Luckily, I purchased a Dewalt mitre saw so I didn't experience the problems noted by other reviewers about the rails not fitting the saw base. Once the saw is mounted to the rails, set up is a snap and the saw really stays in place. I am looking forward to using this stand and saw combo for a long time. I might take the advice of a previous reviewer and see if I can construct some rails for easily mounting my table saw to this stand.

The build: 60-90 minutes, you'll go faster with a cordless drill with a socket attachment. This will likely also prevent you from over-torquing and breaking any fasteners. The good: Sturdy and stable though a bit heavy with wheels and a handle for easy mobility. Outfeed supports for long boards and easily collapsible for storage. The DeWalt, even being more expensive doesn't have the flexibility for movement that this does (a major consideration if you need to move it from site to site). The stand is HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE, for anyone whose stood at a miter saw for hours and ends up with a sore back from bending over, this is a very good feature! The bad: The afforementioned fact that some accessories won't work. I wondered during the set-up why Delta doesn't offer 2 different model stands, and offer them at less cost. If you have a saw that will fit the standard MDF mount then you can, if not you have to take that off and use different brackets. You end up with a lot of leftover parts either way. It's heavy, but that lends to the sturdiness of it so you take the bad with the good there. Some people complain about having to set up the outfeed supports each time but if you mark the posts like someone else suggested, it's a no-brainer. There is some small room for improvement so I'm giving it 4 stars, but as with any "universal" stand there's going to be different issues for different saws.
After I got it home I read some owner's comments suggesting that the enclosed hardware was crap. I have to agree. I didn't strip any of the bolts out, but it's a wonder. They're too soft, I believe. At least all the necessary hardware was included. The only other problem has to deal with the stand's inability to be left unattended when it's folded in a semi-upright position. Some folks have suggested kickstands but I decided to work with what was already there: First, I stood the saw upright in the folded condition and let it balance on one leg, blocking the wheel so it wouldn't get away from me. Then, I drilled a hole through one of the hinges where the two flat metal plates overlap when the stand is folded. I then inserted a 5/16" bolt with a plastic handwheel through the hole. With the bolt in position, the stand can't move, even though it's sitting at about a 75 degree angle. I also painted the plastic handwheel dayglo orange so the reason for immobility would catch my eye if I got stupid one day. Now it works great! As far as using the thing, it's great. I've got a 12" Dewalt CMS on mine. I don't regret buying the stand at all.
The only problem I have with this stand is it is not designed to fit the big saws (12 inchs) Delta, or otherwise. You have to remove the MDF table that is used for mounting, and then reverse the setup using the provided rails. If you do not reverse the setup, the side with the wheels attachted will not close up for movement. This unit is quite combersome with my big Delta attached, but does a good job of rolling, and is very steady when set up. The out riggers are nice for working with long lengths of materials. I would highly recommend this unit for the price.
It did take longer to assemble than I expected but the handbook was reasonably well written and led me through the process. This stand is well designed and full of little features you discover through use. The cord storage rack on the back is simple and adds a lot of utility to the stand. Simple spring loaded levers make setup and breakdown simple and the stand is sturdy in the setup configuration (on reasonably level surfaces). I will say that changing configuration can be a handful with my heavy 12" Delta saw on the stand; but it is one of those things you just learn to do. I recently helped my son frame up a large storage shed on his property. He is a construction superintendent and has access to a lot of neat toys. After watching me drag the stand out of my pickup, roll it over to his slab and set it up in about one minute he just said "Cooollll". That about says it! ... Read more

The large jig with the wings is the most useful. It has a built-in clamp to hold the wood securely against the drilling jig. There are three separate guide holes that allow for different spacing of holes. The "wings" are two separate parts that do not connect to the main jig. You will have to screw all three pieces to a piece of 3/4" plywood to get the most use out of it. That leaves a big vacancy in the case if you leave it setup, as I do, but that makes a good place to store additional screws. The "Mini Jig" is great for those large panels that can't be mounted in the main jig. Just clamp it where you want it and drill the holes. Depth adjustment is easy with the guide on the "wings." Just lay the special bit in the groove with the bit's shoulder aligned with the thickness of the material you are screwing to. Slide the stop collar on the bit shaft until it is against the side of the wing and tighten. You can't make an error. It does pay to check the collar every now and then to make sure it has not slipped. If you over drill, you will be going through the face side of your work with the screws. I use this in place of biscuits in many cases, but don't throw out the biscuit joiner yet! On long, edge-joined pieces, it is helpful to throw in a few biscuits for alignment between the screws, not gluing them if you want to make it a "knock-down" cabinet. I used to think I was pretty slick with a drill, cutting an occasional pocket hole freehand. That just is not as precise or repeatable as the results you will get with this jig. I would highly recommend adding this outfit to your shop - you will get more and better results! Oh, and do order some extra screws - you WILL have a use for them!

