    Amazon.com Review

This multi-purpose, heavy-duty shop fan features high-velocity, air-beam technology that puts air where it’s needed for improved ventilation--perfect for the garage, workshop, or basement. Its heavy-duty, powder-coated base allows for pointing the head in any direction; point it in one direction for cooling off, straight up for better air circulation, or down for drying painted or varnished items. There are also three different speeds to choose from for precise air control: 950, 1200, or 1550 RPM. The fan itself is made of a nearly indestructible polypropylene body and a durable steel base. For increased accessibility and grab-and-go portability, this fan offers a comfort-grip carrying handle and an extra-long, 10-foot, grounded, 110-120-volt AC cord with storage capability. Its long-life, ball-bearing motor never needs oil and is dust resistant, while the patented removable grill makes cleaning easy--just wipe clean with a warm, soapy cloth. Measuring just 17-1/2 by 14-1/2 by 16-1/4 inches and weighing only 14-1/2 pounds, it's easy to place this fan in an ideal location while in use or to tuck it out of the way for storing. The Vornado heavy-duty shop fan is made in the USA and boasts a lifetime warranty. --Catie Unger ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fan! What's not to like?
I own a couple Vornados and am definitely addicted. So when I saw color from the ususaly B&W folks at Vornado I had to buy. This thing looks neat and it arrived in fine condition. The padded handle, the fat pipe base, the long grounded cord and a place to store the extra. I like it and I like that it's made in the US and has a lifetime warranty. Way to go Vornado!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not all it's cracked up to be
I have always been impressed with Vornado products. Therefore, I was lured into purchasing this fan when it arrived in my "Gold Box" as a special purchase. However -- as the saying goes -- all that glitters is not gold. My Vornado fan arrived broken: The front protective grill is made out of cheap plastic, and due to one of the plastic clips being broken, the front grill will not stay in place. It literally falls off.

Despite that, I still tried to use the fan. The fan produces a "stream" (tunnel) of air into one location, and does not cool a wide area.

If you want a fan that will only direct air into one spot, this fan might be fine. But if you want over-all all-room cooling, this is not a good choice. ... Read more

    4-0 out of 5 stars It's just a fan
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the other reviews on this item made it sound like this fan was some miraculous new advance in electric fan technology. I bought it, and I'm satisfied with my purchase, but so far it hasn't radically changed my life and I'm not in any hurry to tell all my friends to go out and buy 10 of them. It's a fan. You turn it on, it blows air. It doesn't seem to blow air any further than any other fan I've had. It works fine in my average-sized bedroom. It is pretty quiet and is small, two features I like. I think I'd like it a little more if it had the ability to oscillate back and forth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Power in a Small Package
You cannot find a more powerfull fan in such a small package. It has stepless speed control. At the highest speed it blasts as much air as a massive box fan on high except it does it in a higher velocity compact stream of air. It is amazing how this stream stays together over a long distance without much divergance. This meant I could use it to channel air directly into my bedroom 25 feet and two rooms away from my single window unit airconditioner. It is somewhat noisy at its highest speed because of that massive volume of air being moved. At its lowest speed it gives a nice breeze and is very quiet.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Hail the Tiny Tornado!
This little "air circulator" is to fans what the Bose Wave Radio is to stereo systems: you simply can't believe the amount of output coming from such a compact source. It seems to transcend physical reality. As a drummer in a doo wop band, I have used one of these "Tiny Tornados" onstage for a number of years now, and nothing else comes close when it comes to blowing a strong, quiet stream of air to keep me cool. Other musicians interested in using the fan for this purpose will be pleased to hear that the little Vornado has NEVER given off any hum or unwanted electrical noises that showed up in a sound system, despite the constant suspicions of band members and sound technicians alike. I don't know what to make of the one other customer who was disappointed by this fan, unless he accidentally bought an inferior copycat version -- there are some around -- made by another company. Simply the best little fan in the world!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a keeper, but just one caveat...
I bought this fan because I wanted something to run during the night at low speed that would not make the noise my hardy old box fan does.

And it is perfect for that purpose, creating just the right breeze that will keep you cool, without disturbing.

So I agree with everything else that has been written about this.

