5-0 out of 5 stars Pure power
I purchased this Bosch grinder through Amazon.com to tuck point brick work. Received the tool in one week with free shipping. The paddle switch is a safe feature. When you release the paddle it stops. I found it to be very powerfull and it has absolutely no hesitation. Pure power!
I installed a dry diamond blade for cutting brick - cut like butter with a hot knife. Installed a 4 1/2" diamond tuck point wheel and removed a mortar joint 35" wide in seconds. Highly recommend this tool if your looking for a good grinder. Well worth the money for the safety & power it delivers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch-Build to Last
This is extremely well-designed, well-built, and heavy duty. No complaints here. Don't hesitate--buy this tool you'll be glad to did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Grinder for the Metal shop
I own two other 4 1/2 inch grinders besides this one. My Made in China $24 grinder that I was using with a cupped wire brush finally bit the dust. I went looking for Quality this time around and wanted to purchase Made in USA. But this Bosch won out, over a Dewalt, because it was the only one that was a "true" all ball / needle bearing construction. It has lots of power and the paddle switch saved my bacon when on a trial run using a metal cutting disk, the disk caught and shattered (I AWAYS wear safety glasses and gloves when grinding). On my other grinders with a thumb switch... that 1/2 second to find the switch & flip it off... would have been too long. Draw backs, the grinder seems to have more vibration and noise than my 8 year old, Made in Japan Ryobi, not to be confused with the new Ryobi, Made in China! Bill G.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Little Grinder
Kinda hard to get worked up about an angle grinder--their loud, dirty and smelly. Based on my success with other Bosch tools I purchased this one. It works very well. Appears durable, has a quality metal shield, simple wheel changes, easy on/off and lock switch. I like it. Probably couldn't go wrong with Yellow, Gray, Red or Green versions, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tough and Versatile
This is a fine quality tool, it works flawlessly. I originally bought this tool to cut ceramic tile (which worked great), but I found so many other uses for it such as grinding fiberglass on my brother's boat, cut out steel window frames, and to remove glue and wood residue on concrete before screwing in a subfloor. The grinder is small enough to fit in most tight places and light enough to hold over head for long periods of time. This is one of my most heavily used power tools and it's still going strong! I have to say Bosch makes the best tools that last forever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This tool has made a Milwaukee devotee out of me
The offroad club that I lead (Longhorn Offroad), has been building an RTI ramp recently out of 1/4" box steel. For the uninitiated, an RTI, or Rate of Travel Index ramp, measures how much wheel travel a particular vehicle has. We've been using a stick welder, chop saw, and two angle grinders to build this beast.

I'd been eyeing this grinder for quite awhile, and when we got sick of having to switch from grinding to polishing wheels on my friend's DeWalt, I picked one up. Milwaukee has a great tool in this little grinder. It can flatten down a weld in about half the time of the DeWalt. With the cutting wheel, I can cut through steel faster than the chop saw. It can also cut through automotive frame rails without a second thought.

My favorite thing about this grinder is the trigger action. The DeWalt's was slightly awkward and located a bit too near the wheel for my taste. The Milwaukee's is larger and easier to work with gloves. It also allowed for better balance and thus easier operation of the tool.

If you're doing woodwork or anything delicate, I'd steer clear of this machine. If you do regular automotive modification or any heavy metalwork, however, pick up one of these. It is a wonderful tool for everything from cutting off bolts, to grinding welds, to even cutting through fully boxed steel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee 6154-20
Very comfortable could not bog it down with pressure when grinding. have owned several other top brand grinders and really liked the Dewalt. This has much more power and can be used for longer periods of time without hand fatigue. The power is impressive. It doesn't rev as quickly as the others though.

