Amazon.com Review

Sure, you could spend a day in your shop building your own tenoning jig. Or you could spend the day making furniture with this one. Your choice. We know what we'd choose, that's for sure. Delta's universal jig fits any table saw that has a 3/8-by-3/4-inch miter slot and adapts to right- or left-tilting arbors. You'll get top-quality craftsmanship with the microfine-thread adjustment knob, allowing you to adjust width-of-cut settings to a hair for the snuggest possible tenon fit. We particularly like Delta's redesign of the handle. Most tenoning jigs we've used have one handle, sometimes up too high to offer good control. But Delta's replaced that with two, positioned at the jig's base, just where we always thought they ought to be. Another good innovation is the thumbscrew that lets you quick-release the hold-down clamp support. As for accuracy, it's hard to do better than this. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

  • Two ergonomic handles designed fro excellent operator control ensuring the smoothest cuts
  • Quick-release course thread with a push of the button for fast set up

2-0 out of 5 stars Roughly Made Jig
I bought this after using the older model and was very disappointed in the quality of the castings and the hardware. The old one, which is still available at a lower price, is a better made piece of equipment. The "deluxe" version is sloppier in its movements and reminds me of the junk we used to see out of China several years ago. Of course the simple operations required of this jig may not require it to be sophisticated but its still disapointing. I sent it back and bought the cheaper one from Delta which works great and I like the handle placement better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Acceptable value
This jig was purchased to be used on a late-model Unisaw, which it fits perfectly. It delivers very fine work. Many of these Chinese accessories have to be washed with solvent to remove the cosmolene, but that goes with the territory. The base had to be deburred, or it would scratch the table top, but I would expect to have to do that with an American-made tool nowadays. A few minor criticisms of the engineering: the jig will tilt, and as everyone has table saws with either tilting arbors or tilting tables, I question the utility of this feature, without which the tool would be much simpler---and presumably cheaper. There is a button which one pushes to disengage the female threads for the micrometer adjustment, making quick lateral movement possible. The spring which keeps the threads engaged is too weak, and using the micrometer in one direction is useless. What with inevitable backlash in such designs, I question the practicality of the micrometer. One of the handles is placed too close to the triangular knob which tightens the upper jig to the sled that rides on the saw table, making tightening clumsy. I wonder why Delta didn't just have the grand old tenoning attachment made in China, or else make this present design much simpler, and sell it for less than $60. Having said that, it does the job, rock solid, no chatter or slop. I would also very much like to see a guide rod with provision to read off the distance from the sawblade both inboard and outboard.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hardware is of poor quality
The jig itself does the job just fine. The fine tuning is acceptable. However, I was only able to make around 50-60 tenons on this jig before the set screw which holds the turn handle on gave out. It stripped entirely too easily, despite the fact that I was using the correct sized allen wrench to adjust it. The set screw often didn't stay set, so I affixed the proper sized allen wrench directly to the jig with a magnet. So, now, I'll need to drill out the hole and put in a new set screw.

The method for affixing the turn handle to the jig is sheer folly. I've checked out the Jet tenoning jig and, as of about a year ago anyway, had a much superior design. If I had it to do over again, I would pick up the Jet or Powermatic.

The deficiencies in this jig remind me of the problems with Delta's mortiser (which I thankfully steered clear of after using it in a class and noting the many problems with how Delta botched the set screw adjustments on it).

Delta makes some great table saws, but some of their other tools aren't as highly rated in my book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 34-184 Tenoning Jig
I had the identical experience as Frank McKee, bum screws in the mitre bar. Delta shipped a replacement bar with set screws separate, no questions asked. I was up and running in a week and the jig performs as advertised.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 34-184 Tenoning Jig
I bought the jig to speed the process of making tenons. For that purpose it does exactly what it says it will. The only reason I don't give it five stars is the quality of the screws used. When I went to adjust the miter bar two of the three hex screws stripped out, they are either very soft and of poor quality or put in with Loc Tight. One thing in favor of Delta. I contacted a local, California, factory service center. They have ordered the entire miter bar assembly and will send it to me to replace the current one. With the quick response for service it restores my faith in Delta. So far, I have had great luck with Delta Products... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A great design .....BUT!..........Poor Packing , MDF Junk,
I hate to talk bad about an American company But this product is Junk, South of Boarder, Bargain basement 99cent store junk, Shame on you Delta. The packing for this product,,,,,Oops....What packing........I received mine with damaged corners but the shipping box didn't show any signs of damage,,,,,,Hum. and for Delta a company the make very high quality tools, I am very sad to see a MDF ( fiber board ) table.....Not a multi lam 15 ply type board it should have been made from. But the design it self is great, it folds away with ease and has channels for the miter gauge and blade guard. Delta just got cheap with a product that isn't cheap to buy ,,,,,,,,Just be aware it's function is great the hardware is great, the table...!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Poor packaging
As stated in the previous reviews, in order to try and avoid the damage to the table with improper packaging, I ordered as well from a local woodworking store, hoping they would have better luck. Unforunately, the larger of the two tables in this item was cracked beyond repair when it arrived. The second try came with similar results. The store called Delta and insisted they send the third shipment via FEDEX, which they refused. The third attempt arrived via UPS with minor damage to the bottom and side of the table. The store offered to send it back, but since I needed it for a job and the fourth shipment could be as bad as the last three I accepted the third table.
As stated in another review, I agree, if you have Delta Unisaw, there is no need to cut off 2 1/4" from the smaller table as specified in the instructions. 1/4 to 1/2" is all you need. I mounted the brackets first, and then determined how much I needed to cut.