I will just say that there is one thing this little guy cannot do, which is draw in cool air from outside when you place it at the window. Nothing beats your $10 box fan in that.

WIth one of each, you're just about covered...

    5-0 out of 5 stars Fan-myster! Faboulous
I will never forget the summer of 1986, wife pregnant and the central air zonked out. I ran to the nearest large store to grab a fan and actually i was going to grab any fan. I was walking down the fan isle when i noticed 3 to 4 people grouped in front of this small looking yet powerful fan. They were laughing and feeling good. It obviously made everyone cooler. I noted the blades were quite different allowing them to circulate air at a awsome speed. The output shocked and amazed me. I got lucky and grabbed the last one and headed home. Please dont take my word for it just go see a demo. Mine is still working great to this day.My son Peter enjoys it as much as we do! This fan is a winner in all ways. Thanks for listening to Bill ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Mighty Wind!
...This little fan lives up to it's reputation. My husband is one of those types who has to have a fan circulating air all year long in our stuffy bedroom - (even in the winter & we live in Wisconsin!) & the Vornado 610W does the job beautifully. The lowest setting is quiet and comfortable on all but the hottest of eves, when the medium speed, coupled with our air conditioner, works just fine. The best part is that you don't have to have it blowing right on you to feel the effects -- the air in the whole room circulates very efficiently. Well worth the money & if you are short on space, this unit fits just about anywhere - floor, table, or window ledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars ACTUALLY DOES WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO!
We have a 65 year-old home with poor circulation in the 2 upstairs bedrooms; they're always 5 degrees warmer in the summer and 5 degrees colder in the winter than the rest of the house. A heating and cooling company was going to charge almost $1,000 to put booster fans in the ductwork. Out of desperation (and I'm a cheapskate also) I bought 2 of these 610W Vornados, and placed them over the floor ducts, and Viola', it fixed the problem (3 degrees better, anyways).
My Mom has had the 500 series fan for about 10 years, but it doesn't circulate nearly as much air, and the bearings don't have a lifetime guarantee like the 610W, and, sure enough, they finally failed this past summer... So the 610W is well worth the extra $15 or $20 bucks to get better airflow and lifetime bearings.
Our rooms are 12' x 12', and this fan does a great job; I suspect that, if you have a larger room, the 750 series would do a better job than this one.
Another side benefit of the 610W is just enough background hum with the fan running (24/7 in our home)to block out the constant traffic noise from the major highway we live off of: the kids sleep much better now. This is truly a great product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Small & Powerful
I love this light weight, powerful little fan! The first time I turned it on, I had my face square in front of it and it literally took my breath away! It does a fantastic job of circulating the air and cooling the room(s). I also like the fact that it is light weight enough to easily move and small enough to fit just about anywhere. Very definitely a good buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps me cool
Its pricy yes, but it keeps me cool whenever I need to be cool. And I am not a small guy either. It will keep you cool, its quiet, and doesn't get overheated (if you touch a box fan in the back you will burn your hand...if you don't believe me...try it). I used it in college and now I am using it at home and it provided great circulation in both places. How versatile! Great fan but didn't give it a five because of the price but if you don't mind the price, a must buy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Fan - low air flow for the high cost
I am using this fan for about a month. True it is quite, tilt-able and small but it also lacks the ability to create a strong airflow for the high cost. I bought this fan when my 5yr old box fan, cost about $15, stopped running. The box fan created at least 2x the airflow for much less cost. The reviews give an impression that this fan produces a strong airflow - not in my estimation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gets The Cigar Smoke Out!!!
Okay, your wife says you can have one room to smoke cigars, but the smoke better get exhausted, because she doesn't want the "fragrance" to permeate the rest of the castle. You try an open window...phew, doesn't work; then an air purifier; no where near enough clean air. So you call an air exchange specialist who gives you a dollar estimate that you think could buy you a Palm Springs condo. Hmm, what to do, what to do....
Get yourself an Air King 9550. This little powerhouse, on full blast, will exhaust 2181 cubic feet of air a minute, with enough force, that you don't have to worry about cold air intrusion. A room full of cigars and a lively poker game may take two 9550s, but by morning the smoke is gone. Turn the fan around for half an hour and all traces of cigar aroma are vanished as the 9550 pulls in fresh air. I tried professional model ozone generating air purifiers that cost hundreds of dollars and my cigar den remained odorous, but one 9550 did an incredible job. I bought two, thinking that one might not do the job, but the second one is now my emergency and poker night back-up.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Fan That Could

