5-0 out of 5 stars Now that's a chalk box!
If you are sick and tired of the plastic junky chalk boxes that should be sold in the toy department, you will love this Tajima chalk box. I have the Tajima Ink Rite and love it, so when I saw this Tajima chalk box, I had to give it a try. First of all it is very good looking, fits in your hand nicely, and is geared to rewind very, very fast. Unlike most chalk boxes with a cheap cotton string, this box has a very strong nylon string. You have to get use to a little stretch on long snaps, but once you are use to that, it is the best. The nylon string gives you a better snap and holds the chalk more evenly so you get a nice line. Also consider getting the Tajima chalk, it is a very fine powder and gives you a nice clean line. Highly recommend, this tool fits in nicely with the other premium tools you are now seeing on the job site. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a stud finder that works!
I have tried 3 devices like this over the years. All of them were a pain to "calibrate" and did not work well.I bought this out of frustration a week ago when trying to find a stud with a Stanley unit which was very unrepeatable. This Straitline worked easily and very accurately first try. Also the marker is great!Highly recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely useless
I tried using this product on my drywall to find studs so I can hang a mirror, but either this machine is defective or completely unreliable. It will find a stud in a place, but after recalibrating, it won't find the stud! Sometimes, it thinks the entire wall has one big stud behind it and keeps beeping continously. It's completely unreliable and extremely frustrating. I don't recommend buying this device, at least not from an online store (returning it is a hassle).

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Stud Finder Yet!
I have used many before, but this one is the best. Simple and effective, the lcd screen is great and it's greatfor the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Working alone? There is NO question: You need these!
I recently finished siding my 2-story colonial with 5.25" (4" exposure) Hardie Boards. It took me about 3 springs/summers of weekends since I did 99% of it completely alone.

I did not start using these until last year (year 3).At that point I only had 25% of the house done.Between these gauges, pump jacks, and a pneumatic siding nailer, I got nearly the other 75% done in one season. But if I could have only kept one tool that was an absolute necessity for working alone, it would have been these.

They are easy to set up and insert, and do a great job holding a course on the wall, especially when working alone. When butt-joining, I would hang a piece on these, then remove the one nearer to the joint and use the other as just a support or "shelf."

Here is my advice as a homeowner who installed Hardieboards by himself:
1.Get these gauges!
2.Expect that over many squares, the bottom edges might get a little worn, perhaps requiring a gentle tap with a hand or hammer to get them to sit on the top course quickly.
3.If you are using the 5.25 (4" exposure) boards, you should STILL use some type of measurement gauge. The 5.25" does in fact dip slightly if you put the gauges near each end of a 12' board.I don't know if this happens with the bigger exposure boards but I would guess that it is not as much. Also, you may have to make your own measurement gauge for the 4" exposure. The Malco one starts at 5"

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandatory Tool for Siding Work
Anyone installing fiber cement siding needs these gauges. Quantum leap in siding installation process, dramatically cuts time required for job, no measuring of overlap, no time needed to check siding with level. Gauges will assure identical overlap and level siding. Makes siding job look almost perfect. Very simple to use. Essential if you work alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars working mans tool
this tool works real well, makes siding faster and better looking, because of the even spacing

2-0 out of 5 stars too many steps
This tool is a good idea but I found it was too many steps. Its not that it didn't work but I tried another gauge that was similar and it seemed to be more user friendly with less steps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
This item should be recommended in James Hardie's installation instructions as are the Makita and Hitachi products.Don't bother trying to make other jigs to set the height of the planks, this is accurate and easily operated with one hand (gauge placement, panel release, and gauge removal).Follow the recommended minimum lateral spacing between the gauge and the closest fasterner or damage can occur to the bottom of the panels when released from the gauge. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mirka Rules!
Mirka paper is not only the quality choice; it is also a bargain at Amazon prices. I had previously purchased a full box of Mirka paper for my 6" sander, in the most popular grades. Have since done a lot of sanding with it. This brand of sandpaper is great. It is aluminum oxide which lasts and lasts. Additionally the backing pad is made from thick material, so it holds up well, and won't bugger the edges of your sander.
I had a body shop for twenty years, and came to realize the advantage of quality sandpaper. The cheap stuff does not hold up. You will go through a zillion sheets of paper, and will actually cost you more because of it. The Mirka paper lasts so long, that I wind up with a used stack. By the time it is to change to a different grit, the existing piece isn't worn out yet, so I keep them.
I went into Home Depot and checked out the Norton paper, I wasn't impressed. It also costs less per box, but they only give you 25 sheets instead of 50 like these Mirka boxes. So you get twice as many sheets here for only half again as much money. Not only is it a bargain up front, then the paper lasts a lot longer, not to mention the superior job it produces. You can't beat that.
This is the paper deal you want. Load up. Mirka rules.