Overall I am happy with the product other than the shipping problems. It saves valuable shop space when folded.

2-0 out of 5 stars Delta 50-302 Outfeed Table
How can a packing box have no damage and the contents have damaged corners? Mine does and the box is in great condition.

I just got mine and it has damaged corners. Maybe the table is damaged prior to packaging? I will be able to repair but, the price is high for the quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Dented Corners Here
After seeing many reviews containing complaints of damage during delivery and quality issues, I was a bit concerned. Since I've never had a bad experience yet with Amazon.com or Delta, I took the chance. My outfeed table arrived intact with no damage at all and looks to be another quality product from Delta. Based on the extra cardboard protection I found at all four corners, maybe Delta has seen the comments and responded appropriately. With regards to the quality concerns and the use of particle board - this isn't a piece of fine furniture. It's a tool that needs to be true and stay true. When it comes right down to it, it is pretty difficult if not impossible for solid wood to compete with the deminsional stability and trueness of a thick piece of melamine covered high density particle board. $189 seems a bit pricey, but I've learned over the years, the old addage - "you get what you pay for" - rings true more often than not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Table OK, but installation is tricky
I ordered this table to go with a Unisaw left tilt, Besemeyer fence, and Excalibur sliding table. All parts arrived in good shape, and the manual is the usual Delta fare, which is to say a very good manual.

It went together OK, except for a few glitches, mostly due to my particular setup:
1) I had to remove 7 inches from the fixed and folding tables to accomodate my sliding table. It was easy enough to cut, but I sort of hated the waste.
2) The initial attachment to the table saw requires patience and a flexible body, both of which have escaped me. You have to reach inside the saw body to hold a metal plate that you then screw into place from the outside. I recommend that you have a helper on hand for this step.
3) As mentioned in other reviews, the folding portion of the table interferes with a dust collection hose. Since I don't plan to fold down the table, this wasn't a problem for me.

Unless you need the folding feature, you may be better off with building a table to the exact dimensions you need. But if space is a problem, this table will do the job well. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Tight mortise-and-tenon joinery is an irreplaceable ingredient of many woodworking projects, but cutting tenons accurately can be next to impossible without the aid of a good jig, like this one from Delta. This jig is made with the same quality of castings and precision machining found on Delta's top-of-the-line table saws, giving it the stability and accuracy we desire. We also appreciate its versatility and wide range of adjustment. While the jig is a perfect match for Delta's benchtop and contractor saws, the miter-slot bar can adjust to fit a number of other manufacturers' table saws as well. It can be used with both right- and left-tilt saws, although switching between the two setups does take some time and attention to detail. The jig can be adjusted from 90 to 45 degrees and has adjustable positive stops; of course, we recommend checking your adjustments with a good square and bevel gauge to make sure the stops are set correctly.

