Cabinet installation can be a bear, but this clamp set makes it more than bearable. The unique design is like another pair of hands that grip while you align and tighten the stiles, pre-drill and fasten, and the clamps stay put through the entire process. The drill guides and pilot holes ensure that the 1/8-inch bit (included) hits the mark time after time. We like the professional quality: lightweight but rugged aluminum claws and alignment plates, protective rubber pads that won’t mar your work, 1/2-inch diameter zinc-plated, cold-drawn steel screws with smooth Acme threads. The plastic handles even have grooves for a great grip. These clamps will work with stiles from 1-1/2 to 2 inches wide and up to an impressive 1-1/2 inches thick. We think it’s well worth the price if you’re working alone, whether you’re a professional or a home do-it-yourselfer.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Essential Tool
If you are installing cabinets this is one tool you do not want to be without. Works well but you may need more than two if your cabinets are large or if fighting with a really uneven floor.

4-0 out of 5 stars great clamp but could be improved
These work well for hanging cabinets and make short work out of alignment. My only critisism is the pin (a rolled piece os steel that holds the two pieces of the clamp together at the screw) repeatedly came out of the hole and allows the clamp to separate. This has happened to both clamps and has been remedied by opening the cylinder with a nail set and redriving it back into the hole. They are always in my tool box and they are used heavily as I am a cabinet maker. If they fix the pin with a threaded hole and pin with a screw thread on the end I would have given it a 5+. I will buy another set in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cabinet Installers take Note!
Have you ever tried to install kitchen cabinets? How about by yourself? Uh huh. If you have then the brilliance of these clamps will be obvious. I wish I had invented them. You not only pull the cabinets together tight, but you are able to get the faces (stiles) even (flush).

The only other thing you'll need is a drill bit made for the pilot hole.

A must have.

3-0 out of 5 stars Easy on, not so easy off...
Bought a set of these because the concept looks great. They worked well to align the first two cabinets I installed, but one of the clamps would not come off! It felt like it was cross-threaded and would not open up. After nearly tearing the skin off the palms of my hands, I had to resort to a pipe wrench which opened the clamp at the expense of the threaded shaft, it fractured into two pieces. I would like to buy another set, but probably won't just out of principle.

4-0 out of 5 stars 1/8" play.....
I bought this tool already knowing about the 1/8" slip problem; thought I'd see for myself.

Sure 'nough - it DOES slip. In spite of what a couple have people have said - the third lever-lock position will NOT stop it from drifting (although it helps a bit).

When using a circular saw, the slip doesn't always happen - likely since you aren't putting much pressure on the clamp since the saw blade is moving along parallel to it. However, when you use it with a router - there's a lot more push against the guide - and, believe you me, it WILL slip (found out the hard way).

That said. I STILL like it. Saves time over fiddling with a straight edge and C clamps.

To solve the drift problem, I back up the non-leaver end (which is the only end that slips - the lever end doesn't) with a block of wood and a C clamp which is still speedier, more convenient and accurate in the long run.

If this thing worked perfectly, it would be one of the most useful things I've bought in a while. Speaks for itself that in spite of the problem, I was getting to much use out of it to bother returning it.

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD QUALITY
These tools are well made and straight as can be.I do however have one complaint about them. They lack the ability to adjust the spring tension on the clamping mechanism. For the most part this is not an issue unless, you want to clamp thin plywood or any other thin materials. It will cause some material to buckle under the clamp pressure ( I learned the hard way). Besides that this is a great tool but, without the ability to adjust the clamping pressure it has a few limitations. As far as an edge guide or straight edge it's solid as a rock. Now get out there and clamp away.

