Amazon.com Review The single-phase, 3-horsepower induction motor is housed in a dust-sealed, fan-cooledenclosure, and power is transferred smoothly and efficiently via a positive-tractionthree-belt V-drive system. The motor cover has handy storage slots for your miter gaugeand table inserts, but more importantly, the inside is designed to maximize the airflow fordust collection and, in conjunction with the redesigned cabinet interior, funnel all the dustefficiently to the 4-inch dust port without a hitch. This model comes with a 50-inch commercial Biesemeyer fence system. While the basics of this popular fence design have beencopied by competing saw and fence manufacturers, there's still nothing quite like theoriginal. The Biesemeyer is made of the heaviest gauge steel we've seen on a T-squaretype fence, and the fence face itself is made of laminated 9-ply Finland birch, gluedsolidly in place--a construction method that eliminates warpage in the fence line that thebolts or screws used in competing systems can cause. The fence locks to the front guiderail using Biesemeyer's three-point locking system and automatically aligns the fenceparallel to the blade when the lever is tightened down, providing reliable accuracy everytime. --Brian Trinen Features Reviews (4)
On the other hand, the fence had a chip out of it when I recieved it. ... Well, I'm waiting for the new fence ... For that my rating goes down a star. ... All in all I would recommend buying the saw... I've had the saw over a month, and just got notified the replacement fence will be at least 2 more weeks! ... Read more

If your looking into table saws here are a few recommendations: 1.) Never buy a table saw with a motor less than 3 HP unless it is going to be carted around and used on job sites (having said that, I have seen Unisaws used as job site saws!). 3 HP may seem like overkill, but this is a safety issue more than anything else. A gentleman I knew years ago had a horrible accident when a piece of lumber he was ripping got kicked back dragging his hand through the blade... he lost half his hand and mangled his thumb beyond recognition. The cause? By his own admission, a saw that didn't have enough power to cut through a piece of lumber that was distorting as he cut it, it just kicked back and his hand was in the wrong place at the wrong time. In 30 years of woodworking I have never had wood kickback; bog yes, smoke yes, pinch the blade many times, but never kick back and I attribute this to the power of the saw. If a 3 HP motor can't cut through a piece of wood, toss it out and move on. Thickness has nothing to do with this, some lumber just has too much internal stress and as the stress is released by a cut (usually when ripping) it distorts pinching the blade or jamming the wood between the fence and the blade. FYI, I don't use a saw guard, splitter or anti-kickback pawls; we were taught how to use saws without guards and to have a good healthy respect for the inherent danger in all woodworking machinery. 2.) Buy either the Unifence or the Beisemyer fence system. I can't believe that Delta still make and ship as "standard" the old two rail fence... it was junk on the first Rockwell Unisaw I purchased 30 years ago and is more than likely still junk. I own a Unifence (and have used these many times in other shops) and I am very pleased with it's performance even after 15 years of use on my current saw. My only complaint with the Unifence is the difficulty in attaching special hold-downs or guides to it. 3.) Take the standard mitre guide that ships with the saw and throw it away. This is another "I can't believe that Delta still makes..." statements. Ditto on this and the standard fence, junk then, junk now. Invest in a decent mitre guide or buy the Delta sliding table attachment for the Unisaw (I've also reviewed this item) you'll be glad you did. I have an old Accumitre which is very good and they have improved the way the bar fits in the table saw slot (and as an added bonus, you can buy the new bar for older versions of the guide). Precision mitre guides are all about how the bar fits in the table saw slot, the head of the guide could be machined to 1000th of an inch accuracy, but it all goes out the window if the bar wiggles in the table slot. The Osborne looks interesting, but Accumitre make a material hold down which I need for some of the work I do. 4.) Get the mobile base. I've never been overly happy with the mobile base that I have for my Unisaw with a 52" Unifence, it just doesn't seem to be designed to accommodate this configuration. However, I'll admit that I have a box of saw blades and a considerable number of glue batons sitting on the lower shelf... so in many ways I've compromised the functionality of the mobile base myself. I'd still get the mobile base even if you have the luxury of a permanent location for your saw, at the very least it makes clean up around and under the saw a breeze. 5.) Hook the saw up to a dust collector and get the motor cover (don't get the motor cover without dust collection or you will run into over-heating problems). Dust collection in the cabinet keeps the mess down (well duh!) but it also keep the mess off the worm gear mechanisms used to crank the blade up, down and to angles. I'm currently trying to find a suitable dust collection mechanism for above the blade for the well being of my lungs. Nowhere near 100% of all dust travels downwards in cutting operations especially with sheet stock. Right tilt or left tilt is more-so related to the type of work you are planning to do. Mine is the right tilt version which is perfect for cutting mitres off the mitre guide positioned to the left of the saw, but tricky to rip angled cuts off the fence. This is because the second cut will always have the tip of the angle from the first cut trying to go under the fence. Ripping angles off the fence is simplified on left tilt saws; but I personally have never liked having the blade angled towards me when making mitre cuts with a mitre guide, and I've never liked using the right slot for this purpose (old dog, new trick kind of thing). There may come a day when Delta will make a saw that tilts both left and right, but until then you have to make a choice at the get go. A table saw is perhaps the most important piece of equipment in your shop so get a good one, with the Unisaw you can't go wrong. If Delta shipped the saw with a decent mitre guide this would be a 5 star rating. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review This saw only bevels to the left, however, and setting the miter gauge requires more effort than we'd like. The scale is set from behind the fence, which means you have to lean over the saw a bit to set your angle. It isn't a hassle, exactly, but it might be more effort than finish carpenters--who have to dial in exact angles all day long--would like. However, anyone would appreciate the stock stops, which extend up to 59 inches down the stand. As is standard, Delta's Sidekick has positive stops set at 0, 22-1/2, 31.62, and 45 degrees. Spinning a 10-inch blade at 5,000 rpm, the Sidekick cuts widths to 11-1/2 inches at 90 degrees and 8 inches at 45 degrees. It's a good, solid saw, all in all, especially for contractors who want big cutting capacity and who are tired of lugging heavy compound miter saws around. --Justin Paul Features Reviews (5)
The angle stop took a little getting used to (I would have been happier with a more positive stop), but now I am comfortable with it. I bought a 60 tooth blade for the finish work, and this saw makes me look like I know what I'm doing (the crown molding cheat sheet is nice working around the bay windows). I like the horizontal handle, and the scale is easy enough to read. It is not too heavy to carry outside or upstairs and is still very stable. I have been very satisfied with the Delta.
While the motors on each were powerful enough for most jobs, it was the little things about this saw that have made it appealing. The horizontal handle is nice from an ergonomic standpoint, and the base is made so that you can construct a table using standard 2x4's with little effort. The sliding mechanism is top notch. Making sure the rotation is correct on the base take a little getting used to, and when we originally got it I thought it might get loose (it's a pressure type lock as opposed to a screw lock), however it hasn't gotten loose and the instruction manual clearly explains how to tune the locking mechanism. Overall a great saw. ... Read more

