4-0 out of 5 stars Plasplug DWW405US Wet Saw
Reliable, easy to use, easy to clean up after use.

4-0 out of 5 stars worked for me!
This is the only tile saw I have ever used. That being said...I gotta say "so far, so good".
I thought the plastic thing would fall apart but so far:
I've laid two bathrooms in ceramic, Two full houses in slate 16" flooring tiles and our detached home office in natural saltillo tile. Not the top of the line but not bad for a $99.00 saw either! It's major water spray but so what. Love these rooms! Gotta give this saw it's due.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pass on the DWW180US
Note: This review is actually for the higher priced DWW180US. Unfortunately, I can not find a way to delete and move the review to the correct product.

Being experienced in carpentry and tile installation for 10 years, I have been exposed to the full spectrum of tool quality. This tile saw is in my opinion on the low end. I first bought this saw to tile a small bathroom for a friend. I was actually in the market for a portable tile saw, so I thought I'd give it a try. First, I found the fence unstable and easily racked, making it difficult to make square cuts. Secondly, the blade guard constantly shifted, causing the tile to get stuck in mid cut. This caused many cuts to have uneven ends. This is just not acceptable. Let me say that accuracy is not one this saw's strong points. Also, lifting the blade gaurd or even shifting it to try to correct the misalignment would result in water spraying pretty much everywhere. Ultimately, I had to return it and rent a full size wet saw to finish the job. (I was too far away from home to get mine) In this case, portability didn't win over accuracy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Plasplugs tile cutter
I don't think much of the construction of this product - after only moderate use the nylon gear in the motor gear reduction unit lost all the teeth. This may have been caused because there was only a small amount of grease in the housing. As this is an area that is not regularily serviced it may help if more lubricant was added during assembly. Seems a shame that a $149.00 tool was rendered useless by a lack of 5 cents worth of lubricant. Wouldn't recommend!

3-0 out of 5 stars Little saw that does a lot
Good tile saw for the homeowner at reasonable cost. A bit messy to use but good results. I've been using it to cut granite tiles and it worked very well. ... Read more

this is a piece of pure junk. the plastic jig (for chisels) is not rigid, and therefore flexes. The result is an angle on your chisels that is far from perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price
I received this for Christmas. I have never been able to get my planes sharp with the bench-mounted wheel I have. This works great. I sharpened a hand plane and was able to finally get the little shavings I see on woodworking shows. The unit is almost all plastic and seems prety cheaply made, it does do a pretty good job. At around $50 it is a great deal for someone that does not do a great deal of sharpening. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It cuts tile
What can you say about a tile cutting blade? It cuts tile. Worked a hell of a lot better than the used blade I replaced. The edges are much smoother. If you need finished edges you'd be better off using a new blade. Use your old blade to cut tile edges that will be covered with moudling. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty lame...
I'm giving it 3 stars, though maybe it deserves more AS LONG AS you're not going beyond ceramic cutting. A similar plasplugs saw described the product as being able to cut stone, and i was under the impression that the compact saw could do the same. I received it yesterday, started cutting today, and I went through about 7 small 1/4 inch thick stone tiles. POP! There goes the motor. I'm replacing it with a regular, more professional tile saw that can definitely go through stone reliably. I'm not bashing the saw, necessarily, just really placing emphasis on the CERAMIC cutting abilities of this saw, and that's the limit.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great solution for small/one-time jobs
Can you finish a high-quality, small job with the Plasplugs Comapct tile saw? Yes, if you are patient and careful to not abuse it.

Will you see a professional tile worker use one? No.

Limitations:

1) Water reservoir is small, heats up and dries out quickly.

2) Does not cut quickly - if you are paying someone to use it by the hour you'd be best off investing more money in a pro machine.

3) I did not experience any failures/breakdowns in making 400+ cuts in 4" limestone tiles, but this machine was not designed to last a lifetime. Don't plan on passing it to your grandchildren.

4) Real Tool Guys will make fun of your "Easy-Bake" tile saw.

4-0 out of 5 stars Plasplug model DWW405
I purchased a similar model at Home Depot for more money than the one offered by Amazon. We intended to tile 3 bathrooms: counters and two large showers, and a kitchen with four counters and backsplashes. We also used it to help tile our daughter's kitchen. We probably cut 400+ tiles before the motor started making strange noises. Before that the fence guide hold-down broke, making straight cuts more difficult but not impossible. With one shower to go, we will probably buy a new one. It's worth the price compared to renting and being able to go at your own pace.

