5-0 out of 5 stars Great General Purpose Portable Compressor
I bought this compressor to run nail guns, air sand and spray paint. It is much more compact than other units of similar capacity. The controls are conveniently located and easy to operate. There is an on/off switch located behind the main control that will turn off the unit if you leave it plugged in. (I always unplug everything before leaving my shop.) The tank pressure gauge is just behind it.

The main panel has a working pressure gauge with a pressure adjustment knob next to it. This regulates the pressure that reaches the hoses, not the tank pressure. If you work at lower pressures, the unit will not cycle as often. It is also handy to limit the pressure to safe levels for your various air tools. The two quick connect hose couplers are located on this panel also.

You do have to "break it in" before working with it; just open the drain valve and let it run for 15 minutes. Shut it off, close the valve and turn it back on; you're ready for action! The unit really is portable, especially with the well balanced carry handle protruding from the top. I can easily carry it with one hand from the tank side.

I plug it directly into a 20 amp circuit and have had no problems with breakers popping. I wired my shop area with 12/3 to carry enough current for power tools. The unit does not stay on too long when it cycles, so the noise is not really a problem. It is not as loud as large upright compressors, but it does make a fair amount of noise, although not as much as I expected.

It will keep up with nailers and other "burst" applications without cycling too often. I use it with a Souix air sander and it does run longer when I am working. I like to take a break every minute or so to clear dust anyway, so this is not a problem. I don't think it would keep up with two continuous flow tools. Painting on furniture sized projects is no problem. If you take on a tractor trailer, get a bigger compressor.