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it! Just ordered a 2nd!
We got one of these a few months ago- it's wonderful! I had originally wanted a Vornado but those were a bit expensive so I decided to give this one a try. It's a very powerful, compact fan- wonderful for those of us with very limited space. It's a little noisy, but all high-speed fans are. Given how powerful it is, it's probably on the quiet side of the high-speed fan category. It's low speed is great for sleeping- in fact we rarely use the higher speeds, even during the day. In summary, we're very happy with this purchase, so happy that we just ordered a second for our son's room.

3-0 out of 5 stars Topheavy, but very useful
Well, we broke ours within the first month. It's too topheavy for the stem to be durable. If the stem were made out of a more durable material and thicker, the fan would have received a rating of 5 without hesitation. My fella has a hairdo that scares most women and children and it takes him hours to construct it. Lots of hairspray goes into the creation and he needs a powerful, adjustable fan to blow the fumes out of the bathroom (yes, this is what I live with every day!). This fan would certainly be a godsend, were it not for the somewhat flimsy stem. Beyond that, we don't find it too noisy, the 3 speeds are great, and the adjustable sizing is perfect for hiding behind our entertainment center (we live in a 600 sf apartment, and space is tight...this fan fits our space needs perfectly).
If you can treat it with gentle respect when you move it around and don't have pets, children (or boyfriends), who are rough with products, I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fan - my friend is going to buy one too
This fan is solid, well-made, versatile and really ventilates the room well, but as with all high velocity fans it is on the loud side, even on low. It has basically three heights: you can use it as a table fan, or you can insert either or both poles to make it medium height or full standing fan height. Be forewarned though that there is a little work in doing this, but it's not difficult. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Impressed
I just received this Vornado Fan and although UPS mangled the box, the fan itself is great. I was highly impressed by the quality and the air output of this fan. For it's size it will really amaze you. The continuously variable speed is great!!!. It's not like a regular fan that has 1. 2. 3 settings you can adjust it to any output. It's whisper quiet at its lower setting but relatively loud at it's highest. The noise doesn't come from the motor but from the deep scoops of the fan blades themselves....it maybe a little loud at the higher setting but for the amount of air that it can push, highly worth it!!! The Grill and fan blade comes off easily for cleaning and Vornado offers a 5 year warranty on this model. I would recommend it to anyone

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Black Fan That Could!
I call my new Vornado 'The Little Black Fan That Could'. It's saved my life! Or at least my productivity. I plunk it down near a window and it blows fresh, cool air inside whenever it gets hot up here. My little black fan chugs on and on and on, all day and night long if I want it to with nary a complaint, which might make it even better than a boyfriend ;) It packs a mean punch, a lot more than my big, loud, cumbersome oscillating fan. I also really love the variable slide-speed thingy, which lets me decide exactly how much cool air I want. And if I move into another room, the Vornado comes with me without any lugging a big fan around.

If you are having problems with heat or air circulation, get this fan. I mean it. It looks expensive, but it's the best fan you'll ever own.

    5-0 out of 5 stars FAN-tastic Buy!
This fan is mighty powerful and the best thing about it is the fact that it's very quiet. Of all the fans I've tried this size, this is the quietest. Especially on low....you'll hardly hear it running. Great for moving a little extra air conditioning into another room. Well made. Durable. Sturdy. For the few extra dollars for a fan this size, it's adds up to a great value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vornado rocks!
It arrived today. It's June in Atlanta and I've been searching for a fan to help cool my home office. I didn't want to go to the expense of installing a ceiling fan, and felt sure that an inexpense floor or table fan would suffice. Unfortunately, I initially went to my local Target store. First I bought a 17-inch tilt-up floor fan made by Honeywell. I soon discovered that the on/off switch was cheap and that the lowest setting was enough to fly a kite in here. I took it back. My next choice was an oscillating fan on a floor stand. Cheap, cheap, cheap workmanship-- plus, you had to assemble it. The motor was metal and seemed durable enough, but once mounted, it sagged sadly toward the floor-- the plastic apparatus and stand, too weak to support it. I took it back. Ok, I told myself. Don't be in such a hurry. Go to Amazon and do some research. Vornado fans were generally given high ratings. Mine arrived and I am elated. It is just the size I need, is sturdy, the fan-speed settings are unlimited, it runs quietly, and puts out a wonderful breeze. Vornado fans have many fans (and visa versa). Now I am one of them!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great air-mover, quiet (relatively) and in a compact frame.
    4.5 stars, actually.