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent value
I bought the saw for home use to tile 700 SF;
with every tile requiring cutting. The motor
burned out with only 5 tiles left to cut. This
was a three week project so it was still much
cheaper than renting a saw. I got my money's worth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little saw for the Do-It-Yourselfer
I bought this saw for my first tile job in my Kitchen. I have since used it for two other jobs and it works great. The price of this saw is just a little more than the rental cost of a saw for one job. It is easy to use and accurate. The only draw back is you can not cut as fast as you could on a larger saw. If you are only doing a few tile jobs around your home, it is great. I am still on my first blade, too. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not just for the hubby, easy to use for the gals
My husband has a whole bunch of power tools that I refuse to touch. I had a tile project in mind so I decided to add this to his big scary tool collection. Turns out I'm the one who used it and though I probablly trashed a few tiles more than the hub would've I made the coolest plaque for behind the stove. I never, ever cut tile before but I went though chair rail on a 45* angle(1 1/4 thick), decorative rope, cut beveled edges etc. Light, easy to clean and store. You have to learn to listen for a certain pitch thats made as the blade cuts the tile to get a clean cut. (Not much of a mess either)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
Used this saw to cut 3/8 inch granit tile and it worked better than i anticipated. Had no leaks as others indicated..some mess, yes, but not unusual with tile cutting. The diamond blade lasted throughout the kitchen project but did show signs of wear towards the end. . Certainly a great value!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars this is a nice saw- after some reworking
I bought this saw for a small bathroom tile job. I checked out about 6 others before buying this one. It does a great job.
My biggest complaint of the saw was the mess. Now I have done quite a bit of tiling in the past, so I know there is a lot of mess (water, slurry, etc). The problem with this saw is it leaks, A LOT. I cut one piece of 6x6 tile, and by the time the cut was through, the saw had leaked about 2/3 of the resevoir onto the ground. The blade on this saw is opposite from most tile saws, it is set up more like a table saw (blade from the bottom. It makes it a bit harder to see any cut lines, harder to see any detail cuts, etc. Since the blade comes through the bottom, the blade guard MUST be in place, or the water gets thrown everywhere. The problem with keeping the blade guard in place is that after a few cuts, the water is dirty enough that you can no longer see your cuts. The other problem, which I found on the first cut, was that all the water that the blade picks up, gets directed onto the table. The leaks are from teh water being on the table and having no way to get back into the reservoir.
I had a leak problem with the saw from the start, and not from any cutting. I ended up taking the top off the saw, and there was the problem. There are several ribs in the base of the saw that fill with water and then leak onto the ground. There is no way to drain them back to the reservoir. I spent about 45 minutes drilling holes in the base of the pockets, and caulking all the open seams between the base and the table. Once that was done, this saw performed very well.
For the money, I would probably buy this saw again. But for the same money, I am sure there is another saw out there that doesn't have the leakage problem. It's not a problem to fix the leaks, but it does take some time. If I was going to spend about $180-200 again on a tile saw, I would not expect to have to fix any problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Saw for the Money
I borrowed an MK saw from a neighbor, and found it difficult to with. The fence never kept straight and I couldn't cut large tiles. The Plasplug 7" has a much better fence, which can be easily adjusted, and will cut large tiles without any problem. The water reservoir needs to be refilled occasionally, but that's a minor inconvenience. Would highly recommend this saw for the DIY type who wants to install his/her own tile.

5-0 out of 5 stars user freindly
I do not use tile cutters as a rule unless I rent it.I figure for the price of a rental and having to use it quickly so as to save some money I opted buy one instead.Well I am impressed as I had to put up 155 8x12 tiles and 23 3x8 tiles and this saw was excellent in all aspects for the cuts.I would recommend this item to anyone. It was well worth the money.Homedepot has plenty on the shelf. A satified customer. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money for light use
For the non-contractor person doing most of their own tile work, this is a very good tool, particularly for thicker (1/2") terra cotta tiles which cut nicely (and I've never had much luck cutting the terra cottas with a score-and-crack tool). The alternative is to buy a much more expensive tile cutter or to spend a lot of time picking up a rental and returning the rental-- probably renting a cutter for a day for each room that needs to be tiled. Some of the drawbacks were listed by others; I also found the 22.5 degree mode difficult to use, and the table is plastic and tends to get scored (won't last for years and years). As a first tile cutter, or to do your own house, the price, utility, and convenience are very hard to beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Was much better than I had expected, I love it!! saved us $$
We decided to tile most of our home as my wife's sister works for a tile company and the price of tile was not a consideration. We were advised to save all of our cuts until the end and then rent a saw and do all of our cutting at once. We live about 12 miles from town and the idea of renting seemed not only expensive, but very inconvienent. We saw the Plasplugs at a home improvement center and decided to give it a try. I was very impressed right from the start. Yes, it is a little messy, (we use ours out on the patio) and yes it is sometimes hard to see your mark with the blade guard in place, but nothing that one can't get used to. I have noticed a lot of comments about the water and slurry mess, but never having used a professtional saw, I assumed that no wet saw was without some sort of mess. We have now tiled over 900 square feet of our home including building and tiling a large shower stall. We have made literally thousands of cuts in a variety of tile from 12X12 and 14X14 and 8X10. I have cut American ceramic and imported Italian tile. The saw has cut them all with no problem at all. I have made cuts around toilet flanges and cut out and inlaid fish shapes for our shower, and the saw did it all. If we had rented a saw I would still be in debt to the rental store. The convenience of having it handy when ever I needed to make a cut was fantastic. I heartily recommend it for the home improvement enthusiast, and would buy another without hesitation. We are still using the original blade and it looks like it has enough life left in it to go another couple thousand cuts. Once cleaned up, it is small and stores easily away until the next project. It is fun to use and be creative with. The instructional video that comes with it is very good and really gives you instruction on how to get the most out of your saw. As was noted before: wear eye protection, and yes, it is loud, so wear ear protection also. Have fun, tile is great!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for small jobs.
It works effectively. Good for small jobs. With alittle shopping at your local Home Depot or home warehouse and a few bucks more, one could be found that is twice the quality fairly easily.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for smaller jobs.
I tiled my whole house using only this saw to cut tile. My bathrooms are done in 12" ceramic tile. This saw worked great for these jobs. The rest of my house is done in 18" porcelain tile(much, much harder than ceramic) I went through 2 blades and wore out the seals on the motor saw shaft. The saw is almost dead(leaking water) and had me worried on the last room, but it held out.
I recommend a more heavy duty saw for porcelain and big jobs. This saw is very slow in these areas.
The positives of this saw are the price, it does work, and the blade is small enough combined with the design of the saw to make cuts out of the middle of tiles to go around walls at door entrances and obstacles. My house looks great, and we saved thousands(yes several thousands) of dollars in labor costs doing it ourselves. The video that comes with the saw is good.
5 STARS for small jobs and ceramic tile.
3 STARS for big jobs and porcelain tile. ... Read more