Overall, this is an outstanding unit with few limitations for the average user. I also consider it an great value, given its capacity and well thought out design. It will be a great addition to your shop. (It will also inflate tires!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Plenty of Power to Offer...but it needs plenty, too.
This is a nice tight little machine which should have plenty of power
to run two hoses at one time, and the professional HVLP spray painting
gun I plan to use with it in my small general contracting business,
BUT, it will need the right power source. I tried the compressor on an
undedicated 15 amp circuit, and it immediately blew the switch every
time. I called Porter Cable and they admitted this 3HP motor NEEDS A
DICATED 15AMP CIRCUIT (with nothing else on the circuit to compete).
I also learned (the hard way, of course) that if you are using the
compressor with a 50' extension chord (with too high a guage) on a 20
amp circuit, the pump will not get enough electricity to pump air
after cutting-in when the tank pressure drops to 110 psi (the
specified cut-in pressure) - the pump will start pumping, but quickly
stop and you'll hear the motor straining until it blows the 20 amp
circuit, too. Porter Cable told me that if I plan to use even a 20
amp circuit with an extension chord, I need to use a 12 (preferable
    10) gauge extention chord (ideally 25' rather than 50'), or the pump
won't get enough juice to cut-in properly and refill the tanks. It's
cheaper, my new Porter Cable friends say, to buy more air hose than
the right gauge extention chord - Ah, such knowledge I'm gaining.
Sadly, the compressor arrived with an air intake filter housing badly
bent downward (done apparently at the factory, as the box from Amazon
wasn't damaged), so I couldn't remove the air filter. AND, the drain
valve (to drain water from the bottom of the tank) would not
completely close allowing lots of air to excape from the tank. In my
chats with an Amazon tool sales rep, and later with a Porter Cable
tech rep (to help me unravel the compressor's electrical-needs
mysteries), both Companies quickly and nicely insisted on sending me a
new air intake filter housing and a new drain valve (I guess I'm
getting two of each?) - no questions asked. The machine is fairly
loud, but it only takes my pump about 6 seconds to refill the tanks
from the 110 psi cut-in pressure to the specified 135 psi cut-out
pressure. I figure the noise level goes hand-in-hand with the added
power this compressor offers - power I think I need. Suggestions: the
manufacturer needs to tighten quality controls inspection of the
product prior to boxing & shipping, and the editorial reviewers
need to "call a spade a spade" in write-ups on this tool's
    power needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Impressions...
It only took 3-days for my new compressor to arrive at my doorstep! And best of all, the shipping was free! I immediately unpacked the unit and checked it over. It was in perfect condition. I followed the manufacturer's advice and went through the 15-minute break-in period leaving the tank drain valve open while the motor was running. When I shut the valve after 15-minutes of run time, it only took a few seconds to fill the twin tanks to 130 p.s.i. (~90 p.s.i. output). Although I haven't used my compressor yet, first impressions are everything. This unit is compact, relatively light weight, fairly quiet, and fills up extremely quick! I can't wait to attach my air nailer and get to work!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars look no more
175 bucks and free shipping, no brainer, buy 2 because your neighbor won't return yours when you lend it to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little air compressor
This air compressor is great! This unit is fairly quiet, compact, light enough to be toted around if needed, no oil needed and very powerful. With 5.5 CFM @ 90 PSI, there is enough power to do most jobs around the house. This unit replaced a 12 year old 15 gallons, 2 hp, craftsman rolling air compressor and all I can say is that I wish I purchased this unit sooner. It runs quieter and is definitely more powerful then the craftsman. I like the portable size too, it doesn't take up too much room. When comparing the 2 units the Porter Cable is definitely stronger, the only difference being that when you are running any tools the compressor is running almost non stop compared to a unit with a larger tank that does not have to refill as fast. I consider this a plus though, because I always drain the tank after each use and it does not take as long to release all the air. At this price range there are many choices out there for anyone looking for a compact air compressor but when you start to compare CFM ratings @ 90 PSI this one has the highest ratings. ... Here's plenty of power, whatever your pneumatic needs are, and it goes where you need it on big, rugged tires and a telescoping handle. It has enough juice to keep two nailers going at once, and its huge capacity means a lot less down time on the job. Even when it does cycle, it's ready to go back to work in about 15 seconds. The oil-lube design is a plus in our book because it'll run quieter and last longer than oil-free models. Bravo to Porter-Cable for their removable two-port console design, too. Take it to your roughest job site and have no fear—it rolls like a dream, even up and down steps. Just for safety's sake, there's a great roll bar protecting the pump and motor. 4-0 out of 5 stars way to go porter cable BEST MACHINE ON THE MARKET
this my 2nd air compressor matter fact I was building a arbor for the back yard after pressure was reached for nailgun I work over 1 hour before the compressor recycled the only problem I have had is to set the pressure on the nail gun after about 2 tries it worked perfect. I really like the idea on the removeable gauge face the compressor stay in 1 spot and 50 to 100 feet you can attact the face to a fixed object so you can save on trips back to the compressor when you need another nailgun as in replaceing the framer to finishing gun .great idea porter cable WAY TO GO PORTER CABLE

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding compressor
After using and wearing out several other compressors over the years, I have learned a thing or two about quality. While I use a couple of the DeWalt compressors in my business and am pleased, this PC is my new baby. Very quiet. Works well, as promised, on a 15amp circuit, and just generally well made. The wheels are GREAT. Removeable outlet/guage panel is a very good idea. Will easily run 2 framers unless the guys are very fast. Don't even think about buying the oil free version. The oiled units are quieter and have 3-4 times the lifespan of their oil free brothers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Performs to expectations
I purchased the porter cable model C3551 after considering the Dewalt suitcase carry model. Although the Dewalt weighed 20 pounds less, I liked the Porter Cable model that rolls. I also had reservations about the number of Dewalt suitcase models being sold as referbished.

My C3551 arrived with a defective tank pressure guage. I called Porter Cable, and they are sending me a replacement guage. According to the output regulator, the cut-off pressure was right at 150 pounds and cut-in was near 120 pounds. The manual was easy to read and follow. The break-in procedure was simple and necessary. I believe it will operate a round head nailer and roofing nailer with moderate use as stated by the manufacturer. Both meet my needs. The noise level was not excessive, and a conversation can be carried without shouting.
I am very pleased with the performance. I specifically wanted an oil lube compressor for durability, and this model fits that requirement.