Getting your tenoning jig set up just right can require some patience, but once done, you'll get a big payoff in accurate tenons, and your projects will have the tightest possible joints. In our experience, few shop accessories will prove as invaluable to your woodworking as this solid tenoning jig from Delta. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 34-183 Tenoning Jig-Worth the money
I purchased this jig in November and have used it quite a bit before writing this review. At first I was apprehensive about purchasing the jig because of some of the reviews that I read. After receiving it all of my concerns have been put to bed.
It did come packed in grease but I was ready for it and would rather put up with the grease than have a rusty casting. I had to disassemble the jig and reassemble because I have a Left Tilt Unisaw. The directions were clear and I had no trouble at all making the change over.
I had no problems getting a nice square, parallel to the blade, cut when running my first scrap piece through the saw. Adjustments were easy to make and easy to repeat. The knob to make fine adjustments works great and is easy to use.
I enjoy using this jig. It is exactly what I was looking for and I haven't been disappointed with it. The only things I would like to see changed would be the scale-its not to accurate and I am not over fond of the plastic handles and lockdowns. Other than these two items, I think the jig is a great addition to my shop

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Delta Table Saws
I borrowed this jig from a friend about a week ago. I just ordered one this afternoon. Delta must have made this jig for my table saw (Delta contractors saw). It fits my saw like a glove. When my friend got it, he came over to the sign shop I work at and showed me how they packed it in oil. He said "I'll never get this all off." I laughed and said that we'd have it off in less than a minute. I poured some xylol in a metal pale and put the jig down in it for about a minute, then pulled it back out and told him to wipe it off... Clean as a whistle. There's nothing wrong with this jig. it makes perfect tenons. It's easy to use. The oil comes right off if you use the right solvent. And if you own a Delta table saw, it works great. I've been buying Delta products for five years, and they have'nt let me down yet, and I'm hard to please. I've used this jig, and I'm telling you, if you want perfect tenons, and you're tired of other mickey mouse jigs, then buy this jig. Believe me, you'll be glad you did. Of course it helps if you know how to measure.

5-0 out of 5 stars I got the "Lemon"
I Got The "Lemon"

Setup rating: ZERO
Performance rating: Five

I eagerly awaited the arrival of the jig and didn't anticipate any unusual problems other than cleaning off the trademark Delta shipping grease. Although I am patient, and tolerant of idiosyncracies, the problems I encountered far exceeded my typical resignation toward the mundane. I usually am not the guy who receives the "lemon", but I sure did this time.

This particular jig may have literally been submerged in grease and it took me nearly two hours to dig it out of every crack and corner.

The bottom of the jig (where it rides on the saw table) has geometric recesses which appear to have been machined to reduce overall weight. These machinings were never de-burred and the jig's first trip into the miter slot resulted in a lightly scratched table saw surface. An hour with the Dremel and a metal grinding attachment fixed the burrs on the base, but it still seems to ride roughly enough that I am not convinced that long-term use won't permanently damage the surface of my table saw.

Step A in the instructions went smoothly but step B brought my assembly to a grinding halt. Attempting to install the clamp assembly into the clamp arm I discovered that the threads in the clamp arm were never milled and I was turning the screw into a blank hole.

****
Three more hours of setup and modification to get it in working order and it's now ready to cut. Forty cents purchased a 3 1/2 inch bolt, nut, and washer to solve the missing thread problem, and using contact cement to attach a thin plastic sheet to the bottom of the jig solves the metal abrasion problem. Although being resourceful is perhaps the most enjoyable and fulfilling aspect of having a hobby, the amount of modification necessary to get this jig working was rather disproportionate compared to what one shoud expect from a company such as Delta.

*****

I have used the jig for cutting tenons and it works very well. The only tedious part is making repeated cuts with a piece of scrap to ensure your final cut fits perfectly in the mortise. Once that is done, all cuts are identical and will fit flawlessly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delta -183 gets a bad rap
I read the reviews and like some I was rather timid about my purchase. Grease was an issue but not a big deal. It fit my craftsman table like a glove. I didn't have a problem with parts, sanding, grinding, etc. etc. Easy to set up (after cleaning) works like a top. Very solid.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tennoning dream
This jig puts them all to shame! This jig does exactly what was promised, accurately and quickly. It is extremely easy to set up. It also keeps it's settings. I mean, this thing is right on the money. I build furniture for a living. I needed something that would be easy to use, and also quick and accurate. This beautiful jig is a breeze to use. It requires a table saw that has a T-slot in the mitre gage groove. If you have a Delta 10" table saw or larger, than you already have what is required to use this fine piece of equipment.

