    Amazon.com

It looks great and sounds even better, even above the din of nailers, compressors and saws. But it's not just a radio: The DeWalt DC011 also charges 7.2-volt through 18-volt DeWalt batteries in an hour and plays up to eight hours from a single DeWalt battery if electricity is not available. The radio is AM/FM with a digital tuner, and an auxiliary port lets you plug in a CD player. A convenient case on the radio's side lets your store your CDs, safe and clean. It's tough enough for the jobsite, too, wearing a rugged, high-impact roll cage, steel speaker grills, and weather-resistant body. Our only complaint is that there's no battery included, but this probably isn't your first cordless tool, either. You can't go wrong, whether it'll play at the job or the home workshop.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

    Features

    • Heavy-Duty AM/FM radio with auxiliary port allows user to listen to the radio or CD (when plugged into auxiliary port)
    • Digital Tuner with LCD display, built-in clock, and 8 station memory presets
    • 1 hour charger for 7.2V to 18V DeWalt NiCd battery packs (except Univolt batteries)
    • Dual pivoting 11" flexible antenna provides more durability and better reception
    • Runs off of 7.2V to 18V DeWalt NiCd batteries making it a cordless radio

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed - Bad Reception
I use to have the old DeWalt DW911 radio where I had to put a coat hanger on to get better reception. I thought that their newer unit would be better reception, boy was I wrong. The antenna is bigger, but I can only move it in 3 -directions, side to side and towards the back. The handle prevents it from going foward. I guess I will have to find a new coat hanger. It came with this plastic CD case holder, but now I have to buy a CD player to go inside. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars time to get real here.......................
First of all any btty that last's 8hrs on a charge is great. Reception is not the best but for a jobsite radio its fine. To compare it to Milwaukee is not fair as thiers isnt even a charger. Sound is by far the best of all three.

3-0 out of 5 stars Proven bad reception
I saw the radio in the store and had it in my cart. I thought I should read the reviews prior to purchase and put it back. After reading the reviews I went back to home depot and with the Dewalt on one side and the Milwaukee on the other I performed the reception test. Don't buy the Bosch. I'm a great fan of their tools but the Bosch would not pick up ANY FM stations while the others would tune clearly to 8-10 local and not so local stations.

The Good- The MP3 function puts 11 hours of music on a disk, and with 12vdc and 4 outlets of GFCI It's still a good tool. I may need to take it apart to put an external antenna on it tho'

    3-0 out of 5 stars I think I'm pleased...or maybe not...I'm not sure...
I've owned my Power Box for a couple of months now. I read the other reviews and my comments relate to them.

I don't think this radio is too heavy or too big. I would have never thought of that as a possible compaint.

I have been wondering about the FM reception. I get many stations fine, but the PBS station, which is usually the easiest to get, is hard to get on the Power Box. But AM reception seems surprisingly good.

The one thing I really wish this thing had is a headphone jack. I have a small radio transmitter that I use at sites to transmit to my Peltor Alert hearing protection AM/FM headphones (I put them on when I'm using power equipment). I'd really like to be able to transmit whatever I'm listening to or playing to my headphones, but I can't with no jack. But, I'm sure I'm about the only person out there with this complaint.

One thing I have noticed is that once I charge a battery pack, it goes dead within a day or two even if the radio is not on. I really don't understand why this is, but it has happened several times with a fairly new battery pack.

I think the sound is good. But I wouldn't expect amazing sound from a jobsite radio, and I listen mainly to talk programming.

So, in the end, I guess I don't know if I like my Power Box. I wouldn't return it tomorrow for what I paid for it. But I'd sure like to keep that option open.

1-0 out of 5 stars power what??
I purchased this radio from home depot the other day and I have to say I was very disappointed.first off the radio is a tank and seemed to take up valuble space, which wouldn't have been a bad thing if it had been worth it.Second the sterio was not immpressive sounding at all ,weak volumn, terrible bass reponse , and bad reception. All that for just under $180.00 I'm very pleased with my bosch tools, this being the exception! milwaukee sounds 10 times better at under half the price!

