Can't jump a dead battery
The Coleman Powermate Jumpstart System does everything is says it can except jumpstart a dead battery.And I mean a battery that has been drained down to just a clicking sound when you crank the car or boat.Though it doesn't state it in the manual, a call to Coleman's customer service verified that the positive and negative booster clamps will not allow ANY voltage to flow through unless it senses a good amount of life in the dead battery.
When you attach the cables to the dead battery the Jumpstart will remain shut off until enough amperage/voltage is sent from the dead battery to the Jumpstart.Then, and only then, will the reverse polarity light turn on, allowing you to send power back to the dead battery.I can't figure out (and Coleman doesn't know) how much voltage the Jumpstart has to sense in the dead battery before it will wake up and do its thing.After two separate attempts at starting two boats with dead batteries (cabin lights left on all night)I finally figured this out.So what's the point in owning this if it can only jump a battery that is just LOW on voltage and not DEAD?!