The Porter Cable logo was not put on with the greatest of care, but it hardly merits any bad criticism. For handyman work or specialty trim nailing, this compressor is ideal. It is well worth the 5 star rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great design/performance, small QC problem
I bought this compressor to run Porter-Cable air nailers. The component layout is well done and compact. The regulator, cut-on/off control, and compressor are well protected. I like the single tank design better than the popular twin stack design (fewer welds to crack/leak). The handle extends out similar to that of a high-end travel luggage with wheels. The beefy tires allow it to pull over curbs, bumps, and up stairs with good ground clearance and roll-over stability. The metal plate on top is handy for storing the air hose. This will serve well for transporting the compressor to various remodeling jobs.

The compressor is quiet enough for indoor use; it doesn't drown out conversation in the same room. The first day of use, I noticed that the compressor would cycle on once every 1 1/2 hours, even with no use of the attached air nailer. Yet, there was no hissing sound from a leak. With the soapy water method, I found that the safety valve threads were leaking air, and the large threaded coupling into the main tank (under the check valve) was leaking a lot of air. After depressurizing the tank, I removed the factory compound from the threads and put on fresh joint compound (teflon tape is a no-no for air applications). After that, the compressor could hold steady for 1-2 days---no pressure drop at all. The factory joint compound looked as though it was put on too sparingly, but even then, it seems like a QC check would have found the two air leaks just by doing a pressure leak-down test.

The compressor is powerful, and rebuilds pressure for each cycle in only 10-15 seconds. At around 150 psi, the capacity is a lot --- it only cycled on 2 to 3 times a day when using a 18-gauge brad nailer. Since this compressor is oil-lubricated, it has a higher duty cycle than the oil-free version (will help when using framing nailers). The literature for this 4.4 CFM@90psi compressor rates it for only 1 framing nailer, even though similarly sized previous models with slightly less CFM@90 are rated for 2 framing nailers. I called Porter-Cable support to get an explanation. The guy provided the crucial data: A framing nailer such as FR350A only consumes 0.06 CF of air per nail. It's not the stated number of nailers that matters, it's the nail rate... 4.4/0.06 = 73 nails / minute or more for all attached nailer(s), plenty of capacity for my needs.

The tank pressure regulation is supposed to be 150psi (cut-off) and 120psi (cut-on). The indicated tank pressure was more like 145 / 115, but the manual indicates that the 150/120 spec is approximate. The deviation could be in the gauge rather than the controls. Anyway, what matters more is the accuracy and stability of the output pressure, which worked well.

The manal is well written, and its procedures (such as break-in) are very important to follow. Even though this is my first compressor, the manual is thorough enough in describing the dangers (inherent to all compressors) to make me feel comfortable using it.

The front console is easily removed (insert air hose between console and compressor), for remote regulation at tool use site.
Despite the minor air leaks that got past QC, I still give this product 5 stars for its design, performance, and oil-lube cast-iron cylinder durability .

5-0 out of 5 stars It rolls!
The only unit of its type I've found that rolls over rough terrain in a balanced fashion. Easy to move around indoors and out. Powerful motor and compressor. Have used it to run two nail guns at the same time without excessive run time. Came fully assembled and ready to run...just had to fill with oil that was included. Runs on a 15 amp electrical circuit with no problems. Heavy duty, high quality piece of equipment that runs circles around similar units I've used. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt takes a classic to a new level
As a full time contractor working alone I am always on the lookout for tools that will make the job go faster and easier. Last yearI spent many months researching a replacement for my ailing Campbell-Hausfeld oilless compressor. Originally I figured the CH had a higher air output, needed no oil changes, would work on slopes and start in cold weather. ...After forking over the big bucks and putting it to work for DeWalt's 30 Day trial period I couldn't believe I'd gone so long without this compressor. The unit has loads of features and advantages.
    1) First of all the Emglo name on the unit reassured me that I was getting a tool built by the industry leader with a great reputation for tough, dependable compressors. The first day on the job proved it with quick cycling times and ample air at all times. The unit just purrs and runs smoothly.

