5-0 out of 5 stars Briggs and Stratton Motor and a pump with a brass head.SWEET
Forgive me for not rating this specific pressure washer but I bought one just like it. I would like to share my experience with you, hoping it will help others. I bought a Generac pressure washer with a 6 HP Briggs and Stratton Intek engine. The washer was rated at 2250 PSI and 2.2 gallons per minute. It came with an aluminum head. Note the best washers have brass heads. To make a long story short, I was pressure washing some paint off of my basement walls when the pump head developed a crack, and I lost a lot of pressure. It was my fault. The reassurances that their is a pressure release valve didn't do the trick. The problem was that I washed a few sq ft, then put down the wand, wet vac'd the water, went into the other room to dump it, then came back and picked up the wand and washed some more. After an hour of this the head went.
Lesson learned, be sure and keep the water flowing through the pump to keep it cool, while it is running, or risk losing the pump. The unit was 400 dollars new. When I contacted Generac they said, buy a new pressure washer. The head alone was over 200, and the pumps ceramic pistons or worse could be damaged as well. Depression set in. It had a two year warranty, which I was not aware of, when I winterized it and decided to deal with it next year.
Their is light shining at the end of the tunnel. Boogle.com solves all. Just type in pressure washer parts, and up came pressurewasherparts.com. On their home page they had a special on a complete replacement pump for 189 dollars(an Annovi Reverberi with a brass head, none the less.)It was less than the cost of the replacement aluminum head alone from Generac. It was rated at 2400 PSI and 2.5 gallons per minute so it was an upgrade to boot. I simply unbolted the entire pump from the briggs, and bolted on the new pump. A few tweakings to tidy up the couplers with teflon tape to prevent leaks, and I was right back in business.
Another thing worth mentioning is that I was at one time disappointed that I did not buy a washer with a Honda engine, but bought the Briggs instead. Well guess what? The Honda engines, as you can see by the reviews, are not holding up. Plastic internals. Give me the good old Briggs heavy metal, and it starts on the second pull.
One last note is that the higher pressure washers do give you more pressure, and in some specific chores that can be beneficial, but overall the benefit to more power is that the job gets done a lot faster. Once you get close to 2000 PSI you can comfortably etch your sidewalk or deck. Less than that, break out a solution of 50/50 bleach and water, and wet mop it on before starting.
With a 2000PSI+ you are etching an area about 3" wide. Holding it farther away, making it wider than that, and all you are doing is rinsing it off. With the greater pressure washers, 3500 PSI for example, you can cover a greater area with the same level of cleaning. Net result, more results in less time. Hope this was helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars I needed one of these years ago.
A great value for any home owner!!! The higher PSI and GPM, comes in handy by reducing your cleaning time to a minimum. While lesser pressure washers (<2400psi) will clean most anything you would every want, the 1808 will do it in half the time with half the effort. This unit also comes with spare o-rings in case one fails which will minimize down time searching for a replacement parts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Installation Only
I have the 1999 model of the Generac Guardian 15kw system. This one is hooked directly into my panel and I have a subpanel hooked to the transfer switch. If you think you are going to buy a whole-house generator system such as this one you had better be a licensed electrician, pull all the permits, and have an electrical inspector (and gas inspector) licensed in your jurisdiction. You also better be licensed to plumb gas lines. If you don't, you could unknowingly risk the lives of the electric company employees and blow up your house. So many do-it-yourselfers think they know how electricity works but really have no idea--when you have the licensed electrician install this unit ask him for some horror stories.

On the bright side, this is a real generator, not a joke Home Depot portable. This generator provides two legs of 120v (240v) so it can run your entire house and several 240v appliances. Mine runs all circuits, including the hot water heater, but not the electric stove or the heat pump (a heat pump consumes 5 kw already, which brings you to the next higher Generac which is excessively cost-prohibitive.)

During Hurricane Isabel we ran our entire house for 5 days and ran an extension cord to run a neighbor's refrigerator for most of that time. We had hot water and every home comfort available to us except the electric stove and heat/AC. If you can swing the installation costs of such a unit (which easily costs more than the unit itself) by all means get this unit but if you intend to install it yourself you are a fool.

