5-0 out of 5 stars A superior value
This is one of the best power tools I've ever owned. I am not a professional woodworker, but depend on a router for many household, furniture, and art projects (making canvas stretchers and picture frames.) I bought it a few years ago (90th anniversary edition #90690) to build a couch in oak. This one came with 1/4 and 1/2 inch collets, an edge guide, and a metal case. The finish is silver and not the putty color on other models.

This is my third, and I am sure, my last router. Previously, I owned a7/8 hp generic brand which burned out, and a
1 1/2 hp Sears unit that wouldn't keep from wandering down in the base, and also seemed to strain in all but soft wood.

The solid construction and slight 'kick' when turning it on were immediately very pleasing. The power was appreciated on that first project whether making 'step' joints, cutting mortises (using the template guide that I bought seperately), or cleaning up less that smooth saw cuts. I built a simple table for it that is extemely useful, turning the router into a basic joiner or a milling machine for picture frames and mouldings. Even the depth guide on the base is accurate and stays true.

The torque is much higher than that of my other routers, which makes it safer and seemingly incapable of binding. The plunge base would be nice, but I can make the plunge cuts that I require by hand. Not sure I'd do this with less than 1/2 inch bits though.

This is a great tool and a superior value.

Product Description

With the Porter-Cable 7336SP polisher, fears of polishing are a thing of the past. Unlike circular buffers and lesser-quality random-orbital polishers, the 7336SP is easy to use and safe on your paint- even for the amateur. This is a dual-action polisher: it oscillates in a random, orbital fashion, preventing excessive heat buildup. This polisher will not burn your paint. The 3.7 amp motor includes a variable speed mechanism which allows you to control the speed between 2,500 OPM and 6,000 OPM. An important component of this tool, which separates Porter-Cable from most of its competition, is the removable counterweight. The counterweight is located in the rotating shaft and maintains balance while you polish. Unlike the Porter-Cable 7424 polisher, the 7336SP comes with a specially-balanced counterweight which is required as you switch to denser/larger non-OEM pads. The flexibility of the 7336SP allows for a variety of pads up to 6 ½ inches. It comes with a white polishing pad that works well at minor oxidation, swirls and light scratches. While excellent at polishing, this pad is also soft enough to be used for finishing and glazing. This tool is so easy and safe you will regret not having added it to your detailing supply box sooner. Finally, a polisher you don¿t have to fear! Please note: This unit does not include a hook and loop backing plate. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a reliable random-orbit sander capable of fast, even material removal without bogging down, this sander is a great choice. Porter-Cable's electronic, variable-speed, 3.7 amp motor provides 2,500 to 6,000 orbits per minute. The right-angled gearing system allows it to maintain consistent speeds even when you're pressing it down into the work. For a sander capable of fast material removal, this product offers relatively little vibration, and the large barrel grip allows users to hold and operate the tool without excessive hand fatigue. While this sander uses hook-and-loop paper--making it easy and reliable to change paper--an adhesive-paper pad is also available. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars porter cable 7335
this sander may not be for everyone as you can take alot of material of very quickly...but thats why i love it. it dosnt leave you with a bunch of scratches either... turn down the speed and you can do some finish sanding as well. enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars High quality tool
I have to add my 5 stars to this tool's rating. I've used it on over a dozen projects over the past year and a half and love using it. It does a terrific job regardless of what I ask it to do. Any surface I put it to, turns out like glass. One nice feature is that the handle can be mounted on either side to accommodate both lefties and righties. Also, the stick on sanding discs are very quick and easy to work with. This is a high quality tool which I plan on having in my shop many more years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Polishes nicely, too
I use this to polish my vehicles. The machine works very well, and I like the five inch model because it allows the pads that I have to overhang a little, reducing the chance of scratching any paint.

It's no surprise that Porter-Cable markets a very similar polisher as well. Great unit!

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT INVESTMENT
I found the 7335 to produce a swirl free finish and not to bog down. It also was very easy to change the self stick sanding disks instead of the hook and loop headache system. The power is a good length. The variable speed control was easy to adjust and I found the sander to be well balanced. It is definitely a pleasure to work with. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good finish on their projects. As long as Porter Cable continues in the tradition of producing great tools I will keep investing in them. This is one awesome sander. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful edge guide
This is edge guide is very accurate, it's easy to mount and use.

I originally bought the smaller cheaper guide. It was too small with only a narrow contact against the wood. It wasn't very long so it was harder for me to feel it making contact with the wood. I ended up getting this at a later time when I large project came along.