1-0 out of 5 stars This stuff won't stick to my Porter Cable 333 hook & loop
This is the worst paper I have ever used!!!

It will not stay on my sander. Any other brand's of paper I have used have all stayed on, but this stuff won't. I wish I had as good of luck with Mirka as every one else did on this review.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This has been the best I have used. It will outlast 3m by 2 to 1. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smiply the best....
When I bought my sander I thought the manufactures brand would be the best....... not so. A good friend suggested I try Mirka sanding disks and I am sure glad I did. I use hook and loop on 4 different sanders I own and have yet to loose a Mirka disk yet. A few others I have tried did not hold well and loaded up very easy. Nothing anyone says will prove the quality better than trying them yourself.... you will be back for more!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excuse my dust
I build Western Red Cedar outdoor furniture and needed a good sander and sandpaper that would hold up to all day usage. I purchased the variety pack and find that all grades of paper to solve my everyday needs for finishing my chairs. I've tried other brands and they all seemed to evaporate quickly. I find the Mirka discs to be of good quality and their longevity is impressive enough for me to buy them again. ... Read more

Let the cat have your plumb bob for a toy, and toss that24-inch level while you're at it: Stabila's in the house! No moresneaky doors that swing open after hanging; this 32-inch level willmake sure you've set the header and sill perfectly, and the 78-inchlevel fits easily into an 80-inch frame. Stabila has built hand-gripopenings in these levels, making overhead measurements a breeze andlessening your chances of dropping them onto the floor--or your head.Even the 78-inch level is light but incredibly sturdy. We like thegrippy wall pads that keep you from slipping, sliding, and scribing aslope. The vials are epoxy-locked and easy to read--we clambered undera table in bad lighting with the 32-inch level and had no problemreading it. 4-0 out of 5 stars Missing Something
A great setup, except the set needs to come with a 30" level instead of a 32". The most common dorr size in a house is a 2-6 or 30". a 24" level is just too short and a 32" is just a hair long with the caps removed. These levels are top of the line. A must for all finish carpenters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why Not Have The Best
If you set alot of steel frame doors, or pre hungs, you will love this level set.I know you cant always set pre-hungs level if you're following a wall reveal. But if you have to set steel frames for masonry or metal framing, you can throw away your plumb bob, [spend the extra money for the magnetics if you do alot of metal]. These are faster and just as accurate as a palm laser at half the cost! No I dont work here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not perfect
I won't repeat the praise of others here: it's true that a level that doesn't lose its calibration is wonderful. But I do object to the removable end caps (shock absorbers?) -- they come off in case you want a square corner at the end of the level, but they also come off by themselves, when I find my missing one I'll cement it on. Also, I find the slick handhold-free metal body difficult to grip in certain positions, and the vial you need to see never seems close at hand.

These are the trade-offs for the sturdiness and accuracy (which may be in part due to the gentler handling a level that costs this much will usually get ... no more using my level as a hammer in a pinch ... just kidding!).