For people who don't have natural gas you will need to change out the regulator. I use propane so we needed a different orifice. Another reviewer stated that he needed a separate gas meter but I've not heard anything about that from our installer when we talked about natural gas vs. propane. If have a combination regulator and gas meter then the gas company needs to visit. If you have a separate regulator then you need to tap the line for your generator and its regulator before your house's regulator. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hammerhead 2
When I check out the review on this product before I ordered I was unsure about my decision. I rolled the dice and ordered the Hammerhead 2. I am a professional contractor specializing in upper end work. We spare no salt in having the best equipment on the market. This tool has well out performed my expectation and then some. If you have ever used other brands you will know that it is easy for first time help to accidently nail on the surface instead of on the tongue. I just finished a floor with 600 feet and my new helper only had one accident. This nailer has front resting pads that set on the subfloor. This makes postioning the nailer a snap. Other nailers on the market don't have this and that is why I went with this tool. It is big but not heavy. The tool being tall keeps you from bending over so far. It comes with a case and a hammer that you will simply love. I would recommend this to anyone. The extra hundred dollars was money well worth it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Good machine
This was my first attempt at installing hardwood floors. Purchasing a nail gun was a top priority. The market is limited but the few nailers out there all come with high marks. I chose this particular model based upon the few excellent reviews on this forum and the quick change option from floor to face nailing. The gun sits easily and quickly each time. The different types of nails/staples/ cleats receive their own praise but my personal choice was the porta nail. The nail itself appears to be stronger and heavier compared to the others. Your local Home Depot carries the porta nails, but not this particular nailer. This nailer is a tough find and have not been able to find anyone that stocks it, other than Amazon. The gun has worked flawlessly, and comes in a complete package. You have to purchase other shoes to fit flooring outside 3/4 inch. Since I will only install that type it is not a big deal, as of yet. Just tapping the gun is enough, no need to slam. Works great each time and have installed about 800 sq feet without a single problem. Makes a novice like me, into a more experienced novice in short time. Great purchase and was not jumping for joy at the price. Still, I was not forced to buy it and I do believe you get what you pay for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cost less to buy this tool than to hire someone to do it.
Save yourself the cost of hiring with this tool. If you know how to cut wood and measure, this is all you need to put in wood floors. I am very impressed with the quality of the tool and ease of use. The PortaNails used for the tool are excellent specialized cleat nails specifically designed for this tool. I've heard complaints from professionals about air powered flooring nailers. But I think they are blowing air themselves. Everyone likes to defend their job. But this is a job any builder or knowledgeable homeowner can handle with this tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great floor nailer!
I bought this tool to put up 800sq feet of strip oak flooring. I'm a total novice. After putting 400sq, I must say I'm very happy with my purchase. It comes with a nice case, hammer, safety glasses and face/blind nailing attachments. And boy let me tell you, when you do a job (any job) the tools you use can make or break the project. Using this nailer has been a pure joy. Blind nailing is a no brainier. The cleat sits on the subfloor and against the tongue. A simple tap on the trigger and BAM! Only one compliant: This is big tool and will force you to face nail the last 5 rows.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT NAILER
I have been placing hard wood floors for years. This is the best nailer I've used to date. It's high in cost but you get what you pay for. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Porter-Cable's drywall sander is currently the only one of its kind. While this may have momentarily eliminated competitive pressure, Porter-Cable still put together a high-quality tool. Long enough to sand 10-foot ceilings from the ground, lightweight (8 pounds), and able to suck up the vast majority of the fine, potentially harmful dust with an attachable vacuum, this drywall sander impressed us right away. Drywall contractors all over are excited about this new tool. The 1-1/4-inch vacuum hose is 13 feet long, so a person can cover a lot of ground without having the move the vacuum. Simply put, this sander saves a tremendous amount of time (and countless muscle aches), while employing the same great sanding technology featured on other sanders made by Porter-Cable. It easily sands three times faster than hand-sanding--maybe even four times faster. And the end result is a large, smooth, uniform surface. Porter-Cable's done good with this sander--we predict everyone on the job site will agree. --Michael Shilling ... Read more

  • Sands with minimal clean up when used with vacuum for dust collection

4-0 out of 5 stars Time Saver
Real time saver for do-it-yourself drywall projects. I have done quite a few drywall projects and I always had problems with the seams, especially on the finish coat on ceilings. The Porter Cable sander works great on the ceiling seams. I used it for the first time on a major renovation on my daughter's 100 year old home and the ceiling seams are virtually invisible. My sanding time was reduced from approximately four hours to less than an hour and the results were excellent. Also, I always applied three coats of mud to accomplish perfect finish work. The Porter Cable sander reduced my mud coats from three to two coats with blemish free results. If you are a do-it-yourself'er, and if you can afford it, this product is definitely worth the investment. Also, the Porter Cable vacuum is a difinite plus.
When you use this product for the first time, it takes a little practice to get good results. Don't force the sander by using pressure, let the sander do the work. After two passes, the surface is usually smooth. You will still have to hand sand the corners, but the power sander turns this task into a joy. Also, there is very little dust to clean up after the sanding job is completed. Gone are the days of dust in my eyes, ears, mouth and nose ( in addition to all over the house ).
On the negative side, the sander is a little hard on the arms when doing ceilings ( especially 9 or 10 foot ceilings ). But this is a small price to pay for the results you get.
As stated earlier, with a little bit of practice, this sander will give you excellent results. It's fast, clean and a real time saver. The only thing that kept it from a five star rating was the arm strain when sanding ceilings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent start for product design
I have over 15 years experience with drywall, so I'm not new to this. I agonized over spending this much money on a sander for a couple years. Yes, it's been available that long. But, I'm getting older and the back and shoulders don't like hand sanding on ceilings and I have yet to perfect the "sponge" method.

Regardless, I purchased the P-C sander and a box of 150 grit pads. If I didn't like it, I could sell it on "auctions". After one large room, I was pleased. I will agree with some other reviewers that you can make plenty of swirl marks. That's the first thing I did. The second thing I did was to spend 5 minutes playing with it to figure out how NOT to make swirl marks. It really isn't that hard. It is much faster than hand sanding and virtually no dust. My customers love that part!! (I do alot of remodelling jobs). If you do a good job mudding, there should be minimal sanding to do anyway.

This sander will NOT do inside corners. Based on its design, it can't get any closer than about 3/4" to the actual corner. Know up front that you will still need to touch up the inside corners. This sander is primarily for large relatively flat surfaces, and in my opinion it does a good job when used properly.

The other thing that P-C should work on is the weight. I know we all carry around tools that weigh more than 8 pounds. Try holding it over your head for any length of time though. While it is balanced nicely, 8 lbs. is still 8 lbs.

You also don't need to spend "money" on the vacuum either. (Sorry P-C) My QSP shop vac with a Cleanstream/Gore-tex filter($22) works just fine.

