What a useful light!!
This hat is great!! The 4 position light adjusts easily to just where I need to see and is great for outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. It doesn't just stop there, though. I have used it to walk my dog at night, to work on my truck in the dimly lit garage and to even barbeque for dinner. The 2 AAA batteries are easily replaced and the foam protector on the inside covers the light and slim battery pack and makes it comfortable and hardly noticed. Be advised that MagLite has changed the content of this kit. Instead of red and amber lenses, the kit now has red, blue, and clear lenses. (The part number of the kit is still AM2A016.)

Cool extras for your double A mini mag.
This is a great accessory pack. The rubber lens cover allows you to change lenses quickly, the red lens allows you to do things in the dark while maintaining your night vision, and the other accessories allow you to carry your flashlight just about anywhere. The only problem is that the different lenses are really easy to lose if your not using them.

Great for astronomy
The red lens is great for astronomy because it does'nt destroy your night-vision like a white lightbulb does. The other accessories are handy so you don't lose your flashlight when you are looking through your telescope.

The Colored Lenses are the best!

Perfect for what I needed
I haven't used any other LED flashlights before, so I cannot give you an aficionado's opinion, but I will say that I love it. It lasts for many times longer that a regular flashlight on 3 AA's, which aren't included for some reason.
The main reason you would buy this flashlight is as a reading light. It is not, in my opinion, powerful enough for many outdoor purposes, but for reading, it's perfect. And the light itself is different from that of a bulb flashlight: In a bulb flashlight, you have an adjustable ring of light, but however you adjust it, there will be parts of the ring of light that comes out that you are always going to want to keep focused on the words you're reading. In this flashlight, a diffuse glow lights up the whole page, and it is so much easier and comfortable. And don't get me wrong when I say it's not as bright as a regular bulb; it not that much of a difference, unless you're outside, partially because the beam is not as focused, so it won't illuminate something very far away. But this can also have a survival aspect to it, as it lasts for so long. One minor downside: the light more of a blueish tinge than I'm used to. Regular flashlights have a yellow tinge. But it's well worth it, in my opinion.

An interesting item
A nice unit. I bought it mainly for the battery longevity and to try the new technology. I haven't had it long enough to comment on the battery longevity. Otherwise, probably it's best advantage is the light being "close to natural light". This can help in differentiating between dark brown, grey, or navy socks in a dark sock drawer. Or between olive green and charcoal grey slacks in a dark closet. Otherwise, it doesn't put out as much light as most other small flashlights, say, like a Maglite. Just Excellect
Very powerful light beam that can be focused at different circular ranges. It reminded me of cars light = so powerful and useful for desert trips and darky nights.

Don't get me wrong, the MiniMag's great...
I used a MiniMag AA for years. It's just that there's a better product out there - the Pelican Versabrite II. It looks like a pager with a flashlight head stuck on top on a pivot. The body has clips to attach to a belt or hat brim for hands-free use...or you can just put it in your shirt pocket with the head protruding.

It lacks the beam focus feature of the Maglite, but otherwise is just as bright and more useful - I have a professional use for a small, bright light (the hands-free use is important when you have to take notes at night), and the Pelican is better enough to justify the extra two dollars or so.

I don't have any connection with Pelican or anyone who sells their products, I just think they make a superior double-AA cell flashlight... ... Read more

Keeps flashlight from rolling around
Mag should sell the rubber anti-roll device with all their flashlights. It's so nice to set the flashlight down and not have it roll all around. The flashlight holder is a nice bonus. The colored lenses I haven't used yet. Kind of pricey add-on just to get the anti-roll device, but who wants a flashlight that rolls all over the place.

excellent accessories!
All are good quality. We have the brackets in the hallway to the basement and another set in the garage so we're ready when the power goes off (often). They are well made and really hold the flashlight in snugly, even in the vertical position which worked well for our locations. As for the colored lenses. I like to look at bugs at night and my husband has a telescope so these lenses have come in handy when we're outside at night and don't want to have to keep adjusting our eyes. Great value and great product!

The Good:
Mounting Brackets. These mouthing brackets are excelent. I love having my flashlight hanging from the wall, it just looks great.

The OK.
Anti Roll Device. This is great if you if say you are sitting at a desk and you want your flashlight to rest on the desk. It does its job well, but I haven't found too many uses for it.

The Bad.
Red, amber, and blue lenses. These are a real hassle to get into the flashlight, at least for me. Once in they look ok, but served me no good purpose. ... Read more