This guide is more substantial. It has larger contact surfaces, great adjustment and some weight which helps you maintain control of the router. I don't feel that it's awkward weight, just something substantial that helps control the tool.

I actually ripped a long piece or material and screwed it along the edge to increase the stability. It has holes machined in its face which allow you to do just that if you think you need it. Most cases you probably won't. I just happened to need a longer fence.

Another plus is that it will fit the new 890 series so I didn't have to get another fence when I added this router to my collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars OHIO WOODWORKER
I PURCHASE THIS GUIDE ITS DEAD ON AND IT WORKS WELL I WOULD RECOMEND IT. ITS A MUST HAVE ITEM IF YOU HAVE PC ROUTER.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up and use
I've used the edge guide numerous times in the last year and half and can honestly say it's perfect for what I want to do. Comparing the price with the Micro edge guide that's on the market makes this a real bargain! I'd recommend it to anyone. Now, if I could only get one for my Makita 3612BR.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Like It
Excellent router positioning guide. The micro adjustment feature makes lining up your rabbets, dadoes, etc. very easy. I would recommend the guide for anyone who uses their router for edge work, especially on longer pieces that are awkward on the router table. If interested, many dealers are offerring the guide with the purchase of the 693PK package of routers.

4-0 out of 5 stars OVER BUILT
Granted this thing is accurate and well made (almost bomb proof) but why so heavy and bulky.I dont think it's necessary.I love porter cable products and have used them for years. My edge guide came as a freebie with a package deal I bought.I use it and have no complaints about it other than it being just too big and heavy. If and When I buy a new edge guide it will be the porter cable model# 5043,it offers the same level of accuracy but without all the bulk. Now get out there and round something over. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Finish Nailer
I have owned this Reconditioned finishing nailer for almost a year now and have yet to encounter a single problem. Nailer came in perfect condition even though it was factory reconditioned. I have used many brands of nailers and would recommend nothing but porter cable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Purchased this product to speed up the process of building a deck. This item performed flawlessly. Easy to use, fairly light weight and drives nails without splitting the wood. Love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Air nailers can't be beat.
I have the 250Ar, but I'm sure it's similar/same. I have not tried a lot of finish nailers, but I can tell you I'm happy with this one:

-- going from 3/4 to 2.5 inches is a wide range
-- tool requires a quick look at the manual to use the first time, then easy easy easy.
-- price is right -- and probably the best you'll find anywhere.

If you do any amount of finish work, I think this tool is worth it (though, you need to have/buy a compressor to use it!). I found that you definitely need to regulate the pressure going into this tool -- my best luck has been with 90lbs (or a bit less, though that's out of spec). Drives nails VERY accurately.

Mine came with nails, so I'm pretty happy! I've bought plenty of refurbished tools... without any problems ever. I wouldn't hesitate!

5-0 out of 5 stars First time user... never again.
Just bought FN250BR, first time using a finish nailer, and I already don't know how I did without it. Easy to use, light weight, and looked brand new out of the box. One thing I was not sure of was, how would I know if I hit a stud without feeling the nail being driven in. Easy, when you hold the molding up tight to the ceiling and drive a nail the molding pulls up tighter if you hit a stud. Almost gave this product a 4 star rating, when it came there were no nails in the case, and boy I wanted shoot some nails. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable Installers kit
A nice tool which includes most everything you would want with a small router package like this. I use the offset base most, and the collet is easy to use and bits adjust easily for height. The only problem I have is that the bit chatters when used with the offset base. It has some play in it that is not a problem when using a flush trimmer bit with a bearing, but when other bits are inserted they don't cut smoothly. The other bases work very well though. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Super tool, reliable, and does a fine job
I bought the BN125A at the same time that I bought the 16 gauge. At the time I saw the price on the 18 and figured, it was a good idea to have both. At a later date, I discovered the BN200A, and that was an 18 gauge brad nailer as well, and accepted the 3/4" to 2" size nails. The BN125A accepts 5/8" to 1 1/4". For only a few dollars more, I thought I should have gotten the 200A. After all, when was I going to need a 5/8" size brad instead of a 3/4" one. Then I read a great book on cabinet making, and the author stated that he saves a lot of time, and doesn't need a million clamps, by putting a 5/8" brad in the back side of the raised panel joint between the rail and stile, then frees up his clamps for the next one. The glue sets up without movement because of the twin 5/8" brad holding them together. Most raised panels are made from 3/4" stock, so a 3/4" brad would show on the face. The brad goes in with a little countersink, so it is too large for that purpose. I guess it is a good example of, instead of saying yeah this, and boo that, say, "I like them both" Now I am starting to wonder when I will ever need an 18 gauge brad that is 2" long. Sure enough I will come across a need at some point. Maybe when I can, I will pick up one of those too.
The tool is lightweight, feels good in your hands, and is well built. Definitely does what it is supposed to do, and does it well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
Once again a PC tool that works as advertised. Easy to use right out of the box. I was using it in seconds. I would have
given it five(5) stars except the Instruction Manual has some misprints. You wont need it anyway. Be sure to call them to get the "free" bottom fire trigger. I'm not sure why they dont include it in the first place. (maybe some legal/safety reasons?)