The 13' hose means you can put the vacuum in the center of a room and not have to move the vacuum, just walk around and sand.

So, don't look for mine on "auctions". It's staying in my toolbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars Owned one for 6 years
Everyone HATES sanding drywall, but this tool makes sanding drywall so much much easier. Even with this tool you have to hand sand inside corners but that is all it won't do
If this tool was stolen I would for sure buy a new one

5-0 out of 5 stars Does the trick
I'm a homeowner with reasonable renovation skills. But drywalling is an art, and without this sander, my two-room rennovation would have been a lot harder. And I suspect the results wouldn't have been as good, especially on the ceiling. I used a fairly fine grit disk becuase the reviews I read suggested the tool could gouge. You have to proceed slowly and keep the unit moving. But it really works well, especially when hooked into the companion vacuum.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice product for a nasty job
I am a pro drywall finisher. I just bought this machine from Tool Crib, and while I have not learned to use it to it's full potential yet, (only had it two days)I can see that it will do the job. I will say this word of warning; I really DO NOT think that it will replace the final sanding. I apply three coats of setting type compound, not sanding at all till the third coat. Then I use thinned topping compound for a fourth coat, applied with the aid of a strong work light angled toward the wall. When that dries, I use a damp sponge and fine sandpaper. Probably overkill, but my customers love me! This tool is very usefull for that third coat sanding, i.e, smoothing the major flaws. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars tile saw info
This saw is pretty good for alot of different kinds of tile.Ihave owned one for over 2 yearsand have had no major problems.Igave it three stars because the table has alot of play in it so cutting stright cuts every time is hit or miss, its alot better if you use the stright edge that comes with the unit and push only with your left hand and use your right to hold your tile.I like the table ,because the tile can be put in the middle and not slide, very handy when you are cutting notches. The saw is very noisey so dont get scared when you turn it on.The water pump is the worst part of the saw.I had to start pluging it in ,get it pumping then hook it up to the saw and leave it running until I was through cutting all of my tile.It did help to clean the pump after I was done by putting it in a bucket of clean water and let it run for 15 minutes. The saw was easy to clean and move around.I rip 13 inch tiles all day long with no problem.I probably have over 200 tile jobs on it so far and still plan on many more.I have also just purchased a 660 for the better guides and the quite dc motor cant wait till it gets here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great saw!!
After reading many reviews I opted for the MK-370. What a great choice I made!
I am an amateur in the greatest sense of the word and this saw made me look like a pro.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer and probably will not be ripping anything bigger than a 13"
tile, this saw is great. Diagonals are a little hard but I was able to free hand them with no problem. The saw sprays a little water so you are better off using it outside.

The only other thing I would recommend is that you purchase the protractor attachment that works with the saw for some of those angled cuts. I don't believe you can buy it on this site, but finding it on the internet was easy as MK saws are very popular.

If I ever buy another saw you can bet it will be an MK.

4-0 out of 5 stars good value and light weight
I just finished using this saw on a kitchen remodel with 16 inch limestone tiles. Rips fit on the table but for diagonal cuts I had to make a jig to raise the tiles clear of the back push fence and flip the tiles over after cutting them half way or so. Yes this is a loud saw so ear plugs should be worn. The sliding table did bind a bit because of all the weight from those 16 inch tiles hanging off the front but if you push with your left hand and hold the tile with your right it works fine. With reasonable care I was able to get accurate cuts. I recomend lubing the rails with silicon grease because it holds up better than the oil provided with the saw. One modification I made lessened the amount of water splatter off the rear mudflap. I replaced the stock mudflap splash guard thingy with a similar sized piece of that green fake grass looking doormat. The force of the water coming of the blade is difused by the stiff hairs of the door mat stuff and does not create as much mist around the back of the saw. I got the idea from these special mudflaps used on tractor trailers and it works great. Next I'm working on an idea to keep water off the rails. After lugging around saws that weigh over a hundred pounds and are no more accurate I really enjoyed using this lightweight alternative. I would recommend it to any one from the DIY'er to pro remodelers like me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for novices.
I'm not exactly what you would consider "handy," but my wife and I decided to tile our master bath anyway. We tried renting a wet saw, but found that put too much pressure on us to get the job done quickly--not a possibility with my skill level. The MK-370 was a perfect choice for purchasing. It was easy to use and cut through our porcelain ceramic tile like butter. And owning this saw allowed us to work at our own comfortable pace. To our surprise, our project turned out better than expected and I can say that this saw was a major reason why.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost great
The MK-370K is ideal for my home projects, bathroom and kitchen, but I am disappointed in the water recirculation system. While it works, it is not well thought out, takes constant attention and interferes with the smooth operation of the sliding table. In fact, it looks more like an afterthought than an the critical and integral part it is. I am certain that eventually it will be redesigned and the unit will be greatly improved. Unfortunately, this will probably be done by the Japanese. ... Read more

This is the perfect dust collection system for the home woodworker. It packs a powerful 1-horsepower motor and moves a maximum of 650 cubic feet of air every minute. Top and bottom collection bags mean you score a hefty 2.6 cubic feet of chip/dust capacity. When we ran this system, we were impressed by how quiet it is--a great advantage for the home woodworker. The 4-inch hose fits standard dust and chip chutes on tools like your jointer, table saw, and planer--the big names in sawdust manufacturing! The AP400 is a great choice for the average home woodworking shop because it's mounted on such a small footprint--just 14 inches wide and 27 inches long--and it sits on four easy-glide wheels to move the system from one tool to another or into the corner for storage. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great collector, but shop around before you buy
Nice unit, I've always been happy with delta products. BUT, The shipment took OVER 1 MONTH with no explanation. This is the second big tool that I've purchased from Amazon.com and the last. Unacceptable

