5-0 out of 5 stars A Bit Agressive
I wouldn't start a drywalling job without this bit tucked into the storage handle of my Rotozip Rebel. It's bigger than the standard guidepoint bits, but then it does bigger jobs. Just remember to travel clockwise around the window or door opening, and this bit does all the rest. It quickly produces clean, smooth, accurate cuts without wandering all over the place. The secret is to have the depth set just right; not to shallow, so the guidepoint tip provides steadiness, and not too deep, so the bit doesn't cut into the studs. No drywaller should be without this bit. Thanks, Amazon!

Amazon.com Review

The Black & Decker ZipSaw multi-project tool is really several tools in one. As a jigsaw, the ZipSaw produces a 3/4-inch stroke that cuts through wood, metal, plastic, carpet, linoleum, and cardboard. The tool can also be used as a sander/polisher to remove rust and paint, polish surfaces, and sand in tight spaces. It accomplishes this transformation through the use of various, easy-to-change accessories that lock into place with the click of a button. The shoe can also be removed without tools in order to attach the circle and edge guide, an accessory designed for cutting circles and ripping without a pencil line. A variable-speed trigger and adjustable speed dial allow the ZipSaw to operate at a range of 1,000-3,200 spm. The speed dial has six numbered settings but can be adjusted to any position along the way for total speed control. The ZipSaw also works well in tight spaces other tools can’t always reach. A lightweight, ergonomic design gives it a very comfortable feel and allows it to be used both vertically and horizontally for even greater versatility.--Carl Thress ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Black & Decker has done it again!!
I have used my Zipsaw to cut 2X and 1X material along with plastic sheet material and it works great! It has awesome power and the control for the user is out of this world.

Thanks again Black and Decker!

5-0 out of 5 stars Black and Decker put the zip in Zipsaw
I thought the unit worked great! I was able to cut 2x material in a very tight area with no problem. I loved the quick blade change and the variable speed gave me better control over my work piece. Overall I felt the tool was great for the job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Black and Decker put the Zip in Zipsaw
The unit had plenty of power to do the job. I was able to cut 2x material in a very confined area with no problem. I think the unit ran great and changing the blade was a snap. I also found the variable speed to be very helpful.

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected a lot but this tool doesn't deliver
The Zipsaw is a great idea. Unfortunately, this tool is under powered and struggles to complete most medium duty tasks. I found the Zipsaw useful for hobby projects like cutting balsa wood, cardboard light guage plastic etc.

My other two problems with this tool are no.1 it is way too loud and no.2 it gets too hot during use.

Clever idea but disapointing quality and performance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a drywall must have
If you have ever hung drywall you will be thankful for this tool. Cuts every bit as good as a rotozip.

3-0 out of 5 stars some smoke, but no mirrors
a WONDERFUL tool, leave it to PC to come up with an improvement on someone else's idea. a great addition to my PC collection, however......... will someone enlighten me as to how the tile bit is supposed to work? All I get is melted glazing and tool-bits from heat and no cutting. 2 bits worn out trying to cut through 4" of ceramic wall tile isn't what I'd call a wonderful thing, could do that much with my sawzall and a carbide blade or a pizza slicer as far as it goes. Plaster was as easy as drywall! 1/4" luan plywood just burned, however. Do we need better instructions (since I'm apparently an idiot with a 121 IQ), or less hype and BS as it concerns what a tool will and won't do. I would have expected this from B&D.

5-0 out of 5 stars tool worth its weight in gold
I bought this recently to speed up production of drywall installation. Much to my suprise and satisfaction this tool increased producttivity and accuracey two fold. Never the less , only recently did I learn the true vale of this tool as it became a lost in a jobsite fire. It wouldbe the first tool tobe listed on the insurance claim, as well as replaced. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Shoddy tool
I could not wait to get my Rotozip. My family had presented it to me as a gift.
My switch broke after hour two and the Zip Mate attachment after day two. The wheels are fine and work on other tools and the spiral bit is very effective. The motor still works but now the head is jammed and does not come off. Service is somewhat confusing. A call to the 1-800 number tells me the Zipmate is replaceable but how does one get it off? They suggest sending it to Black and Decker for service; I am confused? Bottom line is try another vendor. This may work for the craft set but it is not as serious a tool as TV leads one to believe.

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED
My solaris broke after using it two times. The first time was to drill two holes in drywall. The second time was to clean out tile joints for grouting. I wouldn't recommend buying one.

1-0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTED
My solaris broke down the second time I used it. It may be OK for a toy but not for a serious tool. Save your money try something else.