    2) Portability. I do a lot of work in luxury high rises and I've often left the compressor at home rather than drag it down endless corridors. This unit carries like a briefcase (a 60 pound one) with an ergonomic handle and good balance. The unit's flat design makes it easy to bungee tie to a light weight luggage carrier ...It can carry the whole unit with hoses and nail guns. I can't overemphasize how much easier this makes my job. I've paid for the compressor already in labor savings by bringing it to every trim job.

    3) Eye candy. Let's face it, this is a sexy looking unit. I've had othe craftsmen come over and ogle the compressor and ask questions about it, but mostly admiring it. Customers have commented on it, how quiet it is and how professional it looks.I am percieved as a serious craftsman based on my setup (along with my Senco SFN-40)which is good for referrals.

In short, this is a serious tool for the professional contractor with loads of power(delivered air), durability, great design and looks. DeWalt took a classic, the Emglo 790, and improved the power output layout and design. My only complaint is the air release lever, an otherwise solid unit mounted on the underside of the tank. The opening is too narrow for your hand and the sharp stream of air can actually cut your skin. In addition the compressor shoots out small chunks of ICE from the tank creating dangerous projectiles that will cut your hand or riccochet into your eye. Don't know why it does that but just beware and open the valve SLOWLY.
Finally, I have a compressor that won't roll around in the back of the truck knocking off gauges and connections as I drive through the city. Hats off to DeWalt and Emglo for a match that combines legendary durability with great design.

5-0 out of 5 stars it's too much!
This is a great compressor. It's quiet with plenty of power and the portability is great.. plus all the dials are in the right place with easy visibility... however there's the exception of one valve and a reset switch.. There's only an inch or so for clearance for the valve and I could only get to it with a screwdriver. Secondly, the reset switch is located too close to the cylinder housing and cooling system which are about as hot as the sun when the machine is running.. plus the switch itself is a little tiny.. certainly too small for the average construction guy with gorilla hands. I've one additional bad thing to say and that is that DeWalt could use some better paint to go with such a great looking compressor! there's already rust on my cylinder housing and I only purchased the unit a week ago! But overall, I would recommend it highly... namely because it's so dependable, powerful, innovative and the recovery time is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pleasure to own!

Hassle free! I've owned one of these for about a year now and couldn't be more pleased with the purchase.

The biggest complaint I have about other compressors is the portability of them. This unit, although like most, heavy, is designed well for moving from site to site. The sleek design means that parts or not going to get stuck on a pant leg when you pick it up or bash into your kneecap. I have found it most helpful to actually pick up the unit by the handle and then kinda hug the unit, holding it close to the chest. This helps to center the weight to my body and I can then lug the compressor up several flights of stairs without passing out.

The main reason I bought this unit over cheaper compressors was the recommendation to the brand names of DeWalt and Emglo. I now see why others recommend the Dewalt and Emglo brand.

It's not uncommon for someone to come on the job site and drool over this unit. Kinda funny how a guy can fall in love so fast with power tools!

