Wow, very good for med. duty
If you are a pro and use this everyday you may not want to get this, but if your a jack of all trades or just to use once or twice a week this is great for you.

Get a grip
This low cost vise will hold whatever you need to drill a hole in on your drill press. The quick release lets you change pieces fast for repetitive drilling. Unfortunatly, it does not fit the Delta DP300 bench drill press .... It is much too large and the mounting holes do not line up...

Too large for 990 bench drill press
Although it's advertised to fit the Delta 990 press, it does not. The bolt holes in the vise simply will not line up square w/ the slots in the drill press table. I can c-clamp it to the table of the press and it works fine, but no one wants to have to make such basic compromises with a brand new tool. I'm going to return it and look for the 4" vise instead.
The two stars reflects my frustration with the false advertising, not the quality of the product. I agree with the prior reviewers regarding the quality.

better then expected
Seeing that this is a 6 inch vise for under thirty dollars I though there was a quality issue for it being so cheap. Not so. The quick release feature is very handy. And it's so big it doubles as a bench vise when I need it. If your drill press is big enough, get this vise.

Great addition to a Delta Drill Press
The Quick Release Vise is a great addition to any delta drill press. It makes drilling very easy and accurate, since you aren't trying to use clamps or your hands to hold onto wood or metal. This vise does not come with bolts to attach it to your drill press, you need to buy those from your local hardware store. what do you expect for $179
Let me preface my comments by stating that I own and love many pieces of grizzly machinery. That being said, this is not one of them.

The design of this drill press intrigued me to the point that I decided to purchase it. It has occupied a place in my shop for over a year now. It is a great idea, 34" swing,drill at compound angles on a flat table, how can you beat features like that, right? They fall short of the theory in the application.

First and foremost the motor is way underpowered. It is not the 1/2 hp motor that they use on most of their heavier machines, it is a very poorly made import of about half the physical size you would expect. drilling holes with any sized forstner bit over about 1/2" will stop the motor, you must feed very slowly and back it off every 1/16" to let the motor regain momentum.

I should have replaced the motor immediately, but figured I would use it until it burned up, which happened last weekend at the most inopportune time. Thick clouds of black smoke, whining, hissing, the smell of burning plastic, of course it happened 13 months after I purchased it, 1 month after the 12 month warranty expired, not that i would want another of those motors anyway.

I replaced it with a 1/2 hp Dayton motor of corresponding specifications (would have used larger, but It was what I had immediately available). Talk about a night and day difference, it powered through drilling 2" holes with no problem whatsoever. I had used this underpowered drill press long enough that I forgot what a drill press was supposed to work like.

The other main problem is the amount of flex in the main column and in the shaft for the radial head, it is acceptable for most tasks but can cause a little more deflection than desired for precision work. I still like the radial head idea. I wish the larger radial head drill press grizzly offers was mounted on a conventional main column with a conventional table.

If you do buy this press, replace the motor immediately, it's not worth the aggravation or inefficiency to even bother with the original. ... Read more

eh, it's okay
This is an entry-level Forstner set. On the bright side, there are plenty of sizes, and a cheap wooden case. But don't expect to be getting top-end quality for cheap with this- the case is pitiful, only slightly better than no case at all. And the quality of the bits isn't up to production standards.

Still, this is a good starter set for a novice woodworker, about on the quality one would expect from Harbor Freight.

I got a complete Titanium 20 Pc set in a great wooden box for what I would have paid for about half as many bits. They came well oiled and with individual protectors on them (great idea).

Not bad for the price but ...
I would agree that for the money you receive a decent set of forstner bits.
However, and I only checked the 1/2" bit in all fairness, I found that it was a quite a few thousands proud of .5"
I bought this set specifically because I needed to drill holes for some 1/2" pegs. I chucked it into the drill press and bored a few quick test holes. The bits drilled well. When I fit the pegs into the hole, well the hole was larger than the peg. Not good in fact I got mad enough to think about returning them.
After cooling down I used the vernier to verify that they did in fact measure greater than .5 I chucked in a new Craftsmen 1/2" split point drill for a comparision hole and the peg was as snug as bug in rug.. I used the vernier to confirm the Craftsman bit was dead on at .5
I can't believe that the titanium coating would make up the difference in size that I observed.

If you are intending to do really fine high class woodjoinery than you should spend the extra [$] and get the right tools. For my wood butchery projects they will work fine since in most cases the level of accuracy is within my tolerances. Lets face it how often do you need a flat bottomed hole?

I give them a 4 simply because I needed a 1/2" to be exactly a 1/2" and the drills failed to deliver.

For the price these are worth the wait
I had to wait quite a while for these to be stocked at amazon.com, just due to low supply. However, you wont find a better set at this great price out there. They work great and are much faster and smoother than those wooden box nock-offs you find on Ebay. Get 'em as soon as amazon has 'em is my suggestion.

I have been shopping around for a reasonably priced yet not cheaply made Forstner Bit set for a while till now. All the others I have seen were higher priced and not Titanium Coated. Awesome.
Too bad Home Depot doesn't sell DeWalt bits anymore. What a stupid mistake. I'm sick of wasting my time with those junk Vermont American and other cheap bits that the local hardware stores sell. Maybe they get higher margins. I now buy online. I got this set from DeWalt. In comparison, the last VA set I got at Home Depot, the 3/8 bit completely broke apart drilling one measley hole into stucco! I have another old bit that has drilled 100s of holes into the same stucco with no significant wear. They don't make them like they used to with the exception of the DeWalt ones here. overseas
The reason these bits wear out so soon and do not hold up anymore is because now they are made overseas and with inferior material. This is with all products that used to be made in the USA and are now made overseas. The manufacturers find it cheaper to do this so they can expand their profits, but in doing so the sacrifice quality, customer loyalty, and the most important of all is another American worker is laid off.

the bit that used to be excellent
we have been using this brand of bits for the past 8 years. the bits that i have purchased in the past 7 months have not met our expectations. they wear out after drilling ten holes. In the past they have lasted atleast 3 hundred holes. the set screws are wearing out a lot faster as well. They have lost their durability. Kliss Cabinets
We are a professional cabinet shop specializing in high end work that demands high end tools. I shopped the Jet and Delta along with the Fisch drill press. We chose the Fisch because the table has a nicer tilting mechanism (you don't need to get out a wrench out..that you cant find, tap,tap with a hammer and so on). The Fisch has a lever that works nicely to adjust the fully tilting table smoothly. No light though..(if that is important to you, stick one on yourself) The fit an finish is slightly less quality than Jet and Delta(crooked stickers,minor cosmetic stuff). The up/down table gear mechanism is a little rough but I believe it will "break in" meaning round off the gears and smooth out. Incedently the free hold down clamp is free for a reason...nicely made but is doesn't really have any clamping power. All things considered I am glad I chose the Fisch over the others. Overall solid machine that performs well. Jet, Delta,Fisch..they're all made in China. ... Read more
