Thermodynamics
Just a note for anyone shopping for a portable air conditioner:every air conditioner requires the hot air to be vented to the outside.You're removing heat from the air, and it has to go somewhere.

Not very portable
I assumed when i bought this product that it was portable in that I could put the unit anywhere in the room.I was surprised to find out that it had an exhaust tube 5 inches in diameter that is supposed to attach to a window or a hole in the wall.So my question is why is it called a portable if it always needs to be attached to a window or a hole in the wall?I guess it works fine, but so does a smaller window air conditioner and that wont set you back almost $500.Note, shipping was about $90.

Seems fine so far . . .
After tiring of the look of window air conditioners and still lacking enthusiasm for whole-house unit, we settled on Sunpentown WA-1210E to cool west-facing living room.Long term plan was to replace all window units with portables, if this particular unit worked out.So far so good...

The unit looks goods.Semi-european design that, though not tiny, tucks away neatly during off-season.Controls are easy to use.And, so far, we have not had to empty condensate.(I assume we will never have to).

Cooling seems adequate for 400 sq foot room.Sound levels are reasonable.I would not call it noisy nor perfectly quiet.

Though this unit has been cancelled in favor of more powerful ones, we've been pleased enough so far to consider buy a few more on sale. ... Read more

Quietest 5000 BTU a/c I've encountered
I bought this unit in, I believe, 2001. OK, it is not "noisefree". However, compared to other units I have used (Goldstar, Maytag, Haier), it is MUCH quieter. The Goldstar is a lousy 2-piece design that never stops rattling. The Maytag--the loudest compressor I've ever heard. The Haier was pretty good, easily half as quiet as the Maytag (both were priced around $79). However, the Sharp was probably half as loud as even the Haier. It is pricier, though. But if you want a relatively quiet 5000BTU unit, I think this is a good one to get.

DeLonghi Air Products in General
We've had the model, 250, 260 and now the 360 (as a warrantied replacement for the 260). If we weren't so desperate, we'd not have bought this product. The 1st one we ever got worked pretty well for about 3 years/hot seasons, but the 2nd, 3rd (haven't tried the 4th one yet) leaked like crazy and shut off, when as the other review said, the hose was installed as directed.If you have money to burn, this product is fine....

Not Happy
I did order the PAC-360 and was disappointed.Now, this may all be due to a defective unit, or not.

I got the unit for my basement office and the exhaust hose didn't reach.I was able to fashion an extension with a dryer exhaust hose. Well, after hooking everything up and venting the hose thru my basement window, it came to life.It takes about 5 to 10 min. to start cooling.Also, you'll need to fill an internal tank with water to get max cooling.Note, the instructions state that you'll need to fill up the water tank every 7-8 hours for max effect.Now, after running for 15 minutes the alert light flashes and the Delonghi goes into Fan only mode.The manual reports there is an obstruction in the exhaust hose.No way.Checked it 5 times and all is clear.

Well, I might have a bad unit that can be replaced, but I'm going to return it.For the price, I expected better.The controls are cheap push buttons and not the electronic ones you find all most all a/c now-a-days.Also, when the compressor kicks in, it�s really loud.For the price of this unit, I don�t think it's worth it

Gorgeous looking addition to room, but weak cooling ability
If only this gorgeous looking air conditioner could really cool a room!! I am so in love with the stunning sleek design and shiny bright white color. Very simple and professional looking. Sturdy build. Not cheap looking, like others I have seen at Home Depot and Sam's Club.

I bought this for my apartment. It has 8500 BTU. I planned to use it in the living room (13x15 or 208 square feet) during the day, and then the bedroom at night (a bit smaller). I opened the package immediately the night I brought it home, but once I turned the power on for the first time, I was surprised that high power, turned to be little more than a feeble blowing of air. This weak fan, does not allow any of the cold air to actually push out of the unit and cool the room!!! Even if you stood 2 feet from it, it barely blew on you!!! Who would engineer such a thing?

The real test was the next day, when temperatures outside soared to 93 degrees. My unit could not manage to make the room cooler than 88 degrees for the entire day! I decided to give it another day (maybe it need to be broken in, I thought), but again it was did the same thing.

So disappointing that such a sleek looking and digital panneled portable a/c could disappoint like this. I read the entire manual, hooked it up properly and even called the company, Kenwood. Kenwood didn't really care. They told me it is discontinued and to just return it!!

With all the terribly ugly looking portable units out there, I had really wanted this to be my new a/c, but I will have to look elsewhere, and this time for something having perhaps 12000 BTU and a fan that blows like a tornado! Please, someone, design a beautiful looking portable a/c for far under $600 that works! What a pain. I hate the thought of lugging this 80 plus pound machine back to the store.

Kenwood air conditioner
I bought this unit as an open box buy. It cools off 4 rooms wonderfully. I was happy to be able to download the manual off of amazon's website.

I have not been happy with Kenwood's customer service. I had contacted Kenwood several times via email in order to order parts that were missing (because I bought it as an open box item) and to receive a manual but had no success. My husband ended up making the window accessory that was missing and I ended up downloading the manual from amazon.com.

Great Deal for Refurbished
I generally shy away from reconditioned products however this deal seemed too good to pass up. I have this portable in my house and it is like an arctic freezer now. I love it.

This thing really works. I have a lot of computer equipment in my room, which needs to stay cool at all times. I have never had one problem since I installed this portable AC.
