Smooth,acuurate,nice
This saw is a very nice piece. It went together fairly easily in about 6 hours of assembly and adjustment, but well worth is. IT cuts so smooth,and the Biesmeyer is a great fence, most likely the best, the only other saw that ive used in this class is the 5 hp powermatic which is also a very nice saw but costs more and i think the delta paid a little more attention to detail. ... good saw for the money
I bought this saw and I'm glad I did. The tension holds well, and the blade stays true as long as you take your time. I'm building a bigger table for better support. It cuts through all kinds of different wood with no problem at all. I think that it has more than enough power, after all, I'm not going to be cutting railroad ties with it. If I have to cut real thick boards, or a lot of straight cuts, then I'll use either my table saw or my radial saw. Like my yougest son says, "There's always a way." My wife will use this band saw more than I will. I'm more of a jig saw man. Although there are times when only a band saw will do, and this one has never let us down. If you're looking for a good band saw to cut mainly 3/4" thick wood, one that runs ultra quiet, and fits the pocket book very well, then this is the ticket. If you're wanting to cut railroad ties, then go to a saw mill. We're both very satisfied, and she's hard to please when it comes to a band saw.

Nice little saw for money
I didn't have room for a large saw and this one does what I want. Worked fine right out of the box, no adjustments needed. Sure there are "better" large saws. I mounted it on a large block of wood for stability, and it allows me to move it around my bench, rather than bolting it down., I just used a piece of 6 x 12 doug fir about 16 inches long, you can probably find this at a construction site doing some wood shoring, I picked mine up in the Bay while fishing (always interesting things on the scum line at tide change.

nice hobby saw
I got this Delta bandsaw to cut boards for push-sticks, bird houses and hang-up crafts for my wife. It does a very good job at that although when cutting curves the blade somtimes wanders to the left side. For beginning woodworkers I would recommend this band saw. It is very safe if you know how to use it right. If you are looking to resaw boards and cut beams, dont buy it. It was not designed to do that.

problem solved
I was not pleased with the saw at first. It cut to the left (BAD)
and would not even think of resawing. I thought the setup was not right, because the top support bearing would not adjust to the 1/8 inch overlap of the blade that the instructions talked about. I contacted delta and told him of the sawing "crooked" and he immediately said "it's your blade". I explained that it came with a new blade and I also purchased an additional blade. Both cut to the left. I then explained about the support bearing. He sent me a new upper guide, said mabey it was machined wrong. He also sent me 2 DELTA blades. I put the peice on and it helped the bearing position problem, but it still sawed to the left. In flustration I tried the new DELTA blade and that fixed it. Tried the second blade he sent, it sawed perfect also. (even resawing). I'm convinced the blade was the difference. It even sounds different. Hope this helps someone.

Well worth every penny spent!
Great machine to buy when you have a small, new workshop. It eats through everything like a hot knife in butter. Don't push the materials through to fast or the blade will not cut straight. Replace the factory blade with a 3/8" blade and you will be set for life. Also, don't bother buying a $20 rip fence. I made one using a very straight 1x4 and a 1x1 nailed onto the side of it. It makes accurate rips. Don't bother buying a 14" bandsaw unless you plan to do a lot of ripping and resawing wood. Powerful enough for the occasional use. I can't say enough good things about it. Delta 10" Bandsaw - Initial Impressions
First impressions are important - The saw came assembled except for the table, legs and lamp. All of the material is reasonably high quality. This is a saw for the home or a hobbiest. It is not a production shop saw. The table is comparatively small and light. The saw comes with a miter gage but not a rip fence, an important omission. An accessory fence is available and you may as well order it now. The stand is a little alkward to assembly but the end result is sturdy and should require little attention. The blade appears easy to change and the tensioning adjustments are convenient and well thought out.

Wonderful for light duty
I've owned one of these for about a year now and love the way it works. I bought it for it's 7" clearance under the blade guide and it's relatively low cost. It was not the easiest thing to assemble as the stand is not well marked. Fortunately you only have to assemble it once. The only real drawback is the small table, but for those of us who aren't profesionals this is the perfect bandsaw.

Get what you pay for...
Used this saw for 3 years or so for light jobs, although I've resawn with it a few times. Does a good job for the $$ on light jobs -- I know it's not meant for resawing, so my expectations reflect that knowledge and I'm ok with the way it performs. I'm intending to do much more resawing in the future and am upgrading to an 18 inch, 2 hp, 220v saw but will still use this little guy for quickie cuts from time to time. My 4-star review is based on modest expectations of the tool.

No parts?
We purchased this saw 6 months ago. The little plastic gear that allows adjustment for the blade gaurd broke. We continue to receive bad news concerning the availibility of this part. Back order, after back order. Why? We need this saw. It was our fault for the breakage, I just cant believe its not available. We have ordered the gear through GRAINGER Industrial supply here in Wichita Kansas.

So far not so good
I ordered this product and while not to Amazons fault the product came defected. A leg on the base was broke off. I called Delta ( from the card in the package) and asked if they could ship a new piece, it was easy to replace. It cost a total of [price]. To my amazement they would not, I had to go through UPS, who shipped it, etc etc. After a week, I said the heck with it and filled out a return/replacement order and Amazon was great. The old has been picked up and a new one on t he way. So what would have cost [price], cost who knows how much. I guess I dont understand business. I guess I dont understand DELTA. Delta 28-278 U.S. made 14" Band Saw
This is one of the last U.S. built band saws on the market. My Delta has a superb U.S. made Marathon motor. The build quality of the saw is excellent. The leg set is made of extremely heavy gauge steel and the powder coat finish is first class. The unit was easy to assemble and calibrate. The saw runs smoothly and is well balanced. As these tools are a life time investment, I stongly encourage any one buying a band saw to buy a U.S. built Delta. The quality improvement is clear and the added cost over the life of the tool compared to the Chinese built Delta or an imported Jet simply makes the U.S. model worth the difference.

Great Saw and "Made in the USA"
I recently went to a tool show and observed this saw in operation. I bought it because the price was to good to pass up. Buying this saw can save you hundreds over the enclosed stand model. It's the same saw except the motor is 3/4 hp and mounts on top of the base. In my opinion the 4 leg base offers more stability than the enclosed stand model. I have to say that Delta pays attension to fit and finish (outstanding). The saw went together with no problems. The flywheels have 9 spokes versus 6 on the [other] model. This saw offers great value and quality.

The basic delta 14" band saw
This is the same saw as the enclosed stand model, the only differense is in the stand and that the motor is 3/4hp. The open stand introduces a little more vibration from the motor than the close one does (in the closed one the motor is isolated). The other diffrence is in the horse power departament. This one has a 3/4hp and the closed stand model is 1hp. If you aren't going to do heavy resawing on hardwoods this is the band saw for you, otherwise go with the closed stand.
Ps: don't even look at the other 14" band saws...these are copies of the delta. But the quality is not the same, everything on the deltas are beter. From bigger castings, more heavely rib wheels, better guides and bigger and stronger table trunions. ... Read more