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good Dust Collector (after modification)
Have had the AP400 for a couple of months now and have had the same broblem with clogging on the planer as another reviewer, shavings getting hung up on the little cross bars at the inlet. I solved the problem with a slight modification (it involved metal snips) and it now works fine with no clogging! I have it connected with overhead pipe system (standard old galvinized vent pipe from my local home center) with T's coming off to four different machines with blast gates on each T to allow one at a time to be used. Works great you don't have to keep fooling with the large hose moving from one machine to another, just close and open blast gates as needed. When not in use I can disconnect the hoses that run from the blast gates at the T's down to each machine and roll all the equipment out of the way (I am set up in my garage works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great dust collector
Just got the AP400 and it had no problems when connected to my Delta 12.5" planer. I was planing 1X8 kiln dried cedar and I had no clogging problems at all. I used it extensively on my table saw and the dust fog I had been living with when ripping was no longer there. I would highly recommend this collector to anyone who has a small shop and wants to connect one machine at a time.

I machine so far works well, however I got a scare when I opend the box and everything was covered in a white powder. I got scared and called the Sheriff with what is going on in the world today.
Well come to find out it was what they put in the box to control moisture, they put a package containing lime. And the package got punctured somehow,I had never heard of that before I have always seen silicon gel used for that purpose. I suggest they use something else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Clogging issues with planers
Out of the box, the unit would clod very quickly when attached to a planer taking 1/16 of a 4" board (something a 650 CFM dust collector should not have a problem with). The problem is caused by a crossbar in the 4" inlet which appears to have been added to prevent someone from sticking there hand up into the impellers. Longer shavings from the planer get caught on the bar and then in turn help catch later pieces. I could probably be sued for suggesting people fix the problem the way that I did, so instead I would suggest the slightly more pricy JET which does not have a crossbar. Another reviewer went up in size instead and I think that is probably overkill for most small, single operator, shops. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No other nail gun is even close!
I am a roofing contractor. I have tried a few other brands of nail guns but none can come close to the quality and durability of the Hitatchi! There is nothing else to say. You can not beat this gun. It won't dissapoint you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome nailer
I researched several roofing nailers and based my decision on the reviews I read about the Hitachi. I have shingled two roofs so far and have had zero problems. The second roof I did was for a friend and he helped with his Poter Cable nailer. It was picky about the nails that were used, jamed often and had no depth setting. The Hitachi kept plugging along and never missed a beat. The depth setting was crucial for the different situations when installing shingles. After years of hammering nails and seeing other guns in action, I highly recommend the Hitachi NV45AB2.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE PERFECT ROOFING NAILER
Hitachi has long had the best roofing coil nailer on the market with the NV-45AB. This new and improved model actually made the best thing even better. It is very similar to the previous nailer but it offers an easier method to reload coils. Much more durable than any of its competition. I have tried them all. Max, Bostitch, Senco, Paslode. Nothing can surpass the Hitachi!

Long nails into hardwood? No problem. Working overhead? It's only 4.2 pounds. Hate having the exhaust in your face? Tool-free, 360-degree adjustment takes care of that. No time for jams? Clearing takes no more than a couple of seconds because of the quick-release nose. The magazine is made of nylon, but it seems as rugged to us as any metal magazine out there. That's also why this nailer is so easy on the hands. Add to that a nicely padded grip and a selective trigger and you'd think you have the perfect nailer. But get this—there's a built-in dust blower that clears light debris and dust from your workpiece. Hitachi quality leaves nothing to want.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable and Tough as Nails
I've used this gun quite a bit and it hasn't misfired yet. It's simple to use and feels solid, made to last. Plenty of power too; sinks 2 1/2" nails into pressure treated fir with no problem. In white pine I had to back the pressure off to keep it from sinking them TOO deep! The air nozzle feature should be on every finish nailer. You'd be surprised how handy it is; no need to put the gun down to clear away the chips etc... that always seem to get in the way of a good fit. The only drawback I found is that you'll have to go to a good hardware store to find an air fitting for it. Once that's done it's the perfect finish nailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars great nailer
i bought this nailer several months ago. great finish gun. the little button near the top/side of the gun is an air blower. great to have available when doing base, to blow away the crumbs from falling plaster or debris that is in the way. just push and it blows it away, nice added feature that the others don't have. have had no problems and would recommend this highly

4-0 out of 5 stars good tool--bad customer service
excellent tool--but no free shipping as advertised--but bought the tool anyway! don't know if this is indicative of amazon policy--used car salesmen!

