SPACE SAVER

Would only make one change
This base took about 20 minutes to put together. And that includes five minutes for bandaging my finger after cutting it on one of the staples from the box. The saw fits perfectly, of course. It did require me to reposition the legs for the side extension, as the base was narrower then I originally had the legs.

One item that I like about the HTC base that this doesn't have is the ability to change the position(s) of the fixed wheels. I have a tight spot between my bench and the garage wall that I'm sliding this saw into and the positioning of the fixed wheels requires me to come in at an awkward angle and move three other tools to have enough room to swing the table around. That's why I only give it four stars. Otherwise, a top notch accessory.

Great Mobile Base!
I purchased this mobile base for my 10" left tilt Jet Cabinet saw. This base was built to be used on the Delta Unisaw so I had to make a slight modification to the extension by adding a 2" X2"x24", L-angle ,for the extension table legs to rest on. It works great! I looked at the Jet mobile base, and several other brands, but I liked the features of the Delta the best. For example, the rubber support feet are easily adjusted and provide a very stable, slip proof base. Then when you need to move the saw, simply push down on the swivel caster assembly and it lifts the cabinet saw and the extension cabinet all in one step. My cabinet saw and extension table weigh in excess of 550 pounds, but with this base it feels weightless almost. Also there are no lock screws to loosen and tighten like on many other types. I also liked the rectangular extension better than the "T" extension found on the Jet. Assembly was simple due to well written instructions. It only took a few minutes to assemble. Everything aligned and fit perfectly. I couldn't be more pleased. Also Delta gives you a two year warranty, but I don't think I'll need it. This is a well made, heavy gauge, piece of equipment. I really like it. Happy sawdustmaking!!

A must have for Delta Cabinet Saws
It was a breeze to put together. Took maybe an hour of my time to assemble it, detach the MDF table from by saw and re-attach the MDF table after the saw cabinet was in place on the mobile base. Very solid welded construction. In my basement shop, it allows me to locate my 36-955 Unisaw anywhere I need to, and in the tight space I work, that's a huge plus.

If your saw is already assembled, you'll need to detach the MDF extension table and steel legs from the saw cabinet before you try to get the saw onto the mobile base. This isn't a big deal at all. Of course, have someone with you to lift the saw cabinet onto the base. There might be ways to prop up the cabinet on slabs of wood but I wouldn't risk dropping your saw and breaking the castings in the cabinet. Just get a strong body to help you.

The saw fit perfectly in the assembly. The base was easy to level. The lever that you step on to lift one end of the base (to make it 'mobile') is easy to use. Once on all three wheels, the saw can be moved around easily by just one person. Flip the lever back and you're back on solid (immobile) ground again. One reviewer mentioned that the lever hit the lower side shelf on saws so equipped. That's true, but not an issue for me at all.

So, if you'd like to add some flexibility to your Unisaw, this is a great way to do it.

Delta Base for Craftsman 10" Table Saw - excellent
Beautifully designed, simple to set up, this mobile base is strong and maneuvers nicely. Had I known how great this is and the mobility it provides, I would have ordered it years ago.
Took less than 5 minutes to assemble, (one bolt) then was able to tilt my HEAVY saw (without assistance) to place the Delta mobile base under the feet of the table legs.
One observation... the foot pedal will stay in the "roll" position ONLY after the saw is on the base. Hard to believe how they did this and just how simple and effective this unit is.
Looked at the Rigid unit in Home Depot - very happy I decided on the Delta.

Simplicity
I bought this for my Powermatic 64A 10" Table Saw and it fits perfectly. Mine has a foot pedal instead of the bar, but I like the foot pedal ok. The 3 wheel design with a single raise/lower mechanism and outriggers to level is so simple. That's what won me over from the HTC and Powermatic mobile bases. The HTC has 2 pedals, which is unnecesary (they also look weak), and the Powermatic requires you to lock down brakes on individual wheels, and the castor could still swivel, just silly. I would highly recommend this mobile base. A small hint to install, loosen all the bolts on the table saw stand so that it can "walk", then lift each corner pulling (or pushing) the leg out (or in). I had mine installed in 5 minutes.