If you need a great unit, this is the one to get! Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars roofer wayne
I used many compressors in 28 years of roofing. This is my 3rd emglow and 2nd dewalt. My first emglo lasted 12 years. My first dewalt is fine, I just needed another one because of expanding business. The only thing that was wrong with the first dewalt was the air regulator started leaking and had to be replaced. Other then that, it worked every day for two years so far, that with two or three roofing guns going which is like four framing guns and I did not notice it starving for air. This compressor is the best and durable for the Professional.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice small compressor
I bought this air compressor to do light construction work. I have used it for finish work all the way up to roofing and framing. I have to say that I was a little skeptical at first about using a small compressor for roofing or framing nailers but I was satisfied after the first time I used it. This compressor has impressed me more than most of my other tools. It runs smoothly and doesn't have to run that often. It recovers very quickly and is very user friendly. The controls are easy to find and use. I am able to carry it with one hand. I have ran the compressor off of 100 foot 12 gauge cord and haven't noticed any problems at all. I have a gas powered Emglo compressor and the quality is outstanding. The only downfall that I can find is that I think the power switch should be located on the front panel instead of on the side and thats just a personal preferance. Other than that it has been a really great compressor and I would recommend this compressor over any other in its class. It may cost a little more but you won't have to replace it like the other compressors. ... Read more

Where else could you get 6CFM at 90psi and 150psi operating pressure in such a compact and portable package? Price is a little high, but all of my tools (as do most all of them) have a maximum operating pressure of 125psi. And unlike the other compressors I have owned over the years, this one can actually provide enough air at 125psi to get the most out of my air tools. This is possibly the best air hose we've seen. Light polyurethane construction takes the bulk out of it, meaning easier transport, but it's super tough and will not kink or crush, no matter how you abuse it. Rubber hoses become difficult to maneuver when the temperature drops, but this one's light and flexible even in temperatures below zero. You can't see inside rubber hoses, but this one's translucent enough to let you see if you've got contaminants in the line. 4-0 out of 5 stars Light Weight, but hard working
Excellent hose, very light weight, and kink free. Also VERY durable, we ran this hose across razor-sharp wire mesh all weekend and not a single leak. Other than the price, the only complaint I have is the ease with which it tangles when coiling, but if you have a reel, this is the hose to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST AIR HOSE FOR CARPENTERS
I have used many different brands of air hose for my 20 years carpentry works. Conventional hoses are heavy and also not easy to roll after work. I bought it a year ago from Amazon. Since I have used it, I have never taken old hoses anymore. This is very durable, light and easy to handle with nail guns. Price is much higher than conventional hose, but it is worth. Excellent product!

around your feet. This light weight hose makes it easy to use your nail gun. As a finish carpenter I use my hose 5-6 days a week and this hose lays flat and stays out of your way. This product is by far the best air hose on the market today.

4-0 out of 5 stars Have compressor will travel
This is a great second compressor. I wouldn't buy this as a primary or first compressor but it works fine to support small nail guns. My other portable weighs 68 pounds and will keep up with 1 to 2 framing or roofing nailers. My shoulders ache from the number of times I have lugged it up 78 steps to a job site. This goes anywhere with a bunch of tools in the other hand.

Other than nail guns, NO it won't do much at 0.7 cu ft per min when paint spray guns need 10 times that, and a blow gun will empty the tank in 10 seconds or less. But seriously, this compressor gives me at least 10 shots from my 16 ga finish nailer before the motor kicks in; a couple more off of an 18 ga finish nailer, and as an acid test, I got 3 shots from a 3 1/4 inch framing nailer (not recommended but if all I need is 10 nails I'd rather carry this in - especially considering that my ripe old age keeps me from doing much serious hammering!)

Last word, the first one I received had a leaky reed valve and it had to be replaced by Amazon - I'm very happy with the replacement and have used it on several job sites.

4-0 out of 5 stars so far so good...
i got this because getting compressed air cans at six bucks a pop started getting expensive. i use it mainly for cleaning and drying stuff. i had a sears 2 gal compressor but that thing was way too loud and vibrates so much it would crawl around on it's own. the senco is relatively quiet. it takes twice as long as the sears unit to get up to pressure but for a light user like me it's no problem. if there's anything that i would change is that i would prefer a 2 gal tank...1 gal is kind of small. a unit this small is only really good for filling tires, cleaning or brad nailing...if you need a compressor for any other activity or tool this is probably not the unit to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars The norm for DeWalt Tools
I had a Porter Cable 4 Gal., 2H.P. Pancake compressor and just wasn't satisfied with the performance, especially since I was accustomed to the Quality and professional performance from DeWalt. The PC just wouldn't keep up with my work in my shop. I took it back and purchased the D55151 DeWalt and, of course, am satisfied again. Truly, DeWalt lives up to the advertisement, "Guaranteed Tough"! One can not go wrong purchasing this Compressor for shop or light commercial work. You may pay a little more but the quality built into every DeWalt tool I have makes it worth every penny!