2-0 out of 5 stars POWER BOX? Not really.
I got my Bosch Power Box the other day after ordering from amazon.com. I had read the reviews about the radio reception being poor & I figured they were exaggerating, but it's terrible! I can only get 2 FM stations in clearly & everything else is either all static or not much more than that! Its CD player works well & the sound quality is ok but not great. You have to have the power box plugged in even to charge your cell phone. Bought a bosch 24v platinum battery for it ( over $130.00! ) & it only works for about 8 hours before going stone dead. Lastly, the darn thing is heavier than a box of tools! With all that weight behind it & a price tag way bigger than Milwaulkee & Dewalt ( actually, you can buy both of them for the price of the Bosch!!!) you'd think they could make a better performing unit! Why did I keep it? It's the only one with a CD player...THAT'S IT!!!! Don't buy it unless you want a jobsite radio witha built in CD player!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Throw away your old charger!
I purchased this charger at the same time I bought my 14.4 cordless drill (Firestorm). This charger fully charges your Dewalt or Firestorm batteries in less than an hour (depending on how low they are when placed in the charger). My two batteries are still going strong after more than three years of frequent home use (the tune-up mode definitely helps).

Never use the 6 hr battery killer that comes with your cordless tools. This charger is definitely worth the money, considering I would have spent at least twice as much on new batteries.

4-0 out of 5 stars It tunes them up
Replaced my old charger with this one. Made a big difference with my older batteries that would not take much of a charge. Gave some new life to them. If you are a user of cordless tools, you know that batteries are the big maintenance expense. While my figures are not scientifically valid, my best guess is that this charger will extend the life of the batteries at least 20 percent

5-0 out of 5 stars "Tune-Up" Makes this the Better Choice
I traded up to this charger after one of my old ones quit. The "tune-up" mode really does make a difference. I tried a side by side test with my remaining old non-tune-up charger. I charged two depleted 12v batteries for 10 hours, using the "tune-up" mode on this charger. I then ran them in the same drill, and there was a noticable increase in rpm and torque with the "tuned-up" battery. The "tune-up" mode does take 8 hours, but it is only necessary every 8-10 charges. As DeWalt explains, the cells in the battery are wired in series and the "tune-up" charges the downline cells completely, where fast charging only fills the first few cells. All cordless batteries are a series of 1.5v batteries enclosed in a case. To get a full charge, all the individual batteries need to fill completely.

If you have older batteries, this charger will give them new life. It is a worthwhile upgrade even for new batteries, as it will give them better performance and perhaps, extend their life. ... Read more

Black & Decker’s VersaPak tools are great for the homeowner, and to keep them running, you’ll want some spare batteries. Some advantages to these include their freedom from "memory," which keeps you from getting a full recharge and the fact that you’ll get at least 300 full recharges on each battery. They’ll power all the 3.6-volt VersaPak tools, including the ScumBuster and screwdrivers. Of course, once you buy a VersaPak tool, you don’t have a choice of batteries, but we’ve found these to be reliable and well able to power the 3.6-volt VersaPak line. The charger has a light that lets you know you’ve inserted the batteries for a charge, and three hours later, they’re ready to go. Our only suggestion: We’d like to see Black & Decker revamp the charger to let us know when the batteries are fully charged. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Time Saver
I am in housekeeping at a camp and we have the VersaPac for our ScumBuster. It is so convenient and fast to change out because, we are very business and don't have time to spend on trying to change out batteries. With the twin charger we always have a battery ready to go. Thank you Black & Decker for making our day.

3-0 out of 5 stars Battery life
I have a most of the VersaPak tools sold to date and really do like their ease of use. We have the circular saw, 2 reciprocating saws, 5 flashlights, 2 drills, 1 stick screwdriver, 1 scumbuster that I can think of right now. THESE ARE ALL GREAT TOOLS!

They do have one BIG SHARED PROBLEM. Battery life (or lack of it).

I currently have 10 DEAD VersaPak silver batteries in my kitchen drawer and NONE are over 24 months old. The standard silver battery will hold a useful charge for about 30 days on the shelf. NONE of my silver batteries have lasted more than 14 months and a few of them died within 8 months. I do NOT put them through a charge/discharge cycle even once a day - so they are NOT lasting the '300 cycles' that B&D claims.