It comes packed in grease to avoid rust. This is easily cleaned by setting it in a bucket of mineral spirits for about one minute. Pull it out, dry it off, and you're ready to go. This has to be one of the easiest and most accurate pieces of equipment that I have ever used. If you're an experienced woodworker, you will love this jig. The new yankee was right. THIS ONE IS THE BEST. Delta out did themselves on this one. I'd buy another one in a minute. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beware, This Thing is BIG
I really didn't realize how big this thing was until I saw the boxes it came in.... This is not really a portable feeder, if you want to use it on your table saw or jointer, you'll have to disassemble it as it weighs about 150 lbs.... It has one of the widest speed ranges on the market (6.5 - 108 fpm) and the four rollers come in handy. The 1hp motor is plenty strong to climb cut. The various linkages will take some getting used to but I managed to figure out all possible combinations. It is a worthy addition to any shaper for safety's sake. Just keep in mind the size of it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting a lot of use out of this tool, but not without flaws
I am a novice woodworker and received this miter jig with my Delta CS. I've gotten a lot of use out the tool in a pretty short period of time, which is why I gave it 4 stars. However, I've had some of the same problems as others - unit is very heavy, so getting it on and off the table is a bit of pain. The weight should make for smooth travel, but I still get a fair amount of resistance - slot key is set to minimum width. BTW, first slot key I received was warped and I had to get a new one from Delta (who were very helpful). Also find you have to be careful with the stop because it moves 1/8" or more as you tighten it down. Those issues aside, the unit functions well - I've used it to crosscut plywood panels and hardwoods and have been happy with the results. This is the only sliding miter jig I've used, so I cannot judge how it compares to others.

3-0 out of 5 stars The guard is annoying and the clamp was not thought out well
I got this as a part of the kit that includes the contractors saw and beisemeyer fence. I put everything together and it works well enough, but I have these issues:

1) I ended up taking off the fence, since it is exclusive with the saw's guard. Now I just tie off the left anti-kickback pawl on the saw's gaurd and use it in place.
2) The thing is heavy and awkward. Kind of hard to store (ok, now I am just bellyaching)
3) It does not slide well. I have the track, which is adjustable, adjusted down to it's smallest size, and it still binds considerably. I have to push with a worrisome amount of pressure.

and worst:
4) The clamp is not designed well. The steel clamp is attached to the aluminum body of the jig with a steel bolt. On my pilot run, I stuck some scrap pine on the fence, and started cranking down. I had not put very much pressure on the wood at all, when the bolt had completely stripped the aluminum threads. The bolt just pulled out. Sure, I could have tightened too much, but I don't think so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for panel cutting.. Makes my miter saw obsolete!
I recently had trouble making square cuts on some bookcase sides. The stock miter gauge that came with the table saw didn't have enough contact area to get a good square cut.

I looked at the Incra miter guage at a local woodworking shop, when the clerk recommended this unit. It has given my saw new life! I recently had to make some dados on some 20" glued up panels, and this unit made it painless. Simply set the fence stop, and cut each piece... the result is perfectly bookmatched dados.

I can't imagine doing some of my recent work without this jig. As a matter of fact, my DeWalt 12" miter saw gets less use now that I can make such decent cuts with this jig!

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta Sliding Miter Jig
I purchased the Delta Sliding Miter Jig a second time (the first one was missing the formica table due to some packaging issues with Delta) and have been very satisfied. The product assembled rather easily and is very well constructed (it weighs approx. 40 lbs). After some minor adjustments to the miter guage bar I was up and running. The jig glides effortlessly over the cast iron top of my table saw. The miter angles are right on and the line cursor and angle readings make it very easy to adjust to any angle. The extension bar is very sturdy with provisions to cross-cut full length boards up to 5 feet. It also comes with a stop clamp and removable 45 degree adapter which is very useful for repeatative cuts. The work clamp is very handy and I particularly like the quick release feature. The table is plenty big enough to accomodate wide glued-up panels for trimming to size. The one drawback is that you need to remove your blade guard each time you wish to use the jig. But all things considered, this jig will definitely serve to replace my home-made panel cutter in a heartbeat! ... Read more

Installation took 15 minutes to get the piece flush with the table top as well as the sliding fence. Works great! Very sturdy...looking into attaching another extension onto this extension.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
This accessory worked that way I wanted. The price was a little high but I needed to increase my cutting capacity.

3-0 out of 5 stars Table saw extension review
Well, what can I say. If you are planning to use your saw to rip wider than 11 1/2 inches, you need to have this extension. I am impressed with how sturdy the extension is when bolted to the table. Most table extensions I have seen have been flimsy and unsafe in my opinion. This one is pretty good when you finally get it attatched. I am overall pleased with the product, however; I had a few problems installing it. Here are my gripes:

I think Delta should have used holes in the connecting side instead of slots. I had a problem lining it up with the saw table. The front edge of the extension didn't line up with my table and when the the fence was clamped down over the seam, it was not parallel to the blade. I had to file about 1/8 " off of the front inside edges of the mounting slots in order to bring the two pieces flush.