5-0 out of 5 stars a home craftsman
I do various home repairs on my own home and on my rental properties. I needed a good quality air compressor for my nail guns and I purchased the Dewalt D55151. A framer friend of mine recommended the oil fil type as apposed to the oil-free version. I have had the compressor for about 2 months and so far it has performed better than I ever expected! It's great! The only drawback is that it does not come with a female hose connector, so I purchased and installed a manifold to accept 2 female connectors. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Portable
Recovery time was very good when using a framing nailer. Using a blowgun for cleaning was ok. Acceptable noise level. Used on a 100' extention cord off a 15 amp circuit, with no problems. I'm very pleased with it. Looking forward to many years of use in my shop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just plain pleased
I use this with my Paslode; 16 Gauge and Framing nailers, I hang then trim doors, sometimes rebuild sills and headers. I also do various trim/frame carpentry on other projects.

If you are worried about changing the oil its only once a year!
If you are worried about operating on a slope, i have always found a flat spot to locate it in, even roofers leave theirs on the ground, just put on more hose. Who wants to carry this up a ladder anyway?!

I would never buy an air compressor without a user serviceable airfilter!
I would never buy one of those oil less types

5-0 out of 5 stars Best compact hands down.
This bad boy will do the work of a much larger compressor. It will easily run several guns on a framing crew or even a roofing crew. The HP rating is a little misleading compared to other compressors. 2 HP isn't max , it's continuous. I have one of these (Emglo 2HP) that's been abused and used hard for several years now with no problems ,only good dependable air. I highly recommend it. If I could change one thing I would make it quieter.

    Amazon.com Review

This Porter-Cable 2-horsepower, 6-gallon pancake compressor transports easily but has plenty of capacity and power--enough to support heavy use of brad and finish nailers and moderate use of framing nailers. This is an oil-free unit, and its advanced Teflon coating doesn't require maintenance--a big plus on the convenience scale. The 120-volt universal motor starts easily in cold weather and draws only 10 amps--so you won't have to worry about tripping breakers inside residential homes--and you can use it with an extension cord. Features include a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. The compressor weighs 32 pounds and has a handle built into the motor housing, so it's relatively portable. This Porter-Cable is as convenient and easy to use as any compressor out there, and it's just about ideal for brad and finish nailers that are being used inside people's homes on a regular basis. --Jonathon Tudor ... 1-0 out of 5 stars bad compressor
I purchased a combo pack, 1 month after the warranty ran out the compressor stopped working, I took it to a locate service center , which stated motor barins where gone and it would be $240 to replace, it was cheaper to buy a new one. When I emailed porter cable , it took a long time for a response , by then i had bought a new ( different make)compressor. they build them so you have to buy more parts then you need. Look a different model.

5-0 out of 5 stars Once pneumatic, you never go back
The Porter-Cable 2HP 6-gallon pancake compressor is a reasonably powerful and reasonably portable air compressor. I think it's the perfect machine for the somewhat-serious do-it-yourselfer (like me). I only recently purchased one but I am already sold on pneumatic tools, which the PC 6-gallon compressor operates surprisingly well. Although many pneumatic tools, such as air hammers, drills, and sanders, consume quite a bit of air (generally in the neighborhood of 5 CFM at 90 PSI), I have found that my PC compressor does just fine with its modest 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI. Unless you need to operate the tools continuously for long periods, the 6-gallon tank provides sufficient ballast to keep them happily buzzing and spinning at full power. My one complaint is that the motor and compressor are a bit louder than I expected. Then again, the noise of the compressor is hardly noticeable above the din of an air hammer, so I'm not sure it really matters.

