First Rate
Loosing the power cord on the air compressor is worth the purchase price. If you ever had to fill tires on a trailer you know what I am talking about.

Invertor works well, but keep in mind 300Watts of battery power is a small bucket of power, don't try any inductive loads. I managed to burn out the invertor. Xantrax honored the warantee and replace the unit no questions asked. Refreshing change after dealing with Sony's warantee department!

Highly recommended

instant AC power
If your power goes out you can live, for a while, with no lights. The operation of a sump pump is a different matter. Last year I spent 5 hours bailing a sump pump hole with a plastic pitcher. Not enjoyable. I went everywhere looking for this type of unit and spent an hour on the internet. The Xantrex 852-1840 generator seems to be a great insurance policy.

Good overall; takes a long time to charge
Overall, I am pleased with this product. However, I ran into the same issues addressed by Ron Campbell in his review. Although the manual states it takes about 40 hours to recharge using the AC adapter (plus an additional 15 hours if you don't see the green light after 40 hours), it took more like 72 hours before I got the green light indicating full charge. The owner's manual states that longer charge times are indicative of less than 120 volts at the wall outlet. I find it hard to believe that my three-year-old house does not have 120 volts at the outlets, but I guess that is possible.

I bought this to use as an emergency jump-start unit and to add air to my tires after they are deflated for offroad travel. It seems to suit my needs. I would recommend this product, but be aware that the charge times may take twice as long as those stated by the manufacturer.

Very Useful
I have found it to hold a charge very well. It is great to have a back-up when rv camping. It is also reassuring to know that when camping in remote areas that you have an emergency if your vehicle doesn't start. I consider this a good buy.

Throw away your old charger!
I purchased this charger at the same time I bought my 14.4 cordless drill (Firestorm). This charger fully charges your Dewalt or Firestorm batteries in less than an hour (depending on how low they are when placed in the charger). My two batteries are still going strong after more than three years of frequent home use (the tune-up mode definitely helps).

Never use the 6 hr battery killer that comes with your cordless tools. This charger is definitely worth the money, considering I would have spent at least twice as much on new batteries.

It tunes them up
Replaced my old charger with this one. Made a big difference with my older batteries that would not take much of a charge. Gave some new life to them. If you are a user of cordless tools, you know that batteries are the big maintenance expense. While my figures are not scientifically valid, my best guess is that this charger will extend the life of the batteries at least 20 percent

"Tune-Up" Makes this the Better Choice
I traded up to this charger after one of my old ones quit. The "tune-up" mode really does make a difference. I tried a side by side test with my remaining old non-tune-up charger. I charged two depleted 12v batteries for 10 hours, using the "tune-up" mode on this charger. I then ran them in the same drill, and there was a noticable increase in rpm and torque with the "tuned-up" battery. The "tune-up" mode does take 8 hours, but it is only necessary every 8-10 charges. As DeWalt explains, the cells in the battery are wired in series and the "tune-up" charges the downline cells completely, where fast charging only fills the first few cells. All cordless batteries are a series of 1.5v batteries enclosed in a case. To get a full charge, all the individual batteries need to fill completely.

If you have older batteries, this charger will give them new life. It is a worthwhile upgrade even for new batteries, as it will give them better performance and perhaps, extend their life. ... Read more

A great product
I own an auto repair shop. My technition put his lab scope on this battery charger and said its output is the purest form of DC power he has ever seen, evan better than a cars alternator. Best battery charger I have ever owned, and I have owned a lot of them. I just ordered another one for home.

Delivers as Promised
I just got a Panasonic Plasma ED TV and was concerned to get a good surge protector that might also enhance the picture quality. Before getting the Monster HTS 1000 I noticed some annoying picture glitches occasionally cropping up (I get a directv standard digital signal): a kind of vague line that, especially when background colors were pretty homogenous, you could follow moving up the screen; the kind of thing you could easily overlook but once you notice it, you can't help seeing it and it drives you crazy. Since running everything going into the tv through the Monster 1000, it's completely disappeared. So, this thing really does seem to deliver on what it promises: a cleaner picture.