The cheap little flat sided washers provided in the hardware kit should be wider and thicker. When I tightened the bolts, the washers pressed into the slots and the extension lifted above the level of the table every single time. It took a while to get it lined up.

When I had it lined up as best as I could, the joint was still not perfectly smooth. We all know that this is important. I had to block sand the joint down with a piece of 80 grit sand paper to make the two surfaces join smoothly. Tip: If you sand lightly from front to back, you can duplicate the scratched alluminum surface that is already in the table and when you are done, it looks and feels pretty good.

Delta did an outstanding job at making the extension match the original table except for the self adhesive ruler. It looks like it came from a totally different saw and leaves a 2 inch gap between the markings. Although I always gage my fence with a tape measure, it would have looked better if it matched.

Finally I thought the price was way too high. ... Amazon was the best deal I found though, taking into consideration the free shipping.

Go ahead and buy this one. You will be able to rip a solid 19 1/2 inches using it. It took me about an hour to do all of the above things I mentioned and I ended up with a pretty nice looking saw which is also much more functional than it was when I bought it. I hope this helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine
Unlike some of the other reviews, my unit attached straightforwardly, and the fence moves smoothly from table to extension. Takes a little care to attach correctly (I used a pair of C clamps to hold it in place), and the nuts are in an awkward position when tightening (I tipped the saw over onto its side), but no big problem.

2-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't fit well.
The rip fence doesn't track well with this extension. This is a major flaw that makes the extension less useful. The cost of the extension is way out of line for the quality. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does the job
I picked up a pair of these clamps to use with my Delta 36-255L Twinlaser saw. (They are designed to work with that model, too; why Amazon's site doesn't reflect what is clearly printed on the product box is a mystery. Delta customer service directed me to this part number.)

The clamps work great. They fit the saw table well and provide plenty of hold down force for bigger pieces of stock.

The price is reasonable, too. Each of these is about half as expensive as the DeWalt accessory clamps are for their saws.

I hold back one star because there is no quick release feature. Hey, there's always some room for improvement. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does what it says it will do
The clamp goes on well and holds on to material securely. The only draw back is that the size that will fit in the miter clamp is limited by the rails securing the hold down. Really not a flaw, just an inconvenience. Amazing how Delta stuff fits so well on Delta products. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT THE BEST FIT
This 14'' table saw dust hood is not the best fit on my platinum edition contractor saw.To fit properly you will need to either make a frame out of sheet metal or plywood to fit under the saw. Then attach the hood to that. Delta does offer adaptor plates (for a charge) that ties it all in very cleanly. That's what I bought. This hood is well made and will accept any 4'' hose no problem. Amazons price on this item is awesome. I've seen it elsewhere for 3 times as much so, buy it here.I do recommend this item it's a real must for anyone concerned about collecting dust and keeping a tidy shop.It can also be fitted to fit almost any shop vac. Now get out there and collect some dust. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Fit...
I just bought a Delta TS300 10" table saw (use to be called a model 36-600, by the way) and started looking for dado sets and dado inserts. The Delta website is either perfectly useless or outright wrong when it comes to cataloging the correct accessories for each table saw. So I took my standard insert over to my local tool dealer and asked him to match it up with the correct dado insert. It took him all of 30 seconds to figure it out.
The 34-672 Dado Head Insert is the one to get for the following 10" Delta table saw models: TS300, 36-600, 34-740, and 34-670.
And don't be fooled into buying an 8" dado blade set just because the insert opening is big enough for it. If the motor is less than two horsepower (2 HP), then you should stick with a 6" dado blade set. Anything under 2 HP is considered "underpowered" for an 8" dado. Remember, you now have alot more metal spinning on that arbor, so don't burn out a $... motor just to impress your friends and neighbors.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad info on the Delta Web Site
I recently bought a Delta 36-650 10 inch table saw. After looking on the Delta web site, it listed this Dado Insert (34-672) as the correct one for this saw. Well, it was wrong. The correct dado insert for the 36-650 saw is the 34-264 (for 7-8 inch dados), there is a seperate part for 10 inch dado blades. So... I guess I'll be sending this one back... :( ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars BUY AN EXTRA POWER FEEDER BASE INSTEAD
I bought this base and never installed it. The idea of clamping a power feeder to a machine table never seemed safe to me and also you are limited to a corner mount. Instead get an extra base from Delta, part number 1347994 will get another base for $34.47. Then you just unscrew the power feeder from one base and screw it to down on another base. ... Read more