If you enjoy using power tools and you have not yet experienced the pleasures of pneumatic gizmos, you should consider purchasing a small but serious compressor like the PC 2HP 6-gallon pancake. It's truly amazing how versatile compressed air is; basically any tool that runs on electricity also comes in a pneumatic version (well, except for arc welders). And, in my admittedly novice opinion, the pneumatic versions have many advantages; they are more durable (with surprisingly few moving parts), often cheaper, and usually more powerful than their electric counterparts. It makes so much sense to have all your tools share one powerful motor instead of replicating motors endlessly; that is, if you can part with your cordless tools.

But be warned! If you take the plunge into pneumatic tools, there is an endless stream of items you will find yourself purchasing: air tool lubricants and cleaning kits, in-line oilers, air hoses and gauges, quick connectors, air filters, oil-water separators, Teflon tape, universal air hose joints, air manifolds, blowguns with assorted nozzles, etc. You'll also find yourself eyeing things like sandblasters and 12-ton jacks, even if you have nothing to blast or lift. (Okay, maybe that's just me.)

One odd thing I've noticed is that the PC 6-gallon compressor is virtually identical to the Craftsman 6-gallon compressor, right down to the paint job. I'm not sure who copied who, but I can't help thinking that a good design is worth copying. Either way, the PC version (and presumably the Craftsman as well) is an efficient and mature design. It's a great way to get acquainted with pneumatic tools. Get yourself one, and let the fun begin!

4-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable CPFAC2600P Compressor
Pro: Great little compressor for mobile and small shop use. I use it very often to run air nailers for doing molding on the house and back out to the garage to run a paint/finish sprayer. Plenty of power at 150 psi
Con: Runs a little to often
    Overall happy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good Specialized Compressor
This compressor is great for what it was designed for. And, that was an intermittant duty compressor for single nail gun operation. To keep this units weight down which provides great transportablity, a universal brush motor was used. Now this kind of motor is very powerful for its size and weight, but it cannot match the heavier and larger brush free induction motors of larger compressors. Period. If you take the time to read the manual that comes with it, this fact is well pointed out. So, if you want to run a few big frame nailers and maybe an impact wrench now and then to fix your service truck or car, look beyond this unit. I use this compressor with great satisfaction running some trim and 15 gauge nailers. Not much of a challenge and well within the duty cycle of the brush motor. Now, brushes wear down and eventually need replacement, so be aware of this too. If you are handy with electrical devices, fine, save money and do it yourself. If rewiring your wifes toaster brings on a cold sweat, you will need to bring this compressor to an authorized service center as well as your bank card. The compressor is oil less, so along with less maintanance, less mess on wood work and so on will be realized. The unit is very light weight so if your in your fifties like I am, you won't have to wait on younger members of your crew to carry it for you, so in that respect your pride is protected as well. I really like the rubber hose connecting the compressor section from the tank. Most use copper tubing, which over time will work harden, break or leak. The hose should last the life of the compressor which will be quite a long time if you use the unit within its stated design parameters.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good, all purpose compressor
I've used my compressor for almost a year now, and it has performed flawlessly. It is light, easy to move and can sit on any surface. I power a Porter-Cable framing gun, a Porter-Cable roofing gun and and a Porter-Cable finish nailer with it, and can't say enough about it as a do-it-yourselfer's product. It has more than enough power to do the job I ask of it. I think it is a great buy foy the money and highly recommend it. ... Read more