Amazon is the only place that I found that had it listed for under $300. Plus the free shipping is great. It only took 7 days to receive it. Now I'm looking for a router to dedicate to the table. I know I'll buy it from Amazon I just can't make up my mind.
The cast iron extension is a significant improvement over the stock stamped steel wings that came with my Dewalt saw (bigger, flatter, smoother). I haven't made any sawdust yet with this setup but so far it has been a tremendous value when you think about how much you actually get (fence, router plate, cast iron extension wing). Tim Malone wrote a review that said the ProMax was the perfect fit for his Dewalt 746 saw. I just talked with someone from BenchDog and they had some concerns that the ProMax would have interference problems because my DeWalt is a left tilting saw. Tim (or anyone for that matter) can you tell me if your Dewalt was a left or right tilt saw. I was not aware of Dewalt making the 746 in a right tilt version. If there is anyone out there that has installed the ProMax on a left tilter, please let me know. Thanks in advance,
The wing is boxed well and though there was a little damage to the box, the contents were in good shape. The first thing I noticed when beginning assembly is the screws and bolts were packed in some random order. I recommend dumping them all into a ziplock bag before starting. This will save you some time having not to disassemble or look for other bags. The wing is well coated with oil. I used simple green to remove the residue. After it was clean, I assembled it to the saw. Fit up was good and this wing is flat (more flat than my saw). The fence is quality and went together with no problems and the insert leveled with no issues. Now for the reason I gave this product a 4 star rating. The wing is supplied with hooks to hold the fence when not in use. These hooks share the same hole as the attachment screws for the miter gage. The problem is that the holes were not tapped all the way through, they stopped about 1/8" shy. I have three options, to tap the holes myself, return the wing (now that it is fully assembled), or not use the hooks at all. The last option is not an option as far as I am concerned. I will speak with Bench Dog customer service tomorrow to see what they can do. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they shorted me one lock washer as well. Update 4/23/04, I moved this from a 4 star to a 5 star due to their customer service. I called and they sent me a tap to complete the threads. The were willing to replace the wing but I have done a lot of metal work in the past so finishing the hole was no problem. They were aware of the problem and were very appologetic. I used this on some cherry and boy is it nice. I would recomend this to anyone who has a space constrant in their shop.

However, I got it mostly to sharpen hex-base drill bits, as I use these drill bits with a quick-change chuck all the time. And I basically destroyed several bits (well, they were dull anyway) finding out that the chuck supplied with this unit simply can't get a proper grip on hex-base drill bits. They will be out of alignment, which means it won't work, at all. You just grind off random bits of your drill bit at random angles, resulting in a useless bit. Well, I _was_ able to sharpen a few of the bigger hex bits, but the 1/16", 1/8", and 3/16" bits were trashed. So for my main use--sharpening hex-base bits--this fails pretty badly. If I'd known this, I wouldn't have gotten it. (Of course none of the marketing information or tech support information mentions this--if they did, they might lose some sales.) So I'll keep it, but quite disappointed. And no, tech support didn't have any suggestions for how to fix the problem. So, if you want to sharpen small hex bits, give this a pass. If you don't use hex bits, it is a good deal. And the video they supply is excellent for teaching you how to use it. Your mileage may vary.
Incidently, one reviewer said that he received screwdriver tips instead of drills with his unit. I did not find that to be the case. I received the drills.

My shop is so small Hennie Youngman could do a whole routine around it. I don't have the luxury of thousands of square feet of space to plant work stations and production tools. So, I rely on putting everything on wheels to keep it out of the way untill I need it. I made my own untill I discovered the HTC2000 mobile base. I ordered one for my jointer and another for my table saw. My jointer is now a dream come true! The large wheels track easily and smoothly and it sets down firmly. The only drawback was that the front was higher than the back but that is an easy fix with a spacer or adjusting up your machines leveling feet. Oddly enough I did not have this problem on the second one I ordered for the table saw. That on is so level you could set grade with it. For the life of me I can't figure the difference but who cares? The only downside I noticed on the one for the table saw was that my saw may be a little heavy for it. I have an old, big Craftsman with a custom made T-Square fence. It rolls very nicely but the cam levers for raising and lowering seem to strain a little in the lift mode. If you are going to move larger machinery I would suggest contacting the company regarding their custom made program. Overall, if you ever want a stationary machine to have any portability you can't go wrong with this product. And at this price, you can afford a little custom tuning to get exactly what you want.