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best levels Plus a freebee
Fantastic Deal! I own a lot of Stabila Levels and they really are the world's best. These two new levels are just what we needed. Homeowners may not notice a wall that is not plumb, but they sure notice a door that swings open because the door frame is not plumb. This Jamber set is the best! You pay for the 78" and get the 32" free. Such a deal. Thanks Amazon.com for carrying the full line of Stabila, especially this new Jamber Set. Oh, did I mention the lifetime accuracy guarantee? These guys really stand behind their levels. As long as you don't bend it, it is covered for life, really, I've done it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stabila Jamber Set
I have always been one to believe that the best way to set door jambs is the oldest way, a plumb bob, a strait edge, and a two foot level. With the accuracy of Stabila's Jamber Set, I now believe that using these levels can be just as as accurate, faster and easier. The 32 inch level is a big improvement over using a two footer when leveling the head. The 78 inch level fills the leg of the jamb so it is easy to see exactly how straight the leg is while checking for plumb. The two sizes are also very useful for other applications such as cabinetry installations. I have owned other Stabila levels for years and know that they are extremely durable and retain their accuracy. I would highly recomend this set to anyone in the trade. This is a great value and an exellent investment in your professional perfomance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best pocket knife money can buy.
I have owned my Swiss Champ for more than two years. I wanted a POCKET knife that had many tools without having to go to a multi-tool that you had to put in a case and hook to your belt.
The Swiss Champ fit the bill perfectly. I carry it in my pocket everywhere I go.
The knife is built much stronger than I ever imagined. I have used the screwdrivers with screws that I felt would break the knife without even chipping a blade. I have put a tremendous amount of torque on the blades without a hitch. I love the tuck away tweesers. They have pulled many splinters from hands and fingers.
The scissors are very sharp,....though small. (I have used for personal grooming.) The pliers are strong,....but rather small. The file works well for small items. The saw blade is very, very sharp and I have actually used it in a jam to cut through a 1" X 2" board.
This is the best POCKET knife I have ever bought. I like it so much that I recently bought another and put it in my closet. (Just to have it on hand if I should ever lose this one.)
The original still looks and works like new. All the blades are still very sharp.
If you are looking for something that will actually fit in your pocket,.....this is the knife to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Swiss Army quality
This tool has it all; a ball point pen, a sharp saw, magnifying glass, scissors, pliers, and even a knife! Classic Swiss Army quality and excellent fit and finish. It's a little heavy in my pocket, but no more than other similar tools. So far I've put mine in my pocket every day, and it's not too bad, although that and a big key ring would be too much.

The pliers are precise enough to pull out splinters, which is a good thing since the tweezers are useless. The magnifying lense appears to be glass, and the metal used is first rate. There aren't any parts of this thing that will corrode, and durability is excellent.

If I had to choose between this tool and something like a Leatherman tool, it might be pretty close, depending on whether you needed the long nose pliers of the leatherman more often, or a good knife. I haven't owned the Leatherman, so I can't vouch of the quality of that tool, but this one is very nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars adaptable Belt pocket?
I want to know if there is any poket that I can put on my belt for this knife??

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply, the best there is
You can't go wrong with the Champ in your pocket. Owned mine for a good 9 years and is still serves me well since the day I bought it. I even brought it with me when I did volunteer work and never failed me, not even when I used it to hammer some nails onto plywood. Now for the "other" camp, the LEATHERMEN's camp, sure, the Champ's pliers aren't beefy enough for some jobs but along with a good pair of Craftsman or Snap-on pliers and my trusty knife, I'm pretty sure things will be fine.

Besides, how many stories have you heard of a guy using a Leatherman to perform a tracheotomy on a choking child on a plane? I'm sure you haven't. But a Swiss Army knife did, right?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good but big.
As you can see, this knife has many many tools. However, calling it a pocket-knife is a little misleading. It is a bit big to fit comfortably in a jeans pocket. Buy the sheath that is made for it and wear it on your belt. The sheath also has a pencil, sharpener, compas/ruler, matches, signal mirror, string, safety pin and more. When I've worn mine, the sheath has come in almost as handy as the knife. If you want one that fits in a pocket a little better, try the Delux Tinkerer, has a lot of the tools that I found useful. The victorinox knives are all great quality, withstand abuse, and the tools open and close very smoothly. For heavy-duty cutting, though, I'd look for one with a locking blade, such Victorinox's version of the leatherman.

