What everyone says is true!
We have a new home with this model installed and now 6 months later and after 2 nights of false alarms awaking us first at 3AM and then again later, these units are now removed. We examined them (clean and no dust), changed batteries and found nothing wrong...just another night of disconcerting awakening. The builder did not leave us a manuel and neither can we find one online. I'm writing this at 2:30 AM after having found these very helpful reviews...thank you!...I can go back to bed without fear except minus detectors until we purchase new ones. Do not purchase this model!

Wake Up! - Wake Up! - No fire, but it's 3AM! - Wake Up!
I too had these units go off all over our house at 3AM and then again a minute later. I ran around and found one unit with a blinking green light, so I pressed the test button and it didn't sound off again ..... until the *next* morning at 5AM. I again pressed the test button and went back to bed. Later that day I replaced the battery (which is still good, by the way). It hasn't sounded off again for a couple of days, but now I'm skittish in the wee morning hours. Get a different detector.

poor unit
I had a unit go off every 10 minutes in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Had to pull the unit and remove the battery.

Its 3 o clock in the morning
and i find myself sitting at the computer cause i was awaken out of my sleep by this stupid smoke alarm again, only there was no smoke or fire. and not being able to find the manual around the house i went online to try and find 1. and this was the only place i could find a manual for the damn thing because the manufacturer's web site doesnt provide any online manuals for their products. the manual was of no help either. the alarm sounds [at full volume] for about 3 seconds & then cuts off only to sound again 10 minutes later for god knows what reason. because i sure don't know considering there was nothing in the manual that explains this scenario. a quick run around the house & all the alarms look fine except for 1 which has a flashing green led, another condition which is not covered in the manual. so i rummage around the kitchen, find a 9-volt battery & replace the 1 thats in the alarm in hopes that it will solve the problem.

so basically what i'm saying is that if my story sounds like fun to you then go ahead & purchase this alarm, otherwise take my advice & look elsewhere for your fire safety needs, i will be in the morning.

Poor quality of materials
Aside from discoloration of the plastic shell after a few years of use, I have several of these alarms that spontaneously broke loose from the ceiling simply due to the force of gravity. It appears the plastic is of inferior quality. ... Read more

The best Surge Protector I've Ever bought
It is worth the $$$$. I hooked up all my electronics to it. The plugs are held extremely tight, and they will not fall out. The picture on my Monitor is less shaky. Also, the cord on it is extremely long, and the plug is almost flat to the wall. It is also a great deal because it comes with labels for the wires, and locking cable ties. I have bought one for my PC, and TV.

Charger stinks
I've had the very same problem as others. Obviously the Charger is crap.

absolute garbage product
As others have stated, this charger is a piece of garbage. I have a 10 year old cordless Skil that keeps working, and a 7 year old DeWalt that just don't stop. This is very expensive junk that is better to look at than use.

Drill is nice and works well. But, I have blown through 2 chargers now. Batteries keep working. P/C should realize that this is no better than generic and 10x the price! Do yourself a favor and don't buy another charger. Just buy a new drill but a DIFFERENT brand than Porter Cable! Obviously the company is going after profit RATHER than quality.

Another bad charger
I have owned my PC 14.4 1/2" hammer drill for nearly two years - while I do tote my drill around a fair bit, the charger has mostly lived on a shelf in the basement. With no inkling of a problem, it just quit. The drill is great, the batteries are above average, and the charger just plain stinks. (My DeWalt 12 volt of six years has gone through two pairs of batteries - and the charger keeps working.) Perhaps the "diagnotic" feature on this charger is a little too fragile.

Great Drill - Poor Charger
Like the other reviews - the drill works flawlessly and has more than enough torque. Problem is the charger quit working about 2 years of home use. That's pretty poor for sitting on the garage work bench.

Drill is great...charger is not
I purchased a 14.4 volt drill several months ago and love the power it offers, though it is a bit heavy. After only about 30 uses the charger has stopped working. For the price you should get a decent charger that will last. I have two Dewalt cordless drills that are older and have had no problems with them. I am very dissapointed in the porter cable charger.
