WORKS WELL WITH SJOBERG BENCH
One free holdfast was included when I purchased the Sjoberg bench. Like the product review states, this is made especially for the bench. I can't see any reason for someone to get this if they don't have a Sjoberg bench.

Very useful for a woodworker!
Pretty simple concept -- two clamps, one clamps the unit onto your work bench, the other clamps your work piece(s). Excellent quality of workmanship. Once you get the hang of it, opening and locking the jaws are real easy. Only complaint is that I wish the work piece jaws are taller (or maybe larger jaw fit-ons), so it would grip face frames better.

Intuitive
A true friend for production work. If you need a tool that will save you time when installing siding/sheathing or any 4x8 dimensional lumber, the 8 FTR and 4 FTR is is the tool. Of course you could buy a panel cutter, but that will cost alot more and will be more cumbersome to move to the jobsite. In addition, the back to back clamps are an excellent idea! You get what you want to pay for here! I own 11 various sizes of these clamps. As a consequence, my bar clamps are only used when I need an enormous amount of clamping pressure such as glueing up large projects. The Back to Back clamps could be used here but I don't want glue dripping all over them and I think that you get better compression with Pony Bar clamps.

your third hand at woodworking
I have had the TRU-GRIP 36 inch back to back bench clamp for more than a year now, it's my third hand. My workbench does'nt have a vise or other clamping mechanisms, so I just clamp it across my workbench and clamp my work on the top securely. I can now rout dado's,sand project pieces' and woodworking jobs that need to be held securely in place. The 36 inch clamp is also long enough to use as a straight edge for some crosscut's and rip cut's with your router or circular saw and it still doubles as a clamp unlike toolguides that just clamp across your workpiece. I have also used it as a fence for my bandsaw, and I'am still coming up with uses. The bad thing is the price, or I would have a few more for more holding ability, and gluing up panels . ... I like it!
I found the vise to be well made and with excellent gripping power. i've already purchased an additional base and the "workmate" workbench attachment. Paid less than four bucks each at home depot.

Sturdy and portable
....This vice is lightweight and easy to carry to the job site, yet is strong enough to hold anything I throw at it. Even if you are not using the vice attached to a Workmate bench it is worthwhile. I don't understand the reviewers who are not happy because they cannot get the Workmate mount. They must not be professionals. In my case I am rarely anywhere near a job without my trusty cordless screw gun on my belt like a Texas Ranger, or at least near by. Quickly screwing things in and out is second nature. Screwing the mount to a work surface and then removing it later is no big deal for me. So, while I also have the Workmate attachment, I find the vice plenty useful even without it. You should never go near work without your cordless drill people. With or without this vice.

I did, however, make allowance for the mounting situation in the star rating. I gave it 4 stars simply because I do agree that the packaging is misleading. One could easily have construed without closely inspecting the package that the Workmate mount came with it. So I dinged the manufacturer 1 star for the packaging.

But all and all, this is a great vice if you need to have clamping power and you don't want to be hauling something around that weighs like an anvil. Beep Beep!

Nice marketing...
Don't buy this if you are thinking you are purchasing a "portable vise". Although the product is called the QUICK-VISE Portable Vise, the packaging is very deceiving. I bought this product thinking I could "use it anywhere" like it says on the box. You certainly can use it anywhere so long as you are willing to use 4 screws to keep it in place.

However, there is an accessory (that they conveniently put a picture of on the packaging) that makes the vise "even more" portable. But be sure to read the fine print, as the QUICK-VISE Portable Workbench Attachment, as it is called, is not included. I purchased the accessory, thinking that it would solve my problem (it didn't).

Unfortunately, the accessory only allows you more freedom of placement so long as you either: (a) use it with the Black & Decker Workmate Workbench or (b) drill 3/4" holes in your bench.

great for its intended purpose
The Quick-Vise portable vise is a great light-to-medium duty vise. It is not meant to be used as a machinist's vise, but it works well for woodworking and other do-it-yourself projects. The vise is very quick and easy to use, and it holds well. The non-maring jaws are a real plus for woodworkers. To make full use of the flexibility of the Quick-Vise, buy additional bases as needed. Although a number of other reviewers seem unaware of it, auxiliary bases are inexpensive, and readily available at Amazon.com.

misinformation
I bought this with my workmate, on the box it came in shows two bases one standard and the other so you can attach it to your workmate. Looking at the box it seem to say it isn't standard, so I figured that the base it came with can be attached to the workmate was included, it isn't.
Another problem is that I can't find anywhere to buy the other base so it can be attached to the workmate.

Good for jewelry work
I am very pleased with how well this little vise works. I make silver jewelry and this was one of the few vises I have found with smooth clamp faces. I use it to draw wire, make bends and hold pieces for detail work. It is solid enough for some heavy hammering-on, and the screw is precise and smooth in operation. A very well-made tool.