Forrest offers resharpening service for these blades that restores them to factory specs. They do require a special grind that most "locals" can't do. Buy this blade and you won't be sorry - buy once, cut twice as long!
Before I bought a Forrest blade, I'd have to have to plane, joint, and then finish cut on my table saw to get precise 90 degree corners, and even then, the edges of my stock I couldn't use for a glue-joint. Then I found the thin kerf Woodworker II. Wow, I've saved considerable time and sold my Delta jointer as a result of this sawblade. Even with over 1500 lineal feet of stock previously cut on the blade, I've been able to joint an edge straight from the tablesaw to the clamping rack. Impressive! Make sure that you buy the Forrest blade stabilizer, and a zero clearance insert for your tablesaw, in order to get the most finished cuts. It'll reduce the depth of cut by about 1.5 inches, but you'll still be able to cut 8/4 stock with no problem. Sharpening will [cost you]..., but you'll get a lot of use from it before you have to do that. And, now I'm in the hunt for the Forrest 8 inch dado. p.s. You can probably find it cheaper than here on Amazon[.com], look at eBay and at Forrest's website
Well, first I unwrapped the box and held the blade in my hand and could tell this is one well built blade. It is sturdy and heavy, very solid. Second, I mounted it on my tablesaw and mounted my zero clearance insert. I noticed immediately how well balanced the blade is because the blade did not chatter against the zero clearance plate like my Freud blade did. Third, I cut a piece of oak plywood and was amazed how the blade cut through it like a hot knife through butter. Fourth, there was not one splinter hanging from the plywood, whereas my Freud blade would cause a splintery mess. I would not hesitate to buy this blade again.
For those of you that have burning problems...you must not have your table saw set up right...cause I cannot see how you could be burning your wood on cuts when I don't experience this nor do a whole bunch of other people... Get the Forrest Blades you won't regret it... ... Read more

I use this tool for retrofit and for new construction and no longer carry fixed templates anymore. For new construction, you simply spend a few minutes assembling and configuring the template and then it is good to go for days of door hanging. It takes just moments to switch the hinge size for different door thicknesses, a time saver compared to fetching another full size template that could be lost in a different part of the jobsite. Retrofitting new doors in old jambs is cake as you can easily match the template to the old hinge layout for perfect mortises that fit the first time. The rails have holes that engage ball bearings on the template frames. This prevents the hinge layout from changing if you should drop the tool on end. If you have ever used the PC template and bumped it while transferring from the door to the jamb, you know what a problem it is too have the template spacing change on you. On room additions, it is easy to match the hinge layout for the new doors and jambs to match the old doors due to the adjustability of the Bosch template (this is important in situations where the new doors are close to old doors and the homeowner would notice the hinges not lining up). The kit comes with 2 top guides of different lengths that accomodate any top hinge spacing you will find in the field. The rails allow infinite adjustment so you can quickly match any hinge layout. One thing the PC has over the bosch is that edge stops retract. This is only an issue when remortising the hinge gaines on an old jamb that has casing and caulking too close to the jamb edge. On the Bosch, the fixed edge stops can sometimes hit the caulking or casing and prevent the template sections from laying completely flat. On the PC, the stops can retract to counteract this problem, but overall the Bosch is significantly more accurate in retrofit situations. When you first get your new Bosch template kit, you need to fine tune the hinge length stops. From the factory, they are not correct. Two screws loosen and allow an adjustable plate to be moved into the correct position. A quick run on a 2x4 lets you check for perfection before you ever touch an expensive door. As mentioned by others, the small metal case is much more user friendly than the extra long PC box, but it doesn't hold the 4 hinge conversion kit or the 3 hinge extended rail kit. What most guys do is buy an additional standard kit, and make custom wooden rails for 8 to 10 foot doors. This way you have 6 template sections instead of four, and you can theoretically have 2 guys hanging 6-8 doors for more production. The jamb gauges only fit Timely or hollow metal frames, so you need to file them down to fit wood jambs for retrofit jobs. But there are other ways to match existing hinge layouts so I don't recommend the jamb gauges unless you like to order book doors for commercial jobs or do nothing but retrofit. Like any metal template, when you hit it with the router bit, it gets nicked and the bit can get damaged. But the template sections completely disassemble so any damaged part can be replaced. More than once I forgot to put the template guide in the router and got some healthy gouges in the template. A call to Bosch and all was fixed. Usually, though, you will nick the sides or length adjustment plate and these are quickly fixed in the field. The sides can be "reversed" and the length stops can be filed flat and readjusted. The hinge size adjustment bar can be rotated to move the nick out of the way. Very reliable even when damaged! This is a terrific professional tool for the professional door hanger. And it works with any router that has a 1/2" mortising bit and 5/8" template guide. It even works for 5/8" radius hinges with a 1 1/4" mortising bit and 1 3/8" template guide. A homeowner would not need this tool, and it is not efficient for hanging just 1 door.
So why not just buy pre-hung doors and not bother to deal with it? The problem is that in order to trim the jamb to the thickness of the wall, you have to remove it from the door, disassemble it, then run it through the table saw, then reattach it. Or, in the event of a wall thicker than the pre-hung jamb, having to live with a seam, or a very large molding to cover it. With this kit, you can buy doors that are not pre-hung, and buy jamb boards that are wider than the jamb, trim them to size on your saw, then assemble for installation. Additionally you might want to create your jamb out of something other than the standard pine.