5-0 out of 5 stars Full Time Finish Carpenter
I currently run five Hitachi, three Senco, and two Max finish nailers. The Hitachi NT65MA2 is the best nailer I have. It is very light with minimal recoil. It has enough power to sink nails in maple effortlessly. It is stone cold reliable- it has never broken a driver after five years of fulltime use (bought my old NT65MA in 98). The safety works well without marring. It shoots the Senco DA series (also UA) nail which has become the defacto industry standard. Hitachi appears to have spared no effort in designing and building the best 2 1/2" finish nailer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent night
We live in Hawaii and like many people here suffer terribly from allergies, especially when the Kona winds are blowing from the big island, bringing the dreaded "vog" (volcano smog) with them. On top of that, my husband is allergic to our two beloved cats (the cats and I decided to keep him anyway) and I was allergic to his subsequent noisy snoring, so I purchased this item. I must admit I thought it might wind up just being another gadget lying around the house, but I am very pleased to report that it is an extremely useful device that has made our sleep significantly more peaceful and restful. We keep it on automatic most of the time; it's a tad noisy at night if it kicks into high gear, so occasionally we switch it onto whisper quiet before we sleep. I'm so glad we bought it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who suffers from allergies or has pets that they don't want to banish from the house. I also like the streamlined design of the Hamilton Beach model, the others looked too heavy and obtrusive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great purifier for the price!
I recently purchased this unit with hopes of reducing dust and other particulates in my bedroom. For reference, I live in Manhattan where the air quality is sometimes not the greatest.

Summary: Great unit for the price. Super ergonomics and clear displays make this unit a winner!

Positive aspects

1. Inexpensive price. Good value for the buck compared with many other filters on the market.

2. Good ergonomics. I actually liked the fact that you can monitor filter lifespan and air quality on a clear to read LCD. You can also see if the anti-germ UV bulb is working by seeing a glow out of a darkly tinted (for safety!) window on top.

3. Easy to set up! I had this puppy up and running in under 10 minutes. Pretty foolproof installation makes this one a keeper.

4. Great filtering technology. The unit can automatically adjust to the air quality in your room. Very nice! Also, I noticed a change in the air quality within 1 hour of operation.

5. Small form factor. After all, no one wants a huge unit in their bedroom!

Some minor complaints:

1. Power cord. I wish the power cord were a bit longer so that I could have greater placement flexability. Not a big deal.

2. UV bulb. Replacing the UV germicidal bulb is tad bit expensive. Again, not a big deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great, but doesn't seem to last
This air cleaner has to be one of the coolest air cleaners out there. So far, I have not seen any in this price range that automatically adjust to the air quality. I like that it comes with a guage to let me know when I need to change the hepa filter. The gauge and a cleaner for the air sensor each have a special storage spot, so they don't get lost.

The one I have now is the second one I have bought, but the third one that I have had.

The first one worked for about 9 months, then the motor started to squeak. I called Hamilton Beach, and they asked me to send it in for warranty service. I got a brand new one back. I was about to have to change the filter in mine, so it worked out kinda nice. The new unit lasted about a year, then the motor just stopped. It was out of warranty by this point, so I went out and bought another.

Now I have had my third unit for about 6 months, and the motor died again, so I am going to have to call Hamilton Beach again, and probably ship it out.

I would think the motors should outlast the HEPA filter, but it hasn't been the case. I am a smoker, so it cycles from low to high quite often, but I wouldn't think that should be a problem.

When this filter works, it works great.... It helps keep my place from stinking from the smoke, and helps my allergies. The customer service has been great so far too. I just wish the unit would last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I bought this machine to help me with my allergies. It has worked tremendously and I highly recommend it. Running the purifier in the bedroom overnight has allowed me to sleep peacefully. The purifier is also excellent in the kitchen at removing any odors from cooking.
The machine is louder than I would like. On the lowest setting it can still be heard but is tolerable, and after a while you don't notice it. On the highest setting the noise is deafening and forces me to turn it to a lower setting. However, on the highest setting it is very fast and effective at cleaning the air in an entire room.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does it all
This air filter is designed amazingly well. It can even be placed against a wall. The air enters through the front passing through a carbon and hepa filter, then the air exits through the top on its way back out into the room. Before the air exits, it passes by an ultraviolet light which kills mold spores, bacteria & viruses (a must for the au courant hypochondriac). It is very quiet & has a sensor which automatically & temporarily increases the fan speed to clean the excess pollution from the room. It even has a digital display to let you know it's working. This air purifier has everything you need and all for under $150. After owning it for two weeks, I bought a second one. If you have allergies (and even if you don't), buy one and your nose and lungs will most definitely thank you. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Looking right out of the Jetsons' household, Fein's Turbo II vacuum is one the most effective on the market. With features like automatic start and dust-sealed switches, it's specifically designed to work with shaping, routing, or sanding tools, which create a lot of dust. It's also as quiet as any shop vacuum we've heard, making it easier to use in close proximity to a project, or in an enclosed space, and its internal fabric boot helps keep dust to a minimum. The Turbo II has a 7.3-gallon solid capacity, a 6.8-gallon liquid capacity, and a 1,300-watt, 9-1/2 amp, two-stage motor. Its size and sturdy rollers make it very portable and easy to dump after being filled. Unlike some larger models, you'll still be able to lift and empty this vacuum by yourself. The body is solid plastic and will hold up well to wear. The shape of the vacuum makes it easy to move around a job site--there aren't any big handles or attachments sticking out (other then the hose) to get snagged when wheeling the vacuum around. Fein's Turbo II is--hands down--a very high-quality, very low-noise vacuum, well worth the investment for carpenters, woodworkers, and craftspeople. --Jonathon Tudor ... Read more

Features

  • 16-foot long hose, and a fabric boot filter collects dust down to 5 microns
  • Auto start for dust extraction when connected to your power tool
  • 2-stage motor with bypass cooling for a longer life

  • 7.3-gallons solid, 6.8-gallons fluid capacity

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Vacuum but not entirely as advertised.
This seems to be a good vacuum. It's easy to assemble (put the wheels on and attach the HEPA filter) and operate. Good thing, because the manual is poor. Removing the top and the 5 micron felt filter require a little force. The chord and 1¼" hose are nice and long (but can get in the way). Other vacuuming accessories cost extra.

