I will never sell my old magnum drill. They have a new one out with even more power and torque and a nice rubber grip which I'll probably buy but I'm still keeping my magnum. It runs as smooth today as it did 15 years ago. I've done everything with it from drilling wood and steel to Mixing concrete. It won't drill concrete but it will sure mix it like no other. It also mixes drywall mud very well. As others have said it is very powerful and it will hurt you if you are not careful. I got thrown off a ladder once when the bit caught and I wasn't going to let go. I thought it was going to rip my hand off. but it didn't . After that I always treated it with more respect. This unit comes with a lifetime warranty . No other manufacturer that I know of stands behind their tools like milwaukee. It's no wonder when you consider their incredible track record.

5-0 out of 5 stars As sturdy as they come
Great drill! Unquestionably Milwaukee makes the best, most durable, and comparably powerful drill motor on the market. The gear housing is metal, not plastic. The pistol grip is thick plastic, and very comfortable for larger hands. ( Its a pretty good stretch to hold this drill with your hand high on the housing while trying to drill a hole and toggle the trigger ). Speaking of the trigger, it is very sensitive & accurate, again seems to be of a better quality than most. The Quick-Loc cord is a nice feature, but really should be of the twist lock variety, particularly for working at heights. The replacement cords seem pricey at first; however, when you figure on taking the housing apart to access the set screws . . . as you normally would, it is well worth the price, particularly if on the job. What more can you say about a drill, this one is powerful, well made, should last a very long time (even under heavy use)and will drill holes with any bit you can fit in the chuck. The side handle is must with all the torque this drill has, and the threads are coarse enough that they usually don't clog with dust alone, dirt will do it though. The only drawback to this drill is its weight, which is good and bad. It is good, because of all the reasons listed above, but if you use this drill all day, you can really feel its heft ( I have the 75th Anniversary model, which is even heavier). One other comment, for 1/2" drill motors the keyed chuck makes all the difference, keyless chucks just don't hold the bits tight enough, especially when drilling in tough materials. I doubt very seriously, you can buy a better drill than this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars None Better
This drill is the best in it's class. No other matches its power for its size and weight. As others have said, watch out for its torque. Used it with a 3" Holesaw .......it fetched up and put my arm through some drywall. Built to last with easily replaceable brushes ........ a lifetime tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars The drill by which others are judged
These days when the cordless drill seems to have replaced the resevrsing 3/8" corded drill as a standard, a lot of amateurs and even pros may wonder why they need a corded drill. Well, a cordless drill is a wonderfully handy thing, particularly when working on a remote job site, but even the biggest 18 and 22 volt drills are limited in the amount of power they can generate; sometimes you need a really big, honkin' drill. Drilling heavy hardwoods, going through mild steel- these are tasks where a cordless drill starts to bog down or overheat but this 5.5 amp drill just keeps turning.

I was first introduced to the Magnum Hole Shooter by a boatbuilder who called it the single best power tool he owned. Not only was it powerful enough to drill through an oak keel or refasten a few thousand hull screws, it was built uncommonly well. You just can't destroy this drill in ordinary use, and if you do manage to break it or wear out the brushes, it's easily serviced.