5-0 out of 5 stars me and my buddy BRAD
i borrowed "brad" from a friend when i lived in florida. he had him in the plastic box and never took him out. he said that 'brad' was probably too small to be effective. he got it with a pancake compressor kit. after 10 minutes, i was in love! when my wife saw 'brad' she was also in love with him! i made picture frames, fixed some dressers that were coming apart. used it to hold things that i was gluing. put molding around windows, doors. installed some door casings. fixed neighbors things. i practically used it daily. i went through 5000 fastners quickly. my neighbor saw what 'brad' could do, and now he was jealous. i moved to tennessee, and he let me take 'brad' with me. 2 weeks later, he drove all the way from florida just to take 'brad' back with him. my wife and i were heartbroken. brad was practically part of the family now!

i was browsing...a couple days ago, and who was there in the air tool isle but 'brad's' twin brother. we went home together. i recommend this highly. 'brad' doesn't take much air, so even the cheap are plenty, but check the prices carefully on the compressors, and buy a porter cable.

Amazon.com Review

Imagine combining the power of a pneumatic brad nailer with the convenience of a battery-powered unit. The Porter-Cable BN200V12 cordless 18-gauge brad nailer kit offers just that kind of choice. Connect it to an external air compressor, and you have a powerful pneumatic nailer. Or attach the 12-volt battery and let the onboard compressor do the job. Either way, you'll get a reliable brad nailer capable of firing standard 3/4- to 2-inch, 18-gauge brad nails into virtually any wood surface cleanly and accurately. Versatility like this is obviously a huge boon to remodelers who'd like to get in and out of a job without having to haul out a compressor and dirty hoses. (As you would expect, the onboard compressor makes this nailer heavier and somewhat less maneuverable than standard models.) Tool-free depth adjustments are quick and precise. A quick-release nosepiece allows for fast jam clearing, and a removable rubber nose cushion prevents marring on finished surfaces. Built-in auto shutoff, automatic pressure release, and self-diagnostic features provide added convenience. --Carl Thress ... Read more

I bought the DeWalt chop saw stand and the nailer in the same order. I cut all (ALL) of the trim for my new windows in about 20 minutes and installed it with the nailer in about an hour. No kidding. No more hammer and nail set for me. I also bought 2 batteries. In hindsight, one would have done it for me. By the time the battery runs down, I need a break anyway. The only thing I can add is - get a couple of those rubber things for the end where the nail exits. It's for not marring the finish. I have found that they tend to disappear (fall off).

I agree with the previous poster. If this thig was ever stolen - I'd HAVE to buy another. It's heavy, but a compressor is heavier. I have used the Pasload too. This is much cheaper and works just as well without the need for gas cartridges.

5-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable BN200V12 Cordless Brad Nailer
Great tool for remodeling and light commercial work. Convenient to work with due to lack of hose and no need to drag compressor out of truck! If I was trimming out a whole house, I would use my regular trim nailer, but for small jobs or furniture building with biscuits, it fills the bill. Usual high quality P-C construction and it seems to drive about 4-5 sticks of nails per charge, but I did buy a second battery so as to have a fresh one ready to go. Now if only they made a similar framing nailer...

5-0 out of 5 stars Deserves an award for design!
This tool is made in Taiwan, as the other Porter cordless tools are, not in USA which is stated in the Amazon info.

This nailer fired right up & worked flawlessly, and feels lighter than it looks. It is balanced quite nicely, and if you are looking to not have to set up the ole compressor or drag a hose around this tool is great. I also bought the Porter 12V cordless drill instead of another battery, since the drill comes with 2 batteries (that's $110 in batteries included with the $139 drill!) so I now have an extra battery for either tool.

Nice product. Is a shame Porter can't make these in USA too. If Makita can do it why can't Porter & DeWalt?