This knife also comes or at least used to come in black. That's a really nice look and not as common as the red. ... Read more

It doesn't look like much, but take this little saw in hand and get to work, and you'll be as impressed as we are. First off, it's quality construction, everything from the comfortable, soft-grip handle to the same rugged, heavy-duty steel Quik-Lok clamp you'll find on Milwaukee's famous Sawzall recip saws. Blade change is as quick and easy as a twist of the thumb and index finger. The beauty of this little saw is that it will go anywhere and get into places a big, hungry recip saw can't. Just stock up on 1/2-inch tang recip saw blades and you'll be set. It's perfect for small cuts, delicate jobs and for the little tasks you don't want to haul your recip saw out for. Every homeowner and contractor ought to have one of these. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Thought it was just a gimmick; I was wrong!!
Since they were offering this little hand tool free with their Orbital Sawzall I figured it was probably junk. The quik-lok job saw is by no means junk. It is as well made as Milwaukee's Sawzalls and provides as much utility. The hand saw uses standard reciprocating saw blades and boasts the same tooless blade release mechanism (Quik-Lok) found on the Sawzalls. I have found the soft grip handle also very comfortable. I have used this little saw more often than I ever would have thought. Sometimes a reciprocating saw is overkill and you just want to make a small neat cut in a fragile area. This tool is often the best choice. For $20.00 you can't go wrong; obviously it won't replace your reciprocating saw but it certainly will facilitate its use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great quality - good feel
Great quality and feel to this item - holds the blade like a vise and at a slight angle to relieve stress on the wrist. The spring-loaded locking collar is industrial design at it's best. Buy the variety pack of blades and you're all set to go. You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great keyhole/work saw
This has a much more sturdy handle then I expected. Not like other brands I've looked at. It holds the blades in place very well and it's design is comfortable to hold & use. The threaded end for attaching an extension pole looks like it may be a weak point. The plastic is a little thin and looks as if it may not take the kind of force you would apply on an extension pole, but in their defense I haven't tried to use it that way. I feel Milwaukee once again has earned their reputation for building quality hand tools. I would highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Tool
I used the SwissTool Plus almost every day for three years until I lost it, and I bought the SwissTool Spirit Plus to replace it.

The first impression is that it fits better in the hand, but it feels less solid. I mean, the other tool produced a strong sound while closing and required force to open. It still felt new after three years of heavy use.

However, with the SwissTool one could break his nails trying to open the sheets appling force with a wrong angle. The new tool is much more confortable in that respect.

Also a big improvement are the scissors instead the plain knife. The more useful serrated knife is still there. There are 3-4 new functions and the bit case holds the bits much tighter. The leather pouch has a better construction, but I prefered the black color.

Another benefit is that the new tool is much lighter. To bad there is no ruler on the Spirit, since after some time with the other tool I used to measure small objects or distances on a map quite frequently.

In short, the Spirit is an improvement over the outstanding original tool. I only wonder if the new model will be as solid as the old one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Slimmer, Trimmer,Sexy,SwissTool
I have had the original SwissTool for a few years it is practaly industructable. I wanted somthing smaller and lighter, so when Victorinox came out with Spirit I got one. It is a nice tool It has most of what it's big brother has with less mass. I also would like a straight blade. I like the bend in the handle, it feels right. The Spirit is well desined with all the tools on the outside. The locking mechinisum works great, very safe. I hope that the Spirit will be as durable as the original SwissTool. Victorinox & Swiss Army Brand have a great warrenty Program so no problems.

4-0 out of 5 stars A cool addition to the swisstool family.
follow the excellence build and finish of the swisstool, swiss tool spirit is another cool addition to the swisstool family.unlike the former swisstools, the spirit is smaller and lighter.if size is your decide factor then go with the spirit instead!oh yeah, here is a main sum up:

what's good:
1)the needlenose pliers in spirit is more useful if u need need to grip smaller items.
2)if u look at it's scissor,it use the new spring design which is better than the old Vic's weak and cheap spring.

what's bad:
1)unlike some people,i dun like the curved handle of the spirit, sure it make the plier action perform better, but if u want to use the outside tools,it perform poorer...
2)where is the straight blade?it doesn't make sense to me.
3)again,the strange handle lead to the absense of ruler....

all in all, getting the spirit is an excellence choice for you multi-tool users.hope this help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow -- it really works!
I recently tried this product a bit skeptically, but was impressed to find that it really worked (and quite well actually)!

We just painted our bedroom (no more white wall!) and this tool made the work around the window and door frames soooooooo much easier than other "conventional" methods that I've used in the past.No taping was needed!

Highly recommended! ... Read more
