Great Product
This heater is excellent and the perfect fit, for a certain set of requirements.

If you have electricity, use an electric heater. Don't bother with the hassel of propane. The cost isn't too different and the hassel factor is much higher than electricity.

I also don't recommend using the small canisters. That's an inconvinient way to go as well.

BUT. If you don't have power and need a cheap, safe heat source that you can run while you sleep, this is the best one made. Buy the 12' hose, place a 20lb propane tank outside, and run this heater all night with just a small crack in a window or door (just in case!). You will get > 100 hours of heat out of a tank of propane! Less than a buck to run it all night.

Highly recommended under the right circumstances.

Carbon monoxide and propane
I don't (yet) have this heater but it is on my wish list.

I'm posting this merely to point out the inaccuracies and potentially DANGEROUS information in the poster who states that propane does not produce CO (Carbon Monoxide). Visit this site and you'll get plenty of information about this: http://www.carbonmonoxidedeaths.com .

Like all fuels, propane gas requires oxygen to burn completely. Appliance malfunctions, vent system blockage and improper installation will reduce the oxygen supply. When this happens, the fuel will not burn properly, releasing CO into the room, and long term exposure can lead to CO poisoning.

A bigger problem here is that in an enclosed area, the propane heater can consume oxygen. In an oxygen-starved room, the propane will continue to burn, and WILL produce carbon monoxide. This manufacturer was smart enough to include an oxygen sensor to avoid this dangerous situation. In fact, this manufacturer is a FOUNDING MEMBER of a Coalition for Portable Radiant Heater Safety. You will find very few portable heaters that are rated for indoor use today. This is one of them and you should be able to use this safely.

you people are missing the boat on safety!
the main byproducts of propane combustion are carbon DIoxide and water...not carbon MONoxide. You will expire long before your carbon monoxide detector sounds. It's not what this unit produces, it's what it consumes...oxygen. a little ventilation is all that's required to safely operate this unit, and reduce condensation.
Personally I would never use a radiant heater while sleeping, especially in a tent! Radiant heaters heat THINGS, not AIR,if one of those things being exposed to this radiant energy is highly flammable you'll have a serious problem. I have personal knowledge of a radiant heater (albeit a larger AC model) igniting a stack of paper over 3ft away!
a safer, lower cost alternative might be a catalytic heater like the coleman procat... though it has a much lower btu output, it's heating air...not emitting radiant energy. In a large workshop...radiant...in a tent or the like...catalytic.

Save Your Money
I purchased this heater and it was a problem from day one. Out of about one hundred attempts to light, it has only worked three times! The pilot light ignites without problem, but it refuses to work beyond this point. Two out of the three times it worked, it went out when I tried to turn the control from high to low. I have since purchased three butane heaters that work flawlessly. I would not recommend this unit.

Can not handle wind or breeze
I bought this with the hope of using it at our kids outdoor sporting events, but, when ever there was a breeze, the heater would shut off. This heater is a perfect size instead of carrying a large propane tank heater, but could not stand up to the elements. Works great with no wind. Definately a needed add on..
If you are buying the Mr. Buddy Heater, this hose (or the 5' model) are definately needed. By using the larger (20lb or bigger) tanks you have many more hours of operation without having to change the disposable tanks. This hose will also allow you to use bulk tanks with any propane appliance that accepts the disposable tanks (stoves, lantern, etc.).

Almost a required upgrade
I bought this hose because I wanted to maximize the safety, usefulness and economy of the Propane Buddy heater by Mr Heater. You can't go wrong buying this hose!

1. It allows the use of a larger LP tank (I have a 20 lb cylinder). I am certain the savings from buying LP fuel in bulk will pay for the hose.
2. You can locate the bulk tank a good distance away from the lit heater. I use the heater primarily in my garage, and with the hose I can put the heater up on a shelf or on the workbench, off the floor, and still have the bulk tank in a convenient and safe spot.

Quick Warm Heat cuts morning chill
I have the older version that is functionally identical to the current version (they replaced the L-bolt that holds the heater on the tank with a ribbed knob on the new version). I love it for taking the morning chill off the house in the morning. I keep it in the kitchen and fire it up first thing on a cold morning. After about 30 minutes the chill is off not only the kitchen but the adjacent master bedroom and living rooms.

Be cautious - like any unvented heater it can be dangerous if you try to heat an unvented space for any length of time.

It is economical to use and even more so if you are able to find a local propane tank refiller. If you are forced to exchange the tank, it can cost [$$$]. If you have the tank refilled it will only cost [$$$].

My heater was given to me, used, and I liked it so much I gave one to my sister to use when she didn't want to burn the fireplace. I am now going to buy a newer one for the house, and relegate the older on out to my workshop.