I just purchased 2 GOLD VersaPak batteries in May 2002 and they REALLY DO LAST LONGER while working. I hope they last longer than 12 months though. I certainly HOPE that B&D will FIX this battery problem. I like the tools, but I may need to switch to another vendor's products if this battery issue is not resolved soon.

2-0 out of 5 stars they just don't last
Batteries seem smart, but they don't last long when new (except in the flashlight) and they gradually just die off completely (and are not cheap to replace). Be forewarned.

1-0 out of 5 stars What is the hold-up?
If I ever receice this item, I might be able to rate it higher.
Shipping date keeps moving back......if item is out of stock, please say so.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad batteries
I have the entire works of BD cordless power tools including the flashlight, scum buster, vacuum, cordless drill, recip saw etc., but no batteries. I had the ones that came with the tools plus some extras I purchased seperately. After a year of use, none will take a charge. What a waste, it is a great idea, but I guess the technology is not there year. ... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars poor battery performance
I'm now purchasing the third battery for my Porter Cable 9884. The tool has been fine but the battery life is unacceptable. I just purchased another tool (Makita drill driver and battery life has been much superior).

Will not purchase another Porter Cable cordless tool though I have several other Porter Cable tools.

With a price of $85.00 I expect much higher quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wish Porter Cable / Delta designers read these reviews
I have been loyal to the Delta and Porter Cable brands all my life. My Dad used these tools when he was a young man starting his own business and said they were reliable "good tools"... Good enough for me. I bought the 19.2 volt combo system and have had 2 batteries fail in 2 years or less and I am just a hobbyist. I bought one battery when the first went bad because you really need 2 batteries. I resent having to pay $85 for another battery but have useless tools without them. They really need to do some thing for their loyal users to regain respect. The tools are good the batteries are junk. I had a 12 volt Panasonic unit for over 8 years and used it extensively prior to getting the Porter Cable. I only replaced it because the batteries finally gave out and replacements cost more than what I paid for the whole drill with 2 batteries. I think it's a plot!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars mediocre performance
I have owned the porter cable combo pack for a couple of years, using it in my construction business. I have had battery performance problems from the begining, particularly with the saws (replaced one charger too) I always felt I was paying the price for getting a good deal on E-bay, although I purchased it new in the box. I came on this site to purchase two new batteries to see if that would solve my problem, but after reading the reviews I am wondering if I should just put that $180.00 toward a new combo set from a different manufacturer. I have always been a Porter-Cable fan but am disappointed with this product. Because of the performance problems, I almost never use the circular or recip saws. Essentially I have a $500.00 hammer drill and flashlight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable batteries
I own the porter cable combo pack with the saw boss, tiger saw, hammer drill and flashlight and two batteries. The batteries seem to get the job done with the drill but with the saws, the life of the charge seems alittle short for what they cost, they do charge fast and have alot of power, but for the moderate user, I recommend a third battery, also take extra precaution with the charger as it is not that tough and a few drops to the floor can damage the fuse, that is sodered in. (extremely bad design) should allow the user to be able to replace the fuse .........note mine is only 6 months old too at the time of this review......chad

1-0 out of 5 stars Watch out!
I have owned the saw and drill combo for two years. Love the product performance, but I have to replace one battery of the original two and the second looks to go soon. I just came to reality to the replacement cost...Two new batteries for what I can purchase a new Porter Cable 1 3/4 horse router with plunger base.....
Watch out before you buy the 19.2 volt systems..... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars great tools -- bad charger
I won't go into great detail since others have already stated my problem, but the point is well taken that a cordless tool is only as good as the charger. My charger died and finding a replacement seems impossible. I'll stay away from Black and Decker tools in the future for this reason.