Compared to the old 1/2" drills, like my 1950s vintage Thor, this drill is half the size and a quarter the weight. It's not much bigger than a decent 3/8" drill even though it has over half a horsepower. If you're doing serious work in wood or metal and can only own one drill, this should be the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars On the 7Th day God created the 1/2" Milwaukee Holeshooter
I used to work in a machine shop. I used one of these just about every day. I used it for Power Tapping. I would run this drill for hours with a 3/8 or larger tap in it, tapping Cast Iron or Boilerplate. I would use it for hours continually under super heavy loads. I abused it way beyond what anyone would ever reasonably or unreasonably use it for, and it would continually come back for more with no degradation in performance. For a 1/2 inch drill it is very compact and easy to use. It's slightly larger than most 3/8 drills and smaller than most other 1/2 drills, but outperforms all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good solid drill
I did tons of research and testing before buying this drill. I was in the market for a cordless or corded, so I looked at both. I had to drill 40-50 7/8" holes through 1/4" steel and it killed my old 3-amp Craftsman drill doing it. I then purchased a Ryobi cordless (300lb./in. torque) and drilled some of the holes. The battery typically drained after 3 holes. I used the first gear for most of the holes I tried, but when I tried to use second gear to drill them faster it smoked the motor. I returned that and then read tons of reviews on corded and cordless for about 3 weeks. The Milwaukee cordless was my favorite but I couldn't afford the $100 more. As far as corded drills go, I looked really close at the DeWalt DW236 and the older short fat-body Milwaukee cordless also. The DeWalt feels slightly better in your hand, but only if you're holding it down on the handle. If you hold them higher up, they feel about the same except the Milwaukee 0302-20 is a tad bit heavier. The DeWalt and Milwaukee both have a single sleeve, all-steel keyless chuck, but the Milwaukee 0302-20 is much better. The 0302-20 holds the spindle in place so you can just turn the chuck with a single hand, whereas the DeWalt requires that you press a button with your other hand to hold the spindle in place while you tighten or loosen the chuck. The chuck tightens down really well and will not slip. Even when the bit caught and spun the upper half of my body with it, the chuck didn't lose grip on the bit. The Milwaukee also has the removeable cord, which is nice. Now that I've used the Milwaukee, I like it even more. The way you grip it really lets you get straight pressure to whatever you're drilling. The cord is somewhat of a hassle since I typically run a grinder, welder, and drill all at the same time and have cords going everywhere. Compared to the older fat-body 5.5 amp Milwaukee corded, this one feels way better. I leaned toward the fat one for a while until I actually picked it up. Your finger gets pinched as you release the trigger on the older ones and they're just not comfortable to hold, plus they cost the same for the same gears but only a 5.5 amp motor.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine drill with plenty of power!!
This is the only corded drill I own though I have used many others. This Drill is rated at 8amps and you can really feel the power of it as I have never seen it bog down. The keyless Chuck is excellent and grips small bits very well. I was skeptical about a keyless chuck at first but after using this drill my fears were dispelled. The side handle is very versitile and sturdy providing positive control. Though the drill may at first appear large and awkward it is actually ergonimically very well designed. The drill is ment to be held between the thumb and index finger while the trigger is engaged by your other three fingers. This is a very stable and comfortable position. The only thing I thought would of been nice to see is the inclusion of user replaceable brushes. This is included on their 5.5 amp models but was removed on the new 8amp. I must also add that Amazon is selling this a bit higher than most local stores. This is not normal of Amazon so if anyone from Amazon is reading this check into it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible set of tools
This is my first set of cordless tools. They are unreal. When working on a roof or away from a power supply this is the only way to go. We used the hammer drill to drill for and set over 300 tapcons in cement block. It never slowed down except when the batteries needed changed which was not that often. The circular saw will amaze you with its power. Radio is now the first tool out of the truck. The hatchet is not as pwerful as a corded one but with the adjustable handle and the ability to make one or two cuts without having to drag out the cord more than makes up for the lesser power. I love this set and would recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems thus far....
I have had the set up for a year now.
1) I use the radio everytime I go into the shop. It has ports for CD player which I hook up my Mp3 too and sounds great, It says you can recharge your cell phone with a spare outlet but I have not tried it. I also like plug on the cord. It has a female end on it so you don't plug up a outlet when you plug in. It has a bay to accept a 18 v battery and is easily portable. Nice unit.

2) The drill is powerful. I know the dewalt fans say they like the reverse on the dewalt but I like the power and thin handle which is easier to hold for me. It also comes with a strap handle so you can really put screws in deep with out breaking your wrists. I never boggs down...pure power almost more than I need unless Im going to bulid a deck in a day .

3.) The hatchet I used when I renovated my dads bathroom and although it was portable it really seemed underpowered when put side by side to its eletrical big brother. My cousin and I tested them side by side on studs and the corded sawzall ripped through twice as many in a wall demolition. The Hatchet does do the job and I porbably would not of noticed it if my cousin didn't bring his sawzall. Also one has to take in consideration of the portability and the folding handle to get into tight places.

4.) The Circ Saw is sweet. Its the only one I own and it cuts everything from plywood sheets to finish work. I put a thin matashuta blade on it and it works great. plenty-o power with postitive stop on releasing the trigger. The saftey on the switch is awkward, but I guess it would not be "safe" if it were easy to depress. Nice unit too.

5.) The light is a light with more Volts added to the battery. I have a hitachi 9.6 volt that is relative to brightness to this one, but the clear advantage is longer battery life with the 18 volts and brightness in the tail end of battery death. This light came in handy in a black out and my wife thought I was a genius when a blackout hit us and I pulled them out.