Excellent bargain for the money
I bought this rolling stand for my new Delta Platinum Edition Contractor's saw. Putting the thing together only took a few minutes as the product is welded together. The construction on my stand was perfect, each welded seam showed no defects. The only thing you have to do is put the wheel locking mechanism on.

The wheel set moves easily and was simple to level. I would suggest having a second person available to help lift the saw into place.

If you are planning to buy the extension kit, wait until you have both this set and the wheel set opened. You will have to use the long wheel retraction lever in order to properly operate the wheel base. It is located in the extension kit box only. ... Read more

Of all the mobile bases we've seen, this is the king. The sturdy corner brackets, wheels and casters, foot pedal, and all the hardware are supplied; you supply the hardwood. We like this deal because you make the stand to fit your needs, all the way up to 30 by 30 inches and 300 pounds of load if you build your rails of oak. In a small shop or a garage shop that has to accommodate your cars, put together a couple of these and roll your tools out of the way when you're done working. With other bases we've looked at, you have to tip up your tool and waddle carefully. With this Delta, just unlock the foot pedal, engage the third-point caster, and you're off. The wheels and casters are quality, and they move like a dream. We wouldn't limit use to just tools--this base could come in handy for moving appliances, too. Easy to assemble - a dream to use
This mobile base is easy to assemble as long as you accurately mark and drill the holes for the bolts that attach the corner pieces to the wooden frame. Assuming you have the 1.5 inch stock needed to make the side rails on hand, you can put the whole thing together in less than an hour. And when you're done, you have a mobile base that is the equal, in ease of use, to anything I have seen on the market. I especially like the foot operated third wheel, that easily engages by simply stepping on the lever mechanism, and disengages by lifting up on the lever with your foot. Nothing could be easier! And the base moves smoothly over the floor on three wheels rather than having to lift one side and push your tool on two wheels like an ungainly wheelbarrow.

Nothing to compare it to, but extremely satisfied
I purchased this mobile base based on the reviews I've obtained here at Amazon for my Jet cabinet saw. Once recieved, I can say that I'm completely pleased with my purchase.

The package is quite heavy and is about the size of a shoe box. Once removed from the package, it's fairly obvious how the pieces come together, but there's a fairly good manual for reference.

The corner plates are heavy and seem very strong. The bolts, wheels, pedal and other items also have the same "strong" appeal.

I used some scrap Oak that I had which I then glued and screwed to the thickness of 1 1/2 inches. I didn't want to puchase any new material as I had this scrap avaiable, but I assume that using a single piece of hardwood is the most desireable method for assembly. The additional material cost you'll of course have to factor into your total price of the purchase.

Once assembled and place underneath my saw, the operation of raising and lowering the unit is easy and does not require much effort at all. A foot pedal is used to raise the base which then settles the wheel on an angled flat point on the pedal. The saw then glides effortlessly across my shop floor.

When in the stationary position, I do notice that my saw is not as "grounded" as it was when I did not have a base, but I'm willing to live with this as I'm sure I can figure some ways to sure this up.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and would not hesitate to buy another for any other large shop tool.

Good choice
I am using this stand for a compound miter saw. For a light tool like this, pine rails ripped from 2x4s work just fine. If you are trying to support a major league table saw or something closer to the 300 pound limit, then follow Delta's advice and use hardwood.

I bought an HTC mobile stand for my table saw, in part to compare the two models. On design, the Delta wins. The freely rotating front caster makes the unit very maneuverable, much easier to move around the shop than the HTC. In addition, the lever in front gives a much greater range of motion, so it lifts the unit much further off the stationary feet. The two units are roughly equivalent in difficulty of assembly. Do your own measurements for the wood; the unit will take a tad more than the 1 1/2 inch square cross section recommended. I also recommend drilling the bolt holes with a drill press if at all possible. I don't own a drill press, so I couldn't get the holes drilled perfectly square, and the unit looks like it was assembled by a drunken sailor. It works great, but I can't really blame Delta for the appearance.