Smells like burning tires
I got this for my wife, and was really looking forward to it. We have different "temperature preferences", and she spends much of her time at home complaining about being too cold. That, or I complain about being too hot.

Anyhow, the Indus does warm up. In fact, it gets downright hot -- you need socks or something else between you and it once it's going at full tilt. It's a very effective foot warmer.

But then there's the smell. Once it gets warmed up, it gives off a powerful smell of hot rubber. The smell doesn't go away very fast once it's turned off, either. In fact, I had to wash the comforter that we'd had over the Indus repeatedly to get rid of the burning rubber smell. The house still smells faintly of hot rubber, and it's been days since we used it.

If I had no sense of smell, I'd love the Indus. Unfortunately, as it is, we can't use it. With luck, perhaps Indus can find a material to use that won't react this way upon heating.

I like this foot heater
My feet were always cold when working at my computer, but this is no longer a problem since I bought this foot warmer. This warmer keeps my feet warm, and my whole body feels warmer as a result. The warmer has a built in thermostat, but it gets a little too hot for me, and it cannot be adjusted, so I bought a 300 watt lamp dimmer for $10, and this works great. It allows me to control the temperature and turn the unit on and off without unplugging it. Before I bought the foot warmer, I was concerned about the smell after reading a previous review, but after getting the product, the smell has not bothered me at all, and I believe it would not be an issue for most people since I cannot smell it, and I have a sensitive nose.

No Odor - No Problems
I bought and used mine all last winter, under my computer desk. No smell - happy with the product. But they have recalled an optional Hi-Lo-Off switch for it. Several months ago, long after I received the warmer, they sent me this switch, which I did not order or pay for (to my knowlege) -- puzzling. Now they've sent me an envelope for mailing back the switch for a replacement, at no charge, postage paid.

warm shoes in winter
Not only can this mat be used under your desk or in the workshop, you can also use it in an unheated/ underheated mud room to get the heat where you need it...your shoes. It encourages you to leave your shoes outside if you know they'll be nice and warm when you go to get them. Downside: it does smell like rubber for a long time before it fades.

Great Heater!
I ordered this foot warmer because my office is usally about 68 degrees or so. Everyone else seems to be comfortable at that temperature but I'm freezing. I had a space heater but that was taken away because I was told it is against policy to have one. So in an effort to keep from getting frost bite at work, I ordered this foot warmer. There is a slight rubber smell when it is on, but it's nothing like some of the reviews I have read. It doesn't smell like a skunk or burn my nose or eyes. The odor is very slight and since it's under my desk, it doesn't seem to bother anyone else around me. I love this heater!! Well made, durable, reliable. Like a Zippo!
I got a Mr. Heater Single unit about 8 years ago as a backup source of heat after hurricane Hugo knocked out our power for three weeks. It is still working fine and has come in real handy during infrequent ice storms and winter power failures.

My dad liked my single a lot so he bought a Mr. Heater Double to heat a big 3 car garage sized shop. He liked it but now thinks that a single would have worked fine as the double gets that big area heated in no time and keeps it really toasty.

My single unit works far better than gas logs to heat up a room. It does make a hissing sound that is not too loud but barely audible. A single will knock the chill off a large room in no time. A tank of propane will last about 30 to 36 continuous hours if you keep it set on low. I think this is a great alternative to other auxilary heat sources like Kerosuns or a fireplace. With an asthmatic child in our family, a kerosene heater is out of the question for us. This burns clean, creates no odor, smoke or soot. There's no maintenance, no wicks or anything like that. You can store it indefinitely untouched and then pull it out and fire it up with no preparation. I will buy another one if mine ever wears out.

I have recommended Mr. Heater to lots of my friends and family and have no reservation about recommending one to you. If you can't decide whether you need a single, double or triple I suggest trying the single first. Then if you aren't happy step up to the double or triple. It is really amazing how much heat a Mr. Heater Single generates!

It is rare to find a really good product that is durable and an excellent value. Mr. Heater is one of those rare finds. They are the Zippo lighter of auxillary space heaters in my opinion.

This a very good heater for the shop! It runs for a long time on one tank of propane. It is a nice heater to at least break the chill in very cold weather or a large shop or area. It can be a valuable back up in case of any problems with your primary source of heat too. Highly recommended and a great price here!

Great / Long Burning Furnace
I use one in my wood shop and it really works well. In fact I am here to get another. Heats a mostly uninsulated standard two car garage from 30 to 65 degrees in about 30 minutes. A standard 20lb propane cylinder will keep this guy going for about 30 hours. In summary, I would recommened this product.

I also have a small Patton fan that I cautiously use to blow air across the back of this unit. The fan circulates and distributes the heat. If you live in the north, you might want to get the double or triple unit. ... Read more