This fan is great. It's really small, so it can be placed in a window frame or almost any where you need air to be moved from, and doesn't obstruct like a larger, yet less-powerful fan would.

It's really powerful. It really does shoot a tight beam of air, and in turn circulates air around an entire room. This is especially helpful, in say, small, un-air conditioned dorm rooms at colleges too cheap to install AC. This fan is also very good at moving cool air from one room to another. My room at home, also, ironically, does not have AC. The family room down the hall does. So I just place this baby in the hall aimed into my room, and the lovely cold air is pulled in from the family room and shot into mine, and my room is now AC'd, somewhat.

The variable speed control is very nice, letting you control exactly how much air you want moved. The lowest speed is almost silent, but is meant more for just personal cooling, while the fastest speed is rather noisy (but nothing unbearable, it's not bad at all), it IS moving quite a large volume of air, and good for whole-room air circulation/cooling.

I would give this gem a 5, but the frame is just a bit mal-aligned. It can get bent just slightly which causes the blades to smack against the plastic frame, and while this is easily correctable, it is annoying. ... Read more

This double window fan can draw in fresh, cool air from the outside orexhaust stale, hot air from inside. Or, because of the independent draw-in andexhaust-out settings, it can do both simultaneously. With a thermostat thatturns the fan on and off according to a preset temperature level, plus threespeeds for each fan, the unit adjusts nicely to conditions. Designed to fitdouble-hung, vertical, and casement windows, the fan comes with a built-in7-inch extender and two separate 3-inch extenders, letting you custom fit it inwindows from 24 to 37 inches wide. And because the unit is lightweight plastic, you can move it easily from room to room. The fans have six blades and measure8-1/2 inches in diameter. Overall, the unit is 12-1/4 inches high, arrives fullyassembled, and carries a three-year warranty against defects. --FredBrack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Holmes HAWF-2041 Twin Window Fan
It does what I want it to - intake and exhaust. I like the sleep feature as well. It looks good and doesn't take up very much space.

5-0 out of 5 stars Controlling Humidity
We recently moved from the High Desert of California (which was very hot and dry)to Hawaii (which is very hot and humid). In California, we surrvived using a swamp cooler to provide cool, moist air. In Hawaii, good air flow is necessary to surrvive the humidity. Room fans just blow hot, humid air around inside the house. It is better than nothing, but not very effective.

We found the Holmes Window Fan which features both Intake and Exhaust options. One is installed in our kitchen window to Exhaust hot air when cooking and Intake cool air the rest of the time. Other fans are installed in bedroom windows. The one on the cool side of the house is set to Intake cool air and the other one is set to Exhaust hot air. This provides constant circulation and makes our home very comfrontable.

The only complaint we have is cleaning. One side of the fan comes completely off for easy cleaning. The other side is attached to the motors. We have to unscrew the motors and put them in zip lock baggies while we clean the rest of the fan. This could be easily corrected by making both sides independent of the motors.

Even with this inconvenience, this is the Best product we have found to keep our home cool and comfortable in a humid climate.