4-0 out of 5 stars just keeps working...
I have 14.4v Makita, Ryobi, and Black and Decker tools. As far as the actual tools go, the B&D always seem unfinished and kind of crude. (My drill has always sounded like it was full of sand; I also have one of the first rushed-to-market models w/ the bad chuck (a problem they have since fixed)) In spite of these problems, I have more hours on the B&D than on the Makita and Ryobi combined. Some really rough use, too. I have already had to buy replacement batteries for the Makita (expensive!) and Ryobi (very hard to find) and the B&D batteries still work as well as the day I got them. I did have to replace the charger almost immediately after the warranty expired but found one at Wally quite reasonably priced. In my opinion, the batteries are the best part of the Firestorm line.

You can purchase the inexpensive B&D 1 hour charger online ( I have two, one for each style battery) from www.reliablepowertools.com. Or you can also use the Dewalt 1 hour chargers, the batteries fit with no modifications. These chargers have charge indicator lights that tell you when the pack is fully charged so there's no guessing. This is a simple problem to cure, I hope this helps everyone....

1-0 out of 5 stars Its not the battery, but the charger
The battery may be good, but it is useless if it can not be charged. I have three Black and Decker 14.4 volt tools and four batteries. That much battery power was enough to keep the sawdust flying until the charger went south. No problem, I had a second charger at the ready. But it too went dead within minutes of the first one. I am now searching for a replacement charger. I certainly will not buy another tool that uses this type of battery and may have to replace what I have. But it will not be Black and Decker.

4-0 out of 5 stars Charger
I had a PS140 charger recently die on me. However, the local B&D Outlet store took my old drill/battery/charger and replaced the whole set at NO COST and without question. It did not even matter that I had bought it elsewhere and had no receipt.

I can't complain about service like that. B&D does have a two year warranty. I'm still a happy customer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dewalt Coffee Break Charger
This charger is great! I have several 14.4v cordless Dewalt tools-some with 5 year-old batteries. These of course have lost some of their charge capacity. It is frustrating waiting for the standard hour-long recharge when I use the batteries faster than they can be charged. The 9117 helps me stay busy-at least I have to find another excuse for slacking. The 3-stage charging aspect of rejuvenation (overnight charging) yielded a noticeable increase in power for 2 of my older batteries. Since batteries are about $54 each, increasing their life expectancy appeals to my wallet. If you have 2 or more tools going at the same time (drill, screw-gun, saw) this charger will ensure your job keeps going!

4-0 out of 5 stars No Tune Up Feature In this Charger.
This is an excelent choice for the contractor or DIY that uses cordless tools all the time. If you need to get your tool powered back up fast, this one will do it on your coffee break or while using a spare battery. The only drawback: For the steep price, I would also expect to see a tune up feature included with this charger as is in the DW9116. Still, time is money and 15 min charges translate into "0" time wasted if you also have at least 1 spare battery. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Battery Charger Solution??
I will add my two cents to many other reviews which mention problems with Black&Decker Firestorm battery chargers --- STAY AWAY FROM Black & Decker battery-powered tools. I purchased a second B&D Firestorm 18V drill just to get a new charger (the one with my first drill went bad). In no time, the second charger went bad. I ordered two MORE chargers from the B&D warranty/service website. One went bad after a few months, and when I then tried the second one IT NEVER WORKED AT ALL. Trying to contact B&D is impossible, you just get an automated run-around. BEWARE!

UPDATE: In all fairness, after writing this review I was FINALLY able to get thru to a Customer Service rep at B&D who is sending a charger -- no charge. Kudos to Holly at B&D and an upgrade to 3 stars. Also, it was explained to me that I should test my battery packs for bad cell(s). Charging "bad" battery packs will ruin the charger. Even a seemingly "good" battery pack can have a bad cell and will fry a charger. I was given a battery test procedure which I also found in a Service Bulletin on the web at www.dewaltservicenet.com. Testing Procedure: Place the battery pack in the charger for 2 minutes, take the battery pack out, put a volt meter on it and if it is less than 18V you have a bad cell(s) and the battery pack is bad. Continuing to charge a bad battery pack eventually ruins the charger (4 times in my case -- duh!). I followed this procedure and sure enough found one battery out of four was bad (although it seemed to run the drill just fine). Kind of an inconvenient thing to have to do prior to charging a battery pack, but it beats buying more chargers and preserves my investment in drills and batteries. ... Read more
