Since it tips the scales at just 66 pounds, it’s incredible that this little unit can output 2,800 watts. Not only that, but it’s a good deal quieter than other generators in its class. The inverter system with Pulse Width Modulation delivers such a stable voltage that you can run products with built-in microcomputers or microcomputer-controlled electric tools off this generator. A nice innovation is the "Economy Control" electrical governor: It matches engine speed to the electrical demand, so if you’re camping and just running a CD player, the engine downshifts to supply that much power, again reducing noise to about 60 decibels. Plug in something else, and power increases accordingly. Another nice feature is the Oil Watch warning system that shuts the unit down before the oil is low, and won't let you restart until oil is added. Because it’s light, compact, and quieter, this is the ideal generator to keep on hand at home for power outages and a smart buy for the job site, too.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The generator specs and looks are fine, but....
No where in Amazon's presentation of this item is the fact that you will need an "isolation switch," also called a "transfer switch" at some stores. This is a [$$] item that allows you to switch off the electric power line from your utility company while you are using the generator to feed power to your home. This protects utility workers from electrocution that could occur if you backfeed electricity into the power grid. It protects your home circuits and appliances from overload when the utility power comes back on. Neither Amazon nor Yamaha mentions the fact that the Yamaha generator requires a particular locking plug for the AC output, and does not provide the NEMA number that you have to match when buying the power cord taking power out of the Yamaha to your home's electrical supply input. Yamaha's manual is ridiculously inadequate about how to set up this device, though the details for maintenance and safety seem pretty thorough. But you have to be able to use it, and using it requires a frustrating process just to know what parts to buy. And then there's the cost of an electrician to install the isolation switch. No plug-'n-play here.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lightweight, heavyweight!
When I opened the box and saw this little generator, I thought I was in trouble. But this 2800 watt Yamaha is the new inverter model. Not sure what that means, but it is very light weight but really puts out the juice. We ran 2 screwguns, 2 - 500 watt quartz lights and our radio and this Yamaha barely ran above idle. It weighs half of what our old junker weighs, runs 4 to 5 times longer on a gallon of gas and purrs quiet as a kitten. We have been using this wonderful generator for over a year with no problems at all. It's Yamaha inverter generators for our crews from now on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable, Efficient, and Economical Power Generator!
When I started construction on a cabin in the woods of northern New hampshire, I wanted to be sure I had a reliable alternative source of eleectrical power both for the construction effort and for time later when the basic power would be unavailable, as in an ice storm or other power outage. I was pleased to find this state of the art model from Yamaha because it had both an enthralling list of desireable features and was within the budgetary figure I had in mind for the generator.

That said, I have been thrilled with just how powerful, durable, reliable and economical it has been both to own and to use. Yamaha truly has created a super quiet, small, and light generator, the best of its kind. it is a 2800 watt generator that emplys inverter technology. It's well suited for equipment requiring a stable frequency and voltage. Voltage output stability very "clean", so it can power microcomputers or sophisticated electronics, a feature we appreciate as we can use it evenings to power a laptop. When power demand power is low, the generator runs at a low engine speed, then, as power demand increases, engine speed increases in a corresponding power curve. This Yahama inverter system meets my needs superbly, and I can highly recommend it. Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lil powerhouse
This inverter version of Yamaha's 1000 watt generator is great. It is super quiet, super light and seems to run forever on a tank of gas. I don't really understand this "inverter" technology, but it is obviously the future for generators. Apparently this generator has a "brain" and gears up or down to only produce the amount of power called for. It is really cool. I also have Yamaha's bigger inverter model, the 2800 watt. We had 2 screwguns, a 500 watt light and a radio on the 2800 watt and it was barely breaking a sweat. This 1000i is the little brother to that great generator. It's worth the few extra bucks it cost over the traditional 1000 watt generators. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a happy camper from tennessee
We have tried it and are extremely satisfied. We camped in the Great Smoky Mountains with no hookups and ran an air conditioner and a computer at the same time. It is quiet so you won't disturb other campers. I don't know what more you could ask for when boondocking in your camper. Oh, and by the way we received it in a week from order date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Generator, Worth Waiting For!!!
This is a great generator and I am confused why some of these other reviewers are negative simply because of delivery delays. This forum is for PRODUCT REVIEW, not "whining because my stuff was late". Yamaha had trouble keeping up with demand because this is an outstanding generator. I waited too, but this Yamaha 3000 is amazing, the boost feature will start a 12,000 BTU A/C unit on our RV. With a clean signal I can even run my computer, quiet operation so the neighbors in the park don't complain, and a powerful, compact design that is lightweight and fuel efficient. Hey, people are standing in line to buy these things, this "state of the art" powerhouse is definitely worth waiting for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delivery delayed but great generator
I also had a delivery delay that was irritating. Orginally ordered the generator on Sept. 1 at which time I was told they were not in stock but that I would go on waiting list. Several weeks later I was given a delivery date which was then postponed because of the hurricane that hit the Carolinas. Apparently the distributers sold all available stock to that area of the country which delayed previous orders. Finally received the generator in November. Now for the positive. This is a GREAT generator. It is quiet, powerful, and easy to set up and use. This is the perfect generator for residential back up power. The price was also great. Amazon price was just about $1800 with shipping cost of only $ 9. Best price I could find near my home was $2199. Ordering through Amazon saved me well over $500 when you take into account the price and no state sales tax being charged. It was definately worth the wait.