The HEPA filter is expensive, but if you're doing woodwork or sanding, you need a HEPA filter (not available for all shop vacuums). The dust that standard filters let pass is invisible, and dangerous over time. The automatic switch is a particularly nice feature; it lets the (2000 watt max.) tool you're using turn the vacuum on and off.

If this vacuum actually put out only 57.8 dB(A), as advertised, it would be incredibly quiet. The first unit I got was defective, putting out close to 90 dB with the hose on, so I exchanged it. If you get one that sounds loud, something is wrong. In a large, fully carpeted room (i.e., no echo), I measured 3½ to 4 feet from the unit with a Radio Shack decibel meter. Without the hose it put out about 68 dB; with the hose about 72 dB (A and C). This is about as loud as a noisy office, so it's still pretty quiet; but although it's only 1/1000th the volume of my old (90 dB) shop vacuum, it's technically 16 times as loud as advertised. (Due to the nature of human hearing, that means it sounds a bit more than twice as loud as 57.8 dB.)

10 Oct 03 update: The vacuum has performed very well. The information available on Fein's web site ......... is pretty much what comes with the vacuum (not much). I got some bags to protect the expensive filters when I vacuum the car; they're also expensive. Unlike most shop vacuums, the exhaust does not come out one opening that you can attach a hose to (e.g., to direct the exhaust air somewhere or to use it as a blower). I've been able to use accessories from previously owned vacuums with this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well engineered shop vacuum
I bought the TurboII to replace a burned out shopvac QSP-pro. So far I am quite happy with my choice. The turboII is much higher quality than the shopvac QSP-pro. This is the first shopvac I've used that has a decibel rating low enough to preclude hearing protection. The motor should far outlast those used in lower cost shopvacs, since it has a bypass cooling system. Suction power is as good or better than the QSP-pro. The extra long stock hose is great for hooking to tools for dust collection. For general purpose vacuuming I recommend investing in a wider diameter hose. My only caveats about this machine are the high cost of accessories and filters. It ships with zero attachments. My QSP-pro cost 1/3 in price, but came with a wide assortment of tools. Luckily you can friction fit a standard large diameter shopvac hose. The rubber tool adapter will let you use accessory tools from other vendors. The top handle is a bit uncomfortable when the vac is loaded down. Some cardboard padding and a bit of tape fixed that problem for me. Overall this is probably one of best shop vacuums available. Definitely worth the high cost if you need a machine you can depend on everyday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Fein Turbo II fan
Most of the other reviews are very positve. Mine is no exception. I want to add my 2 cents anyway and respond to some reviewers negative comments.

1) Yes, the manual is brief, but come on, it's a vacuum. It's got an on/off switch, a manual/automatic (tool triggered) switch and a hose. What's to know?

2) It is so quiet that I sometimes have to hold my hand over the hose to make sure it's on. It always is. 72ish dB by my meter with the hose on (how could you use it hoseless?) in my concert floored, plaster board walled garage shop. If you buy one and feel that it's loud it must be defective. Return it and ask for a replacement. Still that's a bit over twice as loud in real life as the maker's 57.8 dB claim (by definition twice as loud is +10dB, although Fein probably tests in an anechoic chamber to eliminate echo and ambient noise). Twice as loud as really, really quiet is still really quiet.

3) One reviewer commented about hose storage interfering with the clamps. I suggest that you empty it before you wrap the hose around the top and tuck it in for the night.

4) It's insanely powerful.

5) Yes, it's hose is small in diameter so you can't pick up big chunks of stuff. It does, however, do a great job on little chunks of stuff and dust.

6) It is expensive, but you get what you pay for "You always buy a cheap tool twice".

7) I have had no problems with any "brittle" plastic bits and pieces (in fact, I haven't found any yet).

8) I use it a lot because it's so quiet an effective. My shop is safer and more organized now because it's much cleaner.

9) I planned on buying the Porter-Cable, but it wouldn't handle the wattage of my 2hp router. I usually buy P-C and Delta so it was kinda hard to stray to Fein, but I'm glad I did.

10) The accesory kit is a little expensive ($70) but it's very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice compact unit - QUIET!!!
As a professional finish carpenter, I like tools that work well, and last a long time. This tool has the feel of quality. It's a few pounds heavier than a typical shop-vac, but what a difference. It is a pure joy to use. When I turn it on my lab doesn't run for the door. And when I turn it off my ears aren't ringing. The extra long hose(25') and easy rolling casters make for a tip free clean-up, and the auto switch works like a charm. I have made adaptors for my sliding miter saw and sanders and I rarely need to use a dust mask any more. The ultra-fine dust from MDF still seems to get by, but I suppose it would happen with any vac except a true dust collector.

I had a Sears shop vac before that blew out half the dust it picked up, and it screamed like a banshee. I gave that vac to a laborer, and feel that the Fein is well worth every penny.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't jump to conclusions !!!
I gave away my Ridgid shop vac as soon as the Fein box arrived from Amazon.com. That was a mistake!!!!...this vac is too delicate to use "hard" during my kitchen demo/remodel - and I got so frustrated with the filter and small 1-1/4" hose constantly clogging, I gave up and bought another Ridgid vac. I think this vac would work great for woodworking, but general construction site conditions far out tax this machine, and it's difficult to get filters/bags..... ... Read more

Time is money, so no wonder this is one of Hitachi's best sellers. Its ability to fire plastic-collated full round head framing nails from 2" to 3-1/4" means you're getting the job done faster at an amazing three-nails-per-second. No fiddling with tools to adjust the drive depth, either, which is another great feature. Though it's not the lightest nailer we've handled at 7.9 pounds, it's so nicely balanced that the weight isn't really a detriment. It didn't jam on us, but if it should, we think clearing would only take a second due to the nice open nose design. 5-0 out of 5 stars A cute, yet intelligent little working bunny
This is my first sewing machine after reading on tons of reviews on different makes and brands. I settled with a Singer because my mother has several old ones and it has a reputable name.