Overall its pricey but I am really glad I made the purchase. I know the power is there when I need it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing But Heavy Duty!
I'm a believer. These tools are the standards which others are measured against... and come up short. The hammer drill has 495 in./lbs. of torque and is bulletproof. The Sawzall 'Hatchet' is an engineering marvel. The circular saw has plenty of power and a blade brake, which is very desirable. The radio rocks! A worklight and monstrous contractor's bag are just icing on the cake. Milwaukee's lifetime warranty makes this purchase a no-brainer.

2-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A DEWALT FAN, BUT DECIDED TO TRY THE MILWAUKEE BRAND- BIG MISTAKE! THE SAWZELL WORKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR OUT OF THE BOX BEFORE THE SWITCH AND BUSHINGS WENT BAD AND THEN THE METAL CHUCK ON THE DRILL IS OUT OF BALANCE AND VIBRATES. ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE CENTER WAS HRLPFUL, DEWALT MAKE A FAR SUPERIOR PRODUCT. THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING...

5-0 out of 5 stars keeps getting better
I have the Milwaukee combo 6514-25 and I love it, the only difference between the two is that this combo has a hammer drill instead of a standard drill/driver. You cant go wrong with either combo.
I did have a problem with the switch on the Hatchet, but Milwaukee fixed it superfast and shipped it overnight to me via Fedex, i have not had a problem with the hatchet since and that was about a year ago.
No matter which brand you buy theres always that risk that theres a defect. Whats sets the companies apart is how fast they will acknowledge and correct the problem. For my tool it took them less than a week. Milwaukee has great customer service. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Milwaukee's close-quarters drill is designed to make drillingin tight and hard-to-reach spaces as easy as possible. The drill has astout 3.5 amp motor that provides trigger-controlled variable speedsfrom 0 to 750 rpm. It also comes with a heavy-duty keyed chuck. Toprevent loss, a chuck key attaches to the cord via a rubber tie. Thetwo things that make this drill so effective in close-quarters work arethe 55-degree chuck angle and the molded grip situated directly behindthe chuck--two features that combine to put the user's pushing forcedirectly behind the bit. This drill comes in handy for electrical work and cabinetry.Milwaukee also makes a 3/8-inch chuck with a higher top speed.--Brian Trinen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars LOW Torque Applications ONLY
Purchased this product instead of Magnum 3300 because I only had a few hundred holes to drill for running wire and figured that afterward it would be more applicable to a variety of home rennovation uses. High torque application made mincemeat of the helical gears. If you plan to run a lot of wire or pipe, buy the right tool for the job-not, as I did, this product. I will try to find a rebuild kit for the gearing--and buy the big guy as well. I have also used the little drill to work under sinks and etc and have been pleased. I just think that there should be a warning on the outside of the box "NO LARGE DIAMETER BITS OR AUGER BITS."

1-0 out of 5 stars Close Quarter Drill not worth it!
My wife purchased a close-quarter drill as a Christmas present in 2001. One year and 3 months later, it no longer works. Apparently it can't handle 3/4 and 1 inch bits. I called Milwaukee to get service, and they tell me that I abused their heavy duty drill. I personally would not recommend this drill to any contractor that needs a tool that will last.

3-0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this drill...
I used this drill for doing the low voltage wiring for my house ... it worked great for two weekends and is now shot. I was probably using bits that were too big for the drill (5/8" and 1" auger bits), but it would bind up and (eventually) I think the gears wore out. Now it just sounds like it's ratcheting and it won't drill into anything with a bit bigger than 1/8" or so.

While it worked it was great... handy around the corners and worked like a champ. As long as you don't need something that is truly heavy duty (ignore what it says on the box), this is the drill for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I expected from Milwaukee
Switched from Porter Cable to Milwaukee recently and I am glas I did. This drill performed better than expected. I used this in floor joists with three quarted spade bits for wire and boy, did it do the job. It was very fast and was comfortable to boot. Great Job, Milwaukee, keep up the good work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fits in tight spots and is powerful and light
This drill is a great alternative to the more expensive and beefier 1/2" right angle drill from Milwaukee. The angle of the drill head to the body is not perpendicular as you can see in the picture and that makes for great comfort in using the tool plus it is very light. I had to reroute some electical wire and this is the tool to cut new holes into the wall studs. I only gave it 4 stars due to the chuck being somewhat difficult to spin by hand due to a small surface with which to grip and the fact that it didn't turn very easily. ... Read more