1-0 out of 5 stars The amazing no-breeze fan!
The breeze provided by this fan can only be likened to the movement of air inside a sealed jar sitting in the sun: the air moves, but that movement is only detectable at the molecular level. With both motors of this fan running on high intake, you can feel the air move only if you're seated directly in front of it, at a maximum distance of about 24 inches. In fact, when I plugged in this fan for the first time and turned it on, I at first thought that the fan was set on outake (i.e., pulling air out of the room); instead, the most gentle imperceptible breeze was wafting directly at me. This fan is very quiet; however, no fan would be quiet as well, while the breeze coming through the window would be about the same. To properly summarily evaluate this product, I wanted to give it no stars, to indicate the fan's complete abandonment of its function, but alas, ... rating system's lowest rating is one star. Purchase this product only if you wish to circulate air inside a small box. ... Read more

Quiet, stylish, and built of durable plastic, this big device circulates air throughout the largest rooms at home or at the office. Use it alone or with an air conditioner to cool down in the summer and to circulate heat evenly throughout a room in winter. Its powerful 112-watt motor combines with a deep-pitch propeller and a cunning grill design to move air in a tight beam up to 75 feet. For moving air up or down a stairwell or circulating air from floor to ceiling, the head pivots from an angle slightly below horizontal to straight up. It has an infinitely variable speed control, from low through high. The circulator stands 16 inches high, has a 15-1/2-inch-diameter head, weighs 12 pounds, and carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Vornado is the only brand I'll ever buy!
I wanted to comment on some of the reviews that mention that this fan is not "whisper quiet" as described by Vornado. The actual description states that the motor is whisper quiet and it is. The only "noise" from this unit is from the huge amount of air that is being pulled through it and "vortexed" across the room when set on the higher speeds. The motor itself makes virtually no noise as described and when set to lower speeds, this fan is very quiet.

I'm sure you can tell by most of the reviews here that this fan is simnply the best you can buy for the price. I also have the smaller, compact version in my bedroom and it's been running strong a couple hours a day for over 8 years. If you've never had a Vornado fan before, try one and I promise you'll never go back to "flat blades" again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet and efficient
This is a quality product (and you pay for it) that works really well. I bought one for myself a few years ago, and I use it in my home office while on concalls. The variable control is much better than pre-sets installed on other fans. It's quiet and efficient. Plus, if you set the fan across the room, you can tune the air currents to your liking.

The fan does not vibrate at all, and it does not seem to run hot. I bought one as a gift last XMAS for someone who hates air conditioning. I was worried if she let a fan run all day and night it might set a fire. The fan runs quiet and cool. I felt so confident, that I bought the smaller version for the top of my toddler's dresser to help mix the air a bit.

The peace of mind is worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
I bought this item at a local warehouse club for a great price. I've been using it for just over a week and it is by far the most effective fan I've ever had. Right now, I also have a huge box fan and 3 regular ol' oscillating fans, and none of these moves air like the Vornado. We have a 50's house with no AC (save the rooms that have window units), and it gets nearly unbearable in the summer, especially upstairs. Last week, with a few days in the 90's, I used the Vornado in front of an open window to try and bring in the cooler night air. It circulated the air so well that I ended up sleeping under my down comforter. So I've got to give this fan 5 stars for helping me sleep sweat-free at night.

No, it's not whisper quiet, but realistically, noise is inevitable from a motor that's moving a large volume of air efficiently. My box fan sounds like it's getting ready for lift-off on even the lowest setting, and it doesn't work half as well as my wonderful new Vornado. However if silence, rather than air circulation, is the priority, this is not the fan to consider.

5-0 out of 5 stars super fan!!!!!!
My life long love affair with fans go way back. I suffered with insomnia in my teens and learnt I would sleep when a fan was blowing on me. I run a fan year round (thought I was the only one, but find there are others out there!). My sinuses do not close up, and the white noise makes me sleep so peaceful. However, I need a "softer" fan for my work area. One that give plenty of air current, but since I am writing with papers about me and books, I needed one that was not a hurricane. This one is a pleasing quiet fan, good are current, but can be near silent. In Summer it makes any room cooler, in winter makes the room warmer. I am very pleased with this fan and its excellent warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Suggestion from a NJ Teacher
If you are a teacher working in a classroom that is not airconditioned, I highly recommend the Vornado 750B air circulator. I've put it on top of a filing cabinet in one corner and faced it at the opposite (farthest) corner above the heads of my high school students. No arguments about who is getting the most benefit from the fan because we can all feel the air moving around the room. We use it all year round, not just when it's warm. Even at its highest setting you can still be heard in the back of the classroom. It's sturdy and easy to wipe clean of the everpresent chalk dust. I also have a 610 in my bedroom at home to lower the costs of air conditioning. I recommend Vornado to anyone I hear complaining about energy bills or the comfort level of their home or workplace. No one has been disappointed. ... Read more