5-0 out of 5 stars So convenient not having to worry about a huge compressor
This is probably one of the best things to become cordless since the drill. The innovation of the cordless drill makes it now almost unacceptable to have a corded model unless it's for powering through concrete or other hard material. The innovation of this cordless nailer means no electric cord, no stinky power cells, and best of all, no need to worry about a heavy compressor and pneumatic cords.

For me, this is super helpful for finish work on trim and molding around the house and building cabinets. Having to drag the compressor out of the storage closet was why I still used finish nails with regularity...but no more. I should have gotten this earlier along into my home renovations. Yes, it's a bit heavy but it's okay given that I have both battery and external compressor options. Yes, it can shoot only about 200-300 nails, but it's okay given that I don't come close to that amount and the charger is really quick. Most of my time is spent cutting or positioning wood to fit and I doubt I'd ever have everything cut and ready so all I do is nail all day. I've had this nailer for about a month and haven't had any problems at all.

I love this tool. Happy Father's Day to me!

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent, quality tool
Great portable air nailer. Strengths--quality, ease of use, reliable, well made. Weaknesses--none noted, may be a bit heavy on above head usage, some inconvenience when switching air on or off when using battery side. OTHER WISE...OVERALL EXCELLENT TOOL...ONE OF MY FAVORITES. ... Read more

If you ever find yourself searching for a wrench so you can change the bladeor adjust the bevel on your saw, this professional-quality wrench-free jig saw fromPorter-Cable may be the perfect tool for you. It features a reliable and strong-holdingquick-blade-change system that eliminates the need for a hex wrench. Although thepinch-and-twist mechanism takes some getting used to, it's easy to change blades onceyou have it down. The mechanism accepts only T-shank blades, but offers a reliableblade grip. The base bevel adjustment is also tool-free, and involves popping out abuilt-in crank from behind the saw, giving a few twists to loosen, and then giving a few moretwists in the opposite direction once the bevel is set.

The shoe has detents at 0, 15, 30, and 35 degrees, but you can set it anywhere in between. This jig saw has a hefty 6 amp motor with more than enough power for professionalapplications. It features a variable-speed trigger, as well as a variable-speed dial. The9543 jig saw kit also offers a dust blower to keep your line clean, along with orbitalcutting action that features varying degrees of orbit--from full for soft wood to none formetal cutting. It's clear that Porter-Cable put a lot of thought into the design of this saw.The result is a professional-quality saw that's easy to use but doesn't sacrifice anyessential features. --Brian Trinen ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good saw, typical Porter Cable quality but has a few quirks.
I've owned and used the Porter Cable 9543 for over two years now. It's built with typical Porter Cable attention to detail; fit and finish are nice; ergonomics are excellent. The adjustment screw for tilting the baseplate is an especially nice touch--you pull it out and rotate it 90 degrees. It gives you that extra leverage but in a package that, when finished adjusting, springs back into a tube that parallels the motor housing. Nice touch. The motor is suitably strong, speed control is good. Overall, nice features, good quality.

I have two gripes about the saw, however. The blower doesn't do a thing, from what I can see. Put the switch on or off, and as previous reviewers have noted, it's a sawdust storm. Since most of my work is outdoors, this isn't that big a deal, but if I was to use the saw indoors for finish work, I'd look seriously at the Bosch jigsaw which most finish carpenters seem to flock to. Another gripe is the blade change mechanism. Make no mistake, once you figure it out, it makes sense, but if you get this saw, take it home and for gosh sakes try changing the blades a few times. Big tip to save you frustration: The blade change mechanism is a simple spring loaded butterfly you press with two fingers to allow a blade to be removed or inserted. Squeeze it together and it allows you to insert or remove the blade. However: it will only work when the shaft is at the BOTTOM of its travel. If the shaft is in the upstroke position, the blade guard will block access to the butterfly. So, step one is to remember: When you need to change blades, eyeball the shaft and make sure it's at the BOTTOM of its stroke, before you unplug for the blade change. Step Two: Porter Cable has wisely installed a vertical slot the blade rides in to center the stroke. When you remove the blade, make sure you pull the blade backwards (towards the slot). Do these two steps and the blade is actually very easy to remove. Don't do them and you'll cuss this jigsaw.

It's a good saw, but one reviewer stated they use it in lieu of their circular saw sometimes for general cutting work. I work primarily in pressure treated wood and call tell you, without hesitation, that doesn't work. It's only a 6 amp saw and PT flat out requires some force to get the saw through the wood, even with new blades. A circular saw just eats it up when it comes to general sawing. Save the jigsaw for the curve cuts, only when you need it.