It really does work!
First, I can't comment on the HDTV and Satellite issues mentioned by other reviewers so I would check that out before buying.But with that being said this was a great purchase for me.And I highly recommend it.

I have been looking at fuzzy text and faint, slow moving horizontal ghosts on my Sony Trinitron TV for a while now.My Xbox connection is composite, my DVD is S-Video, my Cox cable is...well cable.For the most part I figured the poor visuals were due to the TV being low quality and the connection method.But now I know better!Let me give a brief example...

A few months ago I borrowed the S-video connector for the Xbox so I could see what the quality would look like.Of course the S-video on the Xbox rendered an image that was at least 50% better quality than the composite.That is what I would expect.I gave it back and resolved to get one later.

Last week I got the HTS-1000 and hooked up all my equipment.When I fired up the Xbox (hooked up via composite) the picture quality was about the same as it was when I hooked up the S-video.Even my wife, who thinks I am what too critical about such things, noticed the difference.She told me that she didn't expect to see a difference.She doesn't notice subtle quality in audio and video, but was surprised that she saw such a marked difference.

The cable TV is clearer, the DVD has more vivid colors...some of the improvement is hard to describe other than just saying the picture is soooo much better.

I will say this though, my home is small.The kitchen, with its high power drawing appliances, is close to the living room.All these appliances contribute to the dirty power.You could see less improvement if your home is laid out differently or have newer appliances.

I didn't give it 5 stars because it is bulky.It has plenty of room for power bricks, but it has a high profile.The strip that Monster sells that has a slim profile doesn't have room for bricks.Also, the schema for what devices are switched and what aren't doesn't make sense to me, but it is nice to have 4 outlets that are constant power.

Summary:If you have lines, ghosts, poor color, whatever...try this out it could make a world of difference.

Unit did not work with my Direct TV
This unit did not work at all with my Direct TV receiver. I have a new Direct TV HD-Tivo DVR-250. It's an all in one unit. After hooking it up correctly, I could not receive any satellite signal. Removed this surge protector and everything went back to normal. I don't think it supports everything. Better check before you buy.

Does not support HDTV!!!!
I bought this unit to protect my new 51" HDTV and as soon as I plugged the coax video RG-6 cable into the unit to protect my link from the cable provider to the set-top box I lost 1/2 of my HD channels.I called Monster tech support and was told that the unit did not pass all the high frequency signals needed for HDTV.He did say they they would ship me out a Monster HT200 which would pass the HD signals. But it never arrived.After waiting two weeks I email their tech support and got a call where Eric V said he would mail me out a HT200.In all I would stay away from this product if you are trying to protect your HDTV until they modify the product.

DOA
I received this generator from Amazon, prepared it per the included instructions, cranked it up, and immediately realized that it has two big problems: Voltage is only 107V, and it started making a gawdaful screeching sound after running for about 60 seconds. Screeching seems to be coming from the genset itself (not the engine), possibly indicating a bad bearing in the generator. Not good!

The fact that it made it out of the factory in this condition tells me that Porter Cable is doing a poor job of Quality Assurance. Also since I bought it from Amazon rather than a local retailer, I obviously can't take it back to the store for an exchange...I am forced to lug this heavy thing to the nearest factory service center. In retrospect, I might have been better off buying it locally.

Even though it doesn't have all the features that they advertise, it is a good generator. They advertised it as having an hour meter and full power switch. It has neither. I did a lot of research, (weeks) on different generator features before purchasing this one. So when I did get it and it didn't have all the features that it was supposed to, I was disappointed.
But, If you're looking for using primarily 120 volts, this is the one for you. It has (2) 20 amp GFCI duplexes- (four grounded plug-ins) Plus it has a Nema L5-30 amp 120 volt plug-in. I purchased a 10 gauge extension cord that plugs in to the L5-30 Nema and on the other end it has 2 duplexes. This gives me 8 grounded plug-ins. total. Of course you still can't go over the 62.5 maximum constant rated amps while doing so. It does have a large surge rating of 10,750 watts, 89 amps for motor starting power
The engine started on the first pull as it should, and ran great. The Vanguard engine is supposed to be Briggs & Stratton's best engine. The Idle control works great too.
I would recommend downloading the PDF manual on any generator before purchasing. And then carefully compare all the features to their advertisement. I noticed many advertising mistakes on a lot of different generators out there.
Comparing power to price, this generator is hard to beat!