Hot time, summer in the city--there's nothing like a powerful fan to keep you cool and collecteddespite the heat. The Blizzard oscillating fan from Holmes features three speed settings and a hard-workingBlizzaire motor to ensure you have the temperature control to keep your wits about you. The fan headfeatures a swirling grill design, adjustable for complete control over the tilt angle, and can oscillate fromany position. 3-0 out of 5 stars Like other reviews, it is just too loud
It does what it is supposed to do - push air... and this it does quite well. Unfortunately, I bought this fan to use at work and the noise is just way too much. At three feet away and pointing away from me, clients on the phone asked me if I was in some sort of tunnel. The noise prevents this fan from being desirable. Like other reviewers mentioned, it would work great if used as combination fan / sound machine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I bought the latest model, which has a thermostat in it's base. It has an electronic, single push-button thermostat that can be set at 60, 65, 70, 75, or 80 room temp. Has green lights under each temp setting, and red lights for high and low. Thermostat is very accurate! You can use low speed with thermostat, high speed with thermostat, or just low and high speed always on. This fan is small, un-obtrusive, and has oscillation and tilt. I have used this fan for 2 nights now, and it's great for the bedroom. You select your temp, set it on low, and forget it. If your room falls below temp selected, it turns off. If it warms up again, it comes back on! Moves lots of air on low! High speed is not for sleeping! Quite a bit of wind sound on high. Low speed will cool a 14' x 16' living room. Fan is quiet on low speed.

3-0 out of 5 stars good blower
It does circulate a lot of air and keep me cool.I like this feature. But it sounds like a jet engine, just matches its name--blizzard.I dare not set it on high or even medium, because I am afraid of waking up my roommate adjoining.

4-0 out of 5 stars great fan
i have had this fan for a couple years now, and i love it. i do admit that it's a little noisy on the high setting, but if it's hot, who cares! it's compact yet powerful, i highly suggest it.

With its trim design and versatile programming, this Bionaire digital tower fan is a welcome alternative to bulky standard models. Designed to stand on the floor, the fan cools and circulates effectively, thanks to its high-performance centrifugal blades and a bi-directional louver that distributes air well with minimal turbulence. The control panel is streamlined and includes a digital thermostat, selectable oscillation, and three speeds. The fan's 16-hour timer is especially helpful--it can be programmed to turn the motor on or off in one-hour intervals. Bionaire also includes a remote control for added convenience. 1-0 out of 5 stars Poor construction and quality
I purchased this fan from Amazon several months ago and it is already in the garbage. The assembly is very easy and only requires a few moments and a phillips screwdriver. Unfortunately the plastic is very flimsy and thin and does not inspire confidence in the overall quality. The fan operated very well initially and the remote control was intuitive and easy to operate. Within a few weeks, however, the fan was making high pitched squealing sounds (imagine an old fan belt on a cold winter morning). I tried all the different speeds and settings, turing off the oscillation, positioning the fan on different surfaces, etc. Nothing fixed the problem.

I've never considered myself a high-maintenance consumer, but this purchase was very disappointing. I'd recommend one of the other brands or models, though many of the oscillating tower fans seem to have this same complaint. I have had good luck with Holmes products in the past (although this model carries the Bionaire tag), but I'd like to prevent other customers from the trouble I experienced with this model. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Who would have thought of the technology innovations that could be applied to fans? This model requires some assembly - and you'll need to pay careful attention to the directions, which is a large folded page. Read the instructions, look carefully at the pieces, and the assembly will take less than five minutes. All you'll need is a screw driver.

The fan itself it a remarkable piece of technology, made all the more remarkable by the fact that it comes with a remote control at such a low price.

When you first operate it you'll think something's wrong because it will oscillate, stop and seem to shut down, then pick up again. This is normal, and after you get used to it you will discover that this behavior was designed to move air in the most efficient manner - both from an efficient use of electricity, and from an effective pattern for moving air and keeping you cool.