A good overall saw, best suited for outdoor work and one that does require some time investment in understanding it's unique blade change system.

3-0 out of 5 stars I'm a bit frustrated with this
I used to use a Bosch in a cabinet shop that I loved using.
Since I have a lot of Porter-cable tools so when PC came out with this I thought it was going to be more like a gray version of the Bosch I loved with improvements. Since everyone is in competition with each other it must be so.
When I had to change my first blade I was in horror. I think I have it down now but boy is it still a royal pain. I dread blade changes but I'm getting better at it. Maybe my fingers are just getting increadibly strong.
It has a lot of power and looks great.
Dust blower, nice feature, blows dust directly in front of the line you're trying to cut on.
If I have to start using this more I might sell it on ebay and get a new Bosch.

2-0 out of 5 stars I don't like it
Yes, it blows the dust right in your face, and mouth. It works great if you use it with your arm outstretched and don't need to look at what your cutting.
My buddy used it too, now he needs to buy new contact lenses for his eyes. Evidently he wasn't using it at his full arms length.
Buy the Bosche.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I can't believe how many complaints there are. I think this is an excellent tool by any measure - speed control, smooth operation, features, quality. I didn't experience the dust-in-face problem mentioned by some others. I find the blade very easy to change. Maybe I'm just partial to Porter Cable, but I'm sure this saw will provide reliable service for many years. I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Saw
Typical Porter Cable high quality. Plenty of power, nice cut. The negatives... The blower is a joke. PC missed the boat on that one. Blade changes are a royal pain. Getting them in isn't so bad, but try getting them out. {:-( All in all, not a bad saw. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This router is handy and powerful
I love cordless tools; this is the 15th cordless tool that I bought and it is really handy when it comes the time to trim a little edge off or drill a hole for a hinge. I am not a carpenter or any expert when it comes to woodworking, but I believe there is a purpose for each tool, and this router, after owning for just 1 week, helped me installed a pet door out of the wall on the sunroom. It chewed up the plywood fast and easy, saved me from chiseling. Good tool! Wish I had it when I installed my new door lock...

5-0 out of 5 stars great router for door hangers
i bought this router about 6 months ago based upon the reviews.it works great.if you hang doors you can carry it in the house and use it to rout out the lockset on the side of the door etc.I have used it to hang about 17 doors so far and it will usually do 7 doors without recharging the battery.I bought the 19.2 drill from porter cable, so I have 2 more batteries.I know have about 23 drills, because the cost of 2 batteries seperatly is only about 30-60 bucks less than a whole kit.

use this router with the collet for the door jigs and you will be happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars cordless router
I bought this router to perform one function. To route a 3/8 roundover on cypress table tops. I simply wanted to eliminate another power cord from being in the way or getting caught on the workbench. What I did not realize is that the router weighs a lot less than the the 690 I have been using. That was a pleasure to discover. Another thing I like is that when the battery dies, it does so quickly. Not a lot of run time at a low rpm. A great tool for my application and it was my 8th Porter Cable tool purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Door Hangers Dream
I hang custom doors for a living in the San Diego area and I tell you what. If I can go through a house, mortising latch and strike plates without dragging a cord, Im in heaven. I give it only 4 stars because it doesnt quite match up to the 2 corded PC routers I already use for other jobs and also the single battery it comes with

3-0 out of 5 stars Router itself is a 5-star but the kit is just a 3-star
This is a great router! You have no idea how much easier it is to rout without the cord. I have a Makita RF1101, Makita RP1101 and a Bosch 1619EVS. I don't use any of those now. The cordless dose all of my jobs. I am well educated in physics and wood working is my hobby. Not like most others I don't get fooled by manufactures boastings about power. Hint; always go by metric units, they can't trick you then. Most 1.5 HP routers have an impedance of 11A. That is 1320W @ 120V of power out-put. This router has a power output of 600W, what is less than half of a 1.5 HP. suppose this was a corded 120V, the empedience would be 5 Amperes. Porter-Cable claims that this router will do as a 1.5 HP. I say, PC is tiring to trick you. while this router will do most of you're fixed based routing, it's got less than half thepower of a 1.5 HP and it will not do or act as one.

I love this router, but the kit, no it just doesn't work. this kit comes with only one battery! come on Porter-Cable, do you expect people to wait an hour for charging when the battery goes down? If you don't have another PC 19.2V tool you gonna have to buy a battery. That is more $. I take one star away for this.