If you are looking for value...
This is your generator. Noise signature is more than tolerable although I agree with the previous poster - I wouldn't want any of these things outside my bedroom window. The compression release makes for a very easy pull if you don't have electric starter connected.

A "REAL" generator
There are lots of generators out there, and deciding on which to purchase can be complicated. I based my decision on getting one larger than I thought I would need so that it would not spend its life stressed to its limit. Although I had to purchase this generator elsewhere (...) and I ended up paying more for it, I am glad I did finally get it.

I suggest that you have some assistance on hand to get the VERY heavy box into your garage to set it up. Assembly took me about an hour or so, so you should be up and running in a short time. The only problem I had were the holes in the frame for mounting the rear legs were not tapped and the supplied bolts were not self-tapping (or at least to say that they were not very good at it- ther tips being quite large with no relief slot in them to cut the metal), so I had to use a 1/4 x 20 tap to create the threads before inserting the bolts. If you don't have a tap you could easily replace the bolts with some better self-tapping bolts- they are 1/4 x 20 x 1" I think.

The Vanguard motor is made in Japan and seems to be a very high quality item. Once filled with oil and fueled up it started the first time on the second or third pull adnran smoothly after about a five minute warm up in cold weather (mid- 40's F.). Pulling on the starter rope seemed quite easy and I suspect that this motor has some sort of compression relief. For anyone of average strength, I think that the starting battery would only be needed in very cold weather.

Although I would not want it running next to my bedroom all night, it does run quite a bit quieter than a lot of other generators I have heard.

Be aware that most localities require a special set up if you want to power an entire home with a generator. This special switch box is not included and it needs to be wired by a qualified electrician. If you just run some heavy extension cords to the generator, then this is not necessary. This means that to power a water well or other 220 equipment like central air conditioners the box will be necessary.

To test it, once it had warmed up, I had the idle control on (low idle speed engaged) and plugged in my portable circular saw. I hit the trigger on the saw and the generator immediately came up in RPM and the saw went to full power as if it were plugged into the wall.

Be aware that when using voltage sensitive devices and light loads like an incandescent light or two, the idle control has to be off as the generator cannot sense these small loads and will not come up to a power-prodicing RPM. My trouble light would not do anything but glow dimly at the low idle speed.

This thing is large and has a huge alternator in it. With a 10,500 watt surge rating it should handle most all your needs- maybe not all at once, but for most households this is going to be a real handy tool to have around when the lights go out.

BTW- The motor and the alternator section each have a 2 year warranty! At this price I found nothing to compare to the BS750. ... Read more

A silver bullet for interference issues?
My short review...

I'll start by saying I am NOT a Monster Cable fan.I think for the most part they sell overpriced cables and interconnects to unsuspecting consumers and laugh all the way to the bank.

However, in this case, I had just bought a new HD TV, and found that I could now see substantial interference on analog cable channels, as well as minor interference from any input.

After consulting several experts, I was told that I could have 1 of 3 things going on, and most likely a combination of at least 2 of them... 1.) Cable line ground-loop interference 2.) Power line ground-loop interference 3.) General RF interference.

Looking around at different power conditioners and cable-line isolators brought my to this Monster Cable product.I purchased it keeping in mind Amazon's excellent customer service on returns.

I was more than ready to be skeptical.

I hooked everything up, ran the cable line through it, and powered on.The difference in the video interference problem was pretty profound.I'd say there was a 95% improvement, and I can only see the interference now if I'm looking for it.