It looks great and sounds even better, even above the din of nailers, compressors and saws. But it's not just a radio: The DeWalt DC011 also charges 7.2-volt through 18-volt DeWalt batteries in an hour and plays up to eight hours from a single DeWalt battery if electricity is not available. The radio is AM/FM with a digital tuner, and an auxiliary port lets you plug in a CD player. A convenient case on the radio's side lets your store your CDs, safe and clean. It's tough enough for the jobsite, too, wearing a rugged, high-impact roll cage, steel speaker grills, and weather-resistant body. Here's a compressor ready for the job site with the professional contractor. The oil-lubricated pump with cast iron cylinder gives you four cubic feet per minute at 90 psi, enough to run multiple tools off the dual universal couplers. It draws low amps, too, great for job-site conditions. The panel is protected between the two tanks, a feature we really like, and features large, easy-to-read gauges for tank pressure and regulated pressure, as well as the regulator and the two quick couplers. We like the ball-type tank drain design, too, as well as the roll bars that surround and protect the 2.7 horsepower motor. Another nice touch is the pegged wrap area for the power cord. The handle offers a well-balanced haul, and it's light enough for easy portability at 65 pounds. But don't let that fool you--this is one reliable workhorse.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hitachi's Dependable Compressor
I chose the Hitachi three years ago because it has a fine compressor and motor, solid construction, and overall good design. It has been entirely reliable and three years later I still am using it both in my cabinet shop and on the job for residential remodeling. The only significant design flaw is the position of the gauges. They are subject to being knocked off. I found this out the hard way one day when I had to slam on the brakes in my van and a sliding tool box sheared one of them off. Despite this one flaw I would still by another Hitachi in a heart beat. The Hitachi is not only reliable, but, unlike many compressors, it truly works on 15 amps. This compressor has never blown a fuse on me, which is something of a miracle considering the wiring in many of the older homes I remodel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impressive compressor
I am impressed with many things about this hitachi compressor. It is very well built, except that the guages do seem very fragile, however, just about all of the compressors on the market have fragile guages. I think more of the problem with the gauges is that they are not protected as well, which makes them more prone to being broken while carrying around. I can fire around 20-25 15 guage finish nails before it has to recycle. It maintains pressure accurately between 100-125 psi. The only problem I have had is the pressure regulator. The regulator does not seem to decrease pressure very well when needed. Turning the pressure regulator knob counter-clockwise just doens'nt seem to engage in pressure reduction. And because of this, I sometimes have to conncect a blow gun while turning the pressure regulator counter-clocwise. This will result in 0psi at the regulator. Then it is no problem to increase pressure at the regulator. I think that this part may be defective and plan on contacting Hitachi. The oil lubed compressors are more durable over the oil free ones. The unit is also much quiter than I expected. Overall, this seems like a very good unit that has a history of proven reliability that is quite and easy to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Compressor great, regulator bad
This compressor is a great value. It has a quality oil lubricated motor and is competitively priced with "oil-less" compressors of similar size and capacity. It works great with my various small air tools (palm nailer, impact wrench, etc). My only complaint: After a few hours of light use, the regulator dial became very hard to turn, and eventually stopped working altogether. I dismantled it and found that the dial threads had stripped. I replaced the regulator with an inexpensive AmFlo model purchased at Lowes, and am much happier with the new one -- easier to adjust, more precise, and more accurate. If Hitachi included a better regulator, they would have a 5 star product.

4-0 out of 5 stars EC12 Cold Start Problems
The Hitachi EC12 is a very solid contractor compressor. However, like most units that fall in this category, it often has difficulty starting. Starting related issues stem from cold weather, voltage drop across an extension cord or the use of multiple tools. While these problems occur across the board among compressor manufacturers, there is a product that helps eliminate the issue. Called the Smart Start by Conrader it replaces the standard inlet filter of the compressor. Essentially, it delays compression and allows the motor to reach full speed before encountering a load. 5-0 out of 5 stars Bob, a home improvement enthusiast
I have owned this compressor for 3 years now and it continues to run flawlessly. I agree that the gauges are mounted in an area where they can be easily damaged but if you take care when using and transporting the compressor, you won't have any problems. Change the oil regularly and this beauty will last a very long tme. ... Read more