The on-fan and remote controls are easy to operate and give you a great deal of control over speed, oscillation, and even timing its turn-on time. Considering the price, performance and wealth of features this is one of the best bargains you'll find - and worth any price on a humid, hot Florida night when you are enjoying fresh air on your patio. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Quiet at first, but loud after one year
I have the HT30RC verstion of this fan, which is the same thing, but with a remote control. When I first got the fan, it was very quiet and worked well in my bedroom. However, after only having the fan for one year, the motor starts making this knocking noise every time the fan is on for longer then 30 minutes or so... The noise is loud enough to disturb my sleep.
Further, I tried looking up the fan on Holmes website, but they've already pulled all support for the fan. It's like it never existed.
Your mileage may vary, but I feel I deserved to use the fan for longer than a year before started acting up, especially considering the price I paid for it.

***Update*** Two days after writing this article, I tried taking the fan apart to fix it. A little WD-40 at the motor spindle and everything is as good as new. This would probably raise my rating to a four... I think Holmes should at least still list the fan on their website!

4-0 out of 5 stars I just purchased this fan....
I just purchased this fan. My main reason was the Holmes name and the fact it took up little space. It's hard to find a standing fan that doesn't have a large round base.

Anyway, I like the fan so far...I am running it on high to get enough power out of it. But, it's pretty quiet and safe from little kid fingers which is a big plus.

3-0 out of 5 stars Searching for my 3rd "Tower Fan" - replacement...
OK - I am on the hunt to replace my 2nd tower fan which has just died, like it's predecessor. The first tower fan I purchased was the costly "Bionaire", w/remote etc... not on sale, I paid about $85. This Bionaire fan just stopped one day, it was only 6 months old. The warranty, (15 years - wow!) is way more trouble than it's worth and entails further layout of cash - so it's basically "useless".

Second Tower Fan I bought for $39 - made by "Seville", & not as many features but that's ok since I didn't use them on the previous model anyway. This fan lasted 1.5 years, and at least gave me a warning by stopping one day, but starting up again a minute later, this was about two weeks before blowing it's final breeze. In comparison to the first based on the cost to life ratio, this fan was much better, but neither lived as long as expected...

Now I will try this fan and see how long it lasts - but it appears these tower fans generally don't have a long "life expectancy". Given that, don't spend too much on one of these - since they are all made in china and PROBABLY by the same company anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fan with nice options
... I recently bought one and like it a lot. The fan has many nice features for such a small price... It has a remote control that allows one to use all features via remote -- that includes on/off, fan speed, oscillation, timer and a special feature that automatically changes the fan speed if you want a more natural air-flow feeling. I feel the fan has a lot of blowing power even on the lowest speed. The compact design makes integrating it into any room a cinch. I will definitely buy more of these fans to have throughout my house.

1-0 out of 5 stars Weak! Stopped working!
Plain and simple: buying this fan was a waste of money. The circulation was really weak unless you had it on the highest setting and less than ONE FOOT away from you. What made matters worse was that one day, it just stopped working. A couple days later, it just came on again on its own - only to stop working AGAIN a few days after that. All in all, a tremendous waste of money and time, a terrible inconvenience, and a horrible fan. ... Read more

Doing double duty, this heater warms up a chilly basement orenclosed porch and then switches to fan-only mode to cool off a hotbedroom. Blowing fan-forced air, the upright heater makes a noticeabledifference in the air temperature within 30 seconds but is extremelyquiet in its delivery. 4-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for - this is not so bad...
Despite the reivews of others, I was looking for a cheap way to heat my office, and this has done the trick so far. Yes, this is a cheap - cheap prodcut; all palstic parts, could easily break if you don't pay attention. It does the job. It can heat my 12'x12' office from 57 degrees to 73 degrees in about 1/2 hour. This does not put out high heat - but it does put out good consistant heat. You are getting what you pay for here. For under $25.00 people should expect so much from a product like this. Stay warm!

Doesn't put out much heat. I have to sit right on top of it. And my dial broke immediately, too. It pushes right beyond the highest setting, in which case I get no heat at all.