Amazon.com Review

If you ever watch television, chances are you've seen at least one infomercial for the Rotozip spiral saw. Although Rotozip began as the original power drywall cutter, the tool line has grown and expanded, and today's Rotozip claims to be "the most versatile tool you can own." Here at Amazon.com, sales of this Rotozip combo kit have been hotter than a George Foreman grill at a family reunion, so naturally we were anxious to take the Rotozip for a test spin.

The kit features the Rebel spiral saw, a Zip Mate grinder attachment, a carrying case, and a host of bits and accessories. The two-speed Rebel saw cranks an impressive 24,000 and 30,000 rpm. In our tests, the 4-1/2 amp motor powered the various cutting bits through just about every type of material we had lying around the shop: sheetrock, plywood, fiberglass, tile, brick, and cinder block. Our Rebel sliced through them all faster than a Ginsu knife through a hot tin can. Although it's certainly not going to replace our circular saw for cutting two-by material, it's great for anything less than an inch thick.

Just as the infomercials state, the Rotozip is an ideal all-around tool for wood and Plexiglas crafts and simple home improvement projects. We especially like that the Rebel includes a safety-conscious bump on/off switch that allows the tool to be shut down with just a tap. We also applaud Rotozip for creating a tool that's comfortable and easy to use for both men and women, big hands and small. All of the Rotozip saws have comfortable, ergonomic grips and are powered and balanced so the user never feels as though the tool is likely to torque out of his or her hands. The combo kit includes the Zip Mate, a useful little 4-inch grinder that attaches to the spiral saw motor and cuts metal and masonry, as well as acting as a grinding and polishing wheel (albeit a small one). Bottom line? The Rebel is a great do-it-yourself tool that's easy to use. This combo kit comes with everything you need for crafts and weekend projects. --Mark McDonald ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great versitility!
This is a great tool for many household jobs. It's a must for sheetrock work. I use it to sharpen my mower blades without having to remove them. The see-thru grinding discs make it easy to see the material as you're working. The unit has plenty of power for most handyman projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Experience
I have had nothing but a Great Experience with my Roto Zip! I finished off my basement this past year, and we used it to cut out all the power outlets, phone and cable jacks, and ceiling lights! I've also used the attachments to score landscaping blocks for chisiling to make a retaining wall, and never had any problems!!! I recommend it to all my friends, and I'll even lend it to them if I'm not using it of course :-)
GREAT TOOL!!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Overheats easily
Be careful with using the attachments, especially the large cutting disk. It overheated my unit and caused the shaft to expand and jam. Had to chuck the unit after using it only 3 or 4 times. What a waste. Not a heavy duty machine. Good for artsy-fartsy types. Good concept, not a hearty enuf machine for me. I was cutting a pet door in my very thin walled metal house door. It worked great, but jammed before the job was done.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not A Quality Tool
I purchased this tool about 18 months ago. I never used it during the warranty period. My son used it once to drill a hole in the bottom of a ceramic pot. My son-in-law used it once to cut out kitchen laminate counter top for a cooktop. First time I used the tool was the cut out a piece of dry wall and the tool started falling apart. The shaft lock button was difficult to engage and when I started the tool the buttton flew out on the floor. Now it busted and the shaft cannot be locked to change cutting bits. Altogether, the tool has been used for less than thirty minutes and it started flying apart. I am amazed at how flimsy the tool is made. I would not every buy another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rotozip rebel, a unique tool.
I was working on remodeling my parents bathroom this weekend and I needed to do some cut out work (in a tight area) on the vanity to accomodate the water pipes that came out of the floor. I used this unit and cut out the sections needed and the result looked great. No chipping of the wood, a smooth cut, very professional! Unique tool that has its place and it worked great. A nice addition to your power tool collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rotary Tool
This tool works great to repair the bath grout between tiles!

1-0 out of 5 stars This was a mistake
I bought this model of Wizard instead of the Dremel, to save a few bucks. I don't use it that much and I figured it would be fine for the light use I was going to subject it to. I was wrong.

The little push-button that locks the shaft, so that you can unscrew the collet, stripped out while I was trying to change bits. Now I have a very specialized roto tool. As soon as the bit in it wears out, it won't be worth anything.

Don't buy the Wizard! BUY THE DREMEL!

btw, Anybody want to buy a lightly used Wizard, cheap?

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than a dremel
I bought this tool because I have been completely refinishing all the trim in our "mobile home". I have found this to be much lighter, with less vibration than the dremel, causing less fatigue when I'm doing with my alterations. It has kept me from having to replace hundreds of dollars on replacement trim....