4-0 out of 5 stars Performance on par with price.
I purchased this device a while back mainly to use as a straight edge tool guide and I have found that it performs well for this purpose. Clamping it square to the table takes a bit of fussing, but once it is square and locked down there are no worries of slippage or flexing, even under significant pressure. Using a handheld circular saw riding against this tool guide, I get an arrow straight cut every time. I chose the 50" tool so I could use it to cross cut plywood in this manner. Since tablesaws are exceptionally more powerful and versatile than handheld circular sawqs, I do not like the results as well as running a panel through a tablesaw with a big outfeed table. However, if that is not possible due to budget or space constraints this is a valuable tool to have around. I would feel better about the value of this tool if it cost a bit less, but it does provide you with increased cutting options for a lot less than a bigger saw or outfeed table would cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars These clamps are tops, and pressure is adjustable
When I use these clamps, I adjust the pressure by how snugly I fit the foot of the clamp. If I have thicker material and want to clamp real tight, I slide the foot up tight against the edge, and then push down the lever. If I want a slightly lighter clamping pressure, then I leave a hair gap offset, before clamping it down.
If I had to get critical of working with these, I would say two things. 1) You have to be working on a relatively flat surface underneath. If you are on two horses, and you have a sheet of plywood, it tends to bow. Then the clamp can not create a flat workedge. Wherever it is low, their is a valley, or a loss of the clamp edge flat on the material. This is to be expected, of course, and is not a problem, if you have a supporting sheet, or a couple of two by's on top of the horses. 2) In order to create a square cut (90 degrees) you need to use a carpentars square to line it up. (As compared to a table saw, with large tables, which is preconfigured to be square.) Be that as it may, you can't beat these for giving you a great tool guide for lots of different purposes. These make a very good, far reaching clamp. It will not creep a setting, if you are using it for an overnight glue up.
Their lightweight, yet strong. If your careful, you can keep your saw tight against the edge. For a heftier version, check out Tru-Grips pro series. They are over 5 inches wide, and have t-tracks, and a special indentation to accomodate their router base, circular saw base, and stop. That creates error free straight lines out on the job. The come in 2, 4, and 8 foot sizes. All of them are a few inches larger than their stated size. For example the 4 foot, will handle workpieces up to 54 inches.
I highly recommend Tru-Grip products, both for their usability, engineering, and quality build.

4-0 out of 5 stars indispensible for making long cuts and router passes.
This is one of the most useful tools in my shop. I use it primarily to cross cut plywood as well as make dadoes with a router. I personally think that using a circular saw cut larger pieces is much easier than using a table saw. The main advantage of the table saw is its fence, but the Clamp-N-Tool guide almost negates that, but it is not quite as convenient as a fence and it does not automatically clamp square to the piece. However, running a circular saw over a sheet of plywood is much easier than feeding it into a table saw (unless you have a helper or a very large table). If you are on a tight budget or have limited shop space, I highly recommend getting one of these and a good 15 amp circular saw instead of a table saw. I also recommend this tool to those who already have table saws and router tables. It will make working with large pieces much easier. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Low priced, accurate fence for all sorts of operations
I originally purchased the 4ft. Tru-Grip Pro to build a router table carcass and top. Once I mastered the efficient use of the tool, I found making deadon accurate square cuts quick and painless. I do not have the bases, but I don't really need them. I just use the edge of the tool for a fence, check square and offset for the operation and either saw off edges or route dados and rabbet cuts. It's a bit more of a pain to set up than my table saw, but the accuracy is spot on and for large pieces and panel crosscuts, this absolutely provides maximum utility for the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Tru Grip Pro FTR Series is a first class product
The Tru Grip Pro FTR series is a first class product. The thing that is very important is that they grip well (you can adjust it) and they are very true and accurate when using the Stop, or Router Guide, or Saw guide. No wobble, no play, just tight, smooth, snag free accuracy.
When you consider the tools they replace, they are also a bargain. With a 4 foot and an 8 foot model, you can cut 4 x 8 sheets of plywood, without having to shell out twenty times the money for a panel cutter. If I was cutting plywood sheets all day long, of course the panel cutter has some setup advantages. For example you don't have to bother to use a square when cutting with a panel cutter. But for portability, and accurate use, the Tru Grip system can't be beat.
The pro series is a lot wider than their regular guide clamps, that is to allow for the mitre T slots on both sides. That way the accessories can ride along those tracks. Their regular guide clamps are great for doing dadoes with a router for example. Use two of them, and you have an instant routing guide.
The circular saw accessory is very accurate. You just drill holes in the plate, which is phenolic plastic, and mount your saw. Then you drop your saw down through the plate, giving you an extremely tight fit, which prevents tear out, when cutting through finish work. So you wind up dedicating a circular saw to it.
The stop piece is great for all sorts of uses, like when routing blind dadoes, or for making repeated cuts at a certain depth.
Having the 4' and the 8 foot model is convenient. Using an 8' for everything is not advised. The long overhang left by an 8' on a short piece of work is not easy to deal with.
I use the 8' when trimming door edges. How else can you run an 80 inch door through a machine in order to get an adjusted edge?
The router plate is already machined out with a circle in the middle that is oversize, so as to keep the bit at a maximum clearance for plunging. Once again, you drill it yourself to accomodate your specific router.
The router , saw, and stop accessories are premade to fit into the specific configuration on the edge of the guide, as well as the T slot, creating a very snug fit, with no play, yet not binding.
The days of finding a left over edge of a plywood sheet, then figuring out how to clamp it down, in order to cut larger sheets are over. This system is lightweight, made out of thick aluminum, which makes it substantial, yet a breeze to carry around.