Supposedly this product was really designed to help my audio system (and the video cleaning was an addition), but I have not had time to give my setup an in-depth listen since installing the PowerCenter.To be fair, I've never had a complaint about my audio, as "crackles" and interferences occur very, very rarely.

Saved my car'sbattery all winter so far..
Installed the 2W on my classic car. For past 5 years I've had to go out and run it for about an hour per month but I put the solar charger on it and have not had to do it. Left it for 4 months and just went to test it. Battery is perfect. When I bought it I called their tech support who guided me to what I needed. Great product, great company.

Makes a great backup kit
The battery saver SE 18 works really great. I use it to charge my 12V battery to run some appliances when the power goes out. I bought a couple of 12V flourescent lights with a small inverter to run a radio and made myself a really simple backup kit. I used to have to plug in a battery charger every couple of weeks to keep the battery from discharging. With the solar panel, I just leave it connected and my battery is always charged, no hassles and no worrying about being in the dark!

Great Product
Last summer I was fishing with my buddies. I did not realize I was draining my boat battery by running the drink fridge and stereo off of the main battery. When it was time to head back to shore, the motor would not turn over. The charge from the battery was to weak. Since purchasing and using the BATTERYSAVER SE6, I have never had a problem with a weak or dead battery in my boat. Also when the fishing season is over and I have to store my boat, I no longer have to take out the battery. I simply leave the BATTERYSAVER SE6 hooked up to the battery and it keeps it charged throughout the off season, so that when fishing season starts up again, my battery is fully charged and already in place on the boat. No more battery problems
I'm actually writting this review on behalf of both my wife and myself. We're a senior couple (but still young at heart!) from Portland, OR. We have an old Chevrolet Chevette that we use once in a while to pick up some groceries, but mostly it just sits out in the driveway. A few months ago we were having problems starting the car. Our mechanic said it was because we didn't use it enough and that the battery would drain itself. He was the one that suggested the BatterySaver solar charger to keep our battery charged while it was not in use. Amazon had exactly what we needed and it works great! New technology
Finally a manufacturer designed a battery charger using the same switching technology that makes computer power supplies so small, light, and powerful. Output is insensitive to input voltage drops, meaning, contrary to instructions, you can very conveniently use a light extension cord and still get full output. Disadvantage?: It is light enough to easily topple if not placed securely. Hefty output cables, battery clamps, and case with cable storage compartment. Budget audiophile tweak
I'm an audio guy first, so I can tell you first hand, yes, this has improved the imaging and dynamics of my system.For video applications, colors are more vivid, pictures sharper, and even cable TV looks better.

This is [money] well spent.Give it a week to break in, and you'll really start to notice how much you're enjoying music and watching movies, with this hooked into yer system.

Do I actually notice a difference? No. But...
...at least somebody is catering to this market. There are so many products out there (cables, power, etc.) that are so obviously designed to make money by giving you the cheapest possible components.I purchase my Monster products with delight because at least they APPEAR to care about quality. I have never actually compared this power strip to another by watching the same video feed and cannot say for sure that it does what it says with regard to filtering AC pollution. BUT, I do know that AC pollution exists and sometimes my mobile video equipment will pick up radio signals and corrupt microphone recordings. This power strip does completely eliminate RF (radio frequency) interference, and that alone made it worth the purchase for me.

For emergency use
I have one of these power inverters for those instances (about 3 times/year)of power losses from rain- or snow-storms. Between my car, the car battery and the power inverter, I have the equivalent of a generator. Be sure to determine the wattage of the electrical devices that will be powered. A 32"-TV will require about 190 watts; floor- or desk lamps require about 75 watts each; a laptop computer needs about 47 watts. This unit does not have enough "juice" to power a 23-cuft refrigerator
(not a problem in my neighborhood because power normally gets restored within 3 days)

Before you buy
This item is not compatible with a cigarette lighter. I bought one and it came with two connectors to attach directly to the terminals on a car battery. The instruction manual specifically states that the 700 unit cannot be powered by a cigarette lighter, but the smaller 400 and 175 models can. ... Read more