3-0 out of 5 stars size is everything
I have had great service from every milwaukee tool I've purchased over the years and this one is equally well thoughtout and constructed. I do have some reservations about this one. It is in no way a "mini-grinder" and if that is the size of tool you need for your application .... don't choose this one. In the world of 'bigger is better' and 'one-tool-can do all'consumerism this one fits right in. I've been in fabrication and construction for many years and it is a waste of your cash to try to make one tool do it all. what this tool is great for is metal fabrication or sculpting (stone), it is too heavy for wood and if you already own a 7" grinder/polisher why duplicate your tools? It is too heavy for intricate work and too large for tight places. I will use it in my scuplting and for foundation work and beams. If you're a carpenter I can't recommend it, try Bosch or milwaukee's smaller grinders. Better yet don't buy the tool online until you've talked with someone who has used that particular tool. I would not buy this tool again for the applications I had in mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars More power arr arr arr !
When I saw they increased the amperage rating to 12 , I just had to have one . I was not disappointed. This little beast screams. It does get pretty warm though ,if you dial the speed down and put a heavy load on it. Its really nice to have so much power on hand in such a compact size. It blows the other mini's away! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The third and best grinder
I had the opportunity to get myself in deep (up to my ears) in a welding project and needed a grinder. Well as it turns out this is the third grinder I have had to buy and it is by far the best. My first grinder was a cheap chinese unit that SCREAMED loudly and didn't last. The second unit was a Ryobi unit available from your local home improvement center, quiet and smooth but with a fatal flaw that was a consant problem, when you set it down it hits the power switch and turns on momentarily flying all over the place, at 10000 RPM this is a problem. The switch failed mercifully and I gladly threw it away. This Ryobi angle grinder did not last very long, another Made in China wonder. Speaking of switches that brings us back to the Dewalt unit which has a safety latch on the switch, that works very well. It's quiet, safe, and made in America. Oh by the way, ALLWAYS use ear and eye protection when grinding and cutting metal! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Many Milwaukee tools are good, but maybe not this one
I had a few bad experiences with this particular tool:

1)The first one I bought was leaking oil from its gear case, so back I go to the store to exchange it for another one. I'm not too upset yet.

2)The exchanged one is not leaking oil and looks fine, until I try to use the enclosed spanner wrench to lock a grinding wheel to the spindle. It turns out that the spanner wrench does not fit the spindle, so back I go to the store to find the spanner wrench from the grinder I had just returned. The spanner wrench from the first grinder is fine so I exchange it for the defective one from the second grinder. I'm getting a little upset at this point since I effectively have had two defective units in a row.

3)That night I use the grinder to cut through two small metal pipes, with the enclosed metal-cutting 1/4" wheel. Works well, but at some point I want to change wheels and find that I can't, because the wheel and locking nut have tightened themselves so much that the awkward spanning wrench cannot loosen the nut. The wrench bends (with my hand pressure!) and at this point I am so frustrated and afraid of breaking the whole unit by using any other tool to loosen the wheel, that I return to the store a third time, this time to return the unit altogether.

I will not buy another one with this wheel locking arrangement and crappy wrench.

5-0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee Rocks...OK, it Grinds
I used my 6148-6 sander grinder with a wire brush to clean rust off a mower deck. The tool had plenty of power. Two features that I particularly liked (besides the power): the three position extra handle. At one point, it was too awkward to get at the deck with the handle to either side, but being able to work with it atop of the grinder, was great. Second, the safety paddle switch was a real plus. Having used another grinder without the switch, I used to worry about dropping the tool and have it continue to operate. The Milwaukee paddle/safety was unobtrusive and effective. Great tool. Don't forget your eye, ear and respiratory protection. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where is the UL seal?
This is an excelent grinder. I delayed getting it because I could not determine why it was not UL listed. I have two other grinders... a top of the line Sears Craftsman and Dewalt's best model... it's easier to have three grinders than to be changing attachments all the time. I didn't want to by a third top of the line unit. This one is comfortable, powerful, and the power switch is in a logical location and is easy to turn off quickly... beware some other low-priced (non-UL) grinders have a very clumsy switch which could be difficult to ulock and turn off in an emergency. I have not been able to determine why this one is not UL listed... I called B&D and they gave me the run-around... I bought the grinder anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use
The Black and Decker G850 is a breeze to use. I needed a grinder for a project and spent more time then I should have looking for one at a good price and that would meet my needs. I actually took a chance on this grinder. I have used other small angle grinders at work,,but this one was much easier to handle. I could grip it at the center,,near the top or about anywhere and the balance was great. Sure makes it easy on the arms. I also like the area were the switch is at, toward the rear, under the handle. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for smaller hands
I really like this grinder. I am a professional tilesetter, and it has always worked great for me. It is lighter and smaller in circumference than the Dewalt, and the locking "on" switch saves my hand from getting tired. I have found it is very durable, too. The only thing I do not care for is that you have to manually remove the blades; it has no quick change system. I suppose that's my fault for not spending the bucks for that feature, though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after less than 20 hours ...
I really can't recommend this product. I had hoped that something that said "Makita" on it would be a quality product, but they must have gone downhill since my dad used them (admittedly, this was at least 20-25 years ago.) My primary use for this was/is as a masonry grinder, grinding out old grout and/or cement for re-pointing. The location of the air intake at the front of the machine guarantees that it will suck in a *lot* of dust, and this ultimately led to the demise of the grinder. For metal grinding it might be okay, but not for anything of a silicaceous nature. It was absolutely burned out. I bought a DeWalt today ... Hopefully it will last longer ...