The equipment it replaces, and the accurracy it creates in your work, make it well worth the price. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very handy!
Really helps cross cutting operations in a small shop, and when combined with one of the bases also available helps deliver repeatable, accurate results. What more do you need?

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate, solid, easy to use
I like my tools to have a very solid feel to them, and this tool certainly provides that. Additionally it is very accurate and has made crosscutting plywood in my small shop much less painful (still have that space issue..). Combined with a cross cutting jig comprised of a few 2x4s, this thing will deliver results each and every time.

5-0 out of 5 stars dead tru and hold tight

4-0 out of 5 stars Bessey EKT-55 edge clamp
Very pleasant to use. The large metal casting is suprisingly lightweight, and some of the mechanism inside is plastic, so it is nice and light. I used mine to clamp edge molding onto plywood while gluing, and it gripped just fine, no slippage at all (so yes, to the reviewer above, it's great for bare wood). Much faster and easier to use than bar clamps. Now if only they can dramatically lower the price so I can get a bunch of 'em instead of just one...

4-0 out of 5 stars Bessey EKT55 Clamp
This clamp fills a specific need pretty well (at a significant price). I have used it primarily to install face frames on cabinets. It is easy to use and light considering its size. The mechanism worked smoothly. My only disappointment was that it did not apply as much pressure as I hoped. This may be because it was trying to grip a finished surface. I think it might do better on raw wood. I would be concerned if I needed a lot of pressure and the inside of the cabinet was laminated. I tried the Gross-Stabile model and took it back to get these. I am happy I did. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product, awful packaging
I find this a fine product for light work. It does double duty as a convenient wide-jawed clamp or spreader.

But whoever designed the hard plastic packaging should spend eternity in hell unwrapping these things. NO thought was given to the buyer's convenience. Even with sharp industrial shears, it is VERY difficult to remove from the packaging. I would not buy another for that reason alone. In fact, the one I received already had half the package cut away as if someone had given it up and returned it rather than bloody his fingers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice system but needs to be improved
This seems like a good system so I bought one. It provides a swivel base and a quick-release bar clamp. Upon mounting on a table, it does seem to provide a very verstatile way to hold various objects. However, two problems soon become evident. First, the whole system has a lot of play in it, so it is not really designed for any activity that would exert more than moderate force (such as hack-sawing) on the object. Secondly, there is a defect in the design that when you clamp the system onto a table, the release on the bar clamp is practically touching the table, which makes it rather cumbersome and hard to swivel the clamp or tighten or loosen the clamp. Back to the drawing board.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Great Idea!!!
I was skeptical about this clamp/spreader until I got it home! It is amazingly versatile! If you dont understand what I mean click on the picture to see how this clamp works!

The odd dome looking piece on the under side of the clamp is used to attach it to the side of a bench. And when you tighten this down to the edge of the table make sure you don't over tighten. Most people will tighten it as much as possible but thanks to the rubberized grips it just isnt necessary. Give it a comfortable hand tighten and it holds VERY securley! One note the bench must be no larger than 2 1/4".

The clamp itself can be removed from the bench attachment. While seated in the bench attachment you can swivel the clamp 360 degrees. And it does have positive detents for secure locking. You should also receive 2 sets of pads to be used on the clamp. One is smooth and the other has a no slip tread. Wilton also includes some project plans for variouse tasks. There are a few good ideas in there so check it out.

The depth of the Clamp is 3inches from the bar to the top of the rubber pad. And the jaws open up to about 13 1/2 inches. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy and quick to use
This it a good straight edge, although it is hard to clamp down all the way to prevent a little movement. I called the company, and they sent me an extension to the handle which makes it easier to clamp down. They were quick with their response.