I was so excited and surprised how easy the manual was and I was sewing straight stitches and even some of the fancy stitches in less than 30 minutes. I love the size of the machine, it's relatively quiet, and it's just a cute little thing!! Bought it on Amazon for $169 about a month ago, surprised to see it now has an even further reduced price of $129. Simply amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!!!
This is the easiest machine to use. I had an old Singer that my grandmother gave me (ancient!) and ended up throwing it away because I couldn't figure out how to load the bottom bobbin. With this machine I was ready to sew in a matter of minutes. Includes a great user manual (for those of you that, like me, aren't that well versed at sewing). Not only is it easy to set up but it is self guiding - it virtually sews for you.

Great machine at a great price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little machine, but...
This is a very good machine for a great price -- it's easy to thread, runs smoothly and quietly. It should be known, however, that: filling the bobin requires you to take out the bobbin and thread it on top of the machine... the overall dimensions of the machine are small -- there is not much room "inside" for a lot of material. It sews well but not at top speed. The removable piece in front of the sewing plate is a little flimsy. These may be necessary compromises for all that is good about this machine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Singer Featherweight 132Q
I recently acquired a used Singer Featherweight 132Q which was only used twice prior to my purchase. Although I like that it is lightweight and easy to use, I found it to be very noisy. I do not know if this is typical of the machine, but I would prefer it to be quieter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine for the Price!
I purchased this machine specifically for the doll-making part of my studio work and it has become my favorite machine for most projects, from historic costumes to quilt piecing. It required initial adjustment to the bobbin tension, which was way too tight, but has held up beautifully to heavy use. Handles fine fabrics and denim equally well. A nice little workhorse for an excellent price! ... Read more

What's your biggest complaint about using a router in a table? Height adjustment, right? Welcome to the router of your dreams. Porter-Cable's routers are among the best in the industry, and they just went one step better with a simple but ingenious device called a "Router Table Height Adjuster." It does what it sounds like: lets you adjust bit height from above the table. That's just one of many reasons we're so impressed with the 895 kit. Soft start tames the voracious 12-amp motor so there's no twist at startup. Variable speed ranges from 10,000 to 23,000 rpm with electronic feedback. Both bases are among our favorites in the routing world for their ease of control and fit in hand. The plunge base rides smooth as silk, and the locking mechanisms and depth turrets area right where you'd naturally want them. Dust is collected right through the base, too, for a clean sightline. Another nice feature: For safety's sake, there's an automatic bit-changing power lock-off. This is the perfect outfit for the home woodworker--it's the only router you'll ever need, since the plunge base in included--as well as the professional, who demands the kind of performance Porter-Cable brings with this model.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... 4-0 out of 5 stars overall a great router
This is my 3rd router. My 30 year old B&D commercial router still
works but it was tough to adjust the height after I mounted it in a router table. This led to my purchase of a Bosch 1617 which works much better in the router table. I was disappointed that it was so noisy, especially since it was advertised to ne a very quiet machine. Changing bits on the Bosch was was as awkward as changing them on my B&D.
I have been so impressed with my new 895PK that I discarded my Porter Cable router table and built a new router table using oak for the cabinet complete with 6 drawers and storage compartments. I love the ease of height adjustment and blade change, the quiet motor, and the power this machine has.

I haven't used the plunge base yet. I have never had a plunge base router and doubt I will ever have much use for the plunge base. I would rate this router 5 stars if the owners manual was
better written

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the 690, good for a router table
This is the first router designed specifically for router table use, so promoted by Porter-Cable. Adjusts nicely from the top of the table. And is removed nicely with the same adjuster.
This is my third Porter-Cable router.
The other router I was looking at was the 8529 Porter-Cable which is just a plunge router that's supposed to be good for the router table, which you can adjust from the top of the table.
The plunge base I find somewhat awkward. I don't do that much in terms of plunge routing and the plunge routing I did do was manageable once I got up to speed. I think it will be ok if I need too use it. It seems to stick a bit, it's not a tight, smooth plunge and the lever feels alittle awkward. I do believe it's much better than the 690s plunge base which I thought was a slight step up from useless. If I begin doing more plunge routing and I find this base isn't working good for me I may reevaluate my review and/or get another router.
My first use is in the router table, second is hand held so for that I like the fit, finish, overall design and ergonomics.
For running simple edges and some jointery I found this a good option. The ability to adjust this so well from the top of the table without having to get a lift is well worth it for me.I also liked being able to use some of my guide that i previously bought for my 690.
If I needed to do a lot of panel doors and a lot of horsepower. I'd get a shaper and not waste money on a dedicated router and lift.