3-0 out of 5 stars Sparks will fly
This would probably be a perfect tool for the hobbyist or weekend entusiast. With professional use you can expect it to last half as long as tools which cost twice as much, which seems fair. Its light weight will be appreciated when doing grinding in awkward or overhead areas. I rated it three stars because of the funny spindle size; in my area everyone stocks 5/8-11 and other sizes are hard to find. Don't expect greatness, but Makita is still a reputable company. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars HIGH QUALITY
This is a fine quality tool that's not afraid to work hard or get dirty.During a recent roofing job while installing some flashing. I used my grinder with a masonry blade to slot the chimney. It worked flawlessly. With it's small size and 3 position handle you can really get into some tight spots.Add the switch lock and the spindle lock and you've got a real winner. My yellow grinder is now orange from the brick dust but,it's not complaining.I do recommend this tool it's works as hard as you do. Now get out there and grind away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb tool, thoroughly pleased
This is yet another tool I purchased from Amazon.com that I have been completely happy with. The price was great, along with no shipping and tax, and fast delivery again made it a pleasure to buy from Amazon. Now on to the tool. I bought it about six weeks ago and have put it to heavy use. Cleaning rust, grinding welds, sanding fiberglass and metal. The tool has been used for hours at a time, sometimes non stop for 20 minutes or more. It is light and small enough to get into tight spots, but it has plenty of power. It is very noisy as all these grinders are, so wear ear protection and safety glasses. My only problem is that Amazon lists this tool as being USA made, but it is actually made in Mexico. This was disappointing to see when I got it, but then again few tools are USA made now a days anyway. Remember to buy quality grinding, sanding, and wire wheels as you do not want a cheap one spinning at 10,000 RPM being out of balance, flying apart and right into you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Noisy
I bought this grinder because my 30 year old Craftsman 7/9" grinder/polisher's switch went bad. I figured it was time to add a small grinder to my list of tools. The tool works great, but it is VERY LOUD/NOISY, sounds like the gears are going to fall out. The switch takes some getting use to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
This is one of two small grinders that I own. I also have the Makita 9527PB. I really like the feel of the DeWalt in my hand, and find the paddle switch to be a bit better to control versus the Makita. I do like both tools, lots of power & quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars tuff little bugger
This is the best 4 inch grinder on the market. Although its not a large industrial tool I've used this grinder at a bronze foundry for the past 4 years with no problems. I've seen craftman and dewalt burn out in a matter of weeks and my little makita has survived through years of heavy commercial use. It is comfortable to hold not to heavy and the on off switch is in a nice convenient, and in a safe spot. I recommend this tool to anyone who is looking for a dependable small grinder.

2-0 out of 5 stars Accessories hard to find
I've owned mine for about 4 years and am content with the power, performance and price. However, this grinder uses a smaller mounting shaft than the incrementally larger 4 1/2" grinders. I am finding that accessories like wire brushes and such are getting more and more scarce in store shelves. Home Depot, which sells this grinder, did not have any brushes for this tool when I recently visited. If you're only going to use grinding wheels, you can probably find them easily enough. I believe the small size of this tool also limits the maximum diameter of wheels and brushes. You can certainly save a nickel by getting this one, but unless you are on a super-tight budget, get a 4 1/2" version.

One positive on this tool: if I'm not mistaken, it is designed to be used with AC and DC power, so you can run it off of a generator.

1-0 out of 5 stars Burnt Out
This grinder worked fine with a four inch tile blade to make hand cuts on ceramic tile and slate.I used it with a segmented blade to chase a hairline crack on a concrete floor I was preping to tile and it burnt out after about four linear feet.I would not recomend it for anything but light duty use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice tool for the money
I like to have a little more versatility in my tools but for the same price as a Skil grinder you can have the quality name of Makita. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great machine
I used an old Skil saw to cut brick and block, but after finally melting the internals beyond repair I was forced to look for an alternative.