5-0 out of 5 stars These are great, a must have for sure
These clamps are great. I got this one, the 24 inch clamp and tool guide, and I also purchased the 48 inch (total 50 some inches) Pro guide with T Slots. I first saw the 24 inch clamp and tool on Norm Abrams New Yankee workshop, and he used them for a router edge guide. Then I saw him make a quick mortising jig, out of two of them for the router. These Griset clamps are a dream. They meet the criteria of being easy, quick, and accurate to set up and use. The list of possible uses is enourmous.
For example, I needed to trim the ends of some MDF. I used one of these clamps, with a square, grabbed the rear attaching brace, snugged it up to the rear of the piece, and then gave the front lever a push, and it easily clamped firmly to the piece. I took out my Bosch Jig Saw, and the guide was so accurate, that it enabled me to make a smooth cut. Finally I used a long board, with some medium grit, gave it a light sanding, and it was indistinguishable from the factory cut.
I find these to be so accurate, and easy to use, I could see a contractor using the 4 foot and 8 foot models to cut 4x8 sheets of plywood on the job.
I plan on buying more of these. I want to get another of the clamp and tool guide, so I can mate two of these up, for different operations, and I defintely want a pair of the back to back clamps for a quick way to secure pieces of sanding, and even gluing up.
It sounds expensive, for clamp and edge guides, when you think of buying several of them. Once you buy one or two, and start to use them, you will definitely be back for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Convenience, Utility
After fumbling about with C-clamps combined with other straight edges for routing tasks, cutoff operations, etc., there is simply no comparison. The clamp-n-tool guide is one of those tools you will kick yourself for not buying sooner. The 24" model is compact and light yet very rigid and it will not move once clamped in place. It always clamps square to the edges. The clamping foot slides smoothly with little effort.

There are two "stages" to the clamping mechanism. In the first stage, the handle is nearly parallel to the body of the straight edge. I've found that in this mode the straight edge will tend to wiggle slightly. In the second stage, the handle is about a quarter of a revolution closer to the floor. In this mode the straight edge remains tightly in place and square. It takes a fair amount of pressure to clamp it tight. However, it tends to get easier after some use.

Given the many uses(straight edge guide, band saw or drill press fence, an extra edge clamp for glue-ups and others)and ease and quickness of use, I think its a great buy for the price of a decent router bit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Available!
I bought one of these straight edge clamps 10 years ago and found it to be a must have item for many things. I lost it and bought another brand that was no comparison. I hated the replacement and when I found this brand again I was happy to toss the other one. They are great for cutting off doors, plywood, or holding boards together. I have all 3 sizes and purchased more for my employees. They are worth double the cost!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for instant straigtedge and clamping
I use it extensively for that quick clamping job and its ok as an instant fence. What I don't like is that it does not set square without checking first against another reference. Going thru that trouble gives me nothing extra against a homemade jig. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad size
I think this is a great clamp for using as a straight edge, and it performs beautifully. The only think I would recommend is buying both the shorter version and the longer version than this halfway between size. This one is a little too long for going across boards, but too short to use on 4'x8' sheet goods. Otherwise a good investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clamp to end all clamps!
I bought two of the 36" models last year and are they handy! I have used these for routing and planning many a board without a problem. I found that just one was not enough and you may too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast and Easy
Ingenious design makes temporary fencing fast and easy.

Drawbacks:
Guide can slip sideways while engaging lever.

Unclamping snap can hurt fingers.

Design and build tolerances don't not allow for ultimate accuracy. The fixed lever end does securely locate the guide, however, the sliding stop end will move 1-2mm. This play cannot be prevented by simply increasing the clamping force. It is caused by slop between the sliding plastic end stop and the aluminum bar.

Conclusion
Good enough for many carpentry jobs, but not acceptable for fine furniture construction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get one or 2 of these !!!!!
I just finished a desk project, built half before I got the TRu-Grips and half after. Trust me it will cut your cutting and routing time in half and gives excellant results. As far as there being play in the clamps, it depends on how careful you are when you clamp the material. Also it depends on where you start with the handle, in the up or medium position. I had no trouble with any play whatsoever.