1-0 out of 5 stars Base is cracked upon receipt
Well...ONE star. I bought this model based on reviews on various woodworking forums and for the above table adjusting feature. While waiting for this to arrive I built my own router table for this model. As mentioned by a previous buyer, the spindle lock was cracked, except mine came that way. So I cant really rate the performance. Not sure at this time If I will go with a replacement unit or just return the whole thing and get something else. I really wanted the above table feature but the finish on this really leaves a lot to be desired. I will update with performance if I get a replacement.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless router
I just bought this piece of %#*&%*# about 3 weeks ago. When I opened the box, I was so disappointed about the finish and the material used. It seemed like that it was made in a cheapest labor country using the cheapest aluminum and plastic. The plunge locking lever, the clamp, the height adjustment seem will break down soon with a little use. The plunging action is stuck most time, and the locking mechanism hangs up. After only a couple of times of changing the bits, the spindle lock bend, cracked and stuck there. Now the router can not be used until it gets fixed. Some other guys said better not use the spindle lock, but for making the dovetails, there is no room there for using two wrenches. From the crack, you can tell the material used for the spindle lock is a cheap metal. Also the spindle lock itself is too small to stand a proper torque..
Overall: the plunge base is useless. That means one fourth of its value is gone. The material is cheap, and the finish is poor. Some parts will break down themselves sooner or later with a little use.
Some guy may think I am expecting too much. Come one, this is a more than $250 router. And what router's plunge action should be stuck most time, and the locking mechanism hangs up sometimes? What I expect is that it should do the job it is supposed to do. I think there shuld be some better routers out there in the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Problems with PC 890 plunge router base
I purchased the PC 895 combo back in February and I also experienced a problem with the plunge base. The plunging action was not smooth and the locking mechanism seemed to hang up. Was not happy with it at all.

Last week I had a trip scheduled to Atlanta so I took my plunge base and motor by the Atlanta PC service center. The technician adjusted the locking mechanism and the plunge and now it seems to work great. The plunging action is smooth and the locking mechanism is crisp and no longer hangs up. I would suggest that any of you who are experiencing this problem to take it by the repair center. There was no charge for this and I am now happy with the plunge mechanism. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars value
Bosch made a great offer with this set. Having used every tool in this kit quite frequently here are my thoughts:

Jigsaw--Nice having no cord to worry about, easy blade changes, plenty powerful for every thing I've needed it for. Excellent, replaced my cordo.(wood,PT,plywood,MDF,aluminium)

Drill/Driver--Excellent power, balance, and good clutch. like the bit holder in the base, good ergonomics--(chuck is unconventional but seems rugged and easy to use). Hammer drill works well with tile, stone, masonry.

Circular Saw--Helpful for plywood and "2x's", needed a full charge on battery and insurance of another battery around. Nature of the beast(my experience is cordless circs just drain battery power). Good for occasional use.

Recip saw--Good enough for me...used it to cut pvc, wood, etc...good blade changes. Again similar battery consumption as Circ. But great for the occasion when you need it.

Flashlight--c'mon its a freakin light! (Nice to have--even a spare bulb has its own home inside this light)

The initial price seemed like a lot...but considering an average drill/driver alone is about half of that price. It is a good investment. I am impressed by Bosch's engineering and their commitment to making durable, tough tools. They are joy to use and own. Take advantage of the free jigsaw offer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful and well built
I purchased the Bosch tool set in late December. I am a contractor who needs durable and reliable tools. When I started my search, I researched the Porter Cable, Milwaukee and Dewalt cordless sets. I have all three brands in corded/pneumatic tools and have been satisfied with their performance. I limited my search to these brands until I saw the Bosch.

Hands down, the build of Bosch was superior to the other three. And their attention to little things makes me very glad I made the purchase. For example:
1. The drill with its hook is invaluable, especially when hanging sheetrock. It is heavier than the others, but sturdier in the hand.
2. The reciprocating saw has an adjustable foot and varying blade stroke. Both features are used often by me. My job has me cutting pipe, 2 by's, sheetrock, etc. and these features have made the job easier.
3. The circular saw comes with and exhaust port to attach to my portable vac. I can cut inside now with limited dust. Additionally the depth gage is handy
4. The jig saw with the blow port helps keep the line open to the eye and the ability to change the orbital action is great when stepping up the cut. (the saw works the best with bosch t-blades)
5. Ok - the light is the worst - Dewalts is much better.

The kicker in making the decision to purchase the Bosch was the 3 year warranty. I have had to use it once already. The head on the recip saw broke. I was sent a new one in a few days and was up and running. I get the feeling that the head has been an issue. The new one I received was made different.

The bag is a bit of a pain, but it does allow me to carry the charger, and three cases containing recip saw blades, jigsaw blades and drill bits.

For the money, the Bosch Cordless set is a very good choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good set of tools
PRO - more bang for your buck
CON - the darn bag
I was debating with myself should I go with DEWALT, MILWAUKE or BOSCH and after buying Bosch tools I couldn't be happier. The hammerdrill has great power although I haven't used it in a hammer mode. The feature that I like on it is that you can hold the nose of the chuck to steady the drill and it won't burn your fingers. Jigsaw cuts with great power, and ease, and the circular saw cuts the 2x material as if it's butter. I still haven't tried the reciprocating saw but it seeems strong and tough enough. The only con is the bag. It is great by itself but I would like to see this combo in a hard case. The whole combo is worth more than I paid for. If it helps anyone, HD and JS-made in Switzerland, RS-made in Mexico, CS-assembled in Mexico, Flashlight-made in China, Battery- made in Japan.
P.S. I'm thinking of buying a planer too.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5++ Stars The Best!
This is extremely well-designed and well-built. If I could I would give more than Five stars for Bosch tools. I highly recommend it.