1-0 out of 5 stars I haven't tried it yet either.
I usually don't write a review until I have actualy tried something but I noticed the only other review was based Amazon's great delievery practices and had nothing to do with the product, so I thought I would tell my story. I have had this item on backorder since September. I had a estimated ship date of October 31 to November 11. On about November 5th I noticed that their web site showed it in stock and shipping within 2 to 3 days and wrote to find out why my order was not even processing yet when the web site had shown it in stock for about a week. I was just told that it would still ship within my original expected date. Never mind the fact that it had been showed in stock for about a week. So November 11 came and went and still no generator, so I wrote again to see what they had to say. This time they said they had no idea when it would be available and it was no longer showing in stock on the web site. About two days later they gave me a shipping estimate of November 17 and then on about the 15th it changed to December 16th to the 30th and now once again on the web site it is out of backorder status and listed as ships in 1-2 weeks. Also FYI for the other reviewer, Amazon has nothing to do with the fact that the delivery guy put it in your garage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scott
I have not tried it yet but all I can say is that Amazon did a great job on delivery and was placed all the way in the garage by the delivery man. Also we got a letter immediately that gave us our warranty info. and Amazon had already taken care of all the registration details. This is a wonderful company and all I can say is that I will be doing all of my christmas shopping from them. Thanks Amazon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Generator I have ever used.
Hey do you think the last guy reviewing this generator works for Honda? I find his story hard to believe. I have run Honda's, Generac's and Makita's and none of them even come close to this Yamaha. This Yamaha generator is an animal! By the way, I am NOT an employee of Yamaha.

1-0 out of 5 stars ONLY HONDA'S RUN LIKE A HONDA

5-0 out of 5 stars Top of the line!
I have 2 of these Yamaha Generators and they are the best! Dependable is the first thought that comes to mind. They start and run with one or two pulls (they have electric start, if you add a battery). They are extremely quiet and they run all day on one tank of gas. Yamaha has a reputation of making only top quality stuff, and these generators have all the bells and whistles. I was pleasently surprised at the low cost compared to other top of the line generators. If you are looking for top quality at a reasonable price, this Yamaha can't be beat! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment out of the box
I couldn't wait to give this generator a run. I received it from UPS and followed the instructions to a "T". I added the oil to the manufacture's specification and ran it for about 5 minutes. The oil light fluttered and the unit shut down. (as it is suppose to in a low oil condition). I picked the unit up to see if there was something obvious and there was engine oil all over my driveway.

I called the company I ordered it from and they said the only thing it could be was the oil sensor was possibly loose from the factory. I took the unit apart and the sensor was fine. I went ahead and changed the O ring anyway and ran it again... same problem.

I completely removed the generator and engine from the housing (a job in itself) I added more oil and started the engine to see if I could tell were the oil was comming from.

There are 7 bolts that hold the crank case together and 4 of them were not installed.

Quality control must have had the day off when this unit went through the assembly line.

I took it to the nearest Yamaha dealer for repairs (warranty) however it will be in the shop for 2 weeks to install 4 bolts.

Maybe I will change the rating on this item... If I ever get the chance to use it. For now I'm very disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
A smooth running, quiet and efficient little gem, perfect for dry camping in our Vintage Airstream trailer. I highly recommend it, as well as Amazon being the place to buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rolling black-outs... who cares!
Purrs like a kitten. Anyone looking for an emergency generator that won't drive your neighbors nuts, can't go wrong with Yamaha's EF1000. This generator is so easy to start that even my daughter who weighs in at 95lbs has no trouble firing it up.

It's designed to run appliances like TV's, lights etc., so don't expect it to run your microwave (small microwave is O.K.) or washing machine.

Grey Davis, give me your worst, I'm ready!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yamaha EF1000 Generator...Very quiet!!
I've owned several generators in the past. By far, this is the quietest, and with the automatic compression release, it is the easiest to start. It always starts on the first pull. I get about 8 hours run time from a tank, the thing is inaudible from 50 feet away, howerver, the load placed on the generator does affect the sound level a bit. The price here at Amazon is by far the best any where....WOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best 1000W generator
I've used this generator as emergency back-up,powering remote communications equipment, camping and for powering parade floats over the last 7 years. It is very rugged, easy-starting, and the lowest noise generator I have ever heard(or is that not heard?). Filling is easy, the gas gauge actually works and I typically get 6-8 hours from a fill. I leave it full with a little Sta-bil during inactivity so it's ready to go if an earthquake hits. It's reasonably light with full fuel so it's luggable by 100+ pound folks. It handles motor load, switching power supply and microwave demands easily. Connections and breakers are visible and easy to manipulate.

The exhaust is ported well to avoid fires or burns although I always place a tarp underneath on dry grass. ... Read more