One downside to the Delta is the need for the hardwood rails for heavier equipment. If you don't have a lot of scrap hardwood lying around, you should include the price of the wood in your price comparison. You should also have access to a planer and joiner to square up the wood, something that wasn't necessary with the pine.

Great!
I put this on my old Craftsman 10" table saw. Maybe it weighs 150 lbs. It was a great solution and better alternative to dragging the table saw around my shop(garage). I did not have any 1 1/2" scrap around. I went to Home Depot and bought a piece of 2x4 deck wood (pressure treated green) out of their scrap bin for 51 cents. I ripped it to 1 1/2" and cut to size. The instructions were a little fuzzy, LITERALLY, but easily understood. I also do not have a drill press but free handed the holes just fine. It took about 2 hours to assemble. I am very pleased with this item.

Excellent product. Build it my way for heavy duty use!
I purchased Delta's Universal Mobil Base from Amazon for a large router table/cabinet weighing over 300 pounds I recently built. I'm very familiar with this product since I've sold many of them for $59.95 plus tax where I previously worked. You won't find a better deal then Amazon anywhere.

I gave Delta's product five stars because: No parts were missing; the fit/finish were perfect; the four heavy corner supports are impressive; two stationary rollers are at one end and a single heavy duty large foot pedal lifts the opposite end and engages the single swiveling roller which allows you to easily move your machine. A well designed product. It's built similar to Delta's welded one piece mobil base.

Delta's product is far superior to HTC's Universal Mobil Base even though you may spend a bit more to complete it if you choose my method. HTC uses two stationary rollers and two swiveling rollers attached to flimsy lifting levers which are awkward to use. I'm also not impressed with the rails used on HTC's base. It's made so you can adjust it to various sizes. If your making a large base, you must join two rails together with bolts to span the length and/or width of the base. Lots of nuts and bolts with their product.

Instead of using wood for the rails, I chose to use 1-1/2" square steel tubing with 1/4" wall thickness. This material weighs over three pounds per foot and is very strong. The cost for the steel was $25.00 and that included cutting to my specifications. I used two 44" and two 24" pieces for my base. If you need a mobil base for a heavy piece of equipment, this will suit your needs. You could use 1/8" wall if you are able to find it. I tend to over build.

I strongly recommend you read the instructions prior to doing any measuring and marking so that you totally understand how every piece fits together. The job will go much faster.

Like one of the other reviewers, I drilled my holes slightly smaller then Delta recommended. I DO NOT however recommend drilling them the exact size of the bolts (5/16") since this does not allow you any leeway. I found 3/8" perfect for my application. After marking the exact locations, use a center punch to create a starting point for your drill bit so as to prevent it from wandering on entry. Measure twice, drill once! I suggest you drill all your holes on a drill press. Clamp the steel tubing to your table to avoid any movement and guarantee the holes are aligned on both sides. Make certain to support the tubing if your drill press table is too small. Grind or file all burrs on your holes and edges before assembly.

Other than my changes, follow Delta's instructions which are well wriiten very easy to follow.

Perfect Fit
The mobile base is a perfect fit for the saw. It is easy to use and so compact that it does not get in the way when I use the saw.

One of the best accessories for your Unisaw
If you own Unisaw, or any other large heavy machine for that matter, you really should consider getting a mobile base. Delta's bases are strong, sturdy, look good and are very stable. When I upgraded to a Unisaw, I also bought the mobile base. My Unisaw actually is easier to move around than my contractors saw used to be. With a quick step on the foot lever it effortly raises onto the large swivel wheel and the Unisaw can be moved very easily. A quick flip of your foot to raise the lever and lower the saw and it rests solidly on 4 points, making it very stable. This design of mobile base make large heavy machines very easy to move around and manouver. A Great Accessory
After using my Delta saw and 30" Unifence with the 50-277 mobile base for a few months, I was concerned about having the extension table simply suspended above the floor while I moved the saw. It worked, but it was certainly not elegant. Worse, when the table legs were lifted off the floor and then thumped down when the base was lowered into position, it looked as if the resulting torque and impact eventually might do some damage.