There were a couple of problems with the instructions:
I can understand how contractors could benefit from a lightweight portable metal stand. However, I can't see how anyone else could be so excited about this contraption. It is hardly inexpensive at $100. It's some bent sheetmetal and particleboard! Assuming access to a table saw and basic skills, anyone should be able to produce a more elegant and less costly solution. A plywood box with wheels will do that very well. Better yet would be to add a door and shelves for storage. Two hours working plywood beats one hour assembling sheetmetal with all the screws, washers, nuts, wrenches, instructions, etceteras. A plywood stand could be used to store the manual, replacement knives, knife changing tools, and extension cord to name a few. Let's get realistic!
First, find a nice comfortable workspace big enough to lay this thing out. I used the back of my pickup truck bed and sliced open the top of the shipping box and left the big parts in the bottom of the box. I also had a couple of sawhorses with a sturdy flat top to hold pieces as I assembled them. Second, do yourself a big favor; get three little boxes or trays to sort the nuts, bolts, and washers into. Be careful here, there are TWO LOCK NUTS that look similar to the other nuts but have nylon inserts. Also, there is a second bag of nuts and bolts and washers inside the first bag. Keep this bag sealed and put it into one of the trays since you will use them last to bolt your planer to the stand. The next-to-the-last bolts/screws you will use are the Phillips, which is used to attach the top to the stand so you can put them aside as well. Find a clear place to stack all of the similar stand pieces. I found that finger tightening all the nuts and bolts was a smart thing to do [just in case you put the wrong piece in the wrong place] you can easily tighten everything after it is put together. I used a 13mm socket on a 6-inch extension with a 3/8 ratchet. The ½" socket the instructions ask you to use is just a little too large and may round off the nuts. The only other tool I used was a small crescent wrench and only had to use it twice. Once, with the locknut-wheel-assembly and again when attaching the stand to the roll-around wheelbase. Let's use the lock nuts first and get them out of our way. They go on two of the [four] shoulder bolts, which go through the center hole of each wheel bracket then through each of the two wheels, then onto the roll-around base. Look at the lock nut. One side shows the nylon the other side doesn't. The side that doesn't screws onto the bolt. This is where you will need your socket and another wrench. You put the wheels and brackets on the end opposite the rubber feet. Use the small carriage bolts, lock washers and nuts for the two outside holes of the bracket. Next put the foot pedal onto the roll-around base. As you look at the pedal, it has a set of holes that you will never use. Don't let them confuse you. You will use the bracket opposite the wheel itself with it's own set of holes to attach the pedal to the roll-around base. Hold the roll-around base with the rubber feet toward you and put the foot pedal inside the base [wheel down, pedal up] align the two bracket holes over the base holes and now use the last two shoulder bolts, lock washers and nuts to attach the foot pedal. You're done with the roll-around base. Put it aside and work on the stand next. Here you will use all carriage bolts, lock washers and nuts for the stand. Pick up the front-panel, the piece with the big Dewalt name on it. Put one leg on either side. All Legs Will Be On The Outside of both the two front and the two side metal panels. Finger tighten the carriage bolts, lock washers and nuts. Put the other two legs on the meal rear-panel, which is the same size as the Dewalt panel. Now attach the short metal side-panels to the legs. [The Dewalt front-panel and the rear-panel will be on top of the two side panels. [see illustration to see what I mean. See how the big panels lay on top of the shorter panels?] Next attach the two side brackets halfway down the legs on the same end as you attached the side panels. Then attach the tray to the side brackets. You're done with the stand. Now place the roll-around rack on a table [my pickup bed] where it won't get away from you [wheels to the left and rubber feet to the right] as you face it. Remove the left most carriage bolt holding the wheel bracket to the roll-around stand and the one opposite it on the other bracket. Put the stand inside the roll-around base [Dewalt panel toward you] and re-insert the wheel bracket carriage bolts and the last two carriage bolts on the other leg to the stand and you're done except for the top. Tighten every nut and bolt and then line up the top with the holes and insert the phillips bolts/screws and you're really done until you bolt the planer to the top using the sealed bag of nuts and bolts which you didn't open until now right! ... The method for affixing the turn handle to the jig is sheer folly. I've checked out the Jet tenoning jig and, as of about a year ago anyway, had a much superior design. If I had it to do over again, I would pick up the Jet or Powermatic. The deficiencies in this jig remind me of the problems with Delta's mortiser (which I thankfully steered clear of after using it in a class and noting the many problems with how Delta botched the set screw adjustments on it). Delta makes some great table saws, but some of their other tools aren't as highly rated in my book.