This is the cheapest thing PC did here, there is only the .25 inch collet. You have to buy a .5 inch...

The other thing that I find cheap is that the base is screw on. I couldn't stand it and bought a clip-on base. for these 2 I will take another star off...

If this kit came with 2 batteries, a .5 inch collet and a base with clip-on it is a defined 5 star, since it didn't I will have to rate it as a 3-star.

Nevertheless, the router itself is a 5-star. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When we bought our first router, we agonized over whether tobuy a fixed base or a plunge. Well, we went for the fixed base; infact, it was this model's predecessor, the Porter-Cable 690. But justas you'd imagine, we also ended up buying a plunge router later on. Hadthis deal been available back then, we'd have snapped it up. It offersone of the best basic fixed-base routers on the market with a secondbase that turns it into a plunge. The fixed base has P-C's neatmicrometer ring adjustment that lets you raise or lower your bit just ahairsbreadth. This set is ideal for mounting the fixed base in a routertable and lifting the body out to use in the plunge base, which, by theway, operates smoothly, has a nice chip deflector, and includes aconvenient plunge lock right next to the handle. It also features asix-position stop turret with a 2-1/2-inch plunge range. Best of all,it offers all the durability and smooth, reliable performance of theoriginal 690 model, with a little more horsepower and a new take on thedepth adjustment that prevents the motor from ever accidentally fallingout of the base. If you're looking for bells and whistles, shop up theline a little more, but if you're looking for a solid workhorse withgreat accuracy and reliability along with the plunge option, this is agreat deal. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
The Router has plenty of power. I used it on 3/4" birch plywood to cut out some cabinet door openings and it handled the task effortlessly, not even a splinter. The draw backs... the knuckle buster bit change system. I can't believe a company as good as PC can't / won't do better. Very disappointing. Invest in the D-handle base. It is by far the most convenient and SAFEST of them all. Dust flies everywhere, so have safety goggles (glasses are not enough).

3-0 out of 5 stars It's an average router in both fixed and plunge category
This was the second router(s) I bought that I mainly wanted for handheld use. The weight and power are good enough for what I wanted to do. But there are just things that I wish they could be better.
Both for the fixed and plunge base, it's very hard to center the bit when using guide bushing. The screw holes in the base plate are counter-sunk, that means there is no room to position the base plate when the screws are tightened. Later I found other router plates have flat bottom recessed screw holes that allow you to move the plate in order to center the bit. So I have to drill another set of holes that allow me to make adjustment if needed and I do. Two wrench operation is another drawback. Come on, PC, we are in the 21st century, there got to be something easier and better than that. Even the Craftsman router has spindle lock. The locking lever on the plunge base travels too long. When you lock it down, it almost hit the router body. And it does not seem to have a way to set it at another angle. Once you centered the bit at a certain depth, if you raise or lower the motor, the bit becomes off center by quite a noticeably amount that requires another adjustment. That means the plunge rods are in question.
Actually, I bought a second motor to use in the second base. All I can say about these routers are that they are reliable and does a decent job, but not top notch quality for precision work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little router at a good price.
Just like the other Porter-Cable power tools I own. Very dependable and well made. I have not had any problems with it. It runs smooth and has very little vibration compared to other brands I have used. It is light weight, versatile and easy to control. I have used it on doors, and in build cabinets. It has never let me down. I would recommend it. It is a great hand router. I say hand router because it is not designed for a table router. If you a looking for a table outer I would go with a more simple one and with more horsepower. I gave this four stars because nothing is perfect.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best of both bases, but lacking....
The first router I bought was a Ryobi R160 1 1/2 hp with 1/4" collet. I was just getting into woodworking and trying to save money. I upgraded to the 693 about six months ago and overall am pleased but there are things I would change if I could.

The first is the lack of a spindle lock requiring two wrenches. The Ryobi had that feature and I miss it. Haven't busted any knuckles, but it is more trouble to change bits.

The biggest problem is the fixed base lock. It is worthless. P-C dropped the ball on this aspect. I have read around the net and found several others voicing the same thing-some have even removed the "locking tab" using only a regular nut and bolt in it's place!

I miss the trigger power switch on the handle, but this is due to the interchanging of bases/handles.

It has good power and is reliable so far. I bought another fixed base and mounted under my table saw extension for a router table, so for the versatility of 3 routers for the relatively low cost it is alright. I would like to buy a bigger router to mount permanently in the table, and I would buy P-C again. ... Read more