4-0 out of 5 stars Good enough for most projects
The only way to review this product is by comparing it with a similar Dremel model. For the price, the Wizard stacks up very well. The biggest discrepancy is in the rpms. The Dremel tool can produce up to 30,000rpms compared to only 24,000rpms for the Wizard. At max speed however, the Wizard seems to perform perfectly well. The difference is not all that noticeable. I used the Wizard for a variety of tasks and was able to perform each one easily and efficiently. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Bosch 1638 Spiracut Saw
I have owned the Bosch 1638 Spiracut saw for over a year now, and it has proven to be a very useful and durable tool. The Bosch Spiracut saw is exactly the same as the original RotoZip spiral-cut saw. It's great for making cutouts in wood, drywall, Plexiglas, ceramic wall tile and cement board. Its compact size makes it ideal for cutting in electrical boxes in tight, cramped areas. Although this tool is not ideally suited for fine finish work, with the proper bit for the material being cut, it does make a very clean cut and is relatively easy to control, but can very quickly get off the mark and go where it wants if your not paying close enough attention. I prefer this style cutout tool with it's long, thin body and no handle compared to the newer style RotoZip with the detachable handle, mainly because for the type of work I use the tool for, the handle would always seem to get in the way and also throw of the tools balanced feel, so I would never use it.
I also have the RotoZip with the ZipMate grinding and sanding attachment that will also fit the Bosch, but since there is no provision for a handle, I wouldn't recommend using it on this tool. Besides, if you really want to grind or sand something, a small 4-1/2 or 5-inch right angle grinder is a much better choice anyway. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great llittle tool, but over priced
I have used this tool over 2 years and it is indispensible for those cutting jobs in tight locations where no other saw will fit. I have not had the problems of the previous reviewer. Although the locking nut looks flimsy, it has always stayed tight during operation. The base is identical to that of the original Rotozip and looks weak, but it has never bent. It has plenty of power and will even drive most 1/4" router bits. I only wish that it had a light like the Rotozip Revolution.

2-0 out of 5 stars a little loose around the collar
GOOD POINTS 1.) motor is strong and fast 2.) blade change is easy and fast with the supplied wrench 3.) tool barrel shape is easy to hold and guide BAD POINTS 1.) mini-triangle locking nut cannot be tightened enough and loosens during operation, letting the blade plunge into the material your cutting 2.) "shoe" or "foot" is easily bent or pushed out of shape 3.) leverage problem pops up with lack of handle , wished I would of bought another type ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

In recent years, rotary cutout tools have soared in popularity, due mainly to a series of television infomercials promoting one brand. Though it doesn't receive the TV airplay of its main competitor, this DeWalt model uses a durable 5 amp motor--the most powerful motor yet in a cutout tool--making it a great tool for professional drywallers, electricians, and carpenters. To help battle dust infiltration, the tool features a sealed motor and switch, a must for any serious drywall tool. It also sports a quick-and-easy, tool-free bit-changing system and comes with both 1/8 and 1/4 inch collets. We really like the bump-off switch for quick tool shutdown and the simple and effective tool-free depth adjustments. Like other rotary cutout tools, this one uses spiral cutting bits, which work equally well plunging into a cut as they do laterally. In our test we found the DeWalt to be smooth running with low vibration. We had no problem plunging and cutting through 1-1/2 inches of solid birch, whizzing through drywall, and tearing through tile. In fact, this tool has more power than you'd expect from something of its size, and if you aren't paying attention, it can get away from you--an easier to live with problem than lack of power. Some extraordinary claims have been made about rotary cutout tools, and while DeWalt's cutout tool is as versatile as any we've tried, and a bit more powerful than most, it's most effective at what it was designed for--quick cutouts in drywall, tile, and plywood. --Brian Trinen ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Not just drywall and sheet material, it cuts tile
I have used the DeWalt cut-out tool in drywall work for about two years now. In that I use it mostly with a pilot bit. You have to learn a little by experience to avoid burning or breaking bits, but once you do learn, you can cut drywall in place like nobody's business. Really does the job in opening doors and windows, cutting outside corners, etc. Lots of other uses have come up--same as mentioned by others, and it has worked well in all of those, too. But here is one I recently discovered: Fit a carbide burr bit and with a little care you can cut china, terracotta and even porcelain tile to fit irregular, curved or freeform joints. To fit smaller corner cutouts, no need for a saw or nippers, just cut carefully with the carbide bit. Great for cutting holes in tile for pipes or to allow subsequent drilling into the substrate. Make sure you practice on some waste tile first. But it works like a charm.

5-0 out of 5 stars overreaches
this is the second of two reviews on this same tool that i have written. in the first i bombed it as basically useless in cutting curves in hardiboard tile backer. but i then discovered the way to do it is to make several cuts each a little deeper into the board( using the guide and depth ring) until you have completely pierced the board. very smooth strong. good tool well made.