The Delta 50-285 solved the problem beautifully. Assembly was very straightforward, taking about twenty minutes.

Now, moving the saw is easy and--most important--the entire assembly is completely supported by the steel understructure.

There is nothing fancy here; it is a marvelous low-tech answer to the challenge of having this indispensable power tool easily and securely transportable in a small shop space. ... Read more

Worth the money
I put all of my machines on mobile bases, and have had mixed luck with various manufacturers. By far my best experiences have been with the bases made for specific machines. They're a cinch to get together and start using. This one was no exception. Its very sturdy and with a good push you can jump on your DJ-20 and surf it down the driveway (just kidding). It isn't the one shown in the picture here (obviously a joiner won't fit on that) but it is better- with a foot pedal for lifting/lowering. Highly recommended.

Top Quality Base
All of my shop machines are on mobile bases. Some are home-made but the heavy pieces like the DJ20 jointer are on Delta bases. Like the other Delta bases, this is top quality. I had some initial concerns about putting this heavy jointer on a mobile base, but I am very pleased that I did. The mobile base moves the jointer very easily across some oversized garage floor expansion joints. You can't go wrong by purchasing this base.

If you have a DJ20 you need this base
I have several machines on Delta mobile bases. After discovering how well they are made and how well they work when I got my first one with my Unisaw, I don't even think twice now when I buy a new machine, I always get the Delta base to go with it. I just got a DJ20. This is one big, heavy jointer. It's about 475 lbs, about the same as a Unisaw, but this jointer is very long and possibly awkward to move. But my DJ20 is really easy to move and manouver around my small shop using this base. Not a good fit for my band saw
I bought the Delta 28-206 14" enclosed base band saw, and the Platinum accessory package which included the 50-274 mobile base. There were instructions on how to assemble the base, but not on how to attach it to my band saw. It looked like it was supposed to replace the 4" thick base that came with the saw, but it didn't fit. It was about a 1/4" to narrow for the band saw base to fit in it. I solved it by putting the regular base back on, and drilling holes in it to bolt the mobile base to the standard base. With 8 bolts holding it in place it is solid enough, but its about 4 inches higher than normal. Since I'm a tall guy its not a problem for me. The mobile base is still a great idea though. I have a standard 2 car garage for a shop, so the ability to move my stuff around is really important. This base works like a dream. I'd recommend it, just be aware you may have to do a few modifications to mount your equipment.

This mobile base does NOT FIT the new Delta 14" 28-206 BSaw
It's a great and well made base but unfortunately it does not fit (despite its description of "fits all Delta 14" bandsaws) the new Delta 28-206 bandsaw. You could make it work by bolting a square of plywood to the mobile base then attaching the saw to that. Kind of a pain.

Protecting your valuable woodworking machinery
A couple of years ago, I experienced a water line leaking above my Unisaw. By the time I discovered the leak, the cast iron table top and extension had started to rust. I immediately got a Delta Mobile Base to move the saw. I have been so pleased with the setup that I decided to purchase a mobile base for the 14" band saw. My bandsaw is an older model without the black metal casing at the bottom of the enclosed stand. Despite the smaller dimensions of my bandsaw at the bottom, the fit in the mobile base is good, although I may add some 1" lumber (thickness) around the bottom perimiter of the stand to create a tighter fit. The foot lever for elavating the base is easy to operate and when engaged, the base easily rolls on two wide wheels. When stationary, the base is very stable. Whether you need a mobile base due to limited shop space or as a means for protecting your equipment from overhead water lines, I strongly recommend this base - even for older Rockwell/Delta woodworking equipment. ... Must for small shop
Just the best device to move your equipment.
With out them I could not have the machines because there would not be enough room in my basement shop and I do not wish to heat another space.
They are over priced for what they are but to some of us a necessity. Good quality and function.

A Much Needed Accesory
Unless you have a large shop where you will never need to move your jointer, you need this item, the rack and pinion on the fence takes a bit of room.