Italso provides a ripping capability on either side of the blade. You can carry the saw by the handle on the upper arm making it easy to lug around as a portable saw if need be. The vibration level is quite low. I routinely have a glass of ice tea setting on my home made wooden scroll saw table and there is barely ever a ripple in my tea except when the saw speed is changed either up or down. I have cut wood from 1/8" to 1 1/2" thick with no problems. I made a jig to saw 1/2" strips of wood and it did a great job. You are not supposed to be able to do this but with this saw and Olsen blades you have a winning combination. The saw is shipped with a lot of oil or grease on the work table and blade holders and will need a bit of cleaning up before use but it is a fine tool.
As I compared this scroll saw to the others on the market I noticed that the Delta was heavier than the rest. With woodworking machines heavy is a good thing; it dampens vibration. Vibration impacts the quality of the cut. Also, I've used other Delta machines in the shop for years and know that they really stand behind thier equipment. My supposition about the weight of the saw was correct. It cuts very smoothly and doesn't vibrate as much as the other machines I have used in the past. The blades mount quickly and easily with the quick release mechanism. I also liked the segmented blower assembly. It keeps the saw dust off the work and doesn't seem to drift like others I have used. The saw is attractive to me and well built. Even the storage drawer is nicely fitted and stays closed while the machine is running. On the down side, I like a light on a scroll saw. It can be hard to see fine lines at time without extra light. The only light Delta offers for this saw, I think, is thier standard magnetic base lamp for about twenty dollars. It's a good lamp but the only place to mount the lamp where it will stay put is on the table. This can, and will get in the way. Not a big deal but it would be nice if they built in a light. The only other complaint I have about the machine is the location of the controlls. This is also just a personal preference but I like the controlls up top and in the front of the unit. The on-off switch and speed controll for this saw is under the table. Again, not a problem just a preference. ... Read more

The rip fence and fence guide came slightly damaged and I suspect it was damaged even before it left the factory - the box showed no signs of damage but the items were dented. Because the damage wasnt great enough to be worth the hassle of trying to return a 5-foot long box and then have to wait an unknown time for a replacement, I decided to keep it damaged - it leaves a bad taste though. Delta or Amazon probably knew of the damage and was betting (correctly) that it wouldnt be returned The saw functions beautifully - its sturdy and all the parts that relate to alignment can be adjusted. Couple of minor complains - I wish the blade tilt wheel would have a positive stop at its maximum tilt - as it is now, the wheel feels like its tightening rather than stopping. I also wish the power cable didnt lead out of the dusty inside of the saw - a hole through the side and a rubber grommet would solve that. If I had to do this again, I would have bought this in a store instead of by mail order so that its easier to return damage parts.
the set up was simple with the good instructions that came with it. takes about 3 hours to get it up and going. i was impressed to see that the fence was already accurately aligned. plan on buying a blade with this saw. mine came with a steel blade. basically worthless unless you have a hobby sharpening blades. [Another brand] offers some decent bargains on blades so the first blade doesnt have to break the bank, just be efficient. my biggest recommendation for this saw is its ability to be upgraded. you can add cast iron extensions, upgrade the fence, even add a sliding table. pretty flexible with a fair initial cost. my only complaint is that this saw is a right tilt. delta still doesnt offer the contractors in a left tilt. you can get it on the unisaws, but not contractors. ...
